When I started the game I hated Abby and love Ellie, thought everything was black and white, turns out, there is also gray. The ending is really hard to understand to find great, I found it amazing and fair for both Abby and Ellie,

The game has 10/10 graphics and almost close to that in gameplay and environment. But the story is appalling, their execution and pacing is just straight-up bad.
The choices they made in what happened and when it happened, is just something that deserves a 0/10. But the gameplay and the rest is good, but the game is not worth playing in my opinion.

This game still feels fun to play but the same can be said for games over a decade old so I don’t think that’s a big achievement. Various bugs that ruin the immersion which is basically the only thing this game has got going for it really. The graphics are good, it’s not super advanced graphics from older games on the system but more of a super polish and detail that makes the graphics stand out so much and give great immersions to it. The world is still super linear which is a bummer and a huge miss on ND’s part. The setup was there to search these outposts for information in an any order in an open world type of way which would have boosted the immersion of the this games world and just world exploration in general but instead the game keeps to being linear for story reason I guess? The story is pointless at best and a hot mess at worst. A personal revenge story is that last thing a fan would want for this game especially the way from the way it’s gone about the way it did. I believe what fans wanted to see the most was how the arguable bad decision Joel made at the end of the first game impacted the world in a plot that took a grander scale than what was shown in the game fans got and how the characters would try to fix this dangerous bloodthirsty world without a cure. As for the story we got I won’t go to into my points too in depth but on a rundown I can say most of the side characters were boring and had too much screen time, the main characters were out of character or were just also too boring to get attached to. The small talk when roaming is stupid. It’s like it’s trying to be uncharted but in that game it makes sense or even in the first TLOU it makes due to the way the characters aren’t absolutely at some of their worst times in their life it made sense for them for through out some casual words here and there. This game tries to be all brooding but then you get some causal dialogue from those brooding characters and it’s like a complete disconnect form the actual story. At last but not least the pacing and direction is all over the place. This could have easily been fixed if the game was like the first two hours all throughout the whole game where you hop back and forth between characters within reasonable time. Two problems fixed with one solution. I would rate this game lower if I took the marketing into consideration with the model swapping lie, the lighting changes and I think graphical changes(not sure about the graphics), and more realistic gameplay and enemy AI lies but there could have been limitation reasons for the latter two points(but not the deceiving model swapping) so I’ll subside my feelings to that. Over all this game is boring, dragged on, and had much lost potential. 3/10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Video games are really good at delivering catharsis through violence. The first game did that when you were forced to slaughter all those people to save a character you cared about. Bioshock Infinite did something similar when you had to save Elizabeth. Or God of War with Atreus. But for the first time that I've seen, The Last of Us Part II tried to emit a DIFFERENT emotion through violence. You as the player were not in line with the motivations of your characters. Naughty Dog created a disconnect between player and character that heightened a feeling of discomfort when having to commit violent acts. I've never seen that narrative technique done through a video game. As a result, certain violent scenes WERE not cathartic. They felt wrong. Beating up Abby at the end felt wrong. Beating up Ellie as Abby felt wrong. Killing Owen and Mel felt wrong etc... the developers purposefully robbed us of catharsis in order to effectively deliver its thematic message about the futility of revenge, hatred, division etc... it was a NEW usage of the narrative toolset of the medium that I really have to applaud and commend. Yes, the game has problems (i think it bit off more than it could chew, and left certain characters underdeveloped and archetypical) and perhaps the first game was more cohesive and better paced... but the majority of the criticism seems to come from an unfortunate misreading of the plot or a lack of appreciation for darker themes. I'm overall very happy with this sequel. I'd more honestly give it a 9/10 but I think it's necessary to offset some of the troll reviews here. Expand

It's hard to shake the funk this game leaves one in. I feel lost, like I need to constantly talk about my experience. I've spent the last day reading all sorts of opinions on the game in an attempt to still my longing for the world I've had to depart. The ramblings of people who love it, people who hate it.

As much as the debate can be infuriating at times, it lifts my spirits to see a video game dare to be so divisive, to take these kinds of risks. So often AAA games feel safe, almost pandering in their simplicity. Rarely can they match the artistic integrity of cinema and literature. I feel here, as in the first game, we are seeing the envelope being pushed. It's thrilling.

