Definitely one of the best game I have ever experienced since a couple of years. The story is unbelievably well written and heart-wrenching. The gameplay is extremely satisfying and challenging. The graphics are the best I’ve seen on a PlayStation console. Every aspect of the game was perfected to the very best.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As much as I would like to give this game a zero, I'm going to be objective about this. FYI, I played the game to completion - Platinumed it even, so I have every right to criticize it as I've seen everything it has to offer. In short, this game is a far cry from the masterpiece that is its predecessor. They tear away everything you loved about the first game and shove some new, twisted narrative in your face that just doesn't resonate. The story is just waaaaay too far off base from the first one and here's why:
    1. They absolutely DISGRACE the characters. Joel is just treated like a **** and killed within the first two hours. The guy you literally spend the majority of the game playing as in TLOU1. This is a huge mistake because he should've lasted at least half-way through the game, as it's the moments between him and Ellie that really make TLOU. I was expecting him to die, but not like that. He deserved a somber, heroic death. Probably protecting Ellie or something like that — but if only his death made logical sense! You’re telling me by pure chance he finds Abby, and then he and Tommy walk into a room full of strangers, unarmed, and proceed to disclose their real names and where they’re from? Who does that?! Especially when you consider how on edge Joel was in the first game - you can’t trust anyone in this world. There’s also Jessie who we all got to like then he was just shot in the face out of nowhere, and before we could internalize it - BOOM flashback. We never really get to go back and see the characters remorse about Jesse. I feel he was only included as a catalyst for the story in getting Dina pregnant.
    2. The latter half of the game sucks. The story comes to a screeching halt when Abby finds Ellie and the gang, then you have to wait like 8-10 **** hours to continue the present day story. What's most infuriating is most of Abby's segment is irrelevant. Who cares about Yara and Lev? Seriously? They just show up out of nowhere and we're forced to start liking them. And the stupid romance with Owen, Jesus. It feels really forced how much they’e trying to get you to empathize with these new characters when all you want is to see more of Joel and Ellie. It doesn’t help when you remember that these are the ones that brutally murdered your favorite character. Joel saved Abby's life and she still proceeded to torture him like that never happened. She's irredeemable and empathizing with her is a very hard pill to swallow.
    3. The ending is blasphemy. You're telling me Ellie comes all this way, and instead of finishing things, she lets Joel's murderer go? **** Heresy! I played through this entire game with the intention of avenging Joel. Joel would’ve burned down the world for Ellie had she been the one who died, and Ellie wouldn’t kill the person who caused her so much suffering? The ending is so dissatisfying and ultimately teaches you nothing. It renders the entire journey pointless.
If I had to rate the story alone, I'd give it a 3/10. I absolutely hated it.
It's not all bad though. Here's what I loved about the game (this is where most of the points come from):
The flashback scenes with Joel and Ellie are fantastic, and they really show what kind of potential this game had if they just continued focusing on these two. As triggered as I was with Joel's death, I was buying into the story and the "revenge quest," but man they broke my confinement when they started beating me to death with how prevalent Abby was. The graphics and gameplay are truly exceptional. This is without a doubt the best looking game on PS4 and the gameplay is much more refined from the first game. It's by no means revolutionary, it's enhanced but more of the same. That's perfectly fine though, because I loved the combat from the first game and wasn't expecting them to change it.
Ultimately, TLOU2 is just a huge disappointment. This game had so much potential if they just stuck to what this series is actually about - Joel and Ellie. It's most infuriating when you recall that the marketing was all manipulated to get you to believe Joel and Ellie would be the center of the story when that couldn't be farther from the truth. If I'm being honest, this felt more like Abby's game than Ellie's, which is ridiculous when you consider that this was being sold as Ellie's game. They even lied two years ago when they said that she would be the only playable character.
To conclude, I would highly advise against buying this game new. Do not support Sony financially, because that just means you're happy with what they did. I recommend either just watching the cinematics online or buying it used (which is what I did because I refuse to support this). There are things to enjoy, but it's not even close to be considered a good game. It's painfully mediocre which is unacceptable when you realize that this is a sequel to one of the most heralded games of all time. I can't believe we waited seven years for this.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was a phenomenal follow-up to its outstanding predecessor. Don’t believe all the hate and controversy surrounding it. To receive the full effect of the story you have to play through the entire thing for yourself. The people who hate Abby and are complaining about playing as her have either not played the game enough or at all and/or are too tunnel-visioned to accept it. The game shows you Abby’s motivations for killing Joel, and even though I’m not happy he’s dead, I totally understand it. Abby wanted to take revenge on her father’s killer just as Ellie is doing. Abby and Ellie actually have more in common than meets the eye. They both have extremely similar motives. In contrast with most people, I actually grew to like Abby just as much as Ellie. They show that she’s not just a brute-like monster that killed one of the most beloved video game characters of all time. They give her depth and characterize and in doing so, bring to life a new beloved character. They also show how she grows as person and sets aside the ruthless killer she once was. People are complaining because they can’t and won’t understand the complex story Naughty Dog is trying to tell. They are showing that Joel and Ellie are villains from one perspective, while they are seen as heroes from another. The same goes for Abby. No one is totally innocent, and no one is entirely a villain. Things are not merely black and white like you see in many games. I honestly thought the story was much more complex and interesting than the first one. You are introduced to many more perspectives and motivations and characters who are as complex as they are interesting. Of course the gameplay and graphics were amazing as well (though that shouldn’t have to be said about a Naughty Dog game). Nothing huge has changed gameplay-wise from the first game, they’ve changed it up enough to feel fresh like the addition of the jump button. Overall, this is a game that has to be played from start to finish to get the full effect. Do NOT listen to hate from the internet. This game MUST be played start to finish period. If you’re willing to give it a chance then you’ll see Naughty Dog has yet again created something very special in The Last of Us Part II. Expand

