I’m gutted with what Naughty Dog have put out here. We have been victims of false advertising and pure lies. From the trailers we were shown, we were expecting a game about Joel and Ellie. We didn’t get this and to make matters worse, the story is terrible, it’s jumbled together and the writing and pacing is so far off the first game, it’s almost like there has been a completely different team writing this story.

The only good thing about this game is the gameplay and graphics. The level of detail that has gone into this is brilliant, at times I thought I was looking at real humans. The world of the last of us is great, but in a story driven franchise, when it’s not up to par, it will drag everything down with it. The ending of this game will leave you feeling angry and upset, there is nothing satisfying about it and nothing gets cleared up. It appears Naughty Dog have tried to do something different with this game, but it doesn’t work and it’s a mess. It feels like a big political statement and a message about revenge is bad being shoved in our faces.

In my honest opinion I had to set the difficulty to very easy after the first couple of hours into this game just to get through it, it wasn’t a good experience at all. We was told by Neil Druckmann himself that the Last of Us is about Joel and Ellie, this game isn’t. I bought it as I had to play it as I consider the first game the best I’ve ever played. However, after this I will not be purchasing anything Naughty Dog put out in the future. Save yourself £60 and don’t buy it.

It did well in keeping with the first game’s ending and giving it a twisted continuation. It made it feel like Joel’s decision was bad and actually made you think if it was right or not. I feel as if every decision made by characters seemed reasonable because it actually did add up in the end. I feel as if it was a little shaky, which is why I can see all the hate towards it. But overall I believe it was a good game. Maybe the journey isn’t over yet. I would honestly like to know where Naughty Dog takes this. But I guess for now we wait. Expand

We didn't get to see her personality shine at all through all the anger and revenge. The graphics are the best in the console, and it’s a technical masterpiece that perfects everything the first game got right. The atmosphere, animations and the details are masterful, and by seeing this I am unable to understand the people that claim the devs don’t care about this franchise. Because of these aspects, the game is nowhere between a 0 or a 3, as I keep seeing in reviews. But let’s talk about the story. I do think it’s a bit weaker than its predecessor (which I consider unfair to judge now, given that Part I has become a legendary game in the PS community), but it’s still more engaging that 90% of the games out there. Very few games have made me feel such strong emotions as Part II has. It’s been a week since the credits rolled, and I still can’t get the game out of my mind. And yes, Part I is a very important game to me. I’ve beaten it many times and it’s definitely on my top 3. There was no point in this game where I felt like the original game and its characters were disrespected in any way, and even if I had I would not have any right to demand how this game should have been, as many are. These are Naughty Dog’s characters, not ours.
But the game takes risks, and I completely understand that the way the story went is not what some were expecting. But for many others this has been a wonderful and emotional ride, and sadly our voice is not as heard.
Anyway, although not being perfect (a bit too long I’d say), not many games have been as special as this one for me, and that adds a lot of value, so there goes my 10. The Last of Us Part II is not the game we expected, but I really think it’s the masterpiece that was needed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

If there is no the last of us Part 1, this game's score would have been higher than 8.0. People giving it 0 is because they didn't like the story as much as TLOU1, which is a bias. i am okay with the story based on revenge, a lot of game/drama/series did that, it's nothing wrong with that. You don't like the story doesn't make it a bad game, it just disappoint you based on the high expectation you have.

