Again, the story really does absolutely destroy any possible shred of enjoyment one could have in this sequel. It treats the established characters and fans by proxy like trash then forces you to play as an unlikable monster who NEVER gets their comeuppance which in turn causes the "revenge isn't the answer" theme the game has to completely miss the mark. Do yourselves a favor and just pretend this game doesn't exist. Cherish the first game forever. Hell, enjoy the LBGT-baiting DLC for the first game if you wish too, but just steer clear on this one. There is nothing of value to be lost if you just don't ever acknowledge it.

Hated this game as a massive fan of the original game. Probably the worst story I've ever come across in a game. Gameplay and graphics were good but they're really the same as the first one. Gameplay and graphics were good but they're really the same as the first one. Although many have asked whether we even needed a sequel to the first game, I think that's a reaction to this story. There are so many different ways they could have taken the narrative arc that would have been better than what we got with this. Never seen such manipulation through narrative choices which force the player to do things which they wouldn't want to do in a game. The darkness of the majority of the first game made the lighter moments between Joel and Ellie all the more poignant. The development of that relationship made the first game. There is none of that character development in the second game. This is just a nihilistic, depressing slog through endless violence disguised as high art. After all that, you are rewarded with a completely ridiculous and unsatisfying ending.

The death of Joel is the most troubling aspect of this game. Not that he dies, but the way in which he dies. Having to play as his killer for a portion of the game fails to make the gamer feel sympathy for the antagonist. It feels cheap and manipulative. Forcing content consumers to dwell in the murky greyness between good and evil seems to be a recent theme in entertainment. The disrespectful end to Joel’s story has a very familiar feeling to it. The destruction of all that came before to make way for agenda-driven narrative is a well-trodden path for entertainment content creators recently, most notably with the horrendous The Last Jedi. I'm not talking about any of the SJW stuff that many others have mentioned, although there are many boxes ticked here. The agenda I'm talking about is the one rampant in much of modern entertainment that seeks to divide the audience as much as possible. Beloved movie and tv shows have been utterly destroyed by this agenda of divisiveness recently. There are too many to mention by name although I've already mentioned one of them above. Its almost as if someone is ordering creators to make the most divisive entertainment imaginable. This would certainly be in line with the wider world, especially in politics, which has seen increasing division recently. Whatever happened to making universal stories that resonate with everyone?

People should ask themselves why creators are making such divisive content and whether they want to continue to fund this practice. The best art will always reflect the hope inherent in the human experience, no matter how dark our experiences on this planet may appear at times. The first game has hope as the core emotion. The sequel doesn't resonate on a deeper, visceral level as its bereft of hope. That's why I think if people were honest with themselves they would realise the majority of praise for the game is only intellectual in nature.

I won't be buying a PS5 after playing this game and I certainly won't be buying any other Naughty Dog game in the future. If this is the future of gaming then I'm out.

Naughty Dog used to be one of the best game developers in the industry. It really is a shame to see how far they've fallen under the leadership of Neil Druckmann. He has close ties with Anita Sarkisian (anti-gamer) and you can tell she played a major influence in this game. When it comes to The Last of Us Part II, it's some of the worst story telling from all games prior.

The only positive I could think of while playing The Last of Us II was how amazing the graphics are, but it's the epitome of proof graphics are not everything to make a good game.

Reviewers are right to compare this with Game of Thrones season 8, because that is where it falls in line in terms of story and character development. Not only do the characters from the original TLOU do things that are totally out of character all to move the plot along, but what happens to them is disrespectful and infuriating. It is not joke to say the story is not only a slap in the face to the fans, but a hard hitting nuke to head with Druckmann pissing agenda on the ashes (Yes, it's that bad!).

Aside from story, the gameplay is average at best, and mediocre at worst. While the original The Last of Us was ground breaking in terms of gameplay and story, it's a game that is now six years old! Part II does nothing groundbreaking from it's predecessor, and feels very last generation with very little to offer. It is a tedious exploration going from one area to the next, fighting hordes of enemies over and over only to have another cinematic with characters I care nothing about. After a while I just want to stop playing The Last of Us II altogether, and move onto something more enjoyable like God of War.