I give this game a 5 since the graphics are amazing and I like what they did with ellie and gave her a family but what they did to Joel was not good I wouldn't mind if he died later in the game because than we could at least see ellie and Joel's relationship grow ,also I think they should have made it shorter by not playing as abby and if we were to play as abby it would be cool to see at the end a plot twist and how she kills joel . And if they were to do the story normally they should of ended it at the farm but no they wanted ellie to go on a pointless journey and realise that what she was doing is wrong . Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is absolutely perfect, from the beginning to the ending.
When Joel died I felt something I've never felt, or hardly ever, while playing a videogame: I was crying, my legs were shaking and my voice was broken, I felt angry, sad and I just couldn't believe that Joel was dead, in fact the first thing I've sad after that was:"It's not true, Joel's not dead, he's in very bad shape and all that stuff but he'll be fine in some time. They didn't kill Joel".
Then I saw the tombstone with his name on it and I cried even more, then I rried to cheer me up saying that he would be with Sarah now, but that hurted a lot and it wasn't helpful.
So I kept playing the game with one desire: avenge Joel's death and kill Abby.
Then I arrived at the point when you start to play as Abby, at the beginning I was really pissed off, but during that 8/9 hours while playing as Abby I realised why she has done that and the fact that she kinda regret what she has done because, in the end, she had lost everything, even her closest friend and I started to emphatize with her, in fact when Abby and Ellie fought for the first time I started to think that I'd preferred the Abby's death 'cause in the end during the first game I really loved both Joel and Ellie, so I was still in love, if I can say so, with her.
Then the fight ended and neither of them died and I was kinda happy but then the epilogue arrived and they fought for the second time and, for the second time in a row, no one has won but because Ellie understand, thanks to an old memory of Joel, that, if she had killed Abby, she would have lost her humanity, and that was memory was painful but awesome at the same time.
I might have not explained it well but it felt like that was the perfect endng because, thanks to the last memory of Joel and Ellie, you understand that Ellie, at the beginning at least, wanted to kill Abby to avenge Joel but then you realise that the only person she was hating and blaming was herself 'cause she was unable to forgive Joel for what he has done at the Fireflies' Saint Mary's Hospital (the end of The Last of Us) before his own death and that was so powerful that I cried again, it was **** perfect.
Also I wanted to spend a few word about the techniical assets: the graphic's excellent, the gameplay is a simply evolution of the first game gameplay with some new features and the all options that Naught Dog has put into the game to help the people who have some disabilities or wanna play the game with some help are very useful, so well done Naughty Dog.
Also what has happened with the review bombing it's very sad because if you look at this title objectively, this game deserves, at least, 7 even if you don't like the story 'cause the gameplay, the animations, the all accessibility options and the graphics are all **** amazing, and this game is the top of of the generation (and please don't say things like:"Cyberpunk 2077 will look amazing, and even better than TLOUPART2" because it's not true, and you know it. It'll look amazing and we all know that, but it's an free-roaming open world RPG so it can't have as many details as The Last of Us Part II has, it's impossible for this generationat least, we'll see what's gonna happen with the Next Gen in the next few months).

