‘This is the only game I have ever played, that requires some of you to play’ Troy Baker. There have been several bombastic reactions to the release of this game, dating back to the reveal and subsequent leaks. There have been claims of false advertising, which, personally, I believe is overblown - as they had to alter specific content to protect those who did not ruin the story for themselves.

Anyway, the story is harrowing, brutal, enlightening and admittedly taxing at times. It holds up a mirror to your ego, emotional impulses and objectivity. ‘At first I thought this was a game about hate, then I realised it is about love and hope’ Neil Druckmann. Throughout the violence, brutality and sacrifice - can you hold on to those you love, the person you are and control your irrationally - fighting to hold on, instead of giving in to your hateful destructive quest for ‘justice’. Hate can lose you more than letting go. There is a price for forgiveness, but is it a bigger one than revenge? That’s for you to decide.

Amazing game. Definitely don’t get all the hate but to each their own. Hats off to naughty dog and the fantastic actors Ashley, Troy and Laura. Story took me places I had no idea it would take me and kept me on edge if my seat all 27 hours it took for me to beat it. In one weekend. Can’t wait to play it for years to come. Fingers crossed that dlc news isn’t true.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Yes I played the entire game. No I didn't see the spoilers or reviews before making an opinion.
The gorgeous graphics and ambiance couldn't save this drowning mess of a game if you tossed it a life line.
In my brutally honest opinion no respectable gamer or legit LOU fan would ever give this steaming hot garbage a 10/10 review. You couldn’t pay me enough to write lies like that especially to a follow-up to the 2013 masterpiece.
Based on the teaser trailer I think we all guessed correctly that Joel’s life would be cut short. "Live by the sword die by the sword" has always been a good mantra for these apocalyptic games. It makes sense as a drive for Ellie to go on the journey she does and it’s what gave me the initial boost of aggravation to seek revenge on the new character, Abby (who looks like a knockoff of Ronda Rousey). However any good writer should know that you can't kill a beloved pivotal character so quickly in a 30hr game only to turn around and force you play the killer in a cheap gimmick to make you sympathize with their logic for their actions. Joel isn't the type to give shady strangers personal info freely either so that was idiotic. I didn't buy into that lazy Abby plot twist at all and it was painful to slog through the latter half of the game with an unlikable character. To make matters worse Ellie has lost her charm and biting wit too so when playing her it felt I wasn't really playing the "real" Ellie if that makes sense.
Since you play Ellie's version of events prior, you know Abby's efforts will result in the same outcome therefore playing Abby was intensely boring and made me even angrier.
The first LOU had me on the edge of my seat and compelled me to play hours and hours straight just to find out what happened in the next chapter, but this sequel felt like a slog and chore. I had to actually step away from the game many times due to repetitive tasks and unnecessarily long action sequences in between too many cinematic cut scenes which I NEVER had to do with the first game. To me that's a huge sign that Naughty Dog failed miserably.
The tiny bright story moments were the flashback scenes with Ellie, Joel and Tommy. In fact if they had just released a game with nothing but flashbacks it would've been far better.
The new infected are ok and the dialogue and reactions of the human enemies was a nice improvement. Besides that it was a nose dive into hell. Especially when you're forced to kill dogs in a terribly brutal way.
Then there's the awkward love triangles that didn't make me like/dislike anyone they were forcing down my throat to sympathize/hate with. Jessie was just basically a sperm donor who could've been killed much earlier in the game and it wouldn't have effected much else. They should've paid more attention to the many plot holes instead which were GIANT.
Now to the rest of the new characters! Lev is a trans cult member. Since when do dystopian people have the time to give a flying rat's butt about trans issues when they're too busy starving to death or trying to survive blood thirsty gangs and infected? No one, that's who, and it's a non-dystopian problem. In fact if you remove Lev and that side story and just focused on his sister/mother it would've sufficed for an excuse for Abby to visit their island base. The trans aspect added no value. Just empty calories. Also this quest overall is just poor filler to explain where Abby was during the events too. I bet Neil is patting his smug back for being such a great sjw and so are the reviewers for praising it.
Then there's Dina. Dina has the depth of a puddle. She is Ellie's love interest and eventual "partner in crime". Her character felt hollow and had no endearing moments that made me think "Gee she's so cool and awesome like Ellie. I really want her to live through this." In fact the awkward unnecessary sex scene in a pot farm operation was what tipped me over the edge for really disliking where the direction of the game was taking me. Abby's graphic sex scene was even worse. Since when did LOU need this to progress the plot? Last I checked this wasn't Game Of Thrones even though it sucks like season 8. I can't stress this enough that the plot is atrocious anyway, but it was like Neil purposely hired an immature hack writer that had college fantasies living through characters of this game.
The epilogue was dragged to an inch of it's miserable life where I was left thinking "Ok this must be the LAST cut scene it's gotta be! For the love of God make it stop". 10 merciless cut scenes later....I was scrambling through my purse for the receipt in hopes to get a refund, which I did the next day and put that credit towards Cyberpunk.
7 years. SEVEN YEARS to make this the most epic return and they squandered it.
I'm going to try and erase this insulting stain from my memory.
*bell ring* SHAME Naughty Dog and *intense bell ring* SHAME on you Neil! SHAME!!

