Then the leak happened. Then I rented the game. Then my desire to finish became quite the struggle. I have no idea why reviewers are giving such glowing reviews to TLOU2 when there are such glaring issues to behold.

Of course the graphics are 10 out of 10 quality. It's a given. ND did an amazing job. Even the most hardcore of PC only gamers have to admit TLOU2 looks amazing. Sound quality is amazing as well. The clickers, infected, voice acting, environments, gunfire, and animals sound incredible and clear. Again, ND excels at this. But that's where the greatness of TLOU2 ends.

Gameplay is painfully average with no fleshed out additions. You sneak, you scavenge, you shoot, you craft. That's it. Its gameplay feels more like TLOU1.5 rather than it having any meaningful improvements. They have a jump button now. So what? The way characters' jump is both humorously parody and unrealistic. I can upgrade and improve my weapons like I can in a dozen other games (eg: Rise of the Tomb Raider, The Division 2, Far Cry 4). Dodging is a welcome addition, but when your AI partners don't aid you (and further break immersion when enemies should blatantly see them while you're stealthing) it becomes a mixed bag of reliability. What fundamental changes have been done to help garner perfect review scores?

Oh, it has to be the story. The lazily written, poorly formed story. Does giving veteran characters utter stupidity and naivety that they didn't have before pass for perfection? What about that really early death that felt undeserved and had zero context? Or how about playing ten hours through a game with one character only to play another character whom a lot of us don't care about for an additional similar length of time? How about shoving down our throats how wonderful this new character is and that we should care about her? What about completely destroying a character people do care about to repeat a common trope in pop culture that "revenge is bad, m'kay"?

Yes, the story sucked. Tied together with coincidence and irrational character moments, TLOU2 seems to go out of its way to emulate The Walking Dead television series. When the first game had such strong writing and characters, the sequel is a shadow of TLOU. To add further insult to injury, the marketing from this game was manipulative. Changing character models, making it seem like Joel was with Ellie in Seattle, and claiming that Ellie is the only playable character in the game makes this experience worse.

To ND leadership I say shame on you. Not only for misleading gamers with your ads and comments, but for your despicable crunch practices. Your developers deserve better. They work too damn hard for that kind of treatment. Gamers deserve better. What we PlayStation owners have enjoyed from exclusives are single-player games set in amazing worlds filled with rich lore and fleshed out characters. That includes Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us.

TLOU2 is one of the most disappointing and underwhelming games I've played in this console generation. This is not the way to help bookend the PS4. Here's hoping that Ghost of Tsushima will prove to be a better game worth your time and money.

Joel died as he should. He was not a hero, he was a trafficker who made mistakes that condemned humanity. Abby is not a villain or in any case, no more than Ellie. Even Abby spared Ellie's life twice, forgetting everything. Instead Ellie was filled with hatred and revenge. Abby proved to be better than Ellie. I did not like it at all, a very forced and inconsistent story, the mechanics of the game are not a big deal. I expected much more from this title but I must say that there was a very bad approach in this part that totally disrespects the first installment.

No spoilers: this game is everything the original was but better in every way. It plays with your heart until you can take no more and then make you dig deep to reflect on mankind and their relationships with war, hate, bigotry, racism etc.

The subtle details in this game left me in awe at every turn from enemies calling out the names of their fallen comrades to the graphical detail in all the scenes. Spoiler or not it doesn’t matter. This is a journey everyone should experience. A true evolution in how a game can tell a story with hidden subplots that ask you to think about every action you take. Play this game with an open mind and you’ll probably never play anything like it again. It’s just terrific!

(no spoilers) The amount of polarization this game is creating is fine, people are allowed to love or hate things. After playing fully through this game, the story is definitely overall a different in tone from similar blockbuster titles these days. For me, I loved where they took the story and every other part of the game.

Gameplay wise, the game is fantastic too. Fights are challenging but rewarding, and there is no one solution to approaching enemies. You can be very creative with how you get past each area. I would recommend playing this on Survivor difficulty. Although several parts can be very challenging, this difficulty pushes you to utilize all tools at your disposal and think outside the box. One specific mechanic that I love is the ability to make enemies turn on each other and sneak through the chaos that you unleashed. This is especially useful if you want to preserve supplies for a later fight. Compared to the gameplay of the first game, it feels like they refined everything that worked before, and added many new great mechanics as well.

