    Edited Rating - I shamefully admit to jumping on the band wagon to down rate this game due to some story line decisions naughtydog made in the very early part of the game. I persevered to complete the game because..... I spent £60 on it and was desperate to complete and trade in.     People are upset about certain social narratives and agendas which are portrayed through this game. If you are upset about this, you are missing the real message behind this game. That message is to truly understand how the world looks through the eyes of someone you might hate and loathe. TLOU2 does a great job in showing how groups of people from different backgrounds can be angry for completely legitimate reasons and people you end up hating, you end up loving because once you hear their story, understand their values and see life from their perspective you understand why they made the decisions they did.

The game is awesome, probably is not as perfect as the first one but the story is good, the characters got me engaged till some degree, Ellie has grown up for sure, and the gameplay and graphics are just absolute 10 on my book, they might have certain glances of SJW and politics in the game, but it doesn't make the experience less enjoyable, also in many areas of the game I found myself being very tense and that something that many games nowdays don't achieve, once again, congratulations Naughty Dog, you have done it again.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is definitely the Last Jedi of video games. It subverted almost every expectation i had for this game. We can all agree the soundtrack and graphics are AMAZING, especially considering this game is running on console, but the story is where everyone is divided. It took me roughly 17 hours to beat and when the credits started to role i felt DISGUSTED! "what game did i just play? What was the point in all of this. Nothing was achieved by anything that i had done on my journey to the end."

    But then i went to bed and thought about it. I thought about it a lot. I was so affected emotionally by how it made me feel i didn't realise how much it got to me. As Neil Druckmann stated, "the first game is about love, this game is about hate". I didn't hate it because it was poorly written, cause its not, i hated it because i wasn't thinking it from every characters perspective.

    When playing the second act of the game as Abby, all i was thinking about was "why in gods green earth am i playing as someone i absolutely loathe AND FOR SO GOD DAMN LONG! What game did i pay for?" i asked myself. But then as her arch went on I understood her head space, it got to the point i even questioned why i loved joel so much to begin with. Context also, last of us one is my favorite game ever, so much so i bought the custom PS4 pro and collectors edition. I could see where Abby is coming from, just as much as i could see where Ellie was coming from. I read a lot of people saying this game has tarnished the legacy of such a beloved character (being Joel), but the way i see it, it made you see the flaws in the people you love. Something a lot of people have a hard time doing even in their own personal lives. This game brought me to a place emotionally no other game has before, which is why i rate it so highly. If you have only seen the leaks without context, i highly recommend you play it as it really can only be defined by the overall journey and the context brought to light because of it.

    And i know most of you haven't played it cause when I beat it, i was one of 0.5% of people who owned the game who had done so. You trying to tell me 36k people make up 0.5% of the game??? im gonna hit F to doubt.

    I didn't give it a 10/10 because of how misleading the marketing was, and not for the reasons you think. I was so not onboard playing as Abby cause i did not get myself into the head space to do so. If it even slightly alluded to the fact in the games marketing that id be playing as someone else for almost a full half of the game (without any narrative context obviously) i would have enjoyed that portion of the experience a lot more.

    This game is BOLD, and begs the question of what defines right and wrong. Both characters are protagonists and Both are antagonists in their own right. I don't think I've ever seen such perfect form of story telling, as well as such well written characters. You will not like this game if you refuse to accept people who you adore have done **** things for their own self interests, and that people you hate have good reason to feel and do the things they do, and vise versa.    … Expand

    I can't help but feel like most of these reviews must have been written by sexist homophobes. This game is heartwrenching and tense, just like the first one. Maybe this game is a little slower with pacing but I kinda had to feel like there was payoff to the end of the first one. It's a John wick style plot and I absolutely love it

I really enjoyed it and was surprised by some of the things that happened, things I nor my friends expected but even though I was mad at first I remembered what type of game it was and put it in a real world situation and it all made since. Overall this was an astounding game, it’s in a tie for game of the year with Final Fantasy VII Remake for me… Expand

