    Simply magnificent, the best game I have ever played in my entire life. A must have for ps4 owners and a reason to buy it for those who don't. Gameplay significantly improved compared to the first chapter, with some of the best animations ever seen in a video game. Simply perfect on a technical level. Considering the years of the PS4 hardware, this game is a real miracle! The narrative isSimply magnificent, the best game I have ever played in my entire life. A must have for ps4 owners and a reason to buy it for those who don't. Gameplay significantly improved compared to the first chapter, with some of the best animations ever seen in a video game. Simply perfect on a technical level. Considering the years of the PS4 hardware, this game is a real miracle!     Naught dog i think were trying to show to show what was right and wrong. With all the back and forth revenge it just shows you lose more and what you gain from taking revenge. So in a way i think this is a social experiment too to see how many people in the world think revenge is the right choose but really its a double edge sword.     As the main feature of Last of Us was a story - now this story is very bad.
    When you see how f****st ideology was implemented in scenario, in characters - you see the actual result. You have non-evolving characters, non-interesting gameplay ( gameplay did not evolve from first game), absense of characters motivation in most of cases.
    When you see this game, you just think "It could be a masterpiece. But now... this is politics"    … Expand

    Mucho mejor juego que el primero pero bajo mi punto de vista peor historia... personalmente no me enganchó y eso que la primera parte es mi juego favorito... creo que no se le ha tratado al personaje de Joel todo lo bien que me gustaría... Destruiu a última esperança da humanidade de criar uma vacina para erradicar a pandemia e pensou somente nele mesmo. O jogo proporciona a experiência de viver o outro lado da história, é dito que a história sempre é contada pelo ponto de vista do vencedor porém isso não acontece em TLOU2. Você entra na pele da Abby, assiste seu pai morto por tentar salvar a humanidade, claro que teria que sacrificar a vida da Ellie, mas ela mesma estava disposta a pagar esse preço. Enfim, o jogo é incrivelmente bem construído, com personagens forte, com personalidades fortes. A vingança cega, e isso a naughtydog consegue mostrar bem nesse jogo.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I understand why some people may be upset with what this game presented, or what I saw was that a lot said the pacing was terrible. While I do keep this in mind, this game also gives a lot of things that I just could not have felt more enthroled about. For starters, the soundtrack was absolutley amazing, they tied in the music seamthlessly to the situations in the game and it enhaced the overall feel of the game. Secondley, while I did love Joel as a character in the Last of Us Part 1, this was not his game, and while even though you pay the game honoring him and seeking out vengegance for him, it is more about the development of Ellie as a character, that was the entire point of the game, was to watch someone start off with everything they love and care about, and by the end of the game the one connection she has to left to Joel( guitar playing), is quite literally taken away from her, and you can see this through the somber music , lighting and facial .Lastly, Abby, i thought her story was incredible, and by the end of the game you realize that you were trying to kill someone who just wanted revenge for the exact samething, which of course is why you feel empathy towards her. I for one can not wait for the Last of Us part 3, I think Naughty Dog has set this game up beautifully and I look foward to seeing how the story of Abby amd the story of Ellis continues expressions. I would love to see what eventually happens to Abby, if she ever makes it to the fireflies, and if say someone like Tommy will eventually be a problem for Ellie and might try killing Abby again, who knows , either way, 9/10!… Expand