First of all i would like to start by saying that i have never done a review (of any game) in my life. I am not biased towards saying the same as any other group out there, I just feel like I need to give my own opinion.
When the game was firstly announced i was thrilled and could not wait a second more to get my hands on it. The first game was a masterpiece storywise, despite having clunky controls and mechanics. Until the last of us part 2 was launched i managed to steer clear of any story leaks because i wanted to enjoy the game at its full potential. Unlike other reviews out there, i fully completed the game so i consider my review to be relevant.
The last of us part 2 is a disappointment in the only area that mattered - STORY. After playing the first installment you will realize how smoothly and realistic the relationship between Ellie and Joel becomes throughout the game. Every character in the first game is well written and even if he has little time screen, he is still well drawn. In the sequel, all the chemistry is lost. I reckon that by now everyone has either played or watched someone play the last of us part 2 so people know that Joel dies in the worst way possible. I think that Neil Druckmann does not understand the fury of the fans: its not that they killed Joel, but his death felt like the work of someone who got bored of writing and just wanted to be done with it. The moment is sudden, does not fit with what gamers expected and it absolutely does not fit with how we know Joel would act in that instance.
I know that Neil called his fans bigots because he thinks that the whole population is against lesbianism; most of us allready knew from the "Left Behind" DLC that Ellie had different views and we had no problem with that, mostly because the way it was presented made sense and did not feel forced. In TLOU2 you are forced to play with Dina as a sidekick because the producer wanted to show us the difficulty of being a same sex couple in a world that never exists in real life. There were hundreds of different ways to send this message without feeling force fed to us. As a matter of fact, i didn't even like Dina that much because it always felt like her dramas were everyone's dramas.
There are not all negatives of course: the game mechanics are an improvement from the first game, graphics are top notch and the overall feeling of the surrounding world and how you interact with it is great. Unfortunately this is all the positives i have to say about this game. The game was too long and considering that this is not a Rockstar production then i don't see a point in making a 20-30 hour long story. Abby's story was not nearly as bad as people critic it but I think playing as her is unnecessary. What they tried to do in her side of the story is connect her with another character the same way as Joel and Ellie connected. I would call this a dualism as both stories flow the same way (main protagonist finds a sidekick that he/she cares about, they go on an adventure riddled with obstacles and so on). i would also call this laziness in writing but I acknowledge the fact that I might be wrong.
The ending is where the biggest difference is made. Had it not been for it, the game would have been a 7, or even an 8, but how the story finishes is just awful. It again feels as if they were taking too long to finish the game and just wanted to be over with. The developers wanted to make us understand that violence gets us nowhere and they are right, but not in a video-game. If i play something i want to do stuff that i wouldn't in the real world. So to put me in the middle of a fight and then stop because Ellie's conscious kicked in is just stupid and anti-climactic.
Last but not least I despise how Ellie is depicted - it feels totally out of place; from the girl that had funny remarks when faced with death, she turned into a regretting, sobbing character that feels as if she gave up. The most annoying part is near the end, where she has been drawn to resemble a hillbilly. She looks as if she drinks during the day and smokes near children. Yikes. Honestly she looks as if she gave up on life just to raise a child. Furthermore she dresses like she is about to go to a country festival in a beat up town.
To conclude, i think that there is still room to recover from this huge blow. What needs to be done is to fire that smug faced Druckmann, and go and beg Bruce Straley to come back and direct. If NaughtyDog wants to be the game-studio of choice for the consumers, then it should do as the consumer directs and not think about being politically correct. Even though there are many more to say ( like miss-directing the customer through advertising or how they said you don't have to kill a dog but you still have to) I think that this game is a total let-down. If the first game's story was all about "It can't be all for nothing" The Last of Us 2 story's is "it is all for nothing". Overall the game deserves a 6 out of 10.

The combat and general gameplay is great as well, the superb stealth sections stand out in particular. I do recommend playing the game on a higher difficulty, to really hammer home the survival horror aspects of the game. All in all, the game is just great, and people like different things, who would've thought. However almost every bad review I've seen and read for this game, boils down to "I don't like girls, lesbians and Ellie isn't a straight white male, so I can't relate to her". I hate to break it to you, but you're not really similar to Doomguy or Dante either. The game's story is beautifully crafted, and feeds off the momentum of the first game. The Last of Us 2 should, and will be remembered as one the defining games of it's generation. Expand

I'm sorry, but I can say only one thing about this game. This is a fkn piece of sh*t. I used to be a fan of Naughty Dog, very big fan. Ofc I was very huge lover of TLOU, but second part is really such a sh*t, that I threw my PS 4 Pro in garbage container and that isn't joke. I bought it only because of TLOU 2 and they destroyed my favourite game... Thank you, don't buy this piece of crap...

A disappointing sequel filled with a disgusting agenda: men bad, white people bad and racists and homophobes. Other than that, I think Naughty Dog should keep doing politically charged games! It's not like those racists are going to alienate their main base and sink their company in the ground.

