There were many different aspects of the game that just turned me off. The game looks visually stunning and the details naughty dog put into visual fidelity is amazing but beyond the graphics, this game lacks heavily everywhere else especially the story. I could not jump on board with what the developers were suggesting where the story was going and they lost me from the beginning. It’s just not believable what they had Ellie doing, trying to justify it by using a really sorry teenage level revenge story. I’m sorry but this game deserves better writing and more evolved game play! The game play is serviceable but I was hoping for a more developed/evolved and matured last of us. The studio only seemed to have added a few new game mechanics including a dodge button, jump button and going prone. They also failed to add any new enemies outside of the “shambler” which is a really lazy one at best. I was really hoping that naughty dog hit this one out of the ball park but sadly they really dropped the ball on this one FOR ME. Maybe my expectations were too high given it took them 7 years but that’s what I expect from AAA studios in 2020. I was really hoping that the narrative would have pulled me in just like the first game did but I could not find it in me to do so. All the characters were acting so out of the ordinary even the new ones didn’t seem to have realistic decision making. I feel like I’m being critical but I have to be given how big the title is and how bad Naughty dog screwed up. They have all the winning elements but they just didn’t put it together correctly. If they just told a more dare I say “generic” story that we all wanted with Ellie and Joel, maybe this would all be different but this is what happens when you take a risk on going woke and fail. It falls flat, especially because the last of us is such a narrative driven game, having a bad story really hiders itself from being anything great. Anyway, i hope they can bounce back with something better or a new IP that is more engaging and fun. This one wasn’t for me. Sorry... Expand

The shock value violence is bad, it feels forced And will make you roll your eyes. Not every game can use violence in an artistic way like Silent Hill 2. The graphics are not THAT great But they're the only thing this game does well.
This game still has the same clunky gameplay that was already outdated in 2013, and generally is not very modern in design. QTE, endless dialogues and pretentious pseudo cinematic style have been abandonned long ago for more gameplay based experience since games like bioshock or Witcher III showed that you can make a good story without endless annoying dialogues.

The story is awfully pretentious and at the same time doesn't really have much to say.
Neil Druckman's overinflated ego doesn't reflect his talents as a game designer. He obviously wanted to "subvert expectations" and emulate what Kojima did in Metal Gear by presenting violence as an endless circle, but the talent and creativity that made the MGS games so special just isn't there. Instead we have over the top violence, bland characters and a gas station novel plot.

Combined with the very annoying story, the slow and clunky gameplay make this game a chore.

This is not a good game and the fact it was propped up by critics as the definitive experience of this generation says all you need to know about them. There are dozens of better games that will never get that kind of attention, do some research and use your wallet to reward someone who worked hard to create something special.

Don't let anyone lie to you: the reason this "game" gets so bad reviews is because people don't like it, period.

Looks like the devs are just trying to lecture you about how bad hatred and violence is, and nothing else mattered while writing the plot. They would stick to it, even if that meant having every character in the world acting like some sadistic moustache twirling villain. And somehow they thought that would make the story "deep".

The environment isn't much more interactive than the original Resident Evil games. Hell, that might be the next step in moviegames, since common plebs can't be trusted to point the camera at the right place in visionary director Neil Druckmann's masterpieces. Why, that's like a moviegoer walking onto the set of a Spielberg movie and spinning the camera around.

