A solid entry to the SoulCalibur series.

Customization is top tier as always, there are so many things you can customize in your characters, it's easily one of the best parts of the game.

Also, the amount of content is satisfying, and the multiplayer is decent.

Personally I'm not really a fan of the fact that many characters are paid DLC, I wish there was a progression system where you can unlock characters, but oh well...

Overall I think this game is good, but there's definitely room for improvement.

    Final Rating: "Good" ~ 7/10.

Regarding the offline content (the one that really matters to me) it's enough to keep you interested for around 20 hrs between the libra of souls, arcade and soul chronicle modes. It's true that the soul chronicle shows it's little budget with static pictures of the warriors, endless blocks of text that I doubt anyone has ever read and an almost passive IA but it's appropriate to practice.
The libra of souls is where you will expend more of your offline playing time and it's very interesting with a kind of RPG in which you take your own creation from editor and battle hundreds of fights, most of them quite easy but also with some difficult ones due the wining conditions or level difference.
Regarding the online, nowadays there are not a lot of active players and most of them are hardcore players that will wipe out the ring with your character if you are a rookie. Most of the remaining community is on the ranked matches and the casual mode is quite dead (although still enough to get the related trophies if you have some skills).
Regarding DLCs for me they are not worth it for offline players unless you are a fan of them because they poorly integrate with the offline content (I do not remember fighting 2B in any of the offline modes even though I bough her and I finished every single of them).
In summary if you liked this franchise in the past and are not interested in the online, this game is very recommended, specially if you find it on sale.

I don't think any SC game will capture the passion that was in SC IV. All the characters look the same, what the hell? The gameplay also suffered from the introduction of the rock-paper-scissors mechanic which is perfect for amateurs to spam.

The tutorials are insanely boring and fighting games need to work on that, especially on such a complex game as Soul Calibur is comapred to Street Fighter and Tekken.

Finally, the story was very badly handled, both for the created character and the main story. Not only is the choice of protagonist very bad, but every character is separated into different chapters, so you don't get this intertwined story and get instead these "filler" chapters for all the characters you enjoy.
The created character story is the most uninspired thing I've ever seen, and it took me 6 months of forcing myself to finish that utter trash, and even then I almost gave up on it. It also shows how BAD the character creation system is when all the NPCs you meet just look like randomised characters with the same face and model.

A you should definitely avoid this game, I was only suckered into it because of my love for IV and 2B being in it as a guest character, which by the way, they should be FREE, not paid DLC. The creators even had the gall to say the series would continue if it sold well, but the problem is, you gotta make a good product for it to sell well.

Possibly the best game in the series. Story mode is simple and inexpensive but every character gets his or her detailed story. Some people will complain the story isn't all cinematic like Mortal Kombat, but they don't have the money for something like that. Still i prefer the way soulcalibur does its story mode over ant other fighter.

The FOV in all the stages is atrocious so you see a blurry image in the background instead of beautiful landscapes like in the previous games.

The graphics and fighting mechanics are good. Though the characters still have funny looking faces that was the result of a redesign a few games back. The character roster is low compared to previous games, unless you're willing to shell out extra for DLC. Unlockables are almost non-existent.

There's one character to unlock and you can spend in-game points to buy a very limited number of customizable clothes. There's no alternate outfits for the characters, but you can piece together your own outfit and have it look decent enough (although not nearly as good as official costumes).

There's a story mode that's not any better or more interesting than previous SoulCalibur games. Going through it unlocks nothing.

The big single-player aspect in this game is the mission mode. You create a character and go on a sort of side-story, fighting battles and exploring a map to fight more battles and continue the story. The issue here is that the story in incredibly long-winded. There's so much text dialogue that you could just skip entire sections and still know what's going on. It doesn't help that the story also isn't very interesting.

The mission mode mechanics are also quite limited. You can find and upgrade weapons, though there's not much fun in this as you'll just equip whatever weapon is strongest and upgrades don't do much. Buying weapons from shops is pointless, mercenaries that you can use to fight battles for you quickly become over-leveled, and by the time you finish all of the required battles, you'll have enough money to buy just about all of the limited number of costume pieces. Also, you can't use your mission-mode character in any of the other modes.

The single player content isn't nearly as interesting as it was in the SoulCalibur 3 days.

Well, after getting through the story mode and mission mode, I was done with the game in just a few days. With nothing left to unlock and no other single-player challenges, this will go in the pile with Tekken 7.

Battle stages are very detailed and interesting, only shame is that number of available stages is not as high as some previous titles had. Character movesets are all flashy or at the very least efficient plus they change them every half a year or 1 year so it keeps gameplay interesting.

