    After seven long years of waiting for the sequel and a continuation to the incredible story that naughty dog told with TLOU this game had high expectations, it is my honor to say, they did not deliver, at least story-wise, the game is beautiful, it truly pushes the PS4 to its limits, but the story is so horrendous I am impressed that people got through the game.

    Emotionally exhausting. I really dont know if I love or hate this game, but the emotional toll it has put upon me shows how this game marvels in storytelling. Some parts of the game I just wanted to skip storywise (though necessary for the story it wanted to tell), but the gameplay was phenomenal. It was so fun. It felt so dynamic throughout. Even crafting felt fun and dynamic. Again, thisEmotionally exhausting. Few movies has managed that for me. (Spoiler: seeing the shell that Ellie becomes is really tough. Only sadness is left in the end, and I cant help being angry with the creators for making the game this way). But I'm invested, because it was a good game. Thus the rating.… Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is a masterpiece exceeding its predecessor in every way with its non cliche and complex story and superb gameplay, Naughty Dog has delivered again.

    Amazing graphics and level design, good gameplay but a bit repetitive. About the story, I get what they were trying to do, but it didn't click with me, so given the story is what I value the most about this franchise, I can't give this game a better score.

    Really “enjoyed”this game.Good story,great gameplay and real characters.I don’t know why many people get mad,because potentially is the best game ever made since now.Good job Druckman!!!

    The story and characters are not the best, but not as bad as others quite make it out to be. They are just butthurt about Joel dying and having to play as another person than Ellie (maybe 2/5 of the game).    … Expand

    The art design is superb - it has set the bar so high I can’t even think of many games that look as good as this.

    The story is controversial to say the least but the storytelling is so good that it constantly makes you feel what the characters are feeling at each point in the game. Like the first one, you may not agree with the characters about the decisions that they have made but that’s the beauty of it. There’s a a lot of uncomfortable and gut-wrenching moments but if you think about the events that have happened, you will realize why it all makes sense. The story can be difficult to chew and probably not for everyone and that’s why I think it’s beautiful.

    The gameplay will be so much fun if you’re into the past Naughty Dog games like me. The enemies can be really scary and you will see how much they care about each other just like Joel and Ellie.

    Going back the story, it is controversial but very appropriate for our society today. In my opinion, you should be okay about the message that the game wants to convey if you’re not a bigot. :)    … Expand

    The struggle throughout the game contribute to the harsh gritty reality of that world and it also adds to the storyline in a way that only video game can do. I don't think the plot twists were shocking at all, but in fact, the motives of main characters are straight forward, relatable and predictable. The juxtaposition of the two main protagonists is done to a great effect.

    There is no other game like this out there. ND pushes story telling to a new level and it might not appeal to everybody, but it makes you think of your actions and what impact it has on the people around you

    This hurts to right but truly this game was just horrid. The writing was messy and it just went for shock value. Not worthy to be apart of this franchise, should be re-written to follow Joel and Ellie in search for a cure.

    Visual/audio - 8/10 - Great
    This is the strong point of TLOU2, and I can see why one might even go as far as to say it is the key feature of the game.
    The level of detail is high, the environment feels very realized (for this kind of lineair experience) and it very much deserves the praise. However, as you go through the game you will notice more and more flaws, mainly in the form of the    Visual/audio - 8/10 - Great

However, as you go through the game you will notice more and more flaws, mainly in the form of the environment that does not make sense. I did not really felt the environment to be repetitive though.
    The same can be said for animations, very good, but you'll notice flaws as the game goes on. But even considering those flaws, still great visuals.
    Audio is not the greatest focus here as I think it was in the original. While certain audio cues certainly did enhance the experiences, I think this could be a bit better in terms of impact.

    Gameplay - 7/10 - Good
    If you have played the original TLOU you know what to expect. I think it is fine.
    I did not like the dodge mechanic. It is very strict, and the animations during combat show their repetitiveness very early on.
    Gunplay is okay, but the sway makes it very difficult to make headshots - which is fine I suppose. You can modify your weapon to help you with this.
    I did like the customization in the game. One aspect I would like to see improved is ammo capacity, by e.g. craft an extra ammo pouch for a few extra rounds as I felt many times I had to pass on ammo when I found it, because the game tells me I cannot carry more.
    Stealth, which is what I mainly did, is good. You have more options now compared to the original game (like hiding in grass).
    Weapons and crafting - as Ellie I feel you have several options in how you could handle an encounter if stealth doesn't work. It is expanded on compared to the original, and I did like the new items. Further in the game something changes, and I could not help but feel my options being reduced. I am not sure if this was the intent of the developer.