It was the real disrespect for those who loved the first game. This could be like a side story over a videogame no one cared about. And it will still be an absolute trash. Inclusion over society and political matters had to be included right? Had to be set free in the end? How cowardly from the director of this game. Plus he gave us the one gay/transgender porn scene no one really needed. NO ONE asked for that. Was a game. Absolute trash. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In this review I will be as honest as possible. Many people are angry at the game and are giving scores of 1 or 0. Does this game deserve them? Absolutely not. Does this game deserve the snobby false 'woke' reviews from the critics? Absolutely not. This game in my eyes is a classic example, much like Wolfenstein young blood and battle field V of a game which tries to force modern day issues and characters into their games to portray the characters in a positive light. Although nothing wrong with that in the slightest, poor execution of such a forced concept can inherently come back to bite you, this game is exactly that. It spends so long trying to force an emotional connection to the new characters but fails to realise that the characters themselves are not only boring and have a disingenuous back story, they also do not even have a fraction of the appeal of the old characters (Joel and Ellie) in terms of personality, likeability and emotional bond between game character and game player. I honestly felt as though the desire to care even slightly about the new characters was being rammed down my throat with mild back stories and forced interactions. What made the LOU great was arguably its characters its story, the magic of which is completely lost. They tried to take the franchise in a new direction at supersonic pace but sadly crashed face first into a wall.

The game play element of the game is amazing though, despite the criticisms of the story, the game is visually striking. Apart from reusing a lot of generic GTA V looking NPC models which is a serious letdown based on how amazing the rest of the game looks the game itself is arguably single-handedly carried by the environment and map design and appearance. Yes there are elements of the gameplay which are boring, however it really pushes the limits of the old console systems to deliver a visually impressive game despite being run on a dated system. If this game were to have released on the new console right now the visuals may have even carried this game to a 7/10, however here we are. With a broken franchise that tried too hard to drive a story with no legitimate foundation that left me as a player completely unable to connect and justify the actions of the new characters and not at all wanting to see any more of their story.

They took one of the best written game that was so good it created its own genre, fired everyone that made it and got a bunch of completely unqualified people to do it. I hold on and refused to give up, thinking Joel's death would actually mean something; nope it was absolutely useless and further nothing. Whoever wrote the plot did not graduate school, I taught for 10 years in my life and the story the created for this game is about as deep and readable as the 7th graders in my school. This is possibly worse than the Transformers movie plots, it's very tragic considering even streamers you pay to play for advertisement find the game crap. The only reason Naughty Dog even made profit off the game is because idiots like me did pre-purchase, watch them suppress the sales volume because it will abysmal compared to original TLOU. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The story of the game is completely disappointing. I don't know what you liked in The Last of Us game, but what I liked was the atmosphere and character relationships. Although this game is very successful in terms of atmosphere and gameplay, I cannot say the same for its story. Joel, who is my favorite and empathetic character in this game, is dying in this game. and neither a character is added to replace it, nor can it fill in Ellie. The game is already doing everything it can to hate fifty. You always feel at your side as Joel is on his way to revenge, but this feeling decreases as you progress in the script. I do not want to touch upon the love triangle events during the trip. after some point in the game you are playing with Abby and you see his past and his experiences. you partially empathize with it and start giving rights to it. we even break the mouth of the fifty face while controlling Abby at some point. I'm not sure what Naughty Dog were thinking here. Even with the amazing (yet very similar to TLoU1 graphics), they completely let players down. I don't mind the politically correct basis for the characters and their backgrounds, but the writing just destroyed what was left of the story and characters. Unfortunately I think this is the end of this franchise.

So, yeah, the least i can do for you is to give a warning: TL;DR -> This game is not worth your time neither the money it asks for it.

    But let's be fair:

    The Good:
    - The world looks great!!
    - Music is SUPERB!!
    - The voice acting is top notch.
    - Gameplay is good. It's not perfect, but this is TLOU. Gameplay is meant to be kinda imperfect, but still reflects the atmosphere of the original.

    The Bad:
    - Plot Holes. Lots of them.
    - Character development. Is null at best. (Take this with a grain of salt, since i won't play this to the end). Feels rushed and regressed, compared to the original game.

    The Ugly:
    - The Story.... souless at best. You really don't care for the fate of the characters depicted, except for the two main characters from TLOU1. The writing compared with the original feels empty and void. It's like were written by a totally different author.