It makes no sense why Ellie didn’t kill Abby, she killed so many people and lost so many people on her path to revenge just to let her go in the end because a flashback of Joel playing a guitar. Makes 0 sense she’s lost everything for nothing. Couldn’t have ended any worse. There is to many holes in the story, but in the end i enjoyed it, really should’ve went a different route with the ending tho Neil.… Expand

Elly canta y s un canto es muy relajante, joel a pesar haber muerto, sigue apareciendo, su muerte sólo dramatismo a la drama. Algo innecesario. Está vez no superó al predecesor. Sigue teniendo bug y la historia no es mala pero tampoco es como la mejor. Leerás reseñas que intentan solo sacar lo malo. Las gráficas son buenas, la historia no es tanto. The story takes a drastic turn from the expected early on, I personally feels like it drags during the middle of the game, but toward the end it is once again enthralling.     Highly atmospheric and incredibly detailed. The storytelling is impeccably done through utterly outstanding voice acting and mocap. The combat is frenetic, with different strategies applicable to human vs infected enemies. This game is a masterpiece.

    The escence of the first game is completely lost, no more story regarding to Ellies inmunity and to the infected, the influence and message of the firelies is no more, etc.

    Pros.
    The graffics are perfect and the game looks just beautyful.
    The mesage that the game sends is clear and valuable.
    It is a grat example of a story and a game that sends politic ideas without being forced and unpleasing.
    The animations are next gen and the game is greatly immersive. The music and soundtrack are a masterpiece.
    The work on Elilies character is perfect and human.
    Every character has its development even if they are no good.
    The game achieves what it was meant to, even if it doesnt live to vague expectations.    … Expand

The game is incredible in several aspects such as graphics, gameplay, soundtrack, facial expressions and others, but Joel's death was very bad for a smuggler like Joel, his death was necessary, I was already resigned but the way they did it sucked, he could die fighting. The game is incredible at various times in history, for example, the flashbacks, I got really emotional and it was very well done, in the end my opinion is quite divided but I understand the message they wanted to send but I think I could have the option to kill Abby or not because it was up to each player to decide. The perfect game does not exist everyone has its defects and flaws but the last of us part ll is worth… Expand

    TLoU2 boasts a complex story that takes Ellie on a struggle to put meaning to her own existence that sees her fighting through the infected, a paramilitary force, religious zealots, amazing environments, her own demons, and sadly a bunch of real world bigots. Yeah, there's some gay stuff in it - Ellie's gay. If this offends you, well that's on you. Gay people are real, get over it. The Last of Us Part II is incredible. The visuals, gameplay, adventure and story are second to only one. The Last of Is Part I is the best game of all time. Part II does not dethrone the king, but eff - it comes pretty close.    … Expand

Which is good, because I didn't need to relearn some new difficult controls. The story is ok. I mean I definitely didn't expect that. I am a bit disappointed. Just a bit. But otherwise, the storyline is brutal. I didn't expect it to get so dark since the first part is mostly about Ellie's and Joel's relationship. If you don't like violence and extreme brutality, the this game is not for you. But otherwise I enjoyed killing everyone. I like that they added some new killing ways. And I think that people shouldn't be so mad at the game and the developers. I think its a beautiful experience.

