    terrible story telling. Complete disappointment.
Wont go too much in detail.
The characters are all out of character, especially Joel and Tommy. They are apparently two biggest idiots in this game and blindly trust strangers. They re not stupid. They literally force you to play as Abby, person who killed Joel. They re p much forcing you to have a connection with Abby and her friends, but

I understand that at times it can be grim, and many may have been turned off by this, but I implore you to give it another chance, as where it ends up is fundamental to understanding and accepting these early beats.

I hope these people find it in their hearts to return to the game too, as the game is ultimately about the damage these notions can do to person beholden to them, and the ones that they love.

If you’re on the side of people willing to threaten and harass others because a piece of media isn’t what you expect, I hope you take this message to heart, as this toxicity will damage you and those around you. We can all be better, good luck.

I was waiting second part for so long and did not got disappointed. It's different, but it is not bad. I really enjoyed the storytelling trick. It made me really emotional and i was regretting things that was done by me in first part of the game. Interesting feeling when game forces you to do what you don't want to, that you will not find in most of games.
    Character development is great.

However this is last of us.. The game is purely selling for its story, and this is where things go south.
Characters that we love act completely out of character, Every so often you ll hear stuff about love, kissing ,Fing and doing other stuff. You know its true when the Crash Bandicoot Easter egg is a porn tape. This is the post apocalyptic world and everyone cares about having sex.
New Characters re added just for story convenience. Jessie's role was to leave Ellie's, girlfriend (Dina) pregnant to raise the bar and then get shotgun to the face. nothing else. Dina is just there to replace Joel in Ellie's adventure but their chemistry is just not here, and the only thing she does, is to keep saying Ellie she loves her and become an obstacle when she reveals she carry a baby. Owen is there as the good guy who prevents his team from killing Ellie early in the game, then reveal to Abby that he got another one pregnant to create this love's triangle its own problem and then get shot by Ellie.
Lily/Lev once again has no purpose in the game other than showing that his 'clan' kicked him out for shaving his head and acting like a boy, they tried to create this (Joel Ellie relationship) with these 2 where Abby protects Lev BUT its too late cause we the player Hate Abby for the mistreat of Joel and cannot accept her as the new Joel.

Joel the protagonist of the 1st game gets killed after 1:30 hour of playing the game to set the goal for Ellie. Joel's death was expected BUT i believe no-one expected him to act so out of character just for plot convenience , especially when you have 2 Ellie flashbacks where you see him act like he used to. (museum scene and). Even Tommy who was with him acted so out of character.
Last but not least we have Ellie, She loses her father figure early in the series, then she goes on this quest for revenge she kills and tortures people to get to her goal and when she does, she rescues Abby fights her, win and let her go. Its worth mentioning how the game had a time skip where we see Ellie and Dina having their own house with their baby and Ellie decides leave and go kill Abby after a long time has passed since their 2nd face off . She lost all of that to get her revenge just to stop. If i wanted a story with great power comes great responsibility Vibe i would have gone to Insomniacs Spider-man . It feels like going up mount Olympus to get water just to realize i left my bucket down to Athens.

