Nobody is immune to tragedy, not even the main characters - there's no place for storybook endings in their reality.
As for the plot - the story is not badly written, not by a long shot. Honestly, the way in which this story was crafted is nothing short of genius. Ellie and Abby mirror each other. While they view one another to be the villain, they're really one and the same, which calls into question the topic of right, wrong, and morally gray, all while serving as a powerful caveat for those who may be seeking revenge.

If you're on the fence about playing the game or not, play it. Truly, it's one of the best games I've had the pleasure of playing.

It is one of the few times in my life that I see an LGBT couple who, although at first disliked me, end up appreciating Dina more than I expected. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There were moments in this game that were uplifting and moments of darkness. You have Jackson where the biggest drama is bar and snowball fights. To seattle where life is tenuous in a multitude of ways. You get an insight into the relationship between Joel and Ellie. Which although flawed gives hope. I really struggled with Abby initially but once the rose coloured specs come off there are parallels you can draw between her and Ellie except we can see Joel smiling when she saves herself by finally not following through something that would haunt her. Joel clearly cares about her welfare more than his own. Brilliant scene that shows this in the hotel even when tensions were taught between them. You can even see Abby haunted by killing joel as her story progresses. I really would like LOU3 to continue the theme, but back with Joel. I think there is much more of a story besides him losing his daughter that drives him to save Ellie. I also think the story of the brothers could be a strong one surrounding the fireflies and the estrangement.

Finally, I'm not sure what all the hate is about, its uncomfortable playing as Abby initially but it pays off IMHO.

Thanks for a great story and am looking forward to a second playthrough.

I think the gameplay of last of us part 2 is really good and fun and I think the story is well done. However, having completed the game I can see why people are angry I would say if you haven't played this and decided to, the story might not be your cup of tea however I liked and I thought it was a good sequel even if it is not as good as last of us 1.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. One of the Greatest graphics, mechanics in the game ever seen. The biggest and one of the strongest Emotional spectrum of what game can makes you to feel . Love,Hate, fear, sadness, revenge taste, and even a depression of how strong this apocalyptic world feels real. Gameplay is great, Only reason why this game is not 10/10 is when you are like me who enjoys exploring every part of such a world and tries to take it as much real experience as possible with slow crouch quite walking and Pre - ADS aiming in every risky corner or area as you would do in real life if you would want survive ofc ... then you will get lil bit punished by too longer phases in between of story telling because as some people are saying its already long even if you run it like in Arcade which would definitely ruin real feel of this experience which other wise this world and game can definitely offer you on another level if we are not including RDR2. Another thing that makes me to not give this other wisely epic game full of revenge and post apo feel is for me atleast not sympathetic story ending which could have been done better or changed completely. But I think problem with this is the reality that everyone would act differently as a person in such a situation and its most likely not happening this way in real life with all the emotions that humans being can feel. So thats why I didn't believe Ellie would spared Abby's life right after she bite off her fingers with all those adrenaline and emotions it would not happen. And also i didn't believe Ellie could get over her PTSD because she clearly wasn't psychopathic person but highly emotional and all what happened and led her to that final last guitar play with missing fingers and Dina,JJ would probably be too hard to get over with her highly emotional personality so thats why even i sympathize with Ellie so much i predicted seeing her walking out (camera look from that window) commiting some suicidal act. Thats why I think there is so many negative reviews because people can't see that logic ending of this story because it made more damage than benefit to Ellie and her emotions, closer ones. But truth is thats how life sometimes is ,even the whole universe has no real deeper sense behind him and that's why I can forgive it to this story ending because besides it as a whole, it was some post apo revenge emotionally real feel experience ride. And then this game started screaming “Gay Rights” and I was in it all the way. An out gay woman traveling with her girlfriend?? Gay bookstores? Yes please! And then halfway through, when it became clear I was suddenly playing as Abby full time, I got pissed. I didn’t like her and didn’t think that could change. And then Lev shows up and my heart exploded. If there was a third game, please center it around Abby and Lev.