I'm not going to spoil anything here, but since the game is so story driven, the story should have been treated differently. It feels like it was rushed and poorly developed. In this case, you can have the best music, graphics, etc. but if the story fails, the entire experience fails (Reminded me to Metal Gear Solid 2, which happens to have a similar treatment of characters and plot). You can have the best graphics but if the main point is the story, the game fails. And in my case, i just called a day, uninstalled and quit it. Maybe later will look for the ending on youtube or something, but at this point, i'm done with it.

Not recommended. At all. (And if you have any disorder such as depression or anxiety, avoid this game at all costs). If you played TLOU1, stick with it, and stick with that ending.

Everything about the first game fans loved was almost completely done away with. The only parts I enjoyed were a few flashback sequences with Joel. Everything else was poorly written and executed. Naughty Dog decided to go the political route, when all fans wanted was to see the main characters of the first game continue their journey together. The graphics were amazing, like we all knew they would be, but everything else felt empty and literally pointless. Nothing is achieved with this story and the characters do not grow in any way. Joel’s arc was utterly disgraceful and his character disrespected. Ellie is not relatable in this at all compared to the first installment. My only hope is that the fans’ disappointment will help other gaming studies learn how to write better and not make the same mistake twice. I hope. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wow, this may be the worst game from NaughtyDog, hopefully it's not a slippery slope. This Story fails In every way that I can imagine. I don't know if it's due to the disappearance of Bruce Straley (or the 70% of Naughtydog staff). There are times that the gameplay becomes overly stretched out to reach the approximate of 25 hours. I must agree with the other reviewers that the story does ultimately feel like poorly written fan fiction. I cannot believe how awful of a story this has become. The character's actions do not feel genuine as much as it's predecessor, and re only done in order to continue the story, but it feels too "Video Gamey". This Game is such a Blood bath, any if not all the characters you care about seem to have a very gruesome ending in the wretched world. That reminds me of the World, it is absolutely awful to play in, its atmosphere is so Hopeless at least its predecessor should a cruel world with hidden beauty. As for audio, it was done quite well, the soundtrack by Gustavo Santaolalla is quite nice with a somber vibe. The Gameplay is very much of the same from the Last of us 1, not much new besides the new jump button, the rope, and the ability to be prone. I'm not sure what was going on with the writing staff at NaughtyDog but it seems that there has been a falling out with anyone who criticized Niel's **** storyline. I don't want to spoil too much if you're planning on purchasing the game =).

I decided to finish The Last of Us on hard tonight to sit with a fresh revival of the story before I began the second part, I was left with the bitter-SWEET ending we’ve all grown to adore and love, and started the second with a bit of a bitter and more dark recounting of the ending (with Joel telling Tommy how they reached Jackson I’m assuming not long after the end of the first game) and leaving us with more guilt and doubt regarding the actions of Joel’s decision to rescue Ellie. This is by far the best writing and storytelling you’re gonna get out of the game. The epilogue lmao. Gameplay is fun and the hordes and human enemies are fun to fight. That’s about it, it’s quite depressing but ThAtS tHe pOinT. No sweetness in this one. None at all. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. "It can't be for nothing." Well, turns out that it can. These are Ellie's own poignant words in the first one.

Honestly, I'm not sure where to start. I guess I'll start by noting that I completed one run through and I've returned the game for a full credit. Next, I am completely heartbroken and I'm left utterly disappointed after finishing the game. Killing off a most beloved character is just so unacceptable and disrespectful to the first game. Waiting so long, all for nothing. Giving us such beauty in the first one, that loving relationship between Joel and Ellie...it's all for naught in this game. There is nothing between them in this game except in flashbacks. The flashbacks with Joel and Ellie were amazing, don't get me wrong. Thank you for those at least. It was emotional seeing her get to be an astronaut. Was this supposed to be our "giraffe" moment?

