Two aspects of this game are worth noting:
1- Technical: It is obvious that the developers did a lot of work under the hood to create incredible visuals, audio and controls. I can't find fault with the technical aspect of this game.

I've never seen such a blatant middle finger given to customers, and i've seen a few. To those dismissing this as "oh no, another homophobe because of the relationship", wrong. Gay male here.

The anti-male agenda is also very strong in this sequel. Guess what, I like men. They should not be just inneffectual cannon fodder.

Overall, this is a huge waste of money even if you are a die hard.

$60 wasted on a game that was expected to be the best game ever. The magic and charisma that the first game had it is now gone in this game, it is a shame to admit that not all games are just as good as its graphics. Unfortunately, TLOU: II is one of those games, looks really good in the outside but in the inside it is all rotten.

As much as I love Joel, his death was justified. he selfishly ended any hope of saving humanity and killed countless people’s family to do it. The stuff about Abby being trans wasn’t true. And by the end I got it. Everyone knows the game isn’t trash if they Really, actually played it. But I get the bombing, and I hope ND gets the message. The story was a little choppy and forced but the gameplay was very solid and fluid. It’s the most beautiful game form this generation when it comes to graphics. Just because people don’t agree with the story doesn’t mean this game deserves a zero, the story is just a fraction of a game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For a game that's longer than half a decade in anticipation, it tries to shoot a lot of shots the previous game didn't and fails at all of them. That said, there is a handful of great moments but they are few and far in between, certainly not enough to justify a big 60$ game from a big AAA dev. In fact, a lot of these moments are almost exclusively the flashback sequences, which try to break apart the development of Joel's and Ellie's relationship and it's consequent collapse following the end of the first game and the events leading up to this one. The first hour seems quite promising, but the second and third hours of gameplay break that quality apart faster than Outbreak Day did Last of Us America.

A story driven game uses the concept of amazing storytelling to make up what it doesn't have or otherwise lacks in gameplay. The thing is; they forgot to make the storytelling actually good.

It is clear Naughty Dog tried to make the underlying theme about how revenge doesn't pay off, but almost nothing about the way the characters act makes you want to do nothing else but drive a bullet into their heads one at a time.

The devs have made the characters jump to illogical choices on a dime, often for what seems no other reason than to work into the game for the sake of convenience in telling the story.

Joel in the first game was made up to be the type of guy who'd quite literally die before trusting himself to a complete stranger, and within the first two hours of the game not only does he trust himself to a stranger, but he trusts an entire group of strangers with both his and his brothers name, not even 2 minutes into being in the same room as them.

Other illogical choices include a handful of rather shallow pieces of romance dialogue that spontaneously spawn make out scenes which sometimes evolve into full blown sex. I'm aware that the game is rated M for mature, but dear God do they not happen at the most awkward times, featuring the most awkward random dialogue and at moments so convenient the developers might as well have written them off as some sort of low effort fanfiction. They feel way out of place; it'd be on par with God of War 4 starting off on a sex scene that depicts Kratos making Atreus because he becomes high on weed and refers to Atreus' mother as "cute". That's literally the kind of "romance" that happens in this game.

But the most illogical choice of them all comes from the devs themselves: Ellie embarks on a crusade lasting multiple weeks, going through the entire combined militia force of the very same group that not only tortured and killed Joel in front of her own eyes, but openly mocked his death in front of her once she goes on to pursue them all for the injustice done on Joel. She is ready to kill, torture and push through an insanely well manned and well armed force to get to Joel's murderer, and what does she decide to do? Spare his killer at the very end. In fact, Abby kills a lot more people close to Ellie than just Joel. Still, she let's her live.

Granted Ellie butchers her way through everyone Abby (Joel's killer... no, Joel's *murderer*) knows, but whereas Abby seeks a personal vendetta against Joel and Joel alone, her friends do not shy away from showing murderous intent upon Ellie, and in extent her whole group against absolutely anyone outside it. Abby's group, the WLF, are extremely isolationist and would shoot anyone on sight, whether or not they're surrendering and whether or not they mean no harm at all.

