Top-notch and incredible AIs, human enemies cornering the player whenever they have the chance, not having an auto tracker on the player like tlou 1 and actually have the enemy look for you is a very big improvement! Really really liked the gameplay and graphics. But for me, the soul for tlou has always been the story, the flow of the game and all the things that made tlou great in the first place. Therefore I have no choice but to leave a low score review here. Like many others have pointed out, the story is absolute garbage. To the point that there is no need of me to list all the things out, everybody else has always pointed those things out, you can just check out all the other reviews. It's a shame and sad to see what naughty dog has come to today. I will not be refunding the game, as a reminder that games that had a great part 1, it's equal might not be as good as the former was, don't jump onto the hype train so quickly. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The gameplay seems old, it is pretty much the same as TLOU from 2013. The story isn't interesting is made to intentionally annoy us or at least that's how I felt. The trailers are not showing the actual game. They hide Abby because they realize most people will hate her and they won't sell as much. Even though the sound and the graphics are awesome the immersion for me was completely ruined at least in the second half of the game because of the main character I had to play. Ellie's side of the story was interesting, Dina and Jesse were interesting characters but Abby, Manny, Owen and Lev were so annoying to me. Every bit of the second half was made just to show you both sides are grey and Abby isn't the bad guy, they even add Lev and Yara to create a similar relationship between the two as Ellie had with Joel in the first game but it just seemed forced. Lev messed up so many times and every time Yara gets punished first she looses a hand and then her life because of Lev's questionable decisions. Also Lev seemed so forced into the story just to embrace an agenda ND are constantly pushing. Same with Abby being so fit. They basically created Nadine from Uncharted 4 all over again. And they say they wanted to create a story where the main focus is how destructive revenge is. Fine but why our beloved characters Ellie and Joel have to loose everything while Abby and Lev are not punished at all? There is no sense of justice. And if they take the nihilistic approach it is again wrong because they are not punishing all sides equally and it felt as if they did it because Abby's side was the side with the agenda characters. In a game where the story is 90% of the whole game and the story is awful the rest doesn't even matter. To me this is a 0/10, I felt spat in the face by ND after I gave them 60$ and pre-ordered the game. They said "it's not as it seems" after the leaks were out. The story was even worst than the leaks showed. Expand

Giving it at 1 is being nice only reason why is because the gameplay was kinda smooth, the story felt forced, the script was definitely written by 21yr old tryin to hand in a essay the hour it's due, the credit show alot of people that worked on it. I bet no one criticized it at all and they just said yes that works. Perfect boss, your gonna make history boss, Shït like that. They took a fine age game and turned it into fools gold. The way they killed Joel was just for shock value. The supporting characters didn't even play a role but to either leave or die. And the Abby was okay it was different. But again the script was so badly made I didn't care about what they were saying. And to be honest playing it on the hardest difficulty wasn't even worth it No special achievement or anything Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. !!This is a long read but worth it so please read to the end!! What a betrayal to the fans who have waited so long for this game. Where do I even start, how about the part where Joel is tortured and murdered in such a inappropriate way to send off this character. This man was part of the driving force behind the first game, a person who you become so invested in because you see the tragedy he has gone through, and to just off him like that is so lazy, Joel survived for 20 plus years being an idiot?? Yeah i don’t think so, not in a million years would he trust those shady people to begin with. And let’s talk about having to play as his killer for HALF THE GAME. I feel no sympathy whatsoever for this piece of crap character, everything you do as her is so pointless because you are just following behind what you already did as Ellie in killing of her friends. It’s like the developers had no clue what to do at all, they wanted to make the game longer than the first so they make you play a game twice as long as the first as some Macho man looking girl who you couldn’t give less of a crap about. And the way the story ends is so un satisfying. Ellie gets crapped on all game and in the end when she’s gonna get her moment, the writers think you know what? As if we haven’t made this game bad enough, let’s let the antagonist of the game who murdered such a beloved character, yeah let’s her live like get outta here with that dumb crap. There aren’t many pluses to this game, the gameplay is beat for beat the same exact gameplay as it was 7 years ago, so there nothing new and exciting there. The character design for some of the new characters introduced is so hideous I can’t stand to look at some of them, namely Abby who looks like a freaking ogre. But if I had to give a positive, obviously the graphics are stunning, that’s pretty much a given since naughty dog have a good track record with that, but saying that graphics doesn’t mean good game, you want more examples of that just look at every EA game ever. Another positive I have are the Joel and Ellie flashbacks in the game, that’s what made this series was those twos relationship and I wish it was more focused on that. There’s my review for this game. If you are a long time fan of this series I would strongly recommend you do not play this game and just look on YouTube if you want to see what happens. To people who are new to the series you’ll probably have an ok time with the game and not understand some of the story issues people are having with the game because you haven’t played the first, so to you I’d say spend your money on something more meaningful like the first game if you really want bang for your buck. Naughty dog for the sake of being edgy, has lost a lot of fans of the Last of us. Abby was just the worst character. Instead of making a satisfying tale of revenge we got a complicated and boring plot about an eye for an eye and last minute change of hearts.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Great graphics. Nice modest upgrade to weapons, skills, and upgrades. My biggest issue is the story. I’m not mad Joel gets killed. It’s how he gets killed. And then, having to play 10-12 hours which is basically the entire second half of the game as Abby. At that point in time nothing that was shared in “her” story, contributed to me feeling any sort of compassion. To me, this is genuinely the biggest reason why fans of this franchise had a hard time accepting this story. Plenty of other ways to kill a main character/hero. This is not the way Neil. I’m sorry. But unlike the first game, where a selfish decision to not lose a bond encapsulates our human need in brilliant simplicity, this entry fails to represent meaningful choices in new and original ways, it fails to offer levels of engagement masterfully delivered by the first, and with bad pacing, frustrating and unrealistic character arcs, and an end-message that has been said the whole world over, this entry fails fundamentally at offering something as meaningful as our original journey with Joel and Ellie. 2/10 for graphics, acting, and the infection. The quality of the story rivals the story of Star Wars VIII: The last jedi.

