    There is a decided lack of black reverence and worship in this game. In stead of embracing the KINGS of Africa that the black man are, they chose to show women loving one another rather then black kings inseminating white women as it should be.

    This is the worst game I've been waiting for ... A HORRIBLE plot, drug use, LGBT people, the murder of the main characters. Do not buy or waste time on this game.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You couldn't make a worse sequel to the best game ever made if you tried. Naughty Dog is comprised of sadistic human beings that hold no moral values. In the first game we are tasked with ensuring the safety and survival of a young 14 year old MINOR girl. We play as both Ellie and Joel, who meets Ellie after losing his daughter who was roughly the same age. The original game is designed to make you feel like you are a PARENT to Ellie and the story and script truly make you care for these characters. As we watch Joel and Ellie struggle to survive the world and eachother the story brings the two characters closer together until they become inseperable. Flash forward to the sequel which was released 7 years after the original. Ellie is now 19 and despises Joel for saving her life. Regardless of how much they have gone through together and how strong their relationship was at one point they now seem distant. Near the beginning of the sequel we find out that our daughter that we worked so hard to raise and keep safe in the first game is now a lesbian. Which I have absolutely no problem with and I'm happy for her. What I do have a problem with is having to watch a lewd intimate scene that involves a young girl whom WAS 14 YEARS OLD THE LAST TIME WE SAW HER. Shortly after they decide to kill Joel in the story whom was one of the most respected video game characters ever created. They then decide to rub it in your face by having Ellie go to his house directly after which is filled with memories of their time together. After this the game and story become very linear and shallow. The issue is that all of this happens at the beginning of the game and really leaves no where for the story to go, no room for characters to grow etc. It feels like way more of a grind than an adventure very unlike the first game. All I really have to say is that Joel was a good man and a hero. He did not deserve to go out like that. Naughty Dog didn't just kill Joel though, they killed the entire franchise.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Seven years I waited for this sequel, with really (way to much) high hopes and anxious. I loved the first game, it was amazing and for my twelve-year-old self; mind-blowing. But suddenly I get a sequel where not only they kill the favorite character -which they used in the trailers knowing the amazing reactions they would have-, any type of character development and growth was lost within the first two hours into the game. Am I mad? Not anymore. Disappointed? Hell yes.

    Joel's character, an 'old man' that in the first game could recognize an ambush anywhere and never trusted anyone to give any type of information that could kill him, suddenly is al friendly with someone HE SAVED (not the other way around). And when everyone starts to look skeptical after he said his name; he just stood there? Waiting for them to react instead of doing something? No, that's not the same Joel from the first game.

    I won't talk about all the LGBTQ community and SJW thing because I don't care about that, I really don't. Ellie is homosexual? Okay, that's fine. Levi was a trans character? Cool. I really don't have a problem with that, so I'm not going to rant about it.

    But it pisses me off that this game tried to make me feel sorry for Abby's character, when in reality, all I wanted to do was kill her. I wanted her dead as soon as she attacked Joel, even when I didn't know what he did to her. If you kill my favorite character, and make me play half of the game chasing this woman (with an unrealistic body that tried to "represent all women"), and then suddenly I'm playing as her; I will let her die many times in the gameplay, and still want her really dead at the end. She has no purposes more than revenge her father's death, and suddenly she has pity for a woman and her trans brother (which again, I really don't mind him being trans). Everything is just a mess, nobody feels sorry for her character and her past.

    Not to mention the messed up timeline. The players bought the game hoping to play not only with Ellie, but to see the relationship of her and Joel growing even after he lied about the Fireflies. And what did we get? Some poor flashbacks that only makes you even more mad with his death, the worst one being the last one. That's it? They talk about "trying to forgive him" and next day he is dead? Nah, man, that's crappy.

