I really love TLOU, but TLOU2 is a shame to this series. 10 in total, I’ll give 1 for Joel, -9 for sh*tty story and racism towards Asian.

The storyline it's really good but it has it's flaw's, there's a lot of the story that tend to depend on the imagination of the player and their own perspective and that's a great thing but it can also be bad.
I understand that this game divides opinions personally I Think that the player has to be consumed by all kind of emotions and Bravo you nailed to cause a void in my heart.

One of the best games I've ever played, just as good as the first part. The story was very touching and authentic. Real people make bad choices, good and bad are not universal and depend on the angle. I enjoyed every bit including the ending. Just need to keep an open mind and emphasize with your character, then everything ties in together nicely.

Graphics are stunning, audio is top notch, gameplay is similar to first part but feels more polished and immersive. Even the load screens are quite optimized and the game reloads fast enough when you die.

My wife also enjoyed watching me play, she's not a gamer but loved the story. I'd say that's a huge approval vote. 10/10 would buy it again!

This game totally worked for me. The story is exciting and just adding the dodging and crawl mechanics were enough to change the gameplay completely and make it very exciting and immersive. I love the last of us 1 and the second one was just as good if not better! It’s a gut-wrenching story but pretty great once you get over “yunno”.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. THIS GAME IS NOT A REVENGE STORY!
Yes it may seem that way but the story is really about learning to let go even though it hurts. In the end, Ellie made the difficult choice that Joel should’ve made in the first game and made peace with death. Not her death but the death of the one she loved most, Joel. If Joel would’ve let Ellie be the cure for mankind then he wouldn’t have to worry about vengeful people out to get him. What Joel did instead was compromise the lives of everyone to save the person he loves which is Ellie. His actions were understandable but morally gray at best and in this game Ellie has to deal with what happened to Joel, why it happened, and not only forgive Joel but let Abby go even though it hurts.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TLoU2 is by far one of the most impressive games I've ever played, both technically and narratively. The gameplay is fluid and brutal and a massive improvement on the predecessor. The visuals and attention to detail is constantly stunning. The openness of areas was fantastic and allowed multiple approaches to feel valid when engaging in combat whether it be stealth, all out ordinance, or a mixture of the two.

The violence of the gameplay is gutwrenching, entirely by design. If it makes you feel uncomfortable then it's working as intended. The violence very much is designed to interweave and complement the plot of the story.

    ----Spoilers ahead----
As many know at this point Joel is murdered brutally within the first few hours of the game by a character named Abby. This appears to be the most controversial aspect of the game because... reasons. But I personally found this to be narrative genius. This is a gutwrenching moment that the player is able to experience with as much raw hate and loss as Ellie. We want to track down this Abby person. We want Ellie to succeed in getting retributive justice. But as we play, we see the damage this violence is doing to her mental health. We see the pain and suffering imposed to those around her. We see the people we are killing have names, loved ones, friends. As we play staying alive, pushing on, our quest gets harder and harder, until it finally breaks both us and Ellie when she reaches her antagonist. Then the true narrative genius occurs (unfortunately by nature of spoilers and the internet the plot twist is undercut) but now we play as the villain we've all been hating up to this point. The game asks us to walk a mile in the shoes of our enemy. Wait she also has lost someone dear to her. Wait she also is just seeking justice. Wait am I the bad guy? Is Ellie the bad guy? Is Joel the bad guy? Wait I remember that person, that dog. I stabbed them in the neck and watched them bleed to death. **** they have friends and family. This is very much a social experiment that many will not be interested in or willing to approach. Many video games use guns, weapons, and violence as a gameplay mechanic to make something fun. TLOU uses it as a tool to push its story a long. They want us to question why we take joy out of this. I found Abby's storyline to be a very interesting character piece. Many seem to be turned off by the "randomness" of it with the introduction of the seraphites and Lev's storyline, but I found them incredibly important stories. For one, Abby's plotline is an exact foil to Ellie's. Rather than taking vengeance Abby begins to find empathy. She begins to understand the "other" are still people just doing what they think is right. That shades of grey exist in the world. Yes, she still commits acts of unspeakable violence/murder but in this world that is the status quo. Its kill or be killed, but nonethless she makes the choice to walk away from it. She has the opportunity to kill Ellie and Dinah, to take an eye for an eye, especially given that Dinah is pregnant, just like Mel was. But in that moment she stops. She remembers the emptiness, the bitter nothingness killing Joel brought her. An eye for an eye only makes the world go blind. So she spares them. The game finally ends exploring how Ellie remains traumatized and broken by everything that has happened. We have to remember this is someone who has only ever experienced violence and a fungal apocalypse. She has mental illness both visually apparent and explicitly mentioned in her notes. She is not capable of making rational decisions and thus goes after Abby again, but this time finds a beaten, empty husk of the person she hated who has been exposed to months of torture by a gang of sex traffickers (?) in California. The ending is a grotesquely beautiful mixture of cinematic gameplay that leaves you as a player resenting yourself being behind the controller only for at the final moments for Ellie to finally come to terms with what she has done and what she is doing, what Abby and the players learned along the way. As Ellie sees her reflection in the water (ironically enough Abby's submerged head) Ellie realizes this isn't the way. That killing Abby will not solve her problems. It's a bittersweet ending that at a glance may feel meaningless, but the emotional takeaway, the realization of the damage both of these women experienced is a compelling look at human weakness and growth.

