It is unbelievable the path that the plot of that game took. It really is a shame. My recommendation for those who have already played the first game and are thinking of taking the second one is to stay away from this game. Keep only the good moments of the first game. Expand

I know for a fact I did for the most part even though I was upset with some of the decisions they made. It had me emotional in some moments especially the ending had me on tears and I don't cry at a lot of things. The game really grasped me in it's story. The acting is the best I have ever seen in a video game, and maybe even in all media, I just can't get over how good it was, every moment felt real. The animations were top notch and the enemy AI was a lot more intelligent than in the first game and most games I've played. However there was a moment in the game where it didn't really feel like it took place in a The Last of us world type setting which I did not really like. And even if the story doesn't appeal to you the gameplay wise this game is phenomenal and still worth picking up in my opinion. I would also like to mention that I was upset with the false advertising. Nevertheless I still very much enjoyed the game and I am looking forward to Naughty Dog's next game.

The plot is an insufferable, woke, SJW, nonsensical, petty revenge story . The game certainly looks nice, but who would care about this in a narrative-driven product?

    The cons:
    - Lackluster and repetitive gameplay that fails to reiterate on the first instance in this franchise. - A story that seemingly is aimed to entertain only one person: Satan. There is much to be said, but I can only say how disappointed I am in what used to be one of the worlds best game studios.

In this age we have a lot of games with good graphics... This is just not good enough ... The story is superficial, forced to promote real life ideology... This should be entertaining and rewarding experience...the strong part of the first episode was the story . That is gone ,poor writing, akward interactions between protagonists. Second part is even worse the coffee scene is a disgrace for this franchise and makes someone almost puke on how low budget the plot is. The game is not perfect but trying to give it a 10 at every turn when this game is filled with bugs and plot holes is just utterly disrispectful towards your fans and consumers and making fanboys fight for a lost cause. The game is less than 0 because there is no significant and true emotional content only pretty graphics with the most distorted story possible. This is a shame on game journalists and media in general not because is bad to like it but because they are unable to look at it's inumerous flaws. People are not happy. Expand

Naughty Dog lied to us with the first game like Joel lied to Ellie, for the opposite reasons unfortunately,

Naughty Dog is always a pretty overrated but still overall decent developer. Last of US is decent and a 7/10 to me. Story was predictable and gameplay is quite repetitive and lackluster. Things they do well are animations, lighting and probably graphics. They still do and it's top notch among all PS4 games. Artistically and creativity is never their strong at that. My expectations weren't too high for this game, but I didn't expect it to be worse than the first by quite a large margin. At least I thought the story, characters' development and dialogue would still be somewhat enjoyable like the first.

However Last of US 2 still managed do make me very disappointed. All the new characters are boring. Ellie and Dina basically had 0 character development throughout this very boring journey. There are some very tense moments in the beginning but it kinda fell apart after the first few hours of the game. Afterwards it's just sneak behind, stab or sneak, shoot, throw a stone to distract the enemy, rinse and repeat. Occasionaly there is some explosives you can use and that's it. Nothing unique is added weapon wise.

Levels are slightly bigger which seem like a plus. however exploration is pointless due to the very limited weapons you can use. It does not add anything new to the story either. Sometimes there are interaction between Dina as you wander around for some scenary, sadly since she's a very lackluster, average looking character with a flat personality, my jaw almost fell on the ground due to endless ho-hums. Their dialogue is pretty much what you see with girls on your social media account.

Another big complaint for Naughty Dog's games are being crazy linear. For some reason all their previous titles that got a pass from gamers a decade long. I always disliked that because personally, games are meaningful to play because I can forge my own path. Otherwise, I'd rather watch a movie. In Last of US 2, this issue is magnified to the maximum. Developer thought they created a great story, yet it felt crazy forced. Had they cut out those many boring moments and created a few more branching of the story and let player choose how the direction of the storyline in the second half to ending, it would be a much more interactive experience and perhaps I will be much more invested on every moment and details of the game so I can make my own choice for this journey.

Lastly, Ellie's redesign is horrible, she used to be somewhat cute and now she's just like those protesters I saw on the last few week of BLM protests. Not to mention that she-male character and antagonist they created for the sequel, it's insane and by far the worst villain of any first party titles from Sony. She's like someone who won the lottery and became and became a billionaire, I wondered if Naughty used this method to just pick any NPC to become the main antagonist, there's no way you can tell she's so special other than Naughty Dog keeps put the camera focus on her.

It's time for Naughty Dog to go back to the drawing board and understand why gamers play a game again. Gaming is fun because players can control. They need to create far more options for the players and let players make choices and develop way more tools for players to utilize that can affect the characters and the world within a game. Characters' physical appearance also needs to be customizable. It also shows the importance of mod tools, let players join in and add exciting content and customize your game even further. I'm tired of playing games like this where developer force the player to play the game their way and to go the story on their restrictive linear path.

Story when we are reviewing a single player campaign with no multiplayer, it's the most important point to get right to add replayability, recommmend to others, accessibility. In my own critical opinion the story felt unbelievable, many decisions over the story makes no sense, commonly known as the "plot armor", many relationships which TLOU2 focused on more than the story itself, felt forced and scripted in a terrible timeline of events.

TLou2 felt like the beginning stage to plan this game was, how to make more brutal and gruesome? to show the cruelty of the world they live in by breaking the boundaries of what games have shown in violent and sexual acts to fake easier an impact or shock.