    The ending was just so... unnecessary. Why would I let her go? Why would I ever spare her after everything Ellie had to go through in the game? That's just crap. I did not kill every person that was in the room when Abby killed Joel, only to forgive THE ONLY CHARACTER Ellie wanted dead. Let's remember that she also almost killed Tommy, and that she was about to kill Dina without giving a flying damn that she was pregnant. The player spent 27 hours of gameplay and cutscenes, just to "Go. Just take him". If this game was about revenge, let me tell you; Neil Druckmann clearly failed.
    I only gave this game a 2/10 because of the amazing graphics that had me in love with the visual. And the gameplay, the weapons and their upgrades were just excellent. It really sucks that they decided to ruin the storyline; this game would have been a masterpiece (as a lot of critics reviews said, not the users tho).    … Expand

    I had really high hopes for this game. And it has some great things going for it! The environments are beautiful and supremely detailed. The graphics are very pleasing, and some of the writing is pretty good. That being said, I feel very bad to give it such a poor rating. But I do have a lot of problems with this game.     Best graphics and gameplay but worst story telling. The last 5 or 6 hours are absolutely awful. Characters are like tools of the scriptwriter all the time and make no sense. If you haven't played the Part 1, maybe you can try, but I don't really recommend it personally.

    As someone who absolutely adored the first game, I genuinely want to throw up from how disappointing part 2 is. I waited for this sequel for 4 years (some people have waited longer), and I talked it up so much, it pains me deeply to write this review. A 4 is probably the most accurate rating this game deserves. The good parts:

    -The music is incredible. Their music composer, Gustavo    As someone who absolutely adored the first game, I genuinely want to throw up from how disappointing part 2 is. I waited for this sequel for 4 years (some people have waited longer), and I talked it up so much, it pains me deeply to write this review. A 4 is probably the most accurate rating this game deserves. The good parts:

    -The music is incredible. Their music composer, Gustavo Santaolalla, the same person that made the first game’s music, is a genius. The music is very emotional and aids what’s happening on the screen perfectly. -The sound design is definitely pleasing and not unrealistic in the slightest. Everything, even things you wouldn’t expect to have a sound have one. They’re very crisp and make the game that more enjoyable. Sound is a huge factor in a game, and in this one it’s fantastic.

    -The graphics are nothing short of beautiful. The textures are realistic and very lovely to look at. The look of the characters are the most believable I’ve ever seen. Definitely some of the best, if not THE best graphics right now. -The atmosphere is outstandingly well made. Being in a city, traveling through a forest, being underground, and traversing through abandoned buildings are just a few examples that are authentic to real life. Nothing is worse than not being immersed in a game. This one does it perfectly. -The animations are the best you can find at the moment. It’s incredible how much work was put into perfecting the animations. There can be so many different animations for one action, it feels so nice to play. The way the characters move and overall feel is extremely realistic, I never once doubted it.

    -The level design is easily the best on the market. Every single scene is different. The insides of buildings to the forests are so well detailed, you can tell how much heart and soul they put into it. The variety of structures and areas to explore is outstandingly well crafted. It’s a huge breathe of fresh air and very fun to explore. -The acting is better than most movies. I said it. The actors Naughty Dog hired are extremely talented. Mainly Ashley Johnson, aka Ellie. She needs to be a main character in a movie, c’mon! The game’s cutscenes are honestly like watching a movie too. Their screams, cries, and overall tone of speaking is perfect for what’s happening on the screen. Easily the best acting in a video game to date. -The versatility in the gameplay is fantastic. You can use so many different items at your disposal to utterly destroy your enemies, or sneak right past them as if you were never there. The choice is up to you. You can go prone, cut through tiny sections in the walls, and jump across platforms. It feels very smooth and grounded, and there never once is a dull moment in the middle of battle.

    -The enemies are so well programmed, they feel real. The things they say and how they approach to killing you is great, and very stressful at times! This includes the infected enemies, not just the human ones. -I didn’t encounter one single bug throughout the entirety of the game. Bugs and glitches can really break the immersion in a video game, believe me. Thankfully the testers knew what they were doing and made sure the player never encounters them. Can’t say the same for a lot of other games.

    -This game is 30 hours long. That’s very good for a story driven game.

