I've never experienced such a story that pulled your in every direction. The negativity about this game is appealing. If you don't like it, fine, but going after these people because of the story they crated (not you) is just childish. I hope there will be more to this story in the future and honestly want to see both Abby and Ellie's story.

The story line was kind of weak, in my eyes, and not executed in a way that allowed me to feel any emotional investment or payoff. The story can be described as "realistic" I suppose, but there were so many contradictory moments; were the writers that lazy, or were they really trying to pass a C+ movie off as a game?

Story line aside, the fighting mechanics were fun albeit repetitive and a little silly at times. Dodging and having a prone position were beneficial additions to the game, and yet players still crafted the basic items from the first game (molotov, shiv, med kit, bomb) with the same play style. The upgrades and skill trees were pretty pointless in the end, which was frustrating because we spent so much time gathering those resources only to find out that you may not even need to fight at all (running to the next cutscene). It would be nice if there wasn't always a "whew, I think that's it" dialogue prompt to state that you killed all the enemies in the area. That felt a little campy for a game that was trying to have a story line that was as realistic as possible. Lastly, the game did feel about 5 hours too long. The more time dragged on, the less attention we put into reading notes and enjoying the environment, because the story line became the linear spine of the game.

The music was well enjoyed through the levels, and the graphics were beautiful, which I'm sure most people agree with, so there isn't much more to say on that. All politics aside, and just taking the game for face value, it was okay, but I didn't enjoy it as much as the first and I wouldn't enjoy replaying it. Also, I hope multiplayer comes out, because that was my favorite aspect of the first.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all: I can understand that people dislike the Game!

I finished the game today and for me ist is a masterpiece! Here is why:

Ellie, Ellie, Ellie! That Girl is so badass! i really enjoyed here seeking for revenge and here romance with Dina it all makes here so human (maybe more then some gamers nowadays can handle?)
I hated to see Joel dying that early in the Game but thats the only thing i really dislike. Ok, maybe i wanted to jump off the roof with abby when i was forced to play her in the second half of the Game but that is what makes the Game so awesome. You have to get over that anger and try to understand what she did (btw i still hate her). It really broke my heart when i had to fight and nearly kill Ellie with her but i still felt glad that Ellie spared her life in the very End. She finally was able to make a cut and move on. I really hope they develop a 3rd Game and Ellie finds back to Dina and JJ, they are both her family and the only way she finds love and peace in the End.

If you want a game that really gives you unforgetable Memorys and feelings this one is a must-buy.
For me the best Single Player experience since years.

I have just finished the game and I am left with a sense of emptiness and frustration. For someone who had TLoU part 1 dearly in his heart, and who could not wait for the part 2 to come out, I have to say the experience was a punch in the guts.

Taking all that melodrama apart, and after thinking with a clear head how would I rate this game is that not even the amazing graphics, extremely enjoyable game play and mechanics and the enormous appreciation for the level of detail in this game is enough to counterweight the really big flaw of the story, the character development, the order of the events and the unnecessary forced ideologies.

For Christ sake we the fans grew to love the connection that was developed between Joel and Ellie and within the first two hours of the second game you take that completely away. All the character development of Joel being a survivor is flushed into the toilet...

This game deserves all the praise for the people that took care about the animations, the graphics, the cut-scenes, the mechanics and the gameplay. Naughty dog has a quality signature in this regard.

However a big and I mean BIG failure this time was on the narrative and the story telling.

It is heartbreaking that such an amazing story from part one was completely ruined by the second part, and that this is pretty much unfixable. I now look at the story in a negative light.... Heck I am not even excited for the show being produced by HBO. Not anymore.

This story is going to leave you questioning who is the bad guy in this story. It's a story of cliche revenge, but takes a unique perspective on it. I finished the game feeling unsatisfied, yet content. The story does come to an end, but not how I wanted it, nor how I expected it. The game jumps 4 years since Joel saved Ellie in the hospital in Utah, and fills in that gap through out the game with flashbacks. Some of them are really endearing and enjoyable while others leave more to be wanted.

The Gameplay hasn't changed pretty much at all from the first one. Not the most robust controls in this era of gaming, but the thing about Naughty Dog games isn't ever the Gameplay. It's the stories they tell. It's still a little clunky, but nothing difficult to work with. If you hated the gameplay and don't want more of that then I'd recommend passing on it, but I recommend it to experience the story alone.