The gameplay is amazing, better than the first one. You can easily go from sneaking your way around like Sam Fisher to beating everyone up like Kratos and it all flows together perfectly. Story (no spoiler here) is great too, very unconventional but great. Same goes for character development. The vast majority of people who complain about those too points either 1- didn't play the game and based their opinion on the leaks, 2-didn't finish the game and got mad at some point or 3- didn't understand it. everything in the story happens for a reason and everything any character does is justifiable and explained. NO character is "out of character" in this game.. except maybe for one thing near the end (not gonna say more because I want this to be spoiler free). Now is the game perfect, no, to me it's probably worth a solid 8.5 or 9 out of 10.. I give it a 10 to make my part in countering the tens of thousand of trolls and review bombers who gave it a 0/10 without even having played it and those who played it and again give it a 0/10 because they didn't like the story (which as I said, is objectively well written but just very controversial. It is meant to make the player feel angry and sad, it succeeded and those who can't handle it give it a 0). Remember, the vast majority of those who gave it a 0/10 made their review on the day of the release, considering the game takes around 25h to complete, it should be a good hint that they're just angry trolls. I spent over 100 hours with Joel and Elle and within the first hour of this gameplay, Neil slaughtered Joel and forced us to play 10+ hours as Abby and wish we can understand why she slaughtered Joel? NO WAY! In that world, everyone suffers, everyone has reasons, Even David has reason to eat human. I don't care what is Abby's reason, as long as she slaughtered Joel, she has to pay the price. Neil slaughtered my Joel, Naughty Dog will pay the price.
As for Abby's reason? Come on, Abby's daddy wants to kill Elle first, Joel is about to stop murder, this action is justified even under our current law system. Even if the goal is to create a vaccine, does anyone ask Elle first? No. Unless Elle wants to give her life to create a vaccine, Abby's dad is a murder. There is no justice for Abby's revenge, period. Not even to mention Joel just saved her life 10 mins ago.
Abby's story is meaningless, if she can turn back on WLF because someone just saved her life, then she shouldn't kill Joel in the first place. If Neil wants to convince me that Abby is a good guy, he nees to work harder.
I won't deny this game is a miracle. This is the first time in my gameplay history that I wish the character die in my hand. When I play Elle part, I am careful and I don't want her gets any injure, when I see the scars in her back, it breaks my heart. As for Abby, I don't care, no stealth, all face to face battle, I just want her suffers. I won't forgive her, never. If Neil don't let Elle kill her for vengeance, I will do it. During the batter, I often stop playing and just watch, how, runner, clicker, WLF, etc, kill her. I even let her fell on purpose. How dare Neil force me to play Abby? This is unforgivable.
I won't buy any games from Naughty Dog any more unless Naughty Dog officially apologies and fire Neil.

The Part II is built on this relation, which was complicated by what Joel did and told at the end of Part 1. There are even some scenes in the same time as the Part 1, so we can live those time once again.

But the weight of the second story is much more heavy. I felt like a Charlie Sheen in Platoon - I could observe two similar persons eaten by hate and violence (somehow similar to Sheen observing two sergeants). And like in the Platoon similar persons become totally different. One chose hate to the end for any cost, even its own best friends and loved ones. The second... is changing on our eyes and chose redemption, compassion and hope.

Meanwhile I could also watch the war, it's chaos and lies. At the end of the game I did what I could to not kill anymore if didn't need it, as I understood that what I was thinking about enemies before was simply not true - both sides had their rights and both were run by lunatics. And because the game shows violence so strong, I felt like I would really kill. And I felt these kills were bad.

It was great adventure and great story. But still I hated the zombie parts - that's why I take 1 point from 10 and my honest score is strong 9.

However unfortunately even the gameplay felt empty and ruined to me by the absolutely disgusting taste akin to vomit that this game left in my mouth. There's nothing I can say that hasn't already been said here or great analysis videos on youtube but in basics I'll just leave this:

I have been obsessed with TLOU since its release. It is a masterpiece and its storyline that closely follows Ellie and Joel as their relationship develops (as well as each of them separately as characters) is what brings everything about that game into harmony. I've played it so many times I've lost count. TLOU2 on the other hand is such a blatant insult to the first game I couldn't even force myself to finish it and instead settled on reading what happens before I promptly deleted the game as well as the extra content I got with my special edition preorder.

When the game got delayed for the final time I was given my money back by playstation and told I could repurchase the game if I still wished to. I now wish I hadn't. What a complete waste of money on a game that is pointless and brings the player no joy or enrichment. What made TLOU so special is gone, now in TLOU2 its legacy and reputation are left in ruins due to the garbled mess that is TLOU2.

Now, it got review bombed first because a bunch of bigots got their buttholes puckered over dumb stuff AND THEN because people apparently wanted everything the exact same as last time? And they felt misled by the trailer (which is good thing imo, trailers give away WAY too much). I guess I can't understand not wanting to know what happens. If you haven't played it, but think you know it's gonna be awful, I think maybe you should just play it and have an informed opinion. Is it heart breaking? Yes. But it's also...realistic and compelling. I walked away with an *intensely* different outlook and perspective on both the first and this game and the people in them. Basically if you like stories you should give this one a chance. It was moving in every emotion in the book. If you don't you're missing out and that's all I got to say on it Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game deserves its attention, it’s a pity for those young people who, most likely because of the aggressive mood towards the LGBT community or other incomprehensible moments, could not enjoy the game itself.
Graphics, production, plot, sound are all at a very high level.

