First of all i am writing this review because of all the unwarranted criticism this game is getting.I thought if people write reviews without having played the game just because it is cool to hate this game, I can also write a review praising it for how good it is.
    After playing this i did not know i actually wanted a sequel. I am absolutely glad of the direction it took because in this way it is even more unique and fresh than what it could've been if Naughty Dog went with a safer approach. This story is brutal and shocking. This is a clear departure from the easier to swallow formula of the first game which focused on a wonderful relationship while it still explored the dark depths of humanity that are revealed by the coming of the virus. This goes all the way into the darkest depths of character study. The plot is set in motion by Joel's death which comes very early into the game and while expecting it, it still managed to surprise me. This is a brutal undignified death that further explores the dark state of the world. It also launches Ellie's brutal revenge story in motion. The game departs from the Ellie we know from the first one. We see a more mature version of her and we observe as she slowly loses her established humanity piece by piece in her obsession with revenge . The game also wants you to see the game in this first half through her eyes antagonizing the group responsible for Joel's death making it easier to connect with Ellie's struggle.In the second half of the game we play as a new character named Abby who is responsible for brutally murdering Joel in the beginning of the game. I was intrigued by this narrative choice and I was curious to see if the game would be effective with such a twist in perception. It is in my opinion a brilliant design choice that further enhances the story suggesting the message that in such a depressing world it is all a matter of perspective. We see Abby's relationships and friendships akin to what we see in Ellie's part of the story. And as the game slowly shifts to Abby's perspective you start to see Ellie as the villain. All of this further enhances in my opinion the idea that the game tries to convey. It wants to depress you, make you feel desperate as if you are a part of the lifeless world that it represents. I can totally understand why some people cannot appreciate this shift of narrative because of the passion they had for the first game which still is from a narrative standpoint a masterpiece. I do not agree with the clearly fake reviews that nitpick at the game simply because it's cool using arguments such as an nonexistent political agenda that apparently is behind the game. I can also not understand the people who stopped playing after Joel died. So in conclusion this game is absolutely unique and fresh and further illustrates the power of immersion videogames have achieved. It is also a bleak character study that explores humanity's most primitive and overpowering desires    … Expand

    Played the game the day it came out..Didn't see any spoilers before playing as well... Loved playing it..the ending was perfect for this game. The graphics were awesome... game play was a but different from last game....enjoyed it a lot.

    Es una digna secuela del producto original y uno de los mejores juegos de la generación. Gameplay impecable y una historia emocional, emotiva y cruda. No es un juego para débiles y es completamente una introducción desgarradora al mundo de Ellie 5 años después de haber tenido la oportunidad que Joel le arrebató para salvar a la humanidad.     Before you hate this game, you will need to finish the game. The story is a perfect contrast of the first game. Writers take risk and it pays off. Every action has consequences.     A solid 8/10 from me. Although I like part 1 more, I still had a lot of fun playing part two. My only point of complaint is that I wish we could play as Ellie a bit more. That and the story pacing felt a bit off. I dont like when the story jumps left and right in forms of flashbacks. I am not a fun of it. But other then that, a very solid game.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a masterpiece and milestone in gaming. This is not even an overstatement. The gameplay and graphics are state of the art. And the story is an extremely powerful, grim, groundbreaking, and heartbreaking (in a good way) tale of hate, violence, revenge, and moral conundrums. I felt Ellie's pain when Joel was killed. I felt her rage too. I wanted to get to Abby and kill her as much as any player. But then the game made me see Abby's perspective, for which I was not ready. I did not want to play as her, but I didn't have any option. But then as the story progressed, I got to know her story, her motivations, and her pain. I was still team Ellie, but empathized with Abby too. And understood how Ellie was the clear villain in Abby's story. It takes balls to do what Naughty Dog did with this game. And they did justice to the sequel and the first game. The ending breaks your heart. And would probably haunt me for some time.… Expand

    Fantastic game and story. Powerful, emotional, and thought provoking. Definitely a case of you should play before giving an opinion unless you don't like violence then that's ok if you don't wanna play, but not "I heard something happens that I don't like so F this game. No one play it! It's awful even though I have no context!"

