I have absolutely no idea what Joel did to the writers of the sequel that gave them enough reason to turn a hardcore, intelligent survivor into an angsty teen who doubts decisions anyone with a brain knows are morally justified while simultaneously becoming incapable of making smart decisions in ANY aspect of his life. They actively disrespected his character in a way that not only makes the second game unplayable, it makes me wish I hadn't experienced it because I'm afraid I won't be able to go back to the first and see it in the same way anymore.

This game not only has issues on it's own - it ACTIVELY DESTROYS any nostalgia you had for the first.

Don't get me wrong, the gameplay isn't bad (it's pretty much identical to the first with a few minor improvements so this was to be expected) and the graphics are great, which you'd expect considering how long it took to make - that's why I'm still giving it 3 points, but in a series that was literally defined by the story, when you take that away you're losing 70% of the game.

I ask anyone disagreeing to answer this: have you ever heard anyone recommend the first game because of the gameplay or the graphics? Or did you hear them tell you how amazing the story was and how they didn't want to spoil anything for you because it was so amazing?

The story in 2 is a dumpster fire of trying too hard to be deep. It's a 13 year old emo kid writing bad poetry convinced it's the deepest thing anyone has ever thought before.

    Avoid at all costs.

The gameplay of this one and the first one is nothing amazing, what made the first game so amazing was its story. Characters who you enjoyed and were interested in seeing where they go was the key to the first game's greatness.

I'm so tired of these woke writer's that are trying to appeal to an audience that is never going to play their game, this just leaves the people who will actually play their game feeling left behind. This wokeness will eventually lead to the downfall of the once great game studio Naughty Dog, just as it has happened to so many studios before them.

The story however does not seem well developed, contrary to what the fortunate ones who received the game for free and in advance say. It seemed to me that the game was forcibly stretched and when the control passes to Abby, the charm is completely lost. Other than that I felt cheated! All the publicity was done exploring the image of Ellie and Joel, but Joel is murdered at the beginning and half of the game is played with Abby, including the player is obliged to remove Ellie and space her. I think a great opportunity to build a sequence really worthy of the first one was lost. Expand

Joel and Ellie were a masterpiece and amazing characters which really drive story and emotions... what we got in this game was just... boring and unappealing. Best scene in the game are ones with Ellie and Joel.. which isn’t much. I bought a ps3 for the first last of us... this isn’t worthy of even borrowing if you’re looking for a good continuation of the last of us story. 1/10 naughty dog. You need to refocus on what makes games good...

Gameplay is a good though but the direction and forced statements and censorship just showed how ignorant they are.

