Sure, far from the perfection, you will find a lot of mistakes, however, a good gameplay that could do better and a story with some argumental holes, does not makes this a bad game. Sadly, the whole community is rating low this games for the first couple hours and the last couple minutes, but everything in the middle matters, a lot.
It, absolutely, deserves to be played.

Great game in general, I think the unpleasant aspect of it was playing as the main "villain" character but you get used to it and even empathize with both sides ot the story. It doesn't deserve all the hate it's getting, c'mon guys. 8/10 all in all, great music by Gustavo Santaolalla, improved game-play and awesome graphics for a console game.

You have to be seriously biased or dishonest to give this game a rating of 0. A rating you would give to games full of bugs, with outdated graphics and a horrible gameplay. TLOU2 is the exact opposite of that. People have forgotten they were playing a game... but of course since half of the people who rated badly this game have only watched it on a stream, that explains a lot...

Go blind, and dont listen to the haters, TLOU2 will be remembered as one of the best and most daring game of its generation.

It’s insane how good this game looks on 7 year old hardware. The game-play is also amazing. ND took the pretty good gameplay from the first, and improved on some of the worst elements. As a last of us fan I have to say I am deeply dissapointed.First of all,the way Joel got picked off in the beginning is just insane to me!I absolutely loved Joel and I couldn't wait to buy the game to see my favourite character again and how he evolved. He evolved...just backwards. The gameplay in general is just not as fun as it used to be.The AI is just more dumb than it was in tlou 1.There was almost nothing new brought to the table except for the big infected at ground zero.Don't even get me started with the ending! One of the worst endings I've ever seen!It just left a sour taste in my mouth. After Abby killed Joel not only do you not get to kill her but they make you play as her for a long time?!??!!Who thought this was a good idea????I've never been more hyped for a new game and for the game to dissapoint me this much is just insane.Save your money and don't buy the game. You're better off without the knowledge of last of us part 2.If you played the last of us 1 just let it stay like that, you will enjoy yourself more that way. This is just such a dissapointment I cannot even describe it.The ending is what made it all worse.Such an unsatisfying end.

The story is great. People who say about plotholes or smth didn't pay much attention during their playthrough, pretty much everything is explained, even things you might not care about. The storytelling sets a new mark for cinematic videogames, I'd even say that not every movie achieved so much in terms of cinema language. The story is told with the rule - show, don't tell. Pretty much every action and character motivation is shown and not told to you verbally, so you have to think and try to understand the characters by paying attention to all the things they say and do, all the flashbacks shown to you etc. Many people weren't prepared for this, especially after the first game which was pretty easy to understand. Actors in this game play their roles flawlessly and every cinema aspect from camera angles to dialogues is made beautifully. Also story structure is very nonstandard not only for a videogame but for a movie too, but I won't spoil anything, you should play the game for yourself. I give it 10 out 10 because it was one of the most unique experiences I've had in videogames. I tried to not spoil anything so you would get the whole experience for yourself because this game deserves it.

The gameplay didn't really improve that much and the mechanics of some things were awful. The graphics and the musical score is the only thing that stands tall at the end of the day. For context, I had played part 1 3-4 times prior, and did my first ever playthrough on Survivor (fresh, not NG+) before immediately starting Part 2. So it was very fresh in my mind and that influenced my take on this game.

    ***Visuals: 10/10
It's Naughty Dog, did you expect anything less?

    ***Gameplay: 9.5/10
I just replayed the first game prior to starting this, and I'd give that an 8.5 on gameplay for comparison. For reference, I played Part 1 fresh (not NG+) on Survivor, and started Part 2 on Survivor but switched down to Hard about 25% of the way through. Very few complaints. In particular, stealth was perfection. Compared to the painstaking sneaking required in part 1 Survivor, there were so many more options with crafting arrows and pistol silencers. I loved the addition of dogs to force you to move, and I loved the additions of grass and prone movement to expand your options. The level of tension I got in some sections on Survivor was just excellent

    ***Story: 7.5/10
I thought Ellie's part of the story was damn near flawless. Joel getting killed by vengeful Fireflies sucked but was very believable. No way he could've gotten away with that massacre without anyone hunting him down. Perfect motivation for Ellie's quest for vengeance and letting them show the cost it has to her as a person. Right down to Ellie leaving Dina to hunt down Abby in Santa Barbara. I wanted so much for Ellie to stay and have a happy ending, but ND made me buy it.

