I am giving this half of a game a 5/10 due to the lack of dept in this game that you must pay over $110.00 to get the full game. You're only getting a bit of a game and EA want you to fall for the DLC that's way over priced. For myself I REDBOXED THIS GAME OR RENTED IT. THANK YOU REDBOX FOR SAVING ME $110.00. This is not starwars, is star BATTLEFIELD version DLC, as a fan of the Star Wars universe I feel cheated, a game that costs about 70 € and with a contended insulting and most importantly no story mode is for EA to rethink follow industry because players will not buy such rubbish.

The game looses a big deal on the Price - content sector. They stripped the game to basics just to sell DLCs and Expansions. Just like it happened with Destiny. This is pure BAD MARKETING if you ask me and its a SHAME for a company with a big name like EA DICE to behave like this to the customers. I hope they will listen to the community and give at least some free content.

They worked lines from the movie into other characters' dialogue to the point where it sounds like the people in the game saw Star Wars recently and are reciting lines to each other like an inside joke, while fighting Star Wars battles. "We've captured the point. ALL TOO EASY!" Han Solo recites lines we've heard in a dozen other games, but only heard once in the movies. The game wasn't written to fit in within the SW movies, it was assembled verbatim from them. Worse, it was assembled from the Star Wars movies we've seen a hundred times. Conveniently rushed to shelves in time to see a new one hit theaters in a few weeks, but we don't see any of that one here.

The problem is that if you were to strip away the Star Wars theme from these battles and reskin it with pretty much anything else, the game is not good. Sure, it feels like the originals, but they're a decade old. There's no excuse for this game to be the least bit shallow in terms of content, but there it is. You're running around looking for glowing tokens like Crash Bandicoot looking for fruit.

It comes down to people who are happy with what we were handed here, and the people who see what this could have been. It could have expanded on things like Jedi Knight or KOTOR, could have had gameplay options and freedom like the Arkham games did for Batman (tell me using the grapple hoist line Luke used to grenade the AT-AT, but free to use anywhere creatively wouldn't have been amazing) but instead we got the standard EA movie tie-in treatment.

Luckily I played it on xboxone 10 hour trial at my mates and canceled my pre-order from PS4 store when i got home.
There is no Campaign Galactic Conquest or Instant action game modes, No Space battles (the flying vehicles have the some of the worst controls I've ever experienced, they handle like shopping carts) and sky battles are badly controlled and There is a "season pass' for DLC, which costs almost as much as the base game itself. They have given us no clue as to what is contained in any of the 4 planned DLC packs, they should try to save some credibility and release the first three planned DLC releases free to all and the last one charge no more than $10

The online customization is limited compared to other online FPS, customizing your character consists of changing a hairstyle or skin color, and there is no gun customization. There are only a few maps, and they are mostly pretty dull and uninspired. I don't know why they cut the prequels out of this game, as that removes almost all of the fun lightsaber-wielding heroes (not that it matters, they did away with assault) and many of my favorite locations. Speaking of heroes, there are only 6, including Leia (over Chewbacca and Yoda) and their combat is 3 abilities that are not fun to use (I did enjoy lightsaber throw) and have long cooldowns. Battles feel small and characters die too fast. There are only a few fun game modes online, and those get boring.

They turned this game into an online FPS. However, it is greatly outclassed in fun and amount of content by most competitors. If you really want to try it out, rent it from Redbox or Gamefly first. This game was clearly rushed to be released before the movie to increase sales.

It seems to become this battle between fanboys and haters but I think underlying it there is this general feeling that gamers expectations are not being meet and we are not finding satisfaction in what we are delivered, or a significant portion of us anyway. So to make the point those who are feedup frustrated and disappointed vent with a zero review. Understandable but it becomes a bit of a mess of zeros and 10s basically offsetting for an overall of 5. In my view this game and others affected by this are not a 5.

For me this game is about an 8.5 but I do agree it could have been alot better in terms of value for money in the content we received. There should have been a campaign for one. The little training missions were really cool. Surely they could have expanded this into a fully fledged epic starwars campaign. It is also clear the game was chopped up to sell the season pass. Is this a trend that we will accept. Its clear we are unhappy about it but its probably neccessary for it to be financially viable. Im not sure its simply motivated by greed but maybe it is. Destiny showed us how successful that can be but when it comes at the cost of sacrificing the overall quality of the game developers need to be careful as theres only so much gamers will accept. Perceived value to gamers is important. We do not want to feel like we are paying fullprice for half the game.

