A fair score for this game how it is is a 7. Where this game falls short is its ability to grab my attention for extended periods of time, the controls, and the basis of any FPS, the shooting.

Controls: 2/10 The fact that I am forced to keep my aim/shoot on L2-R2 where almost every other FPS is L1-R1 is a massive mistake. It feels unnatural. It feels uncomfortable. Its down right annoying. There should ALWAYS be a plethora of control options so players can tailor the controls to how they see fit.

Targeting: 3/10The targeting is horrible. As many flaws as Destiny had, its core game-play should be a model for all FPS games. Battlefront is like trying to shoot clay pigeons with a shotgun. You have to lead your target whether your target is far or near. It just doesn't feel natural. That being said, I do like having to lead my target with long distant sniping. It actually requires skill and is very rewarding.

Graphics: 10/10 Not much to say here. One of the most, if not the best, looking games on the PS4.

    SFX: 9/10

Content: 6/10 There are enough different game modes to keep the PvP interesting for some time but the lack of campaign is difficult to swallow. Considering the scale of the Star Wars universe and what the core game delivered, its evident that EA will milk this game through DLC.

Recommendations: Wait to pickup a used copy. Its a fun game to sit down and burn an hour or two but for extended periods of time it gets boring and probably will just make you suck at other FPS games considering how wack the aiming and controls are.

The game is fun and beautiful with tons of modes and 1 more to come with the free dlc coming in 2 weeks. That said the game still is missing a few things. still very easy to pick up the pace in the game and have fun

This game does not go beyond the title, in terms of game depth, because it is really a battlefront and heavily focuses on the various battles that are happening during the rebellion. I wish it had more of a story line but I can settle with this. I imagine the next installment will have a story based on the new trilogy.

The graphics and sound design are stunning. And that's were the praise ends. Battlefront fails to deliver space battles, clone wars or 32v32 battles. These are all things battlefront 2 has offered from 2005. This game is very overpriced and I recommend waiting until the price drops.

The rest is unfortunately mediocre at best. Let's start with the obvious in that there is no single player campaign or Galactic Conquest, and prequel content is made to sit on the sidelines this time. This means that genuinely cool planets and heroes can't be included because DICE and EA have either limited themselves or been limited by Disney.

Gunplay is bland, with little to no recoil. Vehicles are clunky and hard to control on some maps (of which there are disappointingly few), and there are only three heroes per faction. Overall, I am disappointed by this game.

One last thing I forgot was that it was promised there would be no DLC, and then now there's a 50 dollar Season Pass. Knocking a couple points off for that one.

The beta was so promising... I was desperately hoping that the full game would be as fun and exciting, but sadly, it's not. Only having a small number of maps makes it stale very quickly.
Putting it as simply as possible, this is not a complete game. Just because game companies repeatedly ship half finished games so they can slog us more for the other half doesn't make it okay.

Starwars Battlefront 2 a PS2 GAME has WAY more content than this next gen game. Galactic Conquest, space battles, dozens of maps, campaigns, etc. This has nothing. This was made by the wrong company. This is not Battlefront. The game that was supposed to come out for ps3 and xbox 360 looked 5x better. This is a joke. This is just a standard battlefield skinned shooter.

    The vehicles control like crap

The power ups are spread across the map like Mario Kart

There is no single player at all

    No campaign, co-op or otherwise

The heroes are clanky and crappy, they make no sense

There are only 4 planets, so the "16 maps" is a big fat lie, because so many of the maps feel the same

The screen is constantly CONSTANTLY shaking from the explosions and crap

The gameplay is subpar and completely and utterly imbalanced, with a homing rocket launcher round with infinite ammo once every 18 seconds and grenade spam EVERYWHERE.

The ONLY thing this game has going for it is its pretty to look at and sounds great. Thats literally it.

