This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Playing this game I had high expectations, and despite what the vast majority of user scores will tell you, it was succeeded. This game is all about death, hatred, and above all revenge, and it has a lot to say about these themes.

Watching Ellie on her never-ending pursuit to avenge Joel and the things she did in order to achieve this, it was to put it simply brutal. Around the halfway point, when Ellie killed Nora who was just trying to protect her friend, I found myself unclear of what side I should be on if any. As for the ending, where Ellie decides to spare Abby even after everything, as much as people say it's anticlimactic, I understood why, and I felt an immense amount of sympathy and love for her as I watched her cry blood-soaked in the ocean.

In a world where society has little to no traces of civilization left, one can either submit to hatred and violence, or fight it. In this story, we watch Ellie submitting to her anger again and again and again, and seeing her eventually show humanity to Abby who despite the horrific things she did is just trying to save her colleague. It was immensely emotional, but also immensely cathartic. The ending doesn't show what happens to Ellie after, but its an unsaid understanding that the rest of her life will be focused on redemption and acceptance.

I think this review in particular sums up my thoughts on this pretty well: https://collider.com/last-of-us-2-ending-explained/

The Last of Us Part II is a dark, brutal, depressing, and intense ride. From the get-go, you are thrown right into the fray with hardly any time to catch your breath. The Last of Us Part II is a dark, brutal, depressing, and intense ride. From the get-go, you are thrown right into the fray with hardly any time to catch your breath. I fully believe that if you want the best possible experience, it’s an absolute must to play through on Survivor. With that said, let’s dig right in.

What I enjoyed the most was the gameplay. If you play on Survivor; patience, resource management, and planning are critical. Going into each encounter with guns blazing might leave you in a bad spot in the next encounters, so you’re forced to think about how you want to take on each fight, how much resources you’re willing to spend, and utilize the environment to your advantage. Do you want to be stealthy, use your weapons at your disposal, a mixture of both, or simply avoid fighting altogether? That choice is up to you, but again, there are considerations you’ll have to make. The tension you’ll feel in each encounter will make you appreciate that momentary respite when you make it through, and gives you some time to breathe and prepare. I may be in the minority when I say I enjoyed the story despite being controversial amongst critics. I appreciate Naughty Dog’s willingness to tell a story that isn’t simply black or white. What their tale does explore is the gray area, the area that is neither right nor wrong, difficult to judge, and does not have a clear and definitive answer. It was a risk the developers took, one that many people either hate or love, but I believe it paid off in the end.

My one critique of this game is that, although I do very much enjoy the gameplay, it will feel repetitive not very long into the journey. Once you’ve seen one fight, you’ve basically seen them all with some very small variations. If Naughty Dog would have thrown in curveballs and different mechanics to deal with as you progressed, I think it could have kept things fresh and provide some really unique battles.

The bottom line is, The Last of Us Part II is a fantastic game. The world and atmosphere is beautifully crafted, and each struggle will leave you triumphant. It very much deserves your attention and play through, and so I highly recommend The Last of Us Part II.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is dumbfounding to me that people see Joel as a hero. He murdered all those fireflies and the one doctor that we know of that could potentially make a cure, all to selfishly save Ellie who didn't even have a say in it. And he lied to her about what happened and permanently damaged their relationship. The whole point this game is making is that violence begets violence and Abbie's revenge on Joel seems justified, just as Ellie's revenge on Abby seems justified. But as the body count gets higher and Abby loses all her friends after seeking vengeance, the message that "violence isn't the answer" becomes clear to anybody who can consume a story properly. There are definitely some huge problems with pacing, especially in the beginning and the second half with all the flashbacks. The ending was perfect, Ellie broke the cycle of violence but it was already too late and Dina had left. And her leaving Joel's guitar behind was symbolic of leaving behind the violent ruthless tendencies she learned from him. She broke the cycle. Watch American History X if you want a story with the same ending where the character that redeems themself still dies in the end because of the cyclical nature of violence and vengeance. Expand

Seeing a lot of hate for the story, yes it may not have been to everyones taste but, I thought it was good. However, i dont think it was perfect or close to it for that matter but, i dont think it is as bad as people make out. I do think it couldve been polished more (story wise). The ending was not satisfying for me, lacked any closure, perhaps thats what they wanted, who knows. Nevertheless, story aside, the gameplay was amazing and captivating. The graphics are outstanding. The sounds and music are brilliant. Finally, the animation and the acting are amazing for a game, felt like watching a movie. Everything else 10/10

So i will give it an 9, if the story had the extra satisfaction it would be a 10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first thing you need to understand is that I only just played through both the first game (Remastered) and the 2nd game for the first time back to back this month with the launch of the PS5 (Yes, I was able to preorder one when they went live in September and I got the digital edition console on November 12th). I Played through Part I through the PS+ collection and I bought Part II for half price during the Black Friday sales on the PlayStation store.

