    An incredible and technically perfect game. The story compared to the previous one moves in another direction that may or may not like it. The power of the title lies in the difficult choices that have been addressed by bringing back some current themes within the video game. Before giving a judgment try to live the title. An almost masterpiece.

When I first played The Last Of Us in 2013 for the Playstaion 3, I was like 19 and thought it was the best game on the planet. Now, I've played it 2 in the last two weeks; once for the store, and once for the Grounded Mode gameplay. There were things that I still LOVED    This is a spoiler-free review.

    When I first played The Last Of Us in 2013 for the Playstaion 3, I was like 19 and thought it was the best game on the planet. Now, I've played it 2 in the last two weeks; once for the store, and once for the Grounded Mode gameplay. There were things that I still LOVED about the game, like how fluid it was and how well written/spoken the characters were. While Uncharted's Nathan Drake was a treasure hunting serial murderer with no regard for human life, Joel was a tired, grieving man who felt as though everything is did was to protect and survive. But while Uncharted has a ton of monotonous climbing (albeit with a few scripted moments to keep things fresh), The Last of Us had annoying Ladders and "drag this over here" moments to pad gameplay. It's kind of ridiculous how often you had to pick up a ladder just to literally walk it two **** inches from its destination. AND THE PALLETS, OH GOD THE PALLETS... But the combat and story is where the game shined. The shooting and aim was pretty rough, but the combat was still one of the best experiences I've had in gaming even after 7 years of playing better games. While it couldn't hold a candle to the recent God Of War, it was so crisp when youd throw a molotov at a small group, dip behind cover and choke a guy out, take out a guy from across the room with a boy and then finish of the last guy with good old-fashioned fists. It was nice how every fight felt a little different. Sometimes youd push a guy off some stairs for a kill, or smash their head in if there were against a wall. It was brutal, intense, and impressive when you think about how far this game pushed the limits of the PS3. And the story was so incredible, it really didn't need a sequel, even though fans of the game, including my 19 year old self, really wanted one. Watching Joel go from brooding and dark to tragically optimistic after a year with Ellie was tear-jerking, while watching a Ellie go from snarky and quick-witted to tragically hopeless because of Joel was gloomy and perfect.

    The Last of Us 2 is amazing.

    While the story isn't amazing, I think it needed to happen. The was playing the first game with my roomate in the area, and she constantly was like, "So do these characters just get to walk away from all this with no consquences whatsoever?" And it raised a great point. After beating the original Last of Us, questions I hadn't considered as a teen were raised now. Could Joel just walk into a hospital, kill a ton of innocent people, and walk out of it to start a happy life with Ellie and not be held accountable in any way shape or form? And if he could, is that really how life works? Would Ellie forgive him for robbing her of being a sacrifice for a cure to an apocalypse? What would the dynamic be after that?

    The Last of Us: Part II answers a lot of questions and raises a few more, and while the story takes a bit longer to wrap up than needed to, the overall message is clear.

    I've heard a lot of review talk about how they became unphased and deafed by the gore and blood this game offers. And honestly, get the **** over it. If you could watch scenes from The Walking Dead, or play Mortal Kombat and go "awh man, I gotta see what happens next," then dont tell me about how the gore was too much for you. It wasn't that bad, I've seen much worse, and if games are designed with the idea that they will become increasingly cinematic and realistic then all this game does in the realism department is take a big step forward. If bloody games bother you, maybe play Pokemon. They have new DLC.

    To people saying the characters don't make good choices, and that Ellie isn't the same. No, of course Ellie isn't the **** same. And if you take time to consider the fact that she was dragged across the country at the age of 14 by a guy in this 50's who's capable of murdering hundred of zombies and people with only his fists and a few handcrafted shivs ALL so that she could find out she's actually NOT able to save the planet from a disease shes immune to, you might be able to understand why. I haven't come across anything that made me go "now why would they do that."