I truly believe with Niel Druckmann at the helm it will be the end of Naughty Dog after playing The Last of Us II. I feel terrible for the employees that work under him, their blood, sweat, and tears for an oppressive manager like Niel will only bring morale down within the company. Hopefully ND will realize the mistake they made with Niel and beg for Amy Hennig to come back to take the reigns again. It is wishful thinking, but it's going to be sad from here on out knowing how my once favorite developer has fallen from grace solely for an agenda they want to force down upon others, and gamers are the ones who lose because of it.

So, don't be fooled by the name of the franchise: Part 1 was great thanks to former golden-era game director Bruce Straley; sheer genius not only on this franchise but all across the board of ND's most emblematic games as well.

Sadly, he's now long gone from ND, a departure that has exposed the fraud behind the game direction of Part 2 big time.

Add to the recipe the mayor lead talent who quit ND too due to unacceptable working conditions, and the consequences are easily predictable: ND's golden years are over, it has become a sinking ship of a studio.

The only thing great about this game: the soundtrack, nothing more.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I will start off my review by saying that I had very high expectations from a sequel to one of the best games of all time. The Last of Us is a harrowing story about loss set in a post apocalyptic world and it was the work of wonderful people like Amy Henning and Bruce Straley. The fact that they did not return and that Amy was forced out of the company already should've rung alarm bells for everyone. But despite that, i took my chance.

    And was utterly disappointed.

Let me start off by listing the few positives of this game. The combat has improved, and the world looks beautiful and immersive, which is fair game and expected from the developer of Unchartered 4. That's the only reason it gets 2 stars from me.

But the story. My God, the story is a dumpster fire. It's like someone wrote down words from excrement and plastered it into the script.

The whole point is, the story itself has so many loopholes with little logic and the characters act so out of tone with what they are and have been established as in the first game that it can only be tantamount to lazy writing.

Take Joel's death, that meetup with Abby does not even feel organic (it's a random hit in with runners). Next, the fact that Joel saves Abby from runners and still is brutally tortured to death by her with utter disregard for saving her life completely throws one off completely. It's like the writer chose shock value over basic common sense to kill Joel off in the first 2 hours of the game!

In the first game, Joel could tell someone was faking help and was extremely wary. How does Neil Druckman expect us to believe Joel would go out of character and just lower his guard and walk into a room armed full of people from another country and tell them his own identity? The man was wanted over the country for his massacre of the Fireflies and Naughty Dog expects us to forget that? Also, how could Abby ascertain this was the only Joel they were looking for?

The plot holes are as big as quantum singularities aka blackholes and it's not even the beginning.

After shamelessly killing off one of video games most beloved character in such a disgusting fashion (the golf memes are on point), Neil Druckman forces us to step into the shoes of the killer, Abby, and tries to force feed us "the other side" from her perspective. To further add salt to our wounds, a self insert of Druckman spits on Joel's body and hurls abuses at him. I understand you had to let Joel off, but atleast do it in a respectable way! Like some self sacrifice that was how it was done by Rockstar brilliantly in Red Dead Redemption or Arthur Morgan in RDR 2.

The game also retcons Joel's decision and tries to show us he was wrong, when in the first game even the Fireflies knew that all previous attempts at creating a vaccine using live test subjects had failed. And it tries to literally show to us that Joel was the villain, when in effect he was a man who did not want to lose another daughter to a slim chance.

Let's move on, Ellie then goes on a revenge quest, and massacres a huge number of folk along the way. The vast majority of the game displays us this gore and violence over and over again that it becomes numbing and nauseating. The game is bleak just cause it wants to show it is bleak and not because there is some method to madness or grand design. It doesn't gasp for air at all save in momentary flashbacks.

The player visibly feels enraged and wants Joel to be avenged by partaking in this violence through Ellie but then in the very end, Neil Druckman completely forces us to accept the one choice of NOT KILLING ABBY all in the name of "cycle of revenge is bad". The fact that this was so badly done and ham fisted is what has enraged folks rightly.