The Last of Us Part II didn't feel perfect all the way through, I'll gladly admit it. I didn't always agree with the pacing or the story choices. It could easily have been shorter. Tighter.

But I was so invested, as if taken by some kind of fever. Sleep became a secondary function, necessary only to gather energy for the next gaming session. The gameplay loop; explore, gather, fight, plot... for me it just clicked. Some of my favourite moments were just gathering alcohol and rags.

A technical marvel in every single department, I am thrilled and delighted to see how far video games have evolved in my lifetime, from DOS to cinematic wonders. The acting and writing of such a calibre that I had a constant lump in my throat. It's the kind of cultural experience that doesn't come around every day. Created with such purpose and intent, one can feel the will of the creator in the finished work.

It's okay to hate it. Art that doesn't divide can hardly be called just that.

I hope you give The Last of Us part II a chance.

The ending was fine after all the anger, depression, and negation ellie goes through, she finally accepts that joel is gone and is able to let abby go. The ending means that ellie went from being a sociopath on a killing spree to a sane healthy person able to forgive. Thats why ay the main menú in NEW game plus the boat is out of the water but into a beach with a rising sun.

The whole game player is in a state of extreme depression and there is no reasonable plot design to release this negative emotion. So I think the studio didn't take into account the mental health of the player during the game. The incomplete sandbox design also seriously interferes with the story's fluency, and the rewards of exploration don't make the trip worthwhile.

Reading a lot of reviews that say "story makes no sense" "disregards everything set up in the first game" and I'm sat here wondering what game they played? Part 1 was all about getting Ellie from A to B and set up that relationship, and had a pretty conclusive ending. Part 2 wasn't just going to be another Joel and Ellie road trip. It had to evolve and evolve it did. You hate Abby? Well that's the point! they needed to do something to take you through these horrendous emotions and they did it really well. In fact i'm happy its so divded as it just proves they did it right, its gritty, realistic, and painful. Some people will love it, some people will say "Wah I dOn'T LiKE New WanT Mor jOEL & eLLIE aDVENTURES."
Joel is in the game a lot, and i got more character development from him in part 2 than the entirety of part 1.
there's always going to be new characters to get used to, and these new characters were received well.... right up until "the incident".
i have to say ignore the 0 reviews, as if they start with "the story doesn't make any sense" then its probably because they never played it and just watched it online.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really enjoyed the first last of us game and was completely let down by this sequel and could barely finish it. The graphics are fine, and the game play is ok (nothing was wildly different from the first one), but the story just really drags this game down and makes it completely not fun to play. Characters go against established traits (Joel giving his real name to strangers... LMAO) and it took a lot to just finish it. (also with no pay off at the end).

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't expecting the game to be all sunshine and rainbows, but to turn this into a simple revenge plot with no revenge payoff in the end just really doesn't sit well with me. Ellie was so angry and revenge-driven, the fact she didn't kill Abby in the end is just f'ing ridiculous. She has no problem killing EVERYONE else without batting an eye, but she stops at the main person who killed the closest person to her... OK game.

It is, however, a very obviously divisive game. There are many who do not appreciate the story being told by Naughty Dog, who would instead prefer a story that is so frequently told by many. Instead, we get something different. A compelling, heart-wrenching story with brilliant character design.

However, the game does have issues with pacing. It is perhaps clear that many complaints voiced could have been resolved if simple changes to the story’s structure were made. Make the flashbacks the start of the game. Introduce Abby and her backstory first, leading up to *that* event. Give the player to experience Ellie and Joel. Then, and only then, do we go further. If such changes were made, many of the “plot hole” concerns or issues with the flow could be resolved.

This is, ultimately, Naughty Dog’s game. Their vision. Their story. It is not ours to dictate. Just because we do not like the way it went, does not make a game bad. It does have issues, but it is, overall, a truly exceptional game.

    Well done, Naughty Dog.

Everything remains rock solid: the tight gameplay, the setting, the tone, the characters we have grown to love over the years. The second chapter in Ellie's story just develops that world even further, adding more depth and complexity to an already very complex world and story.

Say what you want, this is an extremely provocative game, about which no one will be able to remain indifferent to. It never leaves you in your comfort zone, it´s always messing with your feelings, ideas, certainties, truths.

