    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the worst game I've played in the last decade. I was a huge fan of the first game, and played it on release in 2013 on the PS3. I've played the remastered version on the PS4 13 times on record, and it remains one of my favourite games of all time.

    This game seems to undo everything that made the first game so great. I felt misled by ths trailers, as we actually end up playing 70% of the game as Abby and not Ellie. A character Naughty Dog forces us to play as, and one of the most unlikeable characters in the history of media. Seriously, this character is horribly written and there's nothing to like. No, she's not transgender like many people would have you believe but she is not built like any real female so this makes her even more unbelievable. She does horrible things to characters we care about, and they force us to do some of these awful things as this she-hulk like character to the point I nearly stopped playing. It's that bad. The graphics are gorgeous, but that's it really. The gameplay is similar to the first, so it's good fun, but when you don't care about the story or character you're playing as it just doesn't work. I hated all 21 hours of this game (not the 30-35 advertised), have now deleted it and will not re-install. Very disappointed with this after a long 7 year wait. Booked time off work, and upgraded to a PS4 pro console for nothing.    … Expand

    Gameplay hasn't improved at all. The first game was carried by a gripping masterpiece of a story. This game did the complete opposite and by the end, I didn't care about anything I was playing anymore. The biggest gaming disappointment in 30 years of gaming.

    The game is boring and it has a lot of bugs.
    The real "The Last Of Us 2" is "Left Behind".

    I feel like Neil handed in his erotic fan fiction instead of the real script when he accidentally burned it while smoking his employees' resignation letters. It's clear they were grasping for straws and whipped up some top tier deviant-art writing skills to give any excuse to make this game.

No, this game is bad because it is mercilessly grim, and full of cynical, performative gestures designed to ingratiate itself to the worst sort of toxic, internet SJW’s. The Last of Us part 1 was my favorite game and I loved it so much I named my Cat Ellie after the game...i have had the videogame poster from TLOU1 framed in my living room for all these years, I'm a huge fan. Naughty Dog needs to apologize to everyone for TLOU2. I beat both games but the sequel is so bad... I wish they never made a sequel that's how bad it is. The wilderness/scenery is great but that's it. The storyline is absolute garbage. The game feels dragged out and I even was bored alot of the time. It felt like I kept playing hoping it would somehow get better and and I'd feel better about it already being ruined in the first 2-3 hours of the game but it only continues to be absolute garbage. I wanted to cry not because of how sad it was but how let down I felt by the game developers and writers. They had all this time and no one working there could convince them to redo it and that theyre ruining the whole game. This game made me feel like ill never have hope in games again.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all please let me point out i personally regard The Last of Us as the greatest single player game ever made.

    I was 24 when i first played it and i never expected a video game to have such an emotional impact. Sarah's death in the prologue, Tess's sacrifice in Boston, Sam and Henry's deaths, the game had me hooked with hard hitting story moments. At the core of the first game we have the relationship that develops between Ellie and Joel, this is key to everything that is good about the game, the experiences they go through shape that relationship and develop the characters.

    Marketing trailers for the second game strongly suggest we will see that relationship explored further and tested. The closing scene of the first game we see Ellie question Joel about the events at Salt Lake City and its suggested she thinks he is lying.

    Ultimately Joel is killed at the hands of a new playable Character (Abby) whom we have no attachment with what so ever just 90 minutes into the game. Now i have no problem with main characters dieing, in a post apocalyptic back-drop one could say it should be expected but the way Joel's death played out left me feeling nothing, it felt ham fisted and forced through for shock value and to set the wheel in motion for what would follow, a story of vengeance.

    Why was it ham fisted and force you say?

    Joel and Tommy have both survived post out break for at this point 24/25+ years and yet we are supposed to believe they go like willing cattle to the slaughterhouse. Rule number one in any post apocalyptic world, do not trust strangers, particularly groups, better the enemy you know, in this case the infected.

    Naughty Dog did not want this game to be another Joel and Ellie adventure, so they got desperate in forcing an unbelievable situation in which Joel died and Ellie had the path laid before her to go and seek revenge.

    So Ellie & Dina set out for Seattle to find the people that murdered Joe and kill them, i feel that at this point the relationship develop between Ellie and Dina essentially stops. Ellie fights through countless enemies slaying them as she goes into what becomes a quest to find and murder Abby along with hopefully some answers.

