I have no words, this game is a mix of sadness and happiness, that make me feel empty.
Like "I know that append, but I don't want to accept it".
The end it's something I have never seen before, I was litteraly crying.
The final flashback of joel give a sense to all story but it hurts seeing him sad for ellie, knowing that he would die.

It's written so perfectly that it makes you feel in the character's shoes. You question everything and battle your own thoughts and opinions. It challenges you as a player to stop thinking like one.
I knew some of the leaks, and still when plot points that i already knew happened, they hit me like a train because how well executed they were.

Thought provoking story, amazing and believable characters, incredible acting, beautiful graphics, out of this world audio design.

I can easily say it's 10/10. It is now my favourite game. Made me cry a lot. I'll start replaying it once i'm feeling okay again.

Masterpiece. Really made me look at the characters not just as zombie killers who are surviving the apocalypse but as fully fleshed out human beings with motives and feelings of their owns. Environment is on a whole nother level. Fun mechanics and they really reward exploration. Had a blast, shed some tears, and really enjoyed every minute

The ideas behind what they were trying to do with the story are decent albeit bland, however the issue with the story is how they execute those ideas. Characters are also forgettable or shadows of their former selves. I give the game this rating because it has very nice visuals (AAA standard for 2020). This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you expect uncharted 4 with zombies you may as well not buy it. Don’t get me wrong, I love Uncharted! But this game is an emotional roller-coaster containing everything:
    - violent endings
    - empathy and moral dilemma - gore and terror
    - revenge and pain
    - teardrops and anger
    - love

It’s basically entertainment for grownups, not children. It’s a story that makes you feel and it seems that some people can’t handle that. Spoilers below:

You’ll probably be as shocked as I was when Negan killed my favorite characters in The Walking Dead when Joel dies. You will feel betrayed and hurt. I believe some people gave the game a bad review solely because of that twist in the game. Same thing happened to the walking dead tv series. A lot of people quit the show because of that. Except real fans.

Don’t worry though. Joel will be present throughout the game. Abby is another great character you get to know and love. The dynamics of this love/hate relationship between you and the characters as well as between the characters themselves is emotional and well done. There’s seldom a game that has put me through so many different feelings and emotions. Abby is an intriguing character. I love how the game portraits her. She’s not conventional at all and after reading some other reviews of the game I can’t help but comment on this: 1) the game couldn’t care less about explaining her gender identity because it wasn’t needed to be explained. If you think she’s a trans or gay or whatever, that says more about you than the character. 2) Ellie was always a gay character and that’s not a spoiler, have you even played the previous game?

The ending is open. It’s room for more storytelling. Ellie’s journey has not ended. Neither has Abby’s.

10 out of 10 from me.

The development between characters and even less important ones seemed so life like. Only a 9 not a 10 because I get emotionally invested in everything and cried at the end. I got upset only because the characters were brought to life and felt so real in this game, so much I didn’t like how Ellie ended up alone after the first game she told Sam that was her biggest fear. The game almost seems to be directed and written by different people who have completely different views on what the first game was, what it was about, and the justification for the things that the characters did in that setting.

This game took a turn basically the way GoT did. The first seasons were well fleshed out and thoughtful then in the last few seasons it seems like a completely different entity. This is exactly the way TLOU2 feels while playing. Its the same "show" just in essence just completely different from what came before it.

The game definetly has excellent graphics, character animations/great facial expressions, weapons and customization options, good sound quality and solid AI, but the storyline is very disappointing. I think that after ending of the first chapter losing Joel in such a controversial manner wasn't appropriate. Moreover being obliged to play and emphasize with the character that killed him for literally ages feels very forced and painful . The ending is the worst though, it made me feel depressed and empty, like i wasted money and time for nothing.

Aside from all that we all expected the Combat, Gameplay, Customization, Visuals, Graphics, Soundtrack, Infected, Mechanics, AI to be phenomenal which it was but with The Last Of Us being a mostly story driven game and “Ellies Revenge” never really being a thing I think its fair to rate it a 5/10 would I buy it again ? Definitely not for the 60$ price point especially with it having no multiplayer mode but if you could snatch it for a lower price it definitely would not be a complete waste like I said right direction but was not executed in the right way not that everyone expected it to be a Disney fairytale but it really does feel like there’s no possible way this is what a company like Naughty Dog comes up with in a 6 year development of one of the most cherished PlayStation exclusives of all time Expand

Here is my review of The Last of Us Part II, a sequel to The Last of Us released 7 years earlier.