    Also, if you watched the trailer of Ellie kissing a girl and went "why is Naughty Dog pushing a gay agenda on me?" then just don't play this game. Its cast is a lot more colorful and progressive than any game thats ever been out, and if youre upset by that idea then save your money. But in my opinion, it was going to happen eventually and I'm glad Naughty Dog got to steer it in a nice "not in your face but this is happening so get over it" direction.

    I wasn't HAPPY about some of the things that happened in this game, but I understood why they did. I think its time to open your eyes and stop thinking about what you would have WANTED to happen, and what actually makes sense.    … Expand

    To me was a growning experience of how can I live with a feeling of lost insted of understand other's feelings, some people are saying at this gane is the worst in story, but for me I love gow is that story works, and the new characters are amazing, and I think the message of the game ismake you feeling angry, happy,the worst and all mixed

Как они слили просто Джоела, который никогда не верил незнакомцам, а тут поверил. Нелогичные поступки Элли, всех убивает, чтобы добраться до Эбби, но когда встречается с ней, щадит.... просто нет слов, только негодование, уже успокоилась, живет мирно с семьей, но решила отомстить, бросила Дину и ребёнка, чтобы отомстить, но пощадила.... логика есть?
    И почему я должен играть за убийцу любимого персонажа? Я после убийства терпеть её не могу, видеть не хочу, хочу чтобы ее убили также, как она Джоела, но при этом я играю за неё, из-за этого чуть-чуть пропало настроение играть, я бы лучше сыграл за Томми или Дину, персонажи интересные, особенно Томми, хотелось бы посмотреть его прошлую жизнь, а не Эбби.
    Нил в погоне за тем, чтобы всем угодить, забыл, что нужно угодить своим фанатам концовкой, в итоге угодил всем, ЛГБТ сообществу, Саркисян, но не фанатам.... печально    … Expand

    Beautiful and emltional. The gameplay has been updated but feels familiar. Love the story, the game look amazing, especialy the facial animations are stunning. Best game I played on PS4.

    Best game of the year until now, but nothing new about gameplay. Naughty dogs repeated the same formula from others games like uncharted. The game is better like a movie than a game. The direction could win some oscars instead best gameplay of the year. Sadly we have to see a lot of haters giving bad reviews for nothing.

    Impresionante!!! Tecnicamente el juego es muy bueno!!! No se puede hablar y evaluar la historia con pocas horas de juego, dudo mucho de las criticas con respecto a la narrativa con tal solo 1 día de lanzamiento. Es polémico si y deduzco que lo sucedido con Joel no gusto mucho.

    Awesome graphics and story! The gameplay is so brutal, you've never seen Ellie hits the enemies this heavy! Except the gameplay the story is completely mind blowing and so deep that teach you a lot of things. Incredible dualism that will effect the narrative impact in many and incredible ways, thank you naugthy dog.

    El punto negativo que comparto con todos es la muerte de Joel (en el sentido que carece de lógica, fue muy rápida y simple). Creo que ND se hubiera esforzado al máximo para vendernos una muerte más creíble( y épica de preferencia).
    ND tiene dos caminos para "arreglar" este enojo de usuarios, o puede arriesgarse en sacar un 3er juego basándose en la vida de Joel desde la muerte de Sarah hasta que conoce a Tess ya que aquí puede haber potencial de una historia u olvidarse y crear una nueva franquicia a la altura de Uncharted y Crash Bondicoot. La primera es muy arriesgada pero puede "mejorar" ese error, la segunda muy fácil pero dejará esa marca en TLOU2, la decepeción de varios.    … Expand

The brutality of humankind is never ending, always reaching. Honestly one of my favorite parts of the game was Ellie's Journal. Fantastic writing that gave great depth into her character. Now with Abby's purpose to show the viewer/player that Ellie and Abby are not good nor bad. We are all **** killing other ****. I will be playing this again and again because the characters and story are addicting and I just love the tone. Endure and survive are out the window… Expand

    Es un juego que a nivel gráfico y en Gameplay sobresale sobre cualquier juego de los últimos años, mantiene mucho de la primer entrega pero puliendo y mejorando lo ya antes visto, a nivel de historia es diferente al primer juego entrega un sentimiento nuevo, donde ya el mundo está acostumbrado a los infectados y ya no buscan una cura, sino sobrevivir y adaptarse a como ahora es el mundo.

