This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Went in expecting another amazing game by Naughty Dog and was blown away by The Last of Us Part 2. Gameplay and graphics had serious upgrades from the first game, encounters felt more fluid with more options to interact and ways to navigate situations, and the infected were less of a set-piece and actually felt like a part of the game's world. Graphics wise, as demonstrated by trailers, this game looks beautiful.

    *Spoiler Alert*

Story wise, part 1, featuring Ellie, is enjoyable and her flashbacks with Joel and other people are sad and interesting to watch. Do pacing issues exist? Yeah, 100%, but for me, I don't think it took away from the game itself. Part 2, featuring Abby, was interesting. I didn't feel motivated to play the game for a few hours, but eventually, I started to dig into her story and enjoy it. I would say the second half of the Abby portion is more intriguing than the first half.

Great game, glad I bought it and purchased it, and highly recommend it to other people.

Seriously, they should have named the game "the last of us : Abby"... that way nobody would have expected Ellie to play any kind of role... also, they try really hard to make Abby likeable and make us prefer her over Ellie... Yeah, af if that would play out well... crap Game, looks good, but thats about it. Safe your Money.

    Here is my spoiler-free review:

(Overall) If you enjoy a suspenseful dark story and intense brutal gameplay, then this will be amazing for you. I loved everything about it. I can say for sure that it beat the first game for me and every other game I've played. It is not as adventurous as the prequel, since the environments explored was reduced but this is not enough to decrease my rating.

(Gameplay) The gameplay is very immersive and on par with God of War intensity. The animations and attention to detail are like no other. There is lots of exploration opportunities, but not too much to get bored. Some might not like the gameplay of a particular section of the game, but it will eventually make sense.

(Story) The story is my favorite part, which might raise some eyebrows - the sheer tension and thriller makes you so involved as a player. You will definitely not agree with some events that occurs, but this is exactly why it makes it so haunting and memorable. I have never felt so invested in a story with dark and gritty characters.

Play it until the very end before you make a final judgement - it is genius.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For the most part the Last of us Part 2 was really enjoyable. The stealth, gunplay and overall gameplay was advanced from the first game. The graphics were amazing some of the best that I have ever seen rivaling such games like Red dead Redemption 2 and God of War. The Sound design and the soundtrack were both really incredible some of the best sound design ever, I especially love the sound of shattering glass sounded amazing each time.

But lets get to the most controversial part of the game the story itself. Characters from the first were almost completly different before especially Joels brother tommy who behaves almost nothing like the first game. Joels the death was one of the worst deaths in an entertainment product and wasn´t at all justified. Also most of the characters were really terribly written and I didn´t care for them, only jesse, ellies friend but he was killed anyway so it didn´t matter at the end. Lets get to the most controversial new character in the game, the plot twist with her parents being the doctors that Joel kills at the end of the first was really dumb. Abby generally wasn´t an interesting character to beginn with and her friends were even worse. They all get killed and you don´t even care for them and I don´t even want to start about the laughable sex scene in Abbys part of the game. Also the devs clearly wanted to give abby a lot of screentime considering that this was supposed to be focused more on ellie and it becomes even more because in the course of the game gets the best weapons and equipment. The ending to this game was very dissapointing basiclly making my 30 hours journey worthless and ellie just wondering off in the distance all one basiclly achieving nothing.

At the end the Last of Us 2 was still really enjoyable and fun for the most part. Even tough it is sad to see what this franchise has turned into. It even more saddens me that Naughty Dog could have done so much better looking at their last few games like Uncharted 4. Even tough I gave this game such a high score I am still very dissapointed in Neil Druckmann and his team.

We feel every kind of emotion, practically what Ellie feels too, after someone's death. Hate, anger, sadness etc. And our first thought is so kill every one of them (same thought Ellie has). But in the middle of the game we get to play as Abby and experience her side, her story. I know it takes some time to get over the fact that you're playing her but give it a chance - that's what my friend told me and I'm glad I did.. After killing Abby countless times the moment I got to play her. As the story continues and we get to know more of her, the fact, she's just trying to survives in this messed up world like Joel & Ellie. Ellie and Abby both are blinded by anger, same with the player but as the story continues we get a more cleared view of the whole situation. We turn from the monster that wants to kill every single one of them to a more moral person. And it starts to make you think if killing all those people was correct. Touchy and a big risky subject that ND took and for that they got my respect. btw: Soundtrack The Last Of Us Part II > The Last Of Us, fight me. Expand

So the score is already skewed. Then again, there are people that genuinely take issue in the game's story and plot developments, and that is fair. But that even those people give it a 0? ****
Even if you don't like the story, no way in hell is this game a 0 and it's messed up that people use reviews just to make a petty statement.