    Now, with all these pros, how could this game possibly be a 4? Here’s how:

    -The story -The characters and the development of them. How could such a minimal amount of things possibly make this game THAT bad? I ask myself the same thing. How, after all those pros, Naughty Dog managed to mess up the most preordered Ps4 game of all time? It’s simple. A bad story can break a game. A good story can make a game. Unfortunately, this game has a bad story. The entirety of the first game, we’re spent bonding with Joel and Ellie. They are what MADE the first game. The story in the first game is arguably one of the best ever made. In this sequel, their relationship is practically thrown away. The potential this sequel had with such legendary characters like Joel and Ellie could’ve made this game go down in history like the first one, too bad their relationship is not even utilized. Joel is basically a side character in this game. The execution of some scenes were very, very poor and simply mediocre at best. It’s hard to describe the bad parts of this game without spoiling anything, but I’m trying my best. How some characters act is completely and utterly unrealistic to this world and to them, which totally breaks the immersion and your heart at the same time. 40% of 30 hours is the amount of time you’re spent playing someone you absolutely hate. Let’s not forget the ending. The ending is easily the biggest part of a game. If you screw it up, you screw the whole thing up. That’s what they did. It’s so unsatisfying and disappointing, I cried from how much I disliked it. My heart is aching.    … Expand

    First off, the game play was great, visuals,voice acting and world is freaking awesome. If you really enjoyed the first game like I did, DO NOT ruin the story with this trash. The story for the second one is terrible, I'm completely disappointed.

    Badly written. Waited so many years. Wanted this to get me through the end of quarantine and was so excited. The game is SO morally confusing. Just a game of revenge, not fun, not exciting. I was so bored playing it. Not what I expected at all. I give it 1 because the graphics were good. Feels like a Marvel movie. Great graphics, no substance at all. Very sad.

    I purchased this game in October after seeing some of the first gameplay highlights. I was so excited to see what would come of the sequel to one of the best games of all time. I. quickly purchased the collectors edition. Game is delayed, then delayed again. The leaks come out and I take a look because of my anticipation. I was so excited to see what would come of the sequel to one of the best games of all time. I. quickly purchased the collectors edition. Game is delayed, then delayed again. The leaks come out and I take a look because of my anticipation. Why does Joel die so early and in such a humiliating way? Why are the characters so bland and boring? Why did they throw away the consistent story for a petty revenge plot with holes everywhere that. just doesn't make sense? How did this take so long just to have it come out half baked? The gameplay hasn't changed at all since the first game, everything is virtually the same since the first game but with better scenery and a few. new mechanics. That doesn't mean the gameplay is bad, it's very average and enjoyable, especially when fighting human enemies and constantly running in and out of stealth, similar to uncharted. The game has somewhat open worlds, similar to lost legacy, where they give you an area to explore that's somewhat big but doesn't take more then 10 minutes to pick clean. I was very disappointed with the turn out of this game. The ending is terrible argumentatively speaking, there is no point in Ellie forgiving Abby, it is simply something absurd objectively speaking, the qualification is for the story, something in which The Last of Us shone, all the feelings and the bond that we unite with the characters it disappears, they throw it away, a waste of new characters. The gameplay is very good but there are still problems with the AI, but I insist that you cannot throw away everything you built in the first part, wasting many of your new and old characters for a goal that you finally did not meet.     This is such a lazy story it’s really sad how little of an effort was put into writing this games story you don’t have to take my word for it do yourself a favor look up the game on YouTube and see what several trusted reviewers are saying the only points this game gets is for graphics utter disappointment.

What made the first game good got taken away in the first two hours and then the game forces you to play as the character that kills Joel. If that doesn’t make you have no motivation to continue the game, than the whole purpose of the game, revenge, doesn’t even happen. Ellie let’s the person who killed her father figure live. The story telling is beyond terrible and the game should not be played by anyone who enjoyed the first game.… Expand

    The graphics is great but that doesn't justify the poorly written narrative of the game. The story doesn't connect to the first game, badly written revenge story, no character development, players are forced to do stupid decisions and it clearly runs on agenda which hits a very big nail to the game

This game should have been good and i do believe that it is a good game but only if you have not played the first game. The quality of the voice acting is amazing, the graphics (at least on the PS4 pro) are great and i think the environments from the aesthetics of each location down to the environmental storytelling, through notes and such, is done superbly. Hell actually playing the game is quite fun. Where this game lacks is its prime narrative.