Gameplay - Sadly I found the gameplay, especially the combat, to be on a very similar level to the first game. The aiming and shooting still feel very clunky, and the game was too long and felt like a drag after the half way point.

Story - This is where the game breaks down for me, it's a weak plot triggered by the killing of a well loved character. The story is also told is such a disjointed order, that as soon as something important happens, you're back to another flashback. And not only that, you have to play as the killer for the second half of the game. The game tries to make you synthesize with the killer, but underestimates the attachment we have for the original characters.

This game had a rating of 2.6 with 40000 votes within the fir 24 hours which is not possible because the playthrough took about 24-25 hours and youtube channels like geeks and gamers are making this game as issue due to DMCA claims, thats also fine but atleast target the entire issue and not just this game because they striked your channel, thats grudge that you hold and having more than half a million people watching him cry online about the DMCA and other youtubers made 40-50k negative review bombardment. Verdict - Game has a great storytelling, could have avoided the timeline touch but other than that story makes you leave your controller because your are that much attached to the characters and that is an accomplishment

The ending is what sort of redeems the character arcs of all them and. You may not be satisfied, I wasn't but I was ok with the ending which sets up the third game.

The idea the devs have of the story was good but the execution is where they mess up. Some gameplay descions and character descions made will surely upset players which is the only reason in my opinion that gives the game this controversy. The ending might also not make it home for some but if you try to understand by the end the decisions Ellie and other characters make and the point of the story it will definitely make the game better for you.

Like I said, the execution was bad which brings this game down but the point of the effects cycle of violence and vengeance has on a person is shown well.

First of, this game is not a 0/0. Neither is it a 10/10. The only thing i have against this game, is the story. Everything besides the story, gameplay, sound so on and so on, is fantastic. It really is fantastic. Where the problems start for me, is the story. ND takes some choices throughout the game that i do not agree with.. It’s not just because of Abby, because actually, the overall gameplay experience and missions you play as her is more fun and enjoyable than Ellies. It’s how they do it. A lot in the story doesnt make sense compared to the first game. But you’ll have to play it yourself to understand.

The ending is the biggest flaw. It’s executed so bad. It’s an overall good game and enjoyable experience, but it had flade. SPOILER**** The ending. Playing as Abby in the last mission was a mistake. Ellie losing the fight like that and Abby just storming off was weird. And yeah, part of it is just that you hate to see the “hero”/main character get beat up/lose. Either way gane was good, just not what i expected. And not as good as it could have been.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I went into this with an open mind and no matter how much I tried this game just did not feel like I was playing The Last of Us at all. This is Part Two, the second half following an amazing first half. The only times I felt like I was playing The Last of Us was when there was a flashback between Ellie and Joel. That's when I was emotional and was invested in the story, getting lost in the flashback. We have this incredible ending to the first part, and it leaves you wondering- what happens to these two after this? Instead we're surprised with a new character who takes up half of the game with Ellie and Joel's relationship taking a back seat. The characters in the first game are so memorable, and have so much depth. The characters in Part 2 are forgettable, there are moments that they die and I don't even care about it. When Henry from the first game shot himself I was left in awe with my jaw dropped. The game tries to develop these new relationships, but the development is not there and it just feels forced or lacking. Abby and Ellie's timelines barely connect so when we switch to Abby it feels like I'm playing a completely different game with a character I find hard to like. I did not care at all for a chunk of her story being about a love triangle. At one point I asked myself "am I even playing The Last of Us?" It may have been more interesting if Abby and Ellie's stories connected more. Abby's part feels like a chore because I feel her backstory is pointless. I understand her motivations, I understand she is the human on the other side of bad things we've done as Joel, but I don't care about it- especially for 10 hours. I could never play this game a second time due to Abby's part. By the time we get back to playing as Ellie, I have such a complete disconnect from the game. It's like the game wanted me to somehow gather the same momentum and investment I had from Ellie's part that I played over 10 hours ago. I could go on and on but I just was really disappointed. I understand what they were trying to do, unfortunately for me, it didn't do anything for me. I understand people worked hard for years on this game, and the game looks great, the gameplay is fun, but the story- the most important part to me, and an important part in a character driven game, was not there for me. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wow is this game something else. I am writing this review about 24 hours after finishing the game and I am still unsure as to how I should be feeling about this, the ending specifically. The game opens a short amount of time after the events of the first, and we play as Joel whilst the opening credits roll. Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson continue their outstanding performances from the first game in the scenes they share together at the start, and throughout the rest of the game.