I’m not sure it has the replayability that the first one had just because of its weight, but if anything makes me go back, it’ll be the combat system. It is smooth, dynamic, and having enemies who are individuals that seem to think and feel is incredible.

It really is the greatest game of the generation.

I was furious about it. However after finishing the game, I accepted it. Accept that anything can happen to even someone that's strong. Some billionaires even fall and lives on the streets now. So why can't a video game character like Joel make mistakes?? Even if people are furious about the fact that he died too early. The character development for everyone else were amazing. The ending was another level of amaziness. Even though the game has some minor set backs., But it's still hands down one of the best games in gaming history. Naughty dog has done it again. The accessibility options were also wonderful. I get motion sick, so being able to mess with those options allowed me to play the game unhindered. The at mostly of the game was amazing as well. The intense moments were intense as hell, and the beautiful, breath taking moments were a much needed breather from scarier parts. And those death animations, whether from the player character or the enemy were VERY realistic. The animation team did a great job.
As for the story...A+. I grew to like every character (yes EVERY character)! The story surprised me in ways I didn’t expect and the characters were well fleshed out. I also appreciated the inclusivity in terms of gender, race and sexuality. Nothing was forced down my throat; ND introduced nuanced characters in a great way. The game left me emotionally drained because the themes were so heavy, yet human. Despite that, I can’t wait to start New Game Plus. I’m ready to be hurt again.

It´s not what you expect. It´s not like Part 1. But it hits the same devastating emotional points that make you question your actions and consider differing viewpoints.
It does this by putting the player in a lot of uncomfortable positions, which is something not done often. If you like it or not should be judged after you´ve seen the last scene, because The Last of Us 2 is a package that presents itself in its whole being from the first second to literally the last.
It made me happy, angry, furious, confused and questioning my own actions. This is a great game, and everyone who worked on it gave it their all.

Let me start off with a disclaimer so that nobody can make any claims about fake bot posts. I'm going to be copy and pasting my review I left on Google. Now for the review

All of the backlash against this game giving it one star is absolute nonsense. I beat the game last night, and can genuinely say it's one of the greatest examples of mixing gameplay and storytelling I've ever seen. The entire point of this game is to put you into a situation where you spend hours building up a specific mindset and reinforcing those beliefs, and it then forces you to reassess them and really think "Sometimes things aren't always as black and white as they seem." Every single one-star review is someone who just feels the need to call Naughty Dog out for making them actually evaluate themselves as a person and acknowledge their faults. If you genuinely just didn't like the story of the game, that's fine. Not every story can please 100% of people. But the visuals are amazing, the environmental design is phenomenal, and the voice acting as absolutely top notch. Even if you say you personally hated the gameplay to it's very core and not a single aspect of it was enjoyable for you, the game had no major glitches, was incredibly well put together, was visually stunning, and the characters all felt real and like they genuinely believed in what they were doing. That makes this game worth no less than two stars (I would argue three personally, but I'm talking absolute lowest possible review score) because at the bare minimum it works well and looks and sounds great. The fact that it has almost no 4, 3, or 2 star reviews compared to the thousands of 5 and 1 stars should show you exactly what's going on here.

The game obviously isn't perfect. Nothing is. there were a couple of small bumps here and there, and anyone could cherry pick a handful of instances to argue against the compliments I gave the game. It's something like sixteen hours long, nothing can be absolutely perfect for sixteen hours with absolutely no flaws for anyone when it's being played across thousands of systems with billions of variations in the inputs leaving potential for something to throw an unexpected wrench into the gears of the game's internal formulas for what to do and when. But the fact remains that as a whole, this game is a major milestone in gaming and is something every game should aspire to be

The Last of Us Part II is a perfect argument of games as art. It uses the interactive media in which it's presented to make everything much more impactful than the story would be if it were just passively consumed. And to top it all off, it's one of my favorite games that I've ever played.