    Narrative/story - 3/10 - Bad
    I loved it as much as I hated it. I won't go into detail, as this would require spoilers.
    At the end of the first half, I wanted more of that. When the second half began, I was contemplating myself if I would continue. Never before did my opinion of a game change so fast. I chose to finish it but a thought of dislike for the game came up often.
    In the first half it is somewhat like the original, likeable characters and here and there genuine good dialoge and events. These made me feel for the characters. Due to a certain event though some things are inconsequential, so I was not sure why the developer chose that structure. That could be better.
    It did not help that in the second half, when some events happen, I did not feel anything for it. Not the characters, not the hardship they experience(d), etc.
    When the credits rolled, I was not feeling anything. The second half really did hurt the whole narrative experience for me.
    In the end, I hoped for much more than I was given from a narrative perspective. Because of how the events played out in terms of structure and inconsequential events, I feel this is worse than just a poor narrative, which is why I think this is a 3/10.

    Overall
    6/10 - As said before I loved it as much as I hated it. Considering everything, this is a great game with a bad narrative. So if you like TLOU for it's narrative and dialogue/characters, I think chances are high you will leave this game with disappointment. So, as someone who loved TLOU, I find it difficult to recommend it.
    If you like the gameplay and environment of the original and did not really care for the story/characters, then TLOU2 might be an excellent game for you.
    If you are new to TLOU2, and you like a harsh post apocalyptic world, you might like this but do consider if the narrative is important for you. I would recommend to play the original TLOU first before considering the sequel.

    The developper said this would be a divisive game. I really think the developpers underestimated the fanbase on this, in a bad way. I cannot understand how the decisions they made would be the best for the game or for the franchise.

    Este juego es una auténtica locura de inicio a fin. Le pongo un 9 porque es verdad que ciertas partes de la historia son conveniencias del guión y un final que deja un poco frío y que pierde algo de coherencia con el punto de inflexión en Ellie. Técnicamente es una bestialidad y lo mejor que he visto en la historia de los videojuegos.

    I don't usually complain about games being too long, but when they're this repetive and go on for over 20 hours when they could've been done in 15, it's also a con.

    Some aspects of the game are great, some are terrible. Sadly, this is mostly a movie-like game -- A cinematic experience, if you will. If the writing is not good, if the story doesn't hit you, the whole package falls apart. This is what happens with The Last of Us part II.

    The game was incredibly good, but I have mixed feelings, feelings of emptiness, feelings of anger, but I understand why it happened, why it had to be that way. I think everyone should play it.

    I give the rating 10/10 because the game has flies but it's still worth the story.

    Funny thing is that they try to please a certain type of audience that doesn't even play games and they **** on the people that in the end of the day are paying for their jobs.

    Graphics and fluid animations are not enough to justify the price..

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game really took me on a emotional rollercoaster. With the death of Joel I was immediately in rage mode. I literally paused the game for like 30min and I wanted Abby dead. Through the whole game playing as Ellie that was all on my mind and I didn't care to kill anyone. The game really makes you feel this as it shows flask backs with Joel and Ellie (real tough) and kinda made me more upset. But through the journey you take a lot of lives and you can see it starts to way on Ellie and it did for me as well. The game take you through killing majority of the crew that killed Joel until you end up killing Abby's lover and and the woman bearing his child and her. This takes a big toll on Ellie. Through all of this Ellie isn't the only at risk. She puts her lover Dina and close friend Jesse. Dina is actually pregnant and I believe this is why it was so hard on Ellie knowing she killed someone that was pregnant like Dina. The story doesn't end there; it then makes you play as Abby. OMG at first this pissed me off. Personally I let her die a lot on purpose but as her story was revealed it was just sad for both her and Ellie. Abby is the daughter to one of the fire fly doctors that Joel killed at the end of the first game that also wanted revenge. Overall this story is great and not in the way I anticipated at all. This isn't perfect and sometimes the enemy AI is clueless or extra hard for example the clickers would still react towards me being to close though they can't see. Unless there's something I don't know I don't understand that part. Gameplay is still what the last of us is supposed to be but I wish the stealth would've been better or more options. This was a great representation of the cycle of hate and revenge and a long story at that. And I'm glad I got to experience it with avoiding spoilers.85/100… Expand

    Reading through all these hate comments, the game just makes more and more sense, and becomes more and more real. So many people blinded by hate and on refusal to understand that actions have consequences and that stories always have to sides. This game left me thinking about it for days after I beat it, and I'm still thinking about it a week later. Gradually seeing the player ratings come up, just shows that the people who actually played the game are begging to show up and understand it for what it is. To be this divisive and to create this raw emotion into people is enough evidence that this game is packed with emotion and powerful narrative And storytelling.