Let's actually review the game, shall we?

From the moment the game starts, it's clear that ND have outdone themselves when it comes to audio-visual presentation. The game simply looks phenomenal and it's still hard for me to believe they squeezed this performance out of a PS4.

Gameplay is largely unchanged from the first part. Granted, I haven't played it in years, but it felt pretty much just like playing the predecessor. There are some minor additions and tweaks to traversal and gunplay, but if you're familiar with how TLOU part 1 played, you'll be right at home here.
The big difference however is the level design, which is much more open and natural, and sometimes simply visually spectacular.

Story and characters: if you haven't spoiled the game yourself by reading the leaks, then surely this game will not go the way you think. Which, to me, meant that there were a lot of surprises and I constantly felt the need to push on to discover how the story unfolds. I very often read that people found the characters to be unlikable, too grim or that they could not relate to them. Personally, I cannot understand those sentiments. To me, each character's motivation was always clear, even if some choices needed a little time to become clear. "Ellie is not the positive counterweight to this dark world anymore" Well, no **** Her world has been shattered several times. And people can't relate to that? I'm starting to ask myself if some people just have a problem with basic empathy.

All in all, I found the story and the characters compelling enough to keep me awake into the early hours of the day several times, as I just couldn't stop playing and forgot the time. Only really great games can do this to me.

You didn't enjoy the story? That's fine. People have different tastes, not everyone will like this. But the problem I predominantly see in the reviews here is that people had certain expectations going into this game, which weren't fulfilled. And the reaction is to go onto a hate tirade against the game director and review bomb the game online. And I'm quite frankly sick and tired of this "entitlement" online hate mob. "The game director did not please the fans, BURN HIM AT THE STAKE!" How petty is that? I can't get my head around it.

In general, audiences constantly demand something new. They want to be surprised, they don't want stories to be predictable. However, if you take it "too far" as a director, and you do not fulfill people's expectations, prepare to get bombarded with hate. I'm not even going into the "political agenda" bull**** many people out there are getting upset over. If you have a problem with a game including characters with different sexual orientation than yours, or a different idea about gender identity, then GTFO. It's 2020 and if this stuff offends you, please go back to the past and stay there.

Ellie has a girlfriend. Oh no.
Lev decides that he does not want to conform to the gender role that was forced upon him and wants to live his life as he sees fit.

That's all. That's literally all. And number one shouldn't even be a surprise because Ellie was already outed as gay years before TLOU II was released. People are up in arms because of THIS? What. The. Hell.

Just like TLOU I was a master piece, so is this one. The acting is superb. The graphics are insane. The game play is solid and tense. The story and the characters took hold of me for the entire duration of my play time and three days after finishing it, I am still processing it. On the cover, it might be a simple revenge story, but in reality it has much more nuance and more layers than just that.
The stakes are not as high as they were in part 1 (potentially saving the world), and it's much more personal this time around. But it's still a very emotional game, for very different reasons, and at least for me, it totally worked.

    9/10.

    Music 6/10

Honestly, I find the music to be quite unremarkable, none of the tracks stuck with me like other OSTs have in the past. At the end of the day, this type of music isn't for me and I accept it.

    Graphics 9/10

The game is visually stunning, with the reason why it's not a 10/10 being that I found some visual bugs along the way, some of which were very noticeable.

    Gameplay 8/10

The gameplay being 8/10 is me comparing it to the previous game, combat as stayed mostly the same and, for the kind of game it is, it works. However, even though gameplay would generally be the most important part of a game, this is more akin to a movie, which is why I feel sad to have to give the story...