I spent about 25 hours to beat the game and did not read the spoilers beforehand.

I am a huge fan of the first game. Though I try my best to lower my expectations, I find it hard to say that tlou2 is a great RPG. Everything except for the story is great, I'm especially impressed with the detailed character model and physics effect, hail to the best ropes in video game history.

But this is a story focused RPG, therefore major flaws in storytelling are simply not tolerable. Without spoiler, I'll list a few problems I found with the plot: 1. Characters don't behave consistently, one second they kill and torture people with absolutely no remorse, the next second they suddenly turned into a saint. 2. Unlike its predecessor, the theme of this game feels somewhat distant for me. I found it hard to sympathize with the choices made by the main characters. 3. A lot of basic stuff, like the language used by characters, handling of death scenes, etc. is simply not detailed and compelling enough. 4. The enemy AI and introduction of dogs as an enemy made it a lot harder to clear the game without killing anyone. Considering the game advocates against violence, this is somewhat sarcastic (how should a game discourage users on violent actions? Refer to MGS series!). 5. Some players may feel they are being pushed to make certain decisions.

Talking about the 'pushy' aspect of this game. I am a born pacifist. I don't hate anyone, and would certainly choose to let go of hatred and vengeance. But I wouldn't dare to make that decision for someone else! As I am not in their shoes, it would be so arrogant of me to claim that I know better, or that I even understand what they feel. Some might be able to accept the game more if they are given choices like was done in other games (like the Witcher series, or even GTA).

Even considering all these flaws, TLOU2 is not a bad game, why so many people gave extremely negative reviews? In my opinion, this is a retaliation against the high media score. For games rated 9+ on Metacritic, like FF7/10, like Zelda ocarina of time, like MGS4, you can easily scroll 10 pages on Amazon without finding a single negative review. The fact that this game got such mixed reviews on Amazon US and Japan, on PS store, and Metacritic user rating, speaks out the fact that the game media, who are supposed to be a reliable reference of a game's overall 'likability' (LUL on that), are not doing their jobs as good as we would like. Taste is a very diverse thing, yes, if there were more diverse opinions on this game from the media, I am sure a lot of people would not be as angry and disappointed as they are now.

By the way, I think it's pretty rude to accuse other people as being homophobic/misogynic just because they dislike this game, as I said the taste is a very diverse thing, the fact that someone disagrees with you, does not make them evil ,or stupid. It's not like Ellie was not gay in the first game, right? No one was complaining about it back then, as a matter of fact, WE ALL LOVE ELLIE! And that is precisely why this game hurt me so much-- the person I love turned into a complete stranger.

This is a difficult and even crazy time. I was hoping a masterpiece would bring us together through shared enthusiasm and love, and make this world slightly better. But it didn't, it made people even more divided and I am deeply saddened by this fact.