    Amazingly beautiful game. Had me hooked from beginning to end. I recommend spending as much time searching around, and exploring every corner. You get more out of the game both content wise, and from the story. As for the story, there were some points that didn't hit well. But overall, I think it was a worthy sequel to the first game. Seré sincero al empezar, aún no lo termino pero creo que me faltan pocas horas para completarlo, y con lo que llevo de juego creo que sería más que suficiente. La verdad el juego me está encantado como su apartado visual como su sistema de combate, pero la historia no deja mucho que desear, me atrevería a decir que en ese tema naugthy dogt si le faltó pero lo que hicieron es más que suficiente como para dejarme satisfecho, se que hay gente que solo puntúa mal el vídeojuego por el tema de la sexualidad de Elli y.... se me hace muy estupido eso ya que en la primera entrega eso se había confirmado y si solo le van a poner haté con eso es gente con muy poca inteligencia y falta de respeto ya que no tiene NADA de malo eso, es por eso que el mundo está como está corrupto, manipulado y con gente muy absurda. Y también hay otros como gente con otras consolas que solo viene a criticar por no tener el juego es solo gente que quieren que le hagan caso, o también es porque en vez de jugarlo se pone a ver gampleys y ya empiezan a critcar su historia. En mi opinión Naughty Dog hizo un gran juego pero no se compara con la primera entrega, y que con estos hates no se pongan tristes ya que es solo gente que viene a criticar sus obras maestras ( basura de personas).… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Everyone giving this game 0-4 haven’t had many good reasons for hating this game that I’ve read. I’ve seen a lot of people talking about how bad the ending was (just because it wasn’t where most games/films would go, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad ending). Now I do agree that it feels like Ellie went through all that effort and pain almost for nothing by letting Abby live. But I commend ND for doing something kinda of different (It especially contrasts from the first game). By Ellie seeing a vision of Joel it seems as if she realises that she’s almost replicating his actions from the first game by going on this mass revenge spree.
    All in all I believe this ending fits the theme of the back half of this game.

    As for all these plot holes everyone keeps going on about the only real one I was confused about was why Abby never turned after Ellie bit her arm in the theatre. But other than that it was a fairly solid story.
    From everything else I’ve seen it doesn’t seem like people really have actual reasons they hate this game so much, others have said they don’t like the “agenda” they’re trying to push, but in all fairness by complaining that Ellie is gay and there’s a trans character (that isn’t Abby, I mean really everyone’s complaining about it but she’s clearly always been “Abby”, that’s proven in flashbacks. Sorry you’re scared of her because she’s just absolutely ripped). But if you’re complaining about the agenda by doing that you’re just pushing your own agenda of non acceptance. Call me woke or whatever but just because you don’t usually see people like this in other games doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Just wake up and realise that they aren’t the point of the game, they’re just there like they are in the real world.

    Quick one too, and it’s important. JOEL BEING KILLED DOESN’T RUIN/MAKE IT A **** GAME. It’s clearly here as a story driver (hence we wouldn’t have this game, which some people including myself agree that we didn’t really NEED a sequel, but that’s beside the point now). Joel really did kill a lot of people in the first game, he was going to die at some point; and someone seeking revenge on him should never have been out of the question, Abby’s agenda was fairly legit and not overly arguable, Joel really did kill everyone. Now this brings me to what I didn’t enjoy (hence a 9)
    While the story was in my opinion super solid and another incredible story driven journey across post apocalyptic America. It did drag on at times; especially when playing the same three days as abbey straight after playing them as Ellie. Giving Ellie a beating playing as Abby was also incredibly hard to bring myself to do as we’ve painted Ellie as the heroine the entire two games. There were also a few times where I would sit there almost stunned about where the story went. Often taking a moment to comprehend how the story jumped, Although none of this really affected my opinion of the game overall. To me. The Last Of Us part two is an incredibly detailed, immersive and stunning game, with a solid story and an always incredible performance from all the actors. To me it wasn’t quite as masterful as the first game, but still a worthy sequel to what I believe is one of the greatest games ever crafted.    … Expand

Everyone did not expect that this part not about relationships between Ellie and Joel. I'm from East Europe and I also don't support homosexual ideas but in-game I did not feel that Dina was specifically included in the game for the sake of praising Drakman's Liberal Ideas. In the first part we knew that she loves girls and not anyone said that this game is bad. I love this world and anyone can’t destroy it.… Expand

