Unfortunately the plot of this game is the main weakness. Ending - no comments. Poor gameplay and bad stealth mechanic. Guess you've already read all reviwes above and below and there is no need to write something more. Hope this is just some kind a prank.

Abby isn't a bad person and her motives had about as much justification as Ellie's. I do think the Abby section was too long and I just wanted to get back to Ellie, but it served a purpose. This game just makes you not know how to feel, and i can kinda dig that. I love Joel, and I was destroyed when he was murdered, but after playing as Abby and learning her reasons, I get it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The sequel everyone has been waiting for, end up being the sequel no one wanted.

That's how I feel, I did not expect this story to be told. Why? mostly because a whole game based on the "cycle of violence/revenge/forgiveness" (and not going at it the right way) and not focusing on the zombies, cure, or a better world building, well kinda a miss for me. But still very good and a rare experience.

What's my problems with this sequel? The characters mostly. Abby (/Owen). I don't hate her. I get what was the point of her story, why we played her. I do, but, it just doesn't work for me.

Could be because, we play her after 15 HOURS, you know when we are very invested in Ellie (can't be compared with how we get play Ellie in the first game). Maybe because we play her after a big cliffhanger, and get back to it after hours. Maybe because we see her kill and torture XXX. Or maybe because her and Owen story felt bland, boring, long? I get it, we need to sympathize with them. But not like this (I did like Abby with Lev and Yara, it was interesting).

And we spend quite a few hours playing Abby, when other characters get almost nothing. Dina, Tommy, Jesse and Maria.

Ellie loses everything, even herself (PTSD, not explored or talked about) for revenge. In this game the characters don't talk a lot about their feelings or what happened, it's missing, we have visuals but... Even worse, if you miss an entry in the journal, you might not understand correctly Ellie.

That being said, it's still an amazing experience. The gameplay is really good when given the opportunity. The graphics are a big step up, for me, it's the character animations that I liked the most. Again story not perfect for a few things, but for the rest it was good. The flashbacks could have been handled better, sometimes it was frustrating, more so with Abby. And lots of options to play how you want in the settings.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

That's not at all how I feel about tlou2. t's exactly what Druckman said it was, a story of hate and what it leaves you with at the end of the day. The characters manage to be more compelling than many of the original just off of simple character motivations and what you learn from them as the story goes on, the gameplay is some the most crafty and intense survival combat you'll ever see thanks to the AI, the exploration is much more engaging and impactful thanks to the larger open areas that may have enemies you don't want to waste resources on and the simple yet efficient environmental puzzles, the twists and turns the story puts you through feel like something out of a coen brothers or a24 film (makes you wonder how those directors who commended kojima for death stranding would feel about tlou2), the game is simply just one of the best games this gen. Compared to the first game it's got much more meat to it, stronger world building thanks to the different factions, much more believable enemies that fall less into your typical game types like the molotov guys from the first, the gameplay again is just improved top to bottom and above all the game gives much more naunced perspectives. I was genuinely surprised at how much I loved this game, I don't like a lot of cinematic games and I'm not at all a naughty dog fan, I think uncharted 4 is almost as bad as 1. Really the only reason I don't give it a 10 is because I'm sure there are a few problems I missed but nothing that will fundamentally change my experience, I can't imagine a better sequel than the one we got for this game; for all the talk of people say for wanting games to take advantage of the medium it's a part of tlou2 does it to tell this pretty impactful story of 2 people wronged and deal with it in ways that are ultimately unhealthy to say the least. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I usually don’t share my opinions online, but I think I need to write some stuff.

I‘ve never felt so unsatisfied yet entertained at the same time.

    MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD :(

I just don’t know how to describe my feelings after finishing this game. It’s definitely something else. THE LAST OF US PART II has major pacing issues though. Even if you (for whatever reason) can sympathize with the second playable character Abby, there’s still this major cliffhanger lasting for several freaking hours, maybe just to make you feel not so bad about beating up Ellie to a pulp in the concluding theatre scene.