It had its moments... it had a touch of emotion at the start but the whole thing feeling like a stupid lecture about: violence = bad at the expense of our favorite characters dying was not appreciated. You can tell the critics voted it up based on the idiotic politics of the game not the quality. Garbage game will not live up to the hype that was behind it. Waste of 60 quid in my opinion probably wouldn't have played more than an hour or 2 if i had it for free. Mostly forced myself to go through it. Moral of this story for me was never pre-order a game. I really felt betrayed and dissapointed when I finished the story. The first half of the game was great but who **** thought that players would like to play as Abby for +10 hours? This is Ellie’s story of revenge, not a gorilla girl romantic story. I trully believe that 2 monkeys could have written a better ending to this **** story. I feel that the Ellie we know would have killed Abby the moment she had the opportunity, we do not need this “revenge is bad” **** I **** hated the fight at the theater because I do not want to play with Joel’s killer agains one of the best characters in the game. Joel should have died in a different way, he really looked like a retard compared to what he was in TLOU, he really never trusted somebody but now its different. The only memorable parts of the game were the flashbacks with Joel. They executed those scenes beautifully. It is a horrible story that is standing on the foundation of its predecessor, believing that it has the strength to stand on its own two feet. I mean how can you kill hundreds of people just to let the killer of your best friend go????? Why did she suddenly grow a conscious? Especially for the person who has caused you so much pain? You killed hundreds already? Smh it doesn’t make sense. Teach Drunkman a lesson, don’t buy this game. All the rest looked like they were afraid to say what they actually thought about the terrible writing, baseless lies that were blatantly told to the public from Druckmann using a beloved character, and using big words pulled out of the thesaurus to not really give an opinion. So let me take my "passionate" feelings as Niel snarked about fans upset about the backlash with the game flooding this site with poor reviews and say my own. I am only giving this game a 2 and not a 0 because of the people who did actually work hard on the game and deserve to be given credit where credit is due. Everything else doesn't really deserve the praise its getting, this is 2020, we are about to go into next gen with the PS5 and XBOX X soon so boasting about "Amazing Graphics!", or "Really Fluid Gameplay!" and "Amazing Battle Mechanics!" mean literally almost nothing at this point in games, those things are expected and done just as good if not better by so many companies nowadays. What we as gamers pay 60-100 dollars for is an amazing story or an experience that we can walk away from when we are done thinking we got our moneys worth...yeah that didn't happen, not even close, I've paid 20 bucks or less for games I enjoyed more than The Last Of Us Part II, this entire franchise is bread and buttered by its narrative, but almost the entire time I was playing it all it did was make me pissed off, not want to play it anymore, or swear I am never buying another game from Naughty Dog ever again. The fact that I felt even one of those things is just beyond sad truthfully, especially following the first game and how amazing it was. If the people making this game cared even for a second about the world they had created, the journey you go on to become a family, make these connections and not about making money and trying to be edgy by putting in a "tasteful" scene which was anything but that and really just made Sony look like a hypocrite, we would have seen another out of the park home run game, but now after playing this I'm just checking twitter every few days to see people change there "story" about how this game really is or see that Niel was forced to take responsibility and let go; for his PR BS-a-thon he went on about so many lies we got told, most of which have been proven like the remapped characters that were teased to have larger rolls :/ Expand

    Ósea,MATÓ a Joel!

No. Ella deja ir a Abby.

But you would have to pay me to play this game again, and that would be a maybe. What they did with the story and how they just bent their knee to the SJWs is just absolutely pitiful. This game felt like a lifeless cash grab off the back of tlou 1, not only does the injected social justice feel forced but the storyline feels lazily written, rushed and out of order, not to mention the game forces you to play as the antagonist for half of the game and expects you to sympathize with ‘her’ through pathetic attempts to show ‘she’ is a decent human being when in actuality ‘she’ felt lifeless to play as and I couldn’t help but feel to put the controller down and stop playing. The ending to the game was was also a disappointment and overall just confusing as Ellie decides to let Abby go but mercilessly kills innocent people throughout the game to get to that point, I'm not sure if this was meant to show character development but it didn't come off as realistic or believable at all. Some of the plot makes no sense to me and felt like paper over the cracks during moments such as when Mel was assigned duty despite being heavily pregnant but was still involved with battles and somehow climbing ropes. There was a total lack of character development and the game did not give the player a chance to even grow close to any of the characters and to be honest not many of them were even likable. This game was not only ruined by the SJW, forced progressive hammer but lacked serious plot development and in all felt disappointing and a waste of a good opportunity, i feel bad for the teams of the game that weren’t involved with the plot as the game itself is stunning and the environments were fun to explore.
I'm glad the user reviews are highlighting this game's huge flaws and if anything shows that critic reviews are worthless as they only seem to rate the identity politics of the game, and not the game itself.

Stephen King is sometimes known to write excellent horror and mystery novels with bad or plain soft endings. Some TV series have been known to have won praise for its storytelling and realization, but with bad or sometimes silly endings, such as The Sopranos, HIMYM, Game of Thrones… Lately some Movies have been stained with the political agenda of Genre and LGBT propaganda...Toxic Feminism and useless political views. Examples abound.

Now, it is the turn of what it could be the greatest videogame in its generation. But that isn.t accomplished on the second part of the story. The first one excels, but this second one...it is an absolute disrespect towards the 1st game.
The story and the characters are so horribly written. The only thing that's truly great about this game are the graphics. And that's it. The quality of the story rivals the story of Star Wars VIII: The last jedi. And we are talking about a franchise-murderer movie.