I'm amazed by the art team that was dedicated to this project.
Hands down, the graphics are the most amazing aspect of this game.
The gameplay has significantly been improved and feels fluid and clean and most of all, FUN.

Now the reason I have to give this game a negative score.

    How DARE you Naughty Dog.
    How DARE you Neil Druckmann.

This bastardized story you gave us isn't even close to what people want out of a game.
And no, you don't HAVE to give people the story they want, nor should you be expected to deliver a product that you feel isn't right.
But how dare you take the story TLOU gave us, and then ruin it with this sequel.
Joel died. Fine, if that's what must happened to get the shock factor and emotional turmoil across to the player, you did what you had to do.
But to then turn around, and force the player to play as Abby?
To force the player to walk in their shoes in an attempt to gain sympathy points for this monster you created?
    It's disgusting.

They tried to do a really heart melting story like the first The Last Of Us, which was one of the greatest games ever. In the first one, it's the story of Joel which finds Ellie and has to go through a lot of hard things. He started to like Ellie like if she was his daughter. In the end we know that Ellie is the cure from the disease and the hospital takes her away. When Joel learns this, he went to save her even though she was going to save humanity with her blood.

The second one is just cringy and feels like it is made by some liberals doing a "fan" fiction. Literally. It's been a long time that we know that Ellie is lesbian, but in TLOU2 they straight up went for sex scenes and kissing scenes that this game really doesn't need. Like I'm saying, mega cringe.

The other thing is that Joel is usually so cautious and does whatever he can to survive, for example in the first one, he never really liked the idea of surviving with strangers and all of that. Now in this piece of **** Joel just joins a random house and tells his name and that is how he dies. HOW DARE THEY DO THIS TO MY BOI JOEL. He dies because of some **** Abby which is killing him for vEnGencE. And the part that infuriates me the most is that after the cringy fight in the end of the game, Ellie doesn't even kill Abby, and why? Like I was telling they tried to do a heartwarming story like the first one but The Last Of Us 2 just gave us a cringy and generic revenge story.

Gameplay wise it is not bad, but there are not a lot of improvements, which is ok, considering that the first's one was really good. The graphics ain't bad, but I expected better. Now the glitches... The game is so **** glitchy, that is all I have to say.

In conclusion, the game is horrible : it feels like some liberals just wrote a fan fiction with their ass, it is a cringe attempt to make a good game, it has more than a horrible story and just doesn't deserve any love, it deserves only hate and I have no idea how many dollars naughty dog payed this web site to have a such high score.

PS: Thank me for the spoilers, like that you won't have to play that stupid piece of **** it is not worth your time and it will just make you lose brain cells.

So noone got a happy ending except Abby because she got to live and have someone to come with here while Ellie lost all her friends Dina ran off Tommy got shot in the head and Ellie lost the only connecttion she had with Joel left which was playing the guitar and now she can't do that cause she's missing two fingers this game just makes me sad that they ruined everything that the last of us 1 built and just decided to go all philosophy and poetic and made it an interactive movie Expand

It all feels like a repetitive task, with empty emotionless characters. It's almost like a PR stunt - they killed off the protagonist just so they could give Ellie a girlfriend - which nobody likes by the way. Not because of her "love" preferences, but because of how she is introduced: she is the one to kill Joel! Naughty Dog thought that a few-minutes-long introduction would've made up for that, and that we'd all start loving her. Well, they were terribly wrong.
Do not waste your time and money.

What isn't blasphemous is just how terribly written the story of this game is. You attempted to make a revenge/avenger sequel and ended up making a piece of **** mixed with a rainbow that will go down in history as the biggest example of a producer missing the mark with their audience. Why the SJWs at metacritic gave it an obnoxiously high score is beyond me; however, i think they were scared of negatively reviewing a game that had two same sex, gay female protagonists. This game is a hard pass unless you are playing it specifically for that reason Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wanted to like this game. Genuinely, I went into it with high expectations following TLoU, which is high up in my favorite games list. By this point I'm sure everyone know about some of the debate surrounding the game, but in case you don't I'll get into some of my issues with this game.

First let's touch on some of the lies Naughty Dog told. "You won't be forced to kill any dogs", lie. The trailer showed Joel in scenes that he's been replaced with entirely other characters saying those exact lines. Maybe not a lie but a horrible misdirection at best. Censoring people that have problems with the game and issuing DMCA strikes against anyone who dares to speak badly about the game. Naughty Dog has entirely lost my support on those matters alone.

