Great job on making the game it is a good one but in my opinion, in single player games the writing is the main dish which was a mess here, idc about the emotional soundtrack or how perfectly real the face expressions if I’m out of the mood to appreciate it, and the writing did that to me many times throughout the gameplay.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first game was both the heroes journey and villains origin. On one side Joel goes from being a jaded smuggler to a loving father figure and he also goes from being the smuggler to being a slaughter of innocence. The first game sets us up in the second game has to start in that place and live through it.
After finishing the game and thinking back to the beginning of starting in Jackson and even going to Seattle day one feels like forever ago and it has to. Like no other this game uses narrative and gameplay together to connect the player to the character in this incredible link that is one of the biggest feats of storytelling in recent memory. When Joel died I felt just as Ellie did, when Ellie killed Nora I was visibly shaken like Ellie was, finally when the fight occurred between Abby and Ellie I was exhausted and done with all of it. This was always the mission of the first game to connect the player in the characters in a way that wasn’t possible through any other medium. This game takes everything that the first had in the rule that was set out that was if nothing else write honestly everything has to feel honest there’s no fan service there are no moments that we as the player are given everything and finally satisfied because that would feel wrong. The story is there only to be told, And it is only told because it has to be.

This game is a masterpiece. Technically is absolutely fantastic. I can´t name a single game that comes close in quality terms. The graphics take the PS4 to another level, the ambience is superb and the gameplay (especially if you like the first game) is very good. All that remains is the story, the theme of all controversy.

I started in one position view and I ended in another way different, that means the story did its purpose. I love all characters and some I thought I would hate forever. This is TLOU level of writing, hard, painful but in the end... human. A great, great game...

It is very frustrating to wait for so long and receive this "final product" that was obviously broken. Characters that fans loved and respected had their developments withdrawn so that the "plot" could be more realistic and plausible, in addition to the bugs and problems in combat and also the lack of it, because with 10 hours of game-play 8 seriously and cut-scene is like if you were watching an interactive soap opera with a bad plot. II had the true pleasure of just beating the Last of Us 2. I am giving this game a 10, because I truly feel that it deserves it. I am not trying to combat the 0s although a lot of those seems to be more based off the leaks than the actual game. Well let me tell you, for someone that found out about a few of the leaks before the game came out, the game delivered for me, and then some. I won’t lie this game took me longer because it could be emotionally Daunting at times. It was brutal, depressing, complicated. Many times I would say, “Don’t do it, Ellie.” But you understood why, and can I say the ending really helps recapture why. This game is truly what a good sequel should do. Keep us familiar with the world while adding a deeper dive into the characters. Let me talk about my gripe first because it is nit picky: But The gun customization, while I loved all the new things they did with it, the animation took awhile to get through. Don’t get me wrong it was cool to see, but after a few times I was ready to get back to the action. With Ellie we got that, we got see her grow from hopefully being this goofy kid, to a competent adult wishing her father figure trusted her more. Especially with how he lied to her at the end o of the last game. (Which they handle so well in the sequel). This game you truly see what it means to become obsessed with one mission and to see it through until the end. Which by the way I get why she was doing it in the first place, but the last scene at the end of the game made it even more painful. (Well dons Dogs!) Ellie’s gameplay was a blast, having her trusty switchblade with her was always fantastic!

I also really enjoyed what they did with Abby’s character. They took someone you hate when you first meet her, and then they break her down and you see how she ticks and by the end you see how much she has grown. The last fight *chef’s kiss* also Abby got that dope Boss Battle in the basement of the Hospital. I loved it! All in all the narrative was impressive, and as much of a risk as it was Naughty Dog swung for the fences and hit the ball out of the park. While this game does get so dark and brutal and depressing they give you wonderfully tender moments, Dina and Ellie, Abby and Owen, Ellie and Joel, Abby and Lev (friggin love Lev!) and so many others (special shout out to the ladies man Manny!) they also give you some fantastic flashbacks. The one for Ellie’s birthday brought a tear to my eye. Also the way the guitar was incorporated into the game beautifully done.

The score sublime, the art perfect, and the new customizables were great! All of the acting was top notch, Ellie still may be my favorite character from the series but Abby, Lev and Dina fought there way into my hawser.

This game had me hook line and sinker. It was an unexpected but wonderful sequel that after some time to ponder my existence as a human I will have to play again to grab the collectibles.

Nicely done Naughty Dog you made a sequel worth of its predecessor.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well, that was something. Not everyone's cup of tea, some bits were really good, and some bits were really bad. First of all, the art was insane, the detail, storytelling and world building is second to none. Character animations are excellent, with amazing acting and cut scenes.

