Technically, the game is very refined. The environment, vegetation, level of detail - everything impresses. The story varies - a very individual matter. You can't deny that the game arouses extreme emotions. The climate is dense, the game is long enough. Finding finds satisfying. Definitely in my top 5 games on PS4.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm at the half way point. 15h20min in. And the story is mind blowing. Certainly has made me want to seek revenge. The brutality is exactly what I'd expect the human race to crumble into from a world ending event. It's an emotional roller coaster. There is so much misinformation about this game, to clarify Abby does not appear to be transgender, there is certainly nothing to suggest it after the 'tracking' chapter. She's more like Sarah Connor on steroids Expand

Absolutely beautiful game with incredible graphics, gameplay, soundtrack and story. It is a rollercoaster of emotions providing the player with an intense and deep experience like no game has ever done before.

Congratulations to Naughty Dog for creating this game.

Visually, its stunning. The gameplay is less combat focused this time around. There is far more exploration. i appreciated this more than i thought i would, simply because the detail and variety in the world was far greater than maybe any game I've ever played. It never felt like the developers took a shortcut, as so many other AAA developers often do. it felt that they had taken an almost obsessive degree of care in bringing this world to life. I think the balance between combat, stealth, slow paced exploration, cinematic set pieces and narrative, is maybe perfect.

Regarding the narrative, which seems to have provoked a great deal of controversy, its not perfect. It seems Naughty Dog maybe tried to do too much as part of the narrative. A lot of it felt patched together. Its far from bad however. In fact, i think that its intention to reinforce that these characters, as interesting and relatable as they are, are essentially killing machines, feels like a continuation of point it makes at the end of the first game. One theme among those who dislike the game, is that they don't appreciate the depressing tone, but were we really meant to end the original feeling happy? Did we feel that the right choices were made by Joel; the character we're supposed to control? Should Ellie and Joel be anything like the people they were following the events of Part 1?

Like the first game, we are led to believe that the choices being made and deaths that are occurring are worthwhile in order to survive, when in reality, we're killing all of these people without there being a worthwhile ending. Unlike the first the game, Part 2 is incredibly upfront about that fact, making it clear early, with *that moment*.

The post-apocalyptic world is not forgiving. The human psyche is unpredictable and even nonsensical. The Last of Us Part 2 is thematically built around these two points with far greater confidence than Part 1, and it makes for one of the best games I've ever played.

Great, real violence, fear, shock to the point I had never experienced before in any other game.
It was one of the best games I've ever experienced, both in terms of gaming and technical graphics, and of course the storytelling, the game's music, which was a perfect masterpiece.Only in every way I had a problem with the end of the game, it could have had a much better and better ending

Joel’s death serves as the dark reality with which The Last of Us is set. I don’t think the story is quite as good as the first one but it’s still very good. Gameplay is very much like the first The Last of Us (TLOU). It does add more stealth options: crawling and being able to hide in tall grass. And in combat you can now dodge enemy melee attacks. The survival aspects have not changed that much. The amount of items you scavenge has increased slightly (played on hard difficulty). It allows you to use crafted items/ammo more often than in TLOU 1. It seems enemies no longer drop the ammo you are currently using which helps a bit with immersion. There still are pretty much the same limits on ammo and items you can carry. While it is slightly illogical it helps to keep the survival tension very real throughout the game.

Graphics are absolutely amazing and breathtaking. Animations are so smooth and fluid. It makes it really hard to go back to play other PS4 titles. This really looks and feels like next gen. The amount of detail in the world you go through in this game is also really incredible.

Sound and music is also top notch. Really helps with the immersion.

Story is the divisive one. I personally loved it, but as you can see from the user score and some youtuber reviews, not everyone did. But for me it was an emotional rollercoaster and i enjoyed it for most of the journey.

Conclusion: I highly recommend anyone to play this game and if you do want to play it try to avoid any spoilers. I enjoyed the game a lot and have to congratulate Naughty Dog on an amazing game.

I can understand people's frustration with this game, and understand their betrayal. However, I think that's kind of what the developers were going for. This story is going to leave you questioning who is the bad guy in this story. It's a story of cliche revenge, but takes a unique perspective on it. I finished the game feeling unsatisfied, yet content. The story does come to an end, but not how I wanted it, nor how I expected it. The game jumps 4 years since Joel saved Ellie in the hospital in Utah, and fills in that gap through out the game with flashbacks. Some of them are really endearing and enjoyable while others leave more to be wanted.

The Gameplay hasn't changed pretty much at all from the first one. Not the most robust controls in this era of gaming, but the thing about Naughty Dog games isn't ever the Gameplay. It's the stories they tell. It's still a little clunky, but nothing difficult to work with. If you hated the gameplay and don't want more of that then I'd recommend passing on it, but I recommend it to experience the story alone.

This is not a perfect game by any means, but the story will make you ask questions and leave you thinking. In that Naughty Dog executed wonderfully. I haven't played a game that's made me feel so many feelings in a game. I was happy, sad, angry, and frustrated. It was a wonderful experience.