This is borderline pretentious BS and after finally playing the really great Uncharted4 like farm-„epilogue“, thinking you’re finally about to get the closure you’re craving for, they take you for even another round with absolutely no conclusion.

And despite all this „extra“ content being very well presented and atmospheric (even the Abby levels are just mind bending) I just had a really not so fun time playing anymore. This ending made me so sad and I really don’t know if I ever want to play the Abby parts ever again in my entire life, after knowing how all of this plays out.

I played the Ellie part of the game almost entirely walking (just slightly tilting the stick) and exploring every corner until this major screw up point in the story and the overall game deserves so much better, but just by forcing you to play as Abby for this fatiguing long amount of time, I felt the urge to speed run her part. Skipping and rushing several Clicker and Scars encounters. I’m simply not able to like this later story arch with absolutely no satisfying conclusion.

There are major emotional, partially optional, scenes to discover, which jerked the tears out of me in no time and I’m very thankful for that ND. Witnessing the growing affection between Ellie and Dina was one of the most motivating things for me and I really adored the museum flashback with Ellie and Joel.

The overall attention to detail in this game is awesome. The gore effects really treated the 80s Robocop-violence fan boy in me. Better blood pools than Stranglehold (finally) and partially dismemberment of the enemies like in the good old Soldier of Fortune days. The gore is even quite shocking from time to time, which really fits the overall gritty tone of the game.

Another great thing I’d like to point out are the multiple accessibility options in this game. I played the game in german and our voice actors over here did an overwhelmingly great job. And you’re able to modifiy nearly any aspect in the difficulty settings seperately, which led to an overall less frustrating experience than in the first game.

Despite this another major thing that’s bothering me is the fact, that gun modifications just don’t f'ing matter. The workbenches are presented in a very cool fashion, but don’t think you’re able to stash a second full spare mag after crafting the extended magazine. Why? Really! Why?
Only one spare mag seems a bit little to begin with, but I get that this would inevitably lead to balancing issues. But in the end I only upgraded my weapons for the visuals. Pointless. Period.

I guess the element of choice is really lacking in the THE LAST OF US PART II. They really could’ve let you lose to Ellie in the theatre or just let her shoot Abby in the head in Santa Barbara or just f'ing stay at the ranch and get over it. I really don’t know how ND is going forward from here on with this franchise, but I wish them all of the best, despite all the negativity surrounding their product at the moment.

This game is still a solid 9 for me (I usually don’t judge in numbers). I really liked the combat mechanics, the brutal firefights and melee animations. Scouting the first few levels very carefully, picking up notes and solving a few puzzles. I had great fun with it. I cannot overlook the crazy amount of effort, put into the overall artistic craftwork of this piece of art and ND probably should be proud of their universe, since gamers seem to be pretty involved.

Stand by your vision, but also do NOT forget about your fans!

Oh and you really could’ve added one or two Nirvana songs for Ellie to play on the guitar ;)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Everything aside from the beginning of Abby Day 1 was sooo well done.
Laura Bailey and Ashley Johnson give the performances of their lives. Everytime Troy Baker's Joel appears is an incredible moment of delight and this story teaches you to dwell with how far one goes and what terrible things one commits in the pursuit of injustice to those which are close to you. I am so incredibly happy that this game was able to handle this discussion expertly and maturely. By the end of the game, I ended up sobbing. Not because I wanted Ellie to kill Abby, or vice versa but because I had seen these characters experience so much suffering that you just wanted them to stop. 'When you're lost for the darkness, look for the light'. I am forever grateful that Ellie found the light at the very end, even if it cost her, her largest fear. Ending up alone. The production is insane, the sound design is insane, the music is beyond me. This is the best step that video games have taken to prove that this medium is the best out there, and we can tell stories which deeply impact us. If by the end, you think that Joel's death wasn't done right or that he deserved a better death, then I am sorry to say that you haven't really understood or Naughty Dog failed to communicate to you how unjust death, life and this world is. No one is ever ready for the death of a loved one. It's never right, and it always hurts. When you lose someone, you can surely lose yourself. Everything is so good. (Some of the pacing, while I could understand, didn't rub me the right way. Abby Day 1 intro in particular. I think that they could've had the truck ride lead them over to the camp to meet Isaac instead of taking the whole long detour since the player isn't going to be paying too much attention because of the shock value of realizing you're playing as Abby for 3 days)