The fact that Red Dead Redemption 2 and God of War did themes on revenge better than the Last of Us is utterly shocking and disappointing. At least Naughty Dog should have let the player take the choice of killing Abby or not but the fact they force fed us this hogwash is what has drawn fans of the game into righteous rage. What was the whole point of revenge and showing violence if it was all bad? That whole spell of violence Ellie does is rendered useless in a single epiphany. Ellie loses everything and gains nothing, rather than projecting violence and revenge is bad, the game actually ends up making a strong case for it!

This ending and the way the game pans out really what has driven fans on the edge. This is worse than GoT season 8 and Star wars. The reaction is justified and Neil Druckman will be called out and face a backlash for this dumpster fire of a video game.

In the first Last of Us, Ellie tells us the her fear was to end up left alone. The game ends on this note, her fingers bitten off in the final fight with Abby, her partner Dina has left her, her protector Joel is dead. It was, to quote the first game "really all for nothing".

This is the first time I have ever given a 0. Who would ever think that what started as one of the greatest franchises ever made with TLOU1 would end up in the drain like this.

I am one of the victims of knowing the spoilers before getting the game and was terribly sad to hear it, as I waited in excitement for 7 years to see my favorite characters joel and ellie again, maybe taking on the virus situation, and seeing their relationship grow more and the story progress, possibly finding out more about the world and infected etcetera, the leaks were terrible and I knew they were real, but I still wanted to give the game a fair chance, while all my friends were already full on hating and saying they're not gonna buy the game and that I shouldnt either, I still wanted to try it first anyway, I loved the first game so much, I couldn't not try it.

However, sadly the leaks are as said, and it is actually worse, I never thought this could be possible, I thought even if I didn't like what they did with the story at least I would still enjoy the game at least for whats left, but I didn't.. The whole experience I was not feeling it, its not like its predecessor, the first game flowed so well and the characters drew you in so easily, it felt realistic and relatable, the story was perfectly paced, here almost everything is the total opposite, I ended up forcing myself to keep playing as I was losing interest early on, then when the dreaded moments from the leaks came into play I just literally despised it, not in a good way like when you hate a movie character because it is played so geniously evil by the actor, but i hated naughty dog, i hate what they have done to this wonderful game, i am all for lgbt, and equality dont get me wrong, i dont mind transexuals or gays nothing, it doesnt matter what someones prefference is or love interest, but you added and forced so many things in this game to the point its not even about the orignal story anymore but something totally different, almost like spinoff. The writing is terrible.

WHY do you have to include and force this narrative into a story that had NOTHING TO DO with that, sacrificing everything people loved about the first game to make a point, it was about survival, about characters we loved, Joel and Ellie, Joel having such a rough life and but staying strong through all the crap he experienced, meeting ellie, slowly growing to love her as his own daughter, this was wonderful, we wanted MORE OF THIS. It didnt matter that ellie was a lesbian, it wouldnt even matter if joel was gay, do you get it?! but you made the whole sequel focus on this subject, it suddenly has nothing to do with the apocalyptic world and the virus anymore, it just DOES NOT make any sense, it turns into an lgbt driven story about "hate" obviously white male hate and straight hate, Joel.. One of the greatest characters of all time who went through so much, had to be sacrificed for this?? I expected that joel would die in part II, im fine with that, but this? this is SO forced and does not make any sense, it doesnt feel natural like how the story in 1 felt, in the last of us 1 everything felt like it was really just happening as you went on, it was written perfectly, here you just know its forced, it feels like they HAD to include this. They just killed him because hes a strong male. YES JOEL WAS A STRONG STRAIGHT MALE, so what?? He was a good example of a father figure, a strong man who protects his loved ones, who WENT THROUGH SO MAN AWFUL EVENTS BUT STAYED STRONG. I hoped for something like where Joel was Old and now Ellie had to protect him, and that maybe he would die in another way n ellies hands or something, something emotional that we'd love bittersweet. What you did is totally destroy all the potential of a wonderful sequel. The new character is also NOT a good example at all and feels totally forced, its just ridiculous, and actually offensive to the lgbt community.