    Great game. Everyone’s being over dramatic, for what it is it’s a good game and I enjoyed it. I went into it knowing the spoilers and what not but wanted to test the game out for myself to form my own opinion. This game is all about perspective, if you find it hard to see life from another lens or walk a mile in someone else’s shoes and empathise with the “other side” then you won’t likeGreat game. If you’re open to letting a game take you on an emotional roller coaster with great sound, beautiful music, breathtaking graphics and an interesting story, then I recommend you try “the last of us part II” it’s worth the experience alone.… Expand

    But the story.....if feels undeveloped. the characters deserve better than this, more personal growth, depth and development.
    More like the first game. This game really had me in tears but for the wrong reasons.

    *Minor spoilers* I adored tlou 1 and i loved both joel and ellie. I might have played the game over 7 times. When i started off with tlou 2 after the scene in the lodge i was quite enraged. When i first played as abby after that scene i was wondering why ND would let us play as her Knowing that we all hated her. But that hate started to fade scene by scene. I couldn’t help but to feel*Minor spoilers* I adored tlou 1 and i loved both joel and ellie. I might have played the game over 7 times. When i started off with tlou 2 after the scene in the lodge i was quite enraged. When i first played as abby after that scene i was wondering why ND would let us play as her Knowing that we all hated her. But that hate started to fade scene by scene. I couldn’t help but to feel sympathetic. When something good happened to her at first i got happy too but after a moment i was like oh yeah she did that she should go to hell. And this feeling accompanied me for the rest of the game. It wasn’t a bad feeling but it was something different. The gameplay was spot on if you liked the mechanics of the first one you will love this game too. There were exactly 2 scenes/events that happened that i didn’t quite understand why they had put in. Nevertheless i enjoyed the game and i plan on playing it again soon. If you are a fan of the first one you should give it a shot and if you are scared about the abby parts don’t be she is a well developed character and i doubt you getting bored. (P.S they could have added more guns...)… Expand

Yes the game has some mistakes such as playing as Abby, to me playing as Abby is actually the only mistake that I think they did but i know that most people are angry at Joel’s death and they wanted Naughty Dog to do right by him, but his death makes total sense and here’s why: Joel killed so many people in his life including people that he knew and yet after all the bad things that he did there has to be some consequences and even if he died peacefully just like how Lee from the walking dead it would still make Ellie mad but she won’t be as mad as if they brutally killed him and by that she would seek revenge whatsoever, as for the ending people are mad because Ellie didn’t kill Abby first of all how would do that do any good to Ellie? She has to break the cycle! if she just killed Abby then eventually few years later Lev would revenge Abby’s death and would kill Ellie all that is gonna keep going over and over with no point it’s literally an endless cycle so Ellie had to break it. But I just want to clear out something and that is that they could have given us a better story and i agree with that but we gotta work with what we’ve got and what we’ve got is good and makes total Sense but people are too afraid to admit it.… Expand

    After finishing the game, i am honestly out of words. Some parts of the game did really make me question myself but man at the end, everything made perfect sense. It was something bold from naughty dog and my dear god, they have done it again - another masterpiece etched onto our hearts.

