    I cannot believe how low the user score is. I find this game amazing. I breaks new ground on every front. The graphics, music, story, emotional depth, how expressive the characters are and how subtle the facial expressions convey emotions. I have never seen this in a game before. It is just unique. Sure, it will take a bit of emotional maturity to fully appreciate it as the game does notI cannot believe how low the user score is. I find this game amazing. I breaks new ground on every front.     I was worried about story after so many negative user reviews, but there is no reason at all. I did cry again, I did experience all emotions again.

    This game is not easy to play, and is kinda dark and grim, but it does cause strong emotions for the player. I want more masterpieces like this in the gaming world.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After just finishing this game recently, I have to say this game is much better than most of these negative reviews are giving it credit for. People slamming this game for the story or certain characters, either didn't pay attention enough or have some type of bias against the characters in general.

    So in my review I plan to go over the good, the bad, and the ugly.

    The good.

    The story. I'm not sure what people are griping about, but this story was just as engaging as Joel and Ellie's, if not more so. It's a typical revenge story, but the reasons why, which you don't find out about until literally the very end, makes it so much more compelling. In the story there are multiple flash backs that keep building and building as to why Ellie's quest is that important to her. In the final scene really drives the home why Ellie went through all of this in the first place. The fact that she's finally ready to move on and forgive Joel, only for him to die, really show cases how important this all was and why she couldn't let it go. Abby's revenge is literally in the same boat. Her father, the man that was supposed to create the cure, is the doctor we offed in the first game. Her reason for killing Joel is just as enticing is just as important. Both end up essentially get redemption qualities in the end. Abby is forced to view her choices on killing the SCARS and her eventually acceptance that they are people too once she is saved by Lev and Vera. Ellie finally catches up to Abby later in California and after a fight scene between them both, eventually lets her go.

    Graphics. This game looks beautiful, feels beautiful, and just 100% is beautiful. There wasn't a time in this game where I thought, man this place looks like garbage. It truly is a well crafted game.

    Sound/voice acting. Again another area where everything from shot guns blasting heads off, to screams of impending death, to hearing a classic 80's song on a guitar, it all sounds absolutely beautiful. The voice actors are incredible and goes to show why Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker are pretty much top of the line VA's in the business. From singing to their dialogue, they really draw you into the characters. Even with Joel's limited time in the game, Troy still delivers.

    Overall game play. If it isn't broke don't fix it. This game plays exactly like the previous with a few new additions. You get a much more expansive pill system, a few new weapons, and you can jump now. You also get the benefit of two story lines to play through. Stealth remains pretty much the same and loud mode as well. The idea of being openish world is pretty nice as well. Nothing forces you to go into each building, though it's always worth it to do so.

    The Bad.

    Story sequence. Remember how I said the story is good? Well the story layout is horrible. You essentially play 3 days in Seattle, however, you go through all of Ellie's first, and then Abby's. Unless you plan to blitz through this game in 2 days, it is sometimes hard to lose focus on what was happening with Ellie once you start playing Abby. I would have rather seen each day played out from both perspectives in the same day.

    Character development. With the exception of a few characters, most characters don't end up hashing out or seem like an after-thought. I was expecting to meet the cult leader, only to find out she's been dead for some time now. I had expected Issac to have more of a bigger presence, but that was off the mark as well. The team that helps Abby kill Joel, just seem out of place in general. Mel's lack of appearance, along with Nora makes total sense, but I had it in my head that we would have seen Owen/Abby team up once.

    The Ugly.

    The fan base. Sorry to all those that loved the first one and hated the second, but I'm not sure what everyone was expecting. As far as the main points for the negative reviews, literally none of them make any sense. Joel's story was over, this is Ellie's. People hating on inserting gender or how jacked Abby was, again doesn't make any sense. If anything Abby's build makes a ton of sense, as when you walk out of her room for the first time, what's there? A giant bloody gym with workout equipment. Like what do people expect? You would expect your best operatives to be in the best shape.

    The sex scene. So i get it's there to show the tension between Owen and Abby, but it was pretty awkward to just say, here you go viewers, enjoy. It's not to say it doesn't happen in literally every post apocalypse story, but they really shove it into your face.