Ok then....first off, I can accept Joel being killed. I get it. He did some bad stuff in his life and killed a lot of people. Fine. What I take issue with is HOW and WHEN he was killed. What I take issue with is the fact you think we would buy the whole narrative that Joel would put himself in that situation with strangers in the first place! That is out of character. He wouldn't even let Tommy pick up people on the road in the first one, but he's just saving a stranger in this one?? He could smell an ambush a mile away in the first game (Pittsburgh), but in this one, that just went out the window. Every rough thing about Joel we grew to love in the first game was simply dismissed and erased. Did you think we wouldn't catch that? Joel isn't stupid and yet you made him thoughtless and reckless in this one. IT MAKES NO SENSE. And less than TWO HOURS in? Shot by Abby and then beaten with a golf club? Put him in a situation like dying while saving Ellie. Let him die with some dignity. What you did was grotesque, especially after an act of kindness.

Secondly, I loved Ellie's campaign. I would play her sections over again. I know Ellie. I hated Abby's campaign. Making us play as the person who killed Joel is just disgusting and the person(s) who thought of this should be FIRED and NEVER hired by another gaming company ever again! It was also an underwhelming story and I was just playing on auto pilot to get to the end. I didn't expect much because her early heinous act in the game is IRREDEEMABLE. I felt nothing about Abby through her campaign. I didn't feel anything for her when she helped Lev and Yara. I didn't feel anything when Mel called her a piece of s***. I felt nothing. No sympathy. No empathy. NOTHING. The story was poorly constructed. There was no character development for Abby. She was just shoved in our faces. I jumped Abby to her death so many times and thoroughly enjoyed it. Otherwise, her campaign was boring as hell and is just cringe throughout.

Third of all, playing as Abby, then beating up Tommy, then beating the HELL out of Ellie and almost killing Dina was just the effing worst. Abby had no moral high ground to stand on telling Ellie she never wants to see her again. She had no right. She had no place in this story.

Fourth of all, ARE YOU KIDDING ME WITH THAT ENDING?! After all the fighting, the hard work, blood, sweat and tears to get to Abby and you thought it was a good idea she just....let her go?!?! What an effing waste!! You should have let us decide if we wanted to kill her or let her go. Leave that decision to us. But you made a game that YOU like, not one that WE like.

And finding out AT THE VERY END that their relationship was on the mend? You should be ashamed. Ellie has nothing. Abby has everything she wanted: Joel dead and she's alive. Please don’t make any more for this series. For me, The Last of Us will be the last and only game I own by Naughty Dog. Your marketing was SO deceptive. I’ve never seen such deceptive marketing just to boost sales. I can't believe you thought it was a good idea to give us this story and make Abby a playable character. It feels like a soulless cash grab, like something you created at the last minute. This was a major fail. I have decided to pretend this story was never created. I am going to pretend it was a horrible nightmare. I hope game of the year skips over you. You don’t deserve it after this abomination.

Really bad. The first game was fun to explore. I loved finding all of the comic books and waiting around to listen to Ellie’s terrible jokes. It was a story about people trying to still be human in a post-apocalyptic world. I could connect with those characters.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

    Nota final 4/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I just ended the game, I'm completely disappointed, I think the dead of Joel (my favorite character) has fck me up a lot, I don't understand how you can kill a protagonist that many of us loved in that way, for me it has been hard, it has broken the story completely, on the other hand the characters did not seem to "feel" the death of their friends or loved ones, as is the case with Jessie, among others, I have not feel any drama for the deaths, it lacks depth, although I insist on it. What has shocked me the most is that they killed Joel, I did not deserve it, the saga has gone from being my favorite to "one more" of which if there is a continuation I will not buy it, there is much to polish, the final actions of Ellie, looking for Abby to get revenge to finally leave her alive losing 2 fingers and not being able to play her guitar and lose everything, I have noticed that forced part, completely filler, that part could have been omitted, I understand what they wanted to capture in the game, even so I think the end was unnecessary , the truth has disappointed me a lot, bad purchase, I would rather have stayed with the experience of the first part.

