    What an experience. completely subverted my expectations at every corner and made me ask myself extremely difficult questions. The ending will stay with me for months. I dont know what I feel. But its completely conflicting. I loved this game. I want to forget it . But I cant. 10/10

    The story of the game is one of the best of any PS4 games. It teach you that hatr only drives to more hate. Revenge only drives to revenge. During the story you will understand why Ellie wants to kill Abby, the other character. You also will ynderstand Abby's point of view and you will stop seeing her like an enemy. You will realise that both are the same. For me the game is perfect, maybeThe story of the game is one of the best of any PS4 games. It teach you that hatr only drives to more hate.     I get why people are raging against the game. It is different. This game is trying something that by all means takes guts. I am a fairly open person and with a couple of it's flaws, I thoroughly enjoyed the game. The main problem I think is that a lot of people are just following streamers and playthroughs rather than playing the game themselves.     My first review on Metacritic. Tlou2 is a master class of modern gaming. The story, voice acting and gameplay are amazing. You'll feel every emotion and this rollercoaster and boy is it worth every second.

    The skillfully woven story completes the first game’s narrative. It makes you regret all the pain you’ve cause people. And it is incredible. So many tears!

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I finished The Last of Us two last night. I thought it was good for the most part. Some of the criticism the game is receiving is pretty fair, some of it not so much, but also I think according to the developers plan. That would be my main criticism of the game, I think they went out of their way to court just about every type of controversy available to exploit and then dressed that exploitation up as a philosophical statement. They aren’t the same thing, they never have been. I found the gameplay fun and tense, the story was.... really over the top. I think the majority of players are going to have trouble pulling the emotional shifts the game writers are asking them to pull and so instead of feeling empathy for all sides, which was probably the intent, may just get tired and feel nothing for any of them at the end aside from a bit of relief that it’s finally over. Which is about where I ended when the credits finally rolled. I probably reacted a little differently than a lot of people will because I personally find it very irritating when someone or something is blatantly trying to manipulate my point of view or feelings, even more so when they don’t make any attempt to cover up that manipulation. So I was mostly checked out on the character investment by the time much of the second half of the game started pulling its punches. Still, I kept playing, and I did genuinely want to know how it would end but I found myself not really caring which of the main characters was going to be alive when it ended and that seems like an indication of a kind of failure to deliver to me.
    The first game was almost perfect, this one was still pretty good but it’s gone for an easier more low brow kind of impact and I think for that reason plenty of players are going to find themselves a little disappointed when those credits roll.
    I personally don’t have a problem with shock rock and that’s really what this game amounts too. It’s the Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson of video games. You can make good shock rock, and you can thoroughly enjoy shock rock, but for me shock rock can’t be a high work of art. It exists in a space that exploits a certain type of teenage rebellion and while it does that well, those 16-25 year olds grow up some day. The Last of Us was a definitive closing argument in the video games as art debate. The Last of Us part two well, that’s just shaking your fist.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Found this game just as ground breaking and captivating as the first. I rate it a solid 90% or higher and probably would have opted for giving it a 9 out of 10 but was so annoyed with all the ridiculous review bombing I’m giving the game the fair 10 it deserves. What Naughty Dog have achieved in relation to creating a sequel to one of the very best video games ever created has to be applauded. Sequels usually never live up to their predecessor and following the brilliance of the first was never going to be easy. But for me it delivered exactly the same captivating entertainment that made the first game something I had never experienced or expected within a video game. The Last of us Part 2 is a horror game; it is violent, shocking, unsettling and at times so claustrophobic I find myself scrambling frantically within gameplay to move ahead only so I can breathe again. But this is the type of experience that every horror should be able to deliver, and I feel it delivers it on an epic scale.

    Regarding gameplay I found it very similar to the first, characters navigate through a maze like linear world solving puzzles and kicking ass to unfold a cinematic story. The environments are absolutely gobsmacking and whilst there are strong periods immersed in beautiful environments and landscapes, you find yourself mostly navigating through a world far more grim and unsettling then the first. And this works, it totally does to deliver a truly horror filled experience. I found at times some of the subplots or searching of abandoned buildings for supplies felt a little long distracting from the main narrative. However there was no way I would not want to play the subplots or not search extensively for supplies to craft weapon upgrades and is a good reminder that we are playing a video game and not watching a film.