    Depois de 30 Horas jogadas cheguei ao Fim do Game e posso Falar , foi a melhor experiência em jogo que já tive , a Princípio fiquei aborrecido com alguns acontecimentos mas o jogo ele coloca você na pele de Ellie para que sinta todas as Sensações Humanas , Se pudesse daria nota 1000.

The plot is really hard to make player swallow, but it's not because the quality, it's because the game made player face the side we all want to ignore and forget, and refuse to let the audience escape the painful truth of the world.     The Last Of US Part II is almost a perfect game with a very brave story. It has a great soundtrack, and stunning performances. Amazing ghrapichs, and atmosphere, and great gameplay. iti s worth playing

    Cormac Mccarthy-esque in execution. I don't think I've experienced a story as soul destroying and enthralling since Berserk or The Road. Revenge always ruins lives and costs more than one could imagine the could lose along the way. Brilliant acting and motion capture. Amazing graphics and combat/stealth mechanic s. HBO has their work cut out for them to adapt this.

    Honestly I was mad at what happens, but just as mad as certain characters. But then I tried to understand why these characters were doing what they were doing. It was not about me but actually about them and understanding these decisions. What happens at the ending was also bad for me. But then I wanted to see what it really meant. And I honestly loved it.

    I am a HUGE fan of The Last of Us, and was absolutely terrified to play this game due to all the rage I saw online before it's release. I avoided all spoilers and was able to play the game fresh, and found that although I could completely understand the upset - THAT WAS THE WHOLE POINT. The game achieved what it wanted to do, make us mad, revengeful, hateful, and then it masterfully,I am a HUGE fan of The Last of Us, and was absolutely terrified to play this game due to all the rage I saw online before it's release. I avoided all spoilers and was able to play the game fresh, and found that although I could completely understand the upset - THAT WAS THE WHOLE POINT. The game achieved what it wanted to do, make us mad, revengeful, hateful, and then it masterfully, through carefully crafted story telling, makes you do what you never thought you could after that fateful moment - have empathy.

    The other comments I see is about the LGBT themes this game has. I despise PC culture personally, and I was shocked to find that this rage, for once, was unfounded. This is a game that finally DOES NOT shove it in your face and simply makes this a part of these characters, not their entire character arc like most media unfortunately seems to hone in on.

    The game play was fantastic, the story kept me on edge throughout its entirety, and the graphics were the best Naughty Dog has ever produced.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us was one of my absolute favorite games ever. So naturally I was excited to play Part 2 when it was announced. I hate spoilers so I avoided any and all trailers, reviews and leaks and it paid off. The Last of Us Part 2 surpassed the first and was a fantastic story and game. I can understand the feelings of some people being upset with events that happened in the story that Naughty Dog delivered but to me it was amazing. I was connected to Joel and what happened to him was gut wrenching and tragic and you want the people responsible to pay. However ND creates conflict in you by putting you in control of Abby and you get to see a great character development driven story. She’s not this evil, revenge driven brat that you originally thought and it’s so good. I was extremely happy with the outcome. Sure I miss Joel, but he is not absent from the game. I highly recommend it after you play the first. Don’t judge it before you play it, which is what most people are doing on here. It’s worth the time and money to see such a great story with great characters. And just like Game of Thrones, don’t get too attached to anyone.… Expand

    Este juego me encanto, las emociones que te dejan, querer matar a un personaje y después amarlo, odiar al protagonista. Es algo que ningún otro juego se atrevería hacer, esta es un juego bastante realista y la mejor versión de como un apocalipsis zombie se desarrollaría a largo plazo. Sin duda uno de los mejores juegos de este año.