People are crazy, they give marks without completing the game, supposedly there is LGBT in this game, I understand if Joel was gay, but Ally was a lesbian in the first part. Personally, I do not see LGBT in this game. As for Abby: In the prologue (where her father is alive) they show a non-pumped woman, it follows that she pumped up, because she was obsessed with revenge. Another fact: If the developers wanted to do LGBT, then they would not have made a love arch with Owen. And Dina is bisexual since she has a baby.

Environments felt realistic and traversing them was satisfying, though I do wish there was another large open area like downtown Seattle. The story was a rollercoaster of emotions and left me thinking about the ending for days. Characters felt fleshed out, though I didn't always agree with the I did understand their motivations. By the end of the game I was so angry and disappointed with Ellie after throwing her life with Dina away to chase after meaningless revenge, though I'm glad she learned how to let go of her hate in the final moment. Hated Abby at first, loved her by the end and glad Lev has someone looking out for him (but maybe give us a Yara/Lev DLC please?). I understand why people are angry about Joel's death, I was too but let's not act like Abby and her friend's anger wasn't justified as well, from their perspective Joel killed their family and friends and the last hope of a cure that I will admit was always a longshot but something they truly believed in. Anyway, of you're a fan of the first game, if you're open to being challenged emotionally by a game, don't miss out on this.

The biggest problem with Last of Us Part II is how it looses momentum and resets itself when the story shifts at a certain point. Not only is this section cover the same timespan of the main story, but it also resets the player to upgrade a character all over again.

If this segment of the story was appropriately woven in between the central plot, then it would be more reasonable to call it a 10/10 game.

The environments, world-building and set pieces are stunning, and the attention to detail outshines many other AAA games available today. The graphics are excellent, in particular the lighting and effect detail, and character animations are very well done, though can become repetitive after some time. The story is a bittersweet description of consequences and perspective in the context of revenge. Through it, we discover what compels people to seek vengeance through anger and their idea of justice, while simultaneously from another perspective, were shown that revenge doesn’t make you whole in the end, and doesn’t solve anything. It’s a haunting, gritty, and oftentimes brutal story that draws on the characters, organisations, and relationships from the first game, and develops them in a world that still hasn’t recovered from the apocalypse. In saying that, the pacing of the game at times feels slow, and some sections of the game feel out of order. Certain characters don’t get as much time as they need to become fleshed out, and ultimately feel a bit flat. In addition to this, many elements of the games story are nuanced and alluded to in such a way that the underlying meaning is obscured to many people playing (or reading) the game. Overall, this game is phenomenal, and thought provoking, and anyone going into this blind will enjoy the game it presents, and think a lot about the story it tells. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is one of greatest games this year, one of the best games in this generation and just one of the greatest games of all time. Despite all the controversy surrounding half-fake leaks without context, review bombing and baseless disgusting rumours and death threats, the game is out and people can now judge it for themselves. Let's see what it's all about:

Story: This story is brutal, haunting, harsh and depressing. It takes place in a world where there's no happy ending. Right from the start it shocks you with a powerful even that makes sense in hindsight. After that, a journey start, involving likeable characters with nice interactions between them, a lot of powerful moments and big twists. In the second half the game goes in an unpredictable direction, surprising you, making you feel confused, playing with your emotions. And in the end it all reaches it's climax. A brutal and exhausting climax, that capitalizes on everything that happened before it and leaves you empty and just a little bit hopeful. It's not a bright and cheery story, that's for sure and it can not work for some people, but it's not bad as some people would like you to believe. The characters are likeable, despite committing human mistakes and showing their darkest side in their worst moments. You can't just pick a side and stick to it, because this is a very morally grey world and a very morally grey story. Despite all the good moments, some things can fall a little flat and the story relies on coincidences too much. 9/10.