Naughty Dog got the guts to do that in such an amazing way, felt like a slap to the face. This is a game about hate, how it leads to nothing, and its never ending cycle.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have, figuratively, taken to pen on the furores surrounding the controversial subject matters within an unpopular storyline in ‘Last of Us 2’. This will be my first review, such as is my apathetic nature but I am compelled to because I recognise the detrimental impact the fallout will have on this game and potentially curtails the advent of evolutionary gaming that ‘Last of Us 2’ has paved.

It was with consternation that some reviews across all boards were scathing and the social media awash with negative commentaries over the sequel to ‘Last of Us’ leading me to try and provide an alternative viewpoint. After a 34 hours play though to the completion of game, I can testify that it is an emotionally tough game that intellectually challenges you of the folly these paths our ‘heroines’, Ellie and Abby have embarked on. I use the term ‘heroines’ very loosely, because they are most certainly not that. What they are as human beings; flawed and brutalised by the reality of the world they exist in and striving to find a sense of purpose to their life and to hide their regrets behind a thin gossamer of revenge. You will be frustrated with Ellie as she progresses with single minded determination and her unwillingness to look beyond her failure to reconcile with Joel. You will dislike Abby immensely from the onset as she is institutionalised emotionally with a distinct lack of empathy, trapped in a strict lifestyle regimen of her making.

The game is obviously not about Joel and Ellie, but about the consequences and ramifications of their actions and how they contributed to this game. It should go without saying that it can be hard to reconcile these emotive contexts but I believe that this is the whole point of the game. You are forced to carry out unpleasant actions in order to progress, violence is prevalent everywhere but they are not stylised nor sanitised. They are brutal and graphic leaving very little in the way of cathartic release you would get from mowing down a hoard of zombies with a .50 cal machine gun in a mainstream game. Perhaps this is an indicative of the pointless nature of vengeance where violence begets violence and how people can lose their ‘humanity’ as they dehumanise each other in the name of causes they adhere to. This is where the writing of the game starts to shine, I am not a writer nor am I a critic analysing and breaking down the storyline in minutiae. Owing to my deafness, I excel at body language and I have got to say this, that while the body language and the nuances of expressions and characteristics of the characters in the game have a long way to go, they are the best I’ve seen and I was able to develop connections from playing Ellie and Abby on a deeper level than I have with any other characters in other games. I believe the objective of this game is to demonstrate just how easy it is to lose yourself through the cyclical acts of violence based on the beliefs and values of what fraction you are in, as a part of a faction against another. This mirrors uncomfortably to present day political climate. What I really appreciated towards the climax of this game is how I empathised with Abby at the beach while I despaired of Ellie when she doggedly insisted on persisting on the destructive course.

It does not matter if writing of the storyline is somehow incomplete or insufficient, what matters is that a connection is made to the said characters and there they can be fleshed out in your mind with gaps filled in to make sense of the complex relationships. At the closing scene, Ellie leaves the farmhouse a strong and resilient woman and the life she is leaving in the farmhouse is just simply a chapter that is closed. Joel still lives on in her.