This game is not for everyone. If you cannot stomach explicit violence or are unwilling to look at what is intended to be a piece of art with a critical yet objective eye you will not enjoy this game. Treat TLOU2 like a bittersweet oscar film, one that isn't meant to have a happy ending, but is meant to be an interrogative look at the human condition in all its ugliness. In that effort I think TLOU2 is a masterpiece

Don't play this game, just be happy with the ending of "The Last of Us 1" this game ruins the first one. The story is awful, it takes forever to get to the point and when it finally does it blows right past it, the motivations at the end of the game make no sense. The story is shallow, it's basically John Wick hunts down John Wick. all the character are unlikable and moody

I was delighted by those graphics and soundtrack, the story is very emotional and, although in some parts I wish they changed the orders of cutscenes to show more interection between both protagonists (Abby and Ellie), I think it was a good game, not excelent, but it was worth the hard work of developers...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don’t see why everyone is so upset with the game. There is valid criticism of the game, but everyone who is review bombing just because Ellie’s gay, Lev’s trans, and/or Joel died is pretty dumb. Yes, Joel died in a terrible way that he didn’t deserve, but that’s kind of the point. This is a post apocalyptic world for christ’s sake, a lot of people died in horrible ways. It’s a messed up world where messed up stuff happens to messed up people. Anyone upset that a character died is playing the wrong game. And Joel, Jessie, and Yara’s deaths being so sudden is really shows how unforgiving this world is. Also, the revenge plot didn’t bother me that much. It may be overly used, but I felt like Naughtydog put their own twist in it. Ellie’s one true fear is ending up alone. And her leaving Dina on the farm is pretty stupid, Ellie feels like she has no other choice. She can’t sleep, she can’t eat, she being constantly reminded and haunted by Seattle, and she feels like it’s going to effect JJ. In her mind, the only way to get everything back to normal is killing Abby. Rationally, the play knows that it won’t help anything, but Ellie isn’t being rational. She’s been traumatized and plagued with terrible thoughts. The one thing she could possibly do to stop it is kill Abby. At the end she doesn’t, which a lot of people are also upset about, but I really liked it. She thinks of Joel. She thinks of the years she hardly spoke to him after finding out the truth about the fireflies. She thinks o the big he before his death when they were finally going to start trying to better their relationship. She thinks of her decision to try to forgive him. But I think she also thinks of everything Joel has done. He hurt her. He basically killed all of the fireflies. So I think she understand Abby in that moment. They are one in the same. She was essentially trying to avenge her father’s death, just like Ellie was. So she let her go. And she ends up alone. And she loses the one thing that still connected her to Joel. Playing guitar. I think it’s perfectly tragic. With all the time and effort she spend trying to avenge him, she lost him. No one really deserved what happened to them, but that’s the whole point. This game left be emotionally broken for a really long time after I finished my first play through, but I feel a lot of what people are criticizing about the game was done very intentionally. So I’m probably biased, but I really liked the game, and I hope this community gets to a point where we can all have meaningful discussions without the hate. Because the game isn’t perfect, but I don’t think it deserves what’s happening to it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I would give this game an 8 out of 10. My reason behind this is that the gameplay was outstanding. The soundtrack was outstanding. The story not so much. First, I think that the way Joel died was not an honorable death for a character we were all so attached to. He deserved to die of old age or a natural cause rather than being beaten to death. Second, Abby. I find the idea for being able to play as the antagonist interesting but not a lot of people dig playing as the character who murdered a character we loved. When playing as her I felt that maybe it was only there to prolong game time. I think maybe little cutscenes from time to time would have been better. Third, the ending. Personally I was okay with Ellie not killing Abby. Only because it was supposed to show that Ellie still had a good side to her. The part of her she had when Joel was around. Although it did make me feel like that last few hours of the game were pointless. I think they should have just ended it at the point where Ellie had a home and family. I also hated the fact that when she returned home, everything and everyone she loved left her. Anyways that was my opinion on the game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is