The idiots who rated the game 0/10 never fully played it, never understanding the true reason for the trauma we went through. That being said, the game itself is fun, challenging, and provocative. Gameplay is reactive and tight, and every situation is varied depending on your play style, be it stealthy, combat-heavy, or a mix. Environmental puzzles are abounding, exploration is rewarding, and innovative experiences break up standard gameplay. Long story short, this game is fun as hell. I will start with the intro, Naughty Dog did what they do best, giving a player an unexpected/highly interesting intro to players to continue playing the game, they are very good at doing so, The gameplay, puzzles, characters were all perfectly made (Btw some characters weren't the same as the trailer, but every company does the same to sell their game, the only thing I would criticise wasI will start with the intro, Naughty Dog did what they do best, giving a player an unexpected/highly interesting intro to players to continue playing the game, they are very good at doing so, The gameplay, puzzles, characters were all perfectly made (Btw some characters weren't the same as the trailer, but every company does the same to sell their game, the only thing I would criticise was the fact that Joel was the one who held his hand around Ellie to keep her calm, when in fact it was Jesse. I see what they were trying to tell us storywise, showing that every story has to sides of it, but I wouldn't consider that players would be happy playing 10h as a character who killed our beloved character from the first game, Joel. This part of the game could have been a DLC in my opinion. The ending wasn't that great, I think if there was an option to choose either to kill Abby or let her life would improve the ending 10 times more, I think the only thing that this game is missing on is the value and the attachment to the story and characters of the game, An idea would be if Tommy was killed in front of Joel and Ellie, so Ellie had to track Joel down and help him to his destiny but then choose if Abby would die and take care of the kid or let Abby live and let the kid remember this moment. WE would also like more if we could have seen more of whats Ellies life is all about, The flashbacks were you played as Ellie with Tommy and Joel were so good that if the game had a lot of those and combine together to one story it would have been the greatest story game of 2020.
It isn't easy to make a game and I hate ppl hating on it bc of example pewdiepie didn't like it (Famous Youtuber), This game has a lot of good reviews, but it's overlooked by all the hate from Youtube that some famous Youtubers had made for this game, This game is one of the best-built game in mechanics, graphics, looks, solving puzzles, and well-made games out there, but the story is the part where it really hits this game bad.

Thx for reading; have a nice day :)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us part 2 from a narrative perspective...is a mess. A beautiful mess. This story could have been so much more but due to poor direction and risky decision making by Neill Druckmann the end result simply didn’t quite hit the mark.

By having Abby kill Joel relatively early on in the story it automatically makes her hated by the player. So making said player have to take control of her for 10+ hours was an idiotic decision that frustrated many players( including myself). I feel that this could have been somewhat fixed if the story had been told in a different order. Allow the player to get to know Abby and her connection to Joel before she kills him; that way the player can actually understand to an extent why Abby does what she does. It may not change how you feel about her but at least it gives the player an appreciation for her actions before you have to play as her for half of the entire game. As for Abbys storyline...IT IS COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT TO THE ENTIRE GAMES PLOT!The Seraphites storyline has no impact on the fights between Ellie and Abby or the ending whatsoever! It’s as if Neill Druckmann came up with two entirely different games and decided to cram them both together. It simply DOESN’T WORK! The games ending was poorly executed as well. I don’t mind that the game has a sad ending as it feels rather poetic. What isn’t poetic is that I had to go through the Santa Barbra portion of the game facing off against ANOTHER group that once again have NO BEARING ON THE OVERALL STORY/ MESSAGE OF THE GAME WHATSOEVER! I wish that this section was cut out from the game as it feels tacked on and only serves as a way for Ellie and Abby to fight again. This could have easily been remedied by having a Seattle day 4 where you play as Ellie still hellbent on killing Abby. Then, have the fight scene take place, Ellie let’s Abby go and then have the game finish with Ellie and Dina at the farm where they can finally be happy. As the game comes to a close, we get to watch the flashback between Joel and Ellie where they somewhat reconcile and just like that... the game ends. That’s just my personal take on how I feel the story should have went but to be honest I would be happier with probably anything other than what we got. As for the characters in the game, I felt little connection or interest in any of the side characters besides the ones established in Part 1 as well as Dina. Jesse is a solid character but his only real character trait is that he is the father of JJ and his only role is to serve as your AI partner while Dina rests. However, despite what I just said, I did have quite an interest in Lev( the seraphite defect). His backstory is quite interesting and despite what many people think of Neill Druckmanns supposed “LGBT agenda”, I feel as though Levs sexuality and how it affects him as well as the others around him is the main thing that made me interested in the seraphite storyline. Don’t get me wrong, it is by no means a bad storyline, it just simply didn’t belong in THIS story! The best part about the plot in my opinion is the flashbacks we get as Ellie. Seeing her go to the dinosaur museum warmed my heart and I had a smile on my face the entire time. Truly a beautiful scene and my personal favourite part of the game. It’s unfortunate however that the best parts about this game are the flashback sequences as Ellie. They really put a lot of time and care into crafting these segments and it sucks that that care is not reflected in the main story.