I got it, people hate the fact that the characters have changed in how many game years. If your answer is four your wrong. Life seemed more comfortable and not the same as TLOU 1. Joels not alone anymore he has settled into a new life. Your fav meets his demise and you can not takeNot going to lie, I normally feel the same as the user reviews on here. This to me felt like a good story... I got it, people hate the fact that the characters have changed in how many game years. If your answer is four your wrong. Life seemed more comfortable and not the same as TLOU 1. Joels not alone anymore he has settled into a new life. Your fav meets his demise and you can not take it. Sounds like good drama to me. Многим он не нравится из-за джоэла и "повестки", но если смотреть на игру не как на сиквел первой части, то действительно все грамотно рассказано и показано к чему приводит месть. This is a masterpiece that’s *deeply* invested in the first game’s world, it’s story    For context, I’m on my ninth play through of The Last of Us, and I’ve put thousands of hours into the multiplayer, Factions.

    To play The Last of Us Part 2. you probably want to make sure you finished the first game because every element of it (minus the multiplayer) is developed and expanded upon here. This is a masterpiece that’s *deeply* invested in the first game’s world, it’s story and gameplay and character development.

    Naughty Dog brought a lot of the mechanics of Uncharted 4 into this title and uses them to stunning effect. If I had to guess, these mechanics are part of why they’re not releasing a multiplayer with the game, as they significantly change the combat mechanics of the first title in an utterly thrilling and gripping way.

    While it’s no open world, it really feels like there’s a lot to explore all the time and I can’t wait to replay this one and see if there actually were multiple paths, because I’d certainly feels like I could have made different choices at various points along the way.

    This is fantastic work at every level, an utterly worthy sequel to one of the most transformative games I’ve ever played. Death which is sacrificial, in the arms of a loved one, uttering poignant and emotional final words. The death of Joel strips away the ideals, and presents death in its most horrific form - brutal, sudden and helpless. The desire for a romanticised portrayal of death is such that the response of many to the death of Joel has been one of anger. This of course is justified in the context of the game, Naughty Dog wants you to share the burning desire for vengeance felt by Ellie. Many are instead aiming this anger at the game. Joel's death appears to be the foremost criticism of many user reviews. However, The Last of Us Part 2 is not a fan pandering safe sequel where Joel and Ellie go on another road trip, with Joel dying a Hollywood style death at the stories climax, saving Ellie's life in the process. If that is what you expected or wanted, then you clearly weren't paying attention during the first game. The Last of Us contained the deaths of several children, attempted rape, cannibalism and torture. It concluded with a man murdering a hospital full of people who are trying to save man-kind, in order to save a girl who he knew if given the choice would sacrifice herself willingly, causing him to consistently lie to her about events. The death of Joel is merely a continuation of the trend of post-apocalyptic brutality displayed in the first game and if that is something you find hard to stomach then this game is probably not one you will enjoy. It is certainly not a valid reason for labelling the game as bad, as many have done. I also find the abundance of people criticising the game for having a political agenda because it contains homosexual and trans characters to be a sad reflection on many. Their sexuality has little to no bearing on the story and serves to make the game a more accurate representation of our diverse society. It is entirely positive that we see more characters that display the diversity of human beings and the reaction to it simply reveals people's prejudices.