Anyway, all characters deserve all things what happening with them. Ok, we got the director idea. But it was unjustified long and boring... Jump here, crouch there 30 hours in a row hahahaha. I almost drop the game when Neil force me to look at the other side. It wasn’t work for me. NO ANY SIDE CHARACTER IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR MY SADNESS (on the other side). Ok. Maybe this game would be a good tv series, but not good enough gameplay game. Ooooh yeah the one side character with some gender ide ntification problem) It’s my favorite part of unnecessary SJW in the game) First of all, it is completely unreal situation in the post apocalypse. Secondly, it’s looks so stupid. Than, i like the design of all things in the game. Visual part of this game so amusing (ofc not talking about downgrades). But story is not for TLoU fans. It’s become so obviously what Neil want to make you feel in the middle of the game, but u have to do repetitive gameplay and listen the uninteresting npc’s...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While not *quite* as tight in its storytelling as the first game (both Abby and Ellie’s individual sections drag a little) the ambition of this sequel is incredible and something that I haven’t seen in a story-driven game to this level before. Naughty Dog took risks in their storytelling that ultimately paid off in their intention to make an entire player-ship question their motives and morals throughout. For all of the complaints about this being a game that ‘disrespects’ Joel, ultimately this wound up being a love-letter to Joel, while somehow simultaneously understanding how his actions could drive somebody to revenge, allowing us to understand their motives at the same time. Gameplay is much improved from the first, with general encounters being considerably more engaging, and set-pieces, especially the Scar Island Escape allowing for the gameplay to be leagues ahead of the first game. It’s also beautiful enough to almost qualify as next-hen, and ultimately will be remembered as *the* game of this generation of PlayStation games. Masterpiece. Expand

It's been six days since I finished playing The Last of Us Part II and it took some time to really think about it.

I want to start with the things I liked about this game. First of all, I obviously want to point out how good the graphics and animations are - I was blown away by how detailed every location was and how you could feel every emotion the characters felt in all of the cutscenes. I like how fluid all the movements seem and the (outer) character design is gorgeous.

I am also a fan of the gameplay - I liked that the areas were bigger in this game and that you were able to explore everything kind of on your own by just strolling through the streets. The way how they kept the gameplay of the first game on one hand, and how they expanded it on the other hand is a good choice as well. To be able to move forward by crawling and also shooting and healing yourself from this position is a nicce addition to the rather "stiff" gameplay of part I. The only thing I am not a 100% okay with considering the gameplay and the surroundings is, that it was simply too much for me. Personally, I was annoyed with how much you can look around and how much you can find, but that's just my own preference I guess.

Now I'm coming to the stuff I had the most problems with. I just could not really emphasize with Abby as a character. I can only imagine what the intentions of the creators were - to see that everyone is capable of doing horrible things, but that this doesn't necessarily make you a bad person - the thing is, though, that although Joel did terrible things aswell, I was much more willing to "forgive" him for that. Seeing Joel die is not my main problem (again, it's just my preference that I would have loved to see Joels and Ellies relationship evolve even more in Part II), it's just the way it is dealt with and how I am forced to play as Abby for more than half of the game. I was very angry at first, but that feeling vanished the more I played Abby. Instead, I became numb. I simply didn't care what happened to her, which is even worse than being angry the whole time. I just wanted to play as Ellie. I felt that the player was forced to feel sympathy for Abby and failed to do so. I would have been okay to dig into Abby's story for two hours or so, but more than 10? As much as I tried to enjoy the experience and to collect all of the stuff etc., I got sadder and sadder and it wasn't an enjoyable experience for me.

And that ending! Ellie has lost everything - honestly, I would even be happier if Abby and died together in their last fight! As much as I loved the gameplay etc, I simply can not overlook the story of a story based game. It wasn't the experience I waited and hoped for the last 7 years.

Outro ponto interessante, é o combate corpo a corpo!

The Last Of us Part 2 é uma Masterpiece dessa geração, e merece ser apreciado por todo dono de PS4.