In terms of gameplay, the game controls similarly to the first TLOU with enough newly added enemy types and gameplay mechanics to keep the formula fresh. Approaching encounters is so much fun because there are so many different ways you can play them. From killing enemy’s silently one by one to going on a shooting spree, it really feels like you are the character as they traverse through the game and I love that. The game from a technical standpoint runs great, the audio is spot on and the graphics are breathtaking. These qualities really make you feel immersed in the experience.

Unfortunately, however, these great qualities can’t save TLOU part 2 from being a game full of waisted potential. I don’t think it deserves all of the mass hate that it has been getting, but I can certainly see why some players have reacted negatively to the game. I hope that TLOU story ends here or if they decide to make a 3rd instalment, that it be centred on entirely different characters or that it be set in the past where we can take control as Joel once again.

The game length is around 30 hours and almost double the size of the first game. You play as the protagonist and antagonist and the cool thing is, these are interchangeable concepts depending on the characters point of view which is the theme of the narrative. I don't think some players are mature enough for something different, thought provoking, gritty and brutally real.

The game shows actions have consequences and the ending is satisfying as far as character arc and changes go.

No! But here’s my issue. The story is all over the place. It’s almost as if the writers had 3-4 ideas and couldn’t decide on which one to use so they used them all! The last act of the game was completely unnecessary. I think we could have had more Joel/Ellie in the beginning AND then kill him off. People giving this game a 10 are crazy. It seemed like it was going to be a game of the year contender... until the first 2 hours came and went and they killed off joel like an NPC. From that point on it went from GOTY contender to the worst game of the year. The story was incredibly dull and made absolutely no sense. Possibly the worst story I ever experienced. Poor storyline: you buy the game for the characters you love and end up with Joel being slaughtered in the first hours and with being forced to play (for hours) as his murder, a character you hate. The game tries hard to push you into liking Abby, but the result is instead just annoying. Had to force myself to reach the end, which is also totally disappointing since you don’t even get the revenge you wanted.

Forced **** topics that strikes as exaggerated beyond any Suspension of disbelief. Almost all the main characters are women or asians, whic is fairly unrealistic. Even as the classical huge/strong human enemy they choose a giant fat woman.. it’s very rare to see two men talking with each other in the whole game. White males are killed and replaced with women and asian, the couple Joel + Ellie wasn’t woke enough so was replaced with Abby + Lev. Finally, not to leave any woke topic behind, we have gay characters, trans characters and so forth. Nothing against that in general, but here everything looks out of context and forced, it looks too much. Left Behind was also including such topics but not in this way and indeed got good ratings.

The thing I've seen most from critics who give this a 1/10 is that a certain character dies too early, but that doesn't even register in the overall picture of what this game has to offer and shows that these people were either too shook to understand the story that follows, or never bothered to play it in the first place. And no, watching your favorite streamer play through TLOU2 is NOT a substitute for doing it yourself, you weirdo.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. An incredible achievement. This game elevates narrative to a level never reached before, while delivering tense stealth, satisfying combat, rewarding progression, and some terrifying set-pieces. I don’t buy that anyone actually believes this is 0/10. Clearly they only rate it that low because they feel upset by it. Why are they upset? Well ND makes some controversial decisions with the story. Chiefly, Joel is killed early on and many players seem to feel betrayed by this. There are good reasons why this choice works: Joel has been living a more comfortable life after his recovery from injury in TLoU. He is surprised by the ambush at the house, and sure theat is a mistake on his part, but he has walked into ambushes before in TLoU, so there is a precedent for this failure.