    Game Design:

From a gameplay point of view, we find the solid foundations of the first game improved to provide a more complex experience. Hand-to-hand combat becomes technical, the infiltration phases completely change facets (thanks to the possibility of crawling) and the shooting sequences are always as involved. The game includes many new gameplay mechanics that add to the gaming experience.

The level design is also very good. The levels are now more open (although remaining in a "corridor game") and invite you to explore. You never lose sight of your goal but you easily find yourself going the opposite way to explore all the nooks and crannies of the area and discover what it contains. And there are many things to discover: collectibles, small pieces of narration to trigger, craft resources, etc. ; all without ever getting bored. The presence of puzzles that are neither too hard nor too complex enhance the expertise of Naughty Dog in terms of level design.

    Graphics:

Graphically, the game is of course magnificent. We are close to photorealism and we are sometimes surprised to be "only" in front of a video game as the world created and its details are glaring in realism. The animations of the characters and their reactions according to the actions of the player make them "real".

    Sound Design

Playing is an auditory orgasm, whether for sound effects or voice acting.

As with The Last of Us, the game benefits from the music of Gustavo Santaolalla which, although discreet, is always there when it is needed.

    Scenario (without spoilers)

Naughty Dog has always had great scriptwriting ambitions, and The Last of Us Part 2 proves it once again.

The story is poignant from start to finish, but it is also surprising. For 7 years and the thousands of possible theories concerning this sequel, it would have been difficult to think that the scenario would take such a turn. Do not start the game imagining that you will have the perfect scenario that you had imagined. This will not be the case. Launch the game to have the pleasure of discovering something new.

Prepare to be shocked, intrigued, moved, angry, happy, thoughtful but never disappointed. It is a story which does not spare the player, but which is worth seeing (and played).

    Conclusion:

The Last os Us Part 2 is the worthy successor of the first opus. It even hits harder than its predecessor for the reasons mentioned above. Naughty Dog understood what worked best in The Last of Us and sublimated it in Part II. A unique and rare experience that takes the quality of the video game industry up a notch.

And since it must be given a rating: 9/10 (because no game is and will never be 100% perfect)

The narrative, if it can really be called that, is so jarring and unintuitive as it sucks you away from the momentum and action with poorly utilized flashbacks with no real impact or purpose. Great graphics, and game play quite fun... But I felt like there was an agenda aside from making a good game, that was trying to make some kind of point that had nothing to do with the story. The visuals and audio in the game are head and shoulders above it’s competition. They use sound expertly to build and release tension as well as create some real moments of horror. The set pieces are spectacular and awe-inspiring. This is what we’ve come to expect from perfectionists Naughty Dog.

In terms of story, this game sets out to tell a very different one from the first. It’s gritty and often leaves the player feeling a sense of hopelessness. The story does have moments of light and dark but offers nowhere near as much light as the first entry in the series. Some may like this approach, whilst others might hate it. I personally loved the approach that they took with the game; the key element to the story pivoting around the idea of differing perspectives. Naughty Dog could’ve played it safe and made a predictable story that doesn’t bring any new ideas to the table.

Where do I begin? Joel previously left a family pleading for help on the side of the road. Joel saw through an ambush and ran a man over. He was willing to kill both Henry and Sam and yelled at Ellie when she intervened. He's a 25 year apocalyptic veteran with hundreds if not thousands of kills and murders under his belt.
Yet he voluntarily saved Abby despite a hoard of infected all rushing them. He volunteered personal information to her and treated her as if she were a guest of his and offered for her to come back to camp and resupply. He dropped his guard and followed her back to her place to meet up with her people. That's not what Joel does or who he is.

We then take over the game as Abby AS JOEL'S KILLER and play 40% of the game as her with the intent of killing Ellie. The story of the first game is actually detrimental to the story of this one. The writing in the first had us grow with her, bond with her, and become family with her. You now want us as the player to actively try to kill her?? Without establishing any context beforehand, just out of the blue murders Joel. No amount of writing will ever get us to see things from her point of view after that. First impressions take seconds and changing that viewpoint can take years. No amount of playing as Abby has changed my mind that she killed Joel the way that she did and so soon in the game.

The first game was THE BEST GAME OF ALL TIME and Naughty Dog just shat all over us. Neil wanted a divisive game about hate, said it would polarize the fans, and said repeatedly the game is not fun. F this. How is a game about hate, violence, and revenge going to end on a note of mercy and compassion? It's very clear that the writers of this game are not the same writers from the first.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. THE LAST OF US (a love letter in a world of hate)

"This is how life goes, you are not defined by your death nor the way you go, you are defined by the memories you shared with the ones you loved" - Daniel Barragán

This is not just another video game, this is a story that had to be told.