Tommy loses an eye and gets divorced from his wife, and the worst of it all Abby is the ONLY one in the game who gets revenge, thaaaat's right... at the end of the game Ellie gets a chance to kill Abby and DOESN'T EVEN DO IT. its like watching Avengers end game and tony snapping his fingers at thee end and dies but leaves Thanos alive.. or or its like avengers infinity war when Thanos snaps his fingers and half of the universe is gone and.. that's it the end, no sequel.. honestly i don't see how 42,000 people can give this game a positive review i don't see it, and the reason why people hate this game is not because of the lesbian stuff that is in it, we watched Ellie kissed a girl in a dlc and kissed another girl at E3 last year and people still pre-ordered the game until the leaks came out and saw what happen to Joel.. the reason why i'm giving this game an awful review is because this STORY DRIVEN GAME HAS NO PAY OFF AT THE END.. NONE. i would say rent it first, and then if you like it then you can waste your money. Expand

    The PC was too outspoken.
Even I felt repulsed because I had no discriminatory thoughts about PCs.
It was an attitude to teach with a sense of moral superiority, but it was not that high, and it felt like I was forced to continue eating uncomfortable food.

Basically, the last of us Part 2's sense of subject or story is not very unconventional. Rather, it's more like a cliche.
What was the reason for showing an obvious story through unpleasant plots and directing?
I have no idea what the benefits of him are.
Regardless of the unpleasantness of the PC or story, the composition itself seems to have dropped.

I think Star Wars : the last Jedi and the sequel to the masterpiece can be a challenging choice. It would have been a more destructive story if it had done well because the return was a bold but big approach.
But it failed miserably in an unconvincing way.
Shouldn't we focus first on showing the game to the public as a culture and art and enjoying it? It is too irresponsible to draw only the pictures they want.

Is there anyone who made this fun?
Especially for people like me who have deep memories of their previous work...
To be honest, it was more like a last of Earth sequel.
It was a series of inconveniences while playing games.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me just start off by saying that I have never played a game that was full of this much emotion and complexity. The game is incredibly beautiful, rich in details, the exploration and scenery was gorgeous and I really enjoyed the gameplay. Magnificent audio and level design and breathtaking graphics made this one of the most beautiful worlds ever created. The story is shocking and real. And overall the game is top tier and emotion filed journey that had me bawl my eyes out a few times but I will definitely be going through that again and getting that 100%.

As for the story...what I got from it is that this is a story about the cycle of revenge/violence and the strength and empathy required to let it go and end it.

Joel’s death was brutal and happened very quickly in the game and made me pause the game and put down my controller because it was so upsetting. But moving forward and seeing Abby’s side of the story, her experiences and feelings I realized those events/moments were necessary for the plot progression/character motivation. Now, don’t get me wrong, I hated Abby at first and was hoping Ellie would get to kill her by the end of it but we all know the cycle of revenge is never supposed to be pretty and if coming to this game and the story of it, you expected everyone to live through the story, I’m sorry but it just doesn’t make sense to me and it’s not realistic. I know I did not expect it to be pretty and that’s how it was.

Revenge never ends well, it’s a vicious cycle which takes the actions of someone to break. If it doesn’t break people will get hurt/killed in the process, it’s just inevitable and it’s what happened here. First with Abby’s dad and Joel, and then other casualties along the way on both sides. I can’t say I love it but I can’t say I hate it either because I understand it.

What we saw with Ellie after she killed Nora, Mel and Owen, and at the farm later on, isn't someone that enjoys killing and is comfortable with it. We saw/felt the guilt that she carries with her for it. We saw her PTSD, flashbacks, read about her not being able to sleep nor eat, or enjoy her ''happy'' ending with Dina and JJ at the farmhouse. It’s literally eating her away and breaking her down and we can see that, both physically and mentally throughout the game. She was so consumed by rage and need of revenge that she lost herself on the way, to the point she couldn’t continue living like that and had to/needed to go after Abby for herself and for those around her. And by letting Abby and Lev go she ended her cycle, the same way Abby did previously with letting Ellie and Dina go at the theater.

Now, I would have definitely preferred the story alternated between Ellie and Abby’s stories for the Seattle days. It would have helped with the pacing and that way I wouldn't be rushing through Abby's parts of the story just wanting it to be over because I was so worried for Ellie.