Graphics 10 - Nothing bad to say here, the game is an absolute crazy graphic showcase, it has stunning lighting and particle effects, but the things that stand out the most are the crazy attention to detail on every aspect of the game, like the almost disgusting representation of violence or the the ridiculous amount of details in character models and the best animation system i have ever seen, hands down.

Sound 9.5: Every detail on ambient sound, voice acting and VFX are damn near perfect, it always makes you feel like it's supposed to, is truly immersive. Music is great overall, but some of the songs are lacking a little bit of strength and personality, that's not to say that the sound package is not impressive... in fact, i think this is one of the best sound designs of the year without a doubt.

Gameplay 8.5: All the systems works wonderfully, melee combat is very brutal and engaging, the interactions with the environment while fighting are breath taking. The shooting system feels great overall and the fact that bullets are so rare makes it it feel like a luxury to shoot one. Stealth is very satisfactory because level design makes every combat feel like a sandbox where you can get creative. The only problem for me is that sometimes, the repetitiveness of the game loop can be a little too pronounced, i wish there were more set pieces or moments where gameplay changes a little bit... in a 12 hour adventure (like the first game) this is not a problem, but in a 24 hour one, it can get a little too repetitive at times.

Story 8.0: I can see why a lot of people don't like the story, a lot of parts in the game are hard to watch and play... but i just can't stop thinking this: At last! we have a good true tragedy video game! this is a step forward to the industry, i'm very happy to see video game studios trying to expand narrative to new horizons.
With that said, the execution has it's flaws, the structure of the story can get a little confusing and negatively affect the pacing at times, and there are one or two things that failed to be completely believable to me because some characters are, well... a little out of character.

This game is fantastic in every sense, i respect so much the approximation of the story and the message, it was risky but for me it paid off entirely.

The violence on display is basically worse than rockstar's manhunt -- without all the controversy. So strangely this time it's acceptable. It's also quite fun to off all of these entitled snob kids in the game. It subverts a lot of video game tropes and it really does force you to confront the actions of the main character. It starts out with a fairly straightforward revenge premise and ends up going in all kinds of directions before returning to it with radically changed characters. It's a long and exhausting journey, and so very worth it if you leave your assumptions at the door.

It's not a game for everyone - as the reviews seem to show - but if you enjoy emotional and moral challenges and don't see everything in black and white, then I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

The graphics and gameplay are both improved over the original, with some truly spectacular visuals and very involving set-pieces.

It does suffer from some of the same issues the first one had, however. A few fights (especially with the infected) rely a bit too much on getting lucky or trial-and-erroring your way through the environment, and there is one boss fight which can be frustrating until you find the right place to fight it. There are also one or two flashback sections which might have been worked better at different points in the overall narrative, but given how ambitious the storytelling is, I can forgive this.

If you loved the first one and can go into the second with an equally open mind, then you'll love this. Just be prepared to be made uncomfortable by some parts of the game - they do pay off but you're going to come out of this game with very different emotions than you did with the first one.

But, the game fails if we compare some aspects with its predecessor, the audio is inferior, Gustavo Santaolalla is wonderful but it didn't shine here, but what got me most confused was the fact that in a "zombie" apocalypse they were in a single plot, a bisexual, a lesbian, an extremely strong woman who stays with a married man, three Asians, a Latino, two pregnant women, a homophobe, etc ... despite Naughtydog's effort to include several minorities, this was extremely forced , is contrasting with the scenario that the game proposes.

Pacing suffers at times due to the huge duration of the game being 25 hours for most playstyles it could be easly cut down to 18 hours and still be ok. For the story I don't really get why people are so angry, review bombing, harassing actors and directors alike. It's just stupid and only showcases how immature we are as a community. For the story the idea of the cyrcle of violence can be found in every aspect of every character Abby's and Ellie's revenge how much they have lost in the process and how every action further drives them down a hole. Also for a game who handles so many characters it did and honorable job Lev being a great example for a sidecharacter that I genuinely cared. The idea of violence perfectly translates to the gameplay with some of the most raw and brutal combat you've seen in a video game. You can feel the impact in every hit and the pierce in every bullet and the carnage that the player can do. The atmosphere is also so well put, it never fails to evoke a feel of danger and hopelessness paired with some of the most jaw-dropping art direction. The only thing that the game really suffers is meaningful exploration, scrapping for supplies is ok but after the first few hours it feels repetetive. Instead of safes with more loot you could place artifacts that can trigger flashbacks of Joel and Ellie, that I think would modivate more players to search the environments. Overall the more I think about it the more I love it. I don't support the idea that you have to top the first game or give any fun service if it's the kind of story you want to tell. All the people at naughty dog believed in that story and I can respect that and I can also respect every one who played the game and didn't liked it. All an all I enjoyed the game and I applaud naughty dog for being bold with their vision.