I had seen the leaks before beginning my play through and like everyone else, I only felt anger towards this game, but it must, must be played. Those scenes were truly out of context and it is crucial you play through the whole game before hating. You MUST play this, you cannot judge this based on seeing someone else's gameplay, you must play this for yourself.

    Spoilers from here:

This game breaks my heart - entirely. It is brutal, and I'm still an emotional wreck. Joel saves a new character, Abby, before he is then brutally tortured and murdered by her and her friends, in front of Ellie when she arrives. This creates a lot of anger towards this character, and also confusion. It's difficult to believe after the first game that Joel trusts a stranger, and goes back to their place, instead of going to a secure city roughly the same distance away. So yeah, wasn't exactly pleased with how they killed Joel.

Throughout the rest of the game, you get flashbacks with Joel, each one just had me see an innocent, great, old guy (very much not innocent), that just made me cry and realise the harshness of his death. When the game makes you play as Abby for hours on end, I wanted to put it down. At this stage, I stopped looking for collectables and just wanted to get back to Ellie. Surprisingly though, I did get somewhat intrigued by Abby's story, and start to feel some sort of care for the character, despite still wanting her dead for what she did to Joel.

It's the ending that really conflicts me. Abby gets to leave, losing nothing more than Ellie, whilst Ellie loses all of her relationships that mattered to her, and 2 of her fingers, breaking the bridge between her and Joel after his death. She can no longer play the guitar, and it breaks my heart.

The gameplay, AI, visuals etc are all on another level, and that is where The Last of Us Part II really shines. It is the most stunning game of this generation and is worth it just from the "game" perspective, ignoring your thoughts on the story.

Overall, I think The Last of Us Part II is a sequel we didn't need, but it's a game that will have an everlasting impact on me. I cannot stop thinking about what this game does, and how it has me so so upset for both Joel and Ellie. It's for that reason, combined with the gameplay I have given this a 10/10 - no other game has ever had me feel like this, and it's an experience you must go through. I will admit that if I could though, I would more accurately rate Part 2 with a 9.8/10 whilst Part 1 would win a 10/10. Part 1 has the better story for me, but Part 2 has everything perfect that a game needs – there are just some decisions with the story that I am not sure I agree with.

I do prefer the story of the 1st game, and I wish the story could have unfolded differently in this sequel, as in the end the only thing we saw Joel and Ellie actually gain from all this was nothing. They just lost people, themselves, and parts of themselves. I really wish this could have taken a different route, but I can't say this is a bad or mediocre game, it is technically still a masterpiece, I just wish things went differently. That's what's so clever though, the world is cruel and this is a game that makes you realise that.

I just ask that Naughty Dog clarify the ending (what happened with Dina etc), and maybe make a 3rd game somehow revealing that Joel isn't dead, and a cure is found, allowing for Joel and Ellie to clear out groups of infected and live a life in the normal world as Joel knew it with Sarah. Or, the more likely scenario, is a DLC similar to Left Behind is released, just giving us a lot of time with Joel and Ellie in Jackson similar to the flashbacks we got. I'd just be happy if the whole DLC was 4 hours of cutscenes between the 2 and other characters like Dina and Jesse. Wow has this game moved me. I can't stop thinking about it.

UPDATE: It has been 2 weeks since my first playthrough and having thought about this game more, it is slowly getting onto the same level as Part 1 for me and it is certainly a game that has to be played. It is a shame most of the user reviews on here are from people who haven’t even given the game a chance and are judging it based on 1 scene, or “experience” they have watching it on YouTube. It HAS to be played.