Now I rated this game a 3/10 due to phenomenal graphics and sound design and smooth gameplay. The gameplay is nothing stellar and improves minimally on the first game's system which sounds at first like a good thing until you realize it's been 7 years and the gameplay was never the main draw of the first game anyway. To make matters worse, even with as smooth as the game is, the fights feel long, drawn out, and there aren't as many set pieces and cutscenes to break it up as there is in the first game. Without that, the gameplay gets boring and monotonous very quickly, less of a challenge and more of a chore. That's not saying that there aren't some very good moments in the game. When the Seraphites are hunting you as Ellie is amazing with the tension, chasing after Nora is one of the best moments in the game, and encountering the strange mutated infected with Abby is a lot of fun. But those moments are so spaced out and rare that they just can't make up for it.

Now for the story. I went into this expecting Joel to die, I always figured he was going to. But two hours into the game, while being stupidly trusting of strangers which Joel has never done before? He doesn't even try to fight back despite having a pistol on him and it's not like they were threatening Tommy. And before someone tries to argue that Joel had "gone soft", no. He participated in regular patrols and still killed quite often as they even show in the game. I expected Joel to die, but the way they killed him was horrible and wrong and Joel deserved a better death.

Then you play as Ellie and that's... fine? Ellie is different in this, there's very little of the Ellie left that we fell in love with in the first game, but she's older and angry about Joel so whatever. But most of her section is just so dreadfully boring. It gets better towards the end of it but it just felt like a narratively dead slog. Her relationship with Dina was forced at best and I don't like Dina anywhere near as much as I liked Ellie, Tommy's mentioned but barely in it, and Jesse... he's basically a nonentity. Then, right at what feels like the climax, where Abby has showed up to face you for killing all her "friends"...

You skip to playing Abby and the pacing of the game and all the tension comes to a dead, grinding halt so you can play the next 10 hours experiencing the story through Abby's point of view. I already hate Abby. I don't want to play as Abby. They try to make you sympathize with her by showing her being okay to her friends and playing with dogs but it doesn't work because they've already dead set you against her. Her father was a piece of crap too who showed more sympathy and caring to a zebra than a living and breathing 14 year old girl so any sympathy towards him and Abby for what Joel did there is dashed. Literally the only character I felt sympathy for on Abby's side was Mel... and the dog, Alice. Both of whom you already know are dead so you don't connect with them like the game wants you to. Abby is a piece of crap the entire time, getting together with Owen while knowing that he's still with Mel and she's freaking pregnant, and condoning and wanting to participate in torture. Because that's supposed to endear us to Abby?? I liked Lev and Yara if that helps? But Yara dies and Lev is nowhere near the personality that Ellie was so I felt very little connection to Lev.

When the end of the game came around it felt surreal in a very bad way. Why wait so long? And then let Abby go? If the lesson they were trying to teach is "revenge bad" why did Abby get away despite achieving her revenge?