Characters are fantastic. There is no way to properly describe why I loved the characters in this game without spoiling major parts of the plot, but overall all characters in this are dynamic, complex and easy to empathize with. I don't agree with the backlash people are giving about not making Joel's character 'true to who he was in the first game', and I urge people who feel that way to play the game FULLY through if they haven't.

Story, like the characters cannot be best described without spoiling things, so all I will say is that it is NOT The Last of Us 1 at all. It is very different. I loved how Naughty Dog told it. I feel that everything that happened within the story made sense with the actions of the characters, nothing happened "for no reason". Actions have consequences and that is a major theme in TLOU2. I understand why people are upset going into this game and expecting a similar tone to TLOU1, but Naughty Dog chose to do something very different, and you may love it you may not. You can give the story the best chance it can have by erasing any expectations going into it.

Finally graphics. They are stunning. Watch some gameplay, it just looks great. Not much more to say there.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am so disappointed with this game, I had high expectations for this game but the game didn't meet it. I always like to start on a good note, so let's start with that. First, I honestly feel this is the best graphics the PS4 can produce, Uncharted 4 impressed me so much but this game takes the win. I didn't experience no glitches and no slowdown, I do want to bring up that was I was playing this on the PS4 pro. The gameplay mechanics are very familiar to anybody who's played the first game, very easy to pick up and play. The game is one of the few triple A games that has a lengthy campaign and no lootboxes waiting for you to help you progress, aside from the different game versions you can purchase in the beginning. Now the bad side. the story is so convoluted and has no fluidity. I don't understand how they can come up with a great story with the first Last of Us and come up with this story that makes no sense. Our favorite characters from the last game are put in the back burner, and we are forced to play a hallow character that has no depth. If you're going to kill a main character, at least make a good story that flows in to it rather than just killing a character for the shock factor. Another negative to the game is the monotony of scavenging and crafting, I did not look forward to scavenging to upgrade my weapons since I figured it out earlier that Abby gets all the good equipment and Ellie doesn't get crap, at least distribute the weapons evenly. Overall, if I knew what I know now, I would not buy this day one. Learn from my mistake and wait for this game to go on sale and keep your expectations low as far as the story and replayability. This game has seriously made me think twice about buying another Naughty Dog game since I feel like they don't know how to tell a story anymore. Makes me sad that well respected companies like Naughty Dog pander to the SJW culture at the cost of losing loyal customers. Expand

Been a naughty dog fan since uncharted 1. Loved the last of us 1. I was waiting excitedly for the follow up. Unfortunately they ruined the story and I will now pretend the last of us part 2 doesn’t exist. It does however have pretty graphics though so a 1 instead of 0. Many people's problems stem from a certain event that happens in the game's prologue, and it's a shame that they are unable to overcome their disdain to give the rest of the game serious consideration. The Last of Us Part II is an incredibly sad, incredibly beautiful game with very profound messages about vengeance, forgiveness, and learning to understand others. Many reviewers are trying to generalize the entire 30 hour experience as just "revenge and violence are bad," but it is so much more than that. The storytelling is absolutely phenomenal and left me more emotionally impacted than any other game I've played--including The Last of Us 1. Additionally, the gameplay builds on the solid formula from its predecessor and remains engaging, tense, and brutal. Whoever may be reading this that is on the fence about playing this game because of its poor user score, I am begging you to give it a try. Ignore everything you hear and create your own opinion--I went in having read nothing and had an amazing experience. Just keep an open mind and consider what Naughty Dog is doing with this game. Every little thing is intentional and they all come together to create a soul-crushing cinematic story. Expand

Game shows the chain of revenge. when ı played abby for the first time, game was certainly finish by my side and I was begging to end the game but after that ı realised the game actually showed me both sides of the blade no matter how much I take ellie's side and hate abby, the game realize us what situations they are in and how environment effect them. You can see how these two warrior women fight to death for justified reasons.