Why does ellie care so much about dina if they barley got together the night before. Before that dina was dating Jesse. Even though they knew each other for about 6 years that was pure friendship. Your telling me ellie is more worried about some girl she just hooked up with the night before. She acts like the events from the first game never happened. But with some random girl that lives in the town who barley shows interest in ellie, ellie feels the need to side track and try to find what their relationship means. If anything Dina should be the one who worries about their relationship and ellie should just be focused on her mission because she knows dina has been with Jesse already and there's no telling if they have feelings for each other still. Ellie should just brush her off. Dina is just all over the place because her and jesse were off and on again in their relationship. You mean to tell me that in the 6 years that they known each other dina never got with any other girl. She just magically had feelings for ellie. Ellie's dialogue doesn't really match with her thoughts. Too uplifting, reminds me of the first one which should be totally different from this one. The characters talk about too many things from the first one. Ellie isn't cold hearted enough in some sequences where you think she would be. Ellie's interrogation scene reminds you of Joel's which you wouldn't want. You would want something more brutal. Trying too hard to make Dina important. Reason for Joel's death could have been better. Feel like they just threw in the story of her being at the hospital just to justify her reason but I would believe a bunch of fireflies trying to save the world wouldn't let anybody bring kids. You can't really feel sorry for any of abby's friends or father. Trying too hard to really make abby a likable character which truly is so bad. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a technical and gameplay tour-de-force. The graphics are stupendous, the sound design amazing, and the mechanics, while an evolution of previous Naughty Dog games are a big leap forward in variety and fluidity.

The story is...complicated. And probably will leave you less than satisfied at first. But it is much deeper than many initial impressions and reviewers give it credit for. Personally, I don't think the developers were always successful in putting the player in the emotional spot that they wanted them and that caused some dissonance and probably poor reviews from some players. Two days after finishing, I'm still processing things. The game certainly doesn't end in a way that brings satisfaction to the player, but it does end in a way that closes the story and makes the point it is trying to make.

Kudos to Naughty Dog for putting out another intense, immersive, and utterly gorgeous game experience that took risks and pushed the player to look beyond themselves and into themselves to question what they find there.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Cmon, what's wrong with you all - you may not like the events story consists of but that doesn't mean it's horrible in itself. It gave 10x much emotions than all the games for the previous couple of years. Ignore the gorgeous graphics etc, it's the story that drives here. Forget 5/5 to God of War, it's a child fairytale compared to this. Personally I wouldn't prefer the same roadtrip as the first TLOU, it just wouldn't have triggerred the same fellings again. And I glad we had that Cal level with the final fight, it still feels you defeated Abby and revenged Joel, no need to kill her as it's Ellie who decided not to. Try to play part 1 and you'll notice gameplay evolutionized a lot (crafting in the 1st was better for me though). Playing Abby punching Ellie feels disgusting, but I suppose that's what Druckmann wanted us to feel, it simply tightens our connection to the characters (well, one of them). For me the game overshadowed even TW3 I love so much. Let's be honest, none of the recent titles caused so much of emotions. A true masterpiece, can't stop thinking of it, but hoping for a more sunny part 3 :) Expand

Ellie's overall story arch is really sad and conflicting, how she realizes by the end that she lost everything she once had from the beginning of the game, but didn't quite appreciate especially her relationship with Joel.
this game wants to be hated for sure at some points, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad one.
great improvement in terms of gameplay, animations and graphics, that puts it at an 8 for me, but thats just like my opinion afterall.

Game becomes repetitive over time and eventually boring. Not to mention that you don’t even play as Joel through the whole game. If anyone enjoyed the first game was because of him and his story. This game had so much potential only to disappoint. Other than that graphics are amazing and combat somewhat. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The gameplay is the only reason this game gets a rating higher than 1. There is no character development for the new characters and the ending is horrible. You play as Abby for ten hours which is way too long and Joel gets tortured to death in the first two hours of the game. The plot is a generic revenge is bad lesson. The game should not be as long as 20 hours, the first game wasn’t near as long and it was perfect. ND tries to make you feel sympathy for Abby by revealing the surgeon from the first game as her father but it fails miserably. After you are done traveling 12 hours as Ellie to find Abby in Santa Barbara you don’t even kill her, that would have been the perfect moment for a choice. When Ellie arrives back at the farm every one has left which makes the entire story pointless. They could have made the game so much better if they made Tommy die and Joel travels with Ellie for vengeance. At the end they confront Tommy’s killer and the killer shoots at Ellie but Joel jumps in front of Ellie takes the bullet and shoots the killer. Joel’s last dying breath would be I’m sorry and Ellie would say I forgive you, (this is referencing the hospital). When Ellie arrives in Jackson everyone there is infected and Ellie has to kill everybody she once called family. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a MUST play video game, it is technically perfect, visually stunning, the sound was breathtaking, music just right, and one of the best stories I have ever played.

Yes, this is not the popular opinion, and yes, the game is very polarizing, but yourself a favor and just play the game and build your own opinion as to if you're trying to decide if you want to get the game based on user reviews do it based on those that have substance and actual arguments, most of the ones that say the story is trash or bad written can't actually make any solid argument other than I was forced to play as Abby, or they dishonored the original game story and characters.