The main problem is the story is very depressing....The most depressing I have ever experienced in a video game, and in the year 2020, that’s not a good thing. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's pretty clear from reading the negative reviews that many of them either 1) decided to hate the game when they read out-of-context spoilers, which wrecked their experience, but they're too immature to see that, or 2) they never played the game, but hate "SJWs" and see a chance to blame SJWs for "yet another game wrecked by their agenda." If you're labeling any game that veers from the "straight white protagonist" format as "SJW propaganda," then the problem is you. Grow the f*** up.

Yes, there's LGBTQ+ plot elements but nothing about the story or the characters struck me as "token SJW characters." Many were angry about Joel's death, but the game gave me the full spectrum of emotional experience within 25-30 hours of playtime. It's classic Naughty Dog, and anyone that thinks the Last of Us would make you feel "safe" clearly wasn't paying attention and most certainly did NOT play the original's DLC.

It's not perfect. The game spends more time on the primary characters (Ellie, Abby) and so the secondary character development suffers a bit. They're not terrible, but none of them approach the memorability of Tess or Bill. The open-world format of Seattle Day 1 dragged a bit.

Still... it's not "a revenge game." Go watch John Wick or play one of the countless games already made on that topic. It's much deeper than that. All of the characters--Joel, Ellie, Abby, Tommy, and many others--have done unspeakable things that were "justified" in their eyes. This game is about what we become when we seek revenge, but also about learning to forgive the unforgivable. This last part is more about Joel and Ellie than Ellie and Abby--how do you make peace with someone that was taken from you?

I'm happy to play a game that surprises me. Subverting expectations NEVER guarantees a great story, but playing it safe ALWAYS prevents a memorable one. Kudos to Naughty Dog, I'll happily wait another 5 years for Part III.

And **** all of you going on about trans characters and other 4 Chan **** Head for the door and come back when you learn to think for yourselves.

First off everyone is review bombing this game. There is a lot of anger out there and we all know why.

I admit I was one of those angry people. I saw the leaks and I was upset. I was made that a game I loved so much with characters I had grown so attached to was taken in the direction it was taken in. I wasn't gonna play it- I was 100% out. I work for a review company and I had the chance to be part of the review team and bowed out. Then suddenly thanks to a last-minute change I found myself playing this game.

I went into it wanting to hate it. I wanted to hate the choice they made. But after beating it- I don't. It is a good game. While I still don't like some of the decisions and while I will always dislike many of the characters I still think this is a really solid game.

    1. I know you're upset over what happened. It works though- it works well enough. It does not make the game worse and it honestly works fine
    2. Even after knowing the leaks I was surprised A LOT. There is a lot packed in here and its great
    3. The story is risky. I think that it's far to dour. I love dark games, I love anything gritty. Real-life is not a nice place and I love media that reflects that. This game is WAY over the top. It's far darker than it should be and its far darker than our reality- or a Zombie reality would ever be. It reflects more on what Naughty Dog thinks of us than on reality itself.
    4. The combat is great. It is ultra-intense, in your face, and violent. You feel every punch and shot and it is jarring and engrossing. It similar to TLOU1 but far more visceral and intense. It really is a strong point here
    5. Graphically it is by far and away the best-looking game of this generation. Even RDR2 is outdone by this masterpiece of graphical design.
    6. There are many features and additions that make traversal and movement better. TLOU1 felt like a game- with very strict constraints. TLOU2 feels more lose and free, and it all feels more natural.
    7. Its engorssing and it's fun. It hooked me and kept me glued in for the entire run time.

    It's not perfect though.
-I would have preferred you play as one character rather than more
-I dislike the choices many of the characters make
-There is no character growth or change... well there kinda is but its not great
-The themes are basically "humans are violent and suck- and you all suck". I am not sure that is very interesting, deep, or necessary- its also wrong. We are living through tough times right now and people have shown they are capable of good as much as evil
-The writing is far too dour. There are no smiles, no respites, no moments of joy. Its just a slog of nasty hatred

The biggest flaw of this game is Naughty Dog themselves. I love their past games I am mad at myself for not giving them the benefit of the doubt considering they are batting close to 1000. But recently, or at least since Uncharted 4, they have taken a really "woke" political stance. They don't include female protagonists (only women- no men- for all of their series) because that makes the story better, they do it because they want to display their own virtue as a progressive company.

I am 100% fine with a company taking a political stance. I am fine with an artistic company taking a political stance. I am not ok with a company putting their politics above making good art, and that happened here.

The themes are basically "humans are evil and rotten" and they bash you over the head with that. Its more specifically "you are evil and rotten as a human". The characters make strange decisions and never learn anything. This is strange for Naughty Dog who are usually masterful storytellers than show growth and change in an organic and interesting way.

The reason why this story is worse is because Naughty Dog was more worried about pushing their theme and narrative than making a good game. The top priority was cleary "send this message" and not "tell a good story".

If the goal was a good story first and foremost than the game would be different.

But it is not a bad game- it is a great game by any standard. But it is Naughty Dogs worse game and its because they allowed their own views of humanity and their own desire to lecture and chastise us come before making the best game they could.

