I've honestly enjoyed playing this game. It feels like one is in a Star Wars world. The sounds and the general aesthetic is completely spot on. I've had a great affinity Star Wars space battles since the Lucas Arts original X-Wing and TIE Fighter days. And as a young man, I watched the original Star Wars movie at my local theater 18 times and treasure my ticket stubs that I've kept all these years from that time. Of course I've seen all things Star Wars since then and perhaps am in the minority when I say that I even liked the prequel movies as well.

So it pains me to give this game a zero. To have to have my thoughts so radically skewed for a game that is so sublime in its creation and visual and gaming appeal has taken a great deal of effort on the part of its creators. The implementation of loot boxes in this game IS gambling. I don't have a problem with gambling. I don't have a problem with loot boxes. I don't even have a problem with "play to win". I can completely ignore these aspects of the game and still have fun. What I have a problem with is telling me it's not gambling when it clearly is. The mechanic is a game of chance that determines game-winning advantages. If that is not gambling, then I don't know what is. If you enjoy gambling, this is the game for you. For me, I'll pass.

The game balance is terrible. It's based on loot boxes. Without them the game is trash, with them is trash as well. What EA needs to do is just rebalance the whole game, redesign the loot boxes to be cosmetic only. Just don't buy for now.

What a complete and utter disaster. This launch's reviews are comparable to the Batman Arkham Knight's PC Port reviews, except not for the same reasons. At least there weren't MICRO-TRANSACTIONS everywhere for the Batman Port!! There's pretty much no way to win, except by paying your hard earned cash on a trashy game with a short campaign and not much else to do.

The entire blind loot box experience can be compared 1 to 1 with a modern day slot machine in its application of addiction creating and reinforcing psychological techniques: the flashy spectacle and visuals that entertain the player, the obfuscated odds that change without warning, the false wins, and free rolls to trigger dopamine release and continue a perpetual cycle. They can use your playing habits to analyze how frustrated they can make you before you quit and give you a bone right before you do to keep you playing; repeat for as long as possible to give more opportunities for you to spend. This is why slots are the biggest money maker in casinos, and why these greedy parasites are trying to copy them for video games.

It's also the definition of pay to win. The supertrooper elite bundle straight up makes you the best thing on 2 legs for the foreseeable future because you've got a massive head start (especially now that micro-transactions were disabled). Gear/power based progression has zero place in a competitive multiplayer game. I don't stop playing StarCraft for 3 weeks to come back and get pwned by people who have permanently levelled up their damage or gotten abilities I don't have access to yet.

Sorry EA, but the defence that "it's not gambling because you always get something out of a loot box" is complete horse crap because a slot machine that pays out less than you put in on every play is still gambling. If it looks like a duck, and acts like a duck, it's a duck.

Lets also not forget that the single player campaign is hugely buggy, and unfinished. They are withholding the ending of the campaign until The Last Jedi releases to prevent spoilers... which begs the question of why they didn't just wait to release the complete game for the holidays instead.

If we have to sacrifice Star Wars on the altar of common decency then so be it. This game needs to fail hard to send a message to the entire industry that these disgusting practices will not be permitted to continue. That's coming from a lifelong Star Wars fan that owns basically every Star Wars book ever written.

As a family focused company, Disney needs to revoke EA's license (or at the very least the exclusivity clause) so we can see someone with actual ethics and love for the IP and its community make a game actually worth supporting.

I don't think I can stand more of this garbage for 7 more years.

the way the micro-transactions operate is incredibly similiar to a 'skinner-box'. skinner was a psychologist whom did alot of research into behavior. they basicly (ab)used this knowledge to maximize profit without caring about the mental health or financial well-being of their customer's. i highly recommend to read more about the research done by the aforementioned psychologist so you can make an informed decision on what kind of games to buy since these practice's seem to become more and prevalent in video-games.

    now to talk about the game itself;

it's an upgrades version of battlefront(2015) in which it does alot of things better gameplay wise, and its graphic fidelity is also very pleasing to the eye's. i personally had a great time playing the beta, i especially liked that they included space-battle's and a campaign!
but even though i enjoyed the game and i am a huge star wars nerd i wont buy this game.

the fact that disney, a company which develops products mostly around children. actually green-light such a harmfull feature to be implemented in a game which revolve's around their intellectual property is absolutely shamefull!