WHY the heck did naughty dog let Druckman do this? Why was he not removed at some point by the ceo? Kojima did not deserve to be removed from MGS but Neil Druckman sure did. It's ja slap in the face for all the fans. You let Druckman burn a whole franchise to the ground and turn all the fans who loved the first game against you, let that sink in Naughty Dog... You let him do this so you are also responsible. If all of that wasn't enough yet afterwards you restrict YouTubes talking about the game or giving honest reviews, AND paying for high ratings at review outlets to make sure the game still sells well even if it means deceiving fans. This is unacceptable and you went from my favorite developer to my most hated in a matter of days. I will never buy your games again. Unless maybe you fire Neil Druckman and make a public apology to the fans. Fans have taken **** from developers long enough, but this takes the cake, you get the award for most effed up destructions of a game in gaming history.

For game that's heavily based on story narrative, it is filled with plot holes and moronic decisions. Spoiler but if you were looking for an Ellie and Joel team play you will be sorry. Not only does Ellie and Joel not interact with each other but Joel dies 2 hours into the game by a new protagonist Abby. In which the game makes you play 14 hours as this character trying to make you feel sympathetic, how can you feel sympathetic when Joel saved Abby's life from a horde of Clickers only to be brutally murdered at abbys hands but it's okay it's a Revenge story remember, you know that you're going to kill Abby in the end right. Well you would be wrong not only do you not get a choice to kill her but after killing hundreds if not thousands of people to get to her at the very end you get an epiphany that you shouldn't kill her because revenge is bad. And that's just a story.

Characters are bland two dimensional personality, there was little to no character development at all. This was a real disappointment considering ln The Last of Us 1 had a lot of character building it really put you into the story made you feel immersed into the environment when the protagonist was hurt you felt it when the protagonist was feeling Joy you felt it. This game however felt as if it was trying way too hard to achieve something that was just not there. It has left me more angry and frustrated then any other emotion.

Gameplay was better than the last of us 1 however due to the story I just could not enjoy it and is why my score for gameplay is 7 out of 10, there's nothing really overly new besides two new enemies and a jump mechanic that's laughably horrible.

Graphics are the only selling point I could give this game, it looks absolutely amazing seeing how the world being overtaken by Nature is just jaw dropping and can be arguably next gen graphics or the absolute pinnacle of PlayStation 4.

All that combined with relatively mediocre monotonous gameplay mechanics, made it a drag to get through and largely upsetting through most of the game. Unlike the first game there are no silver linings throughout the story that greatly contributed to the enjoyment of the original Last of Us, as it also carried a lot of weight. There's little to no feel good moments past the first hour or so of the game; all melancholic or upsetting. Combine this with new largely un-relatable characters, it's easy to wish they didn't make this game and left the first game to it's own. This game would have been better suited as either a spin-off or a standalone title; it's really that different from it's origins. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really didn't want it to come to this but here we are. Naughty Dog betrayed everything the main characters of the first game ever stood for with how they handled the story for this game. First lets talk about Joel. He never once behaved in any way in the first game that would lead us to believe he would ever be stupid enough to give his name to complete strangers! especially after the ending of the first game which effectively makes him a wanted man! Then the way they rub his death in your face only to immediately force you to play as his killer. Abby is not a likable or relatable character. Ever vile violent act she commits she gets more and more pleasure from while Ellie is genuinely disgusted with some of the thing's she's forced to do. I don't situationally forced I mean narratively forced. So much of the writing in this games appears to be done deliberately for maximum shock value and nothing else. Joels death was incredibly contrived and obvious in it's intent and none of the stories attempts to make Abby in any way likeable succeeded she feels worse and worse to play as time goes on. Some of the decisions characters make defy all logic and reason and simply serve to further the story at the cost of virtually all players agency. I'm not going to go over the graphics, VO work or the music because I knew all of those would be amazing and they where. The gameplay hasn't evolved much in seven years of development which is a shame but I was fine with the gameplay in the first game and I'm fine with it here. The reasons people bought this game was the story and the story is incredibly disappointing in every way. I'm going to erase this game from my memory and happily live with the self imposed lie that TLOU had no sequel. Because not having another game at all would still be better than this. Expand

Why I can't stop thinking that this game is another example of female empowering and LGBT support gone wrong?