    Story 1/10

There's no way to explain how I felt after finishing the game, although disgust might be the closest feeling. Upon finishing the story, I just couldn't understand why they would shoot themselves in the foot like this. It's genuinely baffling that after the emotional story of TLOU Part 1, that they would manage to screw it up this much. Killing off the character that served as the protagonist in the first title of a series has been done before and, when done right, can cause some emotional responses from people that no other medium can. However, never had I seen that treated it's past with such disrespect, literally spitting at it's corpse. Some other writing decisions were also dubious, such as playing from the POV of the antagonist. However, the game tries to convince the player to like the character who killed the previous protagonist. When games make you play as the villain, it's generally in one of two ways: either because the villain is cool and interesting (examples: Vergil from DMC or M. Bison in Street Fighter) or to reinforce how evil the villain really is. Instead, the game tries to make the villain sympathetic and utterly fails at it. Additionally, it feels like the game is trying to send a message, that THIS is what you have now and you'll buy it and play it and YOU WILL LIKE IT, borderline disrespecting the people who have waited for years for this game. In summary, the story doesn't feel like a downgrade, it feels like they threw together ideas from what could have been a good story and worked their hardest to make it as bad as possible.

    Conclusion

Some might think that "since everything else was good, then the game doesn't deserve a 2 because of the story". However, as I said, The Last of Us is more of a movie than a game and, if this is the best that the writers can come up with after 7 years, which, then I can only say that I'd rather pretend that this never happened and keep waiting for the release of the game that I and many others were expecting, one that doesn't make such ridiculous mistakes in it's writing.

Also, I want to leave a note at the end, the way Naughty Dog (specifically the director for TLOU 2, Neil Druckmann) and Sony have been taking the criticism against the game has been nothing short of ridiculous. You could make the argument that the people leaving negative reviews are hate-filled trolls and, to an extent, there's always people like that but you'd have to be insane to believe that everyone who dislikes this game is like that. I want to leave it as clear as possible, I don't have any problem with the representation in the game, although I still question if it was necessary in the game. However, the "progressiveness" of a piece of media does not make it immune to criticism and I stand by what I wrote. The game is a true narrative mess and to treat the fan base as a bunch of "haters", "trolls", "bots" and "racists" for disliking it is not the way to go.

And there you have it, I hope I managed to convey how I fet about the game as a whole, although I feel like there was more to be said. I doubt anyone at ND will ever see this but understand, this review comes from someone who admires the work you do, I have nothing but respect for the people who work on video games for people like myself who enjoy playing them.

TL;DR: Saying that I was disappointed isn't nearly enough to express how I felt about this game's story.

The game play, enemies, environment has improved exponentially but it has fails, the game makes you walk more to do time between scene and scene; if you aren't killing anyone or hiding from enemy the game makes you walk more than Death Stranding... and yeah the story... is like a big political banner, Ellie is nothing like the Ellie we meet in the first game and DLC and has no character development... kind of sad what they make to her. Do not misunderstand me all the plot of vengeance and more vengeance was good but I can't see this like a second part of the game I played. 6/10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game had a 2 flaws in the story. Everything that Abby went through should've lead up to the death of Joel, then Ellie's story should've been second with her following Abby to Seattle. The end was a little difficult. I get it, but the truth is if someone had went through what Ellie had they wouldn't have held back. Gameplay was amazing, story was almost amazing, and the graphics were really well done. 2 flaws isn't worth the damnation of a solid game. Expand

This has got to be one of the best games I've ever played, no joke, Such a shame about the review bombing, especially from people who never played the game. The gameplay was absolutely fantastic, and so was the first half of the story. While the second half did drag on a bit and could've ended 3 hours earlier, I was ultimately satisfied with it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all, for a game to be a 10 on my scale it would have to be something earth shattering amazing that I would play for 100+ hours. I’d say TLOU1 was very close. I’d give it a 9.8. I’d give TLOU2 a 9.3 to be specific. Second, if you rated this game anything under a 7 you are being ridiculously unfair and you didn’t go into this experience with an open mind, or you didn’t enjoy the first game, maybe it’s just not your genre of choice, but if that were the case you would not have played the second.