I appreciate what they were trying to do with Abby. Her motivations for killing Joel were certainly believable, and I get that they wanted to show her as a fellow human with feelings and stuff to make us question Ellie's blind rage. But her story was too long, I kept waiting for the flashback to be over until realizing that I was going to have to play through the past 3 days her. Then having us control her as she BEAT ELLIE AND DINA TO NEAR DEATH? That was not cool at all and I really could have done without it.

They could have humanized Abby with so much less time, and it felt like it was driven by game design choices of not wanting to develop her combat less than Ellie's. If we'd played as Ellie finding her on that beach barely clinging on to life, would it have been any less impactful when Ellie threatened Lev and still tried to fight Abby? I don't think so at all. What Ellie did there was wrong, and we didn't need to know really anything about Abby as a person to realize it. She could be an irredeemably evil villain from our perspective, and we'd know it was bad for Ellie to go through with it.

Following from that, it makes the key part of the "Abby's not a completely bad person" plot sort of fall flat. Yara and Lev felt very forced in. I am extremely sympathetic to the social message behind that plot, but it felt like ND were trying to do too much narratively here. It was a very cliche take on a character questioning their own identity, parents/community rejecting them for it, and didn't really add anything to that conversation that hasn't been done much better in other fiction.

The missing piece, in my opinion, is that we never really see Abby internally reckon with what she's done and whether it was wrong for her to kill Joel. She gets consequences, sure. Ellie and Tommy kill basically all of her friends who were involved in killing Joel. But she never has to reckon with WHY she faced those consequences. She never has to understand Joel's motivations for saving Ellie, or put herself in his shoes and ask whether she'd have done the same thing. She has quite the parallel when she has to kill her former comrades to save Lev, but we never see her think about it. If ND is going to give her so much time, give her a redemption and forgiveness arc. Have her beg Ellie for forgiveness, and make Ellie reckon with the choice of whether to grant it. THIS would've humanized her and given us much more time to play as Ellie and explore her psyche. We never really got to see Ellie reckon with the fact that her quest for vengeance cost her friend his life and left Tommy with a severe injury or disability. Less Abby, more of that, and the story would've been perfect.

The story telling is elementary at best, at no point was I stricken with awe and wondering how someone came up with this plot. Shock value for the sake of shock value is meaningless, they changed way too many key plot points and designs for this to even be considered the same game with the same characters. The only scene I felt like I was playing The Last of Us was in the Museum flashback. They also destroyed the best PlayStation exclusive and I could see this actively damaging the sales for the PS5. If you were expecting another Last of Us game with Joel and Ellie actually behaving like themselves instead of morphing into completely different people, this is flat out not it.

The graphics in certain parts and the feel of tension from the engagements with enemies are the only reasons I’m giving this a 3 instead of a 0.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Naughty Dog for me is always one of the top game creators/developers out there. I've loved every game they have created up until The Last of Us 2.

I wanted to like it, I knew that there was no way Joel would survive this game (I just didn't know at whose hands... or club... he would be ended). But I played because I truly enjoyed the dynamic that Ellie and Joel had together. But this game is not about Ellie and Joel; its about Ellie, her new group of friends, and an 'antagonist' searching for vengeance.

At the end of this day this game is a revenge story (I LOVE revenge stories). But as is typical in revenge, you don't come out the other side the same. This game saw the mutual destruction of both parties, both virtually alone and crippled in the end.

My issues are with the characters in this story. You have Ellie who is uneven throughout. She will kill tens of hundreds of people without emotion but then after one or two certain deaths she loses control.... then proceeds to kill a few hundred more. Some lives had more meaning than others of course, so its not completely nonsensical, but it was a bit confusing.

New character's are continually introduced and its as if the writers are screaming at the top of their lungs "CARE ABOUT THIS CHARACTER!" but, I just didn't. It took an entire game of the original for me to care about either Ellie or Joel, I'm not just simply going to care about a random guy who dated Ellie's girlfriend and shared some funny moments with us (sorry Jesse).