The game itself I love to play. I like that its been simplified to appeal to starwars fans. Walker assault has been my favourite mp mode. The rush of a team win as the rebels is fantastic. Personally I like the direction they took with this game. If your a casual gamer or a star wars fan or both I unreservedly recommend this game. Do not be put off by the negativity. It is a fantastic star wars casual gaming experience. I think thats what they were going for and they certainly delivered it but its upset those that wanted it like the original battlefronts.

The thing i do agree on is it needs a campaign to give it more content. The season pass im divided on cause I think its just the reality the gaming industry faces to meet rising costs. Am I happy about it? no but I do understand why they are doing it as trying to sell the full game at game plus season price cost would be less acceptable to gamers. Personally I would prefer to be getting the full game at a higher price. I hate dlc as much as the next gamer and usually do not buy it as i know i can not resell it.

Battlefront is a near perfect game, except for 2 major flaws.

    1. There are not enough maps or offline modes. I mean, why the hell can't we do a droid capture or a cargo run with AI and a friend on the couch? They're small maps with no more than 12 players. For a $70 game, you do expect to get a little more environmental diversity... especially when there is no campaign. 2. Players die

For a $70 game, you do expect to get a little more environmental diversity... especially when there is no campaign.
    2. Players die too easily. There is much to be said for a quick-paced shooter, but Battlefront honestly pushes the limit to a point where it can be a real bummer to play sometimes. As my girlfriend says "I shoot them 4 times, then they shoot me once and I die!". Sure, foot shots aren't the most powerful, but something needs to be done to allow casual games to get more out of multiplayer.

Other than those two things, the game is beautiful, well thought-out and fun. Fun is really what it's all about and I think too many jaded reviewers didn't actually play much more than 10 hours before they said "It loses it's charm after 10 hours." I'm nearing hour 20 and I can't wait to play when I get home. The trick to making the most out of Battlefront is to accept that you will die sometimes (or most of the time).

Dice has done a great job with transferring the atmosphere and gadgets from the saga into this action packed nostalgia trip. Nothing but stunning graphics and awesome sounds makes Battlefront a game that will suck you in in no time!
The setting aside, the game plays wonderful. Controlling an infantry trooper or vehicle alike, the controls are fully responsive and feels natural at first, but in order to really shine, you must of course master everything. The game modes, although limited in numbers, will keep you playing this game for a long time. I've had a hard time trying to stop play Fighter Squadron and try out all the other modes, it really is that good. Controlling a tie fighter in the middle of a raging aerial combat really is a cool as I've always expected.
Many of the reviews state that the lack of content should be rewarded with a close to 0 score. Well, if you are a hardcore Battlefield grinder and enjoy the confusion of hundreds of guns and gadgets, I get your point. Myself, I really like what Dice did here: kept it simple and understandable. Unlocking everything will keep you busy for a long time, and most importantly, every unlock MEANS something. In Battlefield, you get tons of stuff throughout the game which actually creates an inflation.
There is off course flaws to this diamond as well, but the pros out-weight the cons in so many ways that I do not see any other way to finish this review than a big applause to Dice for delivering the game of the year.

Well EA, you've officially killed what spark I had for this new installment to the battlefront series. Now, I know the reviews for this game really are mixed, so I will give the best review I can for those looking to buy the game.

    (Positives)
-Visually, and soundwise, this game is a masterpiece. Putting on headphones and listening to the environment, the battle unfold around you is just amazing.

    -20 v 20. Finally. a real big team battle.

-Feels like you're really in the original trilogy

    (Cons)
-Four maps. They aren't incredibly big, either. Sometimes the spawns are so packed you spawn and die, like a 20 v 20 on Nuketown. It can just be chaos, and frustrating to play.