The game is split into levels where you play as Ellie and parts where you play as Abby, but where Ellie's levels involve going from one place to another in search of Abby to enact revenge upon, the entirety of Abby's levels focus on the victimization of herself and all her friends for the actions that Joel did in the past and those that Ellie does, as if they're both some sort of monsters who have killed with no regard for the value of life.

Yeah, obviously making a group of people who kill on sight appear more human doesn't work well.

The Abby levels are suppose to make you feel more bad for them, but in reality no amount of backstory and no amount of sob stories is going to make you /not/ want to kill them. That would make the hunt for Abby that Ellie spends months on worthless right? They're cold blooded killers and nothing can put them in a positive light.

Well Ellie disagrees. As I've stated before, Ellie pretty much let's Abby go because killing is bad, and you shouldn't kill, not even if that person quite literally killed your friends, your loved ones and the closest thing you've had to a father figure right? Going back to the God of War comparison again, imagine if after climbing to the top of Mount Olympus and killing everyone, Kratos just came to Zeus and said "Okay let's be friends now". That is exactly what happens in this game.

The game has nothing going for it but graphics.

It's so easy to see the parallels between Joel, Abby, and Ellie and how each are their own hero. Only when the characters seek beyond revenge do they gain something, more meaning in their own lives. Abby is a more obvious example of this as she learns to empathise with the enemy faction, it requires you to empathise with your own enemy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Hello all,
Last of us is a unique game and without equivalent today.
Last of Us can speak to the hearts of the men and women who play it.
Last of us is a game that questions you and exposes you
Will I make the same choice as Elijah?
Will I go so far in violence and hatred for revenge?
Can we just accept everything because this world is cruel and merciless to anyone?

I do not have the answer to these questions but in any case I asked myself. And that is, for me, the real success of this game: Transcending the video game to directly reach the emotions of the player.

Let's talk technical: The game is the most beautiful of its generation currently.
And more particularly the animations. They are impressive in truth and intensity. I invite you to bring your attention to the faces and hands of the characters, The detail provided is stunning, you can feel each emotion of the characters in the expression of their gaze.

The expression of Elijah when she kills an enemy or gives a blow, when she looks in the mirror, when she speaks with other characters, all these details allow to fully appreciate the care and work performed on this game.

The sound environment is a central element of the game as was that of the 1 ... It is sometimes discreet and sober, we simply hear the wind and nothing else and sometimes it plays the role of heartbeat of the game. play with our nerves.

The gameplay is mastered, it is version 2.0 of the gameplay of last of us 1 and does the job completely. Let's talk about the angry subject: The scenario.

For me the scenario is good because the message is coherent and it brings a real questioning, it takes us out of our comfort zone and it tries to disturb the player in his certainties.

To fully understand the script, you have to understand the double narration put in place by Neil Druckmann.
We talk about hatred, revenge in a cruel and merciless world, where anyone can lose their life at the bend of an alley and without any form of greatness, just cold and brutal death.

And we (the player), we must accompany a character in the worst side of humanity because in the end, who is good or bad in this type of world?
The concern of the scenario is the rhythm which is given to it.

The second act is, in my opinion, "heavy" because the element of surprise has disappeared.
Nevertheless, it allows you to discover a character that you want to appreciate despite the atrocities of which she is capable.

And the genius of this game is there, the paradox of characters full of hatred and cruelty for those who set out on their way but who are ready to give their lives to protect their friends, their families.

And the game pushes us to enter the minds of these characters, even if it means getting lost.

For the various concerns related to the rhythm and the backups (oh if this automatic backup is replayed !!), I put the note of 9/10. This is my reason note.

For all the emotion that this game gave me and all the pleasure I had to find Elie, Joël and new faces, I put a note from the heart: 20/20.

Now, I would like to raise a problem: the review bombing.

Last of us Part 2 unfairly suffered a negative review bombing on metacritic

We have the right to hate a game, we have the right to resent it because it has disappointed us but we cannot harm a game for the wrong reasons… and it's the wrong reasons everyone knows them: Trolls without much human value have expressed their hatred against LGBT communities.

As a reminder, the game contains kissing scenes between Elie and Dina and in the world of last of us you can see flags and lgbt tags.

