    This is a narrative based game and it has one of the worst storylines I’ve ever seen in a game! The rest of the game is just the same tired and derivative stealth and action mechanics that have been done better in most other games. How in the world could Naughty Dog so thoroughly destroy some of the most beloved video game characters of all time? Killing Joel in the way that they did was an absolute disgrace to his character and spit in the face of the fans. Then being FORCED to play as his murderer for HOURS while they poorly try to make her out to be a sympathetic character is insane. I felt no sympathy for Abby or her friends and all I wanted to do was slay all of them in the most brutal fashion possible the entire game. I didn't think it was possible to so thoroughly destroy everything I loved about the first game, but Naughty Dog/Neil Druckmann managed to pull that off in a spectacular fashion. If you are a fan of the first game like I am, then please for the love of God DO NOT BUY THIS GAME... Don't even watch a play through on Youtube. I wish I could erase the story of this game from my mind and just keep the memory of the first game alive and well. This is not even hyperbole, the story is that horrifically bad IMO. I could go on for hours about the faults with the story in this game but I'll leave at that for now. I'll give it two points for amazing graphics, environments, great voice acting, and decent game play, but minus 8 for horrific writing. 2/10...… Expand

Naughty Dog sadly lost its touch and delivered the biggest disappointment in the history of video games. Graphics and sound are top notch but there are certain elements in this game that destroy everything good it has and I really can not recommend it at all. This is a well deserved 0/10.     Had my review deleted too many times to bother with it again, all the **** you heard about it is true, thats what matters. Props for the production quality, the people who worked on the technical side of the game should stop wasting their considerable talents working for such garbage studio.

It would make more sense if Ellie and Abby would turn out to be sisters. -if of course they could find a way to connect the dr. as their father which was killed by Joel- but it would be justifiable for why Ellie just couldn't kill Abby at the end. But instead we get a sequel that makes no sense other than annoy it's fans story-wise and completely ignore customer expectations. You build a single game to sell, but if you build a universe and want it to be consistent you should be listening to your customer-base and not bash them with extremely irrational and childish responses on social media or try to cut them off to react the way they want with their opinions.… Expand

    Spare yourself the misery, accept TLOU1 as the end, then after reading the plot, watch a Let's Play. Don't support the game with your money, it's too divisive for that.     I loved the original game, yes the story was dark in many places but there was a spark of hope, there were tender moments of humanity that were shown as we learned to love Joel and Ellie. This sequel has none of that. I was looking forward to it and somewhere along the line I got swept away with the advertising, all be it in hindsight false advertising. Never again, I have learnt my lesson. The last time I felt this cheated was when I bought Dragons Lair for the spectrum 48k, it was nothing like the arcade version (and never could be) but advertised as if it was. You tube them, you will see what I mean. In conclusion, I dont mind a game that is not my cup of tea but please dont lie to me in order to increase sales.… Expand

    This is one of the best games with one of the best character driven stories I have ever played. I didn’t think I’d like certain parts or characters, but Naughty Dog brought them to life and made me fall in love with them. The majority of the bad player reviews are review bombs.     Actually my note would be a 7 out of 10 but it is not correct, the game takes you from one side to the other. You have to understand that humanity is always disgusting for it "Truth Is Stronger Than Fiction" and although this closely resembles Reality does not leave it for you or me, it has several flaws in empathy towards the characters.

    Play it.

    You shouldn't have fun with all the murder porn.
    You shouldn't have fun with the story, with the abuser of characters having fun with them.
    You shouldn't have fun controlling a character with zero development.
    You shouldn't have fun watching a not post apocalyptic world where is more important not surviving but having a character bald is the priority.
    You shouldn't have fun realising that the commercial trailers were misleading, showing different characters ingame.

It feels like they were trying to write a cinematic masterpiece but it just comes off like some teenager wrote it. And this isn’t supposed to be a movie, it’s supposed to be a video game.     This brings us to the worst part of the game. The entire story is unbelievable. Even if you ignore the "woke" elements being pushed by Naughty Dog it still does not make much sense. If you are expecting a carefully crafted story with believable characters be prepared to be disappointed. The entire storyline is like some sort of fanfiction or comic book like story arcs with supervillains.