Joel died this way because it's a real world. Nothing happens like you want. Joel survived for so long and his death was heart breaking. Knowing that Ellie saw it breaks my heart even more. I was really confused when they made us play for Abby. I hated her for kiling Joel and didn't want to play as her character. But it showed us lives of other people. That sometimes people kill not because they want to. They driven by emothins and circumstances. I hate this part, but if ND wanted to show us this I'm okay with that. But I wanted to play more as Ellie. About ending. I hate it. Because it's sad and devastating. Ellie ended up alone. That's what she was scared of the most. And it happend. I hate it. About her don't killing Abby. As much as I hated her I knew Ellie not going to kill her. Abby maybe killed Joel but she spare Ellie's life two times. That have to count for something.     The journey that we are called to undertake will make us feel on our skin all the emotions that the protagoinists will experience, their mood, their sufferings, and their cold blood in carrying out certain actions. What about excellent animations, certainly superior to those of the first chapter, excellent artificial intelligence, infected enemies who better use their hearing that will identify us even at the slightest noise. The atmosphere created in the rooms is of the highest level, with great play of light and shadow. The only thing that made my nose turn up are the various time swaps between past and present which tend to make the player's narration and understanding confusing.    … Expand

I am a massive fan of the first and i can understand why some fans may be disappointed that this doesn't include Joel and Ellie as much as we expected. However part 2 shows a story how noone is the bad guy and no one is the good guy as we see the story from ellies perspective and also abbys. You spend about half the game as each character and as I was reluctant to play as Abby at first I slowly started to understand what the game was trying to tell me. That anything can happen in this world and its not just our beloved characters that go through the pain and traumas of this world., but everyone that ellie and joel have killed. The beauty of this game if you learn to like abby and understand her choices and the game confuses you by conflicting your own feelings about who you want to win. In terms of gameplay, it is next level. Probably the best level design I have seen in a game and my heart was pounding the whole way through each encounter. ALMOST every story beat is either a flip or a direct continuation of the certain dialogues from the first game. For example: in the first hour of the first game, Joel loses his daughter and in this game Ellie loses her "father". Even the ending upon reflection is a direct response to Ellies conversation to Sam when she says Shes afraid of ending up alone. I really enjoyed the The Last of Us Part 2, the game really makes an effort to have you understand the choices that were made and fleshes out certain details to give you more insight to the world naughty dog has created. The characters were some one of the highlights for me! I also appreciate the fact that the characters Though I didn’t agree with every story beat, I was able to enjoy almost the thing in its entirety.… Expand

They dont treat Joel, a 60+ year old man who used to kill and steal from inocents, as a demigod so loved that he can trick death, insted they kill him as the human he is. I also enjoyed Abby's story, as it shows us how after all she is just as Joel, a survivor that eighter kills or dies and will do anything for his group. The end is the most logical move they could make. Ellie finally sees what she did, and understands killing Abby wont change anything, so she breaks the vengeance loop that started with the death of Abby's dad. The end is probably the most symbolic part, as it shows Ellie leaving Joel's guitar behind. Overall a pretty good story, no matter how much you loved Joel… Expand

    1)Gameplay. It didn't change much since the first part. I was not very thrilled with it in the first place, though I've found it more enjoyable in the second part than in the first one even considering the almost double length. However, I would like to point out that this rather simple gameplay loop doesn't fit very well with the amount of time you spend with this game which made me hate every stealth section during certain periods of the game (like early part of the second half). I would say that if you liked gameplay in the first part, you are going to like it here. If you disliked it - you will probably still dislike it though a little less.

    2)Characters. All the characters (for me with the exception of Ellie) act either completely reasonable or at least fully understandable by me. I didn't give a single darn about Ellie when the game begun, started liking her and relate to her closer to the middle and felt very sorry for her in the end. I hated Abby throughout the entire game but closer to the end my hatred wore off a bit though explaining her motivation didn't do anything to me since I expected her to be fully motivated to do all she did in the first place. The rest of the characters were either insignificant to me (like Dina or Lev) or had too little time to shine (like Tommy or Jesse) though the last two did very well with the time they've got.