This game breaks storytelling boundaries as the first one did, although it forgoes the simplicity of the first game. The story feels like a eloquently written T.V Show, with an episodic structure. Moreover, The Last of Us Part II is by far Naughty Dog’s largest game, in length and scope, spanning over 30 hours for my first play through. The game feels very well paced, albeit for the slightly prolonged ending, however, this does not detract from the true experience of the game. Additionally the gameplay system is very well done, with great feeling weapons, survival-horror like set pieces, that match the likes of the resident evil series, and calm, drawn out sequences that usher in a calm yet terrified feeling for the games many twists and turns are very tough to detect. Naughty Dog, has also gone absolutely above and beyond in their graphical fidelity of the game as well as animations. This game is by far the best looking game of the generation, with absolutely crisp visuals on both the standard PS4 and PS4 Pro, from the way water slowly darkens and muddles Ellies bags and clothes, to how naturally Ellie would react to her environment by sliding when she goes prone on a smooth surface, or put her hand against a shelf as she walks past it. Least but not least in the gameplay, is the gruesome melee combat, and although the dodge button adds quite a bit of variety to the melee systems, the melee combat system is very reminiscent of the first game, although in a good way. Each strike upon you or your enemies feels impactful, and heavy, from Ellies slashes of her switchblade, to the thundering thump of a pickaxe, melee combat never gets old with immense graphical detail from how blood splatters depending on where Ellie hits, to how dynamic your dodging feels. Overall this game stands up tall near the first game, for it offers a completely different story, that is much more haunting and revenge focused than the first one, however was a necessary evolution in Ellie and Joels relationship. I would also like to add that from viewing the leaks after completing the game, it seems possible as to why people were mad at the game, however the way Naughty Dog is able to piece the moments together turn out to be far greater than how the leaks portrayed the game. I would definitively recommend this game whether or not you have been previously spoiled. Expand

This game has and forever will divide players. Personally, this game is a masterpiece that has elicited certain emotions that no other form of media has before. Whether you are talking about its violent yet beautifully animated gameplay to its stunning graphical fidelity and impeccable audio design, there is no argument that Naughty Dog is on another level in terms of technical artistry.

How sarcastic that a game publicizes itself as being diverse and friendly to every group eventually showing discrimination and stereotypes towards Asians from every part of the game! Not to mention this garbage studio's parent company is Japanese. As a video gamer, I am ashamed for this industry to let such an electronic garbage full of bias and racism exists in the market.

FLASHBACK "Ellie, you need to take revenge ..." - I need to take revenge, FLASHBACK "No, Ellie, there is no point in taking revenge" - yes, I do not need to take revenge. This can describe the whole game.

Honestly, give me a month, I'll write twice as best on my knee.

The gameplay is exactly the same. Nothing "incredible", "IMPOSSIBLE" is not here.

Naughty Dog's most polarizing game yet was a real roller-coaster of emotions for me.
As is expected from this company, the game looks stunning and is immaculately polished. The gameplay feels smooth and adds a few layers to what we saw in the first game, but still sticks to its structure of "Find your way from point A to point B while dealing with enemies and gathering resources" with a few storyline sections sprinkled in with objects to interact with and snippets of conversations to have with your companions. They also took the lessons they learned from "Uncharted: The Lost Legacy" and added quite a few large open areas to explore filled with loads of optional collectibles, puzzles and story tidbits. Funnily enough, the game also has set pieces on par with the Uncharted series, despite this game's subtler storytelling.

Speaking of which... One of the best elements of Naughty Dog's games are their stories, and The Last of Us had their best story to date. In Part 2 the team made some very risky choices which clearly haven't gone down well with many fans.
The game's main theme is the endless cycle of violence the main characters find themselves in and how hard it is for them to break out of. Sadly, this is obvious from very early on in the game, meaning at least the first half of the plot becomes extremely predictable (and at some specific moments, strangely anticlimactic). Then the game throws a twist at us clearly meant to make us empathise with a particular character, and though at first it felt jarring, they did eventually manage to sell me on the idea.
It's a strange feeling, knowing that your characters are making bad decisions and forcing you to go along with them, knowing the best thing you could do for these people is to stop playing. Mashing the "attack" button and thinking "I don't want to do this... Stop making me do this." It's a feeling few games have given me and yet this game took it to the limit. Is that good? It didn't feel good. Maybe that was the point, but if so... is it an experience I want to have? As the credits rolled I was satisfied with how the story played out overall, but I did feel conflicted in many ways. It was probably a few hours too long and could've done with some additional editing. The gameplay loop also became repetitive hours before it was done. That being said, I applaud Naughty Dog for taking risks, even if they didn't all work out too well.