Music and audio overall was unreal. Extremely immersive and created a beautiful atmosphere. The level design was what you'd expect from a Naughty Dog title at the moment, diverse and sometimes fun. The added dimension of crawling and climbing was implemented well, however I didn't enjoy the invisible borders to the levels, I think this is a cheap level design move and ruins the immerssion. The gameplay was okay, it hadn't really evolved into anything more than what it was before, some of the cover and shooting was a bit clunky and unfortunately didn't feel well thought out at times. Killing gets very repetitive and becomes an unrewarding experience to borderline grindy and monotonous. I'd have quite enjoyed setting traps, problem solving ways of getting out of rooms, better designed stealth missions and just simply exploring some interesting areas. Considering in Uncharted we can climb so much stuff, I was very surprised this wasn't something added.

The story, well, I don't really know what to say... For me, it was just a mess. Killing one of the most beloved characters in gaming history, seems like a very nasty way to destroy all the love and respect built from the first title, and to do it for shock is for all the wrong reasons. I'd dare say it's borderline selfish.

Secondly, taking away player agency and forcing them down a bottleneck to play the very character who murdered Joel in an attempt to provoke emotion, again, feels very self righteous, and the manipulation tactic designed to make the player enjoy this person seems disingenuous. Personally at this point you're making the game for yourselves and your ego, instead of the millions of players who have supported both your studio, and your productions for years and even decades. They even had the audacity to advertise otherwise. Its like you knew people wouldn't like it, and yet you did it anyway.

I also can't get over the amount of flashbacks, it was tiresome. The mechanic makes everything chaotic.

Additionally the new characters served no purpose narratively and were just bland. I couldn't care for a single one. With no development of them, it was just vanilla, and when they died, I mostly didn't care. The only character I liked was Lev. He was probably my favourite and the most interesting/well built.

By the end, I'd given up and just wanted to see the ending, but I really didn't care. I was exhausted from forcing myself to try and enjoy it. The magic that existed in the previous title was missing. The whole concept of story driven narrative was lost like the final season of GoT - this game ultimately forgot what it was supposed to be.

For me, I'd have enjoyed playing as Ellie and Joel at the start, feeling that magic between them both and reminiscing on the good times we had, pure nostalgia. The first part of the game could be Ellie working with Joel, Tommy, Jesse and Dina, doing missions to support Jackson, exploring the world, levelling up, crafting cool stuff and enjoying awesome encounters, saving survivors, clearing out clickers, just a nice introduction to the characters, their stories, the world and the mechanics. Then, Ellie and Joel on a great adventure. You then split off for whatever reason and now you're alone exploring a new area, maybe the scars or another group. You could save Joel and abby, work together to escape, and go back to Jackson or the wolf camp, she's a friend of yours but she could even become the love interest instead of Dina - this makes later situations harder to deal with.

At this point abby figures out who joel is, stuff could happen and he dies in Epic fashion that tears at Ellie. The revenge plot begins.

You team up with Tommy, Dina and Jesse who then work with you to find abby and kill her. This group gameplay brings a whole new dynamic. You could even direct them to do things, reward the player with cool functionality.

Later you meet Lev. This is the perfect time to drop ideas into your head about forgiveness. You build a relationship, working forward and surviving (the key mechanic is survival, problem solving ways out of impossible to exit rooms with puzzles, camping in abandoned areas and setting traps for clickers etc).

Eventually you find abby, fight, and you get this forgiveness narrative in the end. Perhaps Lev gets involved and begs you both to stop.

For me, executed properly, this sort of narrative would've been a much more rewarding experience. It can provoke conflicting emotions, happiness, mourning, anger, forgiveness, all of it and ultimately be an enjoyable game without upsetting the player and forcing them down a journey kicking and screaming.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm so saddened by all of the negative, hateful reviews of this game.

The Last of Us 2 is probably one of, if not THE BEST GAME I've EVER played in my entire life (and I'm in my mid 30's).

    --Gameplay--
TLOU 2 takes everything good about the first game and combines it with everything that makes the Uncharted series of games so fun to play with heightened mobility and more streamlined controls.

There are more weapons with more customization options and more ways to get through combat in such a satisfying way. Snipe from a distance, shotgun blast up close, use smoke bombs and trip mines (my favorite) to really level the playing field against tough and satisfying opponents.

Everything that sucked (yes.. sucked) about TLOU 1 was removed from this game (using palettes to get Ellie across water, etc) and what's left is one of the most satisfying control and combat systems in a game I've ever played.

    --Story--
Here's where people REALLY go off the deep end in their hate for this game, which is both moronic and just overall deeply deeply sad.