    The cinema showdown, acts as a Cliffhanger. Jesse dies but given how little development he got it feels inconsequential to the story. I hate Cliffhangers and this one feels all the more worse as you are forced to play 6-8 hours as Abby, who is essentially a female terminator.

    I get what Naughty Dog are trying to do, there is always another side and perspective to every story but i choose my side 7 years go with the emotional attachment i formed with Ellie and Joel despite their flaws and no matter how many hours you force me play as Abby do gooder it will not change the outcome i desire for her and that is a brutal death at the hands of Ellie.

    If the Abby/Yara/Lev section of the game had been a standalone separate story from the Joel and Ellie story, i would have enjoyed it alot more given more character development.

    Cinema Cliffhanger, Abby in full search and destroy mode after finding pretty much everyone else involved in Joel's murder is now dead. I like the way Nora died tbh that was a minor highlight.

    Jesse dead, Tommy shot and down, we are forced to hunt Ellie as Abby, this almost made me throw up the game did not revert back to Ellie being the playable character at this point. Thankfully Lev shut downs the Terminator before she can execute Dina/Ellie/Tommy, given her little develop and her friends deaths, it would of been in her character to kill all 3.

    Farmhouse act 1, at this point i thought the game was going to end, it would of been weak (Abby essentially letting her go once more) but with Ellie sat on the tractor overlooking the horizon, with JJ in her arms the credits could have rolled with a reasonably happy but unfulfilling ending.

    Ultimately Ellie is still haunted by Joel's murder, Tommy turns up alive thankfully but semi crippled to set the next step of the game in motion. Abby is in Santa Barbara. Following a short play as Abby both Abby & Lev are captured by another group known as the Rattlers and taken prisoner/slave.

    Ellie leaves Dina/JJ to go hunt Abby down, despite Dina's warning she will not wait for her to return. At this point i was just glad to be back playing Ellie, after so much time being forced to play as Abby.

    Ellie slays countless to get to a somewhat reduced Abby who has been left to die, after saving her life, forces her into a fight she does not want for once. Beats her only to let her live.

    The ending shows Ellie's sense of loss, Joel dead, Dina and JJ gone, she cant even play Guitar anymore after loosing two fingers. A brief flashback shows Ellie wanted to forgive Joel for his lie, the game should have ended on this scene, which is by far the most emotionally powerful moment in the entire game.    … Expand

    No one has ever done something like that for a video game story so it would be an original design decision. That way, people who like this version can still enjoy it, but for people who want an actual story can play the real version. Both versions would be debated upon, but the decision to redo this game entirely with a new story would make me forget about and forgive the mistakes made in this version. I know that this won't happen because the Niel Druckmann fell to one of the oldest stumbling blocks in history which would be pride. He directed a masterpiece and the praise got to his head. Instead of looking at what the fans loved about the first game, he did his own thing, confident that he was smarter than everyone else, and ended up destroying his own masterpiece. It's not the first time that a leader has fallen to pride and it certainly won't be the last time. If Niel Druckmann and the team completely redid the game with an actual story, it would be one of the quintessential comebacks of our time. It would surprise everyone and would earn the respect of every gamer who felt betrayed by this version. As it stands though, this game is completely unplayable.    … Expand