CHARACTERS: a big problem here since any character respecr what they were on the previous entry, they as well could be other characters if it werent for the resemblance and it shows strongly when they reckoned Tlou1 in form of amazing flashbacks which make you wish all the game were just in the past. Without going into spoilers. Its is hard to recommend this game to others, it has a few awesome sub-plots, clearly doesnt deserve anything less than a 5 just for visuals and sound but when story is what are you selling and its terribly written in a way that would want to make you stop playing and bought for 60 dlls to see such a disrespectful story to tlou legacy. It hurts its own fan base which i was into, without amy hennig as the main writter and lead i wouldnt be interested in a sequel to this.
Sorry for any bad grammar, i am mexican and i know my english is not perfect, hopefully i was able to make my point clear.

Planned actually a 7 but since story is the heaviest point to be able to replay, i did give it more weight and as a 6 i cant recommend it, (PASS) unless you really want to experience the story by yourself even with all the warnings

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us 2014 made a good impression on many players around the world, good graphics, technical part, history in the end. And one of the most beloved characters in the entire gaming industry, Joel, a character that I wanted to worry about, for which players were afraid that he would not get a decent sequel. It was this character who made the last of us what it is. A man who lost his daughter, becoming insensitive and cold-blooded, such as you should be in a world populated by zombies, in a world where people literally fight for food and weapons. The loss of someone close to him caused many players to shed tears, so well was this moment in the game worked out. There was no love line in the game that would distract the player from passing the first part. Only survival and only a world populated with dangers, one task is to save the world with the help of Ellie, but throughout the game we see how Joel's attitude to Ellie changes, how he begins to take care of her and finally understands that she has become a native person for him and does not allow her to kill. And now for the last of us 2, hopefully the first trailer, the voice of the beloved Joel, Ellie angry at all, here it is a dream come true, it was supposed to be a sequel to dreams, BUT the release of the second trailer, lesbians in the eyes, inflated woman, suddenly out of nowhere increased the number of races in the world where WALKS a DEADLY VIRUS, LOOTERS, HUNGER, DISEASE MORTAL DANGER TO ANYONE, but not for a group of lesbians and Teens, which is the story of the game, honestly the first ten minutes of the game were great this is when you play as Joel. Further and further the game becomes uninteresting. And I had a question AND for what 10/10, FOR WHAT??? thanks for the graphics, but we've seen better ( red dead redemption 2, God of war, the order 1886 2015 release!!) so just look at what the graphics are, it will not work, hmm... maybe the gameplay, maybe there is something new, that's a surprise, NO there is the same thing that was, I repeat for what 10/10???? Yes, you shoved us lesbians, open, I beg your pardon, pornography, and of course, inflated women and men. So I still do not understand this world in the post-APOCALYPSE, where there IS NOT enough FOOD WATER and MEDICINE, do you call this realistic??? do they have gyms open and everyone drinks protein? Lord here is an example of post-Apocalypse (mad max, where to get diesel and water, where the people look like crazed savages where no one wants anyone to have sex) there are also examples in movies, and it dies the whole planet, the land of the dead, dawn of the dead, but in the second zombie movie there's sex but its not shoved in trailers, and did not put on a show, look we have sex. All this pornography completely spoils the whole atmosphere of the game, the atmosphere of post-Apocalypse and danger. The world is not so much gays and lesbians, and in the game where the world is on the brink of extinction, where all eating hungry zombies, kill the marauders, and destroying of the disease, for some reason it's not picking them from the fact that they are what OTHER diseases do not take and zombies don't want them to bite??? And also probably one of the most important questions, if all this LGBT squad does not affect the plot, then WHY DID you PUT THEM in the GAME, WELL, that's WHY, IT only DISTRACTS the PLAYER from the PLOT. But they say with a proudly raised head "look we have lesbians and sex" we are for everyone, dear creators, leave your position on this matter to yourself, we do not NEED it AT all and are not INTERESTED in it. And so we realized that all these LGBT characters were not needed at all, we figured out that it is simply IMPOSSIBLE to pump up someone, men or women in such a world. and finally... Joel. what did they do to you, the character everyone loves, who everyone cares about, was killed.... With a GOLF CLUB, and now laugh because it's so funny, you would have just drowned him in the toilet, no well, seriously, a man who lost his daughter, who survived in the world of the post-Apocalypse, who almost lost his heart, was beaten guys with a Golf club, a GOLF CLUB Carl, I don't understand why???? FOR WHAT ???? YOU TREATED HIM LIKE THAT. it was he who represented the last of us, not ELLIE, but JOEL. And you want high ratings from the players??? and Yes by the way all those who say, "you're just in the game is not played, so I don't understand" or "Yes, you never created the game and so you don't understand" to understand that the movie is bad as a game, it is enough to watch the trailer or ten minutes from a movie or game and understand that in the movie as in the game may be bad graphics, bad beginning, bad acting, no need to watch the whole movie or to GO through the WHOLE game YOU KILLED THE LAST OF US BECAUSE OF ALL THIS BECAUSE OF LGBT PROPAGANDA FOR EQUALITY, AND FOR THE MURDER OF JOEL, YOU CAN'T BE FORGIVEN. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I feel obligated to say that this game is supposed to be divisive. Do not base your opinion about this game on my review, Try it for yourself. It could work for you, but it sadly didn't for me.