    Graphics

Top point of ps4 definitely amazing.

    Hit feeling

    AMAZING!

    Environment

No matter how open world it looks, this is not the case except for a few sections. but the section designs are very successful and there are so many places to discover that you get the feel of the open world.

    Musics and sounds

    no need to speak.

    Joel

If we talk about the death of joel, no matter how shocked and upset I would be, there would be no real vengeance story for anyone other than joel, and I think the plauer could not create that exact feeling of revenge.

    Final Idea

it is not liked by most people but I think it is a nice and worthy game in general, There is a problem about some characters rub in and game fiction way controversial, but this does not mean that this game is bad, I can say that it is the most succesfull and high quality game that came out in 2020 right now.

After playing this game for almost 27 hours.. I have to say that i had a blast!!!

Lets start with the pros first...

    1. The visuals in this game and the attention to detail is just incredible. I can clearly see that the Dev's at Naughty Dog put a lot of painstaking work into perfecting this department. The atmosphere man... it nails it. I really felt like i was in the world.
    2. The sound and music is fantastic again. The way the every weapon and guns sound has a lot of oomph. The music that plays during quieter and tense combat scenes is better than the original.
    3. Main characters, other secondary NPC facial and movement animations are also very very realistic.
    4. The length of the game is a huge plus.
    5. Enemy AI and stealth is very good. Killing enemies in a gory fashion is really enjoyable, more so than any other game i have played in the recent past. It reminded me of Splinter cell Chaos theory for some reason but on steroids!!!
    6. No BS micro transactions!!!
    7. I really liked the characters in this game. Some may not be completely fleshed out as other Naughty Dog games. But they really tried their best and took a Hugh risk which i think payed off to some extent.

Now, lets get to the cons..

    1. The story is a big let down. I understand that The story and the characters in it belong to Naughty Dog and they are following their vision. But still it stings a little.
    2. Stealth encounters can be a bit repetitive.
    3. Pacing is not good. Some sections of the game experience down time but its not much.
    4. Game is bit easy even while playing on hard mode. Especially the stealth sections.

Verdict: Overall, the Last of Us 2 as a Whole is Greater than the Sum of its Parts. I thoroughly enjoyed my time playing this game and highly appreciate the artistry of what Naughty Dog has created here. The Story and these characters were created by Naughty Dog so, its their right to do what they please with them. They took a risk with the story but it did not pay off to an extent. Writing a story is not an easy job. I though the Last of Us Part 1 was a 10 but I am going to give this game a solid 9.

The only improvements I see in this game are the graphics and gameplay, which honeslty is the 90% the same as the old one and uncharted. Im not nearly as bothered by the inclusion of LGBTQ+ characters, but more of the way they are forced on you. I think there are other games that do it better and this just feels like Neil trying to push his own political agenda into players. I mean, the "Left Behind" DLC handled this in a much, MUCH, better way, especially if you consider how of an important choice is to say that the main character is gay. Did people "review bomb" that one? No, because the way the handled it was superb.

This game has a lot of flaws, and I think a lot of people are also upset with the so called "critics" who are nothing more than Sony and ND lap dogs, supporting and calling anything a "10/10" just to simpathyze with devs who LITERALLY put FALSE ADVERTISING on their trailers.

It sucks that people cant give it an honest review its all either 10/10 from fanboys or 0's from haters.

I'm happy to admit I was wrong. While not as focused, maybe, as the first, it's a sprawling emotional epic that addresses *that* ending of part one slowly and with great care over the course of its 25-30 hour play. It manages to dissect that final moment between Ellie and Joel from Part 1 in a comprehensive and thoughtful way. The Naughty Dog team is able to express so much through the mood and tone alone-- lighting, sound design and music, the sets (the decaying cities being reclaimed by nature-- that layering of worlds-- has never been so well realized), the camera work-- the crew members at Naughty Dog are the real stars. That's not to say the performances aren't great. Ashley Johnson once again is a stand out as Ellie. Ellie transforms over the course of the story, events slowly wear her down, but we are also given glimpses of her younger, vibrant and hopeful self as well. That's all made possible by Ashley Johnson's voice work and motion/facial captured performances. Troy Baker's Joel is an older Joel. Nostalgic and wistful. Sad. Lonely. Kind. Clumsy. Brutal. His conscience is clearly weighing on him and Baker can show this by saying very little.