    Overall, this game deserves less than 1 it simply does not reward the player with believable characters or satisfying gameplay. Even ignoring any story elements one cannot see much improvement in gameplay since last of us 1. When you are paying $60 for a brand new flagship Sony Game you expect that the gameplay will introduce new satisfying elements but Naughty Dog falls short. Lastly, it seems the creative direction of this game was a lot more influential in including many cutscenes rather than improving gameplay mechanics.    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the perfect combination of horrible writing with a fat budget turned to turd. I find the characters very odious, I think they are purposely written to push an agenda. Don't waste your money on this game. buy it when it's on a $5 sale and see for yourself the masterfully crafted garbage that is The Last of Us 2.

But having marketing tlou2 as ellie story is misleading. Side characters are bland and the force of using violence and no 2nd choice to avoid violence is awful. congrats ND you made a very divisive game and alets be honest. for such a narrative heavy driven game, ND decides to kill off a beloved character just to move the plot. im only not giving it a 0 for the game play improvement.     Great graphics, and game play quite fun... But I felt like there was an agenda aside from making a good game, that was trying to make some kind of point that had nothing to do with the story. People wanted to play this game based on the previous experience we had. But instead it seemed like this game was merely a means to an end. The end being a message they are trying to send.

    - hmm you thought joel was a great character huh, well imma have him die a slow and painful death to start things off.
    - oh and you thought the relationship between joel and ellie that the entirety of the first game was building is amazing and special, well guess what not anymore. its riddled with conflicts now.
    - will they resolve them conflicts? wait till the end to see.
    - oh so now you hate abby huh, well lemme try to change your mind with a 15 hour gameplay with abby.

In a game focused on the story of such characters and the development of said characters I can’t get why the writers decide to take this course. The game is a slap in the face of every naughty dog fan, instead of giving us an understandable meaningful well written story, they just gave us a cliché revenge is bad story and contradict themselves by saying bad deeds goes undone while claiming in a post apocalyptic world there is no justice.    … Expand

They killed off a beloved character Joel so early. When I got this game i was wanting to see the story of him and Ellie. I wanted to play as Joel. The flash backs made the game that much more sad. And also made me not want to play the game. I mean I waited 7 years. They advertised the game one way and gave us something compleatly different. The sad part about this all is because people are having these issues we have been called bigots and sexiest by the creators. So that really is a slap in the face for people like me who loved and supported them with the first game. I loved Ellie too in the first game because they did bring in a gay character so, that was awesome. She was witty and loveable. And her and Joel's relationship growing in that daughter and father dual was amazing. But this Ellie in the last of us 2 is nothing at all like the same from the first game.. I get people change in 4 years.. But it almost seems like the women rights agenda was so heavily shoved into this game. It had me rolling my eyes, because the amount of put down and demonizing of male roles in this game, to get their point across was disgusting. To me that's just as bad as shaming women. Just because they are men doesnt mean it doesn't count. Just like with Joel and Tommy they made them compleatly unlike their characters from the first game. Which put Joel in the situation that got him killed. It doesnt make any since. To me it had to have a good story. And this was far from anything close to the first. Plus you don't even get revenge. You go threw the whole game for literally nothing. Ellie gets nothing. A huge part of me just didn't care about it anymore because I hated the story line that much. The first 2 hours reminded me of the last of us. I waited 7 years for 2 hours. I paid 60+ for this game and played it and pretty much hated like 97 percent of the time. Its just disappointing. I want to give it lower then a 4. But the graphics were amazing. They did a amazing job on that. The A.I. was a little weired alot of the time but I saw some improvement. Don't like the fact their is alot of dog killing. In most situations unavoidable. But that's whatever, it wasnt a make it or break it for me like the storyline was.     Okay here is my review of TLOU2.

    Gameplay:
    Play's Similar to the first game with some new extended Options to it such as Jumping and crawling, Yet for me it feels sort of slippery and not as fluid as the first game.Also it is more a movie then it is a game which can be good or bad,In this case it was bad, I like Interactive games such as the Walking dead ones, But this game is really just like watching a long movie with very little gameplay.
    When it does Click back into gameplay the enemies do vary and can show some smarts, But I also seen many AI in my gameplay that were dumb.