I also did not like that there are so many "flashbacks" from the past, there are so many that the story is reduced a lot, with the game I have noticed "more of the same" without big changes in the enemies or the combat, except going to the ground and jumping everything others is the same, a change in the weapon system and updates would have been a good point, and the story well ... very linear sometimes I have even noticed that it is very forced, Joel It has been noted very well that it has "discarded". An excessively forced discard, he was a character that could be squeezed, had potential and was sentenced in a few minutes of the game.

Instead of so many flashbacks, the story could have been better exploited, a more advanced Cordyceps infection or a story more focused on infection, for example, a greater variety of enemies would also have been crucial

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Visually The Last Of Us Part II is simply stunning; I cannot deny it is one of the best looking games to my knowledge. Sadly the game is let down by some truly dreadful storytelling. The characters are flat, po-faced and have no discernible qualities. Both Ellie and Dina blur into each other like they're the same character. The gameplay is pretty fantastic when the player is given the freedom to roam and explore the world, but the majority of the game is watching cutscene after cutscene, or forced to walk slowly through a setting in a bid to mask loading times, not to mention the tedious mini-games, like playing fetch with a dog. As someone who often skips boring story in games, I was penealised by having to watch an equally dull and painfully long loading screen. The total playtime of this game is around 20 hours; less than 8 of that was actual gameplay, and I wasn't dawdling either.

While the gameplay was decent, I had to find ways to make it more entertaining, such as changing the intended difficulty from Moderate to Hard, I refused to use Listen Mode, and I avoided upgrading weapons or any of my skill tree. I consider myself to be a gamer with average skill. I should commend Naughty Dog for making this game accessible, but I firmly believe that there needs to be challenge and reward, fine-tuned by the developers. It shouldn't really be up to me to set my own challenge, especially when the intended setting is way too easy.

The worst thing about this game is not having a central protagonist. Halfway through the game we're expected to play as the antagonist, where it is expected that we sympathise with their position. In two instances you play as each character where you are forced to beat the living daylights out of the other. The violence between both characters by the end feels somewhat comical, like something out of a comedy sketch show, combined with the brutality of the French torture horror film Martyrs. With no clear hero or villain in this game, I was left feeling completely cold for every character in it. The original game was criticised for forcing the player to have Joel kill innocent doctors in a bid to save Ellie, but in that instance it felt arguably justified. Here, Naughty Dog obligate the player to simply help the story along with no control over the outcome, and expect the player to side with both characters. I believe this to be a near impossible task. Pressing buttons to repeatedly beat the character you spent an entire game trying to protect is why this game ultimately fails.

Finally I should add; I applaud any developer for having two gay leading characters, as well as a character who is identified as trans, but not when the story is at best mediocre, and at worst completely and utterly infuriating.

Videogames as a medium are still in its infancy, but the way they tell interactive stories is unique to any other established medium. When gaming tries to be a TV show or a film, as shown in The Last of Us Part II, it ultimately fails at what its best at. For truly unique and original storytelling in gaming, look to games such as Dark Souls or Journey. Much like David Cage's games, Naughty Dog seem like a developer who are almost embarrassed to be considered a videogaming company. Even if this were a TV show or a film which it clearly wants to be, it wouldn't be a very good one either. What a failure of a game, and I'm disappointed that I paid full price to learn this.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To start off, I played this game with high hopes, staying away from trailers, leaks, and reviews prior to playing it. I came to it no spoilers or information being given to me.

With that said, the best part of this game is the graphics and gameplay. The graphics are beautiful-- not matter how you look at it. The animations for the scenery is top notch-- running into snow and seeing it fall off a tree or leaving footprints behind you. Seeing a squirrel run up the side of the tree was amazing within the graphics. The audio also is really well done-- the gun fires and the sfx really create a dynamic environment.