There are moments where I found Battlefront to be a good game, but they were quickly erased once I realized that the first 2 hours were going to be my favorite moments. I streamed this game over Twitch and put a full 10 hours toward it before passing final judgment, and just like the viewers that I was engaging with and talking about the game with, I found myself very disappointed. This is not a complete and total failure, but it's a game that just never fully developed. Playing in Star Wars vehicles are frustrating because the aiming systems are complete garbage - no matter what sensitivity you use it's impossible to glide your crosshair over enemies - probably why you have to use a left-trigger/left-button to lock on to enemy air fighters. I constantly crashed into stuff trying to attack infantry from the air even after 30+ attempts to master the controls. Keep in mind that I am a great pilot in Battlefield and am a very experienced shooter player, so it's not coming from an inept casual player that is sad he can't cut it. I expect more from DICE and EA since Battlefield is fairly deep (and now includes a single player mode, even if it's just okay in terms of quality). Visiting the battlefields of the Star Wars universe and hearing the wonderful Star Wars soundtrack in the background are the best treats to have, but everything else about Battlefront is half-baked. The DLC is $50 in season-pass form and stands as DICE's opportunity to improve this game. Some might enjoy this game, so don't completely throw it out as a possible must-have game for you, but unless decent graphics, a soundtrack and nostalgia are enough to satisfy you, your $60 is better spent on other great games (Fallout 4 is a good buy in lieu of Battlefront, or even Black Ops 3 - I can't believe I'm recommending a CoD game over Battlefront). God how I wanted to love this game so much. I like many played the Beta and enjoyed it, from the gripping battle on Hoth I was taken back by the beautiful visuals. However even from that point the seeds of doubt planted themselves in my head.

Graphically I don't think any of us have a question with what DICE has done yet again. The sounds and visuals are stunning from the blinding snow fields of Hoth to the deep woods of Endor. It's "pretty" to be blunt. I have no doubt that any fans of Star Wars or those that have experienced this engine before will enjoy the flashes of red lasers flying over their heads and diving for cover when one of those pesky rebels toss a thermal at you.

Star Wars fandom aside what are we left with?

The maps though well designed from what I've experienced are limited to 4 for those looking for the "conquest" style of play from Battlefield. Supremacy and Walker assault provide 40 man battles but comprise a 4 map rotation. Now for me that's weak and I'll tell you why. Yes they look stunning, yes I love the sound but in the end the wonder does start to wear off that's just a fact of it. You pick up vehicles by dashing for the pick ups, which are the occasional AT which I've never seen more than one on a map at a time or fighters. Now the fighters are cool but if you are fighting on the ground chances are they are going to ignore you. So what you are left with is a giant infantry battle with the Empire only being able to field one AT at a time, I don't feel the desperation as a rebel.

I don't know what to say other then it gets boring. You cannot prone, crouching doesn't effect weapon accuracy and the guns feel about the same. You have your blaster, heavy blaster (light mg), pistols (smg) from my understanding and the odd burst weapon and a "shotgun". The selection is small and though I don't expect a wealth of weapons I made the assumption that you literally can make up whatever weapons you want and you made about a dozen. If we compare that to COD or Battlefield its laughable, I have more sidearms to pick from then main weapons. If you look at the original battlefronts you have sniper rifles that aren't specials, grenade launchers, sonic weapons and...well more creativity.

Gun play I'm not sure is going to entice hardcore gamers as its more family friendly and has a wider audience appeal. Its easy to pick up and play and the learning curve is minimal. Since even kneeling in cover means nothing as a guy running and gunning has about the same accuracy as you that's the ball game.

I think my problem is I expected Battlefield and that was silly of me. I remember Star Wars Battlefront fondly. Even if the singleplayer was basic maps with a bit of a story I still completed it because A) its Star Wars and B) it was still a challenge. I remember crash landing during space battles to destroy the other teams ship and shouting at my clone marine to run faster.

I'm not sure what Star Wars Battlefront is trying to be. It has none of the diversity of COD or Battlefield. Limited weapons, no weapon customization, character customization is just for fun but even in Star Wars I looked at my options and went meh. Vehicles are one the AT that you can actually move the AT-ATS when you do get inside is for a limited time and is a mobile artillery piece..still fun. Fighters are what you expect but with even your blasters being able to lock on it makes the game "family friendly" in terms of skill. You have more turret options to use then vehicles. If this was a battlefield clone but Star Wars I probably would have been more happy. I just feel this is cashing in on the hype of Star Wars right now. People can say its fun and ya it is, I'll still play it from time to time but I feel like I've experienced everything it has to offer and the day isn't over yet.