Now to address the elephant in the room, Ellie’s sexuality or her sexual preferences… I simply don’t care. As for Lev, Abby will do him right, gender is as meaningless to me as race or creed and sexual orientation. This is why I am concerned about ramifications of outcry over ‘Last of Us 2’. I can see that it is an incredibly difficult and complex game in terms of incorporating controversial agendas, introducing moral dilemmas and highlighting humanitarian issues to game playing (and re-playability). I really would like to see Naughty Dog push the boundary further in terms of game evolution to be a valid platform for full intellectual and emotive interactivity and see ‘Last of Us 2’ despite it’s shortcomings lauded for daring to force gamers to question their actions.

The brutality is exactly what I'd expect the human race to crumble into from a world ending event. It's an emotional roller coaster. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've played the first game over 30ish times since it's release and only and couple weeks before the second part came out I went back to the game to get every single trophy available for it. I went through every nook and cranny in the first game, and I'm about to do that for the second. I've watched behind the scenes footage, learned almost everything about the characters and loved each second of it. This game isn't the first game. It's not a story about the lengths a father would go for his daughter. It's about what Ellie would do after losing Joel. (and honestly he should've died in the first game.. The wound he got from the fall alone should've killed him within hours.) and for those complaining about his death, I don't see how this game would've been possible any other way. It would've been just Joel saying "I killed the fireflies to save you" and Ellie would've been moppy for a while but what else could they have done? Try to get a new doctor and basically redo the first game? That's crap. This direction was much more daring and enabled the writers more room to grow Ellie. Get it together. For most of the angry reviews, I can tell they haven't even completed the game but worse than that they nitpick details and explain how they would do it as if they're professional developers or seasoned story writers. Most of them (nearly all) can't even spell "graphics"(or some other easy words) I don't count myself as a professional like Neil Drukmann, or Halley Gross, but I sure as h*ll don't think those bashing the game could've even created a good sentence let alone a beautiful 25 hour long game.
The characters are deeper than any other shooter based game(or any for that matter).Even the NPCs have names to remind you of the blood you're shedding. Some are deeper than others, some I care more than others, but it would be impossible to make every character as deep as Ellie or Abby. But mind you, they didn't make Joel very deep either. They simply made him a grunt that was irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. We still fell inlove because he was new. The only reason he's important is because he found Ellie and that's what made him less of a random person. But Joel, or the idea of him, is a simple man in complicated situations.
I get if you don't like the story, but this the end result of countless hours spent by the ND team. If you're gonna give it a score give it a fair one. if you're gonna bash something properly explain why. Just cause you personally have anger in you doesn't justify an attack on hundreds of people and their work. This game is art and the fact that there are so many id*ots bashing it proves its great art.

The game play is fun, and almost completely different from the first game. There are new mechanics which opens your mind to different perspectives and ways to Traverse. The story picks up where we left off almost immediately (and goes back on forth in the time line) and graphics are beautiful (duh) this game is amazing and I really wish people would get it a real chance but that didn't happen.

So... Where do I start? I just can't believe that Part II is finally here and that I already played it. I only waited for around 8 months because I played Part I when it was for free on PS Plus. Since then I waited for this game. I know... It's not a long time, but it felt like years, because I knew, that Part II would be damn good! And all the time, I was right. I played a lot of games but this one is special. I never had feelings like that before.
It took me 4 days and around 20 - 21 hours to finish the game. Overall I was always excited when I played The Last of Us Part II. At some times I got bored, because I didn't want to wait for what happens next. I think this won't be a problem at the second playthrogh. At some points it was just scary and I was happy, when I was able to leave a gruesome place.
I don't want to scratch the surface. I want to go deeper into the game.

    The gameplay:
The gameplay was great! When you liked TLOUs Gameplay, you'll definitely love the gameplay of Part II. You're able to move faster and Ellie is a good playable character. Using stealth was always fun. But it's also great to have a big gunfight with other enemies. What you do is up to you. At some points you're maybe able to sneak around enemies. But I always killed them because it's important to get supplies and ammunition.
With the new gameplay mechanics every fight is different. I really like the new dodge feature. You don't feel like a fool anymore, when you get killed. But in my opinion Part II is easier than the prequel. There was only one sequence in the game where I died oftenly. I played it on normal and I think that the normal difficulty is harder than in the first game. A friend of me has a complete other opinion, She thinks that Part II is harder.