One other thing that has been bugging me for a few hours now tho, and it’s not necessary the story’s fault but rather my own for being so attached to a fictional character but what’s new there lol. But anyway what has been bugging me is that essentially Abby got the better ending imo. I mean with the end game title screen and the boat being docked near the Avalon/Catalina Island implies she and Lev made it safely to the Fireflies. So Abby is going back to her “dream“ life with a loving person by her side.

Meanwhile, we have Ellie walking out of the farmhouse to the woods which implies she is headed back to Jackson to be with Dina and JJ. She broke this revenge/violence cycle by sparing Abby's life and letting go of her immense need of revenge. And sure, like I said, it isn’t supposed to be ideal BUT it just sadness me seeing my sweet baby girl hurt, all alone and not being able to play the guitar properly in that dream farmhouse she and Dina got, when being alone is what she feared the most and playing the guitar is something that Joel taught her and connects her to him and is something that brings her comfort. And the fact that she left for Jackson without the same guitar Joel gave her just brakes my heart even more. I get it symbolizes letting go of her anger towards both Joel and Abby but oh man :(

And let me just say one more thing. If you played the game and didn’t enjoy it that’s completely fine, I’m not here to disregard your opinion. I just have an issue with people who haven’t played the game going around saying the game is terrible and giving it bad scores/reviews all across the board only because they heard/saw bits and pieces of the story/game that they didn’t like and completely dismissed the rest of it solely on those few bits and pieces. I just find that very unfair and pitiful thing to do. And sadly I’m seeing a lot of those so that’s why I’m saying it.

And to the anti-LGBT peeps out there, you can go **** yourself!!

I had to process this for a few days. Ugh where to start? The original is one of my favorite games ever made. The storytelling alone rivals most blockbuster films today. The bond between Joel & Ellie was intoxicatingly beautiful. And when I heard the sequel announced years ago I was beyond excited. Even though the first game was a close shut experience.

But ngtl the more I heard about this the last two years the more I was dreading it. Up until the release date I was scared it would ruin what its predecessor accomplished in gaming. Did it? Well yeah. Okay let’s do this. To start off, the story is eh compared to its legendary counterpart. And I love Ellie don’t get me wrong but—she’s not compelling as a main character which is why she worked well as a supporting character. This game had to invent an arc for her by destroying a more rich character’s narrative. The arc of Joel was tremendous and this game just throws it away for a **** revenge plot that goes no where. It was a crime to fans. Now all my criticisms lay with the narrative as the game is gorgeous! Definitely a technical achievement. The combat is more enhanced even though it’s your basic over the shoulder mechanics. Ngtl there was intense moments and I was zoned in. But going back to the plot, why was this game made? I’m here for story. The continuation of these characters &this world. Which could’ve been done so much better. The only time I got any levity was the flashbacks of Joel & Ellie which instead made me want to play the first game instead. Which in return made me more depressed. The reason for a character arc or a hero’s journey is to learn or grow from what the story drives the character. Which worked for Joel and him overcoming the death of his daughter in Ellie—but here no one learns a damn thing, even from an empty arc. And it’s not like I’m saying the game is bad. I as a narrative appreciater is just trying to understand why this sequel was made besides to piss off a dedicated fan base. I’m still mixed on this. And I’m happy people love it. But I expected more. Especially with its god tier predecessor. That should’ve been left well enough alone.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Having just platinumed the game a couple hours ago, I feel like I’ve had enough experience to actually give a review of this game, unlike many of the mindless drones who have given this game a 0/10 out of spite. A 0/10 review for almost any game is a slap in the face. A slap in the face for all of the hardworking programmers, QA testers, environment artists, actors, and everyone else involved. Whether you agree with the decisions the story makes, The Last of Us Part II is objectively NOT a 0/10. The graphics and environments are gorgeous. The attention to detail on display here is awe-inspiring. The actors behind these beloved characters give 110% and I would be baffled and angry if Ashley Johnson got little to no awards for her performance. Her performance is nothing short of breathtaking. Laura Bailey, Troy Baker, Ian Alexander, and Shannon Woodward all knock it out of the park with their performances as well. The animations team behind this game are some of the best in the business. Everything from the small nuances you see while managing your guns to the wide dodges you execute while in melee combat, it’s all top tier. The music by Gustavo Santaollala is nothing short of spectacular, just like the first game. You cannot look at me with a straight face and say to me that these things are bad. A 0/10 means that absolutely nothing is redeemable. A 0/10 is among the ranks of Big Rigs Over the Road Racing, or Ride to Hell: Retribution, or E.T. for the Atari. Those games have NO redeeming quality. I understand I’m probably speaking to a brick wall here, but if you take a second to look back on the game with even somewhat of an open mind, it becomes obvious that this game deserves so much more than a 0. Does it deserve a 10/10? I wouldn’t say so, but a 0/10 is an absolute insult, something Part II is far from.