I have played it within 10 hours EA Access trial. This is a game designed as Pay-to-Win. Just to discourage such a behaviour in 60$ game - I am giving it an 0 point user score.
I cannot accept pay-to-win approach in game I have to pay the full price.

With the award winning 2005 Battle Front 2 being my favorite game that year i was ecstatic about the announcement for this Battle Front 2 (2017) especially after the rushed 2015 Battle Front paled in comparison to it's 2004 counter part in terms of content found in the game. The hope was with more time to develop this latest installment in the franchise could reach the volume of content presented in that original Battle Front 2 game while providing the graphical updates of 4k. Now lets open up the hood and see just what game we got.
    Graphics/Campaign -
With the graphics and stunning attention to detail Star Wars Battlefront 2 looks like a star wars movie. Dice must again be commended for their efforts especially in the graphical department with this games look. The campaign is sadly unfinished with multiple levels missing from the overall story. All though these campaign missions will be added at a latter date it still is inexcusable to omit them at lunch with the campaign being touted a major selling point of the game. Also multiple bugs have been reported and the game will need some patches to fix these issues. The actual story with Iden Versio starts off in and interesting direction for the series with the first ever main character; Where as in previous installments it was replaying the story of the 501st storm trooper legion as their commander recounts the battles him and his men participated in across both eras. Focusing in on Iden could have provided some more emotional investment but it is instead traded for cameo's from Luke skywalker and other Star Wars characters which is welcome from a game play perspective but from a story perspective it kills the attachment we should be having with our main hero. The Short campaign leaves little time for a believable story to take form and we are left with a plain predictable affair that I simply cant invest myself in. Although the fully rendered cut scenes are also a major improvement from the original in game footage shown in the PS2 days the story does not support the gameplay and flip flop of characters that Dice has chosen to still do. Overall the campaign gets a zero out of ten from me due to it's unfinished state alone. A campaign must be finished at lunch for people who want the game for that reason; you cant ask people to buy something and then force them to wait to actually receive all of it. So if you want Battle Front 2 for it's campaign wait to buy it until it has all been completed and is ready to play. For rural individuals who buy games with campaigns because they have no internet connection this disappointingly will not be a complete experience for you.
    Multiplayer -
Oh boy what can i say that has not all ready been said. this game is pay to win with contextual gambling elements and absurdly long unlock times for base game players unwilling to pay more money to dominate other players. Pay to win is a zero out of ten from me based on sheer principle alone. The actual Multiplayer would be fun with the inclusion of classes and a points system to unlock heros and vehicles during gameplay by rewarding "better" players instead of randomly like battlefront (2015). This is all for not as success is largely dictated by star cards and your luck with lootcrates or the amount of them you have unlocked with your real world money. These cards provided benefits to a players health, damage, ect and can turn a multiplayer encounter into a simple test of who has the best cards equipped instead of any form of actual skill. All eras are now represented with imperial, Republic, Rebels, CIS, First order, and Resistance all being playable. Ship to ship combat is also here along with other features missing in battle front (2015) bringing it more in line with the content seen in Battle Front 2 (2005). Though not as extensive with gamemodes like galactic conquest still missing, providing non multiplayer players even less reason to pick up the game.
Final thoughts For those who do not know i rate games by awarding a possible 5 points for Campaign and possible 5 points for multiplayer for a games total possible score of 10. Pay to win is an automatic 0 for multiplayer from me based on principle alone on top of the fact it's not fun or satisfying. lootcates are always a Negative 2 points due to a implementation of random chance that is not necessary, sacrificing fun for a gaming industry business exploit. Card systems are also a negative 1 due to another factor of random chance being introduced for no reason. So Battle Front 2 get a final multiplayer score of zero out of five. An unfinished campaign is an automating zero out of five. I cannot judge something that is not there in it's entirety so i cannot recommend getting it. Dice did a decent job; EA rushed them again and forced micro transactions, lootcrates, cards and pay to win into what would have been a passable game. sadly we got a money making experiment form EA instead