    Leveldesign:
There is not much to say about this. It's just Naughty Dog Quality. The game looks great and authentic. I really liked the little details, One of my favourite new features is the safes. You can find safes with passcodes all around the world. They include supplies and other stuff. It's always connected to a little mystery. Sometimes you only have to find a little note which includes the passcode.
Part II really scared me sometimes. Sometimes it was only the level design or the infected. But there were also some jumpscared and they really scared the hell out of me.
The levels and the atmosphere are overall great!

    Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is like in Part I amazing. Gustavo Santaolalla did his best work again. But not only that: The songs that were sung by Troy Baker or Ashley Johnson really gave me goosebumps.
    The soundtrack is simpley great.

    Characters:
The characters are good. I loved it how you found out about the background of some characters over the story. It all just came together. The characters are authentic and good made. It's nothing revolutinary but they are good. But I have to say: The acting is great. All the actors did their job fantastically! Ashley Johnson is truly the perfect Ellie!

    Story:
Oh sh*t. Where do I start? For me it was the best and most emotional story ever made. It's really an emotional journey. There are parts, where you are sad, sometimes you're happy, angry, scared and much more. You feel the pain of the characters. I never felt anything like this before, especially in a videogame. You have to play it for yourself! It's definitely worth it! If you only saw the trailers, you don't know what awaits you. You still don't know what awaits you, if you read or saw spoilers. The game goes into a completely other direction. It's amazing. I don't want to tell more for the people who haven't played it yet. You have to play it from the beginning to the end.
I cried a lot throughout the entire game. It touched me emotionally more than any other game including TLOU 1.
The story goes very deep so you have to think a lot about it to understand it correctly. If you only view it from above you won't understand it. Go deep inside the story and think about every word. It's definitely worth it. I guess a lot of the haters don't know what this means (No offend).
In my opinion it's the best storyline ever written. Neil Druckman is a genius. The more I think about it, the more I love it.

    What do I think?
In my opinion The Last of Us Part II is Naughty Dogs best game ever made. You can really feel the efforts they put into this, when you play it. I can recommend it to everyone who loves story-driven singleplayer games.
It's a truly masterpiece. In my opinion it's as good as the first game. But it's completely different. You can't compare Part I and the sequel. Just think about what all the brutality and all the emotions in this game really mean. You can't describe it in words!
You have to play it for yourself.
Don't listen to others! Play the game and make your own opinion.
Thanks for reading! I wish you fun playing!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is beautiful, but the story decisions are horrid. Probably the worst story driven game I have played in a very long time. The lack of consciousness by the development team is shocking. Instead of playing a story driven game, you play a vendetta and revenge story line that lacks because of the characters surrounding you. Then, you make me not able to finish that vendetta... You ruin both characters from the first game in this disgrace of a sequel. Atrocious decisions by this development team who honesty should not work on another Naughty Dog story game ever again. The gameplay isn’t the best because you’re searching for collectibles more than playing the story most of the time which is probably why they put so many of them in the game to distract you from probably the worst writing and development of a 2nd installment ever. This game should serve as a catalyst on how to ruin one of the best video games ever made. I am honestly shocked Sony gave the green light to release this after someone read this horrible script and plot. So many flaws and horrible decisions you’ll be baffled. There were so many ways they could have built a fantastic second installment, but this game falls flat within the first hour. If you want to play a great game and don’t care about getting mad about the story it’s a good buy. The game is average and worth a buy once it’s on sale. If you’re going to get upset and break a controller, you can surmise what they did and watch the 25+ hour waste of time on YouTube or Twitch.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For the longest time, Ive never thought about reviewing games on metacritic, but considering the disgusting attacks on the developers of this game, I decided to help and do a small part to counter balance the bigoted and idiotic reviews that have been amplified by cowardly neo nazis and troll farms. Your lives are absolute jokes, hate speech is not free speech.