The gameplay is heavily restricted by a corridor system that pushes you in one specific way, often preventing you to backtrack even the slightest bit. I would have to reload a previous save and replay that part in order to not miss out on loot / collectibles. This is very frustrating and feels very restricted / claustrophobic (in a bad way). In the second part the story goes on and on and feels pointless. The game wears you out with repetitive looting, non explorable corridors, constant tension, lack of music, bad pacing and horrible character choices. I thought of quitting the game a couple of times.
    In the end the storytelling is very engaging and gripping nonetheless. This game has a weird mixture of things I love deeply as well as things I hate just as much.    … Expand

What I liked the most is the fact that many things felt intuitive for me as a player. My first approach to do something, like breaking a window into an empty building or using the cables to move around, was respected even though it wasn't the intended approach. Also, the graphics are stunning and they help a lot with the experience. The amount of animations for every single character and interaction with an object are incredible and diverse.

    On the other hand I have mixed feelings about the story. Abby's story and carachter development is superb. We see her grow as a person and deal with her past in a very good way. I liked that the main characters died as they would die in the real world. Not dying as heroes fighting against ordes of zombies and enemies, but with a simple mistake that lead them to get shooted. Ellie's story was good, but I would liked more exploration in her relationship with Dina and the times she spent with Joel after the first game (Possible DLC), as well as more guitar moments. On Ellie's side I didn't like that her character limited to a vengeance story, which doesn't ressemble Joel's teachings to her or so. Also something had to happen with the fact that she's inmune, that was the whole plot of the first game.

    Hope the next entry fixes this mistakes, but overall it was an excelent game.    … Expand

    In the technical section, it is crazy game. You may like the story more or less, but it is undeniably one of the best games in the history of ps4.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all, I’d like to say that I have completed the game on the Survivor difficulty level and I achieved the platinum in this game. So, I think that my opinion has some weight.
    This is nor 10/10, nor 4/10. This game is 8-9/10. The story is great. When you play as Ellie you want to avenge for Joel’s death at any cost because of the first game. When you play as Abby the game tells us about her motives, her friends, her thoughts and there we find out about another side of the coin. Also we find out more about WLF and the Scars conflict. During Abby’s story I had a thought that Abby is more sensitive than Ellie who just wants to kill every last one of them at any cost. So I have no questions to the story. It’s clear 9/10.
    What about the gameplay. Gameplay looks pretty good and from the first fights you find out about the differences between the first and the second parts of the game. When you play as Ellie - it’s more stealth-combat gameplay. And for Abby you have all the tools for pushing forward. So, the first one is more meditative and the second is more aggressive. So are the perks. But the gameplay haven’t changed much since the first game was released. Okay, we can prone now and do silencers, but that’s all? I liked the gameplay of the first game and I like this gameplay at all, but without any great improvements I can’t rate it with the highest score. 7/10 for gameplay. And about the technical side of the game. The graphics looks great, but it’s not the best I’ve ever seen. The best is in RDR2. Next up, this game plays without any lags on PS4. That’s fantastic. But, unfortunately, this game has some minor bugs with animations or with textures loading or sometimes with NPC AI. All in all, this game is pretty polished, but you’ll definitely see some bugs. 8/10
    All in all, I wouldn’t even think to write down this review. But I see how people dislike this game and this is all about LGBT+ and killing Joel. So, I give this game for Metacritic’s score improvement I give 10/10.

I tried everything to like it but I just found it very boring and dry. 25 hours of gameplay with a badly written story, characters with no depth that I never felt a connection too (unlike all previous naughty dog games) false advertising in the fact it was shown from trailers etc that Joel would be in the game not Abby, the 10 hours of Abby gameplay that wasn’t revealed as I just mentioned and the awful ending that makes the whole game completely null and void. A story about revenge and true horror of the human psyche which just crumbles into nothingness and Ellie never gets her revenge it’s ridiculous. Worst AAA title for a long time. I’m glad people like it but to me that story was just not up to my standards. Everything other than the story was phenomenal the graphics, the music, sounds and gameplay were 10/10 unfortunately the story was 4/10 so I tired to balance it with my 6/10. 7/10 at very best.… Expand