Joel is NOT a hero, nor is he supposed to be the pinnacle of admiration. So many people are SO mad about Joel dying, and THAT'S THE POINT. You as the player are supposed to feel enraged at the brutal murder of Joel so that you play as Ellie with a burning, passionate hatred and unstoppable will to get to Abby.

When you get to that point, you feel triumphant in your quest. But then the game takes a MASTERFUL turn and flips the script. Some might say this is a trope, but mostly people are just angry and upset (and stupid) about being forced to view, feel, and understand the motivation behind the opposition.

Playing as Abby feels frustrating at first, but there's a glimmer of curiosity as we are plunged into her world and we hope to uncover some deeper understanding as to why Joel was murdered. It's something that is going through Ellie's mind the entire time we are hunting down Abby, and now Naughty Dog is finally giving us a taste of what those motivations are.

During the time we're playing as Abby, we see an entirely different and new side to the events that are unfolding in Seattle. We are introduced to a very human set of characters that were dehumanized in the eyes of Ellie because of their actions. We are given a rare opportunity to understand our enemy. By the end of Abby's Seattle adventure, we are (if you're not a totally brainless and heartless moron) actually ON HER SIDE!

Joel selfishly(!) murdered Abby's father, a man who wanted to bring a vaccine to the entire world and was ok with paying a very heavy price for that "victory." Maybe he deserved to die because he devalued the life of one person (Ellie) in favor of others, but these decisions aren't supposed to be easy. None of the decisions in this world/story are easy. Abby is fully justified in her pursuit of murdering Joel to get revenge, and we are exposed to her fragility and sensitivity (and aggression) throughout her half of the game. She could have sailed into the sunset with Owen but instead went back to save the life of the Seraphite children who saved HER life. The story is layered and nuanced in a way no video game narrative has ever felt (to me) in all my years of gaming.

The Last of Us 2 forces you to see beyond your own selfish, hatred, misguided motivation and understand the opposing views. Most people are upset with that (I think) because most people are just as selfish and fueled by anger and hatred as Joel and Ellie (and Abby).

At the end of the Seattle chapter of the game, Abby winds up sparing Ellie, leaving her to live with her haunted nightmares of Joel's murder and the fact that her life is "meaningless" because she didn't die when she was supposed to so she could save humanity. When Ellie decides she can't go on without her revenge, she selfishly leaves Dina and the perfect life they've cultivated for themselves so she can pursue her distorted view of justice.

At the end of the Santa Barbara chapter, Ellie winds up saving Abby's life so they can finally battle to the death. Right before Ellie gets her ultimate revenge, another image of Joel flashes in her head. This time, not one of him dying or as a bloody mess, but an encounter where she promised an attempt at forgiveness. Would killing Abby justify that? Ultimately, no. So she stops. The cycle of killing has to end, and she realizes she has to give up her selfish hatred in order to do what's "right."

The naysayers who are calling for Abby's death are completely MISSING THE POINT that Naughty Dog's excellent writers are trying to convey. Instead, Ellie returns home to an empty farm and (presumably) decides to go out and fulfill her promise to Joel of forgiveness.

Bravo to Naughty Dog and the entire voice acting team for such a wonderful story.

    F U to the haters

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It disappoints me that’s so many people have given this game such bad reviews. This game is incredibly well thought out. I loved the story because it wasn’t what I expected and every character had layers, instead of a linear personality. Having Joel die so soon was a shock, and I was angry at first, but I understood that’s the point! This event is what drives the entire story of the game and it’s supposed to make you feel upset. The aim of this game isn’t to make the player feel comfortable and to reminisce about the Joel and Ellie duo we all loved in the first game, it’s meant to make you feel unsafe and scared about what could be next. For a game to evoke these kind of emotions in the player just shows that it is more than just a game. They want you to experience it as the characters would, and let’s not forget the incredible graphics in this game! They worked so hard on every single little detail like the way Ellie’s backpack moves when she walks, the way thin ice breaks, the hand movements when Ellie plays the guitar, and my favourite, how the cables/ropes in the game move/are coiled. One thing I particularly loved, was how the cut scenes and game play seamlessly transition into one another, something the first game didn't have. I was engaged in the story from start to finish and I couldn't be happier with the result. Incredible game play, graphics and attention to detail! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I see a lot of people in metacritics complaining about the game's history, how horrible it is and its the worst ending of all videogame industry. honestly I loved the game, I love how you get upset with Abby in the beginning for killing the joel, but you start to sympathize with her during the game because even if they don’t accept, she had her reasons for doing what she did, not only with her but with her friends also mainly with Alice (the dog) when you play with Ellie and you go to the Aquarium I remember that I killed that dog and I didn't have any remorse for it but later on I was very sad when I went there with Abby and I realized that it was Alice that I had killed. At first I believed that ellie was right with her mission but every time I progressed in the story I start to see that it wasn´t doing her well because she didn´t care about anything expect her and her mission, she didn't care about Tommy, Jesse, and even Dina, she left Dina and her son to go look for Abby, we see throughout history how selfish Ellie is , and I think in the end she realizes that when she is playing guitar in the empty house. But in summary I think people didn´t like the game because it didn't end like they wanted, they wanted a happy ending but this game is not about that, its about explaining to a person that in revenge nobody is right or wrong, revenge will not bring you comfort or happiness, only more sadness and destruction and i loved the last fight you see ellie completely insane trying to kill Abby and when she is about to do it she has a quick flashback of joel playing guitar and she lets her go, you later see that this scene that she remembered was the scene that Ellie forgives joel for what he did and this is such a strong scene that I admit, I cried a lot, Ellie being able to forgive Abby for what she did its really sad but good , she has to live with the consequences of her actions but now she can live in peace . remember its easier to suffer than to forgive , Yes i give this game a 10/10