BTW I do have respect for female empowering and LGBT community.

I believe what TLoR got it's popularity is mainly because of its story.
I understand their agenda of revenge and break the chain of blood/revenge. And I understand someone's justice can be tragic for someone. But it DOESN'T have to place that in second part of TLoR where the the main theme of first game story is based on post-apocalypse survival of two who have father and daughter like relationship.

It does not necessary to have this kinda of agenda into second part by TRASHING the first part.

Progressive? Bold Move? They could have done this in 3rd part of LoTR or fresh installment where ellie and joel is not part of it.

Killing Joel too early in the game without much of character development and story development just for shock of audience to make players feel bad for killing npc delivered horribly wrong. Therefore I just cannot focus on game anymore.

I believe the Neil want to have feminism incorporate in the game so he need to kill of male protagonist. And end up two female protagonists.

Why they didn't make abby male protagonist? With that kinda of physical body, it would be perfectly fine to use male protagonist. But they did not because of feminism they wanted to include in the game.

I feel like players are just for social experiment for female empowering and LGBT things.

I don't mind having lesbian protagonist and female protagonist as long as story is good. But this story is just BS. Just feel like i'm in social experiment that Neil decided to conduct for 2020 just like Hollywood movie where female empowering and LGBT things going on.

I felt like action of the NPC spat on Joel's dead body is exactly same as Neil Druckmann spat on first TLoR's dead body. You just killed that first TLoR like that and humiliate those who loved frist TLoR.
And lastly, false advertising from the trailer just made me mad even more.

At the end, Ellie being alone not even with Dina anymore, why even bother to use title of The Last of Us? Because you save two people at the end? The is more like The Last of Me.

I just finished The Last of Us 2 an hour ago. My immediate reaction: Wow! What a work of art!

A lot of thought and care went into this game. There are so many little details producing such a realistic world, that over the last 19 days, when I wasn’t playing the game, images of the game would come to mind and elicit emotions, and I’d have to remind myself I wasn’t thinking about the real world.

Without spoilers, I want to talk about what makes this an amazing game.

The gameplay is an improvement over TLoU(1). The different items and tech trees are more intuitive, and cleverly distributed among characters. The choices about what to upgrade are interesting. When comparing notes with a friend, he upgraded things I didn’t, which means different players will have different experiences. The movement of the NPC’s, and how they interact with the environment are amazingly realistic. A very welcome improvement is the ability to go prone. In addition to adding a new challenge during puzzles, this adds to effectives of stealth movement.

The music is beautiful and hauntingly evocative. At times I found myself feeling anxious or relieved and I’d realize it was because of the background music. One sequence in particular using Take On Me is so beautifully done that it brought tears to my eyes.

I don’t know if there are industry awards for video game voice casting, but Christine Haas Korkosz should be nominated for them. The chosen actors truly bring these characters to life. In particular, the actor voicing Owen was outstanding. This character could have easily been a caricature, but Patrick Fugit brings this supporting character to life with humor, angst and hope, improving all the other characters he interacts with.

The visuals in TLoU2 are almost worth the cost of purchase on their own. Some scenes and moments were so beautiful they made me gasp and want to linger longer than the game allowed. This is no small feat, to convey such wonder, joy, and beauty in a video game.

So much thought and detail went into the creation of this world. I noticed, early on in the game that there was a crock pot in a bathroom. I thought, at first, “Why would there be a crock pot in the bathroom?” Then I realized, if there was no running gas for that house, they’d need to heat the water with something electric for a warm bath. In an abandoned apartment with a D&D set up in the living room, it was a wonderful surprise to see the (realistic) setup for miniature painting in another room. These tiny details are easy to miss, but contribute to making this world real.