    3)Aesthetics. Views are always gorgeous designers should take my applause. Game looks very great. However, we have a classic problem of a left-viewed director thinking too much about deactualisation woman thus making every single one of them either from just not really attractive to ugly (like Ellie or Dina or some random females) to an absolute monstrosity like Abby during most of the game: the implausible amount of muscles, garbage haircut, sometimes bizarre-looking faces made me feel like it is just a weird-looking man voice acted by a woman.

    4)Story. MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD. It didn't really develop (for me) in the first part of the game (except the very beginning when Joel got killed. Then, well, almost nothing happened: yeah, Ellie was going to point A, then B, then C, e.t.c. This part looked more like a character development part and it served its purpose right, so not much to complain about. Then Abby comes after Ellie and here I feel like the writer made a mistake: we've switched to Abby after the moment she points the gun towards Ellie which creates intrigue. For me, it made playing Abby far less interesting because I didn't really care about her and because I was already a little bit tired with gameplay and now I had to play for roughly 8 more hours with progression being reset. It didn't feel right. Now I would like to look at some of Ellie's decisions. First, she decided to go after Abby instead of helping Tommy even though they agreed with Jesse to go only for Tommy even if it means leaving Abby alive. I don't like it but it is believable for me. Second, in the end of the Santa Barbara mission: in the end, Ellie frees Abby and during the fight when she takes the upper hand Ellie doesn't finish Abby off but lets her go instead. I can understand why this happened - to make me feel sorry for Ellie as with her revenge she got nothing left: she can't return to Tommy since she didn't kill Abby, Dina left her, Jesse got killed mostly because of her (if she had gone with him for Tommy she wouldn't have left the map and wouldn't have led Abby to them), she's lost two of her finger so she can't play the guitar which is the only legacy of Joel. But I don't find this decision believable. Just think about it: she has left Dina knowing she is unlikely to ever see her again, she took a hike to Santa-Barbara, which is presumably far from home, she had gone through thugs in Santa-Barbara while being injured, then she forced Abby to fight and just couldn't finish? I guess it is all about her regret of killing Abby's friends which we could see after she did that but it just doesn't line up for me: if she felt regretful for carrying the revenge, then why she left everything she had behind for the sake of this revenge even when she had a great opportunity to start a new happy life? if she is not regretful and still full of the urge to avenge Joel, keep her promise to Tommy then why she choked in the very last moment? Was this last revenge journey this long for her to change her mind, did it happen in the very end? Why then? I can't comprehend this myself and I don't really believe in it. Or maybe I don't want to believe in - I don't know. Still, I would like it to end differently.

    Overall, my experience with this game was better than with the first one. This one had some ups and downs with it, downs mostly on gameplay part for me. I would give this game either 8 or 8.5 but I would round it up to 9 because of these review bombers.    … Expand

    The story is gripping and certainly not for your average "fairytale" story gamer. The combat is intense and the amount of detail in the game is fantastic. How they can pull out this game on a 2013 machine is pure development mastery.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game was great. The visuals were fantastic. The atmosphere was chilling. I was at the edge of my seat for most of the game. I can understand why people hate how the story played out. The story was conflicting to me but I liked it. I like the new elements added and the amount of customization in the settings to play your way. Custom controls. Aids. Visuals. It's a lot for a console game. The pacing was good. It got a bit slow before I realize I only had beaten half the game.

    Spoilers Below

    The game makes you see what happened from both protagonists perspective. You feel bad for Ellie. But it makes you also feel sympathy for Abby. It's so conflicting.

    You get so angry at Abby for killing Joel. And especially after Ellie let her live at the end. But you also have to remember, it was unfortunately Joel's actions that led to this. Joel stopped the vaccine from happening. He basically destroyed the fireflies. He killed Abby's father.

    And also remember, Ellie hated Joel for making the choice for her. She wanted to die on that table. Abby in turn for what she did, basically lost everything. Four of her friends were killed in the hands of Ellie and Tommy. And she got the crap beaten out of her to the point of pleading for her life.

    We all hate Abby for what she did to Joel. I cried when he died, but ultimately it was his own fault for what happened.