So now to not mimic all those reviews I am going to tell you why the story is a masterpiece, obviously, I can't do that without spoilers, so if you don't want spoilers this is the time to turn away.

I'm going to start with the fact (yes it is a fact and not an opinion) that not everything you don't like is trash, you're entitled to enjoy what you do regardless of what the majority of the audience says and there are masterpieces out there of every kind that you're not obligated to like. being that said this game has a plot about revenge, however, the story goes about breaking the violence spiral, you lose everything if you do not, and both main characters are about that.

If you watch Abby's story without knowing the events of TLoU Part 1 or are objective enough to see her side of the story on her shoes, you would realize that at the moment of meeting Joel and actually killing him, Abby was at the same place you as a player and Ellie as a character was at the time Ellie decides that she must kill every last one of them, that makes Abby's character about as rich as Ellie's and is masterfully done.

The death of Joel was a catalyst and such a strong driver for the story, it makes Ellie embark on this quest and finally save Ellie, who's lost everything, Joel, Jackson Group, Dina and even the last 2 things that connected her to her parent figures, her mom's knife at the beach in the fight with Abby and in the same fight the ability to play the guitar which was her last connection to Joel, but she regains her humanity which makes Joel's death worth it and not be for nothing.

One last thing I can say is that this is a game ahead of its time and a lot of people will grow to like it many years from now when this type of hyper mature story will be more popular in this fairly young storytelling medium. What a letdown,
I don't think that I can add anything that wasn't already said why this game doesn't work as sequel to the Last of Us.
Other then the graphics which are seriously astonishing, I can't say much of a positive to anything. The length of the game is also problem, it overstays it's welcome, story I don't even want to open this Pandora's box, but in short it is as terrible.

Gameplay wise it is just the Last of Us with smoother animations and ability to dodge upcoming attacks, so nothing special.
I wouldn't be as harsh as many people are that the game is 0/10, no game is that bad, maybe some terrible iOS/Android game for kids is really 0/10 but not this one, I would give it like 5/10 but I can also be hypocrite like a lot of reviewers that gave this game 10/10 even though they mentioned many times in the review they didn't like this or that.
So 0/10 is I think fair score for this game.
Really don't understand what was the end goal for Naughty Dog here, seems like they took inspiration from SW: the Last Jedi, movie that subverted our expectations with no payoff, basically this is the same, the Last of Us 2 subverts our expectations with no payoff.

I honestly can't trust any critic giving this a 100 score because this is not a perfect game in any way. I also think the upgrading of weapons was made too long a process in this and was tedious to sit through over and over again.

The story itself isn't the best and is a little too on the nose at time as they try to shove the point down your throat, rather than letting the gamer get to the conclusions they want them to by themselves. I feel they might have been able to up the score of this game to a 6/7 if they had did a better job with the games timeline. Some of the choices they made confused me quite a lot. This would have worked better if they had chopped and changed the timeline. Overall I didn't love the story, I felt the pacing was off as you played due to decisions they made, the ending (whilst it left me an emotional, crying mess) was bitterly disappointing and left me feeling numb about the whole thing. You can kind of see what they were going for but it didn't land at all given the decisions they made of when characters would be introduced. At about the 50% mark you reach a point where you are suddenly just trying to get through a part of the game, not really caring or paying attention to what is going on as you work to get back to a part you care even 2% about. Just overall not a game I can say I enjoyed playing.

The game is a true experience. Through both narrative and gameplay, it purposefully utilises the player's emotions. It is a gritty, dark and bleak story with very little room to breathe and a true horror game. Some parts do drag a little, especially when there are several open areas one after another, but it doesn't take anything away from the feelings it brings.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I finished the game last night and went to sleep crying... It feels like I lost someone very close to me! I get why some people may dislike the game. Seeing someone you've learnt to love and care about dying like that, then playing as the killer and seeing the other side can be tough. But for me this has brought so much depth to the story! Naughty Dog has shown the true meaning of the sentence "every villain is a hero of their own story", and I think it was brilliant and very brave. I'm heartbroken, and I wish things were different for Ellie and Joel, but the world can be really cruel, and we have to understand that. The last flashback hit me pretty hard! At that very moment you realise Ellie hated herself for not forgiving Joel in life, and seeking revenge so blindly was a way of suppressing the feeling, because dealing with it would hurt so badly. The message is pretty clear here!
As I said, I get why people may dislike the way things happened, but I can't understand all the hate! The game has so much to offer whether you like the story or not. You can argue whether it deserves or not a 10/10, but It definitely does not deserve a 0/10.