    Things that suck -

The auto-aiming obs from this being a console port - I clearly fluffed a rl shot and watched the rl turn in mid air and hit a target that wasn't even on my screen when I fired
    More cuts scenes than gameplay
    Really bad gameplay
The terrible plot I was really looking forward to playing the empire
We don't get to play the empire we're playing rebels in the wrong uniforms
Why are we playing Luke 10 mins in oh yeah to convince the empires hard core elite troopers the change sides at the drop of a hat
You don't get to play as the empire just as future rebels
The empire blow up one of thier own worlds just to convince us that the lead trooper needs an incentive to change I can't remeber her name its similar to the girl in rogue one tho
    The ship levels are poor
You don't get to play as the empire just as future rebels
The ai is poor you can flank the troopers just by crouching even walk in front of some of them and they dont see you
You can get behind them easily
The levels are very very linear and you are spoon fed what to do the whole time
You don't get to play as the empire just as future rebels
The levels actually look worse than the original
    The troopers aim hasnt improved
You don't get to play as the empire just as future rebels
    The game crashes a lot
    The crate system
The fact that DICE hasn't done a good game since BF4
You don't get to play as the empire just as future rebels
HAN SOLO HAS A BEARD WTF!!!!!
TBH the whole bar section with Han is a complete and utter waiste of ****ing time it serves no other purpose than to jam in some more movie related bs
You play in loads of 'movie' locations that are disjointed and have no consistent plot, story line or indeed relevance to each other. Oh look were in ep6, no ep3 wait now ep7 /facepalm wtf
This is the worst game dice have ever put their name on. Someone just saw the loot boxes as $$$$$ signs and the list of compaints last time and just thought **** it we'll throw together some disjointed plotless nonsensical **** and call it a campaign **** our customers they're all idiots anyway hahahaha
You don't get to play as the empire just as future rebels
This game is clearly been designed for consoles
I really regret buying this game loot crate **** aside this is a really bad game
The flying combat has been dumbed down

    Things that don't suck -

You get to fly the Millenium Falcon (only its completely out of context we were promised we would play the empire).

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME ITS A PIECE OF ****

However, as everyone knows by now, the "pay to win" lootbox progression system has tainted any good image the game may have had. I suspect the high profit potential of micro transactions were irresistible for EA and Dice. And don't get me wrong, there is a lot of money to be made in that space. Mobile games are making a fortune, and Blizzard does quite well with their loot boxes in Overwatch. But unlike Overwatch, SWBF2 has tied character progression to loot boxes. Whatever skin/spray/voice line or pose a player has in Overwatch, it doesn't impact the player's ability in game. SWBF2 scorns fair play in favor of allowing if not encouraging players to gain advantage over others by paying for more chances at improving their characters.
Although EA/Dice has temporarily suspended all microtransactions in the game, the only true fix is if they make progression its own thing, and leave loot boxes for cosmetic skins, poses, ect..

Horrible treatment of players, and removal by EA of MT’s is just a short term decision to calm their shareholders, and possible investigations by European gambling agencies. Despite all the warnings and people telling me I'll regret it and the abysmal ratings and the lootbox gambling, I had a great time with the singleplayer campaign, despite a somewhat stupid storyline and an abrupt ending.

And then, I tried multiplayer. It was...OK. At first I got upgrades and whatnot through just playing, and at a decent pace - but not always for the characters I was using. In fact, I got duplicates more often than new cards! And I get a crap amount of credits for the duplicates! Then upgrades slowed to a crawl. Then I got cooldowns.

Then I kept getting blown away by people who had either A) spent way more time than me playing the game B) knew something I didn't about upgrades or C) bought crystals before EA/DICE/Disney shut them off.

I wanted so bad to love the game, and instead I've now gotten a refund. I found myself disappointed in the whole experience because it was so...unbalanced. I'm also disappointed because it would take me roughly forever to unlock everything - or spend way more money than I ever intended to.

I expect pay to win schemes from mobile games. I expect it, so I don't play those. But a game I spent $80 on? WHY DID YOU MAKE IT SO HARD TO LOVE?

As much as I was looking forward to this game, I won't be re-purchasing it.

And I can't honestly recommend anybody else gets it either.

I'd give it a better rating just for the graphics and Arcade mode, but everything else drags it down so much that I can't do it. Avoid.

Star Wars Battlefront II provides a greater ambition than the previous installment. It has powerful war scenes, a brand new single player mode, and shows a much more magnificent Star Wars Universe. But just like the Jedi should be ware of the dark side of the Force, this game also meets some similar situations, such as beleaguered microtransaction elements and character growth problems. The first 10 hours of this game is full of surprises; however, the further you play this game, the more disappointed you will get.

Although game has huge problems with p2w microtransactions, it is still a good and fun gameplay experience with stunning visuals.