I wanted to love this so badly. I avoided all spoilers and had a fair amount of optimism going into it. I'm 100% sure that the trailers were just as bad as the spoilers, because the spoilers are a large part of what ruined my experience. Most of what I'll discuss is to do with the story.

Firstly, Abby. The core idea of TLOU is survival. You fight your way through and survive because you care about the characters, but I hated Abby for obvious reasons. Making a character do something we will hate for then having them redeem themselves to you (the player) makes it hard to actually like them. Had they made us like Abby and become attached to her before she did the unspeakable, it would've made it possible for us to forgive her and want her to survive, despite it being possible it still would've been improbable. Replacing the protagonist with his killer sucks. I didn't care about her or her friends, and I didn’t try to care for them in the 2nd part of the game since I had already known that they would die. While playing as Abby I wanted to run to clickers and let them bite me, which, again, destroys the survival aspect. I hoped that in every cutscene she would die, but even THAT was ruined because of the order they told the story in.

Instead, they make us play through **** that is clearly trying to humanize her and justify her actions, whether it be her flashbacks or her "compassionate" story with Lev which is just a rip off of Joel and Ellie. The justification for her actions were valid, but at the end of the day pointless because you do not care about who her actions were attempting to avenge, and you actually would be inclined to root against who she is trying to avenge (her father, whom Joel killed, and mankind, who were ripped off a cure) because saving those would've cost Ellie's life. ND even tried to make us sympathize for Abby by having her lose those around her, however, thats just the revenge we've been wanting. At the end I'm just confused about her because there isn't any point in killing her or letting her live.

Secondly, side characters. Having SO MANY characters that are just there to earn our sympathy rather than be actual characters, then killing almost all of them is so dumb. It makes us so emotionally numb to loss because so many of them die, that at some point I had stopped caring when a character died.

Thirdly, Joel and Ellie. The order that their scenes appear, as well as the number of hours between each one made it feel more like a side story. This somewhat undermined their importance. However, they are just too powerful and enjoyable to be called a waste.

Fourthly, the trailers set up a game that was completely different and seemed like it was REALLY gonna focus on the downfall of Joel and Ellie’s relationship, but just completely hit a 180. I’m certain that their intention was to have the trailers make it seem like Dina was the one that was going to die.

Lastly, and this is the most important: The storyline is pointless. The only difference between the beginning of the game and the end is dead bodies. Thats it, and, as aforementioned, that wasn't even meaningful because there were so many deaths. The only meaningful things that happened were the progress in Ellie and Dina, and Lev and Abby's relationship, but even the latter is just some rip off of Joel and Ellie that I don't really want to see play-out, and will not be buying the DLC or spin-off they will probably make about those two.

However, I can’t die how empty I felt at the end of the game, despite not caring about 65%(?) of the characters. I think that’s all thanks to just how greatly developed Joel was as a character, along with his relationship with Ellie. Neither Joel nor his relationship with Ellie were perfect, but were both very strong. Its because the way I feel

All in all a pointless experience with GOOD repetitive gameplay, GREAT graphics, and a GREAT soundtrack that is WILDLY underused imo. Multiple instances where I thought I'd hear a guitar riff but was met with silence instead.

Well, Naughty Dog was certainly successful at leading me to that obvious conclusion. However, the way that they conveyed the message of hate was so reckless that it was completely counterproductive. It only lead me to hate the game itself and want revenge inflicted upon the writer himself for his blatant disrespect of both the original characters, as well as the passion of fans themselves towards those very same characters. The writing could have been done much more "constructively" in regard to both character development and plot. It needed more purpose, I honestly felt like this game was void of any and it even bled over to make the original game's plot irrelevant. It's disgraceful that no "critics" were even remotely critical of this game. It has its strengths sure, but it certainly has its considerable flaws too. If graphics and gameplay are your driving force in selection of games considered to be enjoyable, this will be an acceptable addition. If you want a good, heartfelt, and well executed story like I enjoyed most about the first game, this is not par for the course...if anything I'd prefer a mulligan actually. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A piece of garbage. The story makes no sense and could not be written by anyone who has a little sense of logic and human emotion. I don't think it serves any other purpose than making the fanbase feel wanna vomit and disguised. We all know how cautious and smart Joel is from TLOU1, here he straight up tells a group of strangers his real name? Excuse me???? OK, I think it needs a little bit explanation why Joel has become a IQ nagative 100 guy in this game. Another thing, Abby killed Joel right after he saved her life --- with no hesitation? That does count as something right? The way he was killed is unnecessarily cruel. Really cheap shock value. Then the game doesn't stop going wose, and Abby is like "Yeah, I murdered Joel like a puppy, come and get me! NO F YOU, you don't get to do anything to me cuz the genius writer will make you spare me for whatever ****** reason only pickles would understand. Bonus, you have to play as me ^^" why the heck would I want to play as her? Oh, two sides of character? Sorry I'm good, if there's any sophistication in the characters in TLOUS2, it's because the story is so poorly written, and nothing in the game progression makes any sense. The guy who leaked the story is a hero, he was trying to save you 60 bucks.

Overall, TLOUS2 is a solid 0/10 for me. Although it's a decent game in all the other aspects, it was supposed to be the sequel of TLOUS. Its hostile disrespect towards the previous game disguises me to an immeasurable extend. Even a 0.1/10 is no no from me.