    I beat the game in 32 hours in a long weekend and I have to say: yes, it is not what I was expecting, yes, it sometimes can feel too long and yes, some twists are brutal.... but... this is THE LAST OF US 2. Epic in every way possible.
    Thanks Naughty Dog for doing this, I can't imagine anybody out there taking this risk and doing it with this care. Don't stop.

    First off, Joel is an Anti-hero. The first game was NEVER wholly Joel's story and he was not some beloved character. This ain't Disney. He was a deeply flawed man that made a choice that had severe consequences. He created a vicious cycle with the choices he made. Part 2, even with having to play Abby, was a beautifully told story with super strong themes. Yes, the gameplay was sometimes repetitive and not perfect, but the STORY is, in my honest opinion, a masterpiece. I honestly believe this.

    I didn't hate Abby. It was made clear that these two (Ellie and Abby), in another life, could have been very very good friends. We had 2 protagonists and 2 antagonists. As for Joel; this is how life goes. Joel didn't die a magnificent death, and if you thought he should have, then you haven't been playing and understanding how the world of the Last of Us works. Majority of people don't get to die gloriously; look at every other death in the game -no matter the character. Death is sudden and always unexpected, and it's still miserably hard even when it's not.

    The Last of Us 2 is NOT a bad game. People who think this game is bad just because Joel dies or dies commonly can't see the whole picture, or simply don't care to dig deeper to understand and accept it. It's not a revenge story. It's a story about love, hate, loss, and letting go in order to begin healing. It's about grief. And it hits so damn hard. It's about figuring out what it's like to lose parts of yourself and learning how to heal and cope with that. It's about choosing to end a very viscous cycle of selfishness.

    On the highest difficulty to me, even with the tedious flashbacks, the gameplay was a solid 7.5/10 for me. I had FUN. The story, however, was a 10/10. It wrecked me. Well done, Naughty Dog. I don't know about the plans for DLC or if there will be future installments, but you bet your bottom dollar I will be one of the ones to purchase whatever is to come.    … Expand

    To the people that have finished the game, the most powerful object/symbol in the story was the guitar and I always think of Joel when Ellie holds and plays it. Her singing Take on me was surreal
    as the lyrics fit perfectly in Ellie's situation.
    The thing that hit me deep was Ellie walking away from that guitar.. the last thing that reminded her of Joel. The memory of Joel is what kept her on the path of revenge, which lead to more pain and loss. She finally came to terms with it and leaves Joel behind. It was such a sad moment but beautifully done.    … Expand

    It is actually a normal game, but it's not deserve so low user score. My truly score is about 7/10. There are many inconsistencies in the plot, to which I personally did not particularly pay attention. From the middle of the game, you start to get tired and try to run the game faster. And then you stop noticing a wonderful study of locations. But the first half of the game is beautiful.

The gameplay has vastly improved since the first game while retaining the formula that made the first game successful. The graphics are gorgeous, it feels less clunky, but by adding bigger environments that can sometimes appear to be a semi-open world, it can become more tedious for the average casual gamer. Although you definitely don’t have to spend the majority of the time looting, if that’s is how you want to play, it’s good having the option, and the rewards for playing like a completionist, which are very good this time around. The violence is tough to watch and to experience, but that is absolutely the point. At several times, I had to stop playing the game and take a pause several times because it is pretty tiring and deals with a lot of heavy themes.

    The story is by far the most controversial aspect of this game. People have grown to love and respect these characters, and while I get why a lot of people don’t like this game, it is Naughty Dog’s game and these are their characters. Everyone involved in the making of this game knows the characters, and their motivations for doing what they do, a lot better than the average player and I’m completely convinced they didn’t betray the characters in any way. Joel was a very distrustful character who had done a lot of bad things until he met Ellie, who ended up changing the way Joel is, making him more compassionate. Living in Jackson has softened both Ellie and Joel, they have become more trustful and are bringing people to Jackson all the time. The moment when Joel dies you can see by the expression in his face he was thinking “I let myself trust these people and this is what I get”.
    People seem to not be understanding that they don’t have ownership of these characters, who are as imperfect and ever-changing as any person in the real world. It felt horrible when Joel died, it felt horrible when you had to play as Abby after seeing what she had done, it felt awful when you had to beat the living **** out of Ellie. I hated doing those things, but that doesn’t mean that the game is bad. When watching this kind of “mature” media, you have to accept that bad things can happen, and in a post-apocalyptic world, they probably WILL happen. These events help the characters grow and develop in ways we hadn’t seen before. If people wanted the characters to stay as they were, they probably should just stick to playing Part 1.

