I admit that graphics and technology are excellent, but developers and directors need to know that this game has a name of two and the sequel is made because of fans.

Well, it was quite a ride.

Firstly, what I like about this game. -Combat mechanics are great. -Graphics is one of the best I have ever seen. Except for the shadows. They look blurred. Guess ps4's gpu can't handle it on the better level. -The main story is controversial, but I personally like it. It reminds me of Game of Thrones when anybody of the beloved characters can be killed

It reminds me of Game of Thrones when anybody of the beloved characters can be killed at any time. I was truly worried and felt sorry for both Ellie and Abby.

    Cons:
-Bori-iii-ing gameplay while not in combat. You just walk and look for supplies. The small number of interesting puzzles. The game could be twice as short and it would be a lot better.
    - Feminist agenda

All in all, I'd give it 7.5/10. I understand why all this anger and hate are taken out on this game, but I don't think that it actually deserves it.

I was so excited when it came out and started playing it as soon as i could , and i completed the game yesterday . Joel & Ellie's bond was what made the first game the best for me - so i understand why many pepole got mad/sad when the story of this wasnt completley about them , But i really do not undersatnd how many of the user's scores are so bad - the story was'nt meant to satisfay you , the gameplay and graphics do and they did btw , the story needs to be intersting THATS IT and it was even if we didnt get the happy ending we wanted .

The ending made me feel sad, empty, confused, wanting some answers. Napadasal ako bigla...

There are scenes prior the end that I wanted everything/everyone to STOP. Just stop. (More like TAMA NA PLS!)

This is such a beautiful game Naughty Dog, LLC.. And probably one of the best games that I have played ever. There, I said it. It's not perfect but this is generally awe-inspiring. Play and "FEEL" it.

    I guess I really need a therapy.

The story is not well made and this is where people are having trouble. Joel's character was beloved by so many people and was killed like John Connor in Terminator Dark Fate. I avoided spoilers and didnt believe them when people were saying that this happens with Joel. The game play and tense moments are amazing! The story is 3 though.

Beautiful yet dark and scary at times. TLOU2 will eject every type of emotion that your body can produce. Much like how Ellie plucks away at the strings on her guitar.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I waited years for this, avoided spoilers and all the controversy surrounding this title as best as I could. My play through took me three weeks to get through because I am an adult with a job and a family, this game had potential to be absolutely Game of the year but lost it due to bad narrative and lack of open world. In 2020 to release a game that feels like its on rails is shocking. Gameplay was especially the same with a jump button. After digging deeper into why everyone has a problem with this game I find its not the game but the developer and Sony’s reaction to people who don’t agree with the treatment of beloved characters. I get that everyone has a different scale of where they see things as a number value. It’s just an ok game, not even close to GOTY. Expand

Whilst TLOU2 is a masterpiece with regards to its gorgeous graphics, incredible attention to detail, beautifully composed music, brutal combat, and the undeniably tragic relationship between Joel and Ellie, it often suffers under the weight of its 2013 predecessor. Its major flaw, and the reason I've not awarded it a 10, is the pacing, and how major events within the story are placed within the narrative. The game often feels bloated, and the urgency sometimes fluctuates as its characters root through draws and lockers for equipment, and without many real environmental puzzles, the game often goes through the motions until the next cutscene.

There are no heroes in TLOU2's bleak and relentlessly grim world, and the game frequently reminds you of this as you hack, dismember, and shoot your way through a stunning post-apocalyptic Seattle over the course of three days. Thankfully, there are reprieves: TLOU2 is scattered with beautiful flashbacks, which take you away from the endless violence and threat, and these moments are when Naughty Dog are able to bring life to its survivors. These flashbacks often tug on the heartstrings without any hint of over-sentimentality too. Aside from its main characters, whilst TLOU had compelling side-characters, aside from Dina, TLOU2 does not. This is not to say they are strictly unlikeable (bar Manny, a by-the-numbers womanizing Latino male stereotype), but are not particularly memorable either. The game lacks a much needed nuance in some of its characterisations, but, to be fair to Naughty Dog, the game's treatment of Joel and Ellie's tumultuous, yet touching relationship remains the soul of the game, even if these moments are relatively fleeting.