Where it was the morality of the ending of part one that was so... discussion-worthy for me and many others, this game I find myself thinking over moral dilemmas from several points in the game's story after having finished it. There is a lot to chew on here with themes of forgiveness and empathy, tribalism, vengeance/justice, and dealing with grief/loss present both in the main story and throughout the environments and contextual notes. The Last of Us as a series presents us with acts of violence or selfishness as contagious as the fungal infection-- cause and effect; the cure presented in Part 2 is not a vaccine, but an act of kindness and selflessness that can be equally as contagious.

Aside from all that, it's a brutal post-apocalyptic neo-noir western revenge story. Film and literary references to stories about cycles of violence and vengeance (Moby Dick, Godfather Part II, Princess Mononoke, to name a few), too, are dense and sprinkled sprinkled throughout. It's a well crafted, tight 3rd person stealth action shooter with tense and desperate combat, some light crafting, engaging environmental puzzles... What more do you want from a game?

The story may have gone in a direction that a lot of people disagree with, but if you just get over that fact the story that they went with is solid and leaves an interesting possibility for a future game. I loved that both playable characters had their own unique weapons, skills, and both had a distinctly different feel to them. A lot of the criticisms I had heard prior to playing the game are simply not true, I Waited for and looked for certain things To show up that people had issues with and they never came up. Definitely recommend. Expand

This game is a mess and it is simply nothing compared to the first part. Gameplay is even more boring then it was in the first one and story (which for I loved first part so much) is just a joke to say the least.
Most of new characters are just boring and I had no interest playing in the company of those.

The story is just so badly written and everything happening in it is just a spit to the face of the original. I'm really sad about this game... i was very hyped up to buy it, but then they had to go and mess up everything.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. SPOILERS. People are trying to say 'You're SUPPOSED to hate playing as Abby!', 'You're SUPPOSED to hate fighting Ellie'.. So they make parts of a game that we are supposed to hate and then are surprised we hate it? I was sad at what happened with Joel, sure, but it was not surprising. A main character dying is not a surprise (its been done, a lot). I was expecting it in part I, was pleasantly surprised he survived. Now it's 'Don't you know these characters are flawed?'... Yeah, Joel basically doomed humanity in game one, you are not amazing for realising he isn't perfect. GTA you play as a sadistic murderer. You don't wish you were playing as a cop. Amazingly, I didn't care about Abby's journey, because I didn't come back for her. Want a new story? Make a new game. I wanted all Ellie's journey. The people we came back for, having played the first game. New games have been made with side characters that are awesome - Chloe in Uncharted standalone game? Awesome. But they don't force it upon you, especially when that character murders the person you spent the entire first game bonding with and understanding. But considering game one was NOT done in irritating constant flashbacks, but was linear in its timeline, and only did character changes when the other main character was out of commission, it made sense. As Ellie, I was exploring everything, I was checking everything, because I was rooting for her. I wanted her and Dina to succeed in what they set out to do. I was worried for them. I wanted them to get home together. I wanted her to have the best weapons and gear. As Abby, I raced through every aspect of it, because I didn't care. I knew I didn't want her to survive! And that means I didn't care about most of the game. And in the end, there was literally no satisfaction. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Where to begin...the story of Last of Us II is a catastrophic failure. The reason for this is the same reason Game of Thrones Season 8 ended hollow, or why Star Wars VII-IX rang hollow. The reason is that the 'plot' does not 'earn' the story. In Star Wars, the characters don't evolve at all, they're just carried forward by the story and plot sometimes does and sometimes doesn't make sense in this regard. In Game of Thrones, Daenerys had every reason to burn the Red Keep to the ground and kill Cersei. The plot however did not give her reason to kill children and other civilians. But that's the story D&D wanted to tell so that's the story that got told, whether or not the plot supported it.