Technically the game is stunning, the combat controls were more responsive, and added enemies with new infected and dogs created new challenges. Some quite brutal. Speaking of brutal, the violence and savagery are pretty intense. Jump scares are used to heighten a situation, but not used so often that it loses impact. The story was divisive. I get it. You are making choices and taking actions that are well beyond normal human behavior. Yes there is a trans character. It isn’t Abby. Abby was humanized in her journey. The ending upset a lot of people. I thought about the end result of a series of choices that make sense. Ellie was fully warned before the final crusade what would happen. It came true. No one gets a happy ending. Considering the story beats and revenge at all costs, having nothing left seems fitting. For this sort lesson, repercussions were necessary. Expand

The last of us 2 I dont normally post reviews on games that i play but i believe this one is getting bad reviews for reasons that are unjust.

I understand all too well the feelings this game is forcing its players to endure. Having just beaten the game myself. And naughty dog has has woven a story built around upsetting the normal thought about a game and its characters. For those who have not played the last of us. In breif, joel is hired to escort a young lady, ellie, across the U.S. because she is immune to the cordyceps that have been turning humans into zombies. After traveling all the way to washington state and leaving her with the fireflys. Joel learns that they will have to cut into her brain to get the mutation out of ellie killing her in the process. Joel then breaks into the hospital killing everyone in the process to save ellie. The last of us one does a great job of narrating from joel position and making the player fall in love with the father daughter relationship that grew from the journey. Now getting into the last of us 2. Early on you are introduced to a lady names abby. No lead up, no explaination of who she is. Eventually she meets up with joel and her and her team beat and execute joel, with ellie present. They leave ellie and tommy, joel brother, alive as they did not have issues with them. Thus begins the main conflict of the game, or so you are lead to believe. There is alot of hate for this move, because noone like losing a beloved character. But there are reasons for everything. Ellie then begins her quest for vengence against abby. Tracking her all the way back to washington state. Seattle. Now i am going to stop story telling and start explaining why i believe this game is amazing and why people are reviewing it so poorly. This game is about vengence, and the cost of pursuing it. It is dark and gritty and, in my opinion, very accurate. Ellie kills hundreds of nameless people and quite a few that are known associates of Abbys, and in turn abby kills multiple friends of ellies. Though they never kill each other both sides take major losses. And in a twist i didnt even see coming, halfway through the game you swich to playing as Abby. Learning that she was not always the crazed killer ellie thinks of her as. She was the daughter of the doctor who was supposed to do the surgery on Ellie. The same one who gets gunned down by joel in the first game. This is where i believe people have issues. They WANT to hate Abby, hell she was created to be hated. Designed by the narrater to be evil, bur she was really the same as ellie. Driven by hatred of the person who killed her father. It is a very uncomfortable feeling to absolutly hate someone so much that you want them dead... just to learn that they are driven by the same motive as the person you are supposed to love. The game goes further by given ellie her peace, family, and home. Just for the story to take it away and send you off after Abby once more. And after a rough fight with Abby and neither side claiming the others life. Ellie returns broken, to an empty home, the one she loved leaving her, and now missing fingers taking her ability to play her guitar, her last connection with joel taken away. This game is an amazing game driven by gritty and dark vengence. Speaking volumes about the costs of pursuing revenge, and about peoples ability to see the others side. This game speaks about current events unfolding throughout the U.S. and how us as a people cannot see each others stories. It is uncomfortable and difficult, but is written beautifully to express those views. I would give it a 10/10 in a heartbeat.

I also emplore you to review it for what it is. If you dont like the gameplay, or mechanics, graphics or sounds, rate it as you will. But if you are giving it poor reviews because of story, i ask that you look at yourself before you rate it and ask; is it that the story is bad, or that you do not like what it makes you see in yourself.

    Thank you for reading

I personally couldn’t care less about any new character introduced. It just didn’t land well for me. The parts where you play as Ellie? 10/10. But then there’s this overlong “please love this character” section that just wasn’t good. From Owen, to Mel, to Lev, to Manny. There was this sad desperation in the writing to try to make the player want to sympathize with Abby, they even tried to copy the giraffe scene from the first. Not once...but twice! First with a zebra, Abby and her father have a moment, then with a seal, Abby and Owen have a moment. It’s more arrogance than ambitious for a writer to think they can force or experiment with a players emotions to try to get sympathy for Abbys actions. They even try to make you care about killing Alice. It was a decision that fell flat with me, when all of abbys friends died, I was more indifferent than sad. The character of Ishmael in the original, mind you he’s never physically in the game, I cared about more than anyone associated with Abby. Expand

I mostly enjoyed the first half of the game playing as Ellie. I mostly hated the second half playing as Abby. The game play mechanics and graphics are improved, but the story isn't enjoyable, and they kill off characters you loved from the first game and replace them with less likable characters. Overall a mixed bag for me.