The whole game was a kick to the face, it hurt and quite a lot, and not because the video game, or the narrative were bad (because they are not), on the contrary, Neil is one of the best writers of his generation, and I understand his discontent for the bad reaction of many of his followers.

In the last of us both parts work as one and it does it in a sublime way, there are very few video games or I would even dare to say movies that achieve what Neil and his team did, the attachment that existed on the part of the main actors ( Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson) to their characters made this story even more personal since there were several important changes that happened thanks to the contributions of the actors.

I love the fact that Ashley Johnson has an indescribable love for her character and for the game:
"This game is a huge part of me"
Johnson A. "Last of us 2 spoilercast" (https://youtu.be/g6rRfK-V2jY)

How you handle loss during the course of the game is probably the main factor in your discontent, as it clouds everything around you to some degree, but as many fans should already know, "the last of us" is a game. with a REALISTIC focus, in the history of video games and most of titles make you see yourself as "the protagonist", "the untouchable", unfortunately this is not the reality, everything you see, can go in one second and in an infinity of ways.

Death is something that comes unexpectedly, something you can not adorn even if you do your best, you should not worry about how to die, but how to live while you still have time.

It took me a while to get through the bitter drink, but that's the way it is.

In relation to the "antagonist" (Abbey) I will never be able to empathize with someone of her caliber (after what she did), at a certain point you manage to understand the reason for her incessant desire to kill Joel, who ultimately becomes the Ellie's same desire / addiction for killing her, a vicious circle of revenge that as we saw can be very dangerous.

Playing with the antagonistic character is a very risky move that Neil took, and indeed, I hated every second, but I couldn't deny the fact that it was an essential part of the story and that one of my favorite scenes takes place while you play with she (the war between the seraphites and the wolves), this scene together with the soundtrack is an injection of adrenaline, in the midst of the chaos that breaks out between two "cults" that after all for lack of dialogue and their different methods to achieve the same objective, they cause a carnage, taking everything in their path (even children).

I could go on to say an endless number of wonders of this installment, from the symbolism, the small details and references, the soundtrack, the soundtrack, the photography outside and inside the cinematics, the criticism of the way to carry out certain religions and As they conflict, the incredible and subtle way they introduced the LGBT community from the first game, the DLC, and how it continued and developed, even the simplest details in the dialogue make the difference between a good and a bad script.

She couldn't even have asked for a more poetic ending, after Ellie's intense fear of ending up alone, which was raised from the very first installment, along with her childhood story, which she discusses with Joel and is featured in the comic and on "left behind "(where all her loved ones die or abandon her), and after all the decisions she made, good or bad, her greatest fear ended up becoming reality, leaving her with no other option but to accept it.

A devastating ending and certainly not for anyone.

But the most heartbreaking part is the one on the porch, where Joel says to Ellie:

    - "If somehow God gave me another chance, I would do it all over again" (referring to saving her)

    To which Ellie replies:

    -Yes ... I just ... I don't think I can forgive you ...

(because for her, dying to give a cure to humanity would have given her life meaning)

Ellie: But I would like to try.

    Joel: I would like that.

    Ellie: okay.

Thus ending the last words that were said, with another "okay" (same as in the first game, but with a different meaning)

I couldn't contain the tears in that scene ...

The relationship between Joel and Ellie and the love of "father and daughter" never disappears, it is absent after his death, but it stays there ... in her memories. When a story is told from the heart it becomes art, and it can be seen from the passion transmitted by those who managed to develop this love masterpiece. ... because that's what The Last of Us is a love letter for those who leave and stay in our memory.

As others have stated this is a beautiful piece of art. Visually, I agree that this game is beautiful. However, visuals aren't everything. The statement that I hear most often repeated is that this game's message is "revenge is bad". Okay, so with that being said, this game wants to send a positive message like "embrace forgiveness"? No.
Then I hear that this game is edgy and an emotional gut punch. However, the writer Neil Druckmann seems to contradict that when he reveals his motivations for the story were inspired by a heanius act that he witnessed in his youth and his dark thoughts afterward. So you want to depict in your artwork how disgusted you are by humanity? That's okay with me, however, I won't be purchasing it.
In closing, I'd like to say that I believe someone's personal and philosophical beliefs marred what should have been a meaningful conclusion/continuation of a beloved franchise.

Quem são os heróis, ou vilões em The Last of Us Part 2? Um jogo pra ficar na história! Nota 10.