    Human/infected interaction. Let's be real here, the fact the humans and infected barely seem to cross paths is kind of iffy. I get that each faction has probably cleared most of the areas that they would take, but we only got what? 4 or 5 instances where the infected could be used on the people hunting you. It wasn't enough and what I got, i wanted more.    … Expand

This is life imitating art, quite far from what so many gamers are familiar with. This game requires you to be open-minded to the greatest extent, If you walk in the game with a traditional mindset, you will hate it. Ellie and Joel's story has so much potential, yet it was sacrificed just to introduce another character and transition her as the new main character. Sorry, but I will not play any sequel with Abby as the main chacter.

    The game horrendously failed to make us sympathize with Abby, even though we played as her for 12 freakin hours. Are you kidding me? Neil Druckman's marketig lies caught us off guard. And he's wonder why he's got too many backlash and threats because of this? Of course you would. Imagine how many psychopaths u made by creating this game a source of depression. With literally no tone of happiness. Each scene in the game makes you depressed and angry. Imagine having a rough day, having anxiety or depression, then you turn on the one thing that's made you happy during your worst times: playing video games. You bought your favorite one which is TLOU 2 and come across this shht. Would someone who is mentally unhealthy, act calmly? After u made a mess of the game? You know gamers in asia finished this game only once then sold it to other for half the price. Neil, I don't think it's right that you're having threats, but buddy, you had this coming. You said trust you and you will do right by us? What the sht was that. Unsatisfying, distatesful and a failed attempt to try something new.     The game is incredibly good. I have a lot of hours of joy and have huge respect for ND’s team. I know why some people don’t like it but I think that the plot was great and was done in a brave way. The gameplay, the characters, the story - all of it was 10/10.

There are certain points in the game where it just hits you really hard and you see things you expected the least. I can understand why people would give the game a low rating though - when we see that Abby kills Joel we start hating her and that's all we think about (which is exactly what's supposed to happen).. But the deeper we go into the game, the more we understand Abby's side of the situation. Joel not only took the cure from the whole world, but also killed Abby's father. Still, I don't think Joel deserves to die (at least not like he did), because after all, he saved Ellie and I understand that. His daughter is dead, and Ellie reminds him of her a lot, and it's pretty obvious why he would want to save her. Both Ellie and Abby search for vengeance, and they both hurt until they get what they want. Ellie was having nightmares ever since Joel was killed and she is mad and can't let go of it until she kills Abby. She searches for her, and on the way kills basically all of her friends. For that reason, Abby also wants to kill Ellie. Understandable. So basically what I'm saying is that neither of them are right, nor they are wrong. The game isn't all black and white and you can't really choose a side. You have to see the whole picture to understand the situation. I am really sad though about the fact that Ellie just left Dina and their child, who are literally her family, and just went after her revenge again. Thus, I demand a DLC where Ellie comes to Dina and everything goes back to normal.
    The game kicks you hard, lets you relax, and then kicks you harder. It is a must play but remember to look from different perspectives or else you'll basically hate the second part of the game.    … Expand

So I've beaten this game twice now, and while it's not a "masterpiece" as IGN called it, it's certainly a solid game and one of the best PS4 games out there. The graphics, controls, voice acting, and gameplay are all solid. I enjoyed playing as Ellie, but honestly I enjoyed playing as Abby more. The f*ck tards out there bashing this game because they killed off you know who, or the lesbian part of the story between Ellie and Dina, honestly you're all f*cking morons. My only gripes with the game are parts of the story are poorly written, boring and cheesy, and the gameplay, while fun for the most part, was kind of "been there, done that" as well. 8/10.… Expand

    Just thank you naughty dog for this amazing game.

    I like first game but this one is very poorly written, and seems like graphics looks way better in the first game. I hate all about this game, faces, story, characters etc. is so sad that first game was so popular and we expected this one to be the same. But sadly one of the worst games ever. 4/10

    Seven years ago, I bought an orange from a grocery store. It was so delicious that it fundamentally changed how I looked at the world. I knew that was a once-in-a-lifetime orange - I told everyone who would listen, "Taste this orange and it will change your life! That grocery store is the best grocery store in the world!" I kept going to that grocery store for 7 years. I even bought a remastered version of the orange just to live an inkling of the experience again.

    Then I heard the news - a new orange after 7 years of waiting. In TV commercials - the grocery store advertised a new orange - as delicious as the first one - but even more appealing! I couldn't wait. I was the first in line to get my hands on it.