Unlike the vast majority of the people who posted their 1/10 reviews 2 hours after the game came out because they (SPOILER ALERT!) killed off Joel very early on and couldn't be bothered to play the rest to actually find out why she killed him. I actually just finished playing through Part II from beginning to end. I went into both games completely blind apart from a few key details I already knew due to how much of a phenomenon they became. For example, I already knew that Ellie was immune going into the 1st game and I already knew that Joel dies in the Part II due to the leaks earlier in the year before the game released.

First, my brief thoughts on the 1st game... absolutely loved it overall. I loved the dynamic between Joel and Ellie, the story was fantastic and the gameplay was solid. I would give it a solid 8/10.

Now for Part II. First, I would like to tell you what I loved about the game. The music was incredible. The graphics were some of the best I have ever seen, the voice acting and the mo-cap was award worthy, which is great because both Ashley Johnson and Laura Bailey were both nominated for The Game Awards and they are both totally deserving. The flashback with Joel and Ellie in the dinosaur/space museum was my favourite part of the game. I know some people hated her, but I loved the character of Abby. Her killing Joel because he was the one who killed her father, the man... the Dr. that was going to do the surgery on Ellie to create a vaccine for the virus was absolutely genius in my opinion. The gameplay was better and more refined than the 1st game. I also do not have a problem with how Abby killed Joel considering what Joel did to her family, that being her dad and the rest of the Fireflies. Honestly, what she did to Joel reminded me of What Negan did to Glenn and Abraham on the Walking Dead. He killed two beloved characters on that show, but prior to that, Rick and his group sneaked into one of Negan's bases in the middle of the night and murdered everyone in there IN THEIR SLEEP! If I was Negan or Abby in their situation, I probably would have done the same thing. I think the only reason that people had a problem with it is because of her gender and how she looked. She did not look like a typical female because she was ripped. What the **** is wrong with that? If you were living in a post-apocalyptic world with barely any food and constantly walking around, travelling and killing infected, I bet you would get a little jacked over time too.

The game itself, because of the story and how it is played out is very depressing and difficult to play at times (especially having to kill dogs, that was not pleasant). This certainly was not a fun family game to play like Mario or even the Uncharted series, also from Naughty Dog, but because of how good the story, characters and gameplay were, it kept me invested and motivated to finish it.

The only thing I would say I didn't like about the game was the ending. Firstly, it dragged on for way too long (bit like the 3rd Lord of the Rings movie) and also, Ellie left her wife (I assume Dina was her wife by that point) and child (technically not her biological child but whatever) behind to pursue and end things with Abby, and she ultimately just lets her go. That made no sense to me, but hey, maybe that was a setup for Part III, who knows.

I also, unlike many other people who played this game, am not so insecure in my own self, in that I have absolutely no problem whatsoever with Ellie's romantic relationship with Dina. I think it was very well written and acted, especially the joke where Dina tells Ellie she is pregnant and says "Don't worry, it;s not yours". I know plenty of people in my own personal life who are gay or lesbian and it does not bother me in the slightest. Anybody who says that Naughty Dog or other companies like Lucasfilm for example have no interest in making good content and only care about pushing and SJW narrative should rally be left to turn into infected.

In conclusion, I actually liked this game a tad more than the 1st one. If it wasn't for the ending, I would give it a perfect 10, but my rating is a 9/10. Absolutely phenomenal game. Naughty Dog truly are one of the best in the business and I cannot wait to see what they can do with the hardware of the PS5. Playing through both games back to back within a week was a surreal experience, but I am so glad that I finally did it. I will be absolutely shocked if this game does not win Game of the Year.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A technical masterpiece with a complex, mature story.

    - It's hard to look, and play, this game without thinking that it shouldn't be possible on 7 year-old hardware

    - The story kicks off with an unspeakable act that drives you to pursue revenge - no matter the cost

    - Throughout your journey you lose those closest to you because they cannot understand or share in your hatred and relentless pursuit of vengeance

    - Only when faced with performing an unspeakable act of your own do you reflect and wonder, "Was it worth it?"

Some people may be disappointed that they don't get the revenge they were desperately hoping for but, IMO, that would have been a bad, generic story that betrays its characters and our understanding of them.

The only thing keeping me from calling this a 10/10 are a few, very minor, gameplay decisions that add up to the loss of a single(meaningless) point.

The level design is fantastic, with large areas and different paths that give you a lot of variety in the approach of the enemies and exploration.

The experience is one I can recommend anyone without a second thought. Rated it 9 because of not being convinced of the narrative and pacing overall, and so can't justifiably rate it a 10 for now at least. Make no mistake though, the narrative is still one of the best

Lets start with the pros first...