This is a game, that made me feel very unusual feelings. The story is tight and sends it's message gracefully and without moralising. If you want a game, that is not just another "kill bad guy, save the girl" but tries to work with the narrative the way only videogame can, you should not buy. But playing it won't be easy because of this

Gostei muito do game. Acredito que nunca antes eu havia visto tanta qualidade técnica em um game. A jogabilidade é perfeita. Os gráficos são fenomenais. As expressões faciais dos personagens são um show à parte. Para mim, o que decepcionou um pouco, foi a questão do enredo um tanto quanto "apelativo". No geral, esse game é uma obra de arte.

I'm only a few hours into this game so far, but I'm gripped. It would be a 10/10 if the UI wasn't a bit confusing and frustrating. I sometimes find it really hard to know how to beat zombies. The characters are believable and interesting and I'm very much enjoying it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I feel like people who played this just couldn't get over the fact Abby killed Joel. I never liked that Joel chose Ellie over the human race so I totally understood Abby's rage but she kept it in check and just killed the guy she wanted to kill. Ellie on the other hand went after anyone and everyone. IMO Ellie was the most bloodthirsty character in the game. My wife and I really liked the story. It was gut wrenching at almost every turn but we got the motivations behind both Ellie and Abby.

I think Abby's story line was lost on many just because they couldn't get over what she did which, if you ask me, plays right into NaughtyDogs theme. Rather than growing to understand someone and learning to forgive(Ellie even says she understands why Abby did it) some players feel they cannot and just let the cycle of hate fester on within themselves. I for one think people gave this game an unfair chance. It was quite unique from anything I've played in a long time. While it was extremely brutal and gut wrenching at times I think they did their job well. 9 outta 10 from me.

People aren't using their brains when discussing this game. TLOU2 is game that talks about violence and revenge being the parts that makes us animals and how we as society need to think critically and not get caught in this horrible cycle. It's not political, and Abby is a good character, literally there's nothing bad about the characters being gay or not, it just shows how there's a big portion of gamers who need to get their **** together and stop being narrow-minded and intolerant.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is one of my favorite games ever. It looks beautiful, I love the gameplay and story. It managed to make me be able to sympathize with Abby who I really wanted to hate. It made me realize that the only reason we took Joel's side was because we played as him and saw things from his perspective. I felt conflicted when Fighting Ellie as Abby and vice versa, because I wanted them both to be able to move on. I did have a couple issue though. Once we got to the climax, the story rewound three days. I wanted to rush through that part because I was dying to know what happened next. I also feel like since Tommy and Joel had just saved Abby's life, she should probably have even a little hesitation before shooting him in the leg and murdering him with a golf club. I also feel like she got a little too lucky with finding Joel almost immediately and having the perfect reason to lure him back to her group. Expand

I loved the game. And I was very shocked by the flood of bad user reviews here, thus decided to write my first review ever to give some more input for people to make an informed decision.

    Graphics, Music, Sounds and Animations

They are simply phenomenal. The animations are not one finished set simply played back, they are made up from all the things your character is currently doing or is close to in this world in a way I have not seen before. E.g. she (your character) wants to jump an obstacle and her left foot would be the dominant one judging from the state of her walking animation, she uses her left foot which ties her into the surroundings so fluently. And the amount of sound feedback you get, when just walking through a plastic curtain adds to that. They even thought of the dust on the floor. Crawl through the dust, it gets wiped away.

Sometimes this animation-combo may look wonky though, there are some occasional graphic-glitches and in certain areas the walking speed doesn’t match the animations, but nothing too serious. 10/10

    Gameplay

It is a consistent improvement of the first part. You feel the same, but everything is better. You have the additional crawling state to be even more stealthy, different heights of grass to dive into and more corners to cut, like cracks in a wall, or crawling under vehicles. Players may also consider this state for your accuracy: Crawling = highest accuracy. Plus all the “arenas” you are in when engaging enemies are now much bigger (as is the world in general). And some of the fights and enemies are special and need different approaches. You really get to engage situations in a lot of different ways.

Physics play a bigger role in the riddles (Cue the rope physics examples) and the distinction between stealth- and walking-phases are broken up. Expect enemies at all times, even when using a workbench. And don’t expect them to be just one faction, keep your guard up at all times.

Paired with what I said about the animation, I got the sensation I had years ago when first playing a game with fire damage. Just. So. Cool.

Having said that, the gameplay is sadly also the weakest part of the game. There is definitely missed potential here or some much too obvious flaws and it does feel repetitive at times.

The riddles are scarce, short and simple. Even getting into the stash rooms or getting safe combinations is not really something that gives you a rewarding feeling in the end, compared to God Of War for example, because it wasn’t that hard.

Enemies get instanced in chunks to steer your experience, taking away your agency. There is one level where you go down a destroyed building and my sniper rifle and hearing could really have given me an advantage here, taking stalkers out from above, but no, they only appeared once I reached the level they are in. In these moments you realize the designers are being in control over your game in a way that is just too obvious.