Nitidamente se preocuparam bastante com o relacionamento da Ellie talvez por ser homossexual infelizmente transformaram a história em um fetiche no restante da muita preguiça de assistir ao ponto de eu querer pular as cenas, o que fizeram com o Joel e o fim do jogo praticamente sem desfecho realmente é muito decepcionante, fico aquiExperiência decepcionante, no quesito história.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's heartbreaking to give this game such a low score considering how much I adored the first one however it's unfortunately what it deserves. The graphics are stunning as expected for a 2020 game, I found myself in awe walking around the different sets, the acting for the most part is phenomenal, the gameplay is great (most of it was recycled from the original game so really nothing new other than the fact that Ellie is faster and less bulky than Joel was making room for some interesting mechanics), the music was breathtaking, the story and character writing however was not. Naughty Dog completely ruined this games potential when they wrote such unlikable characters, I found myself being bored during most dialogue and just switched off to admire the graphics. To give such a beloved character an awful excuse of a 'send off' for no reason other than to fuel a revenge story is insulting to fans of the original game and by the 6th hour into the game it doesn't even feel like you're out for revenge it just feels like Ellie's on a rampage and Joel's death is just the best excuse they could come up with and to then be forced into playing as the character that killed him & expecting us to care for her is just rubbing salt on the wound. ND's handling of trailers was absolutely disgusting I avoided spoilers like my life depended on it and bought the game thinking I was going to get an Ellie focused story (a character who I loved) to build upon her character with Joel as one of the possible side characters (I wouldn't have even been mad if they killed him off at some point respectfully), instead she's been written as an uncharismatic teenager that nobody likes, her personality has completely changed and I guess you could read into it and say it's just a part of growing up in an apocalyptic universe however this is never explained. Joel goes from a careful, smart survivor to someone who willingly tells a group of armed strangers his name regardless of the reputation he built in the events of the first game. Scenes are ridiculously violent for the sake of being violent to a point where I personally had so much anxiety I had to stop playing for a while. If there's one good thing about the story & characters I suppose you could stretch and say it's ok at diversity, there's a handful of lgbtq+ characters & different ethnicities however it's not GREAT representation, scenes feel forced and one of the characters even plays into a harmful stereotype for bi people so take it or leave it. Overall The Last of Us 2 just feels like Naughty Dog ruined a perfect story with incredibly enjoyable characters just for the sake of making a sequel and getting more money, as a long time fan I will definitely not be buying anymore products from them. The score of 4 is based purely on graphics and gameplay but it's definitely not worth your money.
    It's upsetting to see reviewers blindly hating this game JUST because it features lgbt people at the center of it. However it's equally as frustrating to see people blindly supporting it, at the end of the day the story is just simply an injustice to the original game that so many people love and that's all it really boils down to.

    In last of us 1, the whole thing is about Ellie and Joel and you grow to really love and care about them

    In last of us 2, they kill off Joel in the first 2 hours. Then, they make you play as his killer (Abby) for 10 hours, as you try to kill Ellie. Then, you play as Ellie for 10 hours trying to kill Abby. You kill hundreds of people and dogs trying to do this. Then, after all that, Ellie doesn’t kill Abby, and nearly all the characters are dead, abandoned Ellie, or are crippled by injuries. The final shot is Ellie trying to play Joel’s guitar, but failing to because Abby bit off two of her fingers

    The game itself has beautiful graphics but lacks the almost recycled gameplay of the first, identical Npc's and the ending is simply disappointing. Do yourself a favor and invest your money in another thing.

    They say Joel deserved to die because he killed so many people. Who cares about morality in post apocalyptic game? Guess what, Joel killed for his daughter, just like how abby killed for her father. People can forgive abby but not Joel. That's stupid. Also, if they had even TRIED to make abby empathisable IN THE LEAST or relatable or likable or showed that she had an absolutely legit reason to kill an old and popular character, it would have been understood. But no she just appears from some where and goes, "I gotta kill him because he killed my father," and the player doesn't even get to relate with her pain or her suffering missing her father. You are SUPPOSED to feel bad for her, rather than actually relating with her missing her father and wanting revenge. Morality can f off in this world, unlike how everyone is saying, because its a post apocalypse and everyone will do whatever to survive. In the game as Ellie you also kill a ton of people. Does Ellie deserve to be curbstomped by some guys now?

    Also, I have seen a bunch of people who claim to have played only the first 4 or 5 hours proudly saying that they like it, and are also criticising players who leave a bad review but have finished the whole game. Automatically discredited. Play the whole game first, then leave a review.

    Joel isn't properly given the redemption he deserved in this game. Just because some didn't like Joel and left a good review doesn't mean theirs are more valuable than the ones that liked him and have left a negetive one. Leave your own experience. Don't criticise others because they didn't have a similar experience with the characters as you did. Everyone has different sentiments attached to the same game. Calling us angry men because we didn't like what happened with Joel and how his value was drowned over some needless plot channeling is a bad move. Get yourself fixed. Just because you disliked him doesnt mean he deserved to be forgotten and his value diminished after his death. The gamers who liked him and held more worth of him in their hearts deserved a better account of him, and our opinions are just as valuable as yours.