First I'd like to preface that I really don't understand the hate this game is getting, I honestly think that if Joel were the main character and NOTHING else about the game were changed then people would be giving this game the credit it deserves.

This is one of the best tellings of a revenge plot I've ever experienced, truly a breath of fresh air for a type of story that often only ends up being a cliched justification for brutal power fantasy without having to feel any guilt. The story reminds me in some ways of Spec Ops: The Line (an underrated gem btw) in the sense that it reminds you constantly that even though violence can feel cathartic and justified in the moment it often only leads to worse and worse outcomes, creating a cycle of violence that festers and destroys a person until/unless they're willing to break that cycle by learning to let go.

Ellie's journey begins as what feels like a justified tale of revenge in a morally grey world. Those who have played the first game grew to love Joel, to understand that he, like virtually everyone else in this world, is a product of his environment. A person shaped by loss, tragedy, violence and desperation, someone who had lost all hope years ago but over the course of the story managed to regain it thanks to the genuine human connection and paternal instincts he felt with Ellie, and she him. For the first time in a long time Joel had something to fight for that actually mattered, something righteous in an unrighteous world. Joel's tale, while brutal, feels just, he's protecting a child. As this games story unravels you realise that this story is not just and that Ellie is actually the bad guy.

Abby's revenge, while still wrong as it involves the killing of a human being is justifiable in that Joel killed her father, Ellie's subsequent quest isn't, as it involves the killing of dozens of people uninvolved with Joel's murder as well as the friends of Abby. You may say, fairly so, "but Joel was basically Ellie's dad?" and you'd be right, but context matters. Abby killed Joel because he killed her father, the only man capable of creating a cure. He may have had to kill Ellie to achieve that but Ellie makes it clear that she would've been okay with that. Ellie is the "bad guy" of this story, the closest thing to a villain.

You may say "but at least Abby got her revenge, Ellie didn't", this is true but it came at the cost of everyone she cared about. It came at the cost of Nora, Manny, Owen, Alice, Mel and Mel's unborn child. Then they both got a second chance, Abby with Lev and Ellie with Dina and JJ. Abby chose to let go, to not pursue Ellie even though she now had just as much reason for revenge against her as she did with Joel, but the events of Seattle brought her to the understanding that violence only begets violence, that, to quote Arthur Morgan "Vengeance is a fools game", so she moves on. Ellie does not. This is why at the end of the game she is seemingly left with nothing, even unable to play the guitar, one of the few things that gave her a connection to Joel because she lost two of her fingers in the final confrontation with Abby, something that would've never happened if she took the chance to move on as Abby did. She did this to herself.

Last but not least, how's the gameplay? If you played the first one you'll already feel right at home here. But just because the mechanics haven't changed enough to be unrecognisable that doesn't mean they haven't evolved in meaningful ways. The addition of being able to prone, hand-made silencers, canine enemies that can track your scent and honestly pretty clever AI make for an amazing synthesis of survival horror and stealth unlike anything I've played before. Seriously if you're a fan of stealth games and are still trying to find something to satisfy your craving, thanks to the stealth game drought since the end of MGS and Splinter Cell, then I couldn't recommend this game enough, you won't regret it.

My only real criticism of the game is that the prologue is a really slow burn, and this is the kind of game that lends itself to multiple playthroughs with a new game plus mode, so that can be a bit of a slog. It'd be nice for Naughty Dog to add in a feature in the future to skip to Seattle at the beginning of a new game plus playthrough.

I'm a bit confused about all the complaints over the game being supposedly political simply for including literally three LGBT characters. Hate to break it to you but LGBT people have always existed, proof goes as far back as antiquity, so there is no reason to believe they wouldn't exist in a post-apocalyptic world either.its only political if you force it to be political.

Overall fantastic game, well worth the price of admission. I'd recommend it to anyone that loves games with a heavy focus on story, as well as to anyone that is particularly a fan of survival horror or stealth games.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