    The story's genius is in taking you willingly on a path of vengeance with Ellie before turning the tables and showing you the perspective of Abby who has just as much justification for her revenge on Joel as Ellie does on her. It creates a villain only to show how they are no different to our protagonist by shifting the perspective about halfway through the game. The narrative is not without flaws. The progression of the story at times slows too much to the point of feeling like a drag. In these areas the same plot points could have been reached and explored in a more concise manner. The ending is thought provoking and will spark much debate, and I am still toiling with why exactly Ellie chose to spare Abby. The fact that the ending left me in such an emotional void is a testament to just how bleak of a tale Naughty Dog created. The game left me bereft of emotional satisfaction, which is exactly how I believe the developers wanted to make the audience feel. The voice acting is top notch as usual in Naughty Dog games. Overall I thought the story was gritty, dark, sad and utterly brilliant.
    The gameplay is instantly familiar to anyone who played the first game. It feels frantic, intense and real. Human enemy AI is frustratingly intelligent, communicating, coordinating and flanking. Infected sections feel more like other zombie games, I would liken them to a fast paced Resident Evil game. There is not a lot which is new here, the gameplay is more of a refinement of the first games offering. This is not a necessarily a negative as I very much enjoyed the gameplay in both titles but it is not without flaws. On several occasions I found myself remaining undetected through large environments filled with enemies only to be unable to find the exit in order to progress and thus was discovered. This made much of my successful sneaking feel wasted, which ultimately felt unsatisfying. Some clearer indication of where to go in some larger areas would have been a welcome feature. I sometimes also found shooting some larger human enemies in the head would not kill them in one shot which I found to be a bizarre design choice. Another issue that occurred with infected enemies was that they would trigger a bomb I had laid in another location, causing all other infected to run to me, despite me being wholly in cover and away from the location of the explosion. I also actually preferred the feeling of melee combat in the first game, it felt more satisfying and incorporated the environment into the kill more often.
    Overall the game is excellent- neither the story or gameplay are perfect but their positives dwarf the flaws. The Last of Us 2 presents some of the most realistic combat, stunning visuals and accomplished story telling ever in a video game.    … Expand

I'm disappointed that so many people weren't ready to make that same sacrifice. If they were, they would have been greeted something truly phenomenal

    The game is fantastic at least for the first 3/4 of the game. The game had everything graphics, combat and a great story however the ending to the story was not as satisfying as I hoped it to be. However, I would still recommend purchasing the game as it is still a very good game and is still my favorite game of the year even though I didn't like the end of the story.

    I have not completed the game yet. I started playing it yesterday and played from about 5PM till about 3AM I had planned on stopping at midnight but I lost track of time. I then played again today for another 5 hours so far. I stopped to write this review and then I'm going back to the game.
    I don't understand the hate for this game from the review bombers. Especially since most of them seem to have posted it without really even playing the game.
    So far I think the story is amazing. I love the game play and I love the way the game flows. It is like a good book that is hard to put down.
    I was put off by the aiming mechanics at first but I think it was done intentionally. You aren't supposed to be a 1 man killing machine that can auto lock onto everything you see and you do unlock skills later on that improve your aiming speed so that you get a feeling of improvement while also actually improving just because you start to become more accustomed to the controls.
    I haven't completed the game yet so I can't say how I feel about the ending but I can say that I am having a lot of fun playing this game right now and really enjoying the story and the visuals and to me that is what makes a game good.
    I don't really care about whether or not this game is a political statement or some LGBTQ propaganda that some people are claiming it to be. (I don't believe that it is either)
    I think the characters are well written and it does a great job of continuing from where the DLC of TLOU part 1 ended.
    Do yourself a favor and ignore all of the zero reviews and try the game for yourself.    … Expand

Okay SO verdict on the last of us part II, firstly I'm gonna give it a 8.5/10,,,originally it was even going to be a 10/10 because loved the first part of it so much but the whole gameplay with Abby I just felt went on too long, I found myself getting through it not out of genuine interest but more because I just wanted to get back to playing Ellie. In my personal view, the writing isn't as bad as people say, I just felt like the timing was off with Joel’s death, it wasn't the fact that it was done but more when they chose to do it, it felt too soon and I wish we were given more time, if I had it my way we would have a bigger gameplay at the start with Joel and Ellie, then the main storyline with Ellie and have Abby's part be a smaller one because...that part just didn't work for me. I found myself not enjoying it as much or getting excited, all I wanted to do was get back to Ellie, which might be me being biased because ellie is one of my all time favourite characters.

    I do think people are being way too harsh on this game just because it wasn't what everyone expected, in my opinion too much was put on the shoulders of this sequel and everyone expected it to be incredibly perfect but the way I see it, in the world you're playing in all bets are off.