This is not a perfect game by any means, but the story will make you ask questions and leave you thinking. In that Naughty Dog executed wonderfully. I haven't played a game that's made me feel so many feelings in a game. I was happy, sad, angry, and frustrated. It was a wonderful experience.

I have never played a game like TLoU2 before and I truly believe it deserves all the praise game journalists seemed to have handed out so willingly prior to release! It is a masterpiece, beautiful and emotional. It is not perfect, but it gets very close and will re-define narrative interactive storytelling in video games for years to come.

When I put down the controller after more than 35h of focused gameplay, I was speechless and in awe of what the Naughty Dog team and the excellent cast around Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, and Troy Baker have created. Even now I struggle to find the right words to describe the experience. It was a constant emotional rollercoaster ride: up, down, up, down, further down and a little bit up again. It’s a dark and brutal game. I laughed, I cried (a lot). I felt guilt, desperation, fear, anger, hate, but also hope.

The STORYTELLING is superb. I never expected to become so invested in Ellie’s story. Don’t get me wrong, I always knew she was going to be the main character. But seeing her unhinge like that and spiral deeper and deeper into darkness on her quest for revenge really got to me. After all, Ellie was the innocent one in the first game. Putting the player knowingly into the shoes of her antagonist for a considerable portion of the game was a bold move by the creators, but it paid off in my opinion. TLoU2 impressively depicts that nothing is either black or white and no one is only good or evil. There are no heroes in this game and no villains. The game is about revenge, yes. But it is also about love and forgiveness. It is as ambiguous as its predecessor. And much more divisive in the delivery of the major plot points.

I loved the GAMEPLAY. There is rarely a break in immersion when transitioning to cutscenes. More than once I was still pressing buttons without realizing the cutscene was already underway. The gameplay is much more diverse and full of options than ever experienced in a ND game before. Whether you choose stealth or go in guns blazing (if the resource situation permits) or do something in-between – everything is possible. Prone movement, dodge button, and that guitar mechanic are gold!

GRAPHICS are as good as it can possibly get on the PS4 system. The visual presentation of the game is absolutely beautiful and stunning, starting with the animation of facial expressions and movement to building this atmospheric, densely packed post-apocalyptic world! Can’t wait to see how the game looks on PS5!

The AUDIO DESIGN is perfect. I played with my headphones on and the dimensionality of the sound when turning with my character into different directions was amazing. As for the SOUNDTRACK – sparse and reduced to a minimum in both instruments and notes – it just always works really well. My highlight was the acoustic version of “Take on me”. Ashley Johnson, you can sing to me any time!

    REGARDING HATERS:
With that being said, the quality of graphics, gameplay, and sound alone justify a rating of 5/10 for this game. I have read several of the very negative reviews to better understand what the issue is and in all cases people were very disappointed with the story in general and the first 2-3h of the game in particular. Let me tell you this, haters: Being disappointed with the story, but praising technical aspects of the game at the same time does not justify a 0/10 (or slightly better) rating! Grow up, learn how to reflect and gain some perspective, stop skipping cutscenes and stop watching someone else online play the game for you!

    WHAT ELSE:
If you consider to buy/play TLoU2, you should know that this is not a happy game. It is dark and brutal and you will feel tons of differing, often negative emotions. And that is okay! You are supposed to. The story is not linear and not all answers are immediately delivered to you. You will need patience. You will need to keep an open mind about the story and watch it slowly unfold in front of you. And finally, when you’re still sitting there staring at your TV screen long after the credits rolled, reflecting on what you have just experienced, you will likely come to realize THE LAST OF US PART II is a masterpiece, a stellar example of interactive storytelling, and my game of the generation. 10/10!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really wanted this game to be good, and I defended it before it came out. Now I just feel like an idiot for having spent 60$ on it. The SJW agenda is immense, and it absolutely does detract from the story. Gratuitous lesbian sex scenes along with completely unrelated storyline about a persecuted transgender character that clogs up hours of the game.

But that's not even why the game isn't fun. The combat is better than it was in the last game by far, but the writing is so self absorbed that it forgot it was a video game. You will barely be able to play it because the game keeps taking you out of the action to show you hourlong flashback sequences about characters you despise, but the writer thinks you should care about. The relationship between Joel and Elle in the first game developed naturally over the course of the campaign, while this story immediately goes "here is Dina, a bisexual Jewish woman who can tell you about the holocaust, please like her"

The pacing is the worst I've ever experienced in a game, and it makes the idea of a second playthrough torturous. Dont make the same mistake I did. Go buy a different game that's actually fun.