(I do know the tech skills but half the time I'm not sure if I failed the inputs or I'm getting true comboed which sucks)

It's also incredibly aggravating to punch someone so they're airborne for 5 seconds flying off but not off the cliff. Then what seems like the slightest breeze sends you off. Okay sure, there's some moves that are designed to send opponent's off whatever, I can live with that. Too bad the directional path they fly when taking damage is not linear. You can combo them all you want and they'll just go around in a circle never going near the edge.

There's a lot of times my character would reverse at some point and then start going back attack animations which I didn't want. Some of it I equate to me just not knowing ahead of time that the combo isn't going to work and my controls are going to reverse even though the animations haven't. But I feel like this shouldn't have to be a learned experience.

I enjoyed playing at first when I sucked and everyone I played with sucked. Then trying to fight the strong AI and better players I realized I can't do crap. The moves didn't really chain together the same in my head and playing around in the game wasn't really sufficient to build my own tech to fight other players or the hard AI. I had to go out of my way to watch some SCVI God's combo videos to learn how to play the game. I don't want to invest so many hours just to be average at the stupid game just so I can start playing it.

The game isn't all bad and I'm sure some people will enjoy it, but it really isn't for me.

Some enemies are way too easy but there is a huge difficulty spike in chapter 4. I think there are too many weird fighting conditions that make it too difficult at times. Some of them are just dumb. Ivy was hard till I learned to use soul charge. I'm currently stuck on Berserker level 48. He's way overpowered. And the mercenary I used sucks. They all suck... Now I like everything else about this mode though. Now arcade mode on very hard was hard but I beat it. Online is hard but I managed to win 5 ranked matches and 5 unranked. The great thing about this game is the visual style and the combat is fun at first. Anyone can play on normal difficulty and have fun. But you will spend a long time to get really good. Also creating characters is cool and you can upload them online and download other people's creations. The main story mode was boring since it doesn't have any voice overs and just has still images.. I skipped most of it and just played the fights. Same thing with Libra of Souls although it's way better in my opinion and has a couple decent cut scenes at the end. Also the move list on PS4 has XBOX controls I think. I had to go online to see what buttons they are on my controller.. This was annoying.. UPDATE after beating Libra of Soul and getting platinum. So it took me 35 hours to get all the trophies in Libra of Soul but one. You have to beat it once choosing good and once choosing evil. So you have to beat it twice to get platinum.. It took me less than 3 hours the 2nd time to beat it. This is for a few reasons. The first is I got much better at the game. But the biggest reason was I found out I could zoom out on the map and just do the main fights. Also I found out you can use soul charge by pressing R2 and left instead of pressing all three attack buttons and left... This made it a lot easier to win fights. I also found out you can press options to skip all the story. This saved me a lot of time pressing square to skip it over and over.. The hardest fight was against the ancient. I beat him at level 99 my first playthrough and using a level 90 mercenarie. It was hard to beat. I like Libra of Soul a lot more now. But it could still be way better. It needs more good cut scenes and every still image should have a voice over.. Also Libra of Soul could be easier to understand.. The game doesn't hold your hand.

Soul Calibur 6 represents the efforts of Bandai Namco to bring back the series in full swing. In Soul Calibur 6 we have started off with a reduced roster from the previous game Soul Calibur 5 and similarly to how Tekken 7 debuted after Tekken Tag 2. This is largely due to the fact that not only did SC5 have an unlikeable cast, but also because the game is a SOFT reboot. It doesn't take place during Soul Blade but it starts during the time of Soul Calibur and extends to Soul Calibur 2. A lot of twist turns and butterfly effects are in the game's story, which I wont spoil for you. However it basically resets the roster back to the roster we know and love from soul blade-soul calibur 1 minus Hwang unfortunately. The main story is pretty drab and predictable its not very exciting in the least. The individual character story lines are some what interesting, but like its sister game Tekken 7 it leaves a lot to be desired..

The customization on the surface is a tad disappointing because it reuses assets from soul calibur 4, 5 and 6 with the only improvements being that they look like a current gen costume selection, but as you dive deaper you start to appreciate decals, and patterns that you can add to armor and clothes to make them feel unique which is oddly satisfying.

Soul Calibur 6 has a plethora of new mechanics in play to bring it into the current generation of fighting games with a new polish. Adding several new mechanics that both satisfy veterans and new comers. Lethal Hit is a new mechanic that gives characters different properties to moves depending on the conditions of the Lethal hit. For instance if a character crouches underneath the opposing enemy that is grabbing, and then punishes the enemy that is grabbing with a specific move. It can create a different situation than it normally would if done regularly like:launch for a juggle, stun the enemy so you may attack more, or all of the above. It adds depth to an already deep game.