It's full of hacks who tell terrible stories, and push political agendas where they don't belong. There was never a problem with gay or female characters in gaming before. The first game had gay characters and a diverse cast. We've had strong female characters who are actually more interesting since the dawn of gaming. Naughty Dog is not fixing anything. They're ruining the legacy of one of the best games of all time.
Neil Druckmann was right when he said that the game wasn't fun, nothing about this is fun, at a year where the world is completely miserable, this is what we get.
Also don't get me started on the meaningless ending, or the portrayal of characters from thefirst game.

It’s like they forgot everything that made the first one great. Every single character has zero depth, and some of them are forced down your throat. I did not found myself invested in any character, which sadly even includes Ellie. The best part of the game is the flashbacks. characters make stupid and unbelievable decisions, and the game is filled with them. I would list them here but the list is too long. I genuinely struggled to finish the game, that’s how bored and uninterested i became. it felt like it was put together at the last second, full of lazy ass writing and one dimensional characters. There is way too much to hate about this game. They constantly push the revenge is bad theme, and then totally sabotage it in the end. Lemme explain, abby kills joel because he murdered his father, and she lost all her friends because of it but still gets to live with his new ally, Lev. Ellie that lets go of the whole revenge, loses jessie, dina leaves her, gets her arm broken, almost gets beat to death, murders people and a pregnant woman that continue to traumatise her, ptsd and two fingers. Oh and tommy **** hates her too. It’s like she lost everything and she was the one that let go of the revenge. First one was a timeless masterpiece, and should’ve been left alone. Expand

The only thing surrounding this game is a veil of scandals and problems which is never a good sign. If the game is really good, has interesting characters, unique storyline, fascinating gameplay and fantastic game mechanics covered by beautiful graphics - you get Witcher 3, this game is nowhere near the faint ghost of such a solid experience.
Unfortunately for whatever reason the developers decided to take a perfectly fine concept of the first chapter and added completely unnecessary forced and artificial SJWing. Characters now are poorly written but appealing to somewhat trending SJW fashion of vocal minority. Whole game feels like forced love plotline from the last Star Wars trilogy between that Finn and Rose - poorly written, completely artificial and out of place, it is Game of Thrones final bad. And by the way they've cast Arnold Schwarzenegger as one of the "female" characters. No joke, there is a certain line between male and female even if the latter is a bodybuilder and is ripped af, that line is nowhere to be found, what they did was just take Arny's body and head-swapped the character. This game is wasted potential, ruined forever since it is canon and it won't be fixed like Sonic movie rendering for example. You know when the company actually listened about their mistake instead of insulting and aggravating customers? Like even EA did couple of times with Mass Effect ending and BFront2 and even somewhat BFV?

It is shame that game narrative and "trendy artistic vision" decisions are so bad that completely overshadow fine sound, mechanics, motion capture, graphics and other unrelated things that are actually ok. It is just like a tumor in the brain - kills completely working body.

Rent the game for 5 bucks if you like trash and want new kind of disappointment, don't buy for full price or on sale.

As for the media and reviews from media companies - they just doing their work to get money. You won't see them criticizing the arm that feeds them. If you want honest opinions - watch your favorite streamer review or read couple of honest metacritic users, or if your are immune to massive disappointments - try playing yourself.

That being said if you can stomach that horrible initial plot direction from the gate and try to appreciate the plot for where it was going you'd probably find the game very enjoyable and impressive until you reach the halfway point. This is when they force you to flip a massive birdie towards yourself and expect you to enjoy playing as a villain who is unlikable and you desperately want dead for the remainder of the game which is at the very least 10 hours of gameplay. You are then concluded with the hero and evil villain parting ways and more or less hugging it out making the entire story pointless for the sake of making you think about an extremely uninteresting moral dilemma that was not wanted and does not work. This is merely the result of a growing trend to force feed people political statements in their games instead of just crafting something for everyone to enjoy. Naughty Dog was the only company left that I held to a high standard and had unwavering faith in their ability to deliver amazing games/experiences and I am now left with no trust in game development. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This was at the end as like a footnote but i feel it needs to be here as its more or less my raw emotional reaction to the game and is needed to understand the failure to maintain structure in the review proper. I'm a huge fan of TLOU and was more excited for this games release than excited for my own birthday party. I tried to make this review impersonal but it just ended up being jumbled and weird. That's because, at its core, TLOU was a deeply personal and small story. It's hard not to feel angry and disappointed at what this game is simply because we can all see what it could have been. I don't even know how to express it. it feels just sad, like they took all the good things from the first game and laughed at them just to come back when the story needed a "Hey, remember this?" or "Well this is what actually went down." moment. For big fans such as myself, this game just hurts, but not for any reason (like a good story) i wanted it to. Anyway, here is my more formal review.