Gameplay: The gameplay is phenomenal. The game takes everything good from the first one and builds on it. Level design is nice and you can use fully to your advantage. Melee system allows you to brutally dispatch enemies and avoid damage thanks to the new "dodge" button, gunplay is satisfying and stealth is nervewracking, but very easy and is almost always an option. Infected enemies have multiple variations which require their own approach to dealing with them. Sections with them often have a horror feel, especially when it comes to a reworked "stalker" infected type. Human enemies use different weapons, can have dogs that sniff you out and can throw molotovs. The AI is pretty smart, they can flank you, cover each other, heal themselves and generally be a nuisance(The game was played on Hard difficulty). The game also has a bunch of unique encounters, which need to be experienced. Outside combat you can solve simple puzzles while exploring the world, find collectibles and resources and discover optional world-building materials and scenes. 10/10

Sound: The game sounds incredible. Be it the crunching of the snow under your feet, the sound of the rain above your head, gunshots, cries of pain and roars of the infected. Gustavo Santaolalla's soundtrack is beautiful, somber and haunting and definitely deserves mentioning. 10/10

Graphics: The Last Of Us 2 is one of the most beautiful PS4 titles. It's phenomenal from technical and design standpoint. The animations, the little details, the quality of textures. Everything is just so pleasing to the eye. It's not something I can describe with my words because I'm not good with technical terms, but you have to experience it. 10/10

I've only encountered a couple of very small bugs with textures or animations, that were really rare for 30 hours it took me to finish the game. In the end, I loved the game and would recommend everyone to play it. Unfortunately, I can't in all honesty give it the maximum rating because of couple moments. But the story is engaging and great, the gameplay is one of the best you can experience and the game just looks, sounds, feels and plays fantastic. A definite buy.

This game is a must play for those who finished the first. Even if you end up not liking the story, it is the next step in ellie and joels relationship and pushes that tense scene at the end of the first all the way to it's breaking point!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

In short, I loved it. There were a few lines of dialogue that turned me off or made me roll my eyes but the game itself is much more than that. There is plenty of enjoyment to be had from this game and I hope that others give it a chance. Even knowing key points about the ending, and feeling apprehensive about it as I played through, I never got to the point where I felt like it wasn't worth it to see things through. Two things keep me from giving the game a 10/10, one is a particular boss fight that is.... "stealth based?" which I did not have fun with. It was like hitting a brick wall as far as progress in the game. The other issue that I have is the play time/lack of replay value. While I enjoyed the game immensely I don't see much to do in a new game+ besides go through the story again which is something I might do years down the road but for now the case is just going to collect dust.

TLDR - was biased about the game, wife bought it for me, played it, enjoyed it, give me a reason to play new game +

The fond memories I have of the first game is what drove me to buy this sequel. I'll try to write with a general approach as to not spoil critical moments of the game. Going into this game I expected /something/ like the first game in terms of plot, but most of all I was just curious to see what the future held for Joel and Ellie. When "it" happened (if you've played the game you know what I'm talking about) I all of a sudden had an incentive and I was determined to follow it through. This part of the game also sets the tone for a lot of the game. It's not a happy story. It's quite a sad story about how one's goals can come at the cost of everything you hold dear. Yet, as I finished the game I thought the game could not have had a better ending. It's harrowing, but after the events that occurred throughout the game, I think this ending makes sense for all the characters, and I'm excited to see if there will be a Part 3.

I've noticed some people having trouble with there being themes of LGBTQ+ in the game. I myself was very neutral to this. Having gay characters and trans-characters don't affect my life, or my perception of these characters at all (other than the hardships these characters might've faced due to this, but that's a different topic). Towards the end of the game I became very happy for these characters, their sexuality wasn't even a factor into my being happy for them, just seeing these characters express happiness and love in such a devastating and dystopian setting made me feel genuinely happy and I was touched by this portrayal of companionship. I'm sure it means more to others than it does for me.

I do not want to spoil anything of the plot, as I think not knowing anything prior to playing the game really gave me the truest experience. Having my perspective and mindset challenged by the game was also incredibly interesting. I'd recommend this game based on the story alone and the emotional bonds you create with these fictional characters. It plays like a great book reads.

Other than that, I was astonished by the graphics and the attention to detail in this game. The atmosphere and sound design made me want to pause a few times due to the tension, but I felt it was part of the experience, so I endured.