It does have wonderfull graphics, an amazing story, a solid gameplay and it makes you think. Also it have a decent dificult campaing with faster and intelingent enemies that'll make you pay for being stupid. The only negative point is the camera too close that makes you take damage just because you can't see the enemy behind quick enough to avoid them. Don't be fooled for negative post about the game. Joel died and Ellie is gay. Now deal with it. People dies everyday and don't pretend the world have no lesbian engagement. El juego me sorprendió la verdad no esperaba nada después de ver las filtraciones pero decidí jugarlo y no juzgarlo antes de probarlo, su apartado gráfico es muy sorprendente el diseño de cada entorno está muy bien hecho y logrado,su jugabilidad es excelente y cómoda,nos muestran un mundo más realista y sangriento que se acerca mucho a cómo sería el mundo en un estado post apocalíptico donde las personas harían cualquier cosa por sobrevivir, ahora pasando a la historia desde mi punto de vista comparado con la del 1er juego está un poco por debajo pero no es una mala historia cuesta aceptar el giro de 360 que dio la historia pero nos intenta explicar que aveces nuestras acciones traen consecuencias ,la muerte de Joel apesar de que no murió como un héroe nos enseña que no todos pueden morir de forma memorable,el final me disgusto un poco por todo lo que sufrió y perdió ellie para llegar hasta su objetivo para cumplir su venganza y que al final haya dejado vivir a abby no me gusto mucho, me hubiera gustado que nos hubieran dado la opción de elegir si dejarla vivir o no.

    Great game, gorgeous graphics and strong (painfull) storytelling. The controls take some getting used to but by the end of the game I had no issues getting around. This game does something most games don't. It gets you to feel bad for the things you do. For example the dogs, I hate to kill them but seriously f*ck those dogs.

    This is one of the best games I've played in a long time. I finished the first game right before I started this game and the gameplay isn't that much evolved but it's been more refined and stealth is done much better this time around. The game is brutal, sad and also makes you feel anger and for some reason people seem to take that as bad writing. I finished it today and can't stop thinking about it. Not many games leave me with that feeling. People like happy endings, this game will not give you that, and there is not wrong with such a thing. It's such a well written game, very polished with no bugs, frame rate was silky smooth on my standard ps4. Imo this is the best looking ps4 game as well, the sound design was awesome and made the gameplay even more intense. If you play this game and Don't like it then that's fair enough, but to rate a game poorly that you've never played it pretty moronic and a waste of everyone's time… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Absolutely loved this game. The darker tone and visuals really drove home the shift in attitude that Ellie goes through after Joel's death. And getting to play as his killer for half the game is a spectacular nuance to driving home the fact that these are all just people. Theine of revenge had to stop somewhere and Ellie realizes this far too late. Awesome storytelling… Expand

    It's a shame that people are bombing this game because of their views on homosexuality or the LGBT community. This is a fantastic game that improves gameplay and mechanics from part 1. Sure, it has its flaws and the story is more all over the place and 9 times out of 10 sequels dont beat out the original, but how does any of this make people hate the game that much?     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well, the game is just amazing!! Joel's death was not expected (so soon) but it was the real trigger to all this. Also ok his death was "quick and brutal" but it's understandable. After his death all you can think is that Abby is a ***** and you want to kill her so bad until you see her face of the coin. Well, ok i understand what she did and why she did. Obviously Ellie goes nuts and wants to kill here and it's understandable too.

    This game just gives you the message that it's so easy to name Good and Bad without knowing all the story and that's what Humans do, they judge as fast as they drink a glass of water.

    The story of this game is good because of that. You can see everything and you can judge after but with all the facts and it's impossible to go through the game and feel the same way as you felt in the beginning.

    Also, the fact that the game shows how the conscience works, i mean, when you are with heat mind you are capable of anything until you start to cool down, you start to think about why you doing that and "i will be the same if i do it". Well, the story messes with you and you start think about stuff.

    The value of things is well shown here, with Ellie not forgiving him and "stay away from my life" until he dies and she feels guilty because he is not there anymore and she never did forgive him for real.