    The last of us part two is entirely unfaithful to the characters that were set up in the first game. If your reading this review i am sure you already know that Joel dies. This alone has been a very controversial event and i want to break it down a little bit. People are not angry that Joel is dead. Everyone knew he was going to die, i didn't see any of the pre-release spoilers but i knew Joel was going to die. It makes sense in this world and for his character. the previous title already made it very clear that Joel is a man who has very few moral lines left to cross, who has done things that will mean his hands will never be clean. It makes sense that something from his former years will catch up to him. What has pissed people off is the way they handled his death. I think its very naive of naughty dog to think that killing off one of the most beloved characters in gaming would bring anything but backlash.

    Games are a medium which need to, to an extent, evoke emotion and that is one thing this game dose not lack. I was sad, angry but mostly disappointed that such a massive personality in gaming would be removed in such a half arsed, brutal way that is handled so poorly. Joel as a character that we are invested in deserved a better death that being helplessly tortured in front of Ellie, before having his brains bashed in. So your telling me that the continuation of the story, that literally gave me faith and respect for the artists (Devs) that create in this medium, is over. Just like that. bang! done! That is it. One of the most compelling plot devices and relationships in the whole of gaming is done. And maybe i could have forgiven that. Maybe it could have been a good way to drive us as the player and really, really explore what hatred, anger and revenge will do too someone and the consequences of these actions and at first i thought that, that is where it was going. And to an extent they explored this with Ellie's torture scene and the killing of Mel, Abby's pregnant 'friend', and yes it did go further as you see Ellie after coming back from Seattle is suffering from PTSD but this didn't go far enough in my opinion.

    I think that one of the key failures of this game is that its trying to be this big sweeping narrative where the bad guys can also be the good guys and vice versa but it just dose not work and it falls flat because we as the player do not care in the slightest about Abby and her motivations. i actually thought Abby's motivation was actually handled quite well. i think that this game being so heavily linked to the firsts ending is a very good idea. but once again we don't care about her. It dose not matter how many sad flashbacks there is or how many zebras you save with Abby's dad. The player, especially if they have played the first game, automatically hates her. And the game has the audacity to push into playing as her so you feel some kind of emotional investment in her as a character but by that point its too late. She has already been portrayed as a **** evil, psychopath which if anything is only supported once you have finished her game-play section. In my honest opinion the third and forth acts where you play as Abby are awful and so uninspired.

    Now the ending. Oh my god.
    I wont be commenting on any specifics as the final act of the game was not reviled in the leaks from a few weeks back but all i will say is its **** There is no conceivable reason as to why ellie would act the way she dose at the end and yes i know its a commentary on revenge and how a path of revenge will only lead to your own downfall. Its a play on the saying "If your going on a path of revenge, dig two graves" but i still feel this falls flat.

    Basically i gave this game everything i could. i tried very hard but it has failed. And one of the worst things about it is that it makes you go through a emotional roller coaster with absolutely no reward or sense that the story is finished. the best parts of this game are Ellie's flashbacks with Joel. So my plead to naughty dog is this. De-canonise this game and do one of three things. One: never ever touch this IP again, Neil cannot be trusted to write another of these games. Two: remake it and tell the story how it should be told. Three: if you do make another game set it as a prequel to part 2 because the flashbacks that explore Joel and Ellie's relationship are the only truly good parts of this game.    … Expand

    This game takes everything you loved from the first game and destroys it. Not only that, but in order to tell the story in The Last of Us Part 2, the characters are forced into nonsensical and ridiculous situations. They behave entirely differently to the characters you remember from the first game. It reminded me of Game of Thrones Season 8, where characters are forced to behave nonsensically to push the narrative forwards. It is much the same in this game. The new characters that are introduced are utterly unlikeable, no matter how much the game is begging you to like them. As a side note and from a female perspective, I am also fed up of 'strong female character' = 'muscled, unemotional she-man". There are strong female characters that maintain their femininity in gaming such as Ellie in the first game and Lara Croft in the new tomb raider series. Female characters can be feminine whilst still being strong, we don't have to adopt a ton of masculine traits and I wish game developers would realise this. I want to play as characters I relate to and unfortunately the characters completely fail in this game.