    Honestly? The game is good. People are trying very hard to tear it apart and give reasons for why it’s trash that no one should like, and I just wanna say dude. It’s ok to not like things. You don’t have to reach this hard. But the music is amazing just like in the first game, the atmosphere is fantastic, this game builds tension like no other game I’ve played, the environments andHonestly? The game is good. Man **** the negativity the only reason why people rate this game bad is 1) they are just hopping on the ban waggin of negativity. 2) not finished the game. 3) bots. 4) the leaks. PS the leaks mean nothing. 5) expecting the game to have the same storyline, same linear, same everything. Hey hate to break it to ya, no game can be exactly the same. Wanna bet that if we got the same linear story people wouldn’t like it. Tlou 2 is open, not just in exploration, but in themes, gay, trans and many other things violence, revenge those things. I’ve finished the game and let me tell you all you haters this game is art. Meaning 50% chance of people liking it and the other 50% not liking it. The Last Of Us Part II doesn’t just tell you that violence is bad, but it shows you the ramifications of it by dealing with the emotional toll as well as the consequences on not just the main character involved, but their loved ones too. At the start of the game, Joel is brutally killed by Abby and we go with Ellie on a mission to avenge him by killing everybody involved. We see it all from Ellie’s POV, hardheartedly seeing Abby as the villain as she just killed the character that we know and love as we have an emotional connection to him after the first game. His death is supposed to make you feel anger. It’s not like you’re supposed to be joyed by it. His death scene left me feeling empty and disgusted, wanting revenge alongside Ellie. However, as the game goes on, we start to see the story from Abby’s POV. We learn that the doctor that you, the player, had to murder at the end of The Last of Us is actually the father of Abby. This is brilliant. Now we see one of the main themes of the story, consequences, and I was immediately on board. Joel is not a good person, at all. He murdered hundreds of Fireflies and took away the possible cure for humanity for his own personal reasons. This is incredibly selfish, even going to the lengths of lying to Ellie about the events as he knows that it isn’t what she would want. Technically, Joel is the villain. Joel had been through so much, so you may think it’s justified. But the point is, Joel isn’t the only person in the world of The Last of Us. Everybody he murders aren’t just mindless NPCs, they are people. People with their own problems who have gone through their own share of pain and loss, people with their own loved ones. Such as the doctor, who had Abby, whom he loved very much and Abby the same. So, understandably, she would feel incredible anger and feel the need for revenge, just the same as Ellie and the player after Joel’s death. There is now a cycle of revenge. Ellie goes on to kill Abby’s friends, and so Abby tries to kill Ellie and her friends. It’s not until Lev talks Abby out of it that the cycle seems to have been “broken”. Abby and Lev put it behind them, however, Ellie cannot and nor can Tommy, which means that the cycle is not broken. Ellie continues her hunt for revenge, thinking it’s still what she needs. Just as she’s about to murder Abby, she sees it’s completely useless. Here I’m going to talk about another core theme of the story: loss. As Ellie is about to kill Abby, she realises that Joel is gone. Completely gone, and killing Abby is not going to change that. She now has Lev, and if Ellie was to kill Abby, Lev would only lose Abby, leaving him in the same situation Ellie was in at the start of the game, which in turn means Ellie is becoming what she set out to kill. It’s no use. Revenge only causes more pain and loss. This cycle is so vicious and nobody wins, and Abby realised this once she found Lev, and found that revenge is a futile thing that does not achieve anything, especially not bringing back her dead friends. She managed to break the cycle herself, and in turn, she found a life worth living, alive with Lev. However, Ellie could not manage this, choosing to still seek revenge. Because of this, she faces the consequences. She loses all of her loved ones. She loses Dina, she loses Jesse and she loses her little boy, JJ. Tommy is the same too. Tommy couldn’t break the cycle, and he loses his wife, Maria. And guess what, Joel is still gone. All of that loss, yet Joel is still dead. It’s all been for nothing. Ellie is now completely alone, which is what she said she was scared of in the first game, all because of revenge. The way forward is not anger, rage or revenge, but acceptance and love.

    You may think this treatment of Joel and Ellie is “disrespectful”, but I disagree. In the first game, you do a lot of bad things as these characters. Yeah, you go through a lot of pain, but so has everybody else, yet they still face the unfavourable consequences. It only makes sense that Joel and Ellie would too. In my opinion, this only helps to build the world of The Last of Us and show that just because Joel and Ellie are the main characters, they aren’t invincible, and the world doesn’t revolve around them. They just happen to be two people who live in the world amongst so many others, which for me, makes it so much more realistic. This is emphasised in the incredible detail in the gameplay of each enemy having names, with other enemies interacting with each other as you stalk them. It makes them feel so much more real and only increased my enjoyability. From a story like this, which is so dark and gritty, I don’t expect a happy ending. You’re not supposed to like Ellie by the end of this story, as she serves as the example of why the cycle of revenge is horrible. You’re not supposed to feel satisfied by it, you’re supposed to feel empty, hurt and sad. That is literally the point.    … Expand

    And everything with the trans kid is just weird edgy torture porn. everything that happened in the first game became useless.
    All in all, its a cashgrab for the company, and its a self insert fantasy/ propaganda for neil.

    I can understand that many players have a problem with the game. If you loved the first part because of the characters only and found the story to be "nice" then you probably won't understand why some characters act the way they do in the second part.

If you are a player who expects a thrilling story, no matter how mercilessly it is told, you will sit on the edge of the chair for 30+ hours and at the end you will keep the game in your head for a long time.

    I hardly ever finish games anymore because of the little time I have, but I took my time with the game. It was worth it!!

    To all other aspects of the game I don't have to say anything. It's simply breathtaking what the developers have done with the hardware. Sound and Accessibility is pioneering.

    I initially gave this game 7/10 but after completing it a 3/10 is all I'm giving. This will be the last Naughty Dog game I'm buying, extremely disappointed in the story and ending. It's hard to play and the whole LGBT vibe kills it for me. Very, very disappointed :(

    I decide to play on (because I have paid for....) but I regret that now. It destroys all of my sympathy and empathy for the characters and that for each of them. It destroys everything.

    @ NaughtyDog: You did'nt trigger anything in my but frustration. The so called story is nothing but an moralizing pathetic drama, a permanently forefinger raised. Believe me, you ruined not only TLOU, you ruined much for the game industries.

    Beside of this there are a lot incomprehensible logical gaps in the game/story that make the experience even worse.

    The role of the "islanders" obese completely open, all said in the game are empty phrases.