truly beautiful in terms of its graphics. The environment, character models, weapons and the cut scenes are really a tribute to the designers. Your eyes will feast on the incredible aesthetic of this game. Along with its visual beauty, the soundtrack put behind every moment is remarkable. The deafening screams of your most recently shot enemy or the gentle and calm plucks on Ellie’s guitar will satisfy your desire to be immerse in this post-apocalyptic world. At times, especially during the most violent scenes the sound track is frighteningly realistic. Gun shots, screams, blood dripping and much more to leave you uneasy in your seat whilst playing. The gameplay itself has some clunky moments, switching weapons in the heat of a fire fight was sometimes awkward and usually resulted in getting shot in the head or ripped apart by a Clicker. Although clunky sometimes, for the most part the firefights and deadly battles with infected were high energy and full of adrenaline but naturally fluid. There were so many times I was on the edge of my seat desperate to get through a bloody encounter with Ellie’s foes. The weapons are fantastic and you use different weapons depending on whether you are playing as Ellie or Abby which is a nice difference to the gameplay but I’m a little disappointed that in my opinion Abby got nearly all the best weapons. This game gives you shotguns, Molotov cocktails, Pipe bomb, Revolvers, Rifles, Bows and crossbows and even more to help you survive the horror of the Last of Us Part II. Dark hallways, fungus-infested rooms and desolate buildings make for a terrifying adventure through Seattle. As well as the high energy moments there were times of tension, anxiety and true fear as you try to navigate on to your next objective. This game is certainly not for the faint of heart. However, as much as the game has its positives it also has some big negatives. For many of us the Last of Us was a masterful story. It made us laugh, cry and cry some more and maybe even just smile a little at the wholesome moments. This is what people waited 7 years to see the sequel to. It fair to say the story took a rather harsh turn for me. The first half of the story is mostly good and at the 2 hour mark we see Joel butchered by Abby and that drives a hatred for her immediately. This move really twists up the story as you are forced to play as her later on. Abby is supposed to be the one we hate but we are lead down a road that basically end with “Good and Evil is subjective”. This I find to be an interesting take but it in turn destroys a major part of Ellie’s character in the process especially towards the latter part of the game when Ellie leaves her baby and girlfriend Dina to go and find Abby. The characters should drive the plot but here it seems the plot is driving the characters.
We are introduced to new characters which is great if they actually had serious depth. The new characters in the story have very little backstory and I was waiting and waiting for the character to shine through! Unfortunately, the parts when they actually do they are killed before we can learn much more about them. Abby is also a main area I find to be that let’s the story down. Firstly, she is incredibly muscular and especially by most people’s standards. This seems rather silly in the context of the game where survival is paramount, food, water, ammo and fighting for your life should be your top priority. Making muscle gains is very much a 1st World passion and interest that requires a strict diet regime, regular exercise and plenty of time to recover from your workout. Not such luxury would probably exist in a world full of constant danger. Not only that but there are very few women that are capable of even reaching that muscle size in the world right now and all in all it seems implausible
Owen is a new character that is introduced to us as a friend of Abby. I might even enjoy Owen as a character if I didn’t immediately feel disgusted by the fact he actively cheats on his pregnant girlfriend Mel. Mel is a character fighting for the WLF and is a friend of Abby and for some reason everyone is okay with a pregnant woman to go on dangerous missions in a combat zone. Why?! The WLF is mentioned to have thousands of members and seemingly none of them would make a safer and more suitable candidate? Another example of a situation that is ridiculous given the context. Rounding up, the Last of Us Part II can be described as a “Beautiful, Messy Fun”. This game has serious issues around the plot which leave you very confused but the game is fundamentally enjoyable to play. I wouldn’t recommend buying it if the story is the only reason you want to play. I hope to see Naughty Dog expand on the story and tie up the loose ends of the story as it left me dieing to see it resolved.

    The greatest game ever.

Reading some reviews makes me feel people are either silly or just full of hate. Considering the message of the game itself, It's kind of symbolic. Feels better that people didn't like - that is in line with the story.