    That's the beauty of the game. The graphics are fine but not something you have never seen before, the music is very good but not amazing and the gameplay is TLoU 1 (mostly) and the game itself is way brutal and darker than the 1st one (understandable). So, for me, what really made me stay for soooo long in front of the TV was the story and, at the same time, thinking of the things i did in my life, the judgements i did at first sight and that probably i should care more about lots of things.     About 10 hours in and its almost all positive. Gameplay is great, graphics are next level, story line is full of drama and naughty dog didn't try to get too fancy with anything. I just wish there were more weapon gear customizations but not a big deal. 9/10 so far.

    I'm still a gamer, however due to family issues, I game exclusively on PC these days.     That said, this game blows me away, just like God of War did, and your enjoyment of such a masterpiece may vary depending on what you've experienced in life.
    For fathers, sons, daughters, mothers, young teenage lovers confused by the world... This game has so much life in it that I dare to call it the best collection of digital mimicry of the human experience in one game TO DATE.
    Red Dead Redemption 2 is a competitor where this is concerned, on the map, but it's not leading the race at this point.
    Sure, there's some angst with the overall story that fans of the first game won't like much at all, but the story goes beyond comfort zones that it's portraying much more than anything we've dared to create in this medium. It's a collection of extreme human experiences from a time unlike anything most people have lived through. And if you've done some of the things this game portrays, trying to survive in a hostile environment, and happen to be a parent with those same experiences, it will hit you square in the head with a pointy brick and leave you bleeding.

    That out of the way, there are a few glitchy technical parts with the actual game to discuss, this experienced from an observer's point of view who happens to have some expertise on the subject.
    The animations are a little rough here and there, stop-gapped with technology rather than fully hand-fitted. The mocap could have been better edited to fix that, but you'll notice it fairly often that it was done green-screen all the way, which does break immersion from time to time. Some of the interactions the player can do flat out break if the input is too quick, and the player body will be negatively impacted to the point a reset is needed. A lot of games these days have the same problem, so it's not exclusive to Naughty Dog.
    There's A LOT of npc teleportation going on, both with your companion and enemy AI. Sometimes it happens right in front of you, sometimes off camera, but it's very evident it's happening frequently. Same with the sound of dialog. It should be 'in tune' when the player and an NPC are face to face, but often sounds like it's off to one side or the other. Annoying, but not unforgivable.
    There's a few graphical issues I think could be better cleaned up for further fleshed out to really push the engine like better clothing maps, but not being a current gen console owner, I'm guessing it was downgraded for performance reasons.

    All of that out of the way, the environments recreated in this game are EXTRAORDINARY. It's not fully open world but enough so that there's always more than one option to a problem. There's tons of exploration to enjoy, and done within a fairly linear-modeled environment, it's just about the perfect middle ground I could think of between fully sandbox and a stone dead on-the-rails design. World and level design is astounding, and you can feel the life in it's creation; A LOT of talented artists put A TON of work into this, with passion and skill and endless refinement. If this game wins awards for anything other than story, this will be world design.

    Overall, THIS is still a game that is good enough that I would consider buying a PS4 to play, or even earmark for the next gen to wait on as it will probably never come to PC, most unfortunately. As previously noted, there's so much life in it that should be experienced by those looking for more out of their gaming voyage without pulling punches or worrying about your trifles with certain comfort zones.    … Expand

    Excellent gameplay. Seen a lot of bad reviews and I think this purely due to an early plot point. Needlessly badly reviewed. Very cinematic game. Wonderful characterization, and obviously great graphics. Would definitely recommend and ignore the bad reviews. Make your own mind up about the story but I had fun.

    Passed this game in 3 days almost non-stop. It was important for me to understand whether this game is fairly set to 0 points on Metacritic.
    I do not agree with low scores. The game tells a difficult story that can really upset you. But that does not make the story bad.
    I subtract one point for the length of some sections of the game, but the finale is worth it.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