    This game managed to make me feel different about a person I absolutely abhorred, by showing you their side of the story, and most importantly, their motivations. Both Ellie and Abby do horrible things in the memory of someone they loved. Mid-way though the game, Abby starts to become a Joel-type character. A person who has been horribly hurt who starts doing bad things until she finds a better purpose in helping other people who need it (In Abby’s case it was Lev, and in Joel’s case it was Ellie). People are saying the ending is anticlimactic, but I think it actually shows the most character development I’ve ever seen in a game. It helped destroy the cycle of violence and revenge that had been taking place. The only way Ellie was able to do this, was by forgiving Abby, otherwise, the cycle of revenge and violence would have just continued when Lev recovered and realized what Ellie had done to Abby, but when Ellie came to the realization that this was Joel’s story all over again, only this time it was another person, she decided to stop, giving the player a sense of closure and realization. I felt like I got a life lesson out of this game. By keeping an open mind and not closing yourself to what you think SHOULD happen, and just experiencing what DID happen you can experience a masterpiece in storytelling that can affect your life in a positive way. This is one of my favorite games, I didn’t enjoy the game, but I still believe it is one of the greatest pieces of media I have ever seen and played and I, personally, would recommend this game to anyone who wants to experience an amazing story with twists at every turn. It contains a lot of symbolisms and touching moments, if your are open to them. You won’t feel great playing this game, but you can appreciate the lessons it leaves you with and the care that was put into making such a complicated and engaging story. I will definitely remember this game for years to come and don’t regret playing it in any way. It was an absolutely stunning game that elevated the medium in nearly every conceivable way. There was no need for a sequel as the narrative ended on such a poignant moment of universal insight and reflection, that to attempt a sequel would risk destroying that prior accomplishment.

    Naughty Dog went ahead and developed a sequel regardless. While Part 1 was "The Road", Part II is The Last of Us by way of "Blood Meridian or the Evening Redness in the West". It stands as the single most unrelenting nihilistic narrative I've ever experienced, and will likely ever experience, in the medium. The game will not please everyone, but the first title didn't offer a traditionally satisfying narrative either. The developers seemingly wallow in misery, but do so with a clear purpose. Many other reviewers here have marked the title down (some illegitimate, far fewer who have actually played the game to completion) because of the punches this game refuses to pull. They are experiencing the stages of grief. Their reviews exist as funeral pyres for fictitious characters they thought deserved better. I don't disagree that some of these characters deserved better. I would have liked to believe that there was light in the darkness. That's not the narrative that is being told here. It hurts.

    This is not the game many people wanted to play. Neil Druckmann has crafted a fetid existential wasteland of the soul. This does not mean this is a bad game. It's truly a remarkable accomplishment on every front.     As a die hard fan of this series it confuses me the hate for this game. There are people on both sides either loving or hating the game for it story which is quite controversial. The game at its core is amazing. They have a truly polished game with not a single bug in my play through. You’ll get about 35-40 hours on this depending on your play style. For me I like to look through everything and take my time so it was towards 40 hours. The mechanics that they have added don’t take away from what the first game had, but instead add extra layers of how to approach combat. And the combat in this game is brutal. It’s not for the faint hearted because this will show everything. Using a shotgun or sniper will take limbs off. Melee combat flows incredible well with the dodge they’ve implemented and makes melee combat something to look forward to rather than a last resort. Level design has taken a step up and the levels are larger and have much to explore adding some extra playtime and replay ability on. This game takes what the first had and improves on most aspects. Including the graphics. The first game was the most stunning game on ps3 as it was towards the end of its time and with this I have to say it’s one of the most stunning for ps4. Every aspect of this game is crystal clear and made to a standard you can’t fault