I think what makes me most disappointed is that I see the potential this game had. It could've been good. Instead we got a badly paced, poorly written, depressing slog of a game that does not stand up to it's predecessor at all. Save your money. This game really isn't worth it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've been excited about Part 2 since the first game came out. I was quick to defend the game before it even came out, and I made sure to play the entire game before forming any opinions. And honestly? Disappointed is an understatement. The gameplay, the visuals, the soundtrack, were all amazing. The story on the other hand was needlessly miserable. It was hollow and empty, convoluted and contradictory. What I loved most about the first game was Joel and Ellie, and their love for each other. What I loved was the story about finding hope and love and family in dark times. The second game destroys everything the first game built up. Joel dies immediately, a decision so jarring and horrible that I had a hard time continuing to play afterwards. The only scenes with Joel and Ellie together are flashbacks. I think I may have been able to stomach the rest of the story, if not for several facts. For starters, more than half of the game is played as Joel's killer. The game tries to make you understand, to let you empathize, but I couldn't. We had an entire game to get to know and love Joel and Ellie. We watched Abby murder Joel, and then we're expected to fall in love with her later. It was hard. I couldn't do it. Another thing that I found to be lazy and unfortunate was the handling of character deaths in the story. Every single character who died did so in an abrupt and often times unnecessary way. In the first game, there was always something to foreshadow or warn of an impending death. The Last of Us Part 2 relies soley on shock factor. My third issue is with the way the characters were written. Often times I found it hard to recognize the characters. Tommy especially was contradictory in the most jarring way. In the first half of the game, he seemed like the Tommy we all knew and loved from the first game. But by the end he had a sudden change, contradicting his character from the beginning of the very same game! Fourthly, our biggest conflicts from the first game were given little to no attention in the second game and I found no closure. There are several scenes of Ellie questioning Joel's decision to save her at the hospital, and one scene of her discovering the truth. It was not enough, and it was all handled poorly. The ending of the game is brutal for no reason. There is no satisfaction. There is nothing to comfort you, or to make you feel like your time playing the game was spent well. It is hollow. It is lonely. It is needlessly miserable. My disappointment for the story of this game is heartbreaking. The first game was one that I found I could play over and over again. The second game is one I'm not sure that I can ever play again. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I feel absolutely screwed by naughty dog. Let me start by saying the gameplay, graphics, general feel of the game is amazing. Where this game goes downhill for me is the writing. Let me be clear, if have developed a strong connection to joel and ellie, dont risk playing this game. Early on in the game joel is killed by abby. And after that, all we want is to kill these evil chick and her friends. It seems to be going that way until about 20 hours in. All the sudden you pick up with playing as abby again. Not knowing that your time with ellie is basically over. They try to get you to see things from abbys point of view, which is where they screwed up big time. The real fans of this game are here to play as ellie. Not abby, the **** who killed and tortured joel. There could always be another side to a character. Why would they even think about ruining our connection with ellie by trying to show things from your nemesis POV. At one point you actually beat the hell out of ellie. I felt compelled to let ellie kill me as abby about 10 times before I actually finished beating her(ellie!!) Like would you ever see that done in uncharted? I think not. So anyway you eventually get a bit more time with ellie, only to have a very underwhelming ending. Its a video game, how did naughty dog think this story path was the most intriguing is beyond me. We've seen by the first 'last of us' that they can make a very emotional game with a positivish ending. I'm not saying a game where ellie and all her friends live and get that much wanted revenge, but maybe one where we play as ellie for the game and not half as ellie and half as the girl we want to kill. Just feels like a GIANT slap in the face. And the people that say the game is in a post apocalyptic world. Not everything is gonna work out. Well those ppl obviously aren't attached to the characters. There is a reason these reviews are so low. I was literally hating on these people giving low scores....until I finished the game..... This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wanted to like this game because I loved the first game. So I will start with what I liked about the game that at times made it redeemable: the voice acting was great, I enjoyed seeing relationships during the game, the music was great and the scenery/ graphics was beautiful. What I did not like: forcing us to play as Abby to show us her point of view/ trying to make us feel sympathetic for her. The game felt too long and I found myself saying multiple times “is this really still going? Can’t it end” I never felt like that in the first game but this game was painful to play. There was good points that if they had just stayed with it would’ve been better. I felt like they ruined previous characters traits and actions and it felt untrue to the characters. The game kept glitching especially during important scenes. I could go on for hours about it but I feel like this game ruined the first game and I’m choosing to pretend it didn’t exist. Everything I loved about the first game and the dlc for the first game was lost here. The game needed Bruce Straley I guess. My advise is not to play unless you like to be tortured throughout a game with what seems to be torture porn and lazy writing that.

Props to the voice actors and graphic designers though!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is by far the worst game I have played. It hurts me to write this as the first games holds a dear place in my heart. Here are my complaints:
1.) Joel: Joel somehow, though still going out of Jackson to hunt, has turned soft. He and Tommy both give out their names to a group of ARMED strangers and offer for them to come back to camp. It was heart-wrenching to see him be killed off in the first three hours, and the reasoning behind his death was terrible.
2.) Not only was it enough for ND to kill off Joel, they make you play as his killer for 10+ hours... no thank you. Nothing you could have done would make me like her. Especially since they have the game begin with his death. Maybe, if they had made Abby's gameplay first we would have gained more sympathy for her, but no.
3.) Tommy: So Tommy gets shot in the head by Abby in the theater, and somehow survives, it'd be hard enough to survive in today's world with that kind of injury, let alone a post apocalyptic. When we see Tommy again, he informs us that Abby is still alive. He wants us (Ellie) to go after her again ALONE after nearly dying by her earlier. We settled a life on the farm with Dina and her baby. Ellie doesn't want to go, and Tommy gets mad at her, it is so out of character for Tommy to act that way, it pains me to even watch that scene. They butchered his character along with the game.
Overview: Gameplay is great, graphics are phenomenal, but there it'll be a cold day in Hell before I play this game again. The first game was great, it's a shame to see Neil Druckmann ruin yet another series. The 7 year wait was not worth it.