All this "LGBT" content combined, this represents 5 min… 5 MIN OVER 30 HOURS OF GAME !!

I'm tired of seeing our society governed by trolls, homophobes, racists ... They are invading video games.

As a passionate player, I cannot tolerate that we dirty the work of a studio, that we destroy the message of a work and that we obscure the theme of a game just because of mediocrity… I make you a solemn request: Play Last of Us Part 2 while being invested and let yourself be transported / MAKE YOUR OWN OPINION! Don't listen to these review bombing idiots Do not watch the streams of this game, it deserves to be experienced and not just seen! Do not listen to specialized sites that all put 20/20! Don't listen to me !! Listen to your playful soul and experience Elie, Joël and Abby and tell us REALLY what you felt. Here and on metacritic and wherever you can, don't let mediocrity decide for you.

I'm a major fan of the first Last of Us game and Factions, and I went into this game with an open mind. I completed the game on Hard mode recently, and I thought about it for a couple of days.

The parts of the game where it truly shines are gameplay, graphics, music, and voice acting. While the story was engaging, there is some room for improvement.

I found the gameplay to be fun and tense with very limited resources, and more thrilling as the game progressed. The dodge mechanic is one of the best additions to movement. Infected are much more aggressive and dangerous, and the human enemies are much smarter at spotting and flanking you (at least on the harder difficulties). Stealth feels very rewarding as a result. Exploration feels more organic as the environments are much larger than the first game. A standalone Factions mode using these gameplay mechanics has a lot of potential, as I rarely grew bored of it.

Graphics are phenomenal. This is hands-down one of the best looking games on PS4. It's sometimes hard to look at some of the kills in this game because the brutality is on full display with these graphics.

The music is mainly used in the background to build tension, and it perfectly matches the dark tone of the game.

Voice acting is top-notch as to be expected with every Naughty Dog game.

While I thought the story was good in world building and asking difficult questions when it comes to the themes of vengeance, the game could have been better crafted with regard to the pacing. I found it difficult to feel the type of emotion the first game was able to pull from me due to the weird structure or order of the story (you'll know what I mean if you've played it). At one point, I felt that I had to force myself to finish the game early just to see how earlier scenes play out. This was a little frustrating.

Another aspect that will turn some players (not all players) off is the SJW politics present in the game. While the story does pass over these moments quickly and they do not really draw away from the character development, it sometimes take me out of the moment (mainly some cringe a little in the early game).

Overall, the game has fun gameplay with a story that, while does not live up to the story of the first game, is above average and worth playing for yourself.

For fear of spoiling it for others, I will not go into detail about the story of TLOU2 here, but I will say that it is well worth playing!

The gameplay is much improved and more dynamic and less same-y than the first. There are some over-done mechanics in the game however (falling through the floor again?!), but it isn’t enough to warrant much detraction.

The graphics & sound are both breathtaking and unnerving at the same time, complementing the tone of the game perfectly.

The narrative direction & pacing taken in the game revealed bit-by-bit how the main characters came to be how they were. The way the story was delivered kept me wondering (I had thankfully avoided spoilers), it broke my heart, inspired anger, hatred, rage, but also provided me with moments that inspired love and joy as well. The careful, deliberate and intricate inter-weaving of narrative threads coming together in TLOU2 enables the player to see from multiple perspectives, encourages empathy, and gives a deeper insight into complex characters and the deep emotions that has driven their (sometimes questionable) choices. Like the overall tone of the game, you are often faced with discomfort from the actions of the characters –at the end of the day, however, they are human, not perfect.

I would have liked to have a bit more choice at pivotal moments in the game (particularly towards the end), as I think it would have had a greater impact to have to think through the consequences of my own actions. Then again, I am not certain that the outcome would be as powerful as it was. Just like the original, this is not a “feel good” game, but a thoughtful one with a compelling story to tell.

If you want feel bad after playing a game, which points all time out how evil the world is AND especially you are. Play it.

I felt very cheated after playing.
    Elli kills dogs, Elli bad
    Abby saves animals, abby good!
    and so on.

After a while i came to the point that it isn't as good as all 10/10 are saying.
Just because production value is high doesn't make it great.
The story is the key here and its not good, in best case mediocre, long and just shocking for the sake of it.