Thanks for reading and have a nice day

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have now finally finished the game after 33 hours, and I feel ready to give my review. With every game I play, I always look for certain key points: Story, Dialogue, Characters, Details, Gameplay, Graphics, Music/Audio, Meaning/Emotion and Afterthought. For me, The Last of Us Part 2 is revolutionary is every single key point, and I don't need to write a novel about how beautiful the game is, how awesome the gameplay is or how extreamly detailed it is. No one thinks otherwise, no matter how much someone dislikes the story. The main theme of the story is "the different sides to a conflict". And it's kind of poetic, that this is exactly what is happening to the games fan base right now. To understand the message Naughty and Co. Is trying to give, there is a point to consider from the first game: The final scene with Ellie and Joel, we hear Ellie talk about her time after her and Riley getting bit. Ellie talks about her waiting to die, and we get a feeling the reason she's been this happy and positive kid throughout the entire game, was because she felt her time was overdue.
And by giving her immunity to the Fireflies, her (and Rileys) death would mean something. Her life would have meant something. And Joel took this away from her. So when the thing with Joel happened in Part 2, her old feelings of needing her life to matter, returned. Including the feeling of impending doom/knowing you will die soon. She already had a sort of PTSD long before Part 2. When she finally reach Abby, and actually are mere seconds away from getting what she wants, and what she thinks will put the visions of Joel's bloody and lifeless body to rest, she still sees Joel. The PTSD visions doesn't go away by doing this. And when Abby is dead, then what? Will the act of killing her be the one thing that makes Ellie's life have meaning? Does she have to replace Abby with someone new, for Ellie's life to have meaning?

The final scene is Ellie leaving Joel's Guitar, and leaving the farm. She has finally let him go. Let him rest, and now will try to find a new meaning with her life. Maybe Dina? Little Potato? Back to Jackson? We may never know, but that's the beauty of it all. Another thing worth mentioning: Neither Abby or Ellie know why any of them is after each other. Ellie doesn't know Joel killed Abby's dad, and Abby doesn't know Ellie was the immune girl. What would have happened if they had just talked about it? Sometimes the refusal to listen to each other's motivation in a conflict, can destroy entire communities and families, and if we just listen to each other, we may actually find peace for once.

The feeling of revenge that occurs in you, to later become shame is an unforgettable feeling, and reader, I ask you to give it an invariable attempt. It does have some pacing problems in the first act , but nothing that affects the overall story .It is not only about pure revenge it is also a story of pure forgiveness that broked every part in me and i believe that whether you like it or not depends a lot on your ability to forgive .I can only put it in 1 word :Masterpiece Expand

It’s bigger, crisper and stunningly well realised and fully immersive as a result. The music and understated acting captures the tone of the original and whilst the story will come down to personal preference, the characters are naturally diverse without feeling forced and are well animated. From a technical point of the view the game is a masterpiece.

The story itself is very dark and violent and forces you to change your perspective throughout and your ability to get on board with this and understand what’s being asked you may affect your overall enjoyment. I’m personally on board with most of the creative choices they made here but I do think structurally the way they got there occasionally doesn’t land as well as it could. As a result the games structure is both a strength and also biggest weakness.

Part II is an action adventure with stealth elements. If you’ve played the first game then this won’t be new to you and you know what to expect. Moments of quiet, character driven exploration can give way to stealth encounters, fire fights or even chase sequences. The gorgeous visuals, sound effects and lack of music often makes this an extremely tense and nerve shredding experience and some of the action set pieces can feel appropriately chaotic. The game is also very cinematic and in this regard is very much equal with its predecessor as the pinnacle of cinematic video gaming. Whilst the game generally isn’t open world you do have the option to explore the areas around you and frankly exploration is key as your run through will benefit as you scavenge supplies and craft weapons and other support items. If there’s a criticism to be had with some of the gameplay elements then it would be that the camera doesn’t always position itself right especially in stealth encounters.