The gameplay is fun in the beginning-- being able to duck down further than the first one allows for more variety in how to traverse the environments. Being able to break in windows and move at your own free will was the best part. There is one moment that you actually are able to roam Seattle and visit different areas of the map which was by far the best part imo. There are some issues with gameplay-- mostly to do with how it progresses. I loved the first half because I usually am the type to sneak around and kill enemies through stealth-- halfway through the game it sets it up so you no longer can do that. The stealth is thrown away for a stuck in a room and fight it out type style. I have never been a fan of these game set-ups as it takes away from how different plays engage with the game.

Now comes to the hard part-- the stories and character. As a member of the LGBT+ community, I am all for inclusion; however, the moment you start feeling like characters are a checklist of things the devs thought people would like-- it is a problem. Whenever I started to enjoy a character, they ended up getting shot-- this happens more than once. The characters from the past games are barely in it excluding Ellie. I would have killed for more Tommy and Ellie interactions. In the case of Joel, I understand that his death was going to happen. Putting it at the beginning of the game was a bad choice. You have little to no interaction with his character or even get to play as him. Not only that, but having a character spit on Joel after he is brutally murdered is like spitting on the original fans for like a white male protagonist. Ellie's love interest is manipulative and disgusting. The moment Ellie starts speaking of her ptsd, Dina shoots her down and tells her to "get over it". This is not a good portrayal of an LGBT+ Character. I had to look up Jesse's name because while I was interested in his character-- they killed him off after only an hour of interaction. Ellie herself isn't even similar to the kid in the first game-- she barely makes jokes and tries to make things lighter than what they are. I get that she is traumatized, but I barely see the little girl that I enjoyed from the first game in her character.

Then comes the worst decision the devs could make-- you begin playing as Abby the worst character I have seen in awhile. She has the personality of a cardboard box. You are supposed to relate to her yet she doesn't show any remorse or regret. Ellie accidentally kills a pregnant woman which makes her absolutely sick to her stomach compared to Abby who almost kills Dina who is pregnant because REVENGE without a second thought. You are supposed to feel bad when one of her friends calls her the worst person ever-- but I agree with the friend. Even after she has learned of her mistakes she goes and MURDERS all the people she knew from her group to save a kid she found a few days before. I don't even remember her friends name which shows how important they were to the plot. Owen is the only other character I remember the name to and he was just annoying. I did not nor ever do I want a love triangle in my video games-- it is an overdone trope that is tedious and boring. Most of the characters can pretty much be summed up to one character trait and that is it.

Yara and Lev probably had the most intriguing ideas behind their characters prior to them butchering their plot line. The idea of them running from a Religious cult because Lev wanted to be a boy? I would be far more interested in following Yara trying to escape with Lev then doing anything with Abby. The story of Lev having to murder his own mother left a bad taste in my mouth-- only to have Yara pretty much murdered two minutes later. The writing and characters are on par with the last season of Game of Thrones-- shock is more valuable than good character development.

All around the story is horrible. In the beginning I was okay with the revenge plot. It is over-done and tiresome; however, I could at least see some semblance of an idea. Once you get past that, it is a chore to work through the rest. The ending was also crap. You have Ellie saying she has to leave to get revenge, murder a bunch of people only to let Abby go.

    Go play Days Gone instead.