And one really annoying detail: Sometimes you have to hastily move around a specific item you want to pick up for your character to get just the right angle to finally do it. Bummer.

Overall: Very cool experience, some nasty flaws. 7/10

    Story

As with all Naughty Dog Games by far the best part of it.

I don’t want to say too much here, because spoiling this story will take away everything that is so good about it. But I will say this: It is a long and challenging tale that feels epic and meaningful. It is a slow burner, with lots of ups and downs, that really make you feel. You feel upset, you feel happy, you feel relieved, you feel heartbroken and so on. No twist is arbitrary, everything makes sense. Especially the biggest twist in the beginning.

It starts out as a revenge story though. And if you're not on board with everything your character does, you feel forced by the designers to do something you don’t want to do - e.g. probably sooner than your character, you as the player want her to grow and “be the good guy/girl”. You don’t even get the option of “not acting”, sometimes forcing you to do unspeakable things. That may be crossing a line for some, especially paired with what I already said about feeling steered by the designers. But it’s also not something spoiling the story itself.

Lastly, the storytelling via exploration… it’s perfection. You can spend hours over hours looking at a decayed apartment, reading its inhabitants last notes and imagining what might have happened there. Perfection is all I can say.

Altogether easy 10/10. Would give more if possible.

So overall 9/10, gameplay being the biggest flaw. It’s definitely worth the money. Play it, judge for yourself.

Also: I wouldn’t mind playing a sequel or spinoff with a certain bulky someone at its center.

However, not everyone will enjoy this game because this game is very dark. It is dark and very realistic in how they depict the world. Yes, this game is unpredictable, hence many people may not enjoy this. The story have many depths, that not a casual gamer can just sit around and understand without thinking too much.
I got to admit, at the first act, I was giving a 6, then as it goes to 10. However, at the 2nd act, it drops back to 6, then it increase to 8 and 10 again. In the 3rd act, it drops back to 6 again due to character motivation that I disagree with. When the final climax happened, for the first time, I do not feel like touching my controller to do as the game tells me too. AND THAT is IMPACTFUL. The way the game make me feel the struggle in controlling the character in the final climax...felt so real. The last scene of the game also gave me the understanding I need on the character motivation that i disagree with earlier on. This is why this game is a masterpiece in gaming in the way it tells the dark story about hatred, guilt, consequences. It felt real.

As much as it is a masterpiece, I am giving this game a 9. Not a 10 because I felt, some parts in the game felt a little to long and drags for quite some time. However, in dragging those parts, It successfully build a world which I really feel I am in, and most of all, it really felt like an adventure.

This is a solid game. I am probably over halfway through it and I have not come across anything I would consider overly negative. One annoyance is with how brittle weapons are. I wish they tweaked how easily a pipe or machete breaks. It is like maybe 4 kills and that is with repairing/upgrading them. Maybe this gets better with more upgrades that I don't have yet.

It's a game that takes many bold risks, which I find hard not to admire. Naughty Dog could have easily phoned in a sequel to try and please everyone, yet its decision to take the narrative in an unpredictable direction almost immediately and fully commit to it without compromising is very respectable.

However, the narrative is not without its flaws. My biggest issue with it is the pacing. With a shift in perspective around halfway through, the narrative momentum completely crashes and the game begins to feel very long. By the time the end does come, it feels like it could have been cut short by at least 4 or 5 hours.

I can't find many criticisms for the gameplay, as I feel it improved upon the first game in every way. While the gameplay is pretty much the same, it is more refined and polished. The acting is also fantastic across the board, with Laura Bailey standing out to me as the highlight. It's not easy to take such a controversial role on, but she knocked it out the park.

Overall, this is not as good as the first game - which was more focussed and its message more relatable - but I have to respect this sequel for its sheer audacity for not following what was expected of it. The creators had a story to tell, and they told it. That takes balls.

The new enemy type SCARS were a challenge every time you encountered them in a good way. Enemy would actively spread out and try to flank you. You need to be really strategic to take down a group of them, or be very good at nailing your headshots.

I think the infected are probably the worst bit of this game. Clickers can seem to get alerted to your presence even if you are stationary which I found frustrating at times. An they introduced a few boss infected along the journey too, which were basically just bullet sponges that you just throw everything you have at them then run away. Repeat until boss dead.

In summary, better game play & graphics than the 1st game. I think the story is better overall in part 2, but the story was told better in part 1.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I actually get many of the gripes people have with this game. The waaay in your face social justice bonanza with most named characters being either ethnic minorities or gay (the numerous letters you find in the game included)? Absolutely, very on the nose. Neil Druckmann wants to signal his virtue, and he wants to signal it *hard*, and yes, it detracts from the quality of the game which certainly does not need all this to call attention to itself. The soap opera bits aren't to many people's liking either, and I get where they're coming from. And most prominently, people seem to hate one of their favorite video game characters dying quite unceremoniously – not at the end of the game, but in its prologue.