The game misses the most important thing that makes a TLOU game a TLOU game: STORYTELLING The game still has amazing dialogues, but that means nothing when the whole narrative is filled with plot holes. On top of that there is almost 0 innovation in TLOU2 gameplay whise, it’s basically the same game with a visual upgrade and a plot downgrade + it pushes several nonsensical agendas which don’t belong in a post apocalyptic game and for the most part not in any game period.

The only reason I am not giving this game a 0/10 is the amazing work the art and sound teams did and I don’t want to disrespect their and ONLY their work. Overall the game is a 4/10 because of that for me.

Edit: I‘ve changed my mind. Because they are blacklisting Metacritic to block bad reviews it’s a 0/10 for me. They even removed some negative reviews. Corruption at its finest.

The graphics, gameplay elements, new enemy types, and combat options were superb. I kept seeing myself get lost in this post-outbreak world with so many things to collect, see, and do. I understand a lot of people are outraged by the death of Joel but if you look past that the game itself is a groundbreaking piece of art, and many game companies should look upon NaughtyDog to make there game as intricate as this one. Gunplay is fun as usual especially when wiping out the super whiny enemies. The same scavenging mechanics are present in this one as well, all in all gameplay is still solid. There are many wipe open areas with not much to do especially in the Seattle area which makes it dull for a good chunk of the game.Unfortunately the story in this game is absolutely awful.Do not trust the critics on this one, more than half of them were paid off by Naughty Dog. Aside from the performances by the main cast it does not save this wretched unwanted tale of unrelenting agenda pushing.Neil Druckman has created a compromised mess of a game.By choosing to go the Rian Johnson route by subverting expectations, ignoring playtesters and fans, taking advice from questionable sources, and forcing employees to go through rigorous crunch periods to push out this unrealistic and laughable phantasmagoria he conjured in his head. For a story driven game the writing is stunningly poor to the point where you wonder why noone questioned the choices Druckman has fatefully made.I will refrain from spoilers but everybody knows at this point the dreadful scene that appears very early on in the game. Why naughty dog? Why this way? Why do it so poorly? It was a heartrending scene in not the way they intended. To me it felt like Druckman was personally spitting on whoever enjoyed the first game because he felt like they enjoyed it for reasons he didnt agree with.As i trudged through this bitter clunky story i noticed the Ellie we love didnt even develop as a character, instead becoming static midway through. Why you ask? Because in order to fully insult fans of this game the plot needs to be sacrificed. The controversy surrounding the LGBTQ aspects in this game is of no consequence, its great to see inclusion and perspectives from people on all sides of the spectrum but poor poor misguided Druckman used this as a tool and a crutch.Hammering these character traits down so hard the game seems to be more concerned with the way the characters are perceived and persecuted rather than focusing on an actual story. Making such a spectacle out of Ellie and Abby's sexual preferences takes the opposite effect.Rather than presenting these traits of the characters as something positive and organic,it is used in a very ugly way by punishing the characters for being gay. You can look at it as being realistic but the fact is it is not done in a well executed way.Supporting characters have bad goofy dialogue, poor decisions are made to fit the plot, and a very unfitting and pitiful end for a certain character leaves a bad taste in your mouth. The first game was brutal of course but it had a big big loving heart and by the end you understood whyJoel loves Ellie so much and why he had to do what he had to do to save her. In this game there is no heart, just ugly depressing situations that leave you with no hope and no sense of catharsis by the time the credits roll by.I finished this game feeling burnt out. With whats been going on in the world in 2020 we needed a win whether it be big or small, but this game is one big giant loss.Shame on Mr.Druckman for foisting his vile view of the world onto us. We dont need this game. Personally the story ended for me once Joel made his promise to Ellie after saving her. This sequel is just a representation of a delusional fantasy from a very sad man.Go back and play the first one and dont buy into this nonsense. The shill media overpraises this game because either the reviews are paid for or they are afraid of losing their precious review copies.Save your time and money! Imagine buying a Batman where you play as Robin instead, then Batman gets killed, not by the Joker or Bane or some known villain, but rather by a no name villain that has never been seen in the DC universe until that point right in the beginning of the game... and you're left as Robin to get revenge with the help, not from the Teen Titans or Batgirl or other young heroes, instead from random characters you don't know and don't care about and every now and then you play as the villain forcibly as an attempt to make the plot interesting. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was looking forward to this game after really enjoying the story from the first TLOU game. Personally I would give that original an 8 or 9. Story wise the original had a great story but some of the game play mechanics held it back. Also, as a personal note. I would never give a game a 10 or a 0; there is always something aspects that could be improved or is great that impacts this for me.

I was hoping to get to see more of the original story and see what would happen to Joel and Ellie. Though after my play through it seems like characters are not acting like their original counterparts. Sadly I think this game is a big let down for me. I think I would have been better off just watching some compiled cut scene video instead of buying. Some spoilers may be noted below.

    Good aspects:
    - Great visuals and linear level design. Graphically the game looks good.
    - Good voice acting. This really does seem like it could be more like a movie than a game.

    Ok aspects:
    - Level design is larger, but still very linear in design. Personally, would have wished we could have seen what a more open environment would have lent to this game.
    - Mechanics are still fairly close to the first game and not much is different at first glance. Core game play is still close to the first game.
    - Stealth aspects do provide a good pacing and tension. But, it will feel not as polished as other more stealth based games.
    - AI is ok, but feels very outdated and not any different than any other games.