If, as a player, you are emotionally invested in its themes of desperation, vengeance, guilt, and forgiveness, and most importantly, willing to play it with an open mind, the last few hours remain as gripping as any game released. Even gamers with no emotional investment in its story and characters should really find the game's visceral combat, its immersive world and breath-taking surroundings enough. It's undeniably a polarising game, but one thats story should be experienced for what it is, and not what it isn't.

    1. Graphics - pleasing to the eye
    2. Gameplay - is interesting and varied. I personally used almost the entire arsenal that I had.
    3. History - is not so simple with that. You will understand this, as the developers planned, only when you start looking at Ellie from a different perspective.
introducing a new game character is very risky, but Naughty Dog were able to show and reveal the character very well! If you look at him not biased!
    4. Character growth - Yes! in contrast to the first part.
So to enjoy the game, you need to play on high difficulty and not be biased to follow the story itself and consider the characters from a different angle.

    1. not mature enough to handle a story/a story detail that wasn't what they wanted,

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The gameplay, like the first game, is entertaining and the player can do basically whatever he wants. Do you want to shoot everybody? Do it. Do you want to stab them from the back and be quiet? Do it. Do you just want to escape from a group of enemies because you ran out of ammo? Do it. You can do what you want, the choice is yours.

    Story: 8/10
This is very personal. Right after the end of the game I sat in my room and I stared at my monitor for nearly an hour because the game left me empty. The story is completely different form the first game; there's no real enemy here (we're just used to see the story from Joel and Ellie's eyes), just a bunch of people trying to get their own justice. The ending is like a punch in the face, it's so wrong and right at the same time. My final score is 8-8,5/10, a very good game unfairly criticized but also not a masterpiece.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For me the Last of Us games are split 50/50 with one half about the mechanics, music, and graphics and the other half being the story. The first game smashed both and had a phenomenal story to which made you feel a proper connection between Joel and Ellie. So coming into the 2nd game with lose connections made it so hard to see Joel die, it was as if I’d lost someone in real life, the 1st game got me that connected. But I respect that decision and actually feel that was the best way to go about. Now the game could of done a few things like make us play as Abby first so we got more of an understanding from her side and maybe made us sympathies more with her. For me playing Abby was long and tenuous, but the one aspect I did like about it was seeing the side of what it’s like to be in faction (W.L.F). The ending I think could of been handled better we all have that connection with Ellie and so when she loses something it feels like we have to. So by going one more time to find Abby meant, not only had she already lost Joel but, she losses Dina and J.J and that last connection with Joel of playing the guitar, and in return she gets nothing back. I feel they could of allowed the ending too of gone two ways in which the player chooses to either stay with Dina and live her life or allow us to go and hunt down Abby and finish once and for all. This would of also of been interesting to see the stats of what people were choosing to stay with Dina or to go and kill Abby.

I’d still recommend buying this game because they do one half really well with the music, graphics and mechanics. They took a risk with the story and I don’t think it has paid of in the way they would of liked, I don’t think they realised how much of a connection we had with Joel and Ellie.

It is still a fun game to play and people complained about Dina and and Ellie’s relationship, Lev being trans-gender and Abby being to buff is just stupid. I liked what they did with Dina and Ellie and Lev it showed that even though the world had gone to **** there’s still that diversity.