Some games transcend genre, and "The Last of Us II" is one of those games. "Survival Horror/Survival Action" is not typically on my radar. I'm an RPG and sports game guy, but when a huge game like this comes along, I usually give it a shot. I played the first installment in this series on last gen, and I liked it a lot, but I don't remember liking it as much as "The Last of Us II".
    STORY:
Somehow, Naughty Dog is able to go out of its way to be more "inclusive" than a junior college brochure without being obnoxious. I fell in love with all of the protagonists, and in the final analysis, the individuality and humanity of each character shone through enough to make me forget any intent of the writers to try to check all of the politically correct racial, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, etc boxes. That's quite an accomplishment in itself, and puts the focus of the story where it should be in my opinion: to make the audience identify with the characters, or at least feel what the characters feel. When that happens, the importance of group identity falls by the wayside, and the common humanity within all of us becomes the focus.
    GAMEPLAY:
This game kept me always feeling like I was just a bit under-practiced and under-prepared for the combat I was facing, which I suppose is what the survival genre is supposed to feel like. The controls are intuitive, the game plays very smoothly with minimal glitches, and I always felt challenged and engaged.
    GRAPHICS/SOUND:
I'm not much of a graphics snob, but in my humble opinion, this game is BEAUTIFUL. Again, minimal glitches. It's obvious that an incredible amount of care and attention to detail was put into the creation of this world. The score in this game is excellent: as I'm looking back on it, I "felt" it more than I noticed it, and that's a high compliment in my book. The choice of soundtrack and the performances of the songs were just right. A few memorable ones, some of them tear-jerkers.
    OVERALL THOUGHTS
This game is not perfect. It's a video game. However, it's close enough to perfect that it might as well be. I can't imagine a much better product being made with current hardware. There are certain small gripes I have with this game that are mostly just part and parcel of the genre that this game belongs to. However, this game is more than just a survival game in the same way that "There Will Be Blood" is more than just a movie about an oil man.
"The Last of Us II" made me enjoy doing some things I thought I wouldn't enjoy, appreciate some things I thought I'd cringe at, and feel some things I didn't expect a game could make me feel.
If that doesn't sound appealing, then you probably shouldn't buy this game.
How this game could have an average user score of 5.3 at the writing of this review is beyond me. Like I said, I'm not deep in the world of this genre or this IP, so maybe most fans of the original were expecting something completely different. Regardless of their expectations, to not have a healthy respect for the sheer quality of craftsmanship this game displays is puzzling to me.

I can say that is a good game, graphics, music, ambient, everything in the game is so wonderful, I'm impressed with the entire work of Naughty Dog. Taking part with the story, I think that is a good way to show the humanity in his entire point of view, because you can get there and try to revenge one of your loved ones... But it's difficult to make it, this game makes me think about and I love the final decision. The only thing that I feel so disgusting at the beginning, is the change of character at the middle of the game because restart my character progress and it forces to complete that, many difficult to get used with Abby, but at the end you can realize without problems.

First of all I'm a big fan of the Uncharted series and the first game so I started this game thinking it would be another masterpiece. But this is not a story that you expect or wish for after playing The Last Of Us part I. In my opinion there isn't even a story. You just go to a city to take revenge on someone because that someone took revenge. That is the story. The game makes you love certain people, but also tries to let you hate them. Other people you hate, you are forced to love. Naughty Dog tried something different and for me they failed. They made a game that you don't like to play but it will keep you locked to your screen for almost 25 hours. In the second part of the game you just hope that it will soon be over so you can go back to what you think is the main story. Sadly enough that second part is half the game. So I loved the first 10 hours, was bored during the next 10 and ultimately I was depressed during the last 5. So if you are looking for a beautiful, well-made game with a non existing story that will give such intense feelings (good and bad) that you end up with a depression afterwards: buy The Last Of Us Part II Expand

The Last Of Us Part 2 really earns that "Part 2" in the title, being less of a sequel and more of a continuation of the original, building on both the story and mechanics of the previous game for an incredibly engaging experience.

    To rattle off some bits;

-This game is dense with content, with a length probably twice that of the previous game. Despite this, I never felt that things were dragging on for too long or inundated with filler.