I hated to see him go, too. We were supposed to, obviously. But we were also supposed to get past that and realize why things happened the way they happened, and that this wouldn't have worked with, say, Tommy or some other character we weren't as invested in. This isn't like offing John Connor within the first two minutes of Terminator - Dark Fate, thereby negating all that's been achieved in T2. This is more like offing the main character Ned Stark of Game of Thrones in the first season – because he *needs* to die for the story to be told.

TLOU2's story is very, very much in the same vein as the first game. Customers celebrated the daring move of killing off Sarah at the end of TLOU's prologue, the abruptness, the brutality, the senselessness. We were supposed to get our empathy working and believing that Sarah was most precious to Joel, since she just had a few minutes to grow on us. This time someone dies horribly, just like Sarah did before, but he's precious to *us*. We've spent countless hours with him, of course we don't wanna see him get beaten to death. But even in the first game he wasn't the pivotal character, even though for the majority of it we were supposed to think he was.

Joel's death sends Ellie down a dark path peppered with experiences she'll never recover from. The way the game shows her descent into self-medicating her PTSD by become more and more of a monster and less and less of a person is masterfully done. Everytime when she reaches a pivotal point and has the opprtunity to stop and reflect and make a good decision, she decides to put up the blinders and continue on her path which thereby gets harder and harder to leave. The more she learns, the more she has to ignore those informations and concentrate on embracing her hate until it consumes almost all of her. What that does to that spunky little girl we got to know seven years ago is daring and expertly written, directed and acted out. We feel just a bit like her: We too want vengeance, but where most of us would eventually stop, she presses on and thereby forces us players to press on. At the end, we play a shadow of the person Ellie used to be. Gradually we lose our connection to the main protagonist, until we do *not* want what she wants anymore, and yet we have to enable her to achieve goals that aren't ours anymore, just by playing her.

When the point of view changed and I found myself playing Abby not just in a flashback, when I realized that I would obviously have to play her for as long as I had played Ellie before, I was furious. Sure, I didn't thirst for her blood as much as in the beginning, but I didn't want to start the game over and play her. But within an hour or two I found myself identifying with her as much as I had with Ellie – and further down the road so much more. The way the game achieves this is manipulative, yes, but every game that wants to elicit an emotional response from the player has to manipulate them, and this game knows how to pull out all the stops. Maybe identifying with Ellie and her motivation we're all very familiar with – avenging a loved one is the plot of countless movies and games, after all – made many players see the code instead of the Matrix, maybe that's what made them notice all the tricks the game used to make the player identify with Abby, and feeling manipulated, they took on a repudiating stance towards her? But if you keep an open mind and accept that the game presents you with an "antagonist" who's morally much more wholesome and human than the protagonist you enjoyed playing before, you get Ellie's "what if" mirror image. Abby makes Ellie's downward spiral so much more heartbreaking because what Ellie keeps throwing away, bit by bit, until there's almost nothing left, is what Abby has kept: the last of us. Humanity.

    - Fantastic sound design, that can truly set the mood

    Cons
    - The spoilers before the game launched. This really destroyed the impact this game could have had.
    - Characters that fill up the world can look low quality in comparison to main characters. Ps4 limits?
    - Climbing down from ladders is a pain in the ...
    - No multiplayer

This is a special game and something I would recommend anyone playing. For me, its a masterpiece.

Visually & Audio wise the best looking and sounding game ive ever played and I have a 2080ti in my PC. An amazing world with insane detail, I couldnt stop taking screenshots! Amazing gameplay with the best AI ive ever seen in this style of game. Story wise, It wasnt perfect but its no way near close as bad as people make it out to be.. Abby was justified in killing Joel & playing in her perspective shows there is no true villain and just a people dealing with the outcomes of their actions.

This game made me feel emotions not many have, I felt bad killing dogs just like someone would in real life.. doesnt mean the game is bad.. This game intentionally tries to make you feel bad, and some people cant handle that.

The story might not have turned out how people expected/wanted but that does not make it a bad one.. People think they know these characters inside out after 25 hours of game play from the first.

Ignore the negativity hype train and people running their agendas around muscley women & transgenders, it did not feel in any way to be virtue signalling or social justice attempts..

The story wasnt perfect though hence my score.

Visuals 10/10 (check out accessibility options where you can increase FOV)
Sound 10/10 (Amazing detail and 3d placement)
Story 9/10 (Some odd decisions here and there but not even close to the hate it got)

At time of writing this game had 5.7 user score, so much trash has higher scores, dont let that persuade you from a must play.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.
    **SPOILER ALERT**

I loved the first game, but don’t like being force fed politically correct messaging, and I was seriously considering sitting this one out. I’m glad that I didn’t. The Last of Us Part 2 is a great ride.

First, I believe the biggest reason for not liking this game revolves around people’s expectations going into it. If you go in heavily invested in certain characters, or specific endings, you’re more likely to be disappointed than someone with no expectations. I fell into the latter camp. For me, no one was safe in this apocalypse, not even the characters I cared most about. As a result, the story’s direction didn’t bother me. I accidentally caught a few spoilers before starting, but even then was caught off guard by the numerous plot twists. I found the story compelling, all of the characters’ decisions are consistent with who they are as people.