So, onto the game itself. Absolutely fantastic, the story was so good, and the depth explored in the relationships of the characters supported the decisions of the characters themselves. At one point I thought that Ellie was not justified in continuing to pursue Abby, yet what followed was a flashback to one of the last interactions Ellie had with Joel, showing Ellie's regret in not communicating how much she cared for him, and hence why she blames Abby for taking that opportunity, and her new found father figure, away from her.

Playing as Abby for half the game was a great change aswell; to see the story from both sides, and help explain Abby's actions and pursuit for revenge. I felt sorry for Abby by the end of course, but I remained team Ellie. I loved the way the lines blurred so much to humanise the choices made by the characters, and to show that neither side was completely "good" nor "bad. The reason I have given a 9 score instead of a 10 is because I found the supply collection mechanic very tedious by halfway through the game. Wandering between different rooms to find any scrap of fabric or random screw became increasingly monotonous, and I also felt broke immersion too (such as any point where the characters were supposed to be in imminent danger, but you would have to spend 10+ minutes looking for supplies).

Apart from that; the combat, the stealth, the upgrades themselves were all fun to practice and build on as the game went on. My favourite part of the whole game was the absolutely terrifying encounter as Abby in the Seattle hospital basement, I absolutely loved it.

Overall, this is an absolutely wonderful game and I highly recommend it to any fan of the first. Until this game's release, I was fully expecting Half Life Alyx to win game of the year awards later this year, purely for the innovation and quality. However after playing the last of us part 2, I don't think the decision will be that clear cut, and either game will be justified in sweeping the board. This is a fantastic game, and I loved every second of it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was massively looking forward to this sequel for all of 7 years. The writing was trash, the game is supposed to be subversive and about conflicting empathy but the writing clearly doesn't understand the characters at all. If you were Ellie you would have killed Abby when you had the chance (Ellie wasn't forced to play as Abby like we were and has no reason to stop killing her in the end) because the way Joel died, with Ellie watching, would **** Ellie up for life... and the same goes for Abby, she would have killed Ellie both times she had the oppurtunity to, doesn't make sense that these characters just stopped hating one another at every crucial turn because Neil thinks the game is better than that lol. The game villainises Ellie in a way I despised, and forces/manipulates the audience to sympathise MORE with Abby. I did not wait 7 years for Abby's story, and even though Joel is a bad person I still like him a hell of a lot more than Abby, who killed him in true psychopath fashion. Every side character is barely developed, they are literally plot devices used to make the player feel awful about what the game forces you to do, pretty much every aspect of the game is there to give the same affect actually, the dogs are guilt trips, the way the random enemies called out generic names of their friends when they die like "Noooo, Mark!" to a point where I am face palming... the notes scattered around the world, having Ellie kill a visibly pregnant woman, beating a woman to death for protecting a friend, and finally the worst one that truly makes Ellie unforgivable is right near the end when Ellie threatens to kill Lev, who is a CHILD who has nothing to do with Ellie's revenge plot, also Ellie didn't chase Abby across hundreds of miles, to have a fair fight with her, the entire point is revenge!!! Like when Abby takes her revenge at the beginning of the game from Joel, she shoots him in the knee to disable him, has her friends pin him down, and then proceeds to beat him to death... so why the **** does Ellie threaten to kill Lev when Abby refuses to fight her in that final battle? Ellie isn't there for a fair fight, she wants to kill Abby! Why in the world, is Ellie letting Abby have any kind of an advantage in a fist fight, as they are both equally as exhausted and downtrodden and tortured as each other.... If I was after revenge, I wouldn't want a fair fight, if the person I hated more than anyone was refusing to fight me, not that I would ask for a fight, I would just kill them, in cold blood, and not give a **** like every npc Ellie and Abby kill without a thought before this point. And on that point, why did Ellie cut Abby down from the post on the beach where she was basically left to rot and die hanging on the post, again, if I was Ellie, I wouldn't untie Abby, I would kill her where she hung on the god damn post!!!! And further on this point, if I heard from a literal slaver, that my worst enemy, who I wanted dead was in slavery, I would be satisfied that they were recieving the punishment they deserved. It's not that Abby deserves to die like that either, it's that Ellie would want that because Joel was like a father to her, who would sacrifice himself for her, Joel would protect Ellie at all costs, always, no matter the consequences. Neil Druckman so clearly doesn't understand revenge, he's clearly never been abused or hurt unforgivably by someone that the message in his game ended up being that violence always leads to more pain, and is always bad, and that all people, even people framed initially as bad guys, are in fact people with feelings and relationships and they're all complex and deserve sympathy. I gotta say, not only do I think the writing was atrociously unbelievable, I also disagree strongly with the agenda of the game, with the idea that violence is always bad. People who have been abused by other people, the victims deserve and are entitled to hate their abusers and want them dead, or people who have loved ones who were abused or murdered or raped by someone, these victims are not wrong for wanting these awful people (no matter how complex the abusers are) dead and even to kill the abusers painfully, like how Abby killed Joel. The real life monsters of the world, rapists, murderers etc, their victims are entitled to wanting revenge or justice, and to hatred, and **** Neil for trying to say otherwise. The game is above all else completely hypocritical and pretentious as well as lacking empathy (while trying ironically to empathise lol) because while trying to tell the player that all the violence is bad and people are people, it also makes killing people in a violent brutal video-game, extremely fun. Why when Neil makes all his money off of gloriously violent video-games is he trying to say violence is bad and revenge is always bad, but then he goes and makes the combat so wonderfully fun? And he makes the awful violence so god damn gratuitous? Worst gaming experience I have ever had!! Expand