    1. The visuals in this game and the attention to detail is just incredible. I can clearly see that the Dev's at Naughty Dog put a lot of painstaking work into perfecting this department. The atmosphere man... it nails it. I really felt like i was in the world.
    2. The sound and music is fantastic again. The way the every weapon and guns sound has a lot of oomph. The music that plays during quieter and tense combat scenes is better than the original.
    3. Main characters, other secondary NPC facial and movement animations are also very very realistic.
    4. The length of the game is a huge plus.
    5. Enemy AI and stealth is very good. Killing enemies in a gory fashion is really enjoyable, more so than any other game i have played in the recent past. It reminded me of Splinter cell Chaos theory for some reason but on steroids!!!
    6. No BS micro transactions!!!
    7. I really liked the characters in this game. Some may not be completely fleshed out as other Naughty Dog games. But they really tried their best and took a Hugh risk which i think payed off to some extent.

Now, lets get to the cons..

    1. The story is a big let down. I understand that The story and the characters in it belong to Naughty Dog and they are following their vision. But still it stings a little.
    2. Stealth encounters can be a bit repetitive.
    3. Pacing is not good. Some sections of the game experience down time but its not much.
    4. Game is bit easy even while playing on hard mode. Especially the stealth sections.

Verdict: Overall, the Last of Us 2 as a Whole is Greater than the Sum of its Parts. I thoroughly enjoyed my time playing this game and highly appreciate the artistry of what Naughty Dog has created here. The Story and these characters were created by Naughty Dog so, its their right to do what they please with them. They took a risk with the story but it did not pay off to an extent. Writing a story is not an easy job. I though the Last of Us Part 1 was a 10 but I am going to give this game a solid 9.

The story is fine. Yes it may not be as good as the first one but that does not make the game any less worthy of praise. The gameplay is immaculate, the graphical attention to detail is stunning and the inclusion of more semi-open world areas (from the uncharted format) really compliment part 2 of this game series. This sequel is more like a survival game than the continuity of the first one. It's less a Naughty Dogs narrative game, and more a video game. And i think this is the way it should be, like the path they took for The Lost Legacy.
Perhaps the story is not very interesting between the two girls.
P.s. those who put a 0/10 are so retarded.

While it doesn't add much when it comes to gameplay, the story unfolds in a deeply emotional journey for every character involved. Rarely has a game dared to go this far to tell the story it wants to tell and if you let yourself accept how cruel the world of The Last of Us truly is, you will see this game for what it is: a storytelling masterpiece with fun gameplay.

It took me a while to post the review, as I didn't want to do so without actually playing it first (shocker). I am a huge TLoU fan, so between trying to dodge spoilers and hearing snippets of the controversy, I was nervous about what awaited me. Having finished the game, I personally find the review-bashing to be a vast overreaction from a mixture of immature, entitled superfans and garden variety homophobes, neither of which are worth your time and attention.

Here's my attempt at a calmer response:

The two biggest criticisms I heard about this game is that it was comparable to the Skywalker Trilogy/Game of Thrones (underdeveloped and disrespectful to character arcs) or that it's pushing some kind of extreme SJW agenda. Neither is true.

To the first point, I would compare it to what the final season of GoT would have been if they kept the controversial character decisions, but actually spent the time and attention necessary to flesh them out. People will still be mad at seeing a character not act the way they wished, but it was well-supported thematically. In particular, I find the anger regarding the ending to be downright puzzling, as it is the natural conclusion to motifs the story had been hitting you over the head with since the first act. I do agree that some characters' final decisions could have proved more nuanced if supported by an additional plot device or few lines of dialogues, but the environmental storytelling did a good enough job of explaining why the characters did what they did. As I tell my lit students when they read Invisible Man... you don't have to approve of a character's decisions to appreciate the author's intent.

As for the SJW claim, this game is a great example of why the LGBT community just can't win in the world of narrative depiction. The extent of the "pushy" nature of these characters is that they exist. Yes, there is a lesbian and a bisexual character. They are in a relationship. That relationship impacts character motivations and development throughout the game... you know, like every straight character since the bloody Gilgamesh.

There is also a transgender character. He commits the terrible internet crime of telling the protagonist that he's transgender once. It's why he's being persecuted by his people, and he doesn't like to talk about it much. Other than that, he's just a character. Oh, and the far-left decided to join the mob because he is dead-named against his will... kind of like transgender people are all the time. So he gets to be a lightning rod of controversy because he is openly trans but not openly trans enough, but also too openly trans, but also too tragic, but also daring to acknowledge tragedies that people like him face every day. And did I mention that he exists? Shame.

Preachiness aside, there are some easily identifiable highs and lows. The action is smooth, the voice acting is phenomenal, there are some absolutely gang-buster character-building scenes (shout out to the museum sequence), they did a great job of world-building a city despite the game's linearity (a la FFVII remake), there's a nice mix of horror and peacefulness, and you can pet the doggo.