Unlike movies and TV series however, what Mr. Druckman fails to remember is that Last of Us 2 is also an 'interactive' medium, which means that players do own their outcomes. Choice means players are invested in that outcome. Choice on how to navigate through a dangerous part of the game, choice on whether or not to throw the ball to the dog or outside the fence (as Abby), big choices and little choices. And in Last of Us Part II, key character decisions (such as whether Nora lives or dies, or Abby lives or dies, are critical to have the player 'engage' and feel responsible and accountable to the result).

Let's take Joel as an example. He could have had a choice, either go back with the strangers he met in the snow, or part ways and trudge through Clickers with no ammunition and injuries. It's likely in both cases he'd have died as a result of the circumstances. At least in either case though, the player, not Mr. Druckman, are determining the outcome of their beloved characters. That's the difference between unidirectional media (movies or novels) and interactive media (Last of Us and Last of Us 2).

Now Mr. Druckman might say that players had no more choices in part 1 than part 2. To an extent this is accurate, however in part 2 the stakes are a lot higher. The higher the stakes, the more opportunity players should have to be accountable for the outcome. Mass Effect (except the tail end of Mass Effect 3) did this brilliantly (and it too is a narrative game, so it can be done).

Taking the interactive part out of the equation for a minute, there is 'plot' and 'story.' The story is what happens, and the plot are the events that lead us to the story's conclusion. (What happens? Joel dies would be a story). The plot, he is killed by someone who wants revenge or he is killed by clickers or he is killed by extreme cold etc. And each of these plot points have impacts on the characters who experience them.

In one case, Ellie would blame herself for 'not' going with the strangers, in another she'd want revenge for what they did etc. The 'plot' allows for the story to advance. Without a plot, the story is not 'earned' and feels shallow or forced. That is what happens with Last of Us 2. Mr. Druckman forces characters to act against their own established modus operandis in order to artificially create plot that drives the story into the revenge/divisive brutal allegory that Last of Us 2 becomes.

Unfortunately though, because a logical plot was abandoned to maintain the story that Mr. Druckman wanted to tell, Last of Us 2 is an abysmal tale of preaching about revenge, was rife with deus ex machina, and had a litany of plot holes.

To you folks at Naughty Dog. It's not that Joel died, it's not even how he died, nor is it playing Abby for 10 hours that causes the frustrations among your most ardent fans. It's that the plot does not lead to those outcomes being earned or logical. The plot points you provided require suspension of disbelief, disengagement by the player, or acceptance that the characters' victories in Last of Us 1 were hollow and pointless and thus, the player's time invested in that game was meaningless. See where this is going?

That may be the story you wanted to tell, great. It's your IP. Just give your players enough credit and have your writing team work a bit harder so the story is earned by the plot.

As of now, because story is so central to Last of Us 2, and because it is so abysmally told through this game, you get a 1 rating from me on Metacritic (this is how I choose to voice my discontent with your approach to this game that 'I' put many hours into playing - It's my time to use as I see fit, I chose to play Last of Us 2, I regret doing so, and I'm telling you through my score that I regret doing so for ALL of the reasons I listed above).