The combat is taken up to the next level in this game as the stealth mechanics and gunplay are massively improved, almost feeling akin to Metal Gear Solid V and it’s amazing action-stealth gameplay. The story, while a lot of the plot points were spoiled for me, didn’t disappoint. If you have an open mind, and take these characters for who they are and not just “the girl who killed Joel”, then you might find yourself going on a journey with them that you didn’t expect enjoying as much as you did. Ellie’s journey as well as Abby’s are deep, emotional, and heartbreaking. The story is more than just “violence is bad” like a lot of critics of this game say it is. It’s a story about redemption, hate, love, and most of all, forgiveness. It’s about the lengths one will go to to destroy their entire well being for one goal, a goal that they might not even be satisfied with. It’s a story about questioning your morals, what you’re fighting for, and who the true enemies are in your life. It’s a story that deeply impacted me throughout my first 25 hour playthrough. You might not like that Joel died. You might not like that Abby doesn’t die. You might not like a lot of things in this story, and that’s fine.

The story is obviously not for everyone, and I don’t even consider it perfect. It’s got problems. The pacing is all over the place, with sections of the game sometimes stretching 1-2 full hours in one place. Another complaint: the sex scene. I understand the need for it in Abby’s arc, but we didn’t need to see the sex. The scene’s impact could’ve been accomplished through a cutaway, a lot like Ellie and Dina’s sex scene earlier in the game. The character of Mel is unlikable to me. Nothing wrong with Ashly Burch or her performance, I just didn’t like the way she was written. The flashbacks can often overstay their welcome, especially Abby’s. However, these complaints with the narrative are overshadowed by a lot of beautiful, emotional, depressing, and sometimes nauseating scenes. Ellie singing Take on Me is a standout, as were all of the flashbacks with Joel. All of my complaints about this game have to do with the story, it’s not perfect, but it’s far from the dumpster fire the leaks and leakers made it seem like it was (not to mention some of the details like Ellie dying were just flat out false).

I’m not saying you have to love this game, I’m not even saying you need to like it. I’m challenging you to see it from a different perspective. One that is unclouded by the leaks and bad reception it’s gotten from many people. If you play it again through that lens and still don’t like it, I appreciate the chance you gave it. This review was mainly aimed towards the people who are closed-minded and not understanding why people who like this game like it. It’s not better than the first. It’s not even better than a majority of Naughty Dog games, but I’m proud to say that I loved The Last of Us Part II. 9/10.

    Sigh...
Here we go, first of, I would want to start with the things I find positive about this game. For this generation, the game graphical performance is insane. The realistic approach for the art style, the intention to detail of the game level and environment, the facial and movement animation, all of that blow my mind away and I can not wait to see this game performance on the PS5

Here we go, first of, I would want to start with the things I find positive about this game. For this generation, the game graphical performance is insane. The realistic approach for the art style, the intention to detail of the game level and environment, the facial and movement animation, all of that blow my mind away and I can not wait to see this game performance on the PS5 later.

Unfortunately for me, that was it. Other aspect of the game really make me want to put the controller down. The first installment of the game was heavily relies on its story as its main drive. I don't know about others but I was enjoying the cut scenes more than the gameplay. For this second installment, the gameplay is basically the same as before, the stealth mechanism still not really thought out, multiple unnecessary violence, an uncomfortable sex scene, etc. Every time I encounter an enemy, it just does not feel as good, the gameplay sometimes can feel like a chore that I particularly hate to do but was forced to do so. I secretly wish I could skip it for the next cut scene.