-The controls have been pleasantly polished, feeling less stiff than the original. They even added a dodge which comes in handy when dealing with infected. Like the original, the shooting feels great, and all the guns have a satisfying punch to them.

-Environments are a lot less linear now, with a smattering of optional side paths, encounters, and puzzles.

-The puzzles have been expanded on in terms of variety from the first game, with more platforming, rope swinging, and window breaking. The shiv doors from the original have been replaced with the previously mentioned optional puzzles as well as safes with codes hidden in the environment, so don't worry about using shivs this time around.

-Upgrading your weapons and abilities have gone through a sort of switch. Gone are tool boxes, so all weapon upgrades are available from the start (so long as you have enough scrap), but now you need magazines to get more ability upgrades. I'd say this is an improvement because you need a bench to upgrade a weapon (and there aren't that many benches), while you can upgrade abilities anywhere.

-Stealth has also been expanded, with tall grass being an option when trying to hide from human enemies. If you do get spotted, you can always run, as human enemies will lose track of you if you break line of sight (clickers not so much). You can also go prone, which I dismissed at first but found surprisingly useful when trying to get around ranged foes.

-I'll avoid spoilers, but the narrative is really engaging overall and does a good job of getting you in the head-space of who you're playing as and see where they're coming from. Be warned, this game goes to some dark, heart wrenching places, but leaves you with a lot to think about.

-This would be a 10/10, but I docked a point because the first zone of the game after the tutorial is this free roaming section that feels a bit too slow compared to the rest of the game, which I think could make a bad first impression (looking at you Pat). There are also a few too many walking sections that could have been cut down, but that's a minor gripe against an overall fantastic game.

    - I also miss the multiplayer ( ; A ; )

If you really enjoyed the first game, I'd highly suggest you pick this one up.

So many parts of it seemed forced, focusing on telling a revenge story rather than the characters personality. They make decisions out of character. Some writers ask how will their characters react to situations and go from there, others have a situation / goal and make the characters fit it even if it goes against the characters personality. This is the later. Having said this, other parts were great. Wish a different game or a different story had been told using the same assets & characters. Expand

He played at a high level, but it felt like a simple one. For me, the world of this game has remained only in the first part. The worst thing is that if Sony continues to maintain such a policy, then perhaps we should fear for the continuation of other excellent titles. People must learn the difference between not liking a story because it differs from your expectations, and not liking it because its badly written.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You introduce a new character by having them KILL one beloved character right in the first 30 minutes of the game, and then you force us to play as them for dozens of hours... Aren't you guys supposed to sell copies of this? Am I missing something? You made this in order to profit, right?

    This story is a mess.
It goes back and forth with the timeline. That wouldn't be needed if it was done right.

The players wanted to see what happened to Joel and Ellie after the first game.
They knew that they were headed to Jackson, are we were expecting to see something more during their time in Jackson.
Instead of that, we only get a few drawings and words written in Ellie's diary about some previous events that happened in Jackson, and we also get a beloved character with their skull smashed with a golf club in the first 30 minutes of the game, which could be avoided if the writers didn't make the character DUMB and kept it as they were before.

Funny thing about this, is that Naughty Dog needed to have some of their fans to explain why certain characters did certain actions, when THEY should be the ones to do that, by explaining it IN THE GAME.

    [spoiler] :
Abby smashed Joel's skull with a golf club. Abby didn't know how Joel looked like, but knew his first and last name, his age and where he was.
Joel never trusted anybody in the first game and refused to tell his name. In this game, he tells his name in the middle of a group of dozens of people, knowing how many people he has killed in the past.
This is not an "accident". They've made Joel dumb.
The worst part is, many people justify this as "this is what happened when Joel let his guard down".

    This is laughable.

The best part of the story, is the flashbacks (which is around 2 or 3 hours of gameplay). The rest just feels "meh" and predictable. You could tell where the story was going after Joel's death.
The writers made us think that this story would be ground-breaking, and it was you typical revenge story, expect, in the end, you don't kill the villain (for some reason).

For a game that relies heavily on story, the most important part of the game is truly disappointing.

Now let's talk about the rest.
    - The graphics are gorgeous (as expected)
    - The audio is top notch
    - The actors did a tremendous job, despite people not liking certain characters, You can't deny that. Really well done.
    - The accessbility options are something that, hopefully, will become a standard from now on
    - The gameplay is the same as the previous game. There's nothing new to it, besides new weapons and a jump button (which you'll only use it 2 or 3 times because you have to)

There's nothing in the game that makes it a 10/10 game.