overall it could have a much better story and could have gone in a better direction but the last of us part 2 is a masterpiece which totally deserved GOTY 2020 a very few companies in the world can make games as great as naughty dog games.
I don't understand all the 0/10 scores you are uncomfortable with the political ideas and orientations promoted in this game (like me)? you could rate it 7. but how could you ignore everything else and the hard work that has been put in this great project!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I understand why people are angry with this game, but none of these 0-7 reviews are warranted. Giving this game anything below a 7 is silly. Giving this game anything below a 5 is objectively wrong.

This game is lovingly crafted and polished down to the last pixel. The animations, graphics, environments, art direction, gameplay, music, sound design, acting, and storytelling are all lovingly crafted by people who clearly cared about making the best product they could.

The story, particularly in relation to the original game, is the sole source of all the ire directed toward this game. I must stress that the story telling is top notch, it's just that the story Mr. Druckmann chose to tell is the problem.

The game starts out promising enough, where you play as Joel riding on horseback toward a breathtakingly gorgeous view of Jackson in the distance. You and Tommy are out on the plains of Wyoming under a sunset while a sombre guitar rift gently yet strikingly plays. It's all incredibly perfect and really makes you feel that you're walking into something great. And it is great.

Until Joel gets brutally murdered by a woman with the most freakishly bizarre character physique I've ever seen on a video game character.

Everything regarding the narrative is kind of downhill from here. Ellie turns into a merciless killer on a quest for revenge, and the moment you are about to get it, you're suddenly FORCED TO PLAY AS THE BIZARRELY DESIGNED TESTOSTERONE-LADEN WOMAN WHO MURDERED JOEL, and you're forced to play as her for nearly half the game! I can only guess the reason they did this is to humanize her and make you feel some sort of compassion and understanding for her actions, but that's pretty hard to do considering that you didn't do this until AFTER she murdered the character we already spent an entire game playing as, learning to love him despite his objective faults. He was one of the most well developed, most human characters I've ever seen in fiction, and killing him off the way they did felt like a huge middle finger to everyone who loved the first game. And after all this, this lengthy revenge quest, you never actually get it, and are just left with a sad, unsatisfying ending where Ellie essentially loses everything. The most frustrating part of all of this is that the game is incredibly well made, so I cannot really hate it. I just kind of wish I'd never played it.

It's all very sad and unrewarding and makes you wish they'd never made a sequel, because they shouldn't have. The absolute hands down highlights of this game are, ironically, the series of flashbacks you go through with Ellie and Joel from years past. There's one in particular where it's Ellie's Birthday and Joel takes her to an abandoned museum and well...it's heartwarming and just so damn perfect and great in every way, so much so that it pretty much made the game worth playing despite how much I loathed the ending.

All I can say is this: if you liked the original game's story and cared about its characters, there's a very high likelihood you will not like this game, and I would recommend you steer clear of it, I know I wish I had. But it's nothing resembling a bad game, and it doesn't even come close to deserving all the negative user reviews here. I just wish they'd have taken the story in a different direction and handled Ellie and Joel's stories differently, and that's why I completely understand where all the negative reviews are coming from. But when you look at it for what it is, a video game, and how it plays, and how well it's made, there's really no justification for low scores.

    - Ignore the votebombing campaign. A huge amount of the hate it's getting is simply for having gay characters in the lead. The people hating on the game are conservatives with small minds who clearly haven't played it.