A lot of the criticisms people bring up are quite legitimate... it's just ridiculous to think that they merit 0-bombing the metascore. For instance, pretty much everyone agrees that the pacing is a problem, particularly in regards to their treatment of the protagonist/antagonist dichotomy... it switches PoV at an awkward time, and should have mixed the narratives more consistently in order to avoid the cognitive dissonance given when the game tries to make you sympathize with the "villain." Likewise, most people agree they failed to actually make you sympathize with the "villain" because of an underdeveloped backstory/tragedy and an underdeveloped impetus for their later attempts to blur the hero/villain line. It also makes you do actions against people you have grown to love, which is uncomfortable to say the least (though at least interesting/unique as a mechanic aligned with the central themes). Plus, it makes you kill the doggo. Boo.

But you don't actually have to like the villain to appreciate the plot... it's enough to show that heroes and villains are imperfect, both have their own PoV, and the apocalypse isn't allowed a Marvel-esque good/evil dichotomy. You can definitely hate the villain at the end... it's still narratively effective.

My final thought about the flaws in this game is that they are vastly outshined by its moments of brilliance. To say they earn it a 0 would be comparable to saying Breath of the Wild deserves a 0 and a series cancellation because no one likes weapon durability. Bull-honky. The game is fun, well-developed, and at least has the cajones to take risks... like them or not.

Story: Divisive and emotional, like all good works of art are. The narrative shows that no one is neither good or bad, but capable of do good or bad.

Gameplay: A refinement of the original gameplay with good new mechanics, like the ability to dodge attacks with L1, an the ability to go prone, wich helps a lot in stealth sections.

Graphics: It makes me think I don't need a PS5 right now...

While it is a linear narrative game, as to be expected from ND, it took me on such a personal journey I haven't quite been able to get it out of my head after all these months. It is a lesson in empathy done in perhaps the most gruesome and hurtful way possible, because if it wasn't then it wouldn't hit you as hard as it should.

There are still glimpses of actual happiness full of charming dialogue, but I do seriously suggest you skip this if you're not in the best place in life. As for anyone that wants to see the continuation of Part 1 and are able to take a week off to emotionally recover once done, go ahead and brace yourself.

And seeing all these salty streamers that have to react to cynical viewers and seem to struggle hiding and processing their real emotions and human feelings only makes me feel sorry for them. This game in terms of gameplay, graphics, level design, music and sounddesign etc, raises the bar for the industry. The story is so dark, hard and such an emotional rollercoaster, that it will leave you beaten and bruised by the end and gives you a lot to reflect about. Unlike what you might hear online, the story is VERY last of us. It just takes - maybe unexpected - themes and dynamics from the first game, and takes them to their logical conclusion. And seeing and playing this, will leave you feeling very uncomfortable, but that is a good thing. And people who make fun of these things, like streamers and youtubers, seem to do so, because they have some sort of persona to keep high and it’s easy to just join the meme outrage train. And the stuff in the story they seem to complain about, just makes them look like a bunch of pansies.
I’ll be honest, there are some moments that require you to suspend your disbelief, but it will cause an eye roll at best (if you can let that stuff go). But all and all, story wise, it might be up there with games like Read Dead (1&2), Nier: Automata and Spec-ops: the Line, probably exceeding that last one.
In any case, if you own a PS4, you owe it to yourself to at least give this a try. Streamers make money off of making cynical rage videos and take any opportunity to do so. Don’t let that ruin the fun for you. And again, I feel sorry for the people who didn’t enjoy this as much as I did, because I haven’t felt these emotions playing a videogame in a long, long time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I hope someone see this review amongst the insane barrage of hate surrounding this game. It would be too easy to say that all these folks are spamming zeroes because they have political agendas that rival this game's messages or that they simply did not understand the narrative. I assume the problem lies within the narrow vision through which players viewed it. Joel's death is something a lot of us expected but not in the way it's showcased here, just a mere 2 hours into the story. Let me debunk the reviews which are solely based on someone's anger about Joel's death. If you would have paid attention to the game, you would have realize that Naughty Dog spends the entire **** narrative trying to justify the choice to kill Joel off. The implications of the first game's ending are explored so deeply here, you cannot help yourself but feel for Ellie and her loss. But Abby's perspective is also explored. Those that complain about the message being too simple and overused, you forget that the first game was not complex at all, it held together the story with character chemistry and drama. "Revenge is bad" is such an oversight, it's actually insane how many adults describe this game that way. No story is original, it's borrowed from the past. No message is new, it's either old or revised to sound well for the new generations. This game presents its themes in a satisfying manner, not leaving anything out of the picture. There are many layers to the post-apocalyptic world shown in The Last of Us 2. Everyone's actions have consequences and everyone is flawed. This is truly gray morale, something that's missing from popular media nowadays. The ending is a bit long but it makes perfect sense within the context of the story. If not for false marketing and some weak side characters, this game would be a 10/10. Please, do yourself a favor and play this game. Keep an open mind and you will be satisfied. Expand

The game is a true experience. Through both narrative and gameplay, it purposefully utilises the player's emotions. It is a gritty, dark and bleak story with very little room to breathe and a true horror game. Some parts do drag a little, especially when there are several open areas one after another, but it doesn't take anything away from the feelings it brings.