I am honestly thinking about getting counseling for how terrible this game is. It messes with you too. There is no character growth, and no resolution its all around depressing in the end. Part 1 left you with hope for the future, i literally only finished it to satisfy my own curiosity. I saw the abismal user ratings before i played it but i thought hey maybe its bots... its not bots its bad. Not worth playing or buying. Just do yourself a favor and dont play it. Do yourself a favour and skip this game.. let The last of us end after part 1. You will play 2 hours of this game and then ruined.. no pay off at the end either.. a game heavily reliant on story has one very bad story!!
Its disingenuous of NaughtyDog to still sell this game featuring Joel!!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game has left me beyond disappointment. I'm sure I can speak for everyone when I say I loved the first TLOU. But this game makes me feel like it tried to tear down the characters and ruin the franchise. I don't know where to start with this god awful game. Like most people I absolutely hated how they treated Joel. One of the best characters i think i have ever seen in any type of media. He is portrayed as smart, experienced, and battle hardened survivor in he first game but in this game he completely goes against his character established in the last game. In the previous game he is shown to know and see all the traps and bad ideas thrown his way. Never trusting strangers and always keeping his guard up. In TLOU2 Joel goes against his character by trusting a stranger with his name and even going back to their home camp. These actions end up getting him killed by one of the worst developed characters in a video game, Abby. The way they treated Joel is downright disrespectful to TLOU fans all around. We have a full game with Joel just to see him die in a way we know he shouldn't have according to his character is more than upsetting. The game then sets you off on a journey of revenge where the game makes it almost seem like Ellie is losing her passion of getting revenge, which if the writing was consistent from the first game, we know that Ellie would have been dead-set on her revenge. Which is the biggest problem with this game. The terrible writing and character development. This story actively goes against the character development from the last game while building new characters extremely poorly. The lack of character building for the newly introduced characters was bluntly obvious. No one seem to care about the WLF characters besides getting revenge for Joel. They just felt like the nameless enemies from the previous games instead of people you understood and maybe even cared for. They were compelling in no way at all. This was extremely prevalent for the other main protagonist Abby, who from the extremely misleading advertising I was unaware of. But it turns out you play 10 hours (half of the game) playing as a character you hate. Since Joel was so beloved and you see him being brutally beaten to death by someone, you are naturally inclined to hate that person. Then the game makes you play half of the game as the character who shows no remorse for all the people she's killed including Joel and Jesse, there is no possible way that you will be able to feel any empathy towards this character. But this game tries so hard to make you feel pity and understand her, when it is impossible to feel pity after seeing what she has done. She is also portrayed as a very dislikable and morally questionable person throughout the 10 hours. This is a prime example of the trash writing put into this game. At the end of the game Ellie and Abby are having a final showdown when Ellie is close to finishing the job she set out to do at the very beginning of this game, but she stops drowning Abby after seeing a image of Joel in her head. This makes no sense as seeing Joel in her head is what triggered her to start the fight in the first place. This also goes back to how in the first game Joel and Ellie will do anything for each other, like when Ellie first killed someone to save Joel. The fact that Ellie let Joel's killer get away on purpose went against her character built up in the last game which loops back to one of this game's biggest problems. Not only that but seeing the sole purpose you played the game for (to get revenge for Joel and kill Abby) slips through your fingertips is more than disappointing and unsatisfying. This is by far one of the worst endings I've ever seen in any media. The only redeeming part of this story was the beautiful graphics and pretty good gameplay. Other than that I wished this game didn't exist. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS GAME. IT WILL DISAPPOINT YOU!

Overall: The only good part of this game was the graphics and gameplay. But the story was complete and utter trash. Only play this game if you don't care about the story and just want some more TLOU gameplay, but even then I would recommend playing the original.

Joel's relationship with Ellie is spat upon, characters make ridiculous/idiotic choices, and the new character played by Laura Bailey, is, in my opinion, the worst video game character of all time. Not only that but the ending is just awful. It completely undoes everything everyone was trying to accomplish and made playing through the game a complete waste of time. The game-play was similar as the first Last of Us and became a literal chore after hours of playing, as it was just the same stealth sequences in different areas. Plus the fact that we are also forced to play as Abby which is such a dis-likable character for hours on end just made the overall experience worse and the slow paced game-play even more painful and tedious to go through. 1- For All the Joel and Ellie scenes
0- For absolutely disrespecting Joel as a character, and on top of that making us play as the character who killed Joel.

Do not care one bit about diversity in games. Want a good story with good characters.

The graphics in this game earn it a 3. Everything else is lacking to me. The game-play itself is stale and feels last-gen. The movement, level design, progression, weapons and combat are all uninspired.