    - For those people who are SINCERELY disappointed in the darker, brutal turn the story takes all I can say is...did you play the same The Last Of Us 1 that I did? Joel's daughter is killed in the first hour of the game and he goes on to murder hundreds upon hundreds of human beings. Then he makes a deeply morally questionable decision at the end of the game.
This is not a game series for people who like happy endings. And if you're surprised by the turns this game's story takes that's a GOOD thing, no? Did you not want to be surprised?
One comment I read here on Metacritic in the User Score section summed up the stupidity of most of the criticism this game's getting: it said:

"THE DEVELOPERS IGNORED THE COMMUNITY AND JUST WROTE THEIR OWN STORY!!!"

I mean...what do you say to someone who thinks that way? Someone who is so entitled and spoiled and small minded that they believe they have some divine right to dictate the direction of someone else's story in someone else's game?

Okay, that out of the way, I can get onto the game itself. I'm going to admit that I was not a huge fan of the first game. I thought it began and ended brilliantly, in fact I think it has easily the greatest ending of any game ever made - the ending is up there with the ending to some of the greatest films ever made too.
But the bulk of the game itself wasn't enjoyable for me. It was too slow, the stealth was too laboured and predictable and the gunplay was dull. I'm a huge fan of ND games, Uncharted 2-4 remain some of my all-time favourites, but TLOU was a rare ND game that just didn't click with me.
For some reason I'm finding its sequel much, much more enjoyable. First of all, the simple act of moving around the world is greatly improved. You are quicker, more nimble, the mantling animations are fluid, you can climb quickly and easily...
A great example of how much care has been taken over making movement responsive and satisfying is the way your horse controls. Think of how many games have horses in them...now think of how utterly atrociously difficult it is to control those horses: eg. Red Dead 2, with its painfully slow, tank-like horses, or Shadow of the Colossus with the infuriatingly capricious Agro, Roach in The Witcher 3, etc., etc... Yet your horse in TLOU 2 is an extension of you. It turns on a dime, it accelerates beautifully, it moves from a trot to a gallop to a stop with such fluidity I was a bit startled when I first controlled it. This is the Naughty Dog difference: the sheer care that's gone into making small things as good as they can possibly be.

When I reviewed Uncharted 4 I called it 'Luxury Gaming', simply because of the lavishness of the enterprise, the absurd amount of care and attention that had gone into every single component of the game. And while TLOU 2 doesn't have the same obvious graphical splendor and jaw-dropping scenery as Uncharted 4, it has had just as much, maybe more, attention paid to it.
It's visually magnificent, although the narrative forces it into less obviously attractive locations than other big hitters in this department like Horizon Zero Dawn, Red Dead 2 and the aforementioned Uncharted 4. It controls beautifully. ...And the combat...the human versus human combat...bloody hell. I've just started facing other humans, and it feels substantially different from other action games in this regard. It feels much more tense. A single shot can kill you, a single shot can kill them...the enemies shout to each other throughout, threaten you, you can try and outflank them, and you have your heat-vision-y sense powers, but apart from that it's desperation and adrenaline.

I'm hoping the game keeps up this level of quality, in its gunplay and in its stealth, and so far this feels like its cribbed a lot of valuable lessons from Uncharted 4(which Neil Druckmann, director of TLOU 1 and 2, also directed) simply in how to make the game more...well, fun. More purely enjoyable. How to make stealth and combat more satisfying. So far it feels like they've succeeded, and I get the same sugar rush from the action elements in this game that I got from Uncharted 4, only there's a good deal more depth to this.

I am interested in seeing where the plot goes. But it's the gameplay that so far is impressing me most.

Based on my impressions of the game up until now this is a substantial improvement on the first game - more satisfying in every single area. I was not expecting much because I'd had such a hard time with the first game, but it has been riveting so far. Tense, dramatic, with a forward momentum propelling the player forward. It's daring, with the unique 'luxury gaming' touch that you only get with ND.

¿Superior a Bloodborne? ¿Uncharted 4? ¿The Witcher 3?

I think the Abby part of the story was not there so that we can excuse the murder of Joel or justify her actions either. It was there so that we can understand the nuance and the parallel between Elie's quest of revenge vs Abby's.