If it disappoints you, I understand it.
If you love it, welcome to this great audio-visual work.

Part 2 is, above all, courage. Courage to do something that was not contemplated, something that would surprise again, and not what most of us expected.

    Part 1 changed the rules.
The second part does it again.

    Thank you, Naughty Dog.

*STORY: Peace is never lasting. And after a few years of tranquility established in a peaceful community, Joel and Ellie's lives are shaken by a violent event that will put the young woman on a quest for revenge.

Despite the mistakes Part 2 makes (irregular pace and hours of filling mostly), the story in Part 2 makes complete sense.
The ending is well-developed, but there is one particular moment that should have been mounted better.
Part 2 is the opposite of what the first one conveyed: Part 2 is sad, very sad.

*GAMEPLAY: Part 2 improves very positively the ganeplay of the first one, which was already quite good, but it still had things that could be improved or added and Part 2 does it in a fantastic way.

*GRAPHICS: Part 2 is a graphic and artistic beast. It's not the best graphics game on the market, but it's on the podium without a doubt.

*SOUND: Part 2 has an exquisite soundtrack, at the level of the first one or even better, since it's much more innovative than the first part, which could be too similar to each other.

*INNOVATION: Part 2 risks a lot. For some a success, for others a failure. Of course, it's fresh air despite being a second part.
We find new weapons, new objects, new enemies and, above all, a great new sequel.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I consider the 1st game one of the greatest ever made, after playing this game for 3 hours so far, i can see it being held in the same regard. The animations, the interactions, the art design and graphic fidelity, despite the 30 fps on ps4 pro, doesn't matter, coming from a high end pc gamer. This game is a masterpiece, i haven't played a game w/ this much detail before. I feel for the crunch the team who designed this must have gone through, but nonetheless, it is a milestone.

With that said, when i heard the game (through leaks and previews) would be focused around lesbian Ellie, and trans Abby - it felt like a let down. Not because I have an issue playing as a lesbian character as a white 40 something male, but because it feels like virtue signaling to shoehorn identity politics in to a video game. This is a bias on my part admittedly, but i can assure you as an open-minded, non partisan person, the games story is handled with grace, nothing is force fed down your throat; the relationship that Ellie has seems authentic and real, tasteful, and honestly her orientation comes up very minimally so far. Also, Abby is not trans, and even though she kills a beloved character, it honestly didn't bother me as once you get to play at her before she kills Joel, you are able to empathize with her character.

The game is great so far. This game, like the last, does feel harrowing at just about all times, and that is due to the investment you have with the characters through the excellent story telling; it make the stakes feel that much higher.

The review bombing is incredibly lame; but i am not surprised due to the enormous divide in this country. Hate on the game all that you want, but i assure you, you will be missing out on a huge achievement in video game play design, art direction and technological sophistication.

Only being a few hours in, I won't give it a 10 quite yet, but suspect it will be deserving of one when finished.

In story Ellie want to revenge death of someone really close to her,but in path of revenge there will happen good, but mainly bad things.Tlou 2 is telling story of 2 characters Ellie and unnamed character.
Second character will be main enemy in the eyes of the Ellie and in other characters, and you will play as her in more or less half of the game.Characters are really well done written, but sometimes when somebody dies you dont feel it so emotional (in 2 cases).Game will explain to you that nobody is white knight, and every body have a reason why they done some bad things.

Overall game is brutal and its trying to emotional break you.Sometimes game will order you to do some things which you really dont want to do (like killing someone),and sometimes characters will chose path you dont really want,BUT IT DOESNT MEAN THAT IS BAD WRITTEN .In the end you will find out that revenge cant be controlled, and it can destroy you.
This game is unique, and i respect every decision what Naughty Dog has made.

If you can handle emotional breaking story ,and play a game witch have better story than Holliwood films then i can for 100% recommend, this masterpiece.

    Shortly about different things:

    Graphics and design 10/10 :
Naughty Dog always made best looking games and its applied it on Tlou 2 too. This include face expression where is every detail there, and when it comes to some brutal things like in fighting but mainly on cutscenes, you will be shocked how detailed that is (for someone this might be too much).
Ambiance of the game is so stunning and sometimes you will stop and only look on incredible work.

    Soundtrack 10//10:
Soundtrack like in first one is indescribable.I must thank Gustavo Santaolalla for one of the best soundtracks ever (including in Part one).

    Sound design 10/10
There is not much to tell, its so much detailed and made well.