    I found without the violent death of Joel within the first few hours playing, the game may have never gripped me as tight as it did and have me wanting to progress relentlessly like I did. And I think had they created a sequel where neither Ellie or Joel died they would find themselves tiptoeing in similar ground. Well done Naughty Dog, get over it review bombers.

    Halfway through the decision to cease gameplay of Ellie and control Abby Joel’s killer, at first shocked the crap out of me. I felt a moment of reluctance to continue, however I felt myself soon in a position where I did not want to let Abby go. Amazing turn of events to experience within a video game and I think one that helps build such a memorising experience.

    For a game that follows such events as it does within the story I couldn’t think of a better ending, it was powerful and felt every way satisfying to close out the 30 hours or so of absorbing gameplay I had just immersed myself within.

    Just like the first this game exceeds the realm of traditional gameplay and delivers new heights of story telly much more aligned with cinematic experience and that’s why I feel it lives up to the first.

    If you enjoyed everything that was shocking and innovative about the first whilst appreciating this is a sequel trying to deliver the same experience, I don’t believe you can be disappointed. Get it regardless!!    … Expand

    I played the first Last of Us fairly recently, over the Christmas holidays last year and it quickly became my favourite game of all time.

    I can understand the 2nd one is controversial because of how the story went, but I cannot agree with those saying it is full of plot holes.     I would say that this story was meant to be in this manner During start I was angry
    Halfway through i was sad
    And then i was confused And then i was sad again By the end we realise that this was obvious The cycle of revenge, redemption and hatered. I was literally sad that this game ended IT IS A MUST PLAY.
    DON'T QUIT IN FIRST 2 HRS

Stealth, set pieces and whole open stages are all top notch. I played on hard difficulty which means ammo/gear is not as plentiful which made it suitably tough.

I suppose that helped my expectations as I had none, I wasn't banking on certain things or characters being the lead part of the game. I was just along for the ride. The craziest, bleakest of rides.
    I think the story is a little jarring at times and sometimes frustrating. But I felt it was bold and creative, I suppose empathy and grief are the main emotions here but also life, innocence and acceptance nearer the end. It's a very personal experience, not for the light hearted.
    I was genuinely surprised after I completing it and checking online to see other responses. Didn't quite believe "betrayal and disappointment" that people were posting. But to each their own. I enjoyed it and hope others did too.    … Expand

    A wonderful highlight in gameplay, sound an storytelling. It's hard to see an userrating of 4,8.
    One of the best moments in gaming I had in my 30 years of gaming. There is only one critic point for me and that was the trailerpolicy. There was a trailer that destroyed my feeling at the beginning of the game.

    Finished it a few days ago after taking it slow and not rushing the experience and nothing else has been on my mind since. The story is unlike anything I've ever experienced and the characters are probably my favorite fictional characters.     I didn't get the hatred over the game, I enjoyed every minute of it. The first one is one of my favorite game, and I had very big expectations for this game, but Naughty Dog delivered beyond this expectations. I get an emotional story with as much challenging gameplay as the first episode had, so thank you Naughty Dog for this experience!

    I've waited with my review until I had played the game till the end. I don't get all the flamewars about this game, it is without a doubt one of the most beautifully crafted games ever on the PS4, the detail level is insanely high, and the gameplay is top-notch.     But I also saw deep love and real friendship in really bad situations. It makes you question yourself... would you have done differently given the same situation?

    My guess why the rating vary so wildly? This game requires a mature view of life that is probably too much to ask of young people today. (I'm 55)    … Expand

It was one of the best games of this year I think the problem with the low audience score is that audience was overly attached to Joel and were heartbroken to see him gone in the first two hours but his influence still drove the game forward. The Ellie section was great the Abby section was kinda messy but still had some awesome and gut punching moment. The ending was bleak and sad and I loved it Overall I think every one should try the game once before judging it too quickly… Expand

    Definitely in my top 3 games for PlayStation along with Resident Evil 2 Remake and God of War. Some gameplay is annoying- with trying to find the exact spot to press triangle and progress the story but overall mechanics and story are excellent. I’ll have to wait a few years to replay though since it’s emotionally taxing. I can’t wait till they make this into a TV show!