It's fun to shoot and kill people and zombies, take photos with the in-game Photo Mode, but that's it.

"Revenge is a fool's game" - You don't need to spend your money on this game to find out something that you could've found out in 2018. Save your money and spend it on things that you really need, specially in these though times.

Until about 18 hours in I was completely hooked with the immersive story. I loved the character development and my emotional connection with them as the story progressed made me care about what was going on and who was doing what. I am mature enough to accept the openly gay relationship between main characters in the story for what it is and I have to say that the sensitivity in which the script is handled is excellent.
Combat is both brilliant and disastrous. When it works, the gun battles are awesome with limited ammo forcing you to adapt a defensive strategy while picking off foes one at a time. The melee attacks become epic as you unlock the ability to upgrade weapons rendering the on-screen violence quite impactful emotionally. It is an 18 rated game, so if you don’t like violence, don’t buy it.
Sadly as the game progressed into the second half of the story, I quickly lost patience and interest in the story line. I was forced into playing characters that I, initially, cared very little about and I was effectively forced into relearning whole sets of skills that I had already spent hours honing in the first half of the game, only to have to do it all again albeit with slight tweaks to the weapons and skill-trees. Being forced to walk around in now familiar venues having conversations and looking at utter tat in the environment for the sake of developing the second leg of the story really frustrated me. Huge Yawn.
The other irritation throughout the game is one which many titles with NPCs suffer from, the NPCs constantly get in your way. The frequency in which NPCs would push in front of me when trying to position myself at the edge of a wall to ambush an enemy was a joke. I tried bludgeoning the NPCs from time to time but to no effect. It’s a lesson for all developers. If you must place NPCs in a game, for goodness sake keep them out the way or allow the player to beat them senseless for being stupid morons.
In the final few hours the story jumps repeatedly from one flashback to another and for me the game became the definition of tedium. At this stage of the game the already irksome combat controls became a real hassle, probably because I had stopped caring and I just wanted it to end. When pushed into tight spaces with large numbers of foes, the combat mechanics seriously lets the game down. I couldn’t find any method of locking on to a target during melee and when you dodge a foe, you have to manually swing the camera around to find them again which sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t and often I’d lose the upper hand simply because the mechanics were too slow and too cumbersome to actually achieve what I wanted to achieve. Slow and poorly designed weapon selection mechanics added further to the problem and it became unnecessarily frustrating in an otherwise extremely well polished title.
In the final third of the game, Naughty Dog's vision started to win me over. I didn't agree with all their story-board choices but the immersive play forced me to start caring about other main characters as much as Ellie and some genuine morally-charged themes left me thinking about the game long after the credits stopped rolling.

To me, the first game was a certified 10 out of 10, no questions asked. Truly one my favorite games ever, both on PS3 and PS4. I never felt that the game needed any type of sequel. If anything, a prequel showing Joel's journey from Texas to Boston would have been a great idea, seeing his falling out with Tommy and his bond with Tess.

Anyways, I was very excited for Part II despite feeling the game just wasn't necessary. Overall, I felt myself finally getting sucked into the story as playing as Ellie and her journey throughout Seattle. But this attachment to the story started to fade when Abby's story was the main focus for the second half of the game. I just never felt that interested in her story or the side characters involved in her plot.

To me, that's the biggest reason why I gave this game an 8: the story. It just didn't captivate me the same way the first part did. Everything else like the gameplay, the looting, crafting, graphics, sound, atmosphere...it's all there. The story just wasn't that interesting to me at the end of the day. And because of that, I really don't have a desire to replay it anytime soon.

I lost track of how many times I played through the first Last of Us, and maybe I will revisit Part II some day on the PS5, but the story was just a mess at times and kept breaking any momentum I felt. It's still a marvel to think about in terms of game design and everything, but to me, it's not a 10 or even a 9 out of 10. Still a very good game and one that people should experience for themselves, but to go from one of the best stories in all of gaming to what I experienced this time, it just was a let down in my opinion.

I think maybe if the focus was heavily on Abby from the jump to build that attachment and momentum, I might find differently. But I enjoyed playing as Ellie and seeing those flashbacks with Joel.