    AI: 9,5/10
Its scales in difficulty, but its stunning. You feel that every enemy have life and much less that he is some obstacle in game.Every enemy have name, and if they friends find him dead they, shout to him by his name, and act differently compered to different games. They will search for you every where and they will talk/helping to each other to find you. They are adding 2 group types of human enemies which one is stealthy and another is full of military arsenal including trained dogs. When it comes to mutated creatures (zombies),they are same ,only change is that they are adding some creatures including one which will be fight boss.

    Gameplay 9,5
Why to change something what is so good. Its same as first one ,but it have some changes like jump, crawl and dodge.Using guns and tools are great and every weapon or tool is unique and usable
    in some situations.

And to be honest, I really liked it. If you look at the majority of the negative reviews from this game, they were posted on June 19th, which is the day it came out. And for a game to take around 20-30 hours, I would go as far as to say that nobody actually played the game and only read the online leaks that were posted about a month prior. The leaks on their own sound pretty bad, and it does sound like lazy and awful writing, but in the context of the story, I promise you it makes perfect sense. The themes of the game is what make it so incredible, it's ultimately about how characters deal with grief, actually even part 1 was about dealing with grief, so anyone who says this game is untrue to the original, clearly hasn't played the game. Naughty dog take a very bold choice with the story and it really puts you into Ellie's mindset with the feeling of pure hatred, but the genius of it all is when they show you the other side to the story. This is when you start becoming conflicted and you actually start to empathise with people you really think you wouldn't. Personally I prefer the first game, but this wasn't a disappointment at all. The reason it's not a 10 for me is because of some pacing issues towards the middle of the game and I preferred the general story of the first game as that was near perfection. A great sequel from Naughty Dog and looking forward to what they next bring to the table. Expand

If you can keep an open mind and just enjoy the ride this game is one of the best experiences money can buy. If you can't get over your own arrogance as a consumer and fan, then you might struggle to enjoy a masterpiece because you invested too much in what you cannot control.

Anyone familiar with the first franchise entry won’t be surprised that The Last of Us Part II is not a game that’s going to leave you feeling upbeat and chipper. Make sure your emotional bank account is good and ready for the beating it’s about to take before jumping into this game.

Violence, drama, and more violence. That’s most of what this game is, but just like last time around, Naughty Dog doesn’t lean into violence for the sake of being violent. They use it to illustrate and enhance the intensity of a world turned completely upside down, and to take us on another journey through that bleak and brutal world.

The narrative is different this time around. We already know the world, we already know the infected, and we already know the original story of Joel and Ellie. Part II takes us on a continued, yet distinctly separate narrative journey. The Last of Us Part II deepens our relationship with Joel and Ellie while adding the emotional complexity of a new cast of characters. By design, the game shows a different side to the original story while also expanding into entirely new territory.

The chronological ordering (or lack there off) to how the story is told can be somewhat jarring at times. Ultimately though it does serve to make the narrative delivery more suspenseful and dramatic. Some of the flashback scenes felt a little slow compared to the pace of the rest of the game, but many of them did add useful layers of context and drama.

The mechanics are subtly but nicely improved over The Last of Us in nice ways. Dodging and evading feels like a more realistic way to engage in melee combat, sneaking is more nuanced now that you can go fully prone, and the ability to visibly listen to enemies takes time to improve. The gun mechanics leave a little bit to be desired, but the melee mechanics more than make up for any gaps. The brutality and fluidity with which you can mutilate just about anyone and everything is superb. And the accompanying graphics and audio couldn’t be more raw.

Overall, The Last of Us Part II leaves you never quite knowing how to feel. The weight of every major moment in the game is successively more and more heavy. It truly is a proper “Part 2”– the game picks up where the original left off, gives us more of we loved, but brings in enough “newness” in terms of narrative and the overall story to stay supremely compelling throughout the entire journey. If you want a game that will force you to feel something, The Last of Us Part II is a must play.

I'm not a fan of heavy-handed social messages in games, and feared the worst when I started. I can remember only one scene toward the beginning that had me rolling my eyes; the rest of the time it felt like honest struggles of real, flawed, nuanced characters. This is not stuffed with "woke garbage" as some would have you believe.

Let's get the bad out of the way first: the story drags on an hour or two longer than it needed to, and sometimes it felt like my deaths were a result of sluggish controls. I could feel the game making an effort to make each scenario different and interesting, but there are a few instances where it feels repetitive. The steady addition of weapons and tools feels a little too slow at times; some of the encounters could probably have been cut and that would speed up both the plot and the power progression nicely. I'd say the pacing is mostly good, but not perfect.

But now we get to the good, and it's a bit overwhelming. This game's storytelling chops are in an entirely different league than most games; and yeah, the direction it goes is very different than I was hoping and expecting. I agree that the plot could have been better, but we need to judge games by what they are, not by how we would have written them. What's here is executed masterfully, and truly challenges the motivations of YOU, the player. It makes you ask what drives you personally, and what you think about hate, love, revenge, violence, and forgiveness.