Over 30 hours + I felt an immense range of sensations: anger, sadness, joy at the little things in a collapsing world, frustration, confusion. Until a beautiful, poetic and heartbreaking conclusion, in the best Last of Us style.

If you have finished and TRULY hated that game, ok, it's your right to hate it. If you haven't even finished this story and decided to just board the hate train, I invite you to expand your horizons, try to dive into this story as it was conceived and accept - even if you don't agree - all the subversive choices in the script.

Last of Us 2 is not a game, it is a life experience.

    + the story was compex
(which is why many kids who prefer peace, joy and pancakes are disliking this game)
+ it rightfully didn't just let Joel get away with **** up the whole world by not letting Ellie decide for herself
+ the initial enemies were humanized, the initial people you loved at first were shown realistically, they were just as bad/good as some of the others
+ I appreciate the LGBT representation

    - I might be wrong but I can't imagine how humans like Abby or Ellie can be so human and brutal at the same time (is that possible?)
    - how could they not reflect themselves a lot more? why did Ellie feel bad for killing a pregnant woman but was almost harming Lev just for the sake of her **** revenge

From the first second I loved playing it. The graphics are **** awesome. The Characters look like real people.
Yeah, it sucks that Joel had to die, but to me it didn't come as a surprise. From the first trailer I thought he would be dead. So, it was a story of revenge and, who is the bad guy in this? Abby for killing him? Or Joel for killing her dad an saving Ellie, but to what price? Ellie and Thommy both lost their wives, and for what? Revenge, But Joel is still dead. And Jesse. And so many more people. So, naughty dog told us a story about what violence can do. And in the End Ellie is all alone, the thing she most feared....

I pray for a third game, the story is not over, abd I pray for our Ellie to get her girl and son back.

Thx Naughty dog for the best story I have ever played.

The Last of Us 2 has probably been one of the most polarizing games of the last decade. Naughty Dog takes a risk with their story telling in this latest installment of their post-apocalyptic IP. Gone are the formulaic yet entertaining stories as seen with the Uncharted series; no, in this sequel we get to explore the stages of grief one goes through when encountered with a tragic loss, and the effects they have on themselves and their loved ones.

    Brief Description:

Ellie’s story in The Last of Us 2 is one of grueling pain, suffering, and ultimately revenge. As her journey progresses, her insatiable lust for revenge grows stronger, throwing away her humanity with each life she takes. We’re also introduced to the character Abby, whose journey echoes Ellie’s. Both characters have experienced a lot in this unforgiving world, and ultimately it’s up to the player to figure out the right and wrong of the actions made by the two, if this is even possible. The moral ambiguity presented in this story makes it difficult to root for a hero, but this is the way Naughty Dog challenges you to view it, and form your own opinions about the story they told. Story:

While I enjoyed the 25 hours I put into this game , I did a couple issues which prevented me from giving it a higher score. The story on paper is very interesting, however translating it to a game can be difficult. While I appreciate the parallels the game made with flashbacks for both Ellie and Abby; the execution and timing interrupted the flow of the narrative. The pacing of the game as a whole suffered due to the inclusion of the scenes, albeit they were necessary to flesh out the characters and revisit old relationships. Gameplay/Visuals: The gameplay was very much similar to the original game; however, it’s clear that the developers took the time to perfect this gameplay loop and make it as enjoyable as possible. Visually the game is stunning, and running on my old PS4 still manages to hold a constant and smooth 30 FPS. No issues to be had here. In addition, the fan noise produced by my OG PS4 was not as bad as I initially had thought it would be. Much quieter when compared to other taxing games such as God of War, and AC Odyssey. It’s worth noting that I had cleaned my PS4 recently, and replaced the thermal paste (may have helped somewhat).

    Wrapping Up:

Overall, this game does a lot of things right. If you go into it with an open mind, a decent understanding of empathy and other basic human emotions, you’re in store for a masterful piece of storytelling.