TL;DR This game is beyond a disappointment on all but one level.

So, first I'll say this. As far as gameplay goes, this game is what a sequel should strive to be. All the previous systems are back and improve/tweaked in some meaningful way that makes them feel fresh, creative, and, well fun. However, therein lies the crux of the issue. The Last of Us (TLOU) was never became famous because its gameplay was superb. Rather, it was the story which caused fans to fall in love with the game. One might think Naughty Dog would be able to, at very least, create some interesting new characters, have a few memorable moments, and just overall tell a decent story right? Well no.
None of the new characters in The Last of Us 2 (TLOU2) are even remotely as interesting, deep, or memorable as any character found in TLOU. They all either have one trait/motivation or are show potential just to be killed or squandered. Take Abby for example. Y'know that once character that's a bruit with a soft side? Yup, sprinkle in some revenge for motive that's her character. Even though she is the only new character to get any meaningful development, it's still that simple to explain her. Compare that to Joel. In his game, he is a cynical old man, a unforgivable human, a loving father-figure, a kind-hearted person, and more.
Even more forgettable than the characters themselves is the story. It was simply a boring take on a revenge plot that didn't take any advantage of the threads the first game left hanging until far too late into the narrative. For about the first quarter of the game, the player is just wondering, "Ok but why did kill Joel?". Then Ellie has a flashback with her talking to Joel about the Salt Lake City Hospital incident and the player is immediately able to understand Abby's motives. However, even though the player is acutely aware of this fact, Ellie is still in the dark. This leads to a long and boring period of time in which Ellie is trying to find WLF members in order to track down Abby and learn Abby's motives; which, again, we already know. It tries to treat the scene in which Ellie learns this information as the big it reveal it should be; but, again, the player has known this for hours.
But worse of all is Abby's side of the game. After killing all of Abby's friends and regrouping with Tommy in chapters "SEATTLE DAY 1-3", Ellie and her group are about to go home when Abby kills Jesse and corners Tommy and Ellie. The player readies themself for this big final confrontation when... cut to black. "SEATTLE DAY 1" appears on screen and the minor confusion from what just transpired is replaced by dread as the player realizes that no, that segment you played as Abby was not strictly meant to make you think Joel was safe, but was foreshadowing to the long and boring segments in which the devs attempt to get you attached to characters whom you have already killed. To their credit, a lot of time is spent on two side characters who Ellie never saw until the theater, however they are as flat as all of the side characters while basically sharing the protagonist role with Abby in her part of the story. They basically take her on what amounts to a side quest so that Abby is conveniently absent while Ellie's groups kills Abby's. Not to mention that the game has done a somewhat decent job at making the player hate Abby at this point.
All the reasons listed here only scratch the surface as to this game's failures. Bare in mind, I only went into depth on very small parts of the laughable narrative. I never mentioned the any of the "torture-porn'-like scenes which liter the game, I didn't even try to explain the circumstances around Joel's untimely end (I could have made this entire review around that one story beat and not have room to say everything which needs to be said), I didn't mention the overt political messages, I skipped talking about the dialogue, etc. A full deconstruction of this piece is a Herculean effort and that honestly saddens me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have never written a game review before, and probably never will again, but I feel compelled to do so for this game. The Last of Us was one of my favorite games of all time. I think for a lot of fans of this, many of whom are writing negative reviews for its sequel, the original was transformational in terms of what it did for the medium. It created an emotional impact greater than certainly I thought possible by using the unique features of the modern video game (creating a sense of investment in a relationship between two characters over a 20 hour-ish play time). I hoped (and during the first half of the game or so thought) the Last of Us Two would continue the pathbreaking tread. Instead, the sequel was by far the most disappointing game, really most disappointing media experience, of my life. My dispute with this game is essentially entirely with the story, as the graphics and game play are top notch. Or as top notch as anyone would expect from a game that was always going to be mostly about the story, as the original was.
The story begins with a compelling enough revenge motivation, with a beloved character being savagely murdered after being uncharacteristically chartable and trusting. Now, I know some people have a problem with the ham fisted nature of the death scene, both for its brutality and the uncharacteristic wa Joel walks into an ambush and gives away his true identity. But that could have been fine, as it adds to the seeming senseless of his death and casts him in an even more positive light than it might otherwise, as he is savagely murdered mere moments after saving his killers life. From this point, until the midway point or so, we have a relatively standard revenge story as Ellie and co go west for payback. This is paired with a very promising, but ultimately underdeveloped relationship between Ellie and her girlfriend, as well as Jesse (the father of the child Ellie’s partner is carrying). This had so much promise, but the games rush to focus on its true narrative hook prevents this point from being developed.