Finally the one thing that concerns me now is if there is a 3rd game, if you remember when we first saw that teaser for Last of us 2 people went nut, people at the event where cheering. Now the only way I seeing there being a 3rd game is with Abby and Lev and could you imagine the response of a teaser trailer with those two. The reaction could be so bad there’s boo’s I’d like to hope there isn’t but there is very little if not no connection with Abby and Lev.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I had to rate this game as low as possible despite my great love for the original due mainly to the extremely confused narrative the game told, it was like the writers and developers didn't know what story they wanted to tell. I have played the game through twice already so that I could build up a reasonable opinion of it. The game begins with a brutal display of Joel being tortured (not murdered, tortured) by the new character Abby, while her friends gleefully hold audience to her actions. This visceral image I assume is meant to make us feel connected to Ellie's mission of revenge. The story then follows Ellie slowly taking her revenge, what we see of Abby and her friends on Ellie's journey does not endear us to them, Jordan the first one you encounter seems all to happy to cause Ellie pain, then you encounter Nora who also seems all to happy to mock Ellie about Joel's death. Abby and her friends exude a sense of moral superiority that is entirely undeserved and appear remorseless in their actions. At about the mid point we jump characters and begin playing as Abby, we backtrack to the beginning of Abby's story I assume so that we can understand her motivations. Unfortunately despite understanding Abby's motivations they're a few if any redeemable features about her and her friends. Playing through her story we see that she works for an organisation that seems cruel and sadistic in nature, happily torturing their enemies. Her friends continue to exude that moral superiority, even the ones who seem to have some redeeming feature continue to act as though they are the arbiters of fate and it is their place to pass judgement and hand out sentences of torture (not death). So where Ellie's story plays as one of emotional distress at the course of revenge she has taken, Abby's seems to play as though there is no conflict in anything she has done. This is where my confusion at the story comes from what do the writers want from us, do you want to us to like Abby and her friends more, then perhaps they should have shown more moral conflict or perhaps questioned themselves and their actions more, which Ellie seems to do in her story. The other option would have been to expose us to Abby and her friends seperate to what they did and allow us to like them and care about them then show us what they did. Do they want us to hate Abby and her friends more, make Ellie's quest feel more justified, really that doesn't make sense then Abby's story and playing as her is unnecessary, people hate her initially from the beginning from their first exposure to her. Is making Abby and her friends seem more unlikeable all about making Ellie and the choice she makes at the end of the game more powerful and make her seem like the better person than Abby? So what is the story you want to tell writers and what is the journey you want us to go on? Some of the journal entries in Ellie's story and a few of scenes flashing in Ellie's mind at the conclusion of the game seem to be about Ellie, realising her wanting revenge against Abby is more about Ellie feeling bad for the way her relationship with Joel was before his death and that revenge doesn't give her any closure. If this is the story you wanted to tell again, why did we follow Abby's story at all, if it's about Ellie coming to a realisation why didn't we follow Ellie for the entirety of the game and see her wrestle more with her choices and actually reach that realisation with her. This is something that the sequel is lacking that the original had, you went on a journey and you felt connected and you reached and understood the conclusion that was made in the first this didn't happen at all in a part 2. Are you trying to tell a story of how revenge and violence can take everything away from you, this would make sense given the epilogue where Ellie returns to an empty house alone, and unable to properly play the guitar, loosing an important connection she had to Joel. Again if this was the case then Ellie shouldn't have come to any realisations, really it would have been more poetic for her to kill Abby get her revenge to return home and realise then she has nothing and that her quest took everything from her. The other lacking area this game had is the close relationship between 2 characters. While the first you followed Joel and Ellie for easily 80% of the game, you had interplay and banter, and saw a relationship grow this was lacking in this game. All the partner characters were only with you for a short period, you never spent anywhere near the time with another character as Ellie and Joel spent together in the first game. I think an ongoing partner character to play off of Ellie throughout the missions would made the narrative stronger.