No amount of graphics, clever game-play, or amazing acting and motion capture can overcome LOU2's deficiency in plot and story. I hope next time, you give your fans enough credit and let them take part in bringing the story to the conclusion you want, vs cramming it down their throats with a plunger. We actually are smarter than you seem to think we are.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The story was fantastic, but there were problems.First problem wasnt HOW Joels death was executed, it was way too early.I have a explanation why they trusted them, simply because they didnt know they were there. They saved Abby, Tommy said their names, which is logical, she was alone and they thought she was scared, so she knew that was the Joel that killed her father, said that her friends are in a cabin north from there.I mean, they had no choice, either go with her or get infected there.Second problem was the Seraphites and WLF.Fireflies were a much better written and explained organisation.Lets see, at the beginning of the first TLOU, Sarah died and then the intro sequence rolls up.The guy on the radio or whatever talks something about Los Angeles being the latest city placed under martial law, then they mention the execution of six more alleged Fireflies. They we can hear Marlene or someone else talking about looking for the light and believing in them, the Fireflies. We questioned ourselves who are they...Throghout the game we didnt meet them much, but they well better explained.Marlene, ending, beginning, iconic firefly logo. Then the DLC happened. Then we look in Seraphites, they were beatifully presented in the 2017 trailer, while they were hanging Abby, but throghout the game we only shoot with them and find a few artifacts and then we see their village. Not really much, but still not very bad.WLF on the other hand, we can read a lot of letter from or to Isaac, but we only see him twice. We see they are a big organisation, but they dont really have a goal. They want to have that territory for themselves and thats it.Fireflies wanted that too, but they wanted to make the cure, even tho it was not really possible. Both are terrorist organisations.I dont see WLF or Seraphites as a bad writing, only i see a little more potential.I really liked the ending, i didnt even want to kill Abby, i hated her guts in the beginning, and at the middle of the game, but i went in the game with a neutral opinion, as i saw all the leaks a month before.I still hated her friends, only not Owen.He didnt even want to kill Joel, and he was the reason Tommy and Ellie didnt get killed at the beginning. There were some good moments just like in TLOU1, Ellie playing the guitar to Dina, before the ending at the farm, the beginning while they smoke weed and a few others, i cant remember at the moment. As of SJW or LGBT agenda, i honestly didnt saw it much.Isaac was a black guy, but he wanted to kill Lev, a child, so clearly an indication there isnt much SJW in that matter, women died in the game, males died.Only LGBT agenda i can see is the Lev thing, and it wasnt really pressured and shoved down our throats. The other is Dina and Ellie, but it also wasnt shoved down our throats, they kissed twice in the game and thats it.As for the ending, its iconic.Abby is a reflection of Ellie, both are blinded by revenge.Joel killed her father (with a good reason in my opinion, but thats up to the player, if the vaccine really worked then it wasnt, its a matter of opinion), Abby tracked down Joel in 4 years time, and killed him, by luck, he still saved her life, but she was blinded by revenge.Ellie saw her father figure die, so she went on revenge, killed all her friends, and Tommy killed Manny, but still, they didnt felt different, it didnt bring back Joel.At the end, Ellie finds Abby helpless and cuts her down.Abby doesnt try to fight, she cuts Lev down. She brings Lev to the boat, everyone around them is empty, only water as a representation of void, they have nothing to fight for, both have lost almost everything. In Uncharted 4 ending, Rafe and Nate are fighting around the treasure, they found it, but they are not fighting for the treasure, Nate is fighting to save his brother, Rafe is fighting to show that he is better than them.So Ellie starts fighting with Abby, stabs her twice. At the end, she starts drowning her, and she saw Joel in her mind. Most of people are hating this ending, but she didnt spare Abby because she thinks it was right to kill Joel, but she saw herself in Lev and Abby was Joel.If she kills Abby, Lev might come for revenge 10 years later, so she has three choices.1. Spare Abby 2.Kill Abby and kill Lev out of fear of possible vengeance 3.Kill only Abby and live in fear that Lev might come and kill her.Ellie broke the cycle, with consequences. This game wasnt a masterpiece, but it was very close to a masterpiece. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A divisive game but one that is very important. What at first appears to be a rather generic plot that is told well, with an incredibly bold move in killing off a beloved character, transforms into something quite remarkable. I’ve never played a game before that is so provocative, ambitious, relevant, challenging and bold in its execution. It tests the very fabric of the players sense of morality and hits with a profound sentiment. The game is borderline Shakespearean in its approach to the human condition in a way that gaming could only attempt. A true testament in the evolution of gaming, I feel this title is further proof that gaming is the best platform for art in history. It’s a game you have to experience, watching it or reading a review doesn’t do it justice, because it is a story to provoke and test you the individual. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Having played Part I, arguably also one of the best video games of the past generation, my expectations for the sequel were very, very high. I did my best to avoid the leaks prior to launch, and took my time playing the game, until the very end. It's almost hard to believe Sony and Naughty Dog took so many risks with a AAA title, but thankfully they did, and hopefully paved the way for others to follow. The narrative is extremely well thought, and intense. Every graphical, audio, and game play-related aspect has been improved and feels next-gen. But the story, the dialogues, the character building, are what makes The Last of Us Part II an unforgettable experience, and one especially important to engage with, and think about, during these troubling times. Voice acting is good, but the story sucks and Abby is a very unlikable and unsympathetic character. Joel's death makes no sense when you've played the first game. In the first game Joel runs a guy who is pretending to be sick just because he didn't trust a stranger. But in the second game he just gives his name to a group of strangers who he just met which leads to him getting killed. They try to force you to like Abby and make Ellie look like the bad guy. Example, Anby is shown playing with a dog while Ellie is killing dogs left and right. Abby's crew are also unlikable and uninteresting characters. There is a pregnant woman in Abby's crew that insists on being on the frontlines instead of staying at base to care for her unborn child. She is needlessly putting the health and wellbeing of her unborn child at risk for a reason I'm not sure, I find this to be a very stupid thing to do. Just stay at base until your baby is born. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's this simple. The positives: The graphics are fantastic, the game is longer (which can be a negative at times), the level design bigger/better than the original & the gameplay is slightly improved from the original, but nothing drastic. The jump button is a welcome addition, but it's barely useful for anything at all.