Even more what make me scratching my head in frustration is, the cut scenes in this installment does not have the same level of enjoyment as the previous one. The premises of the first installment that really hook me is the unlikely relationship that was build between Joel and Ellie, two very different person that was impossible to become such as they are at the end of the first game, if it was not for the situation that they were in. The father daughter relationship that was build on trust and unexpected love. The first game also leave us with the big question on the quest for the vaccine.

The second game focusing on the wrong things, for me I always associates The Last Of Us as a story of Joel and Ellie, now Imagine that that you play Uncharted 2 but in the first two hour Nathan Drake was killed of by some random NPC and then you are force to play as the said NPC for 1/3 of the game so that you could 'understand' her reasoning while playing catch with some dogs. It could be a good stories if it was written properly with a proper build up, but there is nothing that could support the writer choice and reasoning for the story to unfold the way it did. After finishing it about 20 hours later, all I feel is the bitterness that lingering in my mouth, there was no hope or expectation or even desired to know more about what will coming next like the first installment left me.

You know what make me more uncomfortable, Naughty Dogs actually know what we, fans of the first installment want, but we only getting to peek at it through a series of flashback cut scenes rather to actually experiences it. But instead we are force to play as some unknown character and experience her pain.

This is undoubtedly my biggest disappointment in a video game that I have been expecting for almost half a decade. The game will obviously make its millions and will always reminds me that video games and its industry will always be business first, and Naughty Dogs that has set it foot as one of the most beloved game studio since last decades, has fall from its grace.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Parte 2 è probabilmente uno dei migliori titoli di questa generazione. The Last of Us Parte 2 ci suggerisce fin da subito di odiare colei che ha ucciso nostro "padre", scelta estremamente efficace e ben riuscita.

Gameplay and graphics were good but they're really the same as the first one. Although many have asked whether we even needed a sequel to the first game, I think that's a reaction to this story. There are so many different ways they could have taken the narrative arc that would have been better than what we got with this. Never seen such manipulation through narrative choices which force the player to do things which they wouldn't want to do in a game. The darkness of the majority of the first game made the lighter moments between Joel and Ellie all the more poignant. The development of that relationship made the first game. There is none of that character development in the second game. This is just a nihilistic, depressing slog through endless violence disguised as high art. After all that, you are rewarded with a completely ridiculous and unsatisfying ending.

The death of Joel is the most troubling aspect of this game. Not that he dies, but the way in which he dies. Having to play as his killer for a portion of the game fails to make the gamer feel sympathy for the antagonist. It feels cheap and manipulative. Forcing content consumers to dwell in the murky greyness between good and evil seems to be a recent theme in entertainment. The disrespectful end to Joel’s story has a very familiar feeling to it. The destruction of all that came before to make way for agenda-driven narrative is a well-trodden path for entertainment content creators recently, most notably with the horrendous The Last Jedi. I'm not talking about any of the SJW stuff that many others have mentioned, although there are many boxes ticked here. The agenda I'm talking about is the one rampant in much of modern entertainment that seeks to divide the audience as much as possible. Beloved movie and tv shows have been utterly destroyed by this agenda of divisiveness recently. There are too many to mention by name although I've already mentioned one of them above. Its almost as if someone is ordering creators to make the most divisive entertainment imaginable. This would certainly be in line with the wider world, especially in politics, which has seen increasing division recently. Whatever happened to making universal stories that resonate with everyone?

People should ask themselves why creators are making such divisive content and whether they want to continue to fund this practice. The best art will always reflect the hope inherent in the human experience, no matter how dark our experiences on this planet may appear at times. The first game has hope as the core emotion. The sequel doesn't resonate on a deeper, visceral level as its bereft of hope. That's why I think if people were honest with themselves they would realise the majority of praise for the game is only intellectual in nature.

I won't be buying a PS5 after playing this game and I certainly won't be buying any other Naughty Dog game in the future. If this is the future of gaming then I'm out.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