-"Buy the seasons pass to get the rest of this game" No. I was unimpressed i spent $100 to get this thing. I will not spend another $70 to get another hour or two of gameplay on each DLC,

-NO story mode. None, whatsoever. offline play consists of training (Tutorials) Survival mode (Easy as can be), and this failed multiplayer simulator. I was really hoping to hop on the couch with friends, my girlfriend, etc and be on a team of 18 other AI facing 20 AI. or even 12 v 12, if that hurts the rendering engine. But no. you get a 4v4, where you have to run and pick up the tokens once an AI dies, and you don't get to fight with your friends, just against them. Who on earth thought of that. EA, start to redeem yourself and fire those people.

-No replayability. I've tallied 3 hours, I'll probably never touch this game again. Rent it, borrow it off a friend, but heed my warning, and do not buy it.

-Online based. Like EA does, the servers will eventually go offline due to a new title being released, and it doesn't have the option to buy/manage your own server. Therefore, if you DO decide to put in hours, eventually, you won't be able to access it.

    (IN SHORT)
I gave this game a pity 2/10 just because of the graphics and sound. It's a very basic, very beta FPS, with not a lot of mechanics that hold up to any other FPS, let alone from DICE. You can definitely tell the tyrant that is EA got their claws into the crew, and cracked the whip hard on them. I am posting this to save people the money, and hopefully so EA can read this, like the thousands of others like it, and change the game, because this is exactly what is wrong with the gaming industry now.

At first, nostalgia takes place, and you are swept away in the beauty of the planets and the sounds of the blasters and ships. This quickly fades once you actually play the game. It is highly repetitive with little variance in this released version. There is not enough variety to justify the price tag, let alone a $50 season pass. EA has truly ruined what once was a great franchise. WithAt first, nostalgia takes place, and you are swept away in the beauty of the planets and the sounds of the blasters and ships. There is not enough variety to justify the price tag, let alone a $50 season pass. EA has truly ruined what once was a great franchise. With only four planets, and very similar game modes that just don't feel populated enough given the planet size, this game is a hard pass. I would not recommend getting this title. Save your money, and don't encourage EA. I made the mistake of letting my nostalgia take over and preordered digitally before I saw any gameplay, and Sony wouldn't let me cancel. Expand

A game that costs over $100 (season pass + basic game) with lots of content cut from the original Lucasarts series = garbage. If you enjoy really good Star Wars graphics patched into a Battlefield engine have at it but be warned it will cost you some extra cash in the long run.

Okay, let's set things straight. This game is over priced for what it delivers but it does not deserve a 0/10 at all; people giving it that are probably far too young to be reviewing the game or tyranical internet nerds that complain about the slightest detail of anything.

Yes, there are NOT enough maps at all (pretty much only 4), but the saying the game does not have enough content is ludicrous! There are a bunch of different game modes to play, and coop missions too along with admittedly tedious and limited customisation, but it's still there if you want it.
Now why should you not hate? It's simple; the game provides fun and exciting gameplay that really capture the essence of star wars. Sound tracks are (for the most part) great and sound design is astonishing! The guns are fun to use and combat is hectic but solid. The graphics are movie-like, seeing some of the stuff happen in game brings a tear to your eye at how good it is!
Honestly though, I am pissed about EA's money whoring season pass but i'm still enjoying the game, and i'm not being childish about it. Sadly doesn't live up to the originals but is a worthy contemporary take on the game. I will buy the season pass mainly because i'm enjoying the game and if you don't like the game don't worry, you don't have to buy the game!
On an additional note, voice acting is a little dodgy. It's a good, fun game, and looks incredible. Don't mess up the ratings systems with your tantrums.

It's not the most complex shooter, but it's the ideal pick-up-and-play experience for Star Wars fans. Stunning environments, solid shooting and immersive sound design mask the shortcomings. [Jan 2016, p.82]

With the new film of the space opera saga finally on the big screen and the release of Battlefront's new sequel, both after a decade overdue, it is definitely the best time to be a Star Wars fan. The game itself is a dream-come-true for fans, and the Star Wars spectacle is strong in this one. However, if it is depth and longevity you seek... this is not the game you are looking for.

Spectacular production values help to make this game enjoyable in the early going, but it soon enough shows that it is painfully lacking in terms of maps and depth in its current form. [Issue#265, p.72]