Overall this is an impressive continuation from the Last of Us. A technical masterpiece for me no question and whilst structurally it doesn’t land every note, the story lands many notes that I am fully on board with an applaud. The graphics, sound design and gameplay makes this one of the most immersive video gaming experiences I’ve ever had. Be mindful of the hordes of fake negative reviews but also be careful for the handful of fake positive reviews. For me this is definitely a game worth experiencing.

People are pissed off with the LGBTQ+ presence in the game. It is just as heart breaking as the first, and does not pull any punches. The gameplay is next to flawless imo, besides a few glitches in terms of animation on occasion, but nothing anywhere near game breaking.
The ending is upsetting but partially disappointing in comparison to the first, but is definitely just as impactful.

They are forcing the worst of the PC culture through the game. It became obnoxious to look at. They ruined the adventure and story with this so called "romance". Political agendas are ruining games and critics are too afraid to dislike it because of the unforgiving and bullying backlash from the "open minded" community.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TLDR: Don't understand the negative reviews, game was stellar in graphics and design alone (at least a 7/10) - story was complex and emotional (10/10) for me. If you wanted the same story from TLOU1, play TLOU1!

I have been a Naughty Dog fan for a long time - fell in love with them with the Uncharted series. I have been gaming since the PS2, but really don't enjoy online games like Fortnite or Call of Duty Online - really enjoy single player games with lots of storytelling (Naughty Dog's specialty).

I have played (and loved) the The Last of Us - and waited patiently a long time for this game to come out, even making sure that I borrowed a friends PS4 Pro to see the game in 4K with HDR. I did not watch any leaks or look for any spoilers before playing - I wanted to get the full experience the first time.

Gameplay (10/10): Very similar to TLOU1 with the addition of jumping. Basic premises are the same - you're trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. Crafting, skill upgrades, and weapon upgrades are similar to TLOU1 - except for skills you have to find guidebooks hidden around the environment to unlock new "channels" to upgrade on each character, which are upgraded with pills you find in the environment. Weapons are upgraded with parts you find around in the environment - and completed at weapons benches you must find as well. The weapons upgrades had some of the coolest animations I've seen in a game. Just like TLOU1 - weapons and some resources are scarce. If you expect to go in guns blazing into every enemy encounter, you will likely find that you die often and don't carry much resources around. To me this makes sense as you're in a post-apocalyptic, scavenged world.

Enemy AI was impressive to me. Addition of dogs added an extra challenge, but enemies were very responsive to changes in the environment - which caused them to change their searching patterns and even go so far as to look under cars and in hiding places. Pretty normal 3PS gameplay otherwise.

Graphics and Animation (10/10): Some of the most amazing graphics I've ever seen in a video game - Uncharted 4 and RDR2 are the only games I can think of that comes close. After I beat the game I bought the art book - and just ordered a limited edition print of concept art from the game for decorating my room. Every scene seemed incredibly realistic - and the lighting and animation were stellar. Some of the vistas and lighting effects left me with tears in my eyes and jaw on the floor. Motion capture was great as always, as well as some incredible voice acting.

Story (10/10): A lot of the negative reviews I've read seem to focus on Joel's death and playing as Abby. To me, Naughty Dog has always pushed the boundaries of storytelling. And as someone who has studied a bit of film in college, people who push the boundaries will often receive initial blowback and negativity, but turn out to be lauded later on. I think the same is true here. Naughty Dog took a risk and defied a normal story telling and plot structure - and to be fair, warned us that 2 would not be the same as 1. And it wasn't - 1 had a great father-daughter dynamic that was destroyed in 2. Although if you go back and play 1, in the epilogue you can see that dynamic change when Joel lied to Ellie.

When Joel was killed - we all felt the hurt and shock - I've seen some describe it as a punch in the gut. That's what it was intended to do. You were supposed to hate Abby at the beginning - it was supposed to make you rethink everything from 1 and what you'd seen so far in 2. For me, the shock of Joel dying made my sad and upset - and thirsty for revenge. But as we played as Abby and saw her backstory, we came to see her motivations for revenge - and knew where that was getting her. Friends and family dead - nobody left to care. I thought that the flashbacks were well placed and made sense - and also provided some time to play with Joel and Ellie again. The astronaut scene in the museum brought tears to my eyes - and reminded me of what Abby took away.