    Bad aspects:
    - Overall story, was a major let down for me. I get that this is a revenge plot story but you don't see any resolution or closure for the main character.
    - Characters not acting in line with their past habits or known character aspects. (e.g. you have Joel who is openly trusting not familiar people early on. Joel was not like this and had an open mistrust of new people)
    - There is a lot of plot holes as the story continues on into latter parts of the story
    - Side quest section of the game seems drawn out and doesn't add much. This was around 8-10hrs of game play for me that could have been cut from the game and I don't personally feel it would have changed things.

Overall I was not a fan of this sequel to the first game. The only saving grace to me was visuals and the voice acting. I get what the Naughty Dog team was trying to do in that they wanted a divisive story that may not be for everyone. I think you have achieved that. It was tough getting through this game. With Joel being killed off very quickly and a revenge story that never seem to find any resolutions for Ellie. She never got her revenge and Abby gets away with everything.

Overall if you are fan of the first game and looking for more story telling on that aspect I think you will be let down. I can't say that I would recommend this game to many fans of the first game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. All I care here is the story. The first game gave us an amazing story and experience, where you are part of the bonding process of Ellie and Joel. You learn how to love both of the characters, and the Left Behind adds to that. TLOU2? It's ridiculous compared to the first one. Joel's character was severely brain damaged by the writers to do what he does. The story unfolds with a promise of something you never achieve, nor Ellie. Not to mention the trailer where Joel first appears was nothing but a big fat lie, misleading us to the bad written plot Naugthy Dog had come up. I don't feel like I wasted money buying this game, instead I like to think I bought a little bit of wisdom in not falling for hype and critics pre-analysis or critics analysis at all. That's my first and I hope, only, review. I'm heartbroken with this game. If Naughty Dog still has one functional neuron on their collective mind, they would rearrange the game, placing it chronologically. The flash backs between Ellie and Joel would happen first, and then we would be dragged to the "present" it wouldn't fix the poorly written story, but it would give a decent pace to the narrative and it would show a small appreciation and respect for the fans of the first installment of the franchise. 1/10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Heart-breaking for all of the wrong reasons, the story of TLoU2 is an objective downgrade when standing in contrast to the first game.

Perhaps the most pronounced flaw with the story of the TLoU2 was the writers completely abandoning the main themes of the first game to instead spread an invasive message of female protagonists forcefully replacing beloved male characters to fit an agenda and revenge leading to nothing but further destruction and ruination.

This is not what the Last of Us is supposed to represent as a narrative. The themes of the first game included Guilt, Loss, Acceptance of One's past and most importantly, the theme of Hope being the main driving force of the entire game. The bleak atmosphere present within the first game simply served the purpose of enhancing the previously mentioned themes, yet, in this latest instalment, the bleak atmosphere completely engulfs the entirety of the plot in a shroud of perpetual darkness and depression.

it is quite obvious that this sequel does things for the sake of being different rather than for the sake of elevating the story to never before seen heights. The prime example of this would be in the form of Joel's unearned and needless death. Evidently, the writers had desperately tried recreating the shock value of Sarah's death for the first game, with the 'clever' twist being the daughter figure witnessing the death of her father figure right in front of her eyes. However, this just comes off as being cheap and unearned. You're telling me that a hardened veteran such as Joel, the same person who sensed the Hunter ambush in the first game, would be dumbed down to such a point that he would follow an armed stranger into their home which in turn would have himself and Tommy surrounded by even more armed individuals, without even having a firearm ready? No, I'm sorry but that is just lazy and betrays the characteristic of Joel being cautious and highly vigilant no matter the situation. The player feels anger and frustration rather than shock and sadness, as they had to bear witness to one of the best written characters in video game history receiving perhaps the worst death of a main character period. Moreover, Joel was brutalized by an unrealistically muscular woman wielding Driver Nephi's Nine Iron from New Vegas.

The writers then expect players to endure 6-8 Hours playing as the roided out female who massacred one of their most beloved video game characters. No amount of subliminal 'Good-Guy Propaganda' could ever make Abby likeable in my eyes. I didn't care that she was petting puppies and helping save Zebras with her dad, the only thing I cared about during Abby's part was speed running past it so that I could continue to the actual story that I care about. The sad truth of the matter is that Abby could have been a strong secondary protagonist, however, the death of Joel at the very beginning of the game made her irredeemable. Only idiots, psychopaths and paid stooges in suits pretending to be valid, unbiased critics would actually enjoy playing as Abby and sympathize with her, which is such a shame considering that I could tell that Laura Bailey was giving the part her all. The writers should honestly feel ashamed.

Being brief, characters completely abandoned their characteristics which they had attained and defined during the first game, for the simple purpose of the writers feeling lazy when thinking of ways to accelerate the already paint-dry slow plot-hole filled story.

The saddest part of all of this is that I expected a lot better out of Druckmann, and I know for a fact that his talent when it comes to writing could have easily made this game an actual masterpiece rather than a colossal failure in the eyes of the general consumer. The evidence for this would be arguably the best parts of the game, the flashbacks. In my opinion, most, if not all, of the flashbacks were 10/10 and masterful in explaining the relationship between Joel and Ellie. As a matter of fact, these flashbacks were the only time in which I smiled throughout all of the game. What a shame and what a joke that the game did not follow these flashbacks instead of this horrifically stitched together plot.

Furthermore, if this game was meant to honour Ellie, it fell on its face thrice over before land sliding off of a cliff. Ellie gets one of the worst and most undeservingly dark endings I have ever seen in a video game. She loses everything she cares about, even being incapable of playing the guitar properly at the end of the game. I found this egregiously disgusting especially when Abby got a happy ending, mirroring the end of the first game where a now deflated Abby and Lev act as the new Joel and Ellie, sailing away into the sunset.