Graphics are cool and gameplay is okay (nothing major new), sound is amazing.
But story makes it all glue together. Sadly for me it was not believable and meh....

Yes, the game's a masterpiece and the story is out of this world, but I almost wish I didn't play it. The whole game (and the whole plot of the story?) starts out with you trying to get revenge on Abby for what she's taken from you (Joel, Jesse, Tommy) but you let her f***ing get away with it all because ELLIES WANTS TO FORGIVE???
She was trying to forgive Joel for what he did back at the hospital with the Fireflies, and now she ends up trying to forgive Abby for taking her best friend and more...
To me it's fair that Abby wanted revenge, AND SHE F***ING GOT IT SO WHY DON'T ELLIE GET IT - god damn I hate this story.
Unlike part 1, I don't think I will ever replay part 2. It's just not worth it, there's no point

The game itself is beautifully made: every location and encounter is well-crafted and immersive and the score really deepens the experiences. All the characters feel fleshed out and realized and I found myself more attached to them than I care to admit. I think just for the game itself, disregarding the story, it would be unreasonable to give it less than an 8/10.

As for the story, I know that it has been controversial, but I think it was incredible. They really get you to feel and empathize with every character as well as question many of the choices you've made throughout the game. There's one part where you are trying so hard to kill an unknown attacker and the whole fight is dragged out and difficult, but when you finally realize who the attacker is you feel conflicted about wanting to kill them. The story is hard-hitting, and for me, I think it was incredibly well constructed. I loved every minute of my time in this game.

Overall, I'd say this was the best game I've ever played on the PS4. I think it deserves a 10/10. I only wish I could play it again for the first time.

Bottom line, the story is garbage. Deceptive marketing aside. Creator could not refrain from injecting his ideology at the expense of a decent story. However, the essential message was good. Yet, It was horribly delivered. Save your money for an enjoyable game.

Expect a moving story, skillfully told, and be ready to act in times where you'll just wish you had a chance to make different choices. A truly masterpiece. Thank you Naughty Dog.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Como secuela de the last of us me parece muy muy mala.

First half is probably a good, solid 8 with some plot holes.
Second half is a 3 with some excellent visuals and cinematics, including more plot holes. You just keep keep asking yourself why this is even here. Nowhere near the first, but worth picking up once it drops pretty cheap. I also adored the first one, which is one of my all time favourite games.