Now the obvious issue for me was playing as Abby for half the game. I get the idea, the thought is that you want to understand the motivations of the 'antagonist' (I'm using quotations because the antagonist truly depends on your point of view in this game). The problem is, I understood the motivations the second they were looking for Joel, you know the motivation is revenge for friends/family. This again ties back to the writers wanting you to care about Abby and I just didn't. She in the matter of about 45 mins crushed the skull of the character I'd enjoyed so much from the original (and being hopeful to see the conclusion of his story for years).

I want to just take minute to say it wasn't all bad... The graphics are some of the best I've ever seen, visually the game is stunning on my PS4 Pro/4K television. The gameplay is just as fun as its predecessor with some new fun twists and puzzles which you know Naughty Dog will excel at, and the emotions the game makes you feel is truly unique. There are moments you almost need to quit playing because its so heavy and weighs on you.

Here are my final thoughts as I see the game...

The thought of doing a sequel was probably overly ambitious. They should have had you play as Abby for basically the entire game. I think my disappointment is because I was expecting this to be all about Ellie and Joel, this needed to not sell the player on being Ellie or Joel at all. I think having Abby be the protagonist who is seeking vengeance for her father, being hunted by Ellie across the country was a better choice. Then at the end, they could have switched back to Ellie and even kept their ending. There are too many fluff characters, so many I could hardly keep track. I think Dina, Owen, & Mel should have been the focus as far as side characters go.

I want to just mention that I applaud Naughty Dog for making a game with strong female characters, there aren't nearly enough of those out there. I'm not in the group of people who disliked this game for other motivations.

I had high expectations for Naughty Dog with TLOU2, expectations they have earned with some fantastic games. This one for me missed the mark. I know many people still enjoyed this game and that's the beauty of art. I look forward to the next Naughty Dog adventure.

Visually incredible, attention to detail is incredible, level design has improved drastically since TLOU1. I know lots of people complain about the story, but in my opinion I don’t agree with almost all of the complaints. Joel had to die in this game. People complaining about this overlook the events of the first game. It cannot be simplified down to one line, “revenge bad”. The game takes us through a story of complex characters changing as we go, and to see them grow and evolve as well as the subtle details really make the story come to life. It is a truly human story and I loved all of it, BECAUSE of us having to play as the villain. The game did something bold, and it is very complex. In my opinion, that’s what makes the game great. What a great and huge game. The only cons for me were flashbacks, an order of some events, problems with pacing, and some weak characters. But when you the game it feels damn good. No regrets. Took me almost 42 hours on survival difficulty which is the best choice to play this game. I don’t know how else you’re gonna feel all the pain and fear of you have 20 billets for every single gun.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The perfect sequel to a work that is already "complete" in itself, almost untouchable but of which, after all, we all wanted a sequel.
The whole story seems to have revenge as the protagonist, to go deeper and deeper and making us understand how much the path to get there makes you lose everything you care about. Abby loses all her friends, even before Ellie kills all of them, because this journey of hers towards the murder of Joel will totally change her. Ellie herself, in seeking revenge for Joel changes, while the game-play makes us feel her lightness and agility, her work is very similar to that of the strongest and most ruthless Joel, who, however, does not belong to her. In fact, we see her lose everything she cares about, her partner Dina, her bond with Joel given by the guitar, her mother's knife and she’s losing herself. Several times we would like to end the adventure, go back to Jackson and see her in peace and happy but we must continue with the adventure.
We will eventually reach the confrontation with Abby, with Ellie who can finally make her revenge, which, however, none of us craved anymore. While Ellie is slowly killing a weak Abby, but, after all this adventure, she understands that what made her feel bad wasn’t his death as such, but the fact that she never managed to forgive him after what happened at the St Mary's Hospital. It is precisely at that moment that she manages to forgive him, let him pass, and let Abby live.
Ellie is still left alone, she has lost everything, and it is the thing she most feared in the world, but more importantly, she hasn’t lost herself. At the end, we’ll see her walking alone, towards part 3.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a masterpiece, never before has a video game had me so torn between different emotions.

I’m sad that Joel was killed off and the way he was, but he was no hero himself and the narrative of the story is how violence breeds more violence. The fights between Ellie and Abby had me killed a couple of times just because of my hesitation to not wanting to harm either of them. I for one love the fact a game can do this to me.