The Last of Us: Part II is a master piece! because it makes you to put in the shoes of two different and very interesting characters so you can know the two different version, propuse and motivations to understand why they did that and what led them to that.

The gameplay is amazing, great balance of looting/crafting/moving/puzzles. The sound is amazing. Graphics are pushing the limits of PS4. Animations are even smoother than in Uncharted 4, I barely saw any weird body movement or transitions. The world is very well designed.
There are strong characters that are developed well and you really care about them.
One huge criticism though: one of the many side characters feels oddly irrelevant.
Gamers criticized the company for making Ellie gay back in 2014, and right now most criticism revolves around hate towards "packing the game with feminist propaganda". But honestly, after playing the game, I'm disgusted by reviews like that. It's like me and those reviewers played two different games, where I got the message of the studio, and others just tunnel-visioned on things they are opposed to. I loved the game, story, and most characters.
In TLOU1 the idea was: the world is cruel and Joel, huge piece of **** changes through interaction with a girl that reminds him of his daughter, then at the end lies to her to keep a relationship alive.
in TLOU2 the idea is: the world is really really cruel and . It's now shown from a different perspective.
If the point of the game is to show how cruel people can be when defending themselves or to get revenge, then this is the best game ever to play. The story is built around that idea and supports it well.
My review is 95/100. Took 23 hours to play through.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’ve been searching for people who suggest other storylines after claiming that it was « bad writing ». Every single one I read worked. And it was a satisfying story. A comforting one.
Writers didn’t choose that path and that’s precisely what makes that game a **** masterpiece.

Pretty much everyone acknowledged the quality of the level design, animations, visceral gameplay, sound design, music, lights, particles, physics, good timing for hints, believability of characters gear, storytelling through environment, and incredible attention to details in general.

So what seemed to polarize people is that they feel forced to root for, or at least forgive Abby. One of the main angle of the series is that there is no hero. They pushed that idea further.
They didn’t just try to humanize Abby, they showed you behind the scene of factions and around what values and codes the organize and survive.
They constantly question you about the worth of revenge, but also personal vs collective motivation. And since every time you’d root for Ellie to bash the skull of anyone who hurts her, the game reminds you that you are no better than any of the characters. The story doesn’t try to satisfy you, the gameplay does. The story plays with your ethics and empath by constantly shifting the point of view.