Gripping survival settings paired with emotional plot which pushes you "player" to your breaking point. Immersive music and sound works which keeps you on edge always. Twist at every corner with tragedy yet perfect in every way possible. To conceive a story as good as The Last of Us part 1 and pushing it even further takes immense focus and teamwork which Naughty dog has produced for us to experience under Neil Druckmann's directorship. People who shun this game are tethered to the character form previous game, which is understandable. I felt the same way but you "everyone" need to see the game through to understand why.     A huge letdown, this game really did a number on me. I waited 7 years for this, avoided all the spoilers, got myself the special edition and couldn't wait to see what was in store. This game just takes the first one (a masterpiece imo) and burns it, kicks it, stomps on it and spits on it.     The first is the graphics and overall gameplay which are amazing, the scenery adds to the overall bleakness of the settings perfectly, the character models are done with an attention to detail missing in most games, the overall gameplay loop gets slightly repetitive nearer the end but generally is enjoyable.
    Unfortunately what lets this game down, and is seriously disappointing to say having waited years for a follow up, is the story (the main reason I play games), ignoring the controversy before launch, the story is dull, its all about how killing is bad and violence begets violence. I understand this is an important lesson but should have been a backing note behind an immersive story following characters I genuinely care about. Instead new bland unlikable (probably because the story is so terribly written) characters are introduced and favourites are killed off early (badly done, purely for shock value) removing one of the most enjoyable aspects of the first game. The characters have barely developed and in some cases have regressed. To sum up the story is badly written, badly paced, with very little care or attention given to the aspects of the first game which made it so popular.
    I've rated this game so harshly because for me the story makes the game, and the disregard given to this games story is painful. The game is a shadow of the first, all of the darkness but with none of the light to balance it out.
    p.s. the Game Directors multiple different cameos just stink of a massive ego and its distracting from the game. Neil Druckmann is no Stan Lee, Quentin Tarantino or Hideo Kojima so stay out of the game.
    p.s.s the trailers for the game have scenes created for the specific purpose to lie to the gamer, showing the gamer what they wanted and then changing them in the actual game.    … Expand

    I don't get why this game is so hated. The ending is fine but its all about the journey in my opinion. This game is a roller coaster of emotions and the game plays the same as the first game but way more refined and improved.

    Reading the "story plot holes" add confusion into the game that just wasn't there for me personally whilst playing the game. Ellie and Abby being "out of character" because they didn't ultimately want to kill each other in the final scenes (after both practically nearly kill each other in two sperate occasions), Abby had already had her revenge for starts and whilst a shell shocked and confused Ellie is deciding Abby's fate and cutting her loose, goes and back forth on her decision, and finally chooses to break the cycle of revenge, forgiving Abby to a degree and ultimately finally forgiving Joel. Killing Abby and/or Lev could potentially have repercussions that would follow Ellie on throughout the next chapter. I also think/imagine how you'd both feel if the last 10 years or so of your existence, are so full of hate and death, you would eventually learn killing in revenge doesn't necessarily get you anywhere. Thinking about Dina and JJ, they would never be safe. Ellie would then be the monster.

    Ellie being "out of character" because she left Dina and JJ behind, I also didn't get. These scenes start with an Ellie that is finally happy and somewhat settled. However when something so haunting & engulfing such as the constant visions of Joel being killed, sparked by anything and everything wont allow you to live a normal life, of course drastic measures would be taken, I think Ellie knew Dina and JJ would return to safety in Jackson, and would hopefully be reunited one day.

    Also saying Joel is out of character because he handed over his details to the random group of people, this is the only questionable bit in my opinion. He has gone from a cold hearted killer who would never do something like this, to having to learn how to live in a community again and seemingly this group of people are not SCARS or infected, nor did they try and kill Joel and Tommy on sight like most "bad people", Jackson needs as many good people as it can get if it wishes to survive. It was definitely a mistake on his part, but sadly everyone makes mistakes and he got what was always going to catch him up, the sheer amount of firefly's and other innocent people he murdered with no remorse whatsoever, a phenomenal character, but not exactly
    an innocent saint. He killed the last 3 surgeons that had anything to do with the virus, who were also trying to save humanity and do their job, I'm still glad he did what he had to do to save Ellie though!

    To say a game is bad/shocking because you don't AGREE with the story is wrong. The graphics, the gameplay, the game environment, the mechanics and pacing were second to none for me. I also really enjoyed the story and how it shows you how perspective plays a big role in evil. Making you start to love and care for characters you absolutely detest at first, I don't know any other game to try this.

    I cannot wait to play it through again!

No need to pay attention to LGBT or racial issues. This is just a game, it is what the developer sees it. I was in love in the first part of the game and went through it several times. I haven’t played many games several times. In the second part, I waited for a very long time. I want to note that I did not expect a specific plot. I was just waiting for the sequel. The graphics are superb, especially with good TV. The gameplay is the same as in the first part - it's cool. The plot is good, just good. Nothing supernatural, but not **** as many tutus write. The average percentage completion of 31-35 according to various sources. I don’t think that people who write * game **** * went through it to the end.
    My humble opinion is that the game is worth playing and understanding what is important to you.    … Expand