The second half of the game, which begins with Ellie and co getting ready to flee Seattle after recusing Tommy and learning that her partner is pregnant, is where the game becomes essentially torture via videogame. After Jesse, one of the view new and relatively interesting character’s is murdered by Abby, and Abby is threatening to do the same we are treated to a flash back. Of Abby’s youth. Remember, this is the same Abby who bludgeoned Joel to death, while Ellie—his surrogate daughter—begs for his life. It would have been hard, perhaps impossible, to make Abby sympathetic to fans of the first game no matter how hard they tried. And they try very hard, but it a completely bizarre and ineffective way. The put their best foot forward by showing that Abby is the daughter of the doctor Joel kills at the end of the Last of Us. This is a fine start I guess, but I think the author’s just didn’t understand the emotional attachment they were pushing up against. The whole effect of the compelling story of the Last of Us 1 was to make us care about Joel and Ellie, we emotionally identify with them as the player. So trying to redeem his killer, for fully 10 hours, is just never going to work unless it is done exceptionally well. And its not. There is a short scene establishing Abby’s relationship with her dad, followed by some rather boring sections with her as a WLF soldier, and her romantic relationship with one of Joel’s fellow killers. This relationship, told in about two scenes, does very little to humanize Abby or make us care. Realizing, as they must have, that merely having her dad get killed and showing that she had a boyfriend she sorta cared about once wasn’t going to be enough to even the scales for killing Joel, the writers through in a redemption arch. Which is a fine idea, if it wasn’t implemented in the most absurd fashion possible. After Abby goes AWOL to see her ex boyfriend, she encounters two scars, members of the enemy faction who we are led to believe she has been slaughter for her entire time in Seattle, save her from another group of Scars. So, as you do, you decide to betray the cause you have fought for years to save these two outcasts, at some point literally mowing down her former comrades as they lay siege to the Scar base. And, because they needed to make the Scar outcast story compelling, but obviously didn’t have the time (or the desire) to tell the same kind of detailed two sided narrative, the scars are outcast because one of them is trans and the scars kill trans people. Excellent. Rather than a compelling attempt at being inclusive, this just feels like exactly the kind of lazy good v. evil narrative that the whole dual Abby/Ellie story is supposed to put the lie to. Abby just comes off as evil, her redemption is absurd.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The downfall of The Last Of Us Part II is in its foundation. The developers thought that The Last Of Us was all about idealogy and philosophy. This is not entirely wrong as that aspect of the game was huge in the original. Although what really drove the first game was the relationships each character has with each other. Joel, Ellie, Sarah, Marlene, Tess, Bill, Sam and Henry are all connected naturally. The ideas the first game presents builds these relationships stronger. However in the second game the ideas it's trying to present compromises the relationships the game has; effectively taking away the game's essence. This is true as most relationships in the game felt forced. Majority of it felt like the developers were trying to reignite the spark they made with Riley and Ellie's in Left Behind. Sadly playful banters and meaningful scenes will not be effective without grounded reason in their relationship. The game did not show or explain why Dina liked Ellie or why Abby and Owen are in love; they just are. The Last of Us Part II also takes deaths and its shock value for granted as many deaths in the game were purely for shock value. Some examples are the deaths of Jessie, Owen, Mel and Yarah. I find it hard to see the reason to kill these characters apart from surprising the player. In the first game deaths of characters had meaning in them such as the deaths of Tess, Marlene, Sarah and Sam and Henry's. These deaths hold shock value but also holds meaning and reason to it. This shows the lack of priority the second game has for characters. If anything the game prioritizes Abby's character the most as her story tries its best to make her sympathetic to the player. Which I believe is the reason why many who play the game despises the character of Abby. Abby felt like she was forced to be in the game and that the developers were forcing the players to like her. The Last of Us Part II had a promising concept of seeing the sides of the people Joel and Ellie crossed agaisnt. This concept, sadly, was poorly executed. The community wanted a sequel to The Last of Us Part II. Which was supposedly a story now revolving on the choices the characters made in the original and its impact on the characters; especially Joel's choice. Although it was touched by the second game through its flashbacks, it really did not do anything significant to the main plot and was there to let the players feel teased of what could have been the true sequel. The best parts of the game were undoubtedly the flashbacks as it is the only part which really captures the essence of The Last Of Us. Despite having great graphics and ideal gameplay for the genre it is not enough to save The Last of Us Part II from having a low rating. As games like this are played for the story and not for the gameplay. Expand