The "ending" with Abby was anticlimactic for some - but so many things in life are that way. Not everything ends with closure or understanding- but to me if you paid attention and listened to what the story was saying, you saw that Ellie realized that killing Abby would get her nowhere. She would be (and ended up) alone, sad, disconnected - killing Abby would not bring back Joel. The final scene brought me back to the beginning, and showed me how unfair Abby's actions were - how Ellie was going to try and reconcile with Joel before she took that all away. I cried like a baby.

Good storytelling makes us feel emotions - all sorts of emotions. Stories aren't designed to always be happiness and rainbows. Sometimes they show us the cold hard truth, This story made me hurt, it made me angry, it made me think. That's what true story telling does - makes us think and feel - and this game did it like no other I've seen before.

It hurts to see the hate for this game, but after playing I can see why it’s expected. Many controversial things happen, none of which I have a problem with. This game in my opinion, is slightly below the first game. Which I would give a 10/10. The reason for this is simply because Joel provided a certain charm, which was missing in this one. The Last of Us 2 had top tier gameplay, with many emotional moments. I would continue to go in more depth, but I have far too little time to do so. My best advice, is do as Troy Baker stated and go in with an open mind.

Jogo foda. Flws. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As someone who has played the first game many times over, it's truly heartbreaking to see this game do what it did. It took everything that the first game was good at and s*** on it.

I'll start with the pros, because despite being a trainwreck of a game there still are some. The game is visually STUNNING. I found myself at times stopping and looking around at the environments, marveling at such a beautifully crafted world. The facial animations, again, phenomenal. Voice acting? Top tier. The gameplay was something I found myself tolerating, if you've liked the first game's gameplay it's pretty much the same. Loot, craft, kill.

But oh boy, the cons. The problem with this game was not just the borderline nausea inducing storyline but the way it was handled too. Anything that anyone would have had a problem with was snuck into the second half of the game. Naughty Dog knew that if they told players upfront about what the story is NO ONE would have bought it. They kill a beloved character that they forced everything to think had a central part in the story IN THE FIRST TWO HOURS! When he dies you haven't even left the tutorial stage of the game. I don't think his death is bad, don't get me wrong. But they falsely advertised this game as a continuation OF HIS STORY. On top of that the decisions he made leading up to his death was just lazy writing. The character in question would have never gotten into the situation that resulted in his death had he been written the same way he was in the first game. AND THAT'S THE THEME OF THE GAME. All the characters we knew and grew to love all act so out of character here, they all make decisions they never would have. This game requires a lot of buy in from the player, you have to buy in this character would do this, you have to buy into the story and the second you start questioning ANYTHING you're sucked out of the charade that Naught Dog created. It's a load of lazy story writing. ON TOP OF THAT YOU SPEND HALF THE TIME PLAYING AS A CHARACTER YOU DONT CARE ABOUT HUNTING DOWN THOSE THAT YOU DO. It's just a load of bs. The reason I am so goddamn angry about it, is that they gave us a glimpse at what a real sequel could have been. The flashback in which Ellie and Joel went to the museum? That was eff'n perfect. Make that the whole game and it's a straight 10/10, it would've been perfect. Give me more of that game, not this revenge gore p0rn and Neil decided he wanted. When you play as Ellie, all you experience is the devolvement of a beloved character, and the story is clearly set up in a way that is: Ellie bad, Abby good. (My example for this is the dog. As Ellie you are FORCED, as in HARD SCRIPTED INTO THE GAME, WITH NO OTHER OPTIONS BUT TO KILL THE DOG. And immediately after you are playing as Abby and suddenly you're playing fetch with the dog. Once again: Ellie bad, Abby good.) I don't give two ***** about Abby Neil, I know you wanted to write in that scene where you got some, but damn this was not the way to go.

It's almost as if every single writer at Naughty Dog had their own idea as to what should happen, who the villain should be, who the hero should be, and they couldn't decide so they mashed it into one game and shoved it down the player's throats with Sony cheering them on.

Naughty Dog said that their goal for the game was to create an unpleasant and merciless experience, well the sure as heck did that and then some. This game is an excruciating experience, it's not fun at all. There are very little redeeming qualities and I'm ashamed to have spent money on this steaming pile of ****. If you really want to see the game for yourself, just watch a youtube play through of it, there's tons by now. Don't give this man, and his studio, your money and time, because they will take it and make a third game that is even worse. And don't listen to the Sony fanboys who will praise this game to high heavens because they really aren't hearing the other side. Is this game a 0/10? Absolutely not. But it sure as heck isn't 10/10. Even 6/10 would be too high in my opinion.

Do yourself a favor, don't buy it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Astounding and emotional. It seems one aspect which reviewers are very critical of is the supposed SJW agenda forced upon players by the devil Neil Druckmann. Having finished the game just once my reaction to this is that the inclusion of a same-sex relationship, 'transgender' child, a very muscular female 'antagonist', and the like never felt awkwardly incorporated.