Sound effects can hurt a game if they’re weak, or are “invisible” if they’re good. In this case, they’re perfect. You’re talking to another character and they turn a corner without you? Then that other character’s words become muffled. You’re too close to an explosion? Sound is muted and you get a ringing in your ears. You’re trying to move in water? Your movements creates a quiet sloshing sound. Every action has a realistic sound reaction.

The common thread I’ve seen among the negative reviews is that TLoU2 has a “weak” story with “plot holes”. It’s clear now to me that these reviewers didn’t actually play the game. While I can understand why some people might be SADDENED by events in the game, that doesn’t make it a weak story.

When I think about what I want in entertainment, the common denominator is that I want something new and different. I don’t want to see the same things over and over again. When I see a movie and can guess early on how it’s going to end, that’s a mark of poor writing.

I want to be stimulated. Surprised. And I want to feel some kind of connection to the characters. The Last of Us 2 accomplishes all this. This game made my heart race with adrenaline and anxiety. It made me gasp, flinch, care about the characters, and yes, even cry at times. The structure of the story was masterful with revelatory scenes carefully placed. While there are surprises, none of them are out of character. This is a well-told story.

While I find it hard to call anything “perfect”, this game comes close. I do have 2 “areas of improvement”:

    1) The sound leveling. Several times during the game with loud background noise, the characters’ speech was sometimes soft. This resulted in me missing part of a joke, or part of a backstory, which frustrated me.

    2) The length of the game. The game went on just a little too long. To a degree, I understand. This was an in-depth story and it was important to experience different events to show the growth, evolution, and interaction of the characters. I just wish there was maybe one less battle, or maybe a little more tightly edited cut-scene.

The Last of Us 2 is a masterpiece. I cannot imagine getting a better value for my entertainment dollar. Naughty Dog deserves to be proud of what they have accomplished.

The game had stunning graphics, great sound, good game play, but the things that made it one of the best games on the platform was the beauty of the level designs and above that the magnificent story-line involving two of main characters with their struggle to survive. It breaks my heart to write this, but I really did not expect such a poor story after all these years of waiting. While there were a few genuinely good moments, majority of game filled up with plot holes. It just took elements of what worked for the first game without understanding what made them compelling.Absolute disrespect towards the 1st game. The story and the characters are so horribly written that it doesn't even make me angry anymore, just sad.

Neil tries to be Hideo Kojima but his attempt fails big time with awful story...

It's not the game we all expected but it trully delivers a Dark and filled with plot twists story with the most emotional endings of all time in the videogame industry. A Masterpiece and absolutely the game of the generation!