To address another thing I've seen many ranting about is that at no point they force any sjw stuff down your throat. They live in a world where people have to survive extreme threats everyday so a girl might look like a slender teen boy or be jacked like a mma fighter who don’t give a **** about conservative/progressive view on norms and canons. The focus is on the characters motivations and not what they identify with.

Final point about the writing, every character has a unique presonality, gimmicks, an accent, all this incredibely well conveyed by the actors. If acting is reacting, this is to me the best example to date in a game.

So I genuinely don't understand the hate. This is good writing.

This games punches to your guts just after stabbing you in the same spot, and nails every detail of it.
    So again, it’s a **** masterpiece.

Another masterpiece from naughty dog. Not a happy game to journey through, but the roller coaster of emotions, brilliant moments of beautiful melancholy, and cathartic ending put the stamp as one of the best video game experiences for mature gamers that are able to appreciate something different then the cliche and conventional storytelling we are used to from other fiction series. I really don't understand the bad reviews, this game shook me to the core. It conveys the brutal life in post apocalyptic USA in a painful but honest way. The gameplay is great, the graphics are magnificent, the characters are deep, the story feels real. This might hands down even be better than the first game.

The developers made some real gutsy moves with the story and characters

The developers made some real gutsy moves with the story and characters which probably alienated some people. Make no mistake, the story gets real dark and depressing, but to me this just adds to the feel of the harsh reality in world the game is set. To me it seems the "haters" have missed the message in the story all together. Who you care about is relative. You have to make yourself emotionally available enough to understand why the characters do what they do. Not everything is black and white, good or bad, not everyone is a hero or a villain, not every death is grand and dramatic, not every person is remembered, not every person matters. It's all relative. This game deals with how we as humans act in extreme situations and how it polarizes society. There are no winners in a revenge game.

9/10. I'd write a longer review if my phone screen wasn't being weird. Play this game, avoid spoilers for it and play it for yourself. The second act makes you question everything you did in the first act, and that's really impressive imo. Its got a lot of hate on the Internet for some real stupid reasons. It won't be for everyone, hell I was conflicted for days on the ending, but I loved it, II'd write a longer review if my phone screen wasn't being weird. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is a pretty brilliant character study, but it's also a fun (yes, fun) third-person stealth shooter with some next level gore effects. The story goes to some **** up places but it's not 100% misery porn, and it's less about revenge than it is about empathy and forgiveness.

The criticisms that are valid (though I don't agree with them, I understand them): it's kinda long compared to other Naughty Dog games, clocking in at 21 hours for me personally, with a time rewind at the halfway point that makes the pace feel a bit strange; the story can be really dark and unforgiving, at times relentlessly so, to the point that I wouldn't recommend it to someone who can't handle watching movies about trauma; not every character is developed all that well (Isaac, and some of the minor WLF characters).

The criticisms I don't consider valid at all: Joel deserved a noble death (nobody in The Last of Us deserves a noble death); Joel acted out of character before his death (he spent 5 years settling down in Jackson, helping strangers regularly with Tommy, and it is a sign of his growth as a character to have his final act be a heroic one (saving Abby)); Abby is unrealistically buff (living as a soldier in a stadium with a **** farm and a working gym oughta make you fit, not to mention her bulking up so much is motivated by her desire for revenge that lasts for 4 years compared to Ellie's rampage happening over three days); playing as Abby is false advertising or something (go check out the marketing materials for MGS2 that made it look like you'd be playing as Snake); ending sucks (if you wanted to kill Abby after everything that happened, you clearly went into this game wanting to hate it -- like, even if you don't forgive Abby, the fact is that she's not really any different from Ellie, so if you didn't want Abby to kill her in Seattle, you shouldn't want her to kill Abby at the end).

10/10 because I've never seen a Naughty Dog game balance their gameplay and narrative so well before, and because you can shoot people's **** legs off.

PS - if you hate this game, remember that games are an artistic work like a movie or a TV show, so if you buy it and you dislike it, it's not the same as if you buy a vacuum and it doesn't work. The Last of Us Part II is undeniably a polished and well made product, so if you disagree with the artistic choices, tough **** stop sending the creatives who worked on the game death threats ffs.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