Unfortunately, the above seems to be the most prevalent talking point regarding the story of The Last of Us Part II. The story explores revenge, among other themes, through Ellie and Abby, and while I do not feel that it was executed perfectly, it left a strong impression on me and has cemented itself as a masterpiece of video game storytelling alongside The Last of Us.

The gameplay will feel familiar to those who played the original. The extra movement options, animations, and the opportunities brought by these feel incredibly intuitive and make the PS3 classic seem a step behind in comparison.

    Regarding the pacing

Despite feeling qualified enough to leave a brief review I look forward to replaying the game, be it New Game Plus or otherwise,

I absolutely LOVE the 1st game, but The Last of Us Part 2 is a huge let down.

To be fair, The Last of Us is such an iconic and beloved game that's very tough to follow up with a good sequel, let alone one that surpasses the original. Just like the Matrix sequels couldn't really match the 1st movie.

The Last of Us Part 2 is objectively a better game in technical terms. It's got better graphics, better motion and performance capture, bigger environments, better AI, more refined gameplay (at last, a dodge button). In other words, it's got great production values. Yet it fails miserably where it matters the most: the game experience, and the lasting impression it leaves on players.

First of all, let me address the big elephant in the room. The game has caused controversy online due to seemingly promoting a progressive political agenda. Yes, the game portrays some LGBT characters alongside straight people, but their presence is not an issue. The game's real issues are far more fundamental. But dare I say, I've had enough of this agenda, especially when it's not applied so "innocently". If Neil Druckmann includes LGBT characters in his game because the story demands it, fine by me, but please don't take advantage of LGBTs so you can call yourself a "progressivist" and potentially open Hollywood's door later on. We know how things work.

The original game had a simple yet powerful story punctuated with memorable characters and events. The sequel is a shallow tale about hate and the cycle of revenge, with no memorable characters. I won't spoil the game's plot, but let's say the game's narrative focuses on a dozen characters, and as a result loses all of its focus. By the game's end, I had little to no impression left on me.

Another thing that hampers the game experience, is the non-diverse gameplay and the game's length. You traverse the environment, explore an area, and either you loot everything you can or have to dispatch an enemy team, and repeat for 30 hours or so. Puzzles don't exist. There is no trail-stealthily-someone mission. There are no time-limited events. There is no hunt-an-animal-for-food mission. There are no mini-games. There are no secondary dialogue trees to actively pursue, only those you can trigger with the triangle button. Even the fact you can play the guitar is under-utilized. They introduced a few new monsters to the infected roster, and only the Stalkers are a great addition, they gave me a few good jump scares. But at some point there is a horrible boss fight with a creature that reminded me of some recent appalling Resident Evil games.

I understand that Naughty Dog wanted to try something different with The Last of Us Part 2, but frankly they didn't deliver a good experience. It can happen even to one of the world's best games development studios which has released multiple great games in a row. Last time they released a game with a lacklustre experience was Jak II on PS2, or the 1st Uncharted on PS3. I'm sure Naughty Dog will re-organize themselves and their next game will be a return to form. But The Last of Us Part 2 should have been much better than it is.

A spit in the face of the original. Nonsensical narrative and a total disregard for beloved characters, how did this make it to print? The worst kind of roller coaster ride in story telling, one second its great and then bam some bs shocking event happens that doesn't fit in.

Maybe the plot was a a little ridiculous, some events were too convenient for the plot to unfold, but even so it does not detract from the great work that the Naughty Dog team did, you can see the love, effort and dedication they put into this great work. Was a sequel to the first game unnecessary? Yes, maybe, but this second part is a decent closing for characters that made us love several years ago.
Gameplay is just wonderful, the visuals are perfect and the music is gonna give you goosebumps every second.
Give it a try, this is a must-play for the closure of the Ps4

This game is great. It follows up the first game realistically and takes everything that made it good and makes it better. There was one single story beat near the end that I felt was unnecessary, so that is why I decided to rate 9 instead of 10. But it's amazing, and every moment is well deserved. As a fan of the first game I have to say that it was way beyond my expectations. It is not the story I would like to see, but it is an extraordinary one, and a must game experience. This is my game of the year and a great way to complete the arc which I fell in love with back in 2013. The Last of Us universe is a cruel one, and it always take the best parts of ourselves.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After finishing this game and having some time to think about it, I overall liked this game, but I’m very disappointed with the direction they went with. I hesitatingly read the leaks when they came out thinking it would save me 70 bucks but in the end I just had to play it to make my own opinion. Everything with Joel and Ellie was really really great, especially the opening of the game. Even though Joel’s death was horrific and some perceive it to be disrespectful, I’m back and forth on where I stand on that, it was a good motivation for Ellie and even though Joel was absent his presence was always felt. Tommy was really great here too. The side characters were ok, I liked Jesse and Dinah and lev. But the reason I’m giving the game a 6 is because of the Abby portion of the game. It was so goddamn boring, having to play through those 3 days again as a character that is very unlikable. I understand that the hame was trying to make you see her perspective but I just felt nothing. Those 10+ hours really dragged and by that point I was bored with the repetitive combat situations. But then after that part of the game when you get back to Ellie was really good. The ending scene with Joel was very emotional and the last scene was really sad. I kind of understand why Ellie let Abby go but at the same time I really wanted revenge and kill her. Overall, I enjoyed the Ellie parts of the game but I really didn’t like the Abby hours. Also the graphics and gameplay were amazing, even though combat got a little repetitive towards the end. Expand