The gameplay is much the same with several slight improvements but I like the game mechanics anyway as they suit a survival horror.

It seems you will either love or hate this game due to the nature of Joel’s death and playing as Abby but you will just have to try it for yourself.

In the words of Gandhi “An eye for an eye will make the world blind”. I think the story plays along this narrative beautifully and you must play the game to the end to appreciate.

    Can’t wait for Part III

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I know why people are upset with this game. The beginning of the game seemed alright until Joel’s death. That’s when I wanted to stop playing. It was a bad way for him to die and his character was written wrong there’s no disagreeing on that. But after that Ellie’s story gets really good and she has become one of my favourite game characters. She was written well. Abby’s story went downhill a little as it wasn’t bad but just wasn’t as Interesting as Ellie’s and I think one of the reasons for this is because we hate Abby. The game tries to make you like and tries to show she is changing as a person but i still **** hated her. Another bad part I thought was when you have to fight Ellie as Abby just so Abby can win. To be honest I think tlou2 is a really good game and all comes down to Joel’s song where he says “if I ever were to lose you, I’d lose myself”. That’s exactly what happened to Ellie in my opinion which is why she probably let Abby go as she knew Joel was right with what he said and didn’t think she’d be any better than Abby getting revenge but she realised it was too late when she got back home as Dina left. Ellie also said her fear was ending up alone which is exactly what happened. The games just a dark story about how revenge isn’t always right even if you hate Abby. It took risks and I respect. Good game but not as good as the first game. Expand

Для нас The last of us - это история Джоэла и Элли! Expand

Rating: M for Blood, Gore, Drugs, Brutal Sequences of Killing, Decapitation, and Extreme Violence with Vulgar Language and taking the Lord in vain and sexual content featuring some nudity.

“Revenge is a dish best served cold!”

The thing about revenge is that it slowly strips away your humanity. A plot of a game based on revenge is a hard road to follow, especially when the game FORCES you to play as Abby, a character that savagely murders a central character to the game that in turn compels Ellie venture on a revenge mission.

Four years after their perilous trek across the treacherous post-pandemic United States, Ellie and Joel have returned back to Jackson, Wyoming, where for all intent and purpose, live in a safe compound. However in the world of the Last of Us, safety is an illusion that can easily reveal itself, as while out on patrol with her girlfriend Dina, Ellie’s world is shattered to pieces and she vows revenge on each of the perpetrators.

Abby Anderson is a playable character from Seattle Washington that treks across the dangerous journey to Jackson where they hash out their plan for revenge. Once she finds the person she stops at nothing to destroy everything sacred to Ellie.

Ellie leaves the safety of Jackson and travels to Seattle Washington where she has to deal with infected, the Washington Liberation Front (WLF is also known as “Wolves”), and the Seraphites, called Scars by the WLF.

The Wolves are a strong paramilitary group that in the early days of the outbreak overwhelmed the military and scored a foothold in Seattle. They are well armed and their structure enables them to control most of the area around Seattle where they maintain control and patrol most of the area with their way of justice.

The other faction is a cult-like group calling themselves the Seraphites. They live in trees and abandoned basements or up in the skies. Most of them use arrows, spikes, knives, and other homemade weapons. Only the leaders have guns but most of the firepower is with their modest weapons and stealthy ways. Their way to communicate is via whistling and the first time you hear it sounds kind of ominous and creepy.

Ellie arrives in Seattle and finds herself in the midst of a turf war between the Wolves and the Scars. She must defend herself and survive between the hordes of infected, the Wolves, and the Scars.

The infected have also evolved, as now you have a new infected known as Shambler and the hulking menacing Bloater infused with other forms of the infected identified as the Rat King.

At the risk of spoilers, the game is broken into three days in Seattle period where you first play as Ellie, and then you play in the same three days from Abby’s perspective. Naughty Dog is ramming Abby down our throat trying very hard for the player to feel sympathetic for her, almost as an explanation for her actions in the very first section of the game.