Second, I enjoyed the game play mechanics from the first game and this one plays the same. I feel like there were some missed opportunities to add more weapons and gear, but it delivers the same stealth/shooting/scavenging/crafting experience that I loved from the original.

For a lot of people, minds have been made up before playing. But I encourage anyone who hasn’t played it yet to give it a chance, you might be glad you did.

So the score is already skewed. Then again, there are people that genuinely take issue in the game's story and plot developments, and that is fair. But that even those people give it a 0? ****
Even if you don't like the story, no way in hell is this game a 0 and it's messed up that people use reviews just to make a petty statement.

Let's actually review the game, shall we?

From the moment the game starts, it's clear that ND have outdone themselves when it comes to audio-visual presentation. The game simply looks phenomenal and it's still hard for me to believe they squeezed this performance out of a PS4.

Gameplay is largely unchanged from the first part. Granted, I haven't played it in years, but it felt pretty much just like playing the predecessor. There are some minor additions and tweaks to traversal and gunplay, but if you're familiar with how TLOU part 1 played, you'll be right at home here.
The big difference however is the level design, which is much more open and natural, and sometimes simply visually spectacular.

Story and characters: if you haven't spoiled the game yourself by reading the leaks, then surely this game will not go the way you think. Which, to me, meant that there were a lot of surprises and I constantly felt the need to push on to discover how the story unfolds. I very often read that people found the characters to be unlikable, too grim or that they could not relate to them. Personally, I cannot understand those sentiments. To me, each character's motivation was always clear, even if some choices needed a little time to become clear. "Ellie is not the positive counterweight to this dark world anymore" Well, no **** Her world has been shattered several times. And people can't relate to that? I'm starting to ask myself if some people just have a problem with basic empathy.

All in all, I found the story and the characters compelling enough to keep me awake into the early hours of the day several times, as I just couldn't stop playing and forgot the time. Only really great games can do this to me.

You didn't enjoy the story? That's fine. People have different tastes, not everyone will like this. But the problem I predominantly see in the reviews here is that people had certain expectations going into this game, which weren't fulfilled. And the reaction is to go onto a hate tirade against the game director and review bomb the game online. And I'm quite frankly sick and tired of this "entitlement" online hate mob. "The game director did not please the fans, BURN HIM AT THE STAKE!" How petty is that? I can't get my head around it.

In general, audiences constantly demand something new. They want to be surprised, they don't want stories to be predictable. However, if you take it "too far" as a director, and you do not fulfill people's expectations, prepare to get bombarded with hate. I'm not even going into the "political agenda" bull**** many people out there are getting upset over. If you have a problem with a game including characters with different sexual orientation than yours, or a different idea about gender identity, then GTFO. It's 2020 and if this stuff offends you, please go back to the past and stay there.

Ellie has a girlfriend. Oh no.
Lev decides that he does not want to conform to the gender role that was forced upon him and wants to live his life as he sees fit.

That's all. That's literally all. And number one shouldn't even be a surprise because Ellie was already outed as gay years before TLOU II was released. People are up in arms because of THIS? What. The. Hell.

Just like TLOU I was a master piece, so is this one. The acting is superb. The graphics are insane. The game play is solid and tense. The story and the characters took hold of me for the entire duration of my play time and three days after finishing it, I am still processing it. On the cover, it might be a simple revenge story, but in reality it has much more nuance and more layers than just that.
The stakes are not as high as they were in part 1 (potentially saving the world), and it's much more personal this time around. But it's still a very emotional game, for very different reasons, and at least for me, it totally worked.

    9/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Doubtlessly the best game I wish never had been made.

The first installment in this series is one of my favourite games of all time and I've long lost count of how many times I've replayed it. Thus I was enraged when I suddenly had Joel beaten to death on my screen. Hell, he was like a father to me. An on screen father, but still. Anyhow, at that point I couldn't keep playing. My hands were shaking and I couldn't think straight. All I knew was that I hated the game and Naughty Dog. That I probably should brake the game disk in two and send fungal spores to Naughty Dog. But in the end I realized that I hated someone else even more. Abby. The b*tch who broke my heart.

So I decided that I might very well brake the game disk eventually and write a bad review. But not until I had my revenge on Abby and all of her loved ones.

For a few hours my hatred burned too hot for me to enjoy much of the game. Dina felt like a nuisance and all dialogue and interactions not directly related to my search for revenge felt pointless.

Then there came flashback. A memory of Ellie, Joel and some dinosaurs trying on hats. And that's when the grief truly hit me. A flood of tears dampened the fires of hatred and suddenly I could feel again. Not much, but enough to take in the world again.

A few hours later Dina turned out to be pregnant, and suddenly I felt a tiny bit of something for her too. Not that I liked her, really. But that I wanted to keep her safe. Protected. Just as Joel had kept "me" safe for the previous game.