The negatives: The story is abysmal & depressing. I honestly don't know if I ever played a more depressing game with characters I could care less about. Besides the stuff with Joel, Ellie becomes almost completely unlikable, by the end of the game, I didn't care about any of the characters at all. I just wanted it to be over. On top of this, The decisions & conclusions the characters make are completely irrational and illogical. It's a complete disservice to Joel, Ellie and the original story. The gameplay while slightly improved feels dated and gets boring & really drags through the second half.

It's definitely not worth 60 bucks, I wish I would've waited for a used copy down the road. Selling this one on Ebay!

The game is a masterpiece, don’t watch it, don’t ask for it, just play it and see by yourself.

Well, I actually dont expect anyone to check out this review since the game got advertised everywhere as "the best game ever" but f*ck it, this is wrong on so many levels.

To begin with, the trailer that was released nearly 3 years ago about Ellie singing is misleading and has absolutely nothing to do with the actual game. In TLOU part 2 you wont get to kill or encounter fireflies (you do encounter former fireflies but whatever) and the new enemies of the game are some random people you never heard of, that are introduced with the killing of the main character in the series. The rest of the game is about seeking vengeance featuring Ellie and Abby ?! One of the people you hate straight from the beginning.
You then spend hours in the same city (whereas in the first game you would actually play out a whole year) over only 3 days and that's basically 90% of the game. What actually makes the game really unlikeable is the fact that you play as Abby (i have nothing against the character although its introduction was meant to make the player hate it) for nearly 9-10 hours to show you that she isnt all wrong after all but what do we care tbh ? At this point of the game, the devs are just trying to force the player to like a character he labelled as the worst thing ever few hours back.

But that's the plot, it's up to everyone to like it or not (and i'm not even talking about THAT sex scene, you what what i mean, that was really out of place and unnecessary, or the end that's not only sad but also frustrating and really not rewarding to the players that spent hours on the game).

What makes the game really bad (in my opinion) is that it doesnt make any sense from the very beginning and is a disgrace to TLOU. Let me explain :

At the very beginning of the game, you discover Abby and it is made very clear that she's looking for someone (we quickly understand that she's looking for Joel). She then, by some miracle gets rescued by this one guy out of everyone that could be patrolling.

' I take a short moment to remind you that in the first game it is made clear that neither Joel nor Tommy are stupid in any way, it is shown several moments that Joel is smart and the reason he's still alive after all this time is because he doesnt trust easily (just see how long it took him to accept Ellie is immune, how he dealt with Henry and Sam, how he found out about the ambush etc...) Basically, this guy might no be a genius but he's smart enough to be cautious about people.

Then after, he (and his brother) follows Abby to her camp and then settle there without being careful what so ever, enter in their place apparently unarmed (at least for Joel) and then walk out in the middle of a room before telling out loud his name. Then gets surprised people know about him and doesnt even try to draw his gun, no. The guy that we learned to love in the first game despite all the pain he causes around him and the fact that he lies about Ellie, all of that is gone because he's now turned into a dumbass. I'm not gonna lie, at this point of the game i was already done and I never felt this pissed in a story-based videogame before. I didnt want to play anymore because what was next was pretty straight forward and predictable, its about seeking revenge.