Also, Joel achieved his redemption in TLoU when he saved Ellie, but this action costs him his life. Some reactionaries might not like it, but that story makes sense. They think that SJWs are coming to take away their action heroes, but Joel was never really that. He was just a dad who lost his kid and was broken by the loss.

Anyway, anyone reading through all these 0/10 ratings should notice that they are all weirdly hostile and aggrieved and not take them seriously. The game is great, and is even better on a second play through.

Expand

But I have not stopped thinking about the game since I completed it. The feelings I've felt and are still feeling is something completely unique that I've never felt in any other medium before. This game will challange your emotions and if you're not ready for that sort of experience then this game is not for you. This isn't a Marvel movie or a Uncharted game. This is a game about imperfect human beings struggling to survive and handle love and loss. I was unsure at first but I'm completely sure now. TLoU2 is in my opinion a 10/10 game. The story is incredibly well written and challenging to the player, the graphics are fantastic, environments are stunning, the sound and music is amazing and the gameplay makes every single encounter intense. This game is without a doubt a experience I won't soon forget.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me start this off by saying I LOVED the first Last of Us. It's one of my favorite games ever and I was super excited for this game but after playing it I wish the first one never had a sequel. This game's narrative and story are absolutely horrible. Everything happens out of order. For example, they talked about a bar fight in the beginning of the game and don't even show what it was about until 17 hours in. Another example, the flashback sequences, which were the main highlight of this game, are shown at random points. and their ideas were poorly executed. This revenge plot was awful and after 25 hours you don't even get your revenge on Abby for killing Joel. Ellie loses everything and doesn't even kill Abby. I'm not upset by the fact that Joel died because that was bound to happen. Getting back to the point about the story being out of order, Joel has 2 scenes before he dies. If the flashbacks were shown first, his death would have had a much more of an emotional impact. The way they killed him was pathetic too, he gets whacked to death with a golf club after he announces who he is to a bunch of armed strangers. Naughty Dog baited us by showing Joel saying "You think I would let you do this on your own" but it's actually Jesse who says that. Speaking of Jesse, when a character dies they are forgotten about, just like he was. After Jesse died he was never mentioned again. The same went for Manny, one of Abby's friends, and Neil Druckmann's self-insert character. Tommy killed him and nobody mentioned him again. They also ram this "revenge bad" narrative down your throat. Red Dead Redemption was more subtle with this kind of thing. They pull the "she's pregnant" card twice to tell you "revenge is bad, it made you kill that pregnant lady". None of the characters are really good either. They aren't developed properly to make you like them. The only 2 good characters in the new cast were Yara and Lev in my opinion. They do a terrible job of trying to make you sympathize with Abby as well because we saw her in the first 2 hours of the game murder Joel in cold blood. This makes you not care and want to kill her, not play as her for half of this game. I'm now gonna talk about the things I liked. The combat is still spectacular and it's been overhauled. The map is beautiful as well as the music. The voice acting was great but none of these these things make up for this abomination of a story in my opinion and the way Naughty Dog has handled everything. I had low expectations because of the leaks but was even more disappointed than I thought I would be. Naughty Dog also abused copyright to take down videos about the leaks and tried to cover up by saying it wasn't them. To summarize, this game is a disaster and probably the worst Naughty Dog game I have played. Expand

This makes me miss the first last of us so much. The shill media gave this game 10/10 and that’s insane. Sony money and “progressive” political agendas are working overtime with this title! This game is absolutely terrible for the following reasons. Joel was killed early and in a nonsensical fashion. The gameplay was stale, and Naughty’s character development was God awful. I’m just so happy that I used my buddies copy instead of spending my own money.