I understand the ending with what the writers presented, but Ellie sparing Abby is like if John Wick spared the person who killed his dog.

In conclusion, this story was mercilessly crippled by forced identity politics.

First, the pros of the game:
1.) Stunningly beautiful graphics and environment.
-The jungle has taken over cities and the imaginative scenery feels more and more surreal as you delve deeper into this world.

2.) All the interactions between Joel and Ellie are very well acted and captivating, almost on par with what we received in the first game.

    Now for the cons:
    1.) The Story
-Everything except the few times mentioned above with Joel, the story feels forced and unnatural.
-The characters that we grew to love in the first game, make out-of-character decisions in order to move along whatever story they’re wanting to express, which is basically just a circle of violence and vengeance that is boring and predictable.
-This story has a strong political motivation, trying to shoehorn in LGBTQ+ agendas, as well as new age feminism, forcing us into unrealistic decision making that goes against the gritty realism we’ve come to expect from its predecessor.
-The acting, taken out of context of the character and his/her development is good, even great at points, but when you insert the context of the story, it makes you want to either roll your eyes in mockery or scream from frustration, to the point that you actually want the character you’re playing to fail and die.
    2.) Gameplay
-If you enjoyed the first game’s gameplay, then you ought to enjoy this one too, because they’re very close to the same with a little bit extra to keep it interesting. However, it’s not nearly enough for the 25+ hour game time filled with mostly cutscenes, exploring, and fighting various baddies. They’ve mostly done away with puzzles, of which I found novel in the first game, and replaced it with anemic exploration. And the puzzles that they do have are painstakingly obvious, to the point where the only difficult ‘puzzle’ is finding the exit.
-Crafting has become slightly more complex, and with the increased options in advancing your skill set via supplements, you can experience a slightly altered version of Ellie and *unnamed* character, but it feels stale, adding very little newness.
-Everything else is practically the same. You still find collectibles throughout the game, notes that hold combinations to safes, and nuts and bolts to modify your weapons.
Sigh, I wish this game was what I’d hoped it would be.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was a big fan of TLOU1 so I’m disappointed with how TLOU2 has turned out. I will list my reasons for not liking this game.

    1. The game is many hours too long, and becomes repetitive and boring because of it.

    2. They make Joel and Tommy dumb, by having them go back with a stranger to meet more strangers. Then tell these strangers their names, their relation, where they live, invite them over, all to these complete strangers who are armed and outnumber them. Along with Joel and Tommy knowing Joel could be wanted because of what he did in TLOU1.

    3. The game tries to tell you Abby is nice and empathetic in her flashback scenes, yet when she reaches Joel (chronologically after the game tells you she’s nice) he saves her. She then proceeds to shoot him, and then violently beat him to death with a golf club, even in front of Ellie. Abby was also gonna kill Dina knowing that she was pregnant. So all this just invalidates what the game tried to tell us about Abby, and why we should like her.

    4. We are forced to play as Abby (Joel’s killer) for half the game. Joel was a loved character, and the vicious death he got, and the literal spitting he got, along with making us play as his killer, is a huge disservice to what he was to fans.

    5. By the end, Ellie reaches Abby who is tied up. She cuts her down and let’s her walk to a boat, simply to then attempt to kill her then. Why not do it when she was tied up? They fight, and Abby bites off two of Ellie’s fingers. Ellie is close to killing Abby when she has a vision of Joel. No words of wisdom, just Joel playing a guitar. She then let’s Abby live and go. To me, that vision along with having her fingers bit off mere seconds ago, would of reignited Ellie’s anger, and made her follow through with killing Abby. But no. Ellie then heads home to find Dina gone, and she’s all alone. Abby got her revenge, saved her friend, and kept all body parts. While Ellie lost all her friends, Dina, Joel, her revenge, and her fingers. Tommy is also injured. You don’t feel satisfied, you don’t feel like you achieved anything at all. It’s just pointless.

I could talk about the DMCA abuse, double standard with risqué scenes, and manipulation with the trailers, but I’ll keep this about the game itself. So that’s it, very disappointed with a lot of things. The graphics and voice acting is good, but for me, there’s far too many issues for me to enjoy it. THE END

Beautiful graphics and animation. A great world. Interesting start to the story. But the boring long continuation of the plot, the illogical and untruthful behavior of some of the characters, the disappointment at the end and the terribly made character of Abby.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is badly written. You can defend it as much as you want but at the end of the day it just is. Is a 0 out of 10 full with plot holes.
I ll give you 3 examples in Just the first 90 minutes of a 30 hours game:

Plot hole 1: Tommy and Joel giving out their names which they would never do. Druckman try to defend it by saying they let their guard down as 4 years have passed. This argument falls completely apart when you consider how caution Tommy was when Ellie and Joel arrives to him in the first game. Tommy by that point has been living for years in Jackson and even when his brother arrives he did not let his guard down until he recognize him.

Plot hole 2: When you play as Abby in Seattle every one at the wolf army realizes shes gone after only one day. But at the begining of the game she had been traveling for weeks with aprox 6 People only to find Joel when she was already a part of a different organization than the fireflies (she was a wolf by then). So did the wolfs let abby and her friends go with supplies and ammo for weeks so she can find her daddy s killer when she was one of the best soldiers of the wolf organization and also that the wolf organization has a planned to strike at lev s Island with abby in front of the first line of attack?