The games visuals are beautiful, the gameplay is so smooth and realistic. The gore is perfectly done, every death feels horrible, there is nothing romanticised about it. And the fact that naughty dog make us play a character we are taught to hate then empathise them was a very risky choice but it definitely worked very well. I could go into it more but I can't be arsed.

Actually now that I think about it when I was 5 I was coming up with way better stories then just “You killed my father prepare to die” ... did Neil druckman watch princess bride and say “yea... this Diego Montoya guy gets it...” lol. I mean princess bride did that because it was incredibly cheesy and stereotypical and because of that it’s a comedy... and a damn good one too... TLOU2 was supposed to be a drama... Shakespeare would be rolling in his grave for mixing these two concepts. (Besides, when I was a kid playing with the army men. My protagonist actually killed the guy who killed his father... He didn’t Pu$$¥ out at the last second like in TLOU2 LolZ. What Terrible terrible writing... ) I’m legit worried about the HBO tv show cuz druckman is directing that too... can someone fire him off it and invite in the actual original creator and writer of the first TLOU? She actually knows how to captivate an audience for a decade. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us II is a game whose story challenges the player in ways that most other games don't. Like many games, it makes the player feel strongly about its characters. Unlike many games, it uses its narrative to ask the player to change their minds about them. To see that your attachment to a character doesn't make them a hero. And that the the person you see as a villain can be motivated by the same internal interests as the characters you love. Many will have you believe the story is bad, or stupidly simple. That is not the case here. This game is just more emotionally complex than a lot of people are ready for right now. Many people had certain expectations for what should happen in a story, and when those expectations weren't met, they blamed the story. This game turns what seems like a revenge plot on the surface into an emotional mountain climb. It's tough to experience, but worth it in the end. Expand

There were many moments where I put away my controller because i needed to get myself together before being able to continue playing. That might sound like a negative thing, but those moments, when you pause or even quit the game for a moment and think about what's happening, are exactly what Naughty dog want from you. The story constantly makes you feel contradictory, and i love it for it.
Besides this, the gameplay was similar to that of the first game but more streamlined, more realistic and with more options for how you want to approach combat and non-combat situations. It took the good parts of the gameplay of the first game and improved on it.
The game looks stunning, i was impressed that all of this was possible on a PlayStation 4.
Then there is the acting and the music. I'm putting both of these together because it without it the story would have fallen flat and both were able to deliver the extra layer of emotion that was necessary for me to give this game a 10.
Overall i'd say, if you liked the last of us (part 1?), and liked how in that game you were made to think about morality because of how you were forced to do something you might not have done yourself and liked how Naughty dog is able to make you feel all kinds of things, I think you will like this game just as much as the first one.

Consequently, because of the display of poor lack of character by Druckmann; I’m actually now convinced Amy being forced out of Naughty Dog by Neil’s wishes wasn’t ever a lie, only a slight of hand to get his name out on top; the same way he chose to raise Abby an unwanted absurd character to hero status who deserved no recognition from a audience who never expected her. You’re sick Druckmann!! You must truly believe the mind of gamers are easily manipulated. This game feels like it’s made to insult : family, hope, common sense, God, and relationship while protecting evil. I have no idea where you guys cried after playing it , but I’m pretty sure you lied about your tears as well. Reader..... This game was made to hurt you if you are a lover of the first game. It does not belong as a story. Please!! Bring Amy back, or get her recommendation because Druckmann vision and writing choices are obtuse. Naughty Dog, pay attention to this outcry, you dropped the ball hard, and it because you gave the position to a bench player when it needed a high class starter. I beg the gaming community to boycott any current or future directed or written Niel Druckmann video games , he deserves to be left with nothing the same way he chose to leave Ellie, and or Hopes.

    Sincerely, Fire Niel Druckmann

Is beautiful and horrifying. Sweet and bitter (mostly bitter).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Playing through the game, I wanted to give the writing the benefit of the doubt that it would get better. It didn't.

There are SO MANY things the writer could have done but didn't and it destroyed what a great game it could have been story wise. The gameplay is the only redeeming quality of this game.

My reasoning As a writer: (Spoiler warning)

Abby and her friends didn't feel remorse for their actions. Not once was Abby haunted by what she did. You can't FORCE someone to feel bad for characters that don't deserve sympathy.

Too many conversations that were never had. Ellie and Abby could have come to an understanding, but no. Many things in the writing were flat and destroyed what the first game was. Killing Joel was a mistake, Showing Abby and Her friends having no regrets for what they did, That was a mistake. Dina leaving Ellie at the end, That was a mistake.