The fact that so many negative reviews on this site were from players who didn't first play the game and then see how the story makes you feel - and were angry over a a certain character's demise - writing it off as 'bad writing' is a shame in itself that they may have completely missed the point in what makes a character good or bad and why you as a player sympathise with certain characters in the story. What if I told you that all the characters were baddies in this world? When I finished the game a few days ago, I have been thinking about everything that led up to that point for the past few days too and there is so much to ponder over especially as when you look back at all the characters and you see how divided the current world is, it is easy to see that if there was an outbreak of this magnitude (ahem), everything would indeed fall to ruin and people would become blinded by their own intentions. I think anyone who's written a negative review here will look back at their review after they've actually completed the game and reflect on how wrong they were. I challenge anyone here who has written a negative review to play the game to the end, then see whether or not you think Joel and Ellie are good people or maybe they lived long enough to become the baddies.… Expand

I loved it, the story was great in my opinion, a lot of twists - my wife was asking me for story updates every now and then and she was interested to know what's happening. It's a high quality game, amazing environments, atmosphere, music... I loved the first one and loves this one as well. Looks and sounds fantastic, has a massive range of accessibility options too that you don't see in most games. The acting too is great. Great performance from the cast and solid directing.

    Now the story, I played the first game 5 times (twice on Grounded mode) so I'm in a position to comment on it as someone who loves the story from the first. Spoilers ahead.

    So Joel dies at the hands of a girl whose father he murdered at the end of the first game. His actions regarding Ellie at the end of the first game WERE extremely selfish, but understandable. Aside from that, we learned that he did some bad things in his past between the outbreak and meeting Ellie. He is the anti hero in a series about Ellie. This series was always about Ellie and here she takes the lead role. Does Joel die to early? Arguably. But the controversy surrounding his death is pathetic.

    I like the way the game is split between Ellie and Abby. Playing as Abby opens up a whole new perspective in this world. She's part of a group that can be lethal when required, but also human in comfortable moments. The same as Joel and Ellie's new found group in Jackson.

    Overall it's a great game. The faux outrage over it is downright pathetic. People need to grow up. Buy the game, try your best to ignore the hive mind of social media and make up your own mind. If you don't like the story that's ok, but the game itself is still great to play as the game play is fantastic.    … Expand

One of the best of the current generation. Unfortunately the game is narrative driven and the writing is shoddy at best. The story is structured poorly, the characters are shallow and act in incomprehensible fashion. My idea of a great game is to be put the player in a world to make decisions and see how they play out. In this game I’m put into the world to do what the writers want, without real agency. For a big portion of the game I’m forced to act in a way I don’t want to, and even worse, play a character I don’t want to play with.

    The gameplay itself is very similar to the original, almost no innovation, and it feels both unfair and illogical at times. It is not fair that I’m against a dozen NPC:s with a gun, but each time I can get only 1-2 billets from them. The scarcity is artificial and does not make sense. Playing with the Abby character, a solider for several years, is too similar to playing with Ellie. For some reason she learns about crafting, gun improvements and close combat skills only on the days I’m playing the character, the exact days when Ellie is in town. Unrelated to my rating, I find Sony/Naughty Dog PR and marketing decisions suspicious. Not allowing the reviewers to talk about the whole game and misleading gamers on the content of the game was not cool, almost like a bait-and-switch.     I'd give a 9/10 to the gameplay,because I really enjoyed it in the last of us part 1 at the time and maybe gameplay in part 2 is repetitive to me because I played the first one soo much.
    So yeah, I have nice memories about the first part and I'd give it a 10/10. Story is awesome and graphics, too. Everything is just perfect, I consider it this generation's best game. Overall, it's a 10/10

Game is trying to make you feel compassion for whole Abby storyline. Its a great idea to show two sides of coin. Idea is great, but the way they did it really confuses me. I forced myself to play Abby part for this 10 hour. I let her be eaten by clickers around 80 times. If there was a way to kill her, i did it. I wish the scenario worked for me, but it didnt. I guess it is an evidence of the fact that game is poorly written. When game made me play Abby against Ellie, I simply didnt want to punch Ellie. How can i worry more about a boring grey character like abby more than Joel and Ellie who were main chracters in first game. TLOU2 had a great potential, but they screwed up. I dont knwo who to blame for this. I didnt raise the topic of absolute uninteresting new characters (Mel, Nora, Abby, Owen and other part og their wolf gang). Abundance of pregnancy ( zebra is pregnant - abby's father is good because he saved it, Ellie killed dozens of people, but when she kills Mel who is PREGNANT she gets shocked. Dina is pregnant and that affects Abby's choice. Third point, I dont have anything against LGBTQ and women overall but why mostly all women characters are shown form a good perspective (Abby is a good person at last, Leader of scars is good at last, leader of Jackson Marie is right about revenge etc) while male are shown from a bad side ( Joel is a selfish moron, Tommy cant leave the idea of revenge, leader of Wolves is a coldblood child killer). Fourth point is straight up lying in trailers ( shwoing that joel is alive and that they will have adventues in seattle). I put 0/10, because i think this game is overrated.     The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