It’s the same incredible gameplay from the first game, Naughty Dog didn’t try to fix what wasn’t broken. The story was a lot more ambitious than the first, with the story/writing being the chief complaint. The first game had a very tight and focused plot. Whereas the first game felt like an interactive movie, part 2 felt like an interactive TV series. As for the story, it hit some lulls (TLOU1 never did) and I didn’t particularly enjoy the flashbacks, but playing the two timelines was so compelling and suspenseful. The first day with Abby I was disappointed to even be playing with her and the first day was a bit boring. Day 2 and 3 with Abby was the highlight of the game though. At the end of the day, I play games to have fun. I judge them way differently from movies and books. I play video games specifically to have fun. If a game were truly anything under a 6, there’s just no way I’d have the patience to see through a subpar 20+ campaign to the end. If you played through this whole game and gave it a 5 or a 6, you’re full of crap. If you have it under a 5, you’re a troll that isn’t to be taken seriously. It’s very clear what happened to user reviews of this game. If a game has replay-ability its at least a 7. I will absolutely play TLOU II again, probably several times over the next 5-10 years. It was an extremely fun game, bottom line. I didn’t want this game to end. But I will say the ending was a bit too dragged out. The part where you’re tracking down Abby was an absolute blast though. So to wrap it up, no it’s not perfect, no it’s not good as the first but I wasn’t expecting it to be or demanding it to be. But I have to reiterate how damn good of a game it was and how much fun I had playing it. I feel not even the slightest bit of disappointment.

The game makes you like Abby after everything she did by using such great characters ( Lev being my favorite side character), and don`t even get started on those BEAUTIFUL landscapes you play in, the combat is very good, and the big problem with most people is the story of this game but mannn is the story good, it`s not all sun shine and fun it`s portrays real problems with hatred, revenge and the cost of those things. The only reason this game isn`t a 10/10 is a think they could have added some more parts of story before you start to play abby, so you don`t lose so much momentum, and they could have explained a very small amount of what happened the the characters in the end. This game definitely doesn`t deserve a 5.0. Expand

However the story is so lazy and quite awfull.

Making you play as someone you have absolutely no chemistry with just to force the quite awfull ending on you is really tragic.

R.I.P Naughty Dog".