I am not going to count the graphic and combat at all, it is because the devs are just using things from the Last of us, nothing changed in the combat system at all. The only thing for devs to do is to create combat campaign and story plot. Seems like there is a lot of hate out there which probably stems from gamers having to play strong complex woman, as opposed to 'good old Joel' . That and the story is darker and less forgiving for characters' past actions. People need to get over their attachments to previous characters, especially given the post apocalyptic context. I for one thought it was a fantastic game. Beautiful visuals, enthralling gameplay and compelling story. The plot admittedly does get slightly frustrating in parts, but overall its both emotionally challenging and beautiful. The characters are way more complex and developed than we usually see in these types of game. Hats off to Naughty Dog for pulling this off. Ignore the hate. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I had never played the Last of Us but had heard good things about that game, so I didn't want to miss out on this one. Presumably there were a lot of folks like me who were expecting a similar experience. What we get instead is a hodgepodge game with no sense of direction and an overriding theme all the time - revenge! Both the protagonists on this game are so driven by the sense of revenge that it just gets tedious after a while playing this game. The only thing that kept me going was the urge to explore the world. Boy does the story and narrative make it hard to do that. All said, this game is definitely not a 10/10 as IGN's Jonathon Dornbush rated it. But it's not the worst either. The initial few hours are enjoyable, but once you start playing as Abby that's when things get bad. To me, RDR2 remains the gold standard when it comes to telling a story in a game. You could actually connect with the characters and that made the game so much more enjoyable. This game, not so much. So yeah, Naughty Dog, if you are reading this review, take this as feedback. It's not a bad game, it's just not the "masterpiece" IGN claims it is and which is probably what a lot of users were expecting too. Expand

In this game, whatever the first game was about is completely ignored, Zombies? **** them all, all that **** doesnt matter, what matters now is to pander 2020 society issues from a very biased pov, not only that, the "revenge" story arc is stupid, because it leads to no revenge in virtue of being a good person, despite being a serial murderer to reach the main antagonist who is a cartoon of whatever the writer wanted it to be, a chimera of progressive ideals with no soul and nothing interesting to say.

Metacritc removed my review on my old account because of its "content" and I suspect they've been using that excuse to remove a lot of other negative reviews because this game does not deserve a 4.9. Metacritic, do not remove my review again. Ive heard a lot of people saying "This game doesn't deserve a 10/10 but it definitely doesn't desrve a 0/10" fs Naughty Dog flat out lied to you during the marketing for the game, they abused their staff to the point of hospitalisation and they issued false copyright claims on youtube channels who merely discussed the leaks, which is illegal btw. So yeah, as far as i am concerned this game has truely earned its 0 out of 10
For the record, i went into this game with an open mind and did not look at the leaks as i was hyped for the game. I completed the game from start to finish and so did everyone who are giving this game the **** reviews it deserves and anyone saying people are giving this game the terrible reviews it deserves because they are homophobic then they definitely didnt play the first game. Because guess what? Ellie is still gay in that game but everyone still loves her beacuse being gay is her sexuality not her personality unlike in this terrible game. Some of the "good" points about this game that keep coming up are its graphics and gameplay. Like i mentioned Naughty Dog abused their staff for years and drove them to quit or end up in hospital. This abuse was the catalyst for the leaks and anyone thinking that some how hackers caused the leaks are **** stupid. So yeah, if you work your staff 24 hours a day then the graphics have to be good fs. The gameplay is the exact same as TLOU apart from a **** rope and jump button and the mainstream gaming media were sucking them new features off, like fs its a jump and rope addition its not that **** great

It forced me to empathize with someone that I REALLY didn't want to empathize with. I eventually really came to like the Abby character, though I wouldn't go as far as to say that I accepted her. And I would say for good reason.

I had to sit back for a few days and really take it all in before I even deigned to form a final opinion on the game and while I felt cheated when the credits rolled, I came to really appreciate the story upon further contemplation. It's a story about love, loss and redemption. It's a story that makes you face the harsh realities of how it's like to go through the things that the MC's went through and what hatred and obsession can do to your psyche. It's a great game.
There were some things that I did not see the point to and it annoyed me a little since it felt like it could easily have been told in a different way and it would've told the same story, but it didn't detract from the story in it's entirety and I really appreciated all the characters.

From technical aspect, this game deserves almost full marks. The visuals are gorgeous and the sound design is phenomenal. There were small things that I picked up that were a little off but it didn't detract from the amazing job that the people at ND did. Well done.

Can't wait to play this game again after some time away from the game. I really want to sit down and try to understand and look deeper into the motivations of the characters and how it all ties together. That alone tells me that it's a good game. It makes you think. It makes you really sit down and have an internal debate to evaluate what you think and why you think it. I'm generally a one and done pony.

I do feel like the pacing in the story was a little off and that some scenes could have contributed to a more comprehensive story overall, if it were played at different times. That's mainly where my gripes lie. All the elements for a great story is there and had it played out in a bit of a different order I think it could have done a better job. Not that it didn't do a really good job regardless.

Would I recommend this game to friends? Definitely. But only if I know they have the ability to really sit down and think and deliberate about what they see.