I think Abby's part was there so that we can better understand why Ellie (in the end) had to forgive Abby and let her go when she had the power over her. I understand the criticism that people have when playing as Abby but I still think it was a good decision in the context of the story. I wanted Abby to die the whole game until the end. Not because (as I previously said) she was no longer guilty of the torture and death of Joel but because I needed Ellie to forgive her.

Very very great game .. gameplay, graphics and sound all 10/10 next gen level.. The story itself while good is only around 7/10 level story where as the first game was a 9/10 level story thats the only area it falls compared to the 1st game. Overall I actually prefer this to the first game due to the other aspects

Overall the game was crafted with an amazing amount of love and passion for game making in general. I did have mixed feelings through out the whole story but the direction was very bold and progressive which I wish more games would be. The toxicity of the gaming community is truly visible just by the user reviews here. Overall I'm happy with how the game was made and I'm glad it exists

This game is a gem and a worthy second part to the now legendary The Last of Us. I understand some people would have wanted a "better" story, but I found it realistic and very well put together. There were some twists that I didn't expect which I loved.
    It's definitely worth playing!

No need to pay attention to LGBT or racial issues. This is just a game, it is what the developer sees it. I was in love in the first part of the game and went through it several times. I haven’t played many games several times. In the second part, I waited for a very long time. I want to note that I did not expect a specific plot. I was just waiting for the sequel. The graphics are superb, especially with good TV. The gameplay is the same as in the first part - it's cool. The plot is good, just good. Nothing supernatural, but not **** as many tutus write. The average percentage completion of 31-35 according to various sources. I don’t think that people who write * game **** * went through it to the end.
My humble opinion is that the game is worth playing and understanding what is important to you.

The greatest game of 2020 (at the moment). The Last of Us: Part II is a game about anger, hate, vengeance, but, above all, forgiveness. As The Last of Us (2013) was, this game is a turning point in story driven games, and only can only hope that every game from now on will continue to have this much attention to detail and cinematographic moments.

Naughty Dog has done it again, this game makes you do things with characters you DO NOT want to do, I respect that. This game has balls, it is getting unwarranted hate from players who haven't either do not like storytelling where there are consequences to previous actions or don't like video games. I will not spoil this game, please play it and review it FAIRLY, and not with hate glasses on.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

A gente é forçado a odiar a Abby logo no começo do jogo. E somos obrigados a refletir.

The Last of Us Part II é uma obra de arte.

The controls are a little tough to start out with but most are exactly the same as the first game. I have not played a game for some many consistent hours in a long, long time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay, I'm not sure why there is such hatred out there for this game but I felt like weighing in on the action, as I have a fairly different view to other people. I finished the game on the hardest difficulty (survival I believe) and it took me around 30 - 40 hours. Let me explain what I thought:

Firstly the technical aspects of this game are incredible. The graphics are absolutely stunning, the sound design is fantastic and creates a very tense atmosphere, and the play areas have become much bigger and - considering it is a linear game - make it feel almost non linear.

Gameplay you should expect more of the same thing from the first game. Stealth focused with lashings of ultra violence when things go wrong. The ability to go prone, jump and climb add a little extra but are certainly not huge advances. Similarly the crafting and upgrades have been expanded slightly, but are not huge leaps forward.

There were parts I did not like. I felt like the number of set pieces had been increased considerably from the first game, and that is where the gameplay is weakest. On the hardest difficulty there are very few supplies, and all the items you craft are precious, not to mention they can be difficult to swap between when you are being assailed on all sides by runners. This highlights the problems with the controls, for example you may dodge blows from an infected only for your hits to be directed in the direction you were initially facing, rather than to the infected you are now in a hand to hand fight with - hugely frustrating. One such set piece there are waves of increasingly harder enemies attacking you, beginning with runners, then runners and clickers, and ending with multiple shamblers and runners - there were no save checkpoints between waves which meant having to repeat the easy sections multiple times. The set pieces are then reduced to a trial and error approach until you know how to time your actions against the spawns - on easier difficulties this won't be such an issue, but it was very frustrating on survival.