    Now the story. The story is something that’s hard to pin. You have the first game which had such a carefully crafted story focused on Joel and Ellie and it was made to convey a certain message about the building of their relationship. This game is about revenge and hate and hurting. These themes are very different and normally turn out to be a bad ending or some uncomfortable moments in the story. I loved this story. It had me in tears by the end and and although is wasn’t a “happy ending” it’s exactly the way it should’ve ended. The last of us 1 had a unsettling ending and this game stays true to that. And I feel because of this people have decided to bomb the game since it doesn’t end the way they wanted it to and leaves a lasting impact on you. This game has some flaws like the mid game can seem to make the game slow down a bit and I started to have some problems but most of those ironed out by completing the game and understanding the rest of the story as a whole.
    I give this game an honest 9.5/10. It’s an fantastic beautifully crafted game that everyone should play and try before forming a judgment or taking anyone else’s. Including mine. Play it and decide for yourself.    … Expand

The game its not perfect I think at some point the game mechanics started to be more like ugh why do have to this atfain. ? The lack of choices during during some important moments like killing certain characters should had been a player choice And change the course of the game making a different endings. Spoilers next be aware.

    Example of that could be when playing Abby kill Ellie or when playing Ellie have the choice to kill Abby. Same goes for the characters you encounter during the gameplay like Jesse, Yara, Mel, Owen even Lev.

    Another thought it's Ellie immunity, virus and infection was left behind like it's not important. With that said this game its an amazing experience I enjoy it every minute.    … Expand

    Definitely an unforgettable experience. The storytelling was very smart and brave and the game overall was brilliantly crafted. You can’t become angry at the plot because It didn’t give you the ending you wanted, instead you should try to keep an open-mind and experience what is given to you. This perspective will make you much more satisfied and happy both in the game and in real life.

    TLOU 1 is one of my favorite games of all time, and I am glad to say that the sequel improves upon the original in almost every way. Some people will love the story, others will hate it. Everyone owes themselves the chance to find out.

    No es un "mal juego", no esta ni cerca de ese termino. Es un juego increíble, algo que le da inicio a una nueva era de jugabilidad, de gráficos, de historias. Las personas ya están acostumbradas a la tipifica historia feliz, que haces lo que querías y se acabo, sin siquiera saber el trasfondo de lo que lograste y de lo que conlleva hacer todo lo que haces o haz hecho.

    Ellie no es como Joel, no es el personaje que hace mil cosas sin siquiera pensar, sin siquiera tener sentimientos. Así es el caso de Ellie, quien siempre tenía sentimientos, quien siempre sufría por alguna rezón y se la hacía difícil hacer las cosas.

    Pero bueno, oh hay muchas opciones, no lo jugaron ni por cerca o no lo entendieron en lo mas mínimo el juego.

After completing this for the first time I can say with absolute conviction that this is a defining game for this generation of console. Probably the most I have enjoyed any game on the ps4. 10/10

    Simply a work of art in every sense, Very well programmed, very well musicalized, the audio mix is excellent (The only thing I missed was the sound of the flashlight on the joystick) the art in general, the color palette, the lighting , everything is very well cared for, it shows that they did it with a lot of love.

    It is a game that addresses very current social issues, although most can see it as revenge, on the way you can see all the thoughts and possibilities that those involved pass through, making it very human and full of feelings.

    Graphics, gameplay, sound, and the acting/animations were amazing; top-notch. Those alone make this game worth playing. I personally loved the story because of the roller coaster of emotions I felt during the game, and most forms of media just don't do that for me. This made it a very special experience, and I think everyone should give the game a try.     The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