Really i expected more, and how they told the history is a spaguetti mess. The technical quality , playability and the IA are amazing; so many chapters make me so tense and my heart almost stop..this is a wonderful work (art) but i think the history could be tell us with an another perspective. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I just finished the game. While I thought the frost one was one of the best game ever made. I been playing video games more than 40 years and I have played many sequels. I seen ups and downs over the years, saying that, I have never looked forward to a game more than this game, I put up with all of the delays, I bought the special edition and eagerly waited to play, I have spent over 25 hours over the last 5 days playing it. I have never been so disappointed. The first half of the game was really great, but when I was forced to play as Abby, I felt sick to my stomach. If I would have know I was going to be forced to play a character that I hated, I would not have bought the game day one, would have waited until the price dropped. The only enjoyment I got was finding repeatedly why to kill her, my favorite was, having her jump of the skyscraper bridge. I hate her so much and to play it just to finish the game is so wrong. I am not even going back to play it again to get the platinum trophy. So if love the first one, just wait the the greatest hits version come out. Btw I am not a bot. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Naughty Dog handled this game in such a poor manner it's depressing. Misleading the public any way they can in order to trick people into playing a game they think they're going to get when instead the directors wanted to kill people's hope for a game building up over the past 7 years all to be edgy and tell a somehow unfinished revenge story that becomes far too convoluted and whimsical with it's potholes and clearly forced narratives. That sentence was too long, much like this game. The message that was supposed to be conveyed here is fairly easy to grasp. It's all about perspective and how someone is going to be a bad guy in another story; but it never actually comes full circle and the choices these beloved characters made don't flesh them out or further this message, they just go against reason to try and prove it. The character of... Abbie? Abby? I don't even care about her. Anyways, you can't just have a character kill off what has been building up for years and expect many players to go into the experience with a smile and an open mind. I'm sure everyone was happy to see Abby shot by Ellie when you fail the stealth sequence in the theater, I know I sure was. Just watch some youtube videos on how this game just completely dissolves in it's own bile. Also people don't dislike this game because it has two lesbians in it they dislike it because the characters suck (Besides Jesse, bless that man) and people feel manipulated @game critics who can't understand people have different opinions from them and AREN'T racist/bigoted. Thanks for nothing, upper management at Naughty Dog/game directors, just make another Jak and Daxter or something. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Tbh you could right a whole godamn analysis essay on this game because of how many little details and parts you need to do more then just understand on the surface. This game is so worth the money and was the first ever game I preordered. So many bad reviews you see on the internet all come from dumb people who saw the leaks and rated the game based on it. I want to address the things that people picked out to hate on. 1.Joels death:
People were mad that their beloved character from the first game was brutally murdered and said that he should have died a “heroes death”. One thing we need to remember is that JOEL was NEVER A HEROE, he murdered all the good people, the actual “heroes” who were trying to make a cure!!! And story wise it just wouldn’t have been as compelling if it had been another character that made ellie set out on her quest for revenge. If you pay attention to what Joel says before Abby beats him, you know that he knew this day was bound to come after all the bad things he’s done. 2. Feminism being “shoved down people’s throats”: I really don’t know what to say to people who had this opinion. Of course everyone’s allowed to have their own opinion but WTF people. I’ve been around the internet reading reviews and watching them. What I’ve found that people who complained about this were all straight white males. Here is me summarizing the comments people have made:
    A. Why do you need a lesbian. Why are they shoving this down our throats B. Same as above for trans people
    C. omg CAN I JSUT POINT OUT ALL THE MALE CHARCATERS DIE , someone needs to point it out!!!!!!

Here’s what I have to say:
These people do exist in our society, so they’re not shoving anything down your throats. This is called representing minorities. This IS NOT A POLITICAL AGENDA. Apparently MAKING S FEMALE CHARCATER WHO are BUILT MUSCULARLY IS ALSO MAKING A POLITICAL STATEMENT. The game even explains WHY SHE TRAINED HERSELF TO BE THE WAY SHE IS. BUT NO ONE PAYED ATTENTION BECAUSE THEY WERE TOO BUSY HATING ON HER. In conclusion, because this game doesn’t follow the conventional video game characters aka white men bashing **** it gets hate. And it’s just disgusting that people would go so far as to send death threats to Neil druckman because they didn’t get what they wanted. That’s just **** childish. I had to get that little rant out of the way but now I will talk about what I loved about the game. 1.Graphics and gameplay
I found myself constantly amazed with the graphics and the gameplay. I would even make my family members watch me play for 5 seconds so they could see how realistic everything looked. You can tel so much hard work was put into making everything. The scenery was fantastic and the gameplay was definitely an upgrade from the first game. They worked similarly but small things like being able to go prone, hide in grass and even perform and jump kill made the experience so much more enjoyable because it pushed the stealth element even more!! God my favorite thing is Playing the game again because the better and more familiar you get with the game the more fun it is creeping around and killing your enemies quietly. That was a 10/10 for me. 2.Story
I didn’t give this game a 10/10 because of the story. However this was not because you had to play as Abby. Ithought that playing as Abby added so much more to the game. I remember hating her so much when I first started playing as her , I even considered not playing. But the more you played as her, the more you find the parallels between her and Ellie. At the end When ellie set out to kill Abby the second time, I found myself saying that I didn’t want her to die. We were put in her shoes and we realized what motivated her, what made her happy and what made her sad. So I grew to love her as a person, her character growth was something that made me feel warm, especially when she said that Lev was her person. However, the game was a little dragged on mainly because of the closer look we had of the conflict between the WLF and the seraphites. I found that it didn’t really enhance the story or the main characters much. The whole part where lev returned to find his mom felt unnecessary and while fun to play, really distracted me from the main story. That said the game also strayed a little from survival horror and became a lot liek an action adventure. I remembered saying to myself out loud a lot “is this UNCHARTED??!” So for me the story was like a 8/10

Overall, I really loved the game even though some parts were hard to sit through. I really don’t think you should judge this game before playing it yourself. This game really takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions and when you finish the game you might just like me feel a completely different feeling from when you began. Give it a shot and I promise you won’t regret it.