Plot hole 3: abby was saved by Joel but not a single second thoughts of the assasination that she was about to do when the person she was looking for has Just saved her life?

Plot amor: Owen tells abby that when the others see the town of Jackson they will want to return as it was too big. So What does Neil Druckman do to solved this? He sent Joel directly to abby a few hours later.

Bad writing at its finest! And yes. This is only 90 minutes in a 30 hours game.

-Gameplay....is there really something to say about this? Same old boring copypaste of the first one with some minor changes. The infamous jump button, some guitar sections.
I've seen many people online and videos on YouTube talk and show how the game is a BROKEN piece of trash. So many glitches and bugs.
-Story....the worst part of the whole game. We waited 7 years for this. Boring characters, boring old rEvEnGE story which we've TOTALLY NEVER seen before in a movie or videogame. Not just that but it executes it badly. The whole point is that revenge is bad, Abby gets her revenge and is awarded for it but Ellie goes through living hell and is punished for seeking her revenge. You literally cannot emotionally connect with the characters, and the way they try to make you to feel bad about your actions is so bad but not only that but they repeat it many times through the game. The way they try to make you sympathize with Abby is by making Ellie look like the villain, really shows their writing skills. The dialogue is so bad and the only way they could have done that to Joel was by making him stupid.
Don't believe those fake 10/10 who literally give no explanation for their score. Only thing you'll see them say is "masterpiece","game of the year","amazing story","don't listen to the haters". In other words they say "dude trust me". They don't back up their opinion at all unlike all the people who give it a negative score who explain why they did so.
    Final words:
Complete garbage, a waste of time and money. Keep your money for Ghost of Tsushima or Cyberpunk.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I apologize if i make mistakes, english is not my main language.

    1. There is no improvement in the game except for it's graphics and the new dodge mechanic that is completely broken and makes melee combat an ez pz task. Graphics are great, the gameplay is the same as in tlou 1, so there's nothing to talk about.

    2. The story is poor and full of "what a coincidence" moments and inconsistencies. Ellie is traumatized for torturing 1 person after killing thousands of them. I mean: WHAT, REALLY?

    3. The only point in the story is this "cycle of vengeance" metaphor. great cliché, doesn't explore further, doesn't even bother developing anything else, not a single good story neither for the wolves or the scars, just different groups fighting for territory.

    4. Abby doesn't kill a person that has travelled all across a city to kill her, just because? that without saying that Ellie killed everyone she cared about, of course. and SHE DOESN'T KILL HER cause it's Ellie?? OH BUT WAIT, she didn't have a problem when she had to travel all the way to Jackson to kill Joey. And all of this, for what? So Ellie can go after her AGAIN. TO LET HER LEAVE. Really? Ellie has a problem killing Abby but not all the people in the middle? this is ****

    5. What a piece of **** of an ending. But that's just my opinion.

    6. Lastly the game is so desperate to call attention that all of its main characters are LGBT, like saying "look at me, i'm inclusive". All non LGBT characters die. Except for Tommy just: BECAUSE. Even if he was shot in the eye. LGTB characters? no, we can't kill those. Look at me, i'm an inclusive game.
My question is: will there ever be a game that treats LGBT stuff as normal and not as a resource for screaming "look at me?". Suddenly it subverts all the machism and turns itself in the complete opposite type of game where all the character are either gay or empowered woman. Do we really want this to become the new "strong guy" ppal character for all the coming future games? will there ever be a middle-point?

My real note would be a 5, but seeing that people is just giving it 10's without reason i'll give it a lower note, i think it kinda deserves the review bombing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My Review:

Naughty Dog's mistake was to believe that people would be able to understand the complex world and mind of the characters and their changes during the years between TLOU1 and TLOU2.

Joel's death was composed perfectly, and has more deph to it then people were actually able to see. Joel lived for 20 years of his life in a quarantine zone as a smuggler, fighting the military, killing a lot of people and doing whatever it took to survive. But in TLOU2, Joel had his life completely changed. He was living in a city where people from all around would go throught it to trade, sleep for a feel days, and just go away. Joel was relearning how to live, relearning how to interact with people, and his only worries were Ellie's and the community's survival. Joel was a changed man! He "trusted" Abby because he had no other place to go and was used to finding travelers around the area. Also, it was not the first time Joel chose to trust someone, as he had trusted on Henry, not once, but TWICE in the first game + Henry even betrayed him, but Joel could forgive him as shown in the tower scene where they were having a very friendly chat and laughing. (OF course Joel wanted to know if Henry was right about the fireflies, but Joel had a place to go in his mind, and he choose to follow Henry instead of going afer Tommy, proving that even dough he was harsh, he could still trust people).
So in conclusion to this topic, Joel could not have know what he was getting into, and even if he saw something coming, he didnt have other choice + He had met a lot of traveleres that were friendly, so Abby's suggestion did not sound bad to him, especially in the situation they were. Joel's death showed he was a human being that can sometimes trust the wrong people and die. Its just like he told Ellie in the first game: "We are just lucky, and luck runs out".