Will play this game again countless times.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is everything that was promised. It's brutal, brilliant, forceful, important narrative that addresses issues of pain, regret, anger and hate and their corrosive influences on life and society. It interrogates what it is to be a hero or a villain and deconstructs our childish cultural assumptions about what it is to be either. People review bombing it can suck all of the dicks. They're the same petulant **** who didn't like The Last Jedi because they found their assumptions being challenged by the narrative, the very thing that great art is supposed to do.

I'd be willing to bet a Confederate flag or two that a decent chunk of the hate this game has received from melt minded one handed typers is because they ditched the middle aged white male protagonist for a diverse band of superbly drawn non stereotypes that did just as well. All this anger because your favourite character dies. That's what stories do. All this, despite the fact that Joel spends the rest of the game present anyway, floating around in Ellie's memory like some sort of sexy omniscient god. Or maybe it's the confusion about which character is trans? Must be the muscly one? Right?

**** knows. All I know is that it's only insanity or being extremely hard of understanding that could make you put this game at anything lower than a 9.

I, personally, liked the two storylines of Ellie and Abby(though I think Abby's storyline was carried longer than it should be). This is not the route lot of us, the last of us part 1 fans(including me), we're expecting the developers to take, but i appreciate what they've done here and I think they've created a masterpiece. The visuals, the soundtrack, the gameplay, the story(with some flaws) is awesone. The only reason I'm giving it a 9 is because I wanted to see more of Joel and because Joel deserved a better death Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The controversy surrounding this game is minuscule to the engrossing story. This has developed into one of those games that truly shocks the player and exemplifies the grotesque nature of revenge. Nothing can truly prepare you, that is unless you played the first game. I am very partial to Ellie and Joel's relationship but in the game's opening act sets up the premise of the game until the very end of it.

The story has always been the series biggest strengths and we get to see it clearly in display here. Naughtydog's finest. Although timeline skipping and dancing back and forth are not my favorite ways of storytelling it does have it significance in the stories of both the main characters and their motivations.

I can't say that in this game world society's biggest enemy would be the fungus or the infected but the cruelty of desperate people trying to survive. It is on a damn pedestal here so big that you see it in the cover art of Ellie's anguish face.

The game controversial Lesbian romance and the Tran-sexual character is not that distracting from the story. I myself wasn't even a fan of it but it didn't deter me from completing the game.

The horror elements were topknotch and the music was very riveting. The new infected were really scary and that area in the hospital with Abby was truly something out of hell itself. The fights stealthiness through human patrols and settlements was on the edge of your seat. Extremely satisfying was taking out enemies in stealth while snaking your way onward.

So while people are upset that one of the MC does die or being upset about the LGBTQ characters spread sporadically in with the story don't let them distract you from a powerful tale of revenge in a woeful world pitted against the remaining survivors. You can't please everyone but at least the game has done well enough in its own right.

And be mindful of people who review the game on launch day. They didn't finish it and are just going off of hearsay downplaying on bias alone. I just finished it today at a sensible speed and appreciate the game for what it is. Lots of hate for something they clearly do not understand nor were they prepared for.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is an absolutely gorgeous piece of art that is so polarizing. It’s amazing the immediate knee jerk reaction this game has gotten. I went into the game spoiler free, but I figured Joel was going to die at some point. And boy did he die. It was horrible and I hated Abby so much throughout the first half of the game. I couldn’t understand why she did what she did and couldn’t believe that ND was trying to justify her story. When I finally got to the Abby v Ellie encounter after Ellie’s Seattle day 3, I was livid that I had to play as abby. I kept on killing her over and over again, saying “good, you deserve this.” But then the story began to unfold. Abby was just a little girl when all of her friends (besides a select few) were murdered before her by Joel, including her dad. Not only that, but Joel completely and selfishly took away the worlds only hope for a vaccine. Still, I was mad at Abby. But then you begin to learn more about her friends and why they are there. You start to feel empathy, which so many people on this site cannot wrap their head around. Abby didn’t want to kill everyone, she wanted justice and she got it. She spares Ellie’s life twice. Ellie, however, is so purely blinded by a need for revenge, very similar to Joel when his daughter died. Abby also gets to that point when she’s about to kill Dina, but chooses a different path because Lev (like Ellie in the first game) is her anchor to reality. She shows mercy and breaks that cycle. Fast forward to the final encounter, and you’ve finally gotten your chance to finish Abby. But then something hits Ellie, that none of this will bring back Joel and she’s falling into this same pattern he feel into years before. She chooses for the first time to see clearly and show mercy, not only for Abby but for Lev as well. It is an unbelievably good story.