The gameplay, the graphics are absolutely amazing but I cannot bare how the storyline of the game was handled. It could have been so much better. A wait for this game for so long just to find out what happened absolutely left me in shatters. They could've just left it at where it ended and it would still be something I'd remember. But they went ahead and made me hate their production. Whoever called this a piece of art was just being subtle to not hurt some mentally **** up people who came out with that kind of a narrative. And they even went ahead and bought these critic sites who are calling it a must play game. If u loved the Last of us, I'd really not recommend u even reading about what happened in this part. I don't want to play as the one who killed him, at least not in that way. All that comes after, when you are forced to play as Abby, is a shallow attempt to force me with a character I don't like.
If the game made me first play as Abby, and then she reveals to be the one who is going to kill Joel, then it would have been WAY better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game isn't a masterpiece:hell i'd hardly call it decent . The only things i can praise about this game are 3 things :The Graphics, the gameplay(for the most parts) and the attention to details. Let's start with the pros of this game . THE GAMEPLAY: The graphics look amazing :these might be some of the best graphics i've ever seen in a game, the ridiculous attention to detail is astonishing .when you're aiming if you wait for a second your character will cock the gun back. the gameplay against the humans is some of the best i've ever played: the AI is excellent in gunplay :using flanking maneuvers, calling out to one another periodically. It's pretty damn fun playing when you get to these parts.Unfortunately i can't say the same for the infected parts : these encounters are extremely lackluster. The game added these zombies called shamblers :they're basically Bloaters that don't one hit kill you and i honestly think they were the were the most annoying zombies ever.Shamblers have these spore bags which emit acidic gas. This gas acts like a poison that you've got to get out of if you want to live.Unfortunately, they take ages to dissapear so if the shamblers throws too many bags you're dead . I would also like to add that the melee aspects just plain suck. It feels like a downgrade from the first game because now it's much harder to actually kill your enemies:even with a bladed weapon like a machete ,it'll take you 3-4 hits to kill one person. Apart from that most of the new things are pretty great :you can attach a supressor on your pistol, weapin modification looks awesome:you actually see your character upgrading the weapon instead of Joel holding down his bag. However the workbench kinda lies to you : in a scripted event ,you'll get attacked while on the workbench. This could've been a good idea to be mindful of your surroundings but the game never does that. Anyways that's pretty much all i have to say about the gameplay :it's decent but pretty terrible in some areas. Now you might be asking yourself if i like the gameplay why is my review only 2 out of 10 and that's because the "gameplay is king" aspect doesn't apply to games like The Last of Us: sure the gameplay has to be fun but the story has to be great . THE STORY: This is probably the worst story i've experienced since Game of Thrones Season 8 .Yeah,it's that bad. The story takes place 5 years after the first game:Ellie and Joel are barely in speaking terms and Ellie has grown up to be very unlikeable. Now the first part of the game is honestly the best part in the entire game. The game opens up with a flashback where Joel tells Tommy what happened in the first game while cleaning a guitar .Joel acts very out of character here.He says with certainty "They were gonna make a cure" even though Joel from the first game was well aware the Fireflies would never have been able. The horseriding back to Jackson is the only time you ever play as Joel so enjoy it while it lasts. After that Joel returns home to Ellie and gives her his guitar promising to teach her .You play a guitar minigame and Joel starts singing to Ellie. After that he puts the guitar down and tells Ellie a bad joke. This scene is probably the best scene in the game ; it captures the charm of the first game with our 2 main characters and actually makes you happy. After that we cut to 4 years later :Ellie wakes up and goes to the bar to hear an apology from someone who called her a dyke for kissing a girl. The guy admits he was at fault, blaiming his bevahior on being drunk .He offers Ellie steak sandwiches but she declnes stating they are "bigot sandwiches" .Now not only is this scene awful it's also **** stupid:who ,in a zombie apocalypse, would care what someone called them ? This isn't modern day America this is a zombie apocalypse where people try to kill each other. After that we control Abby, the new main character, she talks to a guy called Owen about tracking someone .Owen tells Abby it's too risky.Abby responds to that by jumping into infected territory with no plan or backup to find Joel .By pure **** coincidence she does. She,Joel and Tommy escape from the infected by returning to Abby's group. They take care of their horses sdaying they're leaving soon. Then for no **** reason they decide to enter the cabin with all of the armed strangers. Not only that but Tommy tells a group of well armed strangers their location and their names. This makes no sense why would Joel be so lax with trust when in the first game he ran over someone because he knew it was an ambush whilst in this game, Joel stands in the middle of a room with strangers unarmed. they blow off his kneecap and start torturing him to death with a golf club. Ellie finds them and vows vengeance on them. They killed Joel off in extremely moronic ways but guess what? You play for 10 hours as Abby trying to make us sympathise with her .At the end Ellie decides to spare her because she had a flashback of Joel. 2/10 Expand

The last of us was an amazing touching story, making you care for each and every character as if they were your own family. Connecting to them, feeling them, getting to know them was my top priority when I immersed myself in that universe.
With that said, all the love and care that went into that first game was forcefully taken away in its sequel, killing the mentor figure right from the start, playing double standards for the protagonist and antagonist, forcing us to believe that Ellie has gone a darker path, which goes against the hero stature, yet with Abby - the villain, being guilty of walking this exact same path is treated like a saint.
Over all it is a huge decline from the first game's story, yet the visual beauty and the game play itself were absolutely astonishing. Having said that, as this is a story driven game, half of my score comes from the story and since it is a continuation of a previous, extremely good story driven game, I'm scoring it a 1/10. That with the 9/10 for the game play (some issues with friendly AI and the weapon system) would give an average of 5 / 10, though because of the way this game treated these characters I love so much, I really wanted to give it less.

I just finished the game and the end didn't "touch me" like in the first part, but compared to some other games, ND's art of storytelling is still great and attention to details is still top notch.
I think it lacks humanity from it's predecessor, but I also think that was their goal with this one.
Either way, anyone with no agenda in mind shouldn't be be disappointed with end results, because compared to some other AAA games this is still well above average. Some players are mad/sad that game didn't took the rout they were expecting and that's ok. But there is also large group of people who didn't even play the game and maybe didn't play the first one either but they are mad because story didn't fit their political narrative, which tells more about them as a persons rather than how great, good or bad this game is.
Gameplay will be familiar to everyone who experienced ND games before. Only real problem that I had is, that I couldn't change L1 and R1 with L2 and R2 to aim and shoot. It was saying that i have one button unbound which, after I scroll all the buttons wasn't the case, so it didn't let me progress with that button layout. Still not sure is this a bug or I was doing something wrong. If it's a bug I hope they fix it before multiplayer launch.