Now the story. Games like this are almost completely dependent on the story. If it is good, we can forgive other shortfalls. If it is bad, it ruins the game. This story is bad, and I mean REALLY bad. The developers even tells us "this game is not supposed to be fun". Well if that was the goal, they nailed it! There is nothing redeeming about this second installment of The Last of Us, and I can only hope that they do not make another...ever...
I won't tell you what happens, but only encourage you NOT to play this game!
Western games have fallen off a cliff into the abyss of agenda, and I would recommend looking to the east for your entertainment until this is corrected.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wow... just wow. TLOU1 was one of my favorite games of all time, and primarily because of the story. The story in this game is warm, wet, diseased diarrhea. Seriously, the worst story of any game I've ever played... ever. The best example I can give is that this is the gaming equivalent of Game of Thrones Season 8. Good writing... NAH! Just have characters do things that are completely out of line with their character and "subvert expectations"! If you're considering this game because you loved the first one... just don't. Just remember it the way it was and don't tarnish the memory, because this game wipes its ass with the first game. This game is beautiful visually and is well made mechanically, I'll give it a couple of points for that but the AI is not good, gameplay is very repetitive and the story is absolute trash. Expand

The gameplay and graphics update does not qualify a good game. Critics have either never played the first game, or are choosing to ignore the obvious faults in the story. This is a STORY DRIVEN game. If the story is not good, why would you play it let alone like the game? Save your money.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The defense that "This game would have gotten better ratings if the leaks didn't come out" is ultimately weak and illogical. What happens would have happened regardless. Nobody wants to play as the person who killed off their favorite characters. I'm very sure people would've easily wanted to play as Joel but they never do unless you count that tiny horseback part before his death. What you're left with afterwards is an awkward uncomfortable scene that feels forced and less of these M-rated scenes should even be in gaming in my opinion. You get a lackluster revenge story afterwards with the lead up being anticlimactic and just felt like the entire journey was pointless. This game strips everything that was good about the first game's story and defeats the entire purpose of everyone's character in the first game. Joel from the first game would have never even gotten himself killed like that because quite frankly, the Joel in this game is almost a completely different story. It's like the developers or director purposefully made him act stupider and weaker . It shows in full plain sight Joel dying but oh god forbid it shows Nora dying. What's creepy is the fact that Niel Druckman's self-inserted character is the one doing the M-rated scene with the other character. Nobody wants to play as Abby. Nobody wants to play as the character who murdered everyone's favorite character. I know I already said this but I need to say it again. This entire game was a farce that killed everyone's happiness in the span of almost a decade. Also take a look at the reviewers who gave this game a 10. You'll notice quite the pattern there. If the shortness of said reviews doesn't give it away. Expand

It had so much potential, could have had so much deeper meaning. The best storyline was about yarah and Lilly. A breath of Fresh air with secondary characters... and how about the main ones???!! Boring! Storyline is very bad. Why wouldn’t they give a player a choice? Like deciding who to spare or kill throughout the game would give different outcomes and might have at least given some joy in killing Abby. If this was supposed to be about vengeance, don’t you know in America that it is best served cold? Out of respect for part I, this was the first game I ever bought as a pre order. Lesson learnt. I played the whole game and I never wrote any game review before. But decided to express my disappointment the only way I can. Don’t get me wrong I played worse games than TLOU2 but with a masterpiece the first part was, the sequel is just the biggest let down of the decade. Feel sorry for everyone who worked so hard on Graphics as it is just amazing, it reminded me of Thief's End. Weapons bench improved a lot and hiding underneath the cars gave gameplay more options. Music, bigger world, layouts, design, actors play all great! They build everything as I hoped, mechanically and technically except the most important thing in the game- it’s narrative, and heart. I give it 3/10 cos games should be about the story and make the player want to play it over many times. I played First part like 10 times. Overall amazing Graphics cannot compensate for the whole game because if the story is bad, why bother to play. Update: changed to 0/10 after reading bottled 10/10 reviews Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Writing that prioritizes an agenda above telling a compelling story that respects already established characters. Weak game all around and not worth the asking price.