    Graphics:Naughty Dog I will give props where due, This game is Beautiful,The world feels Alive, Colors can be both stunning and depressing"In a good way", The details in the faces are spot on with real life.

    Sound:
    Hit or miss for me, Some things sound good while others sound odd to me, Such as some of the voice acting, Most hit the marks with what lines they are given, And a few others sound like they phoned it in and wanted to walk away from the script.

    Story:
    This story is a mess, They take everything good from number one and ruin it with this one, I still like Ellie as I did in the first game, But Joel when he was Present he feels "Off", He does not seem like the same guy we grew to know from the first game, I do not mind the story moving forward, But this game seems like they Erased the first one and wanted to start over with new leads.
    It's a story about hate and revenge yet by the conclusion it is not even that, It leads up to nothing happening besides them all walking away!

    Conclusion:
    They had a chance to really make a mark with this game but they blew it really in every way, Not worth the price, If you can I say wait for a price cut or buy it used.    … Expand

I just finished this abomination and created this account to join in adding my voice to the rest of the fans of the previous game who feel aggrieved and let down by Naughty Dog. What on earth were they thinking? Didn't they actually play the last game? I'm asking Naughty Dog for my money back. The story plainly is awful; Joel's early demise is handled without respect for the history we as the gamer have had with him. Is it simply a poor copy of the "Sarah" moment from TLOU for the sake of an early shock to roll the opening credits to? The characters just don't capture that great chemistry that Joel & Ellie had from TLOU, Dina & Ellie just don't have it, their story / interactions were just boring or annoying and felt more like pushing an agenda rather than making or developing a story. Ellie & Riley from the Left Behind DLC were much better. However, their dull contributions cause nowhere near as much grief as the proverbial knife in the back from Naughty Dog in forcing us to play half the game as Abby, Joel's killer. This is a character that has no redeeming qualities or interest to me whatsoever. I feel bad for all the animators and mo-cap artists whose work I didn't see because I skipped her cut scenes at every opportunity I could in order to get to the end of her appearances; I just didn't care less what happened to her and I often fed her to the infected or threw her off tall buildings in the hope that it would enact some kind of digital voodoo to give the writers violent diarrhoea of an equally appropriate level. I cannot believe I waited seven years for this. I don't buy Joel getting caught by a group of well armed strangers given his experience of years as a smuggler and even sometime hunter and I don't buy Ellie wading through dozens of killings (of other people) to meet her nemesis (twice!) only to let her go after realising "killing bad" without any kind of communication or resolution other than more fighting. It just doesn't make sense - its a triple kick in the teeth - Joel's death, Awful Abby and Ellie's Revenge that wasn't. This is not a worthy sequel, its not even a funny parody.… Expand

It has its good parts, it has its great parts. Visually stunning, music is amazing, gameplay is very close to the first one. The ending was terrible. 30 hours of my life wasted, and you didn't even get to make a choice to kill Abby or let her go. You just let her go.     + Sound design - especially when modifying your weapon the details matter.
    + Level design - some really astonishing game design, especially in the aquarium.
    + The "back in time" missions with Joel and Ellie.

    Then, what I absolutely hated about the game:
    - Killing main character based on choices he wouldnt make in the first place. 0 logic there.
    - Abby!!! I honestly felt disgusted playing this character. I had to motivate myself extremely to play as her. There is absolutely nothing to like about her. - Also the whole buffed body doesn't make any sense... Women apparently didn't have any time to shave their armpits, but they do have time to consume steroids. Yeah, makes sense... It felt too forced, but since Abby had to lift **** move **** carry **** and needed to be a woman, oh...lets make her then unrealisticly strong as hell.
    - The storyline. It felt I was playing a political agenda. This was making the game almost impossible to enjoy. I don't want you to force your thoughts on me, eventhough we may think the same.
    - The ending. The last mission made 0 sense. I think it perfectly resembles how the director had no idea what the previous game made it so good.

    In conclusion, I will never forgive Naughty Dog for screwing up such a great game and potential. Please never make a 3rd one.    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

    If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