We can emphasize with Ellie, we have an emotional connection with her and Joel, but in my playtime with Abby, I could care less. Additionally, the Ellie of this game isn’t that likable either. She can be cold and ruthless and lacks emotion. The game wants us to form an emotional connection with her based on everything she’s been through, however, she is a shell of the sweet and feisty Ellie that we loved in the first game.

I do not care for the gay agenda that Naughty Dogs wants ram down our throats. If the relationship between her and Dina is relevant to the story is warranted then that is one thing, but it seems to me that this wasn't warranted in the game.

The ending of this game also makes you wonder why we played this game. We went alone on this killing spree for hours only for the game leave us on an ending that made regret putting the twenty to twenty-five hours into an emotional rollercoaster of feelings that at the end made no sense.

I cannot give this game a zero but by the same token, I cannot give a ten. Originally after giving it an eight, I must reduce my score to a seven based on other factors of playing a new game plus.

If you are not willing to come out of your comfort zone and widen your vision on everything and every character you will hate the game for sure.
The story made sense. We don't like to see that our heroes have flaws or to sympathize with our enemies. But in the end the world is not black and white.

Gameplay and graphics are solid, sadly I played it for the story and it was a total dumpster fire.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TLOU2 is not different from part 1 in a good way. The story got me emotionally hooked and I really cared about the characters. Gameplay is also almost identical. If you liked it before, you won’t be disappointed.

All the hate this game received is 100% not deserved. If seeing a moderately muscular woman or a lesbian or a non-cisgender person hurts your fragile masculinity this much, you need to calm down an re-evaluate your life. The story revolves around revenge, anger and being able to let go the past. It is very far from LGBT fanservice as some haters trying to paint it.

The game is incredible, from the settings to the characters, the only problem is the order of events, the story is sad and implicit, leading to complex morality. (value your loved ones, because you do not know when they are no longer)
The game is a masterpiece that does not convey the same message as the first game, but rather conveys the consequences of the acts carried out in tlou 1.

Great game. I wasn’t happy with all the plot points but I can understand and appreciate why some decisions were made. Emotional rollercoaster from start to end. Gripping game. Loved it!

This is a mind blowing game for the full 28 hours that I invested. Having played the Last of Us part I 4 years ago I was really looking forward to this game and Naughty Dog delivered massively.

Again the storyline was sublime, it was a rollercoaster ride from love to revenge and from self hatred towards pity for your opponents. How this game makes you as a player part of the story is

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. How many years have I waited for this, only to find this horrible story? They destroyed everything they created in the first game and the worst part is that even with all this, Ellie didn't complete her revenge, she killed hundreds to get to Abby but still didn't get her revenge? After killing so many you don't want to kill her? rly devs? My only consolation is that in the future there is the possibility of one more game ... "the last of us 3", Ellie wakes up in the middle of the night and everything that happens in this game was a horrible dream, so she goes to Joel's house and forgives him ... and A GOOD STORY begins...
My disappointment is immeasurable and the history of my favorite game is ruined.
    Shame on you devs :(

Many of the reviews you are seeing here are posted in bad faith by people who haven't actually played/finished the game and are reacting to a bullet point list of the events. But a list of events is not a story, and I believe if many of these reviewers experienced the story, they would feel differently. It is a difficult game. It takes place in a brutal world and things happen that you may not want to happen. The gameplay is exceptional and tense, and the graphics are as close to photo-real as this generation will get. I was completely riveted by the game from beginning to end, and look forward to one day playing it again. I took a point off because, after a certain point, the misery of it all is laid on a bit thick and it can be a bit of a struggle to carry on. I feel like they went a little too far on making the point they want to make, but that's subjective and you may find you don't have a problem with it. I would recommend playing the game, even if you read the leaks and we're angered by them. Expand

The graphics of the woods in Jackson and the detail added in the making of the Seattle map was beautiful. The game had a better gameplay and fighting system than the previous game. The addition of new type of fungus zombies added a twist to the game and the puzzles were harder this game than the previous one, allowing the player to have a harder challenge to play. The game was beautiful because it allowed the different perspectives happening during the events of the last of us part 1 and part 2. The story may have not been as great as the first game, but it was definitely close to it. I think it was a wonderful game, but a lot of people were really fast to talk trash about the game without even playing it. I definitely recommend this game to everyone, even if they don’t own a PS4. The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