    Once I got to the store and bought this "new" orange, however, something was "off." As I bit into the "orange" I knew something was wrong. I went to the manager - Nigel - and asked, "why did you give me a lemon instead of an orange?" Nigel said, "Oh, that IS an orange. That's the orange you NEEDED - not the one you thought you were getting." Distraught with confusion. I looked down at the lemon. It was a perfect shape and color for a lemon.... but still not the orange I was hoping for.

    I went to the second store manager - Hazel - and told her my story of the first orange and how Nigel sold me a lemon. Hazel said, "Oh, remember that orange you bought 7 years ago? You actually bought a grapefruit. You don't remember it correctly and it didn't taste the way it was supposed to for you. So eat that lemon and you will remember your original orange experience correctly."

    My last attempt at pleading with both managers to understand my situation began, "You're lemon looks and smells great, but I remember how my orange tasted. I know this new orange might not live up to my expectations.... but I know that a lemon is not an orange." Nigel and Hazel looked at each other and said, "You're opinion of what an orange was - was fundamentally wrong. You're understanding NEEDS to be challenged. You don't understand fruit."

    Sad, angry, and confused. I left the grocery store forever - carrying away a lemon. While thinking about the orange for the last time, I'm left with a sour taste in my mouth.

    The characters from the first game deserved better. The characters in the second game from the first settlement deserved better. Where did the hopefulness go? Changing the perception of the first game to suit your narrative for the second game is cheap and LAZY.

    Moments of the clarity within the game showed me what the true game could have been - that saddens me the most :(

    Forcing sympathy onto characters was distasteful and pathetic.
    Nihilism does not make a story "deep."

    Really enjoyed the game; one thing I would tell people discouraged by controversy is it's worth experiencing yourself. To me, it felt like many people misunderstood the game.

    Don't listen to people who wanted more of the same and cannot emotionally handle a more complex and ambitious game in terms of storytelling.

    Even with the divisive story, the gameplay, the graphics and the mechanics of the game are OUTSTANDING. Easily my favourite game ever.

    I honestly don’t understand the hate this game is getting. I loved it. Though the game does suffer with some pacing issues in my opinion I thought it was beautifully done. The game is loaded with some raw and gut wrenching action. I often found myself yelling at the screen during some unbelievable jaw dropping moments.     The Last of Us is my favorite game of all time. The animations, graphics, and gameplay were all world class when the game came out but it was the memorable musical score, characters, and authentic emotional yet grounded storytelling that made the game world class for me. The events that take place and actions taken by the characters also felt painfully contrived and awkward with none of the payoff the first game gave. By the later parts of the game I just wanted it to be over as it kept dragging on to its unsatisfying end. I’ve heard others say that it’s subverting your expectations and wants to express nihilism, but it all just comes off as incompetent writing. Overall after loving the first game to death Part II just falls so flat.… Expand

Maybe this is being treated differently due to some of the characters, misinterpretations of them, who they are as people and their backgrounds . These aren't shoehorned in, they are part of the world and also the world we live in, to which it seems some ppl cannot accept.

    It's tricky at times to not get carried away and join in with the crowd, sometimes it's best to try experience these things in a vacuum and form your own opinions. Dialogue and conversation are important, but so is making up your own opinion.

    Of course, some of the negative reviews are genuine, but as most of them were added before or just minutes after the game released, which tells you all you need to know.

First of all, it’s not a best game which I ever played, but I love an instrumental quitar music and game have a good story (maybe is not perfect, but after i finnish the game, I was feeling satisfy). For many people story is complely different then they wanted, but at the end, I have felt in love to both main characters (Elie and Abby)

Naughty Dog could have made a ton of money by just making a cookie cutter sequel of Ellie and Joel going to New York to get a MacGuffin but they chose to do something far more exciting and risky. The subject matter is very affecting and once players get over the trauma of playing it and allow the story's broader themes to soak in it willGreat story, great gameplay, great visuals. I didn’t want to believe the leaks since it seemed so unbelievable and I gave Naughty Dog the benefit of the doubt that they wouldn’t go down such a bad path. I was legit shocked to see everything was true. I don’t mind Joel dying. In the right light, a main character death can immortalize them (spike from cowboy bebop). But THIS.....it actually hurt me to watch Joel go out like that. And to make it WORSE, Neil makes me play as Abby, a person I hate now and the story fails to make me care about her or her friends. The only saving grace and the only reason this game doesn’t get a flat 0 is the graphics.… Expand