The gameplay always keeps you on your feet and ready for more, each encounter you get with the characters is never a dull moment because they can play out in so many different ways and the graphics are absolutely stunning. Although the story isn't liked by many because they killed off joel in the very beginning and then make you play as his killer you start to feel empathy and passion for abby throughout the story especially when she meets lev and yara. That is when she really starts to change, although I can't say the same thing for ellie it is very emotional having to see her go for this quest for revenge and face off against abby after all that you have been through with both characters. The thing I really didnt like though was the ending. Although I'm glad that abby survived I feel like all the things that ellie has done and been through was for nothing. She killed all those people and in the end she cant even kill abby. But other than that this game was an emotional rollercoaster and I never had a dull momment with it.… Expand

You can really see the hard work Naughty Dog put into crafting this wonderful experience. The story is a lot longer than the first game (32 hours for me to complete) but it needs to be as there are a multitude of complex characters, all with their own story to tell and by the end of the game you really feel for each of them in true Naughty Dog fashion. The gameplay and sound/music continue where they left from the first game and really help set the tone for an incredibly dark, gritty and an emotionally exhausting experience.
    This game makes you question everything that you thought you already knew. One of the definitive games of the generation and probably of all time.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. ok this story is one of the best game story’s i have ever seen and it’s so powerful and neil really wanted to share a beautiful message with us but he probably didnt thought that people would be so judgy and fools so i’m gonna say it to u or how i understand it, so first of all remember how sarra joels daughter died at the beginning of the first game? okay the last link between him and her was his watch and he didn’t lost it because he didn’t really thought about revenge, ok now abby kills joel because he killed her father which i totally get but then she realized what she’s done and that revenge didn’t really make her feel any good infact she lost most of her friends because Her obsession with that, now ellie, after joel died she became really mad and all she thought about is revenge, she tried to kill abby she killed most of her friends and then walked away for a while, but she kept seeing joel suffering, so she thought if she killed abby she’s gonna stop seeing him, so she got after her Again, and now because of Her obsession with revenge she lost link between her and him which is playing guitar, and one more thing when she almost killed abby she saw joel one more time but this not suffering but setting on his house playing guitar in peace, that somehow made her feel like killing abby isn’t the solution, and after all revenge is a fool game. this game is getting unnecessary hate just try giving it a chance… Expand

    Let's start chronological with the Prologue. I think the Prologue is the weakest point in the games story. A prologue should introduce the player to the characters and story, sadly this prologue fails to do so. All the new characters stay rather bland, even Dina, besides you spend around an hour with her. Also Abby seems rather bland, while she is not when you play her later, she only hates Joel. Why? Who knows.

    So: Joel dies by Abbys Hand. Many people complained that Joel says his name which is out of character with the first game. Yes, this looks like it at first glance, again the prologue fails to explain backgrounds, you only the get puzzle pieces late in the story, like a conflict with Ellie and probable knowledge that a group hunts the both down. I think Joel sacrificed himself to save Ellie, thinking if they got him, they won't chase after Ellie. The last good deed he could do, to make her forgive.

    However after the prologue the story gets stronger and stronger. The writing is excellent! You play 3 days as Ellie with Dina and Jesse on your side, searching for Abbys group and then the past 3 days as Abby from her perspective.

    You learn all the characters emotions and reasons, though you probably never really agree with their actions. You understand them, but you might not agree with them. This is where the story gets so strong as it organically avoids a black and white thinking. There are no heroes and no bad guys, only humans driven by emotions like hate, revenge, love, sadness etc.

    You see both "sides" and you learn to like all the characters. You not agree with their actions sometimes, but you understand... It's really a roller coaster of emotions. Brilliant writing, can't explain it otherwise!