The story is what we are here for, but the gameplay is no slouch. While not on the same level as many 3rd-person action games, it's competent on the surface and surprisingly deep when you start to get creative. The weapon sandbox interacts very nicely with your tools and the environment, allowing for creative plays if you've got the guts and the resources. Gameplay is nothing special to note overall, but it also generally does not detract from the overall experience.

We all imagined a Part 2 that followed a similar format to the first game, but Naughty Dog wanted to do something different. I still wish we could get that game we imagined, but I'm also happy that this game exists as it is. Well done and bravo to the developers for branching out and trying something infinitely harder. I dare not guess where Part 3 will take us, but I'm excited for the ride.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gameplay: The gameplay in the last of us part 2 is brutal, dirty and feels like you're fighting for you're life in every encounter. The AI is incredibly smart and can plan coordinated attacks on you as well as outflank you, when I was playing on survivor mode I felt forced to play aggressive as if I stayed in one spot enemies would quickly surround you. It is an immersive experience because of these mechanics as well as the horrific screams when you dismember an enemy or the cries of anger when you kill one of their friends. I recommend playing on survivor. 10/10

Graphics; Absolutely stellar, jaw dropping, and at times almost feels photorealistic. 10/10

Story: This aspect of the game is the most polarizing and controversial, and is the main reason of the negative reviews. The point of the game is not merely revenge is bad, as many players say it is, I'd like it to compare it too the final scene in "Come and See". In which the main character fueled by hate comes to understand that we are all victims of our environment, Abby is not inherently evil, the world she lives in forced her to be evil to survive, just like has happened in Ellies and Joels storylines, but as we play with Abby we see that she is not simply Joels killer, she is also a daughter to a murdered father, friend, lover and just as human as Ellie, she is a good person which had to make bad decisions. In other words its not the people who are evil it is the world they live in that turns evil into a virtue, almost a condition for surviving. When I understood this it was easier to slowly forgive Abby as each time we played as here we were seeing another layer of her, and by the end I actually enjoyed playing as Abby more than I enjoyed playing as Ellie. Whether you liked the game or not comes down to if you could forgive Abby or not, you're in the same boat as Ellie, so thats why I think whether to spare Abby or not should be up to the players, and not determined by the game, simply because a lot pop people could not forgive Abby, in my case I did and the decision Ellie made was coherent with my own, but a lot of people wanted Abby dead and just had to see their character forgive them. So in conclusion the story is a masterpiece if you can slowly forgive Abby thought the game. But naughty dog should have allowed you to decide. 8/10

I was gonna write a big, long, well thought out review but if would just get lost in the spam of 0/10 reviews. Ill just say a couple things. There are spoilers later on in the review.

First off I think the story is great...not perfect and maybe not quite as good as the first but I enjoyed it all the same. Its definitely not a "pile of hot garbage full of plot holes and beloved characters doing uncharacteristic things." like so many are trying to say here. It feels like people just want to forget what Joel did at the end of the first game...of course I...like many of you gladly did it...i loved Ellie just as much as him and I willingly killed all of those people...but after it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Its was incredibly selfish, disgusting, evil...yet we love him. It also seems like people are just deciding to forget how much Joel changed throughout the first game...he goes from a man paranoid of everyone and everything and rightfully so to a gentler man by the end and its because of his new connection with ellie. She teaches him to open up. To love again and by living in Jackson for 4+ years I imagine he's become even more laid back as yoh can tell that Tommy and the rest of the town of Jackson are welcoming to strangers so id assume Joel has become that way as well. I keep thinking of God of War when it comes to this point im trying to make. Aureus teaches Kratos how to love and that he can be better than the other gods. That he can do good and be good. Ellie had the same effect on Joel. I dont want to go much further in it so ill say my pros and cons quickly, say my peace about the overarching plot and get out of here.