Hoje terminei the last of us part ll, e me veio aquele vazio após o termino e que fazia tempo que não vinha, a história meche bastante com o jogador, alguns reclamaram muito pelo fato do Joel morrer mas acredito que para a história fazer sentido e te deixar com o sentimento de vingança assim como a Ellie, teria que ser dessa forma, gostei também de como fizeram o jogador entender os motivos da Abby e o final foi surpreendente pois fugiu do roteiro óbvio como muitos filmes fazem de fazer o personagem principal ter finalmente a sua vingança mas entender que a pessoa que foi perdida nunca vai voltar, e a Ellie entendeu isso antes de cometer um erro, só não gostei muito das partes de flasback que normalmente começam após o jogo chegar num ápice e você fica ansioso para ver mais, e bum mais um flashback, mas de resto pra mim o jogo foi perfeito. As someone who did not enjoy the core gameplay loop in the first game at all, finding it outmoded and clunky compared to other titles, it was the story that kept me invested and pushed me through the poor gameplay to see it through to its conclusion. And it was worth it for me.

In this game? Not so much.

The mechanics have changed little since the original title, which is a shame, because that long development time would have been ideal to just tighten up the controls enough to make combat and exploration a little more responsive and enjoyable. This is doubly disappointing as the story makes some very decisive and decidedly poor choices when it comes to pacing and character development, throwing out the foibles and virtues of existing characters, and instead repackaging them as clean blank slates to both serve the narrative direction and give plot armour to newer and less interesting characters.

The mid and latter stages of the game felt more like 'going through the motions' so we can advance the petty revenge story, rather than watching loved characters - both old and new - grow in meaningful ways. I expect this kind of pacing and plot progression in open world RPGs where side quests and grinding are expected and even encouraged, but not in a linear and story-driven action-horror title. I followed this game through to it's conclusion, but honestly? I wish I hadn't.

That said, if you are not motivated by story or writing or character progression and come for the gameplay (power to you), then you'll find a gorgeous world filled with fun little details, immersive ambient sound and lighting and some fairly pretty (albeit dark due to an over-reliance on interior levels) environments which show off the game engine and PS4 hardware in a way which would have some PC owners sweating a little.

For me though, this isn't enough. I can never justify style over substance, and have returned the game for a full refund out of principle. I have only ever been disappointed enough to do this once before, and is not something I take pleasure in doing. I like to support art and artists, and I will never tell you to not spend your money, but all things considered, I would strongly advise not paying full price. Maybe catch this in a sale or on the pre-owned shelf at your local game store of choice.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is truly incredible. Using both gameplay and cutscenes to tell a heartfelt story of loss, revenge, and ultimately forgiveness. Since the first game ended I was interest in what would happen from Joel’s choice ( a choice I agreed with). This game does a great of job of living in the results of that. I think once your realize you’re playing through an incredible story and you (the player) are not part of the story, it becomes great. Once you invest in the characters journeys and not make it your own, you’ll start to see what naughty dog was going for. My only real faults with the game were with mechanics, the dogs were extremely annoying and made those sections either avoid everyone or kill everyone, same with the stalkers later in the game

Don’t read this part of you haven’t played the game. It basically me going through the game saying parts I liked and parts I didn’t. And as what happen to Joel happens and you go down Ellie spiral you start to see how Ellie is so different from Abby in her desire for gruesome murder. Then the switch to Abby feels foreign at first from the scene you just came from. But as you play and meet lev and it feels very similar to playing as Joel in the first game (a large imposing figure with a archer partner, craft shivs). The worse section of the games were near in the end where they made you control Abby in a fight with Ellie when you wanted Ellie to win. And having the game force you to control the enemy and have the computer use your tactics as Ellie was difficult to go through. I think it’s a better game for it but this section was hard for me as a player. The following section on the farm, made it feel like the ending which at first I was upset that Ellie lost the big battle ( I really didn’t want either character to die but I didn’t want Ellie to lose). But after walking around the farm I became ok with this being the ending and was happy for Ellie and the life she had. Until the panic attack hits and she goes after Abby again. The ending section on the beach I think was the perfect way to end it, Ellie got her revenge but her killing Abby in that moment wouldn’t have meant anything.