    The Epilogue and ending also show how much hate and revenge can destroy you and your relationships. The relationship Ellie built with Dina is destroyed over the fact Ellie can't let loose and have to hunt after Abby again, in the end leaving her alive, like she did in Seattle. Coming home, Dina gone, Ellie lost 2 fingers can't really play guitar anymore, the guitar Joel gifted to her.

    Really excellent writing! Prologue a bit weak, some later cutscenes should appear here, but keep going and you get rewarded with an amazing story!

    Also if you think there is some agenda here, you didn't understood the story one bit. The game more shows of violence is causing even more violence and how it and revenge and hate can destroy people.

    Also Abby is not said nor mentioned to be LGTB. Not sure where this got from, but only because she is muscular, means she is LGTB? I think not.

    Gameplay:

    Definitely a huge improvement to the first game. They took the first games gameplay and expanded it. You have more upgrades, more weapons and more possibilities to deal with enemies. Stealth and Combat are better to do, the encounter areas are bigger allowing for more ways and possibilities. Also you can now climb, swim and dive.

    While the game at it's core is still a pretty linear game, there is a hub area at the start and in general the levels are bigger as ever before. Encounters go very fluent into each other, while you walk around, explore and try to find the right way to go. Also you should explore to not only get collectibles, but also training manuals, useful items, upgrades and new weapons.

    A little downside is, that there are not much differences between Ellie and Abby. They have different weapons, but with exception of 2-3 weapons, they feel the same. Even the upgrades are more or less the same, just in different orders and skill trees. Movement is the same as well.

    Nonetheless so far the best Gameplay in a Naughty Dog game and definitely on par with other excellent AAA titles.

    Graphics:

    Do i really have to say something here? Amazing Textures, Models, Levels and Animations. Really an eye to detail. It looks gorgeous! Watch a trailer, what you see there, is in the game 1:1.

    Sound / Music:

    Perfect as well. Amazing sound design and amazing music tracks, still have a few in my head. Better as the first game as well, the composer really did an amazing job and surpassed his work of the first game!

    In the end:

    While the Prologue is the weakest point, The Last of Us Part 2 is an amazing game. The Story is really amazing, no "agenda" to be found, as said, if you see such a thing you didn't understood the story or outright didn't played the game.

    Besides that Gameplay, Graphics and Sound / Music are on amazing levels and the Game is just awesome! Play it!

    I give it a 9 / 10. Despite the weak prologue, the game is a masterpiece.    … Expand

Don't let the short-sighted anti-LGBT community dissuade you from what is arguably one of the greatest sequels for a video game ever made next to Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age: Inquisition, RDR2 and more! While the game's gameplay is fairly similar to part 1, the fact of the matter is that they've improved the enemy AI tenfold, added quite a few mechanics to the game as well as a new and interesting way to explore the environments around you.

    Honestly, people hate on the game because they expected another Joel and Ellie story ala Uncharted but instead got **** by the creators of the game and instead went with a multi-perspective take on life in this world and how pointless a revenge quest is in the first place! If you can't grasp the greatness of the game over shortsighted issues, then you aren't looking at the bigger picture at all! I think it was IGN, I'm not sure, but the preview said you, as Ellie, and your crew are not the good guys in this game. As a matter of fact, I will take a step further and say there are no good guys in this game. Just people doing bad things that are not as bad as the other people doing bad things. Everyone does everything they do to survive so can you really say there's a lot of room for morality in a video game with a the backdrop of revenge like this? Every decision has a consequence and that comes tenfold in this game. Anyway that little tidbit alone got me personally excited to play this game. Now I'm not a hypercritical person so I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the game. I'm not saying there aren't plot holes and bugs and AI incompetence. Those things exist. I am saying it wasn't enough to draw me out of the game and stopped me from wanting to see it to the end. By the end of the game I was as exhausted as the characters and I felt like we both just wanted to see an end. And when that end came I wanted more so I hopped on the remastered and booted up Factions. Can't wait for that to drop or any DLC for TLOU2. I recommend you to play it and let your opinions be the ones that guide you. If you liked the first one you owe it to yourself to give this one a shot.… Expand

When I heard all the rumours about TLOU2, I was really concerned and disappointed. I very nearly didn't buy the game, for fear of it ruining my experience of the first game. In the end I decided to trust in naughty dog based on their track record, and I decided to accept one particular early plot point I had heard about.