Gameplay wise, there are so many improvements to the first game. Cover systems, AI, attack patterns, and ways to go about completely an area are heavily varied. I played on survivor and some of the parts were crushing to figure out. Zombies can get released on bad people, I could go on and on. It’s so much fun

Graphics, Sound, and locations speak for themselves, they are unbelievable. I felt like I was actually on top of a skyscraper or in SB while playing. My only gripe is that I feel some of the minor characters on ellie’s side could’ve been expanded on, especially Jesse and Dina. And that some of the plot is shock value. But that absolutely does not take away from this work of art.

I truly believe this game deserves GOTY and would be extremely surprised if it didn’t win it after initial sales we are seeing. Anyone rating this game 0-4 is a basement dweller who can’t emphasize with different points of view and try to walk through why characters do bad things. This game will hurt you, but that’s the point. It is a harsh reality about a post apocalyptic world.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the first review that I’m writing for a game and I’m doing it because I just can’t let all the bad comments stand.

This game was something else for me, I found my heart beating so hard at so many times that I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I cried, I hated Abby but ended up understanding everything, I wanted to push Ellie so hard at the end to make her let everything go after seeing what happened to both of them.
I get why everyone is so mad at the developers and the writers but this is what had to happen from the beginning, all the death and the hate and the sadness had to come, along with us learning to see both sides as something good.

One of the best games I’ve ever played so far, I’m glad that everyone put so much effort into it and I’m happy that The Last of Us got such an ending.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I would give this an 8 or a 9 but I want to help get it a better score, because this is just ridiculous. Out of the 80,000 some reviews, I guarantee over half of them didnt even get the game. They judged it on the leaks and didnt give it another chance. I hear a lot of people say that it made the first game pointless. Though, the first game made itself pointless. They finally got to the place where they could make the cure, but Joel didnt want to lose Ellie so he killed the fireflies, making the journey "pointless". I understand the outrage over them killing off joel so soon and pathetically, however he had to die. He couldnt get away with killing all of those people, it was gonna happen at some point, so why not use it to spark a revenge story. The only thing I see wrong with this game is the fight against Ellie, I understand what they were trying, but it didnt work at all. Aside from that, I dont see what's so wrong with this game. Obviously it cant be as amazing as the first game, they weren't trying to do that. At the end of the day, a lot of people spent a lot of time on it. If you're gonna trash on it at least play it and know why you hate it. Honestly, great **** game Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

I understand it is not a game for everyone, however: it has an intensely harrowing and emotionally shattering story that may seem like a departure from the first game and is dependent on the player becoming at least somewhat empathetic to a certain character which may not click for everybody. Furthermore, the pacing of the story beats can be questionable at times, and could have been presented in a more succinct manner.

That being said, the production is stunning. From the graphical fidelity and meticulous attention to realism and detail to the breath-taking cinematography. It is a gorgeous marvel of a videogame. The acting is the best in the medium, as is the the musical composition by oscar-winning Gustavo Santaolalla. The sound design is phenomenal and really immerses the player into the bleak and haunting post-apocalyptic world of The Last of Us.

The gameplay is consisted of environmental puzzles, exploration, scavenging, and combat. Although I must admit I felt the looting became tedious at times, I understand its necessity in a survival game. The combat, on the other hand, is fluid and allows players to approach encounters with their own style of gameplay. It is extremely violent and every kill makes you feel the horror and brutality of your actions.

TLOUII is an experience which inspires discussion. I recommend it to anyone who seeks more in a videogame than just escapism.