However the way of script writing is absolutely poor and not reasonable in many details.
The producer also made a misleading trailer which wants to draw more sales. Overall this game only deserves 3/10 but somehow the score has been manipulated to 5/10.

The last of us 2 isn’t a masterpiece, but it also isn’t a 5.1 game (metacritic user score). The last of us 2 has many moments that don’t mean much and have almost no deeper meaning, many of the things in the game happen because the writers wanted to “shock” the person playing it, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but when used so many times makes it less shocking and more repetitive and exhausting. I hated playing as Abby, not because she killed Joel or anything like that, I actually liked her character a lot, but because the way the story is told makes it very irritating. *Spoilers* : when Abby kills Jesse and is about to kill tommy, the only thing I wanted to know was “WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT?”, but the game then switches to Abby in Seattle Day 1, and we go almost until the end of the game playing as her. When we finally come to the scene where she might kill tommy and Ellie, the “hype” to it was almost completely lost, and it could have had more impact if they didn’t wait so long to show what happened (but that’s a very personal complaint I have, and many people might not have been bothered by it).
The Last of us 2 challenges the player to forgive. When Joel is killed by Abby all we want is to revenge him, and we believe we’ll never forgive her for doing what she did, but as the story goes, the game makes us play as her and understand her side, understand that she isn’t just an villain, which we later learn that she actually isn’t, and challenges us to forgive her. At the end of the day, The last of us 2 isn’t about revenge, it’s about Ellie’s grief, and how she deals with it. This game has challenged us to incorporate, understand and it has brought many important themes to the table. I can’t convince anyone that the game is good, because that’s my personal take on it, but I can assure anyone reading this that this isn’t a 4.8 game, and that it was very courageous of Naughty Dog to try something few games/tv shows/movies have tried before. I’ve seen many complaints about the game saying “bUt It’s A rEVeNgE sToRy, eLliE sHouLd haVe kiLled AbBy”, and I’ve got some things to tell those people: Abby did suffer, she lost all of her friends for what she did to Ellie and Joel, and I must say, being alive and having to deal with all of this is much harder than just getting killed. Second of all, if until the end of the game, after you’ve been on Abbys shoes, you still wanted her dead, then you might have won the game, but you didn’t win the mental debate Naughty Dog offered you. I’m not saying how anyone should feel about the game, I’m just saying what I believe were the intentions of Neil Druckmann (and company) while developing the game. I give The last of us 2 a 8/10, but since people are roasting the game and giving it 0 or 1 /10, I must go against that flow and give it a 10/10. It is a very divisive game, but it isn’t a bad one, and even if you didn’t like it, you must admit it isn’t a bad game.
I congratulate Naughty Dog, not for making “a masterpiece”, but for their effort on trying once again bring something new to the table.

    Sincerely,
    A TLOU fan

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This entry enhances and expands the world we met back in 2013. Here's a not-so-popular opinion, but I really enjoyed the story. The characters have a real motivation to continue their journey, no matter how much you or I think about acting differently in their places. For those characters, their reasons are valid. To say that the story is garbage because a favorite character dies? Or that the end doesn't make sense because the character's priorities change? It is a story to be enjoyed without waiting for a happy ending. After all, it is a post-apocalyptic world, where being alive is already a victory.

    Pros:
    - In technical aspects, the game brings the state of the art within the capabilities of the PS4. Graphics, animations, sound (effects and music), all first class.
    - Solid duration (I finished in more than 43 hours, but I play very slowly)
    - Each playable character has its own, customizable arsenal.
    - Various possibilities for personalizing the experience in the options menu. Many accessibility features.

    Cons:
    - I missed a greater variety in the fighting. For example, we almost always face a team of soldiers or a group of infected people. Hence, we have no incentive to vary the tactics to face them. We rarely have to face soldiers and infected at the same time, for example.
    - There is a lack of a way to track collectibles while playing.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