Another addition I did not like were the dogs. Dogs have a handler, as you'd expect, and once dogs have picked up your sent will follow it until they find you. This can be interrupted by stunning them in a variety of ways. There is one section in game where the amount of dogs and people patrolling make advancing very slow if you are trying to remain undetected. If a dog hits your sent trail though, you have to move quick, they will catch up fast and have huge detection radius on the hardest difficulty. Combine this with their handler and stunning them becomes almost an impossibility. In the end I just resorted to Molotovs before they had caught my scent, or leading them onto mines. It felt a cheap tactic on my part, but I couldn't find any other obvious option.

Now for the story, where most complaints seem to lie. I thought the story was incredible, it kept me hooked until the end. Joel gets killed early on, but I didn't have a problem with this. We know Joel and Ellie from the first game at this point, and hopefully are invested in them. Joel is a bad dude though, I'm not sure if anybody remembers the end to the first game, but he killed a lot of people and ensured there would be no cure. I couldn't believe it in the first game while it was happening, and was shouting at my screen for him to stop. Ellie feels the same as I do, what Joel did was wrong, and their relationship has become broken down and strained as a result. I had no problem with Joel dying, most of our investment is with Ellie at this point (or should be, in my opinion) so killing Joel is not an issue. Joel is still a father figure to Ellie though, so watching him get beaten to death sets Ellie on a path to revenge.

Abby is Joels killer, and you are forced to play as her throughout the game. To start with it feels forced too. I didn't want to play as her to begin with either. During this time though, we learn her motivations and we watch as she puts herself through the **** 3 days to save two children. By the end of Abbys section I found myself invested in Abby and Ellie equally.

The final section of the game is played as Ellie, and I spent the whole time dreading the end. I did not want to reach the end of the game just to find her make what I considered to be the wrong decision, especially after Joel did in the first game. It is gripping stuff, which if you ignore the intricacies can sound very simple and disappointing. Is it just a tale of revenge? Mostly yes. Was the first game just the tale of smuggling a package? Mostly yes.

It's not a perfect game, the story is slightly weaker than the first game, but the gameplay is slightly stronger. I'd say this was an equal to the Last of Us Part One: Technically incredible, slight clumsiness in controls, with minor gameplay improvements, occasionally frustrating level design, and a slightly weaker - but still great - sto

The Last of Us Part II, further deepens the complexity of an already broken post-apocalyptic world. As well as viciously showcasing the consequences of Joel's actions during the first game.

Firstly, if you are frustrated with the direction Naughty Dog has taken story-wise in this game. You must understand or remember the nature of the world Joel and Ellie live in. I just finished the first game for the third time right before part II dropped, I'd recommend doing the same before jumping in.

So, Society and Civilization as we know them, are far gone. About 25 years gone. And the result, is anarchy, constant fear, struggle and the survival of the fittest. Joel's change was very clearly displayed during the first game, a carpenter, mutated into a ruthless killer, smuggler. In other words, the perfect product of a shattered world. Still tormented by the loss of his daughter, Sarah.

Thus, violence begets violence, could be the motto of this world. 'An eye for an eye', 'Live by the sword, Die by the sword', and so on. Imagine how such a cruel world impacts the loss of a loved one, within a tight-knit group, trying to hang onto some speck of normality still left, all the while, survival is an ever present concern. In such a world there would be no such thing as 'Let bygones be bygones.'. So, if you're annoyed about how things turned out, I don't blame you, but so it's the way of that world.

By what I've witnessed within my first two hours of gameplay, Abby's vengeance wasn't immoral, even though the execution of it was ruthless, yet she did not go on a murdering spree to reach her target. And it's mentioned through the game, as why she did it in that particular way.