I did not see any spoilers because it would be shame to do so as a true fan of TLOU part 1 which will stay in my heart forever. Everything we were supposed to feel as a player in first game was concentrated about love - story was told in a way to guide us into fall in love to each of the characters we were meant to play. In second one it was done the same way but instead of love we were meant to feel hate. Hate to each one of main characters we played and saw in part 2. Because i hated every character through playthrough, starting from soft and completely different Joel then we used to know going to Abby which motivations were justified (which i really hated that it was justified for her to kill him) ending on Ellie which decisions led her to lose everything she loved and her sweet pugnacious side of her character which we all loved in part 1. It was devastating to see how those characters evolved because of brutal Joel's death. What i loved about this game is exactly the same thing i loved about part 1. Emotions, tones of them which i felt when i played it from beginning to the end. Joel's death, swarm attack of infected on Abby in early first part of the game, that fear those characters felt, i felt it too along with excitement. Game was exhausting to play as her later in the game, hunting for Ellie as Abby made me feel inside really strong rejection. And the ending... i stopped there for a moment after i saw it and asked myself, what would i do in both places of Abby and Ellie if i was put in the same situation as they were. Would i kill Abby, would i let her go? Would i kill Joel for what he done to me, would i let him live? When i ended the game i felt completely drained and tired same as sad. Firstly i was angry, really angry and sad about what happened, how the story was told... but when dust fell down on the floor and some time has passed i realized that part 2 made me feel impressive amount of emotions same as part 1 but in completely different way. I felt anger, i felt hate, i felt sadness, i wanted to get revenge for what happened, i wanted to jump on screen and wipe them all out in one second in much worse way then Joel died, i wanted to break something, i wanted to rip something apart. But i couldn't, instead of it i was forced to play as Abby, learn her motives, i was forced to even put a smile or two while i played her and then right after one smile my memories went back to the moment of who she is for me and then i felt disgusted. Was it bad that i felt it? No. It was excellent to be fully engaged emotionally in the story because it is unique in games industry to feel such engagement in play. This is why i gave it 10/10 experience. Im just the guy that was able to look at whole picture after some time has passed. I am definitely going to play this again no matter of it's imperfections. Joel's death is not a reason to call it a poor story, it's just something that many people can't and will never accept because they wanted more of the story that was concentrated about love between him and Ellie. They get something else, something which for many may stay as unacceptable and bad storytelling. I disagree with that opinion it was as good experience as first game but in different way Expand

Naughty Dog!

The problem it's not that they killed Joel, but how they did it. The story tries to tell you a story that just doesn't work,The way that the game just ****s on Ellie just makes it worse, Abby gets everything she wants, but Ellie loses everything.
I really don't know what the director and writer of the game was thinking
What a way to **** on the people that waited 7 years for this game

I know there's alot of controversy surrounding this game but if you play with no knowledge of leaks or other review bombers opinions and jump in blind, it's a perfect game. I do believe this game is wrongly reviewed a 5.0. The score has been going up quick due to people actually playing this game for themselves. None of the leaks or opinions of the negative reviews made sense to me while playing. I never once seen any problems with political pushes, LGBTQ+ representation, and I also haven't seen a problem with religion. BUT the only reason I do not give this a 10/10 is due to some part of the story. I won't spoil anything in this review Because I've had it spoiled for me and it effected the fun I had slightly. Some parts of the story just seem out of order sometimes. Nothing that really bothers me or effects the game or story, but it just had some weird choices on certain events and when they happen. But overall this game is an amazing experience everyone should try before reviewing. If your someone who is debating on this game, I would say if you played and enjoyed the first game, play this one. Like seriously this game is hugely underrated. You'll kick yourself in the ass for agreeing with review bombers. And most people are forgetting. There's is a multiplayer coming out in the future. It looks cool. Expand

Undoubtedly a gorgeous game with a lot of care and detail although not many improvements in gameplay or overall vs the 1st one and the story is just not good, not well written, destroying the legacy of what we liked about its predecesor and just not enjoyable. Its a real shame how those decisions spoiled such a beautiful game with so much potential.

I've never felt the way this game made me feel. Shame, guilt, hatred. To get me to empathise with someone I utterly despised at the beginning of the game is an unbelievable feat and I thought the way it dealt with grief and the complexity of human interaction was fantastic.