    Worst game I've ever had the displeasure of playing basically ruins the previous game by trying to tell an "enlightened" view of violence while being the ones who made the game that way. I'm sad that this did so poorly because no game developer will ever attempt this twist after this tragedy.

    Positives:

    Either way I'll start off with the positives, the graphics are stunning and the music and general environment you're playing in certainly holds up to what I've been expecting from Naughty Dog. That's really the only reason, why I'm even rewarding this game with any points. Also there are some new mechanics to the gameplay although it is mostly the same as in the original.

    Negatives:

    You start off in the game and the game starts off very quietly until they kill off Joel, which is in itself already quite a bad decision. Killing off one of the players' most beloved characters for shock value is really not the best decision. Especially as Joel had barely made an appearance in the game before his brutal murder. Ellie goes on to find the killer, Abby and basically goes on a revenge trip together with Dina, her girlfriend. After Joel's death I was quite shocked and already had lost some of the appetite to even continue the game. But after a short break I decided to continue playing regardless. I was determined to kill Abby, the person who killed Joel. After getting about halfway through the game Abby suddenly breaks into their safehouse and Jesse, another side character who I had grown to like was again killed off for pure shock value in a very distasteful manner. Before knowing the outcome of that event it switches to Abby, the person you just really hate, like seriously, I don't know if I've ever hated a character more in a video game. So now you're supposed to play as the villain and get a little bit of backstory as to why she was so obsessed with Joel. Alright he killed her father, but do you really think that would make me suddenly like Abby? No I still hate her, like many people considering the reviews I've already read.

    Making the player play the game again through her point of view was a really bad decision and also what ultimately killed off my intention of seeing through the game. I played through the first couple of hours of Abby's story, but I will never start liking her and I feel like Naughty Dog greatly miscalculated how easy it would be to convince us of her. Also the characters around her are all also either unlikeable or just forgettable. Which is also a perfect way to describe this game. Naughty Dog ruined the series by making a story as bad as this one and I don't even know if I'm going to finish the game. It's a shame as this is the first time I have never been disappointed this much by a game and considering it came from Naughty Dog, a company I always trusted, that's even worse.

    If you want my advice, don't buy this game. You'd get more enjoyment out of just replaying the first game, which was truly a masterpiece.    … Expand

    7/10 - Graphics, literally the only redeeming factor this game has is how good it looks and how smooth the animations are... for the time it took and the progress since, this could have been much better.

    Seriously I want my money back. I should never have bought this game and frankly OFFENDED at the way it treats LGBTQ issues/ellie's relationship. It's an outright INSULT to the LGBTQ community.

    Harvey Milk didn't die for Anita Sarkessian to RUIN the LGBTQ movement's progress with her faux feminist -give me money- agenda.