I avoided any leaks and spoilers before playing the game by the way. Yes, they killed Joel early in the game (I was kinda expecting Dina to be killed off before starting the game). And yes, it was devastating to see him like that in his final moments. But that was the point. You are supposed to hate Abby for what she did to our (not so innocent) Joel. Although, this only worked partly for me, because when Abby travels to Jackson and states that she's looking for a man I thought: that's probably Joel --> probably because of the events at the hospital --> probably someone of her family got killed there --> maybe her dad or brother was one of the medical staff in Ellie's surgery. So, back then I already thought that she probably has viable reasons to do what she did. That's why I had no problem to feel empathy for her in her part of the game. I think that the game stands and falls with the player's ability to try to change their perspective from Ellie's to Abby's. I have to admit that at first I also didn't like her that much. Well, you're not supposed to like her from the get go anyway. She's not my type of character visually (I can't stand muscles, especially on women) and I know it's superficial but this also stands in my way of liking her. But getting to know her during her chapters I learned to like the character she is inside. She's relatable in my opinion and by the end I didn't want Ellie and Abby to continue fighting each other. In my opinion it says something about a game if it's able to change your opinion like that.

    + Cool characters, both old (Ellie, Joel, Tommy, ...) and new ones (Dina, Jesse, Abby, Lev, ...)
    + Amazing acting (both motion capturing and voice acting)
    + Good storyline (not as good as the predecessor but still makes you feel something a lot of times)
    + Outstanding visuals (both environment and characters (including gestures, etc.))
    + A lot of possibilities to interact with the environment (smash windows, lie down (while being able to use your whole arsenal), ...)
    + Good level design (you always have multiple ways to continue the fight)
    + Interaction between enemies (yelled strategies etc.) are believable and make sense
    + Amazing attention to detail (you can leave bloody footprints after walking through a blood puddle for example)
    + Good soundtrack that fits each situation well

    Plenty of open world games have repetitive elements that you can skip. This game isn't open world so there's no avoiding it. The characters are people you don't really care about because the story seems implausible. Great voice acting. Nice game play. Just not worth the time spent on it.

    I didn't get my hopes high, so i wasn't that much hyped for this. But this game did delivered to me. That's adventure was awesome. I was worried about both sides and couldn't decide for myself who really right. Can revenge for a loved one soothe the soul? It's impossible that the story ends like this. It's obvious. Such a mixed feeling aroused in general. I bet 10/10, because I think that the game is made perfectly in every aspect.

    Игра смогла задеть струны моей души. Смогла сыграть неплохую мелодию на моих чувствах. Я переживал за обе стороны и не смог решить для себя, кто же на самом деле прав. Может ли месть за родного человека успокоить душу? Душу, не понимающую, что месть не остановит её страдания, а только породит большее зло про которое страшно подумать? Всё это очень широко и долго можно рассматривать. ЛГБТ-повестка с которой многие бесятся... Её мало, я почти не заметил. Честно, анализируя всю игру, то трудно сказать, что это пропаганда или повестка.
    Отдельное спасибо Густаво за его великолепные саундтреки. Этот человек знает своё дело и помогает почувствовать то, что должны чувствовать игроки в данный момент.
    По итогу, закончил игру с очень тяжёлым грузом на душе. Прям полностью осознавая всё происходящее ранее. Тяжело, очень тяжело принять всё, но нужно. Жду продолжения истории. Надеюсь, оно будет. Нельзя, чтобы так закончилось всё. Это же очевидно. Такое смешанное чувство вызвало в общем. Ставлю 10/10, потому что считаю, что игра сделана отлично. С какой стороны не глянь.    … Expand

    Игра очень хорошая и интересная. Правда был разочарован смертью Джоела. Те кто хейтят игру слабаки и неудачники которые сами в жизни ничего сделать не могут. Мне все равно на пропаганду там чего то. У меня есть свое мнение. А те кто не могут себя котролировать пусть гуляют вальсом. Сюжет пока нравится начал вторую главу. Кто не может себе позволить купить игру, тоже успокойтесь    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