I am very disappointed in this game that tried to "mindblown" us with its story but ended up hurting it more than else... I understand what Neil wanted to do, I just think it's a very poor execution

    The plot is very bad.....

The beginning and the end are disgusting players

A disgusting game that I don't want to play again. It just made me angry. I want to break it.

The game is terrible. They failed at this game and Neil Druckmann trolling people on Father's day is absolutely disgusting. I hope people see through this garbage. We hate the character of Abby and ND failed to make her a sympathetic character.

2020 has been a **** year and Last Of Us Part 2 is one of the **** thing, next to Covid-19. Well, at least Covid didnt make players waiting for 7 years for some kind poor narration and out of place storyline. Neil **** is China. And ND's LOS Part 2 is the worst version of Covid 19.

A painfully honest take from someone who loved the first game and went into the sequel knowing the leaks but was willing to give it a chance: The more you care about/like the first game for its story and characters, the less I can recommend the sequel to you.

The good: The graphics and natural feeling of the environments are simply incredible. The music is also great and I liked the use of the guitar throughout. The attention to detail when customizing your guns and how your character's expression changes when doing a takedown really helped immerse me.

Unfortunately, it was not a world I wanted to be immersed in. While most of my issues with the game stem from its story and characters, I will briefly touch on the combat: it's fine. If you're looking for vast improvements from the first game I think you will be disappointed. The jump button rarely got used, and while the counter system and being able to go prone expands your possibilities in combat, I found myself getting bored with the lack of variety of enemies, both human and infected.

Now the story... The "revenge is bad" narrative gets hammered into your head throughout the entire game, but the writing feels all over the place. The heavy use of flashbacks (excluding the fantastic ones with Joel and Ellie) is distracting and works especially against Abby. If we were given insight into her past earlier on and progressed through the story swapping between her and Ellie, I feel like her character would have come across as more fleshed out and perhaps even more likable.

Having to play as Abby for about 10 hours straight after knowing what she did to Joel and and Ellie was honestly torture. I just couldn't get myself to like her, and ended up hating her more than I expected after seeing how Joel saves her and Ellie spares her. If not killing Abby was "the right thing," why did I just spend all of that time killing countless people and losing the people Ellie cares about?

Simply put, I was really frustrated with the decisions of the characters and the entire story as a whole. If it was another game where story was less of a focus I would probably give it a higher score, but this is Joel and Ellie we're talking about.