I'm going to spell it out nice and easy, this game is a perfect example of character assassination, where both Ellie and Joel's characters are mistreated and do things they wouldn't do logically (as per their first game development and even per some of this games development). Notice how with the low score user reviews, most of them are posted on the day the game came out (impossible to finish and have an opinion on the story on the day of release) And a lot of them say stupid crap like “the multiplayer was okay” even though.. it doesn’t have multiplayer. Overall there’s a lot of entitled fans of the game who had a very specific perception of what the sequel should be - a boring, cliche revenge tale. But it’s not their story to tell.

A seriously missed opportunity with bizzare twists and plenty of plot holes and coincidences that make you squirm at times and prevents it from living up to its predecessor. By the end you're tired, frustrated and disappointed, searching for some semblance of redemption or meaning, and leaves you with the feeling that it could have been better. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's not hard to subvert expectations, it was done with The Last Jedi to ill effect. If a game can be a 10 out of 10 and not perfect, then by the same logic it can be a 0. Characters from the second half of the game were very unlikeable and I could not bring myself to empathise with them no matter how hard I tried. This was due to poor pacing and execution of story elements (Joel's death) early on in the game. Naughty dog decided to take a massive dump on beloved characters, trying really hard to make them unlikeable. This is especially true of Ellie. Pandering and pushing an agenda in a post apocalyptic world was another draw back which I will not get into because it has become a very exhausting issue in recent years. Disadvantages
    false advertising
    disrupted feature composition
morally spoiled heroes (I don't mean Lgbt +)
There are no decent attitudes to follow, but there will be exceptions.
    main story
    brutal even by my standards
the moments when a player feels emotionally handicapped, lack of empathy ( I felt dislike for myself. )
    the side characters are shallow
the main objective has not been achieved
ending (When I finished the game, I realized that I no longer had any sympathy for the two heroines.)
    sometimes boring (exploring)

    Additional comments:
It was supposed to be a zombie game, right? I felt that zombies are a species in extinction than the human race.
I don't think any religion should be offended in games.
I thought that in a survival game we should first focus on survival rather than social problems. Which 45 (?) years later some social problem don't have to be exist.

Everything over these past 7 years set this game up to be one of the greatest. However, the almost universal critical acclaim of the first game and the subsequent anticipation as we waited for this game to come out lead only to disappointment. As a stand alone game this would have been fantastic, and a true classic. The theme is driven home in every action the characters take. Hate can only lead to destruction of everything around it. Sometimes the only way forward is to forgive, let go, and move on. It is a little too long.

Too bad everything else is miles behind of what Naughty Dog can do. Gameplay has little to no innovation. Meaning if you replayed the 1st part to get ready for second, everything will feel familiar but that means you will grow bored that much quicker. Only 1 new type of infected (not counting the boss fight) so nothing to look forward to in the fight sections. Copy pasted human boss fight from Uncharted 4 gives away Naughty Dog's lazyness with the sequel. But i guess all of that could be forgiven in a narrative driven game....if the narrative wasn't insulting to player's inteligence. Story is absolutely terrible just as the pacing and constant jumping between timelines and flashbacks. Just as you are starting to get ''into it'' you are quickly pulled out with a flashback or a walking sequence. Not to mention the deceitful marketting. Definitely not trusting Naughty Dog again with a preorder. Can't give the game more than a 5 for beutifull graphics and detailed animations. Expand

I will say that I have been a little let down with how Ellie is written/performed so far - too dour and moody compared to part 1, and I don't completely agree that just because she's older that explains it all; some of that feistiness should have been more of an inherent trait, imo.

That was all I wanted from a sequel and this games does everything it can to tear down the characters you bonded with so strongly in the first game. I didn’t want to see Ellie destroy her life and end up with nothing left at the end, nor did I want to see Joel tortured to death, in front of a Ellie while she begs for his life in the first ten minutes of the game. Worst of all, I didn’t want to spend the second half of the game playing AS his killer for about 8 hours.

I couldn’t relate to Abby, I didn’t want to relate to Abby and I found playing as her actively antagonising. The writers should be sacked and retrain for another career. The graphics, animations, level design, performances, combat, etc. are all incredible, but the terrible writing and story choices meant I didn’t give a **** about any of it. Es una historia muy cruda a veces un tanto incomoda y el final te dará mucho de que pensar, pero siendo un fan de esta saga esperando el juego durante 7 años pienso que si dio mucho la talla, aunque ninguno supere al uno. Este juego me hizo extrañar y valorar aun mas a joel, respetar a ellie y tommy, incluso, a entender a abby.

Solo puedo decir gracias Neil Druckmann (Dr. Uckmann).

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