    The graphics are stunning, though they have made some character models, such as Ellie, far uglier in Part 2. The gameplay is much the same from the first game. Unfortunately the story makes this game unplayable and left a horrible taste in my mouth upon completing it. I would rather pretend this entry into the franchise doesn't exist and have The Last of Us as a standalone title.    … Expand

Joel dies in the first hour of the game u play 50% of the game as Abby the person who killed Joel. Joel the character we all love die a slow slow and painful death from a golf club. Ellie try revenge Joel the ending is just silly. The ending is that u finally get Abby and u have the opportunity kill the person who killed Joel and not only Joel almost all people u cared and what u do u let this person go. Yes u let the person who take away everything u had everything u love and u keep only this person alive all people who helped Abby are dead but u keep Abby alive. Also Abby bit off 2 of your fingers at the end of the game so that Ellie can't even play her Guitar anymore the only thing she cared about because this guitar is from Joel so Abby take away all happiness Ellie had but Abby can live a happy life now why? Also the gameplay isn't so much better than part 1 and part 1 had a simple mediocre gameplay. So yeah I would give TLOU part 1 a 7/10 and part 2 a 0/10 because the story and characters the things what made TLOU so special are bad awfully written in part 2.… Expand

I am a big fan of the first game as it shows the character growth between these two individual who have lost their faith in the world. How they connect and start to respect and have this care for one another really was amazing to see unfold. Sadly the second game in this franchise has crashed. This is the most visually and best sounding Game I have played on the PS4 let alone any game in recent memory. Ellie’s determination to seek revenge is one a lot of the fans got behind with what unfolded in a certain scene. Sadly the story falls flat and we are expected to play as the character who made Ellie seek revenge. Let alone for 10+ hours as her. In my personal opinion she is the worst part of the game. It feels lacklustre playing as her and trying to get us to feel certain emotions for her just simply don’t work. As a big fan of this franchise I was hoping for Ellie’s and Joel’s story. I did feel for that unfortunate scene to take place in the beginning hours but Joel’s death should of been / meant more. Having his death done the way it was, was unnecessary. It felt like it was only done as a shock value moment. The story could of been amazing and the risks could of been greater. Neil. I don’t know what you were thinking and how you thought this was the correct way to tell such an impactful story but your way off the mark. Do the fans a service and really look into what we all have to say. Fix the ending. Fix the narrative. By the end of the game it all felt pointless. There wasn’t a means to the end. If a third gets made. Maybe take a back seat. I’m sure you are a great and respected person in your industry but don’t spit in the fans face with this story. Maybe look into something like Mass Effect 3 and put out a patch to fix the mess it is currently.     The game is 10/10 in all aspects but the story.. which is truly disappointing since it's the main focus of the game! We get it. every person isn't purely bad or good and revenge is bad but it just feels very heavy handed and forced in. Honestly The flow of the narrative is not natural as the first game!

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. gameplay fine nothing new the music, graphics, locations fantastic level design ok in some and others do not some feel too long to the point where I just run through everything till I hit the next checkpoint. the fall of this game is its story. the first game gave me the trolley system save one or save many but that one is a loved one that you traveled with got to know and grow a bond with and living with the choice you made .this game makes your loved one be killed in front of you go out for revenge and face the reality of that choice fine to that point. then you get the perspective of the killer and her friends after the event which makes no sense trying to make me like this character that I hate so much already. playing threw her perspective actually made me hate her, even more, didn't make me feel anything for her or her friends than to make us play as her and beat the living **** out of Ellie the main character the reason I am playing this game. In the last part, we go back to Ellie go back to hunting the killer and then letting her go at the end what was the point in it. that last part felt naughty dog studio trying to sell me a tired game.… Expand

I could relate so much to Joel and Ellie in the first one, here everything is just upside down, you play as a character you know nothing about, can't sympathize, ended killing your favorite character. But you don't get to kill her back to complete the revenge???!! Where's the satisfaction in that???!

The only really good thing, besides the upgraded although almost useless gameplay, are graphics which don't make a game and should be considered just as a bonus.     This game got awfully repetitive. Years ago, I read the IMDB trivia where Neil Druckman stated, "While the first game was about love, this game will be about hate." I wondered what that meant. Now that I have experienced it, I realized this isn't something I want to experience anymore.

    On a positive note, they did a great job with being more inclusive to LGBT and racially diverse characters. But they deserved better than this.    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