I could go On and On about the catastrophe this game was story wise but I can't find the words to express how disappointed I am that Neil let it fall this way. This game should have been torn down and done from scratch story wise. You wasted the actress and actors' time on this flaming pile of garbage. They all did fine but the writing, Piss Poor and it tried to Force a message rather than let the players find out on their own.

As a writer you're not meant to force a message upon your readers or players. It's supposed to be ambiguous so they can come to their own conclusions about these things. You can't force us to feel anything doing it the way you did. This failure deserves to be a reminder that the series has been done wrong.

Neil can say "You don't know Joel and Ellie like I do" All you damn well want because Apparently it isn't true, Plenty of us have a better understanding of their characters than you ever will.

Neil you're a terrible writer and I Hope this failed project serves as the final nail in the coffin for you. The first game was Phenomenal and now it's apparent that you are abandoning good writing for a **** message you want to force on people. Hope this cripples you financially because this failure won't be forgotten by the fans...Ever, They will see your name and forever hate it.

hope doing what you did was worth it, and I hope you get everything you deserve because you failed as a writer. From one writer to another your best option would be to Do it all over again.

Shooting, ambushes, jumping (JUMPING!!!), ropes, ropes, all this! The way glass breaks. Not only that, but also a great attention to detail: snow falls from the trees, the blanket moves when you breathe, the whole world reacts to the player and lives with the player. The fact that the opponents got names and identity - wow! Still, the game really makes you relive the story of Ellie. But to understand it, you need to know how Joel loves Ellie in the first game, and how Ellie loves Joel in the second. Thank You, Naughty Dog. Expand

~Unfortunately the story isn't the best, and its nowhere near the same quality or as engaging as the first game. Often times it feels like you are watching a post-apocalyptic soap opera and that's not what I was waiting for 7 years. I was really hoping they would take a deeper dive into the whole Cordyceps infection and how it all began.

People who have the game a good review use “people die” as an excuse when the subject of Joel’s death comes up and i’d agree, but only if they killed him in a way that made since, instead they ignore everything about joel and kill him. “oh Joel doesn’t trust people so easily? well now he trusts any random person who comes up to him” is definitely what the story writer said when questioned about killing Joel. They could’ve done several things to make Joel’s death better imo but just killing him just for plot while disregarding his character leaves a bad taste. Another thing i didn’t like about the story was the new characters that were added. the only one i liked was Jesse and even still he was pretty meh. they kill the main character and then throw in several new characters that we’re supposed to care about. I just think they could’ve made the new characters better and not kill every single one of them off before we even start to like them. “we’ll kill off these 2 characters that we’ve seen for about 30 minutes and expect the player to be sad about it” Another issue was the sudden switch from playing as Ellie to Abby. Quick question Naughty Dog, why tf are you making us play as the character that killed our favorite killer and then make us go through some of the most boring/predictable stuff. like at this point i already know there’s gonna be an enemy @ the bottom of this slide or at the end of this conveniently placed door/window. they also try and make us feel bad about Abby but you really can’t after yknow SHE KILLS JOEL. Pleaseeeeeeeee Naughty Dog. Please come out and say this was all a joke and the real Pt 2 will be coming out @ the end of the year for the Ps5. cause tbh this doesn’t even seem to be like the game fans of the series needed. it just leaves a bitter taste in everyone’s mouth. This game is simply looking amazing.
That's all, I hope they realize how important the story writing is to us now!!!!
I really didn't enjoy the story also WAY too long playing Abby made me lose the touch with the main character. Terrible ending.

Really, I'm upset with this release. Sorry Naughty Dog, you really do a bad game. Worst history ever, disconnected with the first game and trying to catch "real life and politician discussions" to games... I want to spend my money and play a game to have fun. It's a shame. First, say that we all will love the game, now, the same people said: "it's not a game to everyone". Right, I really don't care if the company wants to do this kind of game, but I felt bamboozled with trailers creating hype and connection with the first beloved game to just deliver this crap.

Unfortunately, I need to agree with another review here that said that "buy pre-order" from Sony could be a real problem. Spend money on a AAA game that I don't want to play. We received "a lie", probably they don't say anything before to avoid the game to "flop" as movies with that kind of "narrative". Nonetheless, if that is the way that Sony wants to follow from now, I will think twice before buy the new PS5 console.

I don't give 0 because the game is really, technically, beautiful. But, you need to check it for yourself... but don't buy the digital version you will not be able to sell it. I think that you need to check for yourself (don't believe in me), but come back here to tell to everyone what you discovered.

Just to finish, I never saw a number of user scores on Metacritic so high on years and a lot of AAA games... "something is wrong", are really gamers voting or people trying to defend their causes?

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