This game is fascinating. I don't know why everyone screams. I think the developers have a fascinating game that they're going to want to go back to get over again.

The puzzles feel much more subtle and tricky and less bland compared to the puzzles of part I. Naughty Dog never fails with graphics and environments and TLOU2 is no exception. Combat environments feel very fluid, stealth feels even more viable than the original because of how mobile you're allowed to be. Overall the gameplay feels familiar but more polished. Cons: The story is told in a non linear fashion which I enjoyed, however some parts are noticeably slower than others. Most of the game kept me engaged either with story beats or new gameplay features or new enemies, but there were some times where I felt like I wanted to see more of a different part of the plot, and the part I was playing through didn't do quite enough to pull me in. The game isn't long enough. In all seriousness the game felt quite long especially after having just completed the first game, but even still as I approached the end I kept hoping I was far away from the credits.

The gameplay is excellent and the story is brilliant, the only thing i think was crap (literally) and feels like it was forced was the ending, looks like the writers got out of ideas. What such an horrible ending for a good story. Is for real, the ending is way too forced.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I personally play videogames in order to get rid of all real life political and social **** So I thank you Naughty Dog for forcing me to lose interest in The Last of Us! Even though I have finished playing the game due to a personal administration to the gameplay and astonishing graphics, I still am not fulfilled by the story.... Plus, injecting a personal hate not only into our beloved Ellie but the fans too is definitely appalling!
To me, the narrative failed. It shows no respect to The Last of Us' main characters, nor the fans too. I would have admired the game at least if they had us get to know Abby first, understand where she's coming from. Maybe have her father show his good influence on her, then eventually when confronting Ellie, she goes through a moral conflict and puts Joel down out of an unbearable sorrow to ..maybe.. make Ellie feel her agony. But definitely show an ending that would give Joel a heroic death that he deserves. I understand the concept of (you never know what the assumed to be villain is going through), but writers need to understand that choosing to spit on the dignity of a main character like that is definitely going to force us to hate the game.
    So yeah..I'm very disappointed....

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a player and fan of the first TLOU, I'm really disappointed with this sequel.

I appreciate that Naughty Dog wanted to "dare", by killing Joel, the protagonist of the first chapter, but it is the motivation that pushes Abby to kill him is really forced for me. Naughty Dog could have killed him in many other different ways.

But the thing that made me angrier than this is that after Abby tortured Joel, first shooting him with a **** shotgun in the legs, then repeatedly hitting him with a golf club, at the end of the game, Ellie FORGIVES Abby for all that that she did and lets her live! All this does not do justice to Joel who treated Ellie like a daughter! (especially seen in flashbacks during the game)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I went in blind, never watched the spoilers, didn't stayed on the internet much before it's release, and as soon as I finished it I wanted to talk about it so badly, so naturally, I went to Reddit and oh my god I couldn't believe what the heck happened because personally I really loved the game and everyone seemed to hate it.

Now one week later, as more people actually played (or watched walkthroughs on youtube) the game, I noticed more and more positive feedback as each day passed, predominately on the PS4 sub and the main TLOU one, also the Metacritic score raised up to 5.0, from a 3.2, leading me to believe that the initial reaction was mostly composed of online troll with nothing better to do. That's not to say that there aren't persons who genuinely don't like the game, but usually, they came in as more civil and respectful to other's opinions.

From a technical point of view for me this game is a marvel, from graphics and sound design to incredible attention to details it's just perfect. I didn't enjoy so much the gameplay of a game in a long time, HZD was the last game I think to leave me in a state of "wow this **** is so fun". Regarding performance, I don't understand how they did it but the game runs even smoother than Uncharted 4 for me, as with that game I witnessed a few nasty fps drops a couple of times, here I didn't encounter any sequences with noticeable frame rates drops. I play on a ps4 slim from 2017.