The Last Of Us Part ll es hasta ahora el mejor juego de 2020, al menos para mí, sin embargo, admito una cosa, no está al nivel de su antecesor, pero vaya que por muy poco lo pudo haber alcanzado. Joel and Ellie Joel deserved more as the main character from the first game. 1Joel is not that dumb or trusting. Abbie or Debbie whatever her/his name is could not have taken him alone so they ambushed him. Again Joel wouldn’t have let that happen. Ellie was fine Abby is ridiculous and you can tell there is an SJW agenda thanks for ruining a beloved franchise. Hopefully the show is better!!! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. WOW just wow such a waste of a good game it had so much damn potential but sadly it didnt use it and neil isnt really helping it with his attitude but lets forget that here are my problems

one of the games selling points is a gay couple witch would be good IF it was just another thing dont act like its such a wow thing treat it like an everyday thing we wanna normalize that not make it a selling point god damn and they call us all the words that end with phobe ..

the game alone would be a ..8? idk however.. IT ISNT its a follow up A SEQUEL in a sequel you continue the universe IF the fans are playing for the universe in the last of us 1 they didnt it was a good one but THE GAME ISNT PLAYER FOR THE UNIVERSE its played for the character joel and ellie not extra buff abbie witch isnt a bad character she is just realy really really pathetic compared to ellie and lets accept it the game without joel isnt that fun you know it i know it ULESS they do something good with ellie like they did in the walking dead with clem and lee i think was his name
so killing him off without even abusing him is a waste now by abbuse i mean put the flashbacks first so we get really attached and then kill him so we will feel just pure anger and play trough the game just to kill abbie witch seemed like what you wanted to go for and kill her at the end witch did no happen sadly

another really really really really dumb thing and i mean REALLY dumb is that the tale is about how revenge is bad however what did abbie lose? since ellie lost literaly everything and abbie lost .. a few friends? shes a psycho so doubt she cares since ellie still has ptsd from seeing joel and i repeat SEEING joel die while she does not feel nothing at all i get he kills her father but so did she did to ellie .Joel was a father figgure to her so the least she could have at the ending killed her too and then killed lev ended the cycle of revenge got a good ending and giving us what we wanted i COULD NOT care less about abby and lev sincerly and not because lev is trans since that is what most "game journalists" use as an argument just that we already got a joel and ellie and we dont need a replacement at least we didnt need one if this game was good witch it isnt and killed him in such a pathetic way . at the start i saw what they were going for her father being killed in front of her with her powerless witch was pure genius ON ITS OWN i must say if they did things corectly before and then had a cool journey driven purely by revenge and hate witch wouldve been nice but it isnt she still feels remorse witch is human but badly executed because of abby witch feels nothing and it makes the main character for most of us witch is ellie feels so weak and pathetic wtich sincerly does not help the bad writing like at the start joel running in a place full of strangers and straight up telling his name after all that he has done a lot of people say that he had it coming THEN **** EXPECT IT TO HAVE IT COMING dont act like youre all safe in jackson cuz guess what he never was also do they seriously think all of the fireflies were just that little hospital when AT THE START of the game they assaulted a fully armed CITY of damn military soldiers and youre telling me just cause he killed max 100 fireflies they all dissapeard like .. wtf??? im confused do they seriously think they cant just attack jackson its big dont get me wrong it just isnt that big and fireflies were all over the country so i doubt they would even stand a chance so then they could make a game about beating the odds and defending jackson finding new guns recruiting you get what i mean witch would make it amaizing like god tier on my list but then they made this ... thing witch is just a plot writted on lazy writing and another thing before i finish why would you in gods name make me play as abby AFTER YOU killed joel do you really expect me to have any simpathy for her? like srsly what the actual **** after i heard its 10 hours of abby gameplay i quit the game but after a week i came back hoping i could forget about joel but guess what ? i could not and abby felt so damn boring and ... annoying the only fun thing was getting all her death screens witch was actualy way more fun than the actual story witch is quite pathetic like just kill her off at the end or something i already could not care less but then you make your story dumber by the ending trying to prove that revenge is bad by letting the one who started it leave almost unscathed with a fresh new start with lev and ellie the one who stopped it rejected by tommie probably and by her gf and probably child so ... idk about that but i lost all hope for naughty dog and neil **** and when i think of tlou. one of the best game of the decade i hopefully will forget about this hot buring piece of garbage witch is this game ty if you read it hole and if you have not bought the game then do not bother and gg gamers cya

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a piece of art. And art is not supposed to make you feel comfortable. It is supposed to have a message that is worthwhile telling. This game is a masterpiece. I say that as a fan and as a trained peace mediator. The game deals with the circle of violence and shows an realistic picture of how grief, PTSD and empathy work. It delivers a message, I always graved for people to hear. And it delivers it in a way, that is so powerful. The fact that so many people complain about it shows that it was necessary to make it. A lot of important art got a lot of backlash at the time. I believe that the haters are on the wrong side of history here.
I was horrified, when Joel died. But I was also proud, that Naughty Dog hat the courage to do it. I am so disappointed with a lot of Pop culture that are afraid to take a bold step like that. And in my opinion, it was the only logical thing to do. If they spared him, their message would have lost its impact and it would have resulted in a mediocre story and a big case of whateverism. If they went for fan service, I would forget it in a year. But now, I will always remember it. This game triggered so many different feelings in me and just hit the mark completely. I don't think, I can describe the value it had for me. Every second of it was perfect.
Thank you Neil and Naughty Dog for creating a game, that was not just fun but also had artistic value like no other!