I had to rate this game as low as possible despite my great love for the original due mainly to the extremely confused narrative the game told, it was like the writers and developers didn't know what story they wanted to tell. I have played the game through twice already so that I could build up a reasonable opinion of it. The game begins with a brutal display of Joel being tortured (not murdered, tortured) by the new character Abby, while her friends gleefully hold audience to her actions. This visceral image I assume is meant to make us feel connected to Ellie's mission of revenge. The story then follows Ellie slowly taking her revenge, what we see of Abby and her friends on Ellie's journey does not endear us to them, Jordan the first one you encounter seems all to happy to cause Ellie pain, then you encounter Nora who also seems all to happy to mock Ellie about Joel's death. Abby and her friends exude a sense of moral superiority that is entirely undeserved and appear remorseless in their actions. At about the mid point we jump characters and begin playing as Abby, we backtrack to the beginning of Abby's story I assume so that we can understand her motivations. Unfortunately despite understanding Abby's motivations they're a few if any redeemable features about her and her friends. Playing through her story we see that she works for an organisation that seems cruel and sadistic in nature, happily torturing their enemies. Her friends continue to exude that moral superiority, even the ones who seem to have some redeeming feature continue to act as though they are the arbiters of fate and it is their place to pass judgement and hand out sentences of torture (not death). So where Ellie's story plays as one of emotional distress at the course of revenge she has taken, Abby's seems to play as though there is no conflict in anything she has done. This is where my confusion at the story comes from what do the writers want from us, do you want to us to like Abby and her friends more, then perhaps they should have shown more moral conflict or perhaps questioned themselves and their actions more, which Ellie seems to do in her story. The other option would have been to expose us to Abby and her friends seperate to what they did and allow us to like them and care about them then show us what they did. Do they want us to hate Abby and her friends more, make Ellie's quest feel more justified, really that doesn't make sense then Abby's story and playing as her is unnecessary, people hate her initially from the beginning from their first exposure to her. Is making Abby and her friends seem more unlikeable all about making Ellie and the choice she makes at the end of the game more powerful and make her seem like the better person than Abby? So what is the story you want to tell writers and what is the journey you want us to go on? Some of the journal entries in Ellie's story and a few of scenes flashing in Ellie's mind at the conclusion of the game seem to be about Ellie, realising her wanting revenge against Abby is more about Ellie feeling bad for the way her relationship with Joel was before his death and that revenge doesn't give her any closure. If this is the story you wanted to tell again, why did we follow Abby's story at all, if it's about Ellie coming to a realisation why didn't we follow Ellie for the entirety of the game and see her wrestle more with her choices and actually reach that realisation with her. This is something that the sequel is lacking that the original had, you went on a journey and you felt connected and you reached and understood the conclusion that was made in the first this didn't happen at all in a part 2. Are you trying to tell a story of how revenge and violence can take everything away from you, this would make sense given the epilogue where Ellie returns to an empty house alone, and unable to properly play the guitar, loosing an important connection she had to Joel. Again if this was the case then Ellie shouldn't have come to any realisations, really it would have been more poetic for her to kill Abby get her revenge to return home and realise then she has nothing and that her quest took everything from her. The other lacking area this game had is the close relationship between 2 characters. While the first you followed Joel and Ellie for easily 80% of the game, you had interplay and banter, and saw a relationship grow this was lacking in this game. All the partner characters were only with you for a short period, you never spent anywhere near the time with another character as Ellie and Joel spent together in the first game. I think an ongoing partner character to play off of Ellie throughout the missions would made the narrative stronger.
Following this very large negative I will say some positives, visuals are amazing, gameplay is amazing, basically everything in this game but the narrative (the strength of the narrative in the first game is what made it great) is good.

The story has some flaws like while playing as Abby a pregnant woman known as Mel goes on a mission with Abby which doesn’t make sense or realistic. And Abby’s team is okay with it. My biggest complaint is about Abby body build in a zombie apocalypse how can u get a big biceps with less supplies around the world. the game play was great bought back some old gameplay mechanics from prequel and some new ones after sometime it gets repetitive. Epic gameplay and graphics, but the story...
    Just disappointing, specially the end.
Couldn’t feel empathy for the antagonist.
    I tried so bad, but I couldn’t.

Im trying to be neutral, first of all as most people know this game is well known because of its father and daughter relationship in the middle of this zombie apocalypse, ND did a really good job, people expect to be experiencing that kind of story at least, they already hype when they see joel in the trailer. But ND decided to kill one of the most important character that they buld ver very hard in the first game. Its ok to kill him but at least make it more heroic. And the way ND force us to play the person who kill joel is a great way to show us a different perspective, but for me it is not enough to make me empathize about her. The ending is pretty good although it is not the ending i want, if we can see more of ellie and joel relationship in the beginning where it can bring back the father and daughter we have been looking for, maybe the ending is going to be more acceptable. To sum it up, im just hoping joel death to be good and meaningful and more emotional so it can always attach to our hearts just like when Arthur die in rdr 2. For the rest of it i give it 10000/10, from graphic, face motion capture, gameplay, sound, environment and the characters development from ellie side. Expand

Played it from start to finish despite the leaks because of how big of a fan of the first game i am... and it took me over a week. I just didnt want to continue after you started to play as abby. It has nothing to do with her unrealistic ridiculous arms or female strength.. its bad storytelling and a slap in the face coupled with false advertisement. They put cutscenes into the trailers that were never in the games to make us think it was joel and ellie part 2, which in reality was the first 5 minutes.

Graphics and gameplay are great, really great, but the storytelling and unlikeable fake and predictable characters make it unplayable. I would not recommend this game to anybody... 1/10

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