I would have liked the pick ups in game to be removed completely and perhaps a kill streak award instead. Anyone can take the hero pick up which is great for people and at the same time why is Darth Vader running in circles? The cards are perks but by another name. I have no real complaint with them but no praise either.

I gave it a 6/10 because my really disappointment despite everything is you had such an open book with this game in terms of what could be down with it. The result is a game lacking the multiplayer depth of even the original games in my opinion or its rivals COD, BF etc. Perhaps my dream was unrealistic but this game doesn't feel finished. In a galaxy far far away you visit maybe four-five planets out of the entire star wars universe. The season pass doesn't do it for me as I don't think we as gamers need to pay money for a game that just doesn't feel finished.

    Wardawn,

I've personally been using the same gun since I've started so I can have something to look forward later on in the game when I surely know it will become repetitive. You objectives are hammered by simplicity and lack of traversal options, which look all the more ridiculous in third-person as you see your trooper struggling to surmount a small ridge. Battlefront feels outdated, and the unlockable jump pack doesn’t do much to improve things, its overly long cool-down preventing repeated uses.

Performance is generally very smooth in-game, though there are some noticeable instances of texture pop-in on vehicles and the landscape, primarily in pre-game fly-bys or in the singleplayer missions. While the singleplayer and multiplayer missions take place on a few different maps, you’re limited to four planets – Hoth, Tattooine, Endor and Sullust. I would have loved to see more on offer, and though extra locations will be added later that doesn’t really help with the initial sense that there’s not enough meat on the game’s bones.

    Overall, kind of eh.

Gameplay: Played EA Access over the weekend for 10 hours and 2 issues. That netcode again and spawns are worse than battlefield. I have literally spawned in front of the enemy and spawn trapping can be done. The spawns will be a major complaint in the coming weeks along with hit detection. Just your typical EA/DICE multiplayer game.

Verdict: Rent before you buy or wait a month as EA usually cuts the price in half. Then you can snag it. If you do buy towards the full price, try buying used from gamestop. You get 7 days to return any used game at gamestop if you do not like it. No questions asked. There is always gamefly where you can set the 1 month free trial and try BF for free also.

Its VERY well balanced, with GREAT freaking combat AND mechanics, but the only REAL kink is the fact that there is only as much guns as Titanfall, but that's not terrible in my opinion, since there isn't a lot of gun variety in the Star Wars series, it makes the game more balanced, and it just makes it more authentic.

Beautiful game! Beautiful sound! Beautiful score! Beautiful animation! Beautiful gameplay! But the lack of content makes this a very ugly game indeed... This is what happens when developers spend too much time polishing the game and not enough time fleshing the game out with content. If you do buy this... then you're only gonna spend a few hours with it until eventually getting bored. ItBeautiful game! Beautiful sound! Beautiful score! Beautiful animation! Beautiful gameplay! If you do buy this... then you're only gonna spend a few hours with it until eventually getting bored. It doesn't have those Battlefield tactics that make Battlefield my favorite online shooter.

So, it looks great and plays well. And if you're a Star Wars fan then you're definitely going to feel A LOT of nostalgia. Go buy it if Star Wars means more to you than your wife and kids or if you've got some money to blow. But if you're a pragmatic spender like me then wait for a discount or until they add more content. Hopefully they have a GOTY edition or something after a while.

It's not the most complex shooter, but it's the ideal pick-up-and-play experience for Star Wars fans. Stunning environments, solid shooting and immersive sound design mask the shortcomings. [Jan 2016, p.82]

With the new film of the space opera saga finally on the big screen and the release of Battlefront's new sequel, both after a decade overdue, it is definitely the best time to be a Star Wars fan. The game itself is a dream-come-true for fans, and the Star Wars spectacle is strong in this one. However, if it is depth and longevity you seek... this is not the game you are looking for.

Spectacular production values help to make this game enjoyable in the early going, but it soon enough shows that it is painfully lacking in terms of maps and depth in its current form. [Issue#265, p.72]