Not only is this enough to ruin everything you built up with the main protagonist of the first game that is now regarded as some idiot that can't fight back and dies for the sole purpose of giving a reason to play the game, but everyone has no also turned into some Biblic good samaritan and every time Ellie / Abby could die, they are spared for no valid reason except that they are main characters. In the first game, it didnt take longer that seconds for Joel to finish off Marlene because HE KNOWS she would go after them, gosh they even made it a thing in the first game. But in part 2 nah, lets not kill the girl that pretends she'll kill us. Nah, lets not kill the girl that's friend with a pregnant woman. Nah let's not kill the girl that killed my beloved spiritual father figure, my friend after i just had to kill nearly 200 people just to get to her.

Idk man, this is disappointing. Dont buy this game, it's a major let down. Lets just hope they wont ruin it any more with a part 3...

This game asks you to experience the game from the perspectives of both the playable character's. Once you're able to you're treated to one of the most well written narratives presented in the form of a video game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game could've been so much more, it had so much potential and unfortunately just missed the mark.

The visuals of the game, graphics, world building, the tiny stupid little details that make all the difference are absolutely on point, the new variations and behaviours of the infected is intense, the stalkers in the school and the rat king were some of the most intense game play moments I've had in a long time, the seraphites had such an interesting and different aura surrounding then with all the whistles as they hunt you. All of this, was absolutely fantastic, and were worth waiting for. And the fact the game released perfectly polished seems to be a rare gem in this day and age.

Unfortunately though, the story itself leaves alot to be desired, the way the game was advertised was that we would get another game with us following our favourite father/daughter duo take on the world, and that wasn't the case, disappointing yes but not a deal breaker, losing Joel, I could've been alot more ok with that if it was done the right way, it just seems to have been done for shock value, and the whole game seemed to be, Ellie bad, Abby gooood, even down to the smallest things, Ellie kills dogs (ND said we wouldn't have to which was **** ), Abby plays with dogs, specifically the one Ellie kills you have no choice at all but to kill thanks to the quick time event. But I digress. Just to get this out of the way, I have no problem at all with the LGBTQ+ characters, I had no problem with Ellie finding herself in the first games dlc, so why would I be negative about it now, Abby being an absolute unit is not a bad thing, she's a soldier, so yeah she works out, alot so she can be fit and fight, and it also gives her an outlet, cool, it doesn't make me feel anything negative, Lev being trans is not a bad thing he was also an interesting character, bit the ones who base Thier opinions on this stuff bing negative are just dicks, end of.

I think realistically, I would've preferred not to play as Abby in the main game, as a dlc absolutely, I think that could've worked but have it from where the first game ends, where father dies and follow her through her transformation, with her journey to Washington etc.

Not sure what else to say really, I loved the game play, how it looked, ND are fantastic at that stuff, unfortunately the story was just poorly written, and expected even worse. I expected more, we deserved more.

I love the first game and I had so much respect for Naughty Dog. I didn't expect them to do what they did so great in the first game so poorly in TLOU2. I didn't expect them to do what they did so great in the first game so poorly in TLOU2. The've forgotten how strongly players loved Joel and Ellie and the bond between them. Throughout my playthrough, i'm left feeling miserable because of how i'm being forced to play Abby, and the fact that there has been minimal payoff for my actions throughout the game. I found myself jumping off of cliffs as Abby because I just hate her. On top of that, it makes me cringe at how hard they are trying to get you to like Abby and hate Ellie. The story, plot, and character development in this game is backwards and confusing. Other elements such as audio and gameplay are great, and this game has the best visuals I have ever seen. But because this games focuses on narrative, and yet does it so poorly, I must also rate it poorly. After finishing the game, I asked myself, "Was it worth it"? Expand

So far, I thought the gameplay was really good, as well as the graphic, animation, and environments; though the story can be controversial, but personally I thought the story was pretty good, definitely not as air tight than the first one but it can still stand on its own

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