Following this very large negative I will say some positives, visuals are amazing, gameplay is amazing, basically everything in this game but the narrative (the strength of the narrative in the first game is what made it great) is good.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After waiting so long for this game I was thoroughly disappointed. I thought the first one was excellent and the writing in it was great including the unexpected turn the story took at the very end. I didn't read or watch any spoilers or leaks for the sequel before playing it so I went in fresh and hopeful for another great game. Here is what I didn't like about it. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Firstly, I'm not bothered by the gay/trans characters in the story. I didn't feel like those elements were overly pushing an lgbt agenda or pandering to that community. What I thought was terrible was playing at the "antagonist" for nearly half the game. I didn't care about Abby's back story and still don't. I didn't want to play as her at all or know her. Being forced to "know her as a person" didn't make me want to kill her any less. That entire part of the game ruined the experience. It got me to a point where I was just playing to finish it and be done with it, not because I cared what was going to happen next. This game is more about Abby than Ellie. I know many people are upset about killing Joel, but I feel that was a natural progression in the story and honestly a necessary one to flesh out the story of Ellie... Except that the story of Ellie gets lost in playing as her sworn enemy and being engrossed in a war between the psuedo military and the "earther" group (that are also apparently bigots). I didn't care about any of that. I think myself like most people were expecting a game about Ellie (not having to fight her as someone else) and if that's what you wanted, you really didn't get much of it. You got more about Abby and the WLF and honestly I couldn't care less about any of them. And then, the ending, after Ellie sacrifices literally everything including her ability to play guitar, she just let's her sworn enemy sail off into the sunset after the whole "hey let's introduce this other random faction as a plot device" fight. Overall it looked nice, played well, but the writing was a huge fumble for me. Really bummed about it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm just writing this, because of all the negative feedback the game received from the players. I didn't read any reviews, because tbh I didn't care what critics would say. After playing part one I knew I wanted to play the game.
Not to get spoiled or to get influenced I waited until I finished the game to check the bad reviews. Which I did.
Regarding the violence: How can you be so angry regarding the violence in this game? Have you guys seen how people can go nuts, because of toilet paper?! This is a world where death is around every corner, constantly. In my opinion people would be way worse than shown in this game. Of course, it's violent, but I think it's realistic. Very realistic. I just can't get my head around how crazy people went for toilet paper when all the Corona stuff started.
Story/Characters: After the first shot on Joel I thought, that wound can't heal, his leg will never be fine. But then, they killed Joel. They f* killed Joel, that character that I played through the first part, that was ME. And they let Ellie watch. F* you Naughty Dog. And then I fought with Ellie through all the bastards to get my revenge. And then, then Naughty Dog wants me to play Abby? Hell no. When the Abby part started I started rushing through, so I get to the point where I'm Ellie again, until I realized that it's a bigger part, so I started to play "normally" as I would with Ellie. And I started to connect to Abby. I hated that stupid man woman! I hated her so much, but yeah I connected, i started liking her. Yes, that b* killed Joel, she must die. But she grew on me. She had character, emotions, helped people. She was a good person, who killed one of the best characters I ever played. BUT Joel killed her dad. Of course, it was not okay to kill a child, even if you could create a cure. Idk, maybe some of you would have killed a kid for a cure. I guess that is not the point. I understand Joel, of course he saved "his" girl. Who wouldn't act like that. BUT Joel killed Abby's dad, who wouldn't revenge your fathers death? I bet it wouldn't matter to you what he was about to do, but nobody can "just" kill anyone from your family, right?! But that is the point of the game, that's what Naughty Dog did so good. "The others" aren't simply the "bad guys". It's so easy when it's like that. You're good, the others are bad. That's why it was such an emotional game. That's why I'm so torn apart. I hate this game so much (in a good way!). At the end I was not happy at all. I'm thinking so much about Abby and Ellie. Both didn't get a happy end, but at least both can live, and at least that's the good thing I got from the game. This is no "happy end" game. This is a f* "real life" game!