Anyhow, from there on I really enjoyed the game. It made me realize how pointless hatred and revenge really is. Because in the end, you only give someone else reason to hate you as much as you hated that someone. And on it goes.

To sum things up this game was an emotional roller coaster. Terrible, dark and painful in ways I've never experienced in a game before. Or in any other media, in fact. So, yes, this is a great game. Even though I would have been happier if it never had been made.

You had Ellie and Joel bonding and travelling to find the fireflies in hopes of retrieving a cure;Joel made one important decision and that was it. The second game, I felt juggled and balanced more characters, and subplots to make the game far more dynamic and interesting. The game play is relatively the same compared to the first, with a few minor additions and open environments to make it a little more interesting. The graphics are second to none. Whether you dislike the story or not, everyone can agree that every other aspect of the game is absolutely stunning. IMO, that doesn't warrant anything under a 6. Story is only one aspect of a AAA game and its the most subjective. Take all of those terrible reviews with a grain of salt.

I love how almost every door is openable, i love how in certain sections of the game its explorable, also i love how you can see destintion out in the distance and you slowly making your way towards it thru the ruined city. That is awesome. Very very beautifuelly build world and enviorment, they developers completly made great job for the detail of the envoiroment, and made it alot of fun looking for goodies and checking every cornor for upgrades .

    3) gameplay. 9.5/10 its really enjoyable to find your own path, and a way you want to tackle enemies. Stealth thru, use traps, silently kill them with pistol and bow or sneak up murder, throw bottle to attract zombies to attack other humans or outright gun blazing. The combat is alot of fun AI is smarter than in most games like this. They hear you, smell you, try to go around you, slowly advance on you from cover to cover. Try to out number you. Do you flee, fight, or sneak thru. Either way what ever you choose it will leave you wanting more.

Overall i think length of game was good, interesting to see different parts of the city, which was beautifuelly made. The story was also done in awesome interesting way and i see what deveoplers had went for and i understand it as a whole. I say give it a shot the game is well made.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So, I finished The Last of Us Part II this morning and was left with emotions. I felt really sad for Ellie, ended up all alone, like Joel once was... I kinda agree with the ending, Ellie sparing Abby's life because Naughty Dog was going for an ending which didn't feature a useless nature of cyclic revenge and also if you think about it, Abby got what she deserved. Death wouldn't have been worth it for her. She learnt her lesson the hard way. Well I know we all would've loved it if she had killed Abby ofc lol but having this ending doesn't feel bad either. Ellie has always been a kind and strong character and they showed it. Like they say, "The best revenge is forgiveness" since that is a much harder thing to do. This sequel shows the reality of life, how the world has changed into this chaotic crap.. so a gesture of kindness can change certain things.
I always loved the message Naughty Dog portray with their games, like with Uncharted series and now this. Both Nathan and Ellie WANTED something but at the end, they got what they NEEDED. Inner Peace.
I was so happy to see the last scene of Joel and Ellie on the balcony, I kept thinking, Joel never got to talk to Ellie and she was being a **** to him but it all went away with that.
Moving on, the gameplay was so top notch, I never had this much fun playing a videogame. Naughty Dog has really hit it off with this game. Even the graphics. I recently got my platinum for Uncharted 4 and noticed so many little details that I missed on my first playthrough, it was such an amazing game and now with The Last of Us II--they have set up the bar even higher!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think there are four main problems most review bombers have: 1. You‘re playing a gay character and her sexuality is displayed in the game. „Politics are being shoved down their throats“. Gay people exist... and they make out. Get over it.

    2. They can‘t handle Joels death. The game makes you feel uncormfortable at times. 3. You have to play as Abby, who is not „hot“ and more tanked than 80% of the male players... aaaand killed Joel.

    4. Lev is a trans person, although i don‘t think a lot of the 0 score reviewers have played long enough to get to know Lev.

I had a blast. I had to think of it for days after I finished it and now I‘m starting New Game +. I didn‘t feel comfortable or happy about some plot points as well, but that’s the point. TLOU2 makes you question your characters choices and turns a simple revenge plot into a complex and dark character study. What I also read a lot: It has good graphics, but...

It doesn‘t have just „good graphics“... The world they have built is absolutely incredible. So much detail and scope. Amazing physics and stellar acting that transfers to the virtual characters so vividly. These are people, not videogame characters. I don‘t know what ND does different about their characters compared to other games, but they just pop. Each and every side character has imperfections and personality, it‘s just amazing.

The only downside to me is the gameplay. Don‘t get me wrong, it all works fine and it’s fun to play, but I don‘t like the clear pacing of setpieces. You are always „told“ what situation you are running into. I don‘t want to know if I‘m safe when exploring or if clickers are in the area. It‘s an unpredictable and brutal world, so please don‘t take the tension out of it by letting me know what type of enemy will be next.

Technically perfect game, almost perfect gameplay, over the top graphics and facial expfessions. Regarding the story it’s definitely something different from the original, it may not be your cup of tea but it’s an incredibly daring gamble that in my opinion pays off almost completely.