Excited to see what Naughty Dog does next though.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm not someone that ever writes reviews for games, so i think the fact that I'm taking the time to write this speaks of itself a little bit. The last of us was my favourite game, I loved the characters and I loved the complexities of their stories and personalities. The first game questioned the morals of all the groups encountered and provided some insight into Joel's history and implied his grey moral area. Joel was not a hero, he was just the protagonist. When he dies in part 2, I had to pause the game to stop myself from having a full blown panic attack, and my vision was blurry from rage. I wanted Abby to die immediately and painfully, but by the end of the game, I desperately did not want Ellie to kill her. I've never had a game not only consider the morals of the "villain" but then completely change my viewpoint and empathy. The story wasn't about revenge against Abby anyway, she was a distraction for ours and Ellie's grief and turmoil. Ellie hadn't forgiven Joel for the fireflies, and he died before she could so her emotions was redirected to killing Abby. I don't think she was out of character. I also don't think the plot holes were nearly as bad as some people think they are. The characters made "stupid" decisions because they are written as human beings, who, shockingly, make stupid decisions! I'm not saying its a perfect game, and if you didn't like it then you're well within your right, but I do feel sorry for you that you can't appreciate this game for what it is. Expand

Okay, so I think I finally understand this game. It's not just meant to pander to SJWs and trigger incels. It's a story coming from a group of developers that hate the company they work for and the industry they are in. They are trying to point out the hypocrisy of anyone that gives this game 10/10 or hates on it's female protagonists. Joel represents the popular culture of the past. Abby represents popular culture today. Ellie is their hope for the future. They want us to leave all this hate behind and make something new for ourselves. It's sad not just because of what the characters went through in this game, but what the devs went through to make it. This is a work of art from suffering artists. If you played through this whole game and only love or hate it because of the plot in this game world, then I'm sorry to say but you just got punked so the devs could make a point before collecting their bonus and leaving the company. The Last of Us Part 2 is a brilliant follow up to the first game's themes of loss, grief and acceptance. Its ending, while divisive ihints at a far brighter future for Ellie through her independence from Joel. If you enjoyed the first game's narrative, you'll enjoy the second game's book ends. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a die hard fan of the first game I was heartbroken when Joel died. My heart sank. But this game shows that life in a post apocalyptic world is not all ponies and roses, it’s a nightmare. It shows you that there’s a price to pay for revenge and the actions you take. But I believe that the way they told the story could have been better. They shouldn’t have killed Joel so soon in the game and at least tried to make Abby a more bearable character. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First thing to say: im not a native speaker of the english language, so if i make some mistakes, forgive me. now with the rate:

The game have very good graphics, and lovely designed ambients, it makes you feel lost even if you're always progressing in a tunnel, the character design is pretty good, and the great thing 'bout it is that every female character looks feminine without being a beauty stereotipe, and the mechanics are more or less the same with the previous game, even if the addition of the dodge move adds some variety on the bare hand combat,(even if makes it quite simple to figure it out and break the mechanic expecially in one on one situations) for what concern the story and the general internet rant about the excessive presence of sjw topics, i totally disagree, we knew that Ellie likes women since the Dlc of the first game, so no big deal (you cant say that it was forced in the game) and for what concern the character of Lev i found it quite well written, because the reason of his/her decision seemed to me more like a rebellion against his/her clan, than an lgbt thing: to me looked more or less like Mulan, ( and she was asian too) so if we axcept it from Disney we can axcept it also from Naughty Dog,
Now bout the ending, to me it was OBVIOUS that the game didnt want you to kill Abbie but wants you to sympathize with her traumas and the loss of her father, the game wants you to see that Abbie and Ellie are 2 faces of the same coin, the product of times of terror and atrocities, and how is simple to lose yourself and to lose the ones you love, im my opinion it was a great message to give to people.
I have some little points that i didnt liked or in my opinion could be emphatized more:
    - spend a lil more time to show the progression of the hate between Mel and Abbie (maybe with some lil flashback)
-make a playable section of some of Ellies nightmares while she 's in the farm with Dina, to let u feel the urgency of find and Kill Abbie the last time
-Avoid the Playable last boss fight or make it less long, and bring some more talkative content (im my opinion the game should have finished with them taking different boats without punchin eachother)
i really dont understand all the hate by the community, you all should buy it and enjoy.
JUST BECAUSE THE STORY DOESNT END THE WAY YOU WANTED IT DOESNT MEAN THAT THE GAME IS BAD!