The game is quite fun to play, the animations, graphics, sound design are top notch, with me being personally fond of ellie in this game and filling in some the blanks of what happened after the first game. But when characters that seem important to the story turn out to just be set pieces it isn't very satisfying and playing as the second main character seems more annoying to me than anything in the game

SPOILER REVIEW: the beginning of the game seems nice at a moments glance but as it continues it picks up to much pace with Joel's death seeming very rushed and forced for the plot, when he died i was more disappointed than sad. The rest of the game with dina and ellie is fun i like the chemistry between them and how it feels more real than some games which is a welcome addition. Then comes the part in which you play as Abby, Joel's murderer. Abby is unlikable from the get go as should be of no suprise since she killed a beloved main character from the first game, her only redeeming quality being the friendship formed with lev who is much more likable than abby. The ending seemed like a slap in the face, with ellie about to kill abby and then says 'nah nevermind' and they all go home. With ellie being left completely alone like she said she was afraid of happening in the first game and with abby having a happier ending than ellie, with abby being able to start over with lev as a person, but ellie is just left depressed and alone. Overall the game is great for its presentation but is not so great for it's substance in storytelling being more disappointing of a game than anything. Again, this is my opinion.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off, I'd like to say that if anyone from the art/animation/music/gameplay departments happens to see this, you guys did an amazing job and I'm sorry your talents had to be wasted on a game with such **** storytelling.

I tried to like this game...I really, truly did. The first one was in my top 10 favorite games ever, so when the leaks for this came out I avoided them like the plague so I could judge the game myself on release. What an utter mistake that was. To be fair, the entire game isn't bad, just the vast majority of it, but the good parts give you a sense of what it could have been, and that makes it hurt twice as bad. I really enjoyed the game for the first hour or so, but then it all went to absolute **** from that scene (you know the one) onwards. I actually had to stop and take a day long break after I reached it. I know some people are dubbing the game as "Angry Lesbian Seeks Revenge", but I don't care that the game is focused around Ellie or that she **** girls. All that was in the first game anyway.

    *SPOILERS FROM HERE ON*

What's really pissing me off is that not only does Joel - a character the fans know and love - die (Which I could almost forgive), but he dies in what feels like the first tenth of the **** game, in the most undignified way possible, and to some random chick we've never met or heard of before, who's life Joel had JUST saved like 30 seconds beforehand, and who is impossibly jacked for no goddamn reason considering we're in a post-apocalyptic world where food shortages and rationing are commonplace. Seriously, even in modern day with unlimited funds, a woman would need to maintain some crazy daily calorie intake for a physique like that, with a large majority being protein. And then as if that wasn't enough, to add insult to injury, they actually have the audacity to make you play as her afterwards as the protagonist of her own 10 hr+ side story! Not only that, but she's the least likeable protagonist ever, and the entire time i just wanted to go back to see what was going on with Ellie. Letting her die repeatedly in her segments was the most fun I had with this game.

The only reason even I retained interest in the game long enough to finish it completely was because I couldn't wait to see Ellie slaughter ever last person who was in that room at the beginning, especially Abby, but ND couldn't even do that right! I nearly threw my PS4 out the window when Ellie spared her as if she didn't just spend the entirety of the game offing generic goons with no issues. I get that ND is trying to shove the "rEVenGe BaD" message down our throats, but it just comes off as hollow and disingenuine because Abby is able to get her revenge and walk away scott free, but Ellie loses everything and doesn't get **** to show for it. Anyway, I'm done. I just needed to get that out.

Like I said, there are good things about this game of course, as with every game, but when the credits rolled I let out a big disappointed sigh and uninstalled it. if you enjoyed it, good for you, I'm glad. Most people who dislike it seem to want others to hate it just as much, but the fact is I really wanted to like it, and really tried to, but just can't bring myself to.