With that said I really loved the story as well, the (big spoilers ahead) midway switch to Abby clicked with me, eventually, I ended up liking her, by the final chapters I was seriously hoping Ellie won't kill her, not only because I liked Abby and Lev as characters, but because it would mean the definitive downfall of our protagonist in my opinion. The sudden pop of Joel's memory as she was suffocating Abby to death was a representation of how Ellie acknowledged that she was using revenge as a coping mechanism to escape guilt because she didn't make amends with Joel before he died, killing Abby wouldn't fix her issues on the long run. And I think at that moment came some great character development for Ellie, as it takes great willpower to control your rage and spare the murderer of your beloved in an attempt to move forward and heal. So for me, the ending was actually bittersweet, touched by a note of hope, showing us that the main theme was actually forgiveness. Maybe it hit me differently because I'm trying to leave aside my toxic "solutions" and attitude towards some personal issues I have

All in all, this is a 10/10 for me, the pacing at times could have been better, but other than that it's a really good game. Definitely a must have at least when it's on sale.

Whether you like it or not, there are always two sides of the story.
Best graphics, animations and sound. it wasn't the story we all expected.
But is a great story at the end. A must play game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am very disappointed. At some part of the game I hate to play it and was deliberately not pressing the square button. It had so much potential, could have had so much deeper meaning. The best storyline was about yarah and Lilly. A breath of Fresh air with secondary characters... and how about the main ones???!! Boring! Storyline is very bad. Why wouldn’t they give a player a choice? Like deciding who to spare or kill throughout the game would give different outcomes and might have at least given some joy in killing Abby. If this was supposed to be about vengeance, don’t you know in America that it is best served cold? Out of respect for part I, this was the first game I ever bought as a pre order. Lesson learnt. I played the whole game and I never wrote any game review before. But decided to express my disappointment the only way I can. Don’t get me wrong I played worse games than TLOU2 but with a masterpiece the first part was, the sequel is just the biggest let down of the decade. Feel sorry for everyone who worked so hard on Graphics as it is just amazing, it reminded me of Thief's End. Weapons bench improved a lot and hiding underneath the cars gave gameplay more options. Music, bigger world, layouts, design, actors play all great! They build everything as I hoped, mechanically and technically except the most important thing in the game- it’s narrative, and heart. I give it 3/10 cos games should be about the story and make the player want to play it over many times. I played First part like 10 times. Overall amazing Graphics cannot compensate for the whole game because if the story is bad, why bother to play. Update: changed to 0/10 after reading bottled 10/10 reviews Expand

There should not have been a sequel to the original game, especially considering the non-respect shown to anything that was built in the first title.
Waste of time, waste of money.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The story of this game is a hard hitting one. It takes dark and horrific turns. Characters are humanised and dehumanised, even your enemies have names.

The Last of Us 2 is a story of how Abby went from a toxic, vengeful individual to somebody with purpose and a heart, who felt empathy for others and truly realised that every side is capable of being evil, or good.

On the flip side, it's a story of how Ellie goes from an already fairly broken person to a vengeful, toxic mess. It's almost like she and Abby swap places.

But I do think that Joel definitely had to die - he was going to. Ellie may have never viewed it that way (You can tell how selfish she is when she's telling him "you took that from me" rather than "you brought me to these people, then murdered them all"), but he was far from perfect, far from a good person, and it was inevitable that his past would catch up to him. By the end Ellie was worse than he was, by a significant margin. If you're attached to Ellie and Joel especially, you'll struggle with this game. If you struggle with empathy chances are you'll hate it.

Dina is a gem of a character and a bastion of patience, Lev was amazing and really lent to the development of Abby, who definitely had the better arc as a human being. Those environments though, absolutely stunning - that situational environmental design and attention to detail is unrivalled. I'd love to see a sequel from the perspective of Lev and Abby, I think that'd be pretty awesome.

With an enthralling story, complex characters, interesting gameplay and gorgeous visuals and audio, The Last of Us Part II is probably one of the most polished videogame experiences out there and it’s pretty easy to give it a great score and call it a day. But honestly, thanks to the intense pace, mature subject matter and stressful situations, it may not be for everyone.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