The Reversal edge system takes some getting used to. It basically is auto guard everything button with a counter attack attached. it sounds bad but every reversal edge is a vertical attack so it can be side stepped.. Or broken by guard breaks and unblockables. once hit by a reversal edge attack you are put in a rock paper scissors like qte with the opponent. it is very risky but some characters benefit from certain outcomes more than others so its easier to predict once you understand the rewards.

Online play feels good when you are playing someone with a decent connection as expected. The lobby features could use a touch up but its nothing i would condemn to hard. The most jarring thing about the online aspect is people can use creatable characters in ranked matches which kindve breaks ranked match. People can make characters that have a large characters fighting style really small or sometimes unseeable due to enlarging floating items over their bodies. I would hope its patched soon but i dont play ranked often.

All in all i give SC6 an 8. The story isnt great, and character creation is obnoxious online. Those are my main negative complaints. The game plays as good if not better than the much contested Soul Calibur 2 and brings a lot of flare to the 3d fighting genre. Even more so than Tekken 7 i'd say.

With the recent craze of making 3D fighters with a 2D aspect like a super bar and the various mechanics that go along with that, this game is no exception to that trend. The reversal edge is also one of the goofiest things the series has added. It destroys new players (unless they guess right during the mini game), and gets you killed at intermediate levels of play and above that understand how to deal with it. Making a reversal based on a mini game like setting where it is just a convoluted rock-paper-scissors isn't the best new feature IMO.

The character creation is nice, and that is honestly the deepest part of the game. There are so many custom combinations, you could make pretty much anything you want. However, the combat is dumbed down and 2D-ified with super moves and soul charge being tied to meter. The overall battle system isn't awful, but leave a lot to be desired from a longtime 3D fighting game fan. The genre has really slumped into mediocrity, and this is just another game in a sea of modern day mediocre 3D fighters, it's sad to see the genre fallen from grace, but I guess at the very least it's still around in some form and isn't dumbed down as the 3D Naruto games, yet...

This game is a fighting game in the vein of Tekken, however the combatants have weapons. The series has been around for quite a long time.

The game plays well and each character has good movements and controls very well. There are also many modes to play around with in the game, however the acting is very melodramatic. Each character has a prologue story to play which are voice acted

The issues I have with the game are: 1 The graphics are quite poor, especially the backgrounds. I also have a huge issue with the effects in the game where every move is accompanied with bright elemental looking flashes. This prevents one from truly appreciating the smooth motion captured animations that a weapon based fighting game can bring. The flashy effects make things so difficult to see, it's very disappointing. The loading times are also quite long between matches, even on a ps4 pro. I played it, finished it and became bored with it. I can't recommend the game unless it's bought on a sale.

This is a great reboot to the franchise. The game looks great and plays well. This is a good game for beginners/casuals of the fighting game genre. The character selection is also nice with it generally mirroring the original SC game with a few differences (like Tira (introduced from SC3) and Zasalamel (also from SC3). Geralt from the Witcher is a great guest for the game as he really fits in to the setting. The plot of the main story, Libra of Souls, is quite interesting.

I would criticise the following though: the individual stories for each character are quite cheaply done. There aren't many cutscenes, it's just artwork of them with dialogue. The main story where you make a character is also quite cheaply done. It's generally just fighting the same sorta fighters with a few differences.

As for the biggest criticism - the online mode. Matchmaking is horrible. I kept facing so many people with higher points than me and kept getting destroyed. I very rarely faced someone at my level.

Been playing since Soul Edge. This was a HUGE step forward for the series. Especially after the anorexic SoulCalibur V. The gameplay improvements and meter moves fit well into the game and seem more balanced than Tekken 7's desperation moves. The visuals could've used a bit more polish, considering that we are 3/4 into the PS4's lifespan and that Bamco knows how to make things pretty.Been playing since Soul Edge. The game does feel more like a remake with all of the features included from previous entries. But the story modes are deep and will keep you busy for a few weeks or at least a few marathon days. My only gripe, is that there is a few exclusions from the roster, whom I miss. But they've been balanced out with the newer characters, which are pretty cool and add more depth to the old SoulCalibur I-III story.

A very well done fighting game – nuanced and demanding, but also fun in simple instances of waving some big swords around. [13/2018, p.70]

SoulCalibur VI tries to go back to its roots and mostly succeeds. It is far from being the game expected after waiting so long for the sixth entry, with low quality visuals, long loading times, and not much improvement over the same old combat, but if the return of old character favourites and that classic gameplay is what is sought after, this will do the job, with plenty to do for the solo player in story modes, although there is a lack of options outside of that.

Precise and dynamic fighting system, great looking maps and characters, and the best customization system in any fighting game to date.