    About the ending:
TLOU2's ending was close to perfect.
I read a critic by Cultured Vultures that had me disapointed, because I couldnt imagine how a specialized crew could be so blind to see all the game's journey and how the conclusion proved a enormous point, that is the main critic of the game (its important to say that I think revenge was the main critic, but the game makes a point about everything bad in the actual world right now, so its just my point of view about what is the main critic. It could be about something else in the actual director's plans)

    Cultured Vultures on TLOU2:
In trying to subvert expectations, The Last of Us Part II discards the best aspects of its predecessor to provide a rote revenge tale that is ill-considered, ending on a note that makes everything — all the violence, all the loss, all the struggle — feel utterly, hopelessly pointless.

Dear Cultured Vultures, the "pointlessness" of the revenge was exactly the sensation that the game needed to provide to show that revenge was not the best solution to anyone's problems, but you guys were too stupid to see.

Ellie and Abby lost everything during this journey of revenge. Abby had lost the fireflies and her dad, so she chaced Joel and killed him , but her revenge directly impacted someone that had no reasons to go after her before, and started a cycle of revenge that could have been avoided if she moved on. So Ellie goes after Abby, finds and kills every last one of them except for who she actually wanted to kill, and its forced to give up, because otherwise, she would get more people that she cared about killed. And the only reason that Ellie actually survived the third day, was because Abby showed herself as a good person that was blinded by revenge, and realized that she started this, so she tried to stop it herself by sparing both Dina and Ellie.
But Ellie had not learned her lesson and in her mind, her comfort would come from killing Abby, when it actually would only come if she could forgive Joel and herself, and by doing so, accepting his death like of those she loved that had died before. So in conclusion, Ellie was not ready to accept what she loss until she had lost so much that the only thing left was her humanity and the memory of Joel, so she spared Abby at the final scene, because in that moment where she nearly killed Anny, the thing that came through her mind was not what Abby had done, but what she could not do, which was forgive Joel sooner and learn how to love him again, and that was Ellie's biggest regret and the main cause of pain + She even lost her fingers 3 and 4, making her not able to play guitar, which was the thing that most resembled her of Joel's goodness and love.

Even if u didnt like the story , giving this art work of a game a "0,1,2,3" is unexcusable!
4.4 user average just shows that theres a lot of stupid people with internet, and that people arent ready for games as complex and deep.

The Last Of Us Part 2 is the best narrative I have experienced in all my life as a gamer.
Thank you Naughty Dog for this piece of pure art.

The only thing is, without spoiling, this is not a Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson game, but rather an Ashley Johnson and Laura Bailey game. Don’t go purely for Troy. I felt a little angry at the game’s story at times, but by the end, it feels complete and bold. Intense, interesting, and fun (in terms of gameplay, not story of course), this game is really good. And while I loved the relationship between Joel and Ellie, the great story here along with the drastically better gameplay and graphics make me prefer this game to be honest, although the original will always have a special place in my heart. And, without spoiling, I feel it does do Joel justice, but you have to play the WHOLE game to understand that.

Finally, even if you are bad at these games, I would highly recommend to at least try moderate or hard difficulty with aim assist and other accessibility features (some of them go too far, but most don’t sacrifice the experience). If you are still bad, you can change the difficulty, or even only certain aspects, in the settings at any time. I felt that the increased difficulty didn’t make me die a lot more, but it made the experience more intense and made me have to consider my resources slightly more. This sounds weird, but the gameplay routes provide many ways to get through the game.

Like what most people have said, the graphics are beautiful, as is the sound design and the level layouts.
But that can't save this game.

The characters are unlikeable, not to mention any character from the previous games are GROSSLY out of character to shoehorn in certain plot points or lessons that make no sense in the first place.
I never once felt any sympathy for Abby after she killed Joel.
That death was not dignified in the slightest.
If you are going to kill off one of the most beloved characters in all gaming, you damn well better do it right, and not only did they fail on every level to achieve that, they instead killed him in the most disgusting, out of character, despicable way I've ever seen in a game.
As if that wasn't the end of it, they then FORCE YOU to play as his killer for almost half of the entirety of the game.
These scenes are supposed to garner her sympathy to show her background.
The ONLY reason I finished this game was to kill her, and in the end, the game doesn't even let you do that.

tldr; They killed Joel in the worst way possible, in a way that made no sense for the character, had a character literally SPIT on his dead body, then force you to play as his killer, and in the end you don't even get to kill her.

The makers of this game should be ashamed.

    R.i.p Joel, you deserved better.

Story wise the game is a huge let down. Waited a long time to feel this much disappointed. What could have been a game of the decade has become a permanent wound on our memories. Well done Naughty dog you have ruined a Great game. Please don't make Last of Us 3. Enough is done

To those saying there is no character development, I am absolutely befuddled. The writing of both Ellie and Abby is stellar. Ellie begins transfixed with this idea of revenge, much like the player does. But then Naughty Dog forces us to play as a character designed to be hated. They are taking us out of our comfort zone, which is what an emotionally compelling story should do. They tasked themselves with the seemingly impossible job of lifting both the player and Ellie out of this spiral of hatred, revenge and self-destruction. And not only did they manage to pull it off, they did so all while staying grounded and true to the characters. I truly think it rivals the first game in terms of its storytelling and I feel distraught for the fans who did not enjoy it in the same way I did. Expand

I want to be really honest, I liked the graphics (even though they were not a big deal), the same gameplay. But the story, the characters, the line, the ideological propaganda (lgbt lobby) was absolute trash, as it was progressed in the game, it became more and more empty and incongruous, with characters that became simply insupportable, this sequel has nothing to do with the first game,I want to be really honest, I liked the graphics (even though they were not a big deal), the same gameplay. The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