So, in conclusion the story in The Last of Us Part II, doesn't seem senseless, nor is it devoid of any logic. It's just a bit more complex compared with the story from the first game, which was very simple yet beautifully written and executed, with the main focus on Joel and Ellie and their journey across
America. While in the sequel it's more about the destination. There are new characters, which, yes, lack the sweet character development we were used from the first game. And that alone, might frustrate several people.

From the number of comments and negative reviews I read, most mention the lack of quality in the game's story. Plot holes, and character's like Joel and Ellie acting odd. Especially Joel during his encounter with Abby, as in 'Why would he trust her, the real Joel doesn't trust people.', What ? You cannot find an explanation by yourself ? Do you want a game that gives you the resolve to every aspect of it's story ? EXAMPLE: Did RDR2 explain why Dutch left Arthur to die ? No ! Why he kept avoiding the plain truth ? When everything around him pointed to the gang's demise, and perhaps his own...

Let me ask you something...Do you want a game or movie for that matter, that explains it's own narrative ? I do not. And I don't think you want one either. So ! Why did Joel acted as he did ? He simply let his guard down. And by the time he realized in what sort of situation he got himself in, it was too late. I mean, for the last 5 years he lived within a community of people not set on screwing each other, that helped and perhaps welcomed strangers in their community. Thus, in Joel's instance, if you can explain it, it isn't a plot hole nor abnormal behavior. But simply factors that most fail to consider.

If you take your time and really think on how else would the first game's repercussions get to affect Joel, and in turn, Ellie, one would come up with several outcomes. And somewhere among those, one will eventually come up with something along the lines of 'Actions have consequences...'.

So, is it trash ? As some others have mentioned in their reviews, I do not think so...
Perhaps those people expected something more cheerful, yet uncharacteristic, I would add.
However, I don't know what most people expected...

Fighting is heavy, brutal and harsh - you can feel adrenaline with every bullet and every hit. Music and sounds are extremely climatic, graphics are absolutely next-gen and the faces haven’t been this real in any game I ever played. Characters are real, authentic and genuine. The general feeling of guilt and despair is there whatever you do. I would only like to spend slightly more time with Ellie. We’ve waited for so long to see her again and yet she wasn’t in the spotlight all that much. I guess it was more of a story about violence, hatred and revenge than about this poor girl. Sadly, if that’s the case, then I feel like the expectations set in the trailers and even some interviews with the crew were misplaced. Expand

Only negative I found was maybe little too much looting. All the plot twists people keep crying about weren't anything negative to me. It almost feels like people are too used to Disney happy endings and all main characters surviving to make 7 sequels. I think they learned a lot from GoT that there's a value in shock value and that's what I saw and liked. Story was good but not great, everything else in this game is top notch and best we've seen in this generation. I can't even imagine how you can improve graphics from this or animation or motion cap acting. I do still understand that for some the story or characters is everything but for me all combined is what makes a good game and this is a very good game. Oh yeah and Abby part of the game for me was the most interesting part but not because of Abby even though I kinda liked her in the end. Scars was the most interesting parts of the game. Gameplay is intensive af and I love it. So satisfying weapons and I love gore in games. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a masterclass in AAA games. The visuals are incredible, and not just in terms of graphical fidelity but in terms of variety and imagination. Seeing a giant sweeping river through Seattle was breathaking. There was good pacing for the most part, straddling the line between exploration and action perfectly. I was really impressed how much space there is left to the player to explore and invest in the world. They could have bloated the meticulously designed locations with non-stop action as padding but they showed a lot of restraint in balancing exploration and action. There is a lot of diversity in tone too: when fighting humans it feels like an action game, when fighting the infected it feels like a survival horror game and it swaps between the two effortlessly. Action is fun and stealth is fun and one can seemlessly bleed into the other without any issue. I was particularly impressed by the tension in some of the encounters with the infected. Incredible atmosphere and sense of doom with the sublte low droning music. The new additions to the infected helped to keep combat fresh though I'm unsure how I feel about the use of stalkers in places. They certainly mix up combat and stealth but at times they were annoying.