Let me start by saying TLOU 1 is one of my ( top 3 ) favorite games of all time. top tier character development and story telling that kept me coming back for more and getting me into all the feels. if you're looking for the same in part 2 do your self a favor and listen to everyone else who made the mistake and do not buy!!

to elaborate on the scores given above, the graphics ( im playing on a ps4 pro ) are amazing from the water, to the hair, to the grass the textures are on point and everything is smooth as butter. the score fits in right along with the game with no complaints in this section. definitely a beauty of a game.

the game play hasn't changed much since the first game which really didn't do this game any favors. repetitive combat, no puzzles, linear levels and mashing the square button when anything goes wrong. really left you wanting more and felt out dated.

and here we go for the story, oh boy its so bad i don"t even really know where to begin lets start with the forced politics in this game. no im not homophobic and i dont hate trans people but those characters were 100 percent forced into the series. people play video games to escape real world bull****. how ever that is not what even made this game so bad. Ellie and Joel have completely lost their personality and make decisions they otherwise wouldn't have made in the first game leading to things like joels death and many other poor choices along the way. all the new characters are introduced with little to no character development and then are killed off and you're expected to feel something? a little over half way through the game you are forced to play as Abby who i ( and many many others ) could care less about and they force you to try and feel bad about the decisions you previously made. i really wanted to put the game down at this point but i forced myself to keep going. after hours of pushing through the "revenge" story you've been playing all along is for nothing because all of a sudden Ellie has a change of heart and simply lets joels killer walk? because revenge is bad?? what a joke. bottom line this game destroyed the legacy the first game built, and everything you knew and loved through poor story telling and piss poor writing. essentially it is the season 8 game of thrones of video games. i wish i could erase this game from my memory, and i can see why half the studio left in the making.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is gonna be my honest review about the Last of Us Part 2. I will start by saying I love the first game, it's probably in my top 3 of all time. What made that game so great? The characters and the journey of the story.
So when you already kill the main character of the first game in the first 2h of the game, that's really hard to take in. I just want to be clear on something: I don't have a problem with Joel dying, but I have a problem with how it was executed. It was just so unrealistic and stupid and something Joel & Tommy never would have done. That really put a damper on me liking the game. The problem in itself is that ND lied about the game in the trailers. Nothing was indicating Joel was dying in the first couple of hours and I'm gonna guess 90 % would have wanted a story/journey with Joel and Ellie again. The positive things about this game is of course the graphics, amazing AI and great combat. But what does that do when after 2 hours of the game and u don't feel engaged in the story anymore? So I did play it, but I never really enjoyed it. The fact that you have to play as Joel's killer in half the game also made me seriously consider putting the controller down. This is ND weakest game to date and they have to seriously do something special to hook me the way they have done before as I won't really trust what they will put in the trailers of their next game, whatever that is.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I played the last of us 2. I just got done playing the first Last of Us but the game is massive disappointment compared to the first. I don't see how massive game Journalist will give this game a 10/10. And then claim that everyone that who gives it a bad score has not played it. Well I played it and it's still a bad story. Also I know for fact that they haven't played the game because if definitely not 10/10 game.

Positives: Graphics and gameplay in this game Is are amazing. When playing stealth on survivor felt like it was a true survivor game that if I get shot it actually matter. I've to be very careful in each encounter I got into or I would be killed and there are so may ways you can take out enemy's. Sound effects and cutsceans are one the best on any PS4 game I've ever seen.

Negatives: Ok the story is just a bad rollercoaster ride. I don't know why they choose to go down this path for the writing of the game. For the first Hour of the game you play as the new character Abby and she kills Joel. I'm not mad that they killed Joel I'm mad how they did it. Another massive issue In this game are the new characters you are suppose to care about. As Abby when her friends die by Ellie the game expects that you should feel bad for them when you don't. Same thing for Ellie new friends like Jesse I never really game a **** about them through out the game. The Plot for Abby is so dumb. The game tries way to hard to make us feel bad for Abby and it fails at that. The only thing that was slightly interesting about Abby story was Lev backstory. Then after you're with Lev and Lara dies her story feels pointless and that there is no end goal and that I'm doing useless crap with Lev. Ellie flashback with Joel was really nice especially the birthday one. But Even Ellie story feels like the plot and her charter are just weakened and out of touch compared to the first game. By the End of the game the only characters you only really care about are the one from the first game such as Ellie and Tommy. And When Ellie about to kill Abby I guess the writers thought that we will like Abby but we don't. They should've killed Abby it's more realistic. Or better yet written a whole different Story.

The Writing of the story is what basically what destroys this game I don't know why Neil Druckmann thought this was a good story. He said that he wanted to respect the characters of the first game well all I've seen was disrespect toward Joel and Ellie in this Game.