The Last of Us 2 is an amazing game. It is gorgeous with deep story telling that hits on some very intense issues. This game is a continuation of the story from the first game. It is brutal and to be honest, to dark and violent at times, but it is layered with memorable characters even to the point of Naughty Dog putting players in the "shoes" of what would be considered the antagonist. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Everyone is upset about Joel, but the real tragedy here is what they've done to their female characters, and that The Last of Us 2, is decidedly unfeminist.

Before I continue, I'd like to note that I've never left a review for a game, and never used Metacritic - but this game offended me so much, that I decided to make an account and add my voice to the conversation.

As a female gamer, it always excited me to see great and well written female characters. Of-course I always appreciate fantastic male characters and really loved Joel and Ellie in the 1st game. Ellie was such a realistic and engaging female character because she was so smart, funny, resourceful, and while she had her struggles, she always tried to be a good person. In the sequel, all of that is gone. She is mean, depressive, monotone and selfish. I understand the developers, wanted her to be “dark” and “ a strong women” but all they’ve done is suck the life out of an amazing character. Why is it, that to be “a strong women”, it means to cave people's skulls in? What about other strong traits besides just physical strength like kindness, leadership, forgiveness, intelligence? Ellie is a bad person, constantly putting her pregnant girlfriends/friend's life at risk for her own selfish causes - it’s very unfortunate to see. It’s really unfortunate to see “strong women” constantly be angry, mean and selfish, and not allowing them to be smart, fun, kind or wise-cracky, like male protagonists often get to be (like Nathan Drake from Uncharted). That’s what made Ellie in the first game, such a breath of fresh air! But the depiction of the female characters here is very stereotypical of a “strong women”. The same is done to Abby. Abby is also a “strong female character” but doesn’t have any real strength, agency, or control over her life. It’s very unfortunate to see another female character thrown into a tired “love triangle” with this self-centered loser character, Owen, and be pitted against his other on-off again girlfriend Mel. Why can’t Mel and Abby be friends? All of Abby’s flashbacks are about Owen, and Owen pressuring her to do things she first says no to or is obviously uncomfortable following along with. Owen is often mean to Abby, which reeks of the sexist “men are mean to you because they like you” trope. There is also a disturbing “sex scene” where Abby and Owen start fighting then it turns to “angry sex”. You spend much of Abby’s time worrying about Owen, who doesn’t seem to care much for Abby no matter how much she tries to please him. Abby and Owen’s “romance” is dated, sexist, boring, and tired and I'm shocked how much game time was dedicated to this.

When the player assumes the role of both of these women, they are given no real choices. Due to the fact that Ellie was not given a choice whether to sacrifice herself in the first game, I thought that regarding gameplay, this game would introduce Ellie with some choices to make. But no, through the entire game, you never get to make any choices.

I would have liked to see more of Nora and Yara as I thought both were much better written female characters, for the little game time they got.

For a studio that claimed to put out a feminist product, I’m very disappointed that it appears we are taking steps backwards.

One of the best games of all time, a very heavy but fantastic argument, some may not be able to take it.
Despite everything that happens to her, Ellie is powerful and fearless.

An amazing emotional experience. Complex storyline, awesome characters and thrilling gameplay. A very mature game, that questions your perception of morality and justice. An experience unlike any other.

The gameplay is vastly improved upon since the first game. The animations are incredible. The story, whilst polarizing, is very intentional and takes the player on a journey through so many destinations, troubles, characters, and emotions. This game is great, and I highly recommend it.

This game was not enjoyable due to the unsatisfying story. Characters act in unusual ways that cannot be explained. The gameplay has incrementally improved compared to part 1. The presentation is excellent (graphics, animation, sounds). This game would receive a higher score if it were not a sequel to a 10/10 masterpiece.

I have never played a video game that challenged the player like this game does. Not in terms of beating bosses or surviving enemies, but in that you actually have to evolve as a person and empathize with different perspectives. An absolutely fantastic way to spend 24 hours of gameplay. My sister was captivated start to finish watching me play. This game has only one flaw, and that's that one sex scene. Otherwise? It's the very best narrative game ever created.

I think the hate this game gets alone proves the point that Naughty Dog knows how to toy with our emotions. I honestly don’t understand people giving this anything below 7 or what standard they hold for their games, and I will try to tell (without spoiling) why I think this is a masterpiece and a 10/10.