Pros are obviously graphics, voiceacting, character animations, environments, set pieces and combat. I've already said I liked the story so its not in the list. I want to talk about combat quickly. I loved the brutal and simplistic combat of the first game and this game follows suit with some simple but great improvements. The dodge button is awesome to put it simply haha if you're like me and enjoy playing in a very realistic E3 demo kinda of style then the dodge button during brutal combat is awesome, llan and simple. Also the ability to go completely prone is a welcomed addition. That all being said i just kinda hate the encounters with infected. I didn't really like them in the first game and I don't really like it still. But thats just me. Doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the game. Okay lastly I understand people not enjoy the game but it definitely wasn't created for you to have fun. The first game was about love and this one was about hate so it definitely had a different tone and to me thats ok. This was a hard game to get through just like reading Blood Meridian is hard to do. Its depressing and violent and full of characters doing terrible things but just like Blood Meridian the final product is well worth it. The ending had me speechless just like the first game. It had me feeling so heartbroken for Ellie. So sad for what she went through and what she's cursed to live with the rest of her life. But she accepts joels death and forgets about revenge and it seems to me she is going to make joel happy by finally living and being happy and trying to move past all the trauma and death she's experienced. Although I didn't completely enjoy playing as Abby I loved what it added to the story and it wouldnt have worked without her side of things. Though I do think it dragged on far to long. The first game flew by but in a good way. This game feels like it could've been 4-5 hours shorter. I bought the game to play as ellie. Dont make me play as another character for 8 hours straight. They could've cut down abbys storyline to 4-5 hours. Definitely took a point off of the score for me, but thats my only complaint. I think the game is a near masterpiece. I wouldve probably given it a 9.5 if I could. Its as great as the first but with a completely different tone.

The graphics and the audio are definitely on of the best we can find in the PS4. The game is pretty fun and even though the jump button didn’t add much to the game, being able to crawl and dodge does make the game play way more fun than the previous one IMO.

The combats are great and the clickers and stalkers will definitely scare the **** out of you.

The story itself is not bad and the game does give you that rollercoaster of emotions. By the end I could sympathize with Abby and I actually had a lot of fun paying with her. It was a really nice experience being able to play against Tommy and Ellie. I actually admired them more since I faced them as enemies. Their are really tough to beat.

About the gameplay, it took all the parts from the first game and improved them, and visually this is one of the most gorgeous games I have ever played. Very often I found myself just admiring the world around me. Lastly, I need to mention the music... absolutely superb.
It seems like a lot of people just review bombed this game without playing it, but considering the record-breaking sales it doesn't really matter.

The Last of Us 2 is one of the most dearing, gut wrenching, heart pacing stories Naughty Dog has ever created. It has a very fun and satisfying game-play loop, along with making you strategize and think on your approaches to bypass the enemies. In terms of technical and graphic fidelity, Naughty Dog continues to show the gaming industry that they are one of the best developers.

The Last of Us Part 2.

Boa noite a todos e espero poder ajudar com minha opinião.

Enjoyed every bit of it. Brilliant pacing of the story, most grounded combat ever. Badly wanted to play more of Elie's part in the game. Abby was fun though. Want to explain the in game things more. Just play and experience the ups and downs in Elie's life.

I enjoyed it seriously, yeah most of u are probably pissed off at the "thing" at the beginning but giving it a bad review because of that its pretty... you know, becuz giving it a low score means its bad game which is not fair for the developers cause they worked hard on the game and you could see that they worked hard throught the little details in the game.

This game is excellent. The gameplay, the graphics and yes the story will hurt you but a lot of thought was put into each detail. Many people are upset with the game and I understand their frustration. I was frustrated at first as well but I kept playing with an open mind and enjoyed the game. Part 2 may not be as good as the first game but it is still an excellent game none the less.

Spoiler alert: Ellie travels for weeks to kill Abby then lets her go, which was really dumb, same with Abby letting Ellie go earlier. Except for those two very dumb parts of the story, the game was a masterpiece. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Whilst I understand much of the criticism of the game from others, I'm giving it a high score because it's still one of the best games on PS4 and even though not all the experimentation with the game structure/plot etc worked perfectly, Naughty Dog were willing to actually experiment! Not to mention all the progressive and accessibility features. It's a gaming milestone.
After finishing the story I was still thinking about the game days later and I'm now enjoying New Game + (the collectables were enjoyable to attempt on my own but missed some).
It's a very engaging game and a worthwhile experience. Even if it doesn't leave you feeling the same way you felt about the first game.
There are some truly great moments and surprises. I felt like I’d played through an epic season like Game of Thrones or something.
I'm hoping part 3 is a redemption story with a more positive ending to tie up a trilogy. That would give this game more meaning.
I was expecting the ending would be that Ellie found Abby had been bit while enslaved and left to die, but when Ellie discovered her, she would notice Abby was showing signs of immunity and would then reconsider her intended actions, leaving some sort of open ending and making me feel like there was a better reason we played over half the game as Abby (other than the interesting but controversial angle this approach resulted in).
In summary, it’s an amazing but controversial game and I’m so glad Naughty Dog took a new and risky approach rather than just delivering “what sells”.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Story: now here is were people can and do deviate, I loved the story when playing with ellie so a 7 for me because i didnt care much for abby as a main character,

if you actually sit through it, the events are earned you just have to get passed the part where you know who dies and give it a chance, it is totally subjective tho so this one could in fact be 0 for some people

    My score: (10+10+10+9+7)/5 = 9.2

and IMO the lowest one could rate this game is (9+9+9+5+0)/5 = 6.4
Anyone rating it lower than that, is not rating the game just raging on it for some other reason (IMO)

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