As someone who played Part I more than 100 times my expectations for The Last of Us Part II were really high. Especially after all these years of waiting. After playing through Part II for the third time, I'm happy to say that my expectations were even exceeded in a lot of ways. But of course there are some aspects that could have been improved

    PRO
+ Graphics: Keep in mind that this game is running on really old hardware (even on the PRO). And it simply looks amazing. Kudos to Naughty Dog for this level of quality. I can not wait to see this game on PS5.
+ Animation: I have never played a game with such high-quality animations. This also has a huge impact in terms of gameplay
+ Gameplay: I already liked the Gameplay Naughty Dog delivered in Part I. Of course Naughty Dog does not reinvent the wheel in this category ("simply" stealth, shooting, dodging etc.). But the gameplay simply feels absolute right. And compared to Part I it is a really perfect evolution that stays true to the original game. And the animation does the rest. They way you feel the character is simply amazing. Hitting stuff, getting hit, dodging etc. is more than impressive.
+ Atmosphere: In Part I I always loved the atmosphere. You had moments where everything was quite and beautiful. 5 seconds later infected would swarm you and you had to fight for your life. And Part II even delivered in this category. Infected (especially Clickers) sound creepy as hell Same goes for the whistling of the Seraphites.
+ Audio: I would not call me an audiophile. But audio quality is always important to me. I am currently running a 7.2.6 setup. Unfortunately the game does not have support for stuff like Atmos or DTS:X. Which is why I am using Auro3D to upmix the 7.1 LPCM Signal. And the game simply sounds fantastic. Even without the Auromatic. This is another important factor why the atmosphere in this game is so good.
+ Story: A lot of people criticize the story for "ruining the characters" and "creating plot holes". I can not agree with that. It simply is not true, but I do not want to spoil the story for you. To understand the story of Part II you really need to understand what is happening in Part I. Then you have think about what is happening in Part II and why it is happening. This is really important. Otherwise you won't be able to understand the whole story. To quote David from Part I: "Everything happens for a reason". The game really had a lot of moments where the controller felt so heavy in my hands. One thing I have to add: Joel also followed Henry and Sam in Part I after they invited Joel and Ellie to follow them.
+ Accessibility: Luckily I do not need to use these features. But I know people who need them. And Naughty Dog did a really awesome job with these settings.
+ Soundtrack: Gustavo Santaolalla created another absolut fantastic soundtrack for this game. Especially these: Unbroken, Collateral, Beyond Desolation are fantastic. But: Part I had a few more memorable soundtracks.
+ AI Improvements: This was really important to me. The AI in Part I really was not that smart. With Part II Naughty Dog improved this a lot. This goes for your enemies as well as for your ally's.
+ Performance of the actors. I guess this is self-explanatory

    Not great, not terrible:
o Seattle feels pretty monotonous from time to time. Not because everything looks the same. But in Part I you had more, completely different areas. Luckily we got a bit more variety during the last few hours.
o Too much film grain. I understand why film grain is there. But I never like it. Usually games have a slider to turn film grain down or even off. Part II does not have such an option. The only way to get rid of the film grain is during photo mode. And Part II looks so much better without it.
o You are not able to disable the listening mode. In part I it worked
o No way to re-watch cut-scenes in the menu.

    Con:
    - You still can not crouch-sprint. I could swear I have seen this in Part II promo material. But maybe I am wrong. But for some reason I expected to be able to crouch-sprint. For Part I Naughty Dog removed that function after showing it in early gameplay.
    - At some points the AI is a bit too unfair while playing on survivor. Do not get me wrong. I know that the game is supposed to be really hard on this difficulty. But it simply is not cool if you are sneaking through an entire area and suddenly you get detected without an enemie being anywhere close to you. Sometimes I even have the feeling that clickers are able to see my flashlight even though the game claims that infected are not able to see it.

That pretty much sums up my pros, "not great, not terrible" and cons. In the end I would give Part II a really good 9.6. Since Metacritic does not allow this score for user-reviews I have to round this number up to 10.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