    In doing this, having the mindset not to resist the story, revealed the game, and its a remarkable one, but its also very tough to play at times. Characters you like are questioned and you are questioned about characters you don't like. There are many twists and you find yourself often doing things you originally wanted to do that now you don't, and the game doesn't really hold and punches. At the end of it, you feel kind of like you are left holding lose ends and it takes a while to process the whole thing, but I really do think that naughty dog have created something as profound as the first game. Ironically, given the themes, there are some that are unable to question what they think and feel, and their reaction is hate - which to me is life imitating art.

    I really hope that naughty dog find a way to round off some of the edges for these people (i think a very vocal minority) in some DLC - I sort of see why they feel as they do but i think it's for emotional reasons not rational ones - because I want a final game. TLOU1 sat well on its own, TLOU2 doesn't - it's the dark second chapter in a trilogy with an uplifting end. To end on the notes of TLOU2 would be deeply sad and hugely unsatisfying.    … Expand

When I got to Abby I just wanted to speed run because you know. You do eventually though get to empathise for her. It’s not enough though. Lev was a character I grew to love and hope to see more of. This game was to me exactly what I was expecting, a sequel on an existing story, staying true to the original lure and deviating enough to be new. I actually liked the story, it made me contemplate the cycle of vengeance and it's futility. I thought it was daring to depict the story from both sides, blurring the line between "good guys" and "bad guy". By the end of the game the fight between Ellie and Abby was a representation of the conflict within myself. And I love that. I thought it was daring to include a same sex relationship and go even beyond that (where funny enough nobody is talking about). I believed in the love story and that rare in videogames, usually I cringe. Not so in the Last of Us II.

    I liked the characters, yes also the new ones. I didn’t mind playing as the new character. I would even go so far as saying that without the switch in playable character it would not have felt as special as it does now. But I must admit that besides the handful of main characters, the others will fade from my memory soon enough. But a handful is enough for me.

    The gameplay has not changed which is a shame. And dont get me started about aiming; I could not for the life of me find a sensitivity setting which I could comfortly work with.

    The length of the game was no issue for me. Usually if I like a game I will spend hundreds (if not thousands) of hours playing it. So 25-30 hours, it will always seem to short to me.

    For me the Last of Us II gets a solid 8/10    … Expand

    The story is what defines this game and splits the players: its dark and yes, sometimes you dont even like to play, but its meant to be this way! Its part of the story to be angry and the game is making the player feel this way. The important word is empathy: if you are able to empathize with the characters the ending of the game will be incredible. You will be sad of what happened, but as written before, its meant to be a harsh and dark game.
    The Last of Us Part II is not a sequel, it just shows all bad things that occured because of the actions from the Original to us and with all consequences. Only if you are able to let the story change your mind and how pointless this whole brutality and revenge is, you will understand the ending. If you have an open mind and good moral, you will see the deeper meaning of this game. Then you learned something and you can go on forward, like Ellie does in the end :)    … Expand

    I enjoyed the game a lot! The visual part of the game is just awesome!
    The created world is very atmospheric. The game is much darker than the first part.
    The storyline surprised and made me empathise.

Игра показывает реальный, жёстокий мир, где главного героя могут убить как щелчком пальца. Где шальная пуля попадёт не в стену, а в голову Джесси. С точки зрения геймплея, игра на уровне Red Dead Redemption 2, а я напомню, что RDR 2 одна из самых проработанных игр.     This is a great sequel worthy of The Last of Us. Don’t listen to the review bombing saying “ItS bAd WrItIng”. It’s excellent, emotional, complicated storytelling. A few minor quibbles keeps it from being a ten (e.g., it’s a little dark, there’s too many human enemies to infected enemies). Overall, Naughty Dog knocked it out of the park.

    This game it isn't perfect, but most of the people that have posted horrible ratings, haven't even played the game, so that's why I put a 10, so the people that see the ratings don't have a bad first impression, the ending isn't that bad, yeah it could be better obviously, but it dosen't deserve the toxicity of all this xbox ****

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