Graphics don't make a goty. It's visually pleasing but that's where it stops. TLOU2 completely abandoned what made TLOU such a great game. The gameplay is boring and drawn out, and the story is weak at best. By the end I was rushing through it just to finish the game and move on.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved the game while we played as Ellie. The fact that she is gay actually makes the story better; more unique and original. But when we have to play as a character that kills our beloved character Joel, the game goes downhill instantly. They try, we cannot sympathize with Abby. She is a terrible person and we hate her. The fact that have to fight Ellie as Abby made me really sad. It was torture, like beating up one of your closest friends. And we don't get to kill Abby, which is absurd. They know that we wanted that, why didn't they give it to us? It's not the fact that Joel died, it's how he died. Brutally murdered and tortured. The people that like this game didn't appreciate and respect the first one enough. And the fact that Ellie loses her fingers and cannot play the song she wrote for Joel at the end, is heartbreaking. That was the only thing she had left of Joel; the guitar. At the end, Ellie is left with nothing. Her girlfriend and JJ are gone, and she cannot even play the guitar. Waited so long for this game. Such a sad, sad disappointment. I could go on, but I've ranted enough already earlier today. Please, if you love Ellie and Joel as characters, DO NOT play this game. Expand

.This game is a perfect example of why people sometimes hate sequels. It doesn't do a good job keeping up with the quality of the original's story. Most importantly, had not much fun playing it.

I hated the fact they killed off joel (one of my favourite video game characters), but I was willing to give it a chance because the visuals were amazing, and the gameplay was a lot of fun. If the game was just me playing as ellie seeking revenge I would have given it a 7/10. But I hated playing as abby so much it ruined the experience for me and it was topped off with what was probably the worst ending ever. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Instead of continuing with Ellie and Joel's story arc, they used Part II for generic messages about how war and revenge are wrong while ignoring the character development that was accomplished in the previous LoU.

The original characters were disrespected by the story writers and the characters decisions felt forced for a lazy revenge plot.
The plot that most players wanted to play through was reduced to 3-4 flashbacks.
Playing as Abby felt like a chore just to move forward in the story and fighting the original protagonist as Abby was appalling.

Removing a character's fingers to symbolize the loss of their last connection with another character because they can't play guitar anymore? A golf club being used as a symbol of the patriarchy? The story writing is so cringey it's a joke lol

I'm all for a game that supports LGBTQ+ but Naughty Dog using that to dismiss consumers negative reviews of the game due to issues only involving the story is the opposite of progressive.

I really liked the first game and this game does have a lot of improvements including the graphics, some gameplay, and the voice acting.

Don't make a Part III you've done enough to ruin the characters we loved in TLoU.

Самое ужасное в этой игре это то, что ни одного персонажа не жаль, они все заслужили смерть. Если выйдет третья часть, играть в нее не буду, играть за этого монстра в которого превратили Элли нету ни малейшего желания.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I will say the graphics are amazing, detailed and such beautiful scenery. The devs have pushed the Ps4 to its limits and I was in shock and awe how great it looked. The story however is slow, full of many nee characters which dilute the game down so much. I didn’t really care about Dina or Jesses love triangle that was pushed on me. Boy oh boy, section two playing as Abbey was a snooze fest. Neil Druckman, I don’t care about two sides to the story gimmick. I savagely executed 100s of people in the game, who had no links to Joel and the only person you cannot kill the Abbey!!? Wtf

The game’s storyline is poor and wasted. The game wants you to feel sorry for abbey and play to your conscience...yet forgets how many scars and WLFs you butcher...

Save your money wait until it is cheap

I am not against any LGBTQ or any promotional bs, but doing it wrong and disrespectful is another story. I was promised a game with Joel in it because before this game came out, the ads and trailers showed lots Joel and Ellie action, but then the game came out and Joel was killed within two hours of gameplay, afterwards we are forced to play Joels killer to see her side of the story for 10 excruciating hours. I have no problem with Joel getting killed off, but how it was written and how it was executed was poor. I was promised a game with more Joel and Ellie action. Overall disappointment. Next time you advertise your games, make it legit and not this false promotional garbage you presented to me. Expand

A game that is way too centered around unnecessary agenda that should not be prioritized in a game. A game should deliver its player base enjoyment, not force some views upon them. This game destroys the Original Franchise and is one of the if not the worst sequels to a wonderful first Part. Last of us 2 is truly a bad game.

I am still obsessed with the first game and would say it’s the best PlayStation game of all time, the disappointment while playing part 2 was unreal and the only reason I finished it was because I loved the first game so much and wanted to continue playing because I had waited 7 YEARS to play a second game. This
Is not the game we wanted. So gutted it’s unreal.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