    The ending,,,I understand why people were pissed, for me it felt too backwards. Ellie gets into a brutal fight with Abby; Abby leaves then over a year has past and Ellie leaves Dina and JJ behind to find her again only to then let her go? I understand the sentiment of Ellie learning that everything she had done in Joel’s “honour” didn’t help her and killing Abby wouldn’t bring him back like,,,I understand that but shouldn’t that have happened in the first big fight and then just end it with her getting closure on the farm with Dina?

    The ending has been left kind of opened yet again, which I do appreciate because then it can be left to interruption as to what happens, personally I think Ellie goes back to Jackson to find Dina (let’s face it is where she’s gonna go she wants safety for JJ) and gets forgiveness and her family back,,,I don’t know if I want a full part 3 bc it scares me what they could do lmao BUT a DLC (or a graphic novel) of Ellie and Dina making up??? Yes please I would love that.

    Anyways I really did love this game 90% of the time with Ellie and Dina, who was a brilliant character that brought a lot of light to the plot and Ellie herself...of course there are elements I wish would have done differently but overall I found it a great follow up, it’s just a shame of some of the choices made in the rounding up part. I hope that something is made in the future to maybe level it out, still I’ll say all the Ellie parts were a 10/10 for me.

    Me gustó el juego, porque realmente es muy profundo, la muerte de joel realmente da pena y todo está muy bien llevado, la relación de ellie y fina es muy importante, el gameplay es muy bueno y los gráficos hermosos

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is not a perfect game in terms of what you wanted to happen. I think the problem with the bad reviews from people who wanted happy endings, wanted to play as Joel and Ellie and live in nostalgia of the first game. You need to have an open mind. A second playthrough if you really want but closing your mind off to the experience because of the first act is the reason this game has poor user ratings. This game has an exceptional narrative, like, a mildly weird one considering what I would consider the posture of a story being.. a little slumped in some places. But overall, boxes to check; exceptional representation of women, diversity in orientation, gender and race, hard discussions and quite poignant representations of PTSD, a grit-teeth look at violence and the conception of a very unique way to tell a story. It makes you reconsider how you play the first game. The game is **** intense. Picture me, just chillin' at my craft station to hear the unmistakable sound of thudding footsteps towards me to be thrown out of what felt like a little pause screen. Wrong. Very wrong. Beaten almost to death wrong. The game has a way of keeping you in edge but killing you into safety. Is it crickets or a clicker? The fear in the gameplay outside of what feels like being an unreliable narrator is what adds to the charm but also kind of detracts from the linear element or want of nostalgia for a game.
    Some people are reviewing it without even playing. Thank you naughtydog for honestly making my birthday and having me stay up for like 3 days to finish it. I hate you. But I love you. And I get it. It's an adult game, made by adults. To expect sunshine, happy endings and nostalgia that isn't somewhat bittersweet is not a realistic build up of this franchise. Thank you for making me ugly sob but truly reflect on my actions. Thank you for sticking to the artistic integrity. Thank you for not giving us a "happy" ending.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The graphics and music are incredibly stunning, along with the combat and animations. I personally felt the story was weaker compared to the first game but it was still enjoyable to me. I personally extremely liked the fact that you play as both Abby and Ellie. It really put into perspective both sides of the coin for me. This game works best if you try and come at this neutral; with an open mind.

    Jogo super divertido, tenso, dramático e lindo!! Tudo que uma sequência pode ser de melhor, com uma história fantástica e muito bonita... de sua forma. Hehe.

Все, начиная от геймплея, и, заканчивая сюжетом и концовки, на вашем уровне. Пока что для меня-то игра года и одна из любимийших игр(кстати вторая часть мне зашла больше)Не знаю почему игроки хейтят игру.     o jogo, é uma versão melhor em todos os aspectos que o primeiro, e a história é mais complexa e profunda que o primeiro.

    I know my measly review is not going to be enough to save this game from the hate rhetoric it’s been receiving, but for the love of god if you enjoyed the first game and actually give this game a chance you will love it. An intense thought provoking story full of twists and turns, silky smooth engaging gameplay and gorgeous environments and cut scenes.     The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