Good gameplay amazing story soundtrack is a masterpice only thing that bothers me is the film grain other than that its fun lots of accessibility options you can even customize the settings to make stealth easier but you twke more damage or find less loot or make enemies more agressive you can change almost every setting People are just buthurt because Joel dies but i see that as an amazing opportunity for revenge it was the only way for the story to continue everyone's a great character very memorable they have their side of the story and you get to see their side if it succeeds it will make you love the game but if it fails you will most likeli dislike the story Ellie not Killing Abby makes sense and you can really see that she dosen't wanna kill her in the end she just wants to kill her for Joel and to get past ger trauma Expand

First of all, before some fool thinks my dislike of this game has anything to do with LBGQT, I loved the first game and thought Bill's homosexuality was done well and the Left Behind DLC was great and makes perfect sense in the context of this world that Ellie would be attracted to women instead of men.

I was really enjoying this game even though the story is mediocre but then they made me play as Abby for a second time after what she did to start the game. I have absolutely no interest in playing that character and could care less about her story after what she's done. If the devs would have put her story before the incident it would've made it much less infuriating that I have to play for an extended period of time as her even though all the marketing was designed to mislead gamers into thinking we'd be playing as Ellie and interacting with Joel often. Despite that, I was ready to give the game an 8 or 9 because I was enjoying the gameplay, but considering how difficult it's going to be to finish the game because I can't stand Abby I just can't. The gameplay is much improved from the first game. The story isn't nearly as good but the voice acting is amazing and the graphics are beautiful. I really wish they hadn't decided to put Abby's story near the end because it completely ruined the climax that had been building with Ellie's journey. Abby getting the upper hand was very cliche, the typical bad guy gets the jump on the good guy off camera scenario we really should've been able to fight Abby and have a choice on dealing with her. I don't need a 25-hour lecture on how bad revenge is, everyone knows revenge is bad and it's not a concept that leads to a lot of motivation for an entire game. This game is really Abby's journey not Ellie's as you play longer as Abby than you do as Ellie but Abby was NEVER going to be a sympathetic character after brutally beating and coldly murdering Joel. I know Manny is NOT Druckman but the resemblance cannot be denied which adds a lot of symbolism to that character spitting on Joel's corpse.
One of the most upsetting aspects of the story in this game is characters not acting like themselves. Joel was one of the most careful characters you could imagine in the first game yet surrounded by strangers he gives out his name, give me a break. The idea that 5 years in Jackson while going on patrols would make him that careless doesn't make sense. Joel didn't even fully trust Ellie until they got to Jackson in the first game and even that took Ellie running away for him to finally give in to his feelings for her.

If the marketing for this game wasn't so misleading and they had treated Joel with more respect I seriously doubt there would be this much hate for the game. It appears Druckman had the idea of Revenge as a central story and clumsily altered the characters to fit that narrative rather than allowing the characters to tell the story which is part of what made the first game's story so amazing.

One last frustrating major plot hole is that Ellie kills over a hundred WLF and Scars but in the end changes her mind and that choice is taken out of the player's hands??? In the end, they couldn't even give the player the satisfaction of eliminating the character that disrespected such a beloved protagonist.

Yes I know that was the point that Joel didn't deserve a heroes ending but at the very least he deserved to go out in character. One of the things I loved about the original was that despite living in a world that was dark and horrible there was a beauty in Joel and Ellie's relationship which was a ray of light in the darkness. This game does away with any message other than revenge destroys everyone involved and everything sux. It's easy to simply leave the characters in darkness in a world like this but took something extra in the first game to leave the player with a question after it ended, was that a good /positive ending?

Ignore those pathetic review bombing snowflakes that cant cope with something not confirming their sad little view of the world. Valid cristicism? Sure, no problem with that. But posting reviews just with a political agenda? BS!

Terrible. Absolutely terrible. Terrible story, terrible writing and game was controlled by SJWs. They made sure the main thing u we’re thinking about was the main character (Ellie) being a lesbian. They also killed of all the male characters and killed off Joel, the main guy in the last game in the cheapest way possible. The reason I’m giving it a 1/10 and not a 0/10 is bc the gameplay isTerrible. Absolutely terrible. Terrible story, terrible writing and game was controlled by SJWs. I mean, people wait 7 years for this and of course they got disappointed. It is a completely underwhelming game with no redeeming feature. They even cut the multiplayer I mean come on.

Sony need to disband ND and give players a refund for this.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