The acting and characters are great and the story it tells is actually quite a unique one. I'm impressed they really tried to do something new. It is fundamentally a story of vengence and forgiveness and the mindlessness and violence of tribalism. It's also a story of letting go and mental torture of obsessing over the past. It's ironic that this game has the same hate thrown at it that it is highlighting in it's story. It's the tribalism rife in social media at the moment spewing out hatred between people that could otherwise just get along or at least get on with their lives. Instead we are all meandering around obssesing with fictitious characters of people and we don't care to find out their context or communicate with them. By the end of the game I was on team Abby which I really didn't think I could be at the outset. Ellie just seemed broken and volatile, destroying everything around her when she should have been trying to fix herself. Abby was awful for sure but she moved beyond her past. The ending fight was poignant and brutal. I'm so glad it ended the way it did. With painful self-reflection.

My main complaint would be that the last 10 hours or so felt a bit drawn out. Perhaps it's because I was playing on hard and being stealthy all the time against increasing odds ends up just feeling like work. Or perhaps in terms of the story, it is just inevitable that the story is drawn out when trying to construct two independent and linked story lines that are both fleshed out enough to care about the characters. Finally, I think some of the bosses are a bit unfair. If you haven't diligently stocked up with ammo they could even be impossible? I had almost no ammo left after the Rat King and I had to basically dodge him for 5 mins trying to get all the crafting materials I could to beat him. Add his insta-kill attack and it just wasn't fun after the 10th try.

    Weapons and gadgets are interesting.
The game went quite slowly and long to me. The story is simply long. When I thought that’s it, it appeared that there was still much left. Iis it good or bad?
The most mixed feelings are of course about the choice of narration and control over opposite camps in the game. Decisions feel irrational and illogical. But we don’t have a choice here. I couldn’t put myself in their shoes.
There is this feeling at the end of the game that creators threw themselves into a deep water and couldn’t fulfill the task according to expectations.
All in all it’s still a great game and quite different to others, I believe.

Až do epilogu. Ellie má oblíbená postava přijde o všechno o kamarády Joela asi i o Dinu jen kvůli tomu aby dokončila co začala. Když k tomu má dojít nakonec ji nechá jít. Takže nemá rodinu, pomstu a aby toho nebylo málo což mě nasralo asi úplně nejvíc nemá dva prsty a nemůže už hrát na kytaru. Expand

Or rather she developed into one. While Ellie remained that same bitter soul, that was supposed to die to give her life meaning but was robbed of that. And now she's lost... And that's probably another reason why people hate this game: we don't get to choose how the story develops and ends. Instead we're made to look at the conflict from both sides. And hopefully see Abby's truth... and understand that there're no villains in this game. Expand

The Last of Us, is ambitious in its history, but it gets in the way of the narrative and personality of some new characters, already existing in previous games. Passed the game with pleasure! The gameplay, graphics and sound are at the highest level.. But! The plot twists were very disappointing and the emphasis was on non-traditional relationships.. In General, only 9 points, apparently the game of the year will still be Ghost of Tsushima

I'm really confused about game score. Just finished it and it was amazing. Gameplay is really good, hasn't changed a lot since last game, but it's not 100% the same. Developers added new mechanics.
Story is really good, you don't usually see such twists in games. Plot is really good, story of every main characters is told. Graphics is great, sometimes I just stood and enjoyed visuals.

I think, that developers made a great job and that the game doesn't deserve such user score

I am not a massive fan of "the last of us", I played it, I enjoyed it. The Last of Us part 2 plays a lot like the first one, there are improvements, especially with generational leap that the PS4 brings(I played TLOU on ps3). The TLOU2 has the same bleak style to it and personally I think the cause for vengeance was a bold plot move. this game is a typical story driven sony game and it isI am not a massive fan of "the last of us", I played it, I enjoyed it. I really enjoy these style of games as they can tell interesting stories with fun gameplay. although replayability for me suffers, as this is not the sort of game I would play multiple times. if you want some interesting story, good cover/stealth shooting gameplay and can handle some darker themes, this is a really good game.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