Affection for the “The Last of Us” remains so strong as to leave any successor labelled unworthy. Its characters were uncommonly human and complex for the medium. Its characters were uncommonly human and complex for the medium. Dialogue was naturalistic and subtle. Normally in games, nothing is withheld—it’s all agonisingly surface-level. TLOU respected its audience, both expecting and requiring their patience, in a way which for its time felt fresh. Part II shares many of its predecessor’s strengths. That said, side-characters are sidelined, archetypical, and generally less interesting than in Part I. Leads, too, are less immediately likeable. Ellie is damaged, quasi-mute, carrying trauma which extinguishes her fiery spirit. Her co-lead is stoic and gritty—vulnerable but only if you’re listening closely. The game’s story is more structurally daring than Part I’s, and will appeal to fewer sensibilities. It occupies a vision of the future even crueller and more nihilistic than before. Characters’ monstrousness takes centre stage—moments of tenderness are fewer and further between. Violence is considerably more explicit and rendered in greater detail and more frequency. Gameplay is an astonishing improvement. TLOU was a game in which the player crouched behind waist-high boxes and tried to ignore their allied NPC noisily sprinting around under enemy’s noses. Stealth is now tight, tense, and convincing. Encounters are drawn out across enormous maps, and sometimes for up to ten minutes. There’s less tactical variety than a game like MGSV. But this was much better at making me use every option presented. You will be required to constantly switch between weapons, keep moving and improvise. The game takes a little while to find its feet—it took until Hillcrest for me, which is several hours in—but has a knockout second half with some memorable encounters. It’s a surprisingly long game—and one which arguably outstays its welcome. But I started through again from the beginning straight away. One niggle: ammo and items are less scarce. The game is a little too generous by default, but this setting and others can be adjusted in a comprehensive difficulty menu. It won’t please everyone—but like TLOU1, the fact it’s not trying to is probably the best thing about it. AAA games are so synonymous with artistic cowardice that it’s refreshing whenever any big-budget fare which could be considered disagreeable comes along. Without debates provoked by unique games like this, the whole thing would stagnate. Expand

Gameplay was great, but the story could have definitely been better. I don’t mind the events that happen, I guess. What I mind is the decision making of how the game/story goes as you progress further into the story. Everyone brought their A game clearly. Except for whoever decided this was the best story they could tell.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I finished the first The Las of Us back in 2013, it left me with a bittersweet taste, I guess for everyone. We knew it wasn't a happy ending at all.The game calls Joel's morale into question, however he and Ellie gain our affection.

This sequel plays more with morale and perspective on the situation, in theory, so that our opinion is broader and not just supportive of one character. However this is a dirty move, this tactic only creates a conflict within us.

At the end of the campaign I feel mentally broken, sentimentally bad, with a desolate ending. Yes, I learned more about revenge and forgiveness, the consequences of decisions, and how the world is still a place where the strongest survive, where there seems to be no good or bad.

Only a couple of moments didn't quite convince me, and the little weight of the music (compared to the first title) were the bad details to highlight. Must Play.

It's a game that requires you to think and question the beliefs and assumptions you have coming into it. It's a story that takes a lot of risks. If there's something specific you wanted out of this game, you may not like it as much as me. If you can't keep an open mind or you're just a bigot you might even be on here giving the game a zero. The game isn't perfect in every respect and has some jarring transitions in story and gameplay near the middle portion. You may not even "like" this game. It isn't "fun" the way some other games are. It filled me with a sickening sense of dread at the fate or actions of my favorite characters. There will be painful moments where you watch characters make decisions you don't agree with. But the game isn't made for you to like it or to be traditionally enjoyable. It isn't a game that cashed in on the latest trends or played it safe to reach the broadest audience. It's a game that was made to get a point across and make you think about what's important to you. And by the credits I had no doubt that it had accomplished that goal. That's the mark of a true work of art. I can't ask for anything more than that. Expand

It makes you think about violence, and the futility of that violence, to a greater degree than any game I have ever played. I've found myself thinking about the game a lot (and feeling slightly depressed - not that the game is over, but about the story of the game itself).

A note about the negative reviews - look at how many people created profiles just to pan this game. How many of these are multiple reviews by the same troll? Also, how could they have played the entire game on 19 June, the date of many of the negative reviews AND the release date for the game.

Expand

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