I think the hate this game gets alone proves the point that Naughty Dog knows how to toy with our emotions. I honestly don’t understand people giving this anything below 7 or what standard they hold for their games, and I will try to tell (without spoiling) why I think this is a masterpiece and a 10/10.

TLOU2 is a deserving sequel to one of the best games ever (in my opinion). The story follows the consequences of the first game in a very natural sense thats true to the world. The vicious nature is emphasized as we see that years of terrible actions actually have consequence. When we meet Joel and Ellie, they have settled for a peaceful life in Jackson and been living in this community for 4 years. They have both softened up, and abondened the murderous and evil ways from the first game which has dulled their senses and sets up the story of this game.

The gameplay is an absolute masterpiece if you love toying with AI, stealth-gameplay or appreciate light survival horror. The enemy design is varied and their tactics are diverse. The ways enemies hunt you down and talk to each other, makes you think quickly and improvise like no game I have played before. This is the good old days where a headshot actually is a headshot and your guns don’t need the right RPG-stats to finish the kill. Weapons and crafting works pretty much the same as the prior game, but everything packs a heftier punch than it used to. My jaw dropped the first time I saw what a well-placed trapmine could achieve in gore-terms alone.

The story isn’t an sprawling-across-the-country-adventure like the first, but I always felt like TLOU2 needed to do something different to engage, and that ND had to reinvent what made the first game click. After a hefty prologue, you set out to make your enemies pay, and after this the story has you in the palm of it’s hand. I will say that I also felt like the first half of the game has some severe pacing-issues, but with the exceptional story that follows and with the incredible replay-value the game has, this doesn’t feel like a problem by the time the credits roll. The story is packed with exceptional cutscenes that are of the haunting, heartwarming or cry your heart out-kind. They are incredibly acted and voiced, the animation is better than anything I’ve ever seen (at least in a game) and the score is more diverse this time provoking new emotions that you did not feel in the last game. Symbolism are both of the on the nose-kind, but I felt that there are even more of the subtle kind telling even more stories for those who are interested in really diving into this. Every scene feels mirrored at some point, and especially if you decide to play the game again, you will pick up on so much storytelling that flew you by the first time. I’ve seen alot of people complain about the game, but I feel like if you hate the ending, you are missing the point - and no it is not «revenge is bad», though this of course also is a theme of the game.

I think the game teaches alot about empathy and even more about the desperation of finding your place and your meaning in a meaningless world. For some it seems like it doesn’t work at all, but for me the ending hit like a ton of bricks.

I have seen alot about the diverse cast being some kind of «political agenda», but I don’t feel this. I just think they wanted diversity in characters, and in a fictional world this works with me and I think it’s cool to see those who seldom are represented in main-stream media be jampacked in this game.

It is annoying that I care so much about what other fans feel, but I am really frustrated by the backlash of this game. I think many will enjoy it if they manage to look past the massive hate from the community and other gamers before they are done. Since the story touches oh so much on what hate does to humans, I think many fans reactions is quite ironic, but thats just the way it is I guess.

All in all I think TLOU2 delivers a top quality game with a fantastic story, fun and intense gameplay and alot more replay value than the first one. It made me feel feelings I’ve never felt in a game and made me go into situations I were very uncomfortable with. As I stated, I feel like the first half is a bit long, but by the time you reach the end, it doesn’t matter to me because of the rest of the game.

If I managed to get ONE SINGLE person to play this, I am happy. I really love this game and think it is a masterpiece. Looking forward to talk about it in years to come :)

PS - I don’t think anyone who hates the game are transphobic or «doesn’t understand» or anything, but I would like to understand why it is so important to all of them to actively spread so much hate on the internet and come with threats of violence. That seems really unnecessary. Let’s discuss! Love every opinion as long as they are non-threatening :)

Expand

Then main issue is trailers showed JOEL ALIVE! but he gets killed two hours into my game play. Thus far whole store was annoying but I thought hey maybe it gets better. Let me slug thru it. No... It was horrible. Like I am done with this series. Traded the game in and laughed at large stack in game store of trade ins of this game alone.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