But the main issue with the game is how they treated some of the most beloved characters and the story telling in the game. They killed Joel off by the hands of the Abby who I never really connected with. Also not to mention the forced identity politics being shoved down your throat. Dina was one of the worscharacters in the game, she felt like a hindrance and ruin the moment for me when walking in Joel's house. The whole point of this game was revenge and guess what, you don't even get to kill abby at the end. Naughty dog have gone done the star wars route. Great visuals but terrible storyline. I can agree with all the banter about "Joel deserved better" and "This has an agenda" to a certain degree. It definitely felt like the PC culture was being jammed down my throat, and as for Joel, I'm not sure about deserved better... He murdered countless people and forsake mankind to save one girl. I am not saying I would have chosen differently. I would have made the same call, especially after losing my daughter many years before. When you murder someone there will be repercussions. Abby was one of those waves that Joel had created, and it caught up with him. You kill that many people, and you are asking for the worst possible outcome. Put all that aside, at least for this review. This game felt like a slap in the face. It felt like no one wanted to write it, or maybe there was just a lack of real story after the first one had been tied into a neat little bow for us. I do not know how much influence the Co-writer Halley Gross had, but I looked into her, and her reputation is less than impressive. She is a failed comedian, claiming it was some misplaced fear, when in reality she just isn't funny. Her writing is lack luster at best, and bringing her into the fold was a MASSIVE mistake on the studio's part. I feel that this whole stunt was like the studios and critics saying "Oh you want a sequel do you? The first wasn't enough? Well here is your **** sequel!" as if to put us in our place about craving a sequel to something as good The Last of Us. We understand that puts pressure on studios, but if this is the response we get for wanting sequels and remakes that actually do their counterparts justice, then I would rather have nothing at all. Killing Joel, and then FORCING me to play as the person who brutally beat him to death, is a **** insult to anyone who played the first game and don't even pretend like it isn't. Driving a narrative of seeing how bleak the world would be, and beating the dead horse of "revenge is bad" is just lazy writing. Showing me that my enemy has struggles too, and attempting to humanize them is just infuriating. Your counterpoint is immediately invalid, because it comes simply down to "I know my enemy has feelings, and cares, and wants, and struggles. The thing is, they killed the only thing I had left in this world, so I don't give one flying **** who or what that person is. Showing me their side of things is not going to change my mind that, that person needs to pay the piper. Just like Joel did." And then at the end you strip us of even that. This story felt lazy, and insulting all the way through. No amount of "good" gameplay will ever compensate for just throwing out good character arcs. I wish I could even give a decent review of the gameplay. I can't. It was fine enough for what it needed to accomplish, but the A.I. was piss poor. It felt like the clunky A.I. from the first game, but now even easier to sneak up on. Survivor mode was a joke. My biggest complaint... Killing animals. I have a problem with killing innocent creatures that do not have the capacity to even begin to understand the complexities of what drives man to slaughter each other with no reason or rhyme. I spent more time trying to figure out ways to NOT kill anything in parts that included animals, than doing any other thing in that game. I will give you this, you animated it and made it sound convincing. So good so, that the first time I killed a dog and heard it yelp, it made me so **** angry I turned the damn game off for the rest of the day. I had trouble justifying even turning the damn thing back on. I am disgusted with any game that includes killing innocent creatures. You couldn't even give us gameplay redeeming enough to recommend this game. Fire Neil, and absolutely fire Halley Gross. This game spit in the face of not only its fans, but in the face of its own predecessor. Next time put the goddamn pen down and think that it might be better to produce nothing than produce whatever the hell you call this.… Expand

    the last of us is about joel and ellie their are the last of us without them it just can't be and since joel is dying there is already 1 person gone I thought ok we are now just going to play as ellie for the rest of the game but no you must play as abby that really ruins the whole game why do you play if her plays nothing on anyone cares about her the story is not right you don't feel a click with the characters it seems like some scenes are missing because then ellie sees someone get hung up and cut open and then in the next scene she's flirting with dina come on a little bit apart part 2 should just have been about ellie's uniqueness that was much better than this it's totally ruined and seriously ellie sacrificed so much to abby and then let them go so stupid

A story showing blood and gore 24/7 and just having Ellie killing hundreds of people isn't depressing it's just generic, a revenge story after killing the main character we've been invested in from the previous game just for a revenge story that has no payoff isn't unique or great storytelling, a game trying to be bleak and cruel and showing the world is bad and depressing with no happy moments just to have a thematic message about revenge isn't good.

    The reason the first last of us was good was that it had positive moments to make the depressing moments, well... sadder and vise versa. It also just focused on two characters and their development, not just the thematic relevance of the character's actions. a game being bleak all the time isn't good storytelling. it's just sad for the sake of being sad and that's just dumb (and honestly, it's not even that bleak for a video game considering **** like spec ops the line and dark souls exist.)

    if every movie, game, and tv show was made just for getting emotions from people than all they would have to do is just show a young child dying from starvation or literally most things from world war 2. There is a reason fiction and reality are different and that reason is that real life is **** boring and disappointing so saying this game is like "real life" isn't a compliment it's actually an insult really. Things in fiction have to have logic behind the things that happen but in this game Sooo many contrived things happen because the dumbass who wrote this didn't care enough to put more thought into it not because it's "real"

    But honestly whoever did support this game or didn't do anything against it like boycotting it or anything else should be happy with what they've done because of them one of the most anticipated game of all time has been filled the same virus as the movies have and that's the dumb SJW mental illness and let's not be delusional now the game's industry has been going downhill for some time now but this is kinda the breaking point. The biggest franchise in the film industry like star wars has been molested by Disney and so has the same been done to the game's industry by sony and that's because we did absolutely nothing but watch as it happened.     The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

    If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