The maps are incredible, each house seems to have a story to tell. The characters are dense, with layers of history to analyze. Artificial intelligence is superb. Depending on the enemy, he chooses the best approach to attack you. The graphics are the best of this generation. The soundtrack is exemplary, in a subtle way it makes the player more or less tense with the part he is playing. This game is heartbreaking and emotionally taxing on so many levels, and at times is even uncomfortable to play, but every single one of those moments exists to further the narrative, and the story would have suffered if any of those moments had been left on the cutting room floor.

So many of the critiques of the game that dwell on “plot holes” and decisions that are “inconsistent with X's character” ignore the fact that, y'know, people change, and years have passed since the end of the first game. These are not the same characters we knew.

The acting in this game is second to none, the music and sound design are great, the visuals are stunning, and, OMG, the rope physics. The amount of care and passion that went into this game is incredibly obvious, and really inspiring.

Don't pay attention to the vitriol—play the game and form your own opinions.

I think The story actually is the strongest part of the game. The game play is a bit repetitive after some hours , the encounters feels similar. Luckily you can approach the battles differently. Sometimes I went gun blazing and some times tried to sneak my way out. That gave it some variation but it felt like the game want you to kill all enemies to be able to search all areas. I guess it might have felt different on a higher difficulty (I played on moderate). The plot really takes you on a emotional rollercoaster. I didn’t mind the change of character when you played Abby. At first I was like I don’t care if she died, but as the story continues you get more attached to her and her retribution. The story of the world is much told by notes found and the scenery. You need to look though the world and find clues about what went down. This I think was particularly good when playing Ellie and the returning with Abby to se what went down. I really enjoyed the game, some tweaking regarding the repetitive gameplay would have been nice but overall the game succeeded with leaving the feeling of wanting more and to experience the world of TLOU again. I would definitive recommend a play through. Expand

Truly a masterwork. Deepens, expands and interrogates the themes of the first game. Challenges the player in so many different ways. A transcendent experience.

Estragaram a historia do jogo.

The way they handled the plot was perfect and no matter what ,the story made sense. The way they made us understand why abby did what she did and actually sympathize with her and just wanted for her to settle and be happy.
Ellie had a great character development at the end in which she doesn't kill abby for killing joel and understood that abby had to do what she had to do. And just like the first one it got me feeling empty when i finished playing it. So thank you naughy dog for this masterpiece. I highly recommend that you reflect back and understand the story rather than just hating it.

Expand

To be honest, I'm not surprised that this game took Joel. After all, in the first part they took his daughter, and then himself. Of course, it’s a pity that this all happened.
Do you need a continuation of this game? I think that yes, because this is clearly not the end of the game as a whole. Because most people are interested in what Ally will do next.

The main problem for me is last of us 2 does not respect the main characters from the last game and on top of that adds new characters which trust me you will not care about (NO SPOILERS) . The reason that i have given 6 is that the game has AAA level of Animations, Graphics and also some very cool Uncharted like set pieces but with the wrong character.

This game is most definitely in my top 3 video games of all time (along with The Witcher 3 and Fallout 4) even if there are two main aspects missing in comparison (but perhaps not applicable given the concept /context of the game ) :
    - not an open world
    - no user based choice making

Regardless of these 2 shortcomings, #TheLastofUsPartII lives up to its first installment and then some. I particularly appreciated the novelty of addressing a revenge story from the perspective of both antagonist - a truly brilliant idea that challenges the player’s preconceptions and gives a whole new dimension to the gaming experience. Furthermore, the quality and depth of the main characters (not just Ellie & Abby) is so poignant that I felt there was even more to be said told them, perhaps in a DLC?

We can only hope that Naughtydog will make a 3rd volume and team up the girls against those Rattlers.

Drops to a 5 because of poor story, and the fact that you’re forced to play as Abby half the game. To me that entire branch felt more of a useless side-quest, as she abandons all her friends and allies for two enemies that saved her. Where my hate really started kicking in was when you HAD to fight Ellie as Abby. To me, Ellie is the main character, and having to fight her and almost kill her with no other options killed all the remaining interest in the game. Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
