On the surface, TDD is a AA PS3 game that plays like a PS2 game on a PS4 and while that may sound like a trainwreck it's actually not half bad. Graphically it's far from impressive with FPS drops plaguing the game every 10 mins or so, the VO is usually good or at least servicable and the gameplay is usually wonky and just feels a bit ancient. So why did I still sort of like it? Well, while playing it you could just see that whoever made the game actually wanted to make a great game and there is a good bit of interesting ideas in here that prove that if the studio had a decent budget, they maybe could have done something impressive. There's a pretty good variety of locations, gameplay features and the actual mysteires and investigations along with the deduction system were pretty fun. Combining them with a decent if a bit short Sherlock story and the pros manage to even out the cons. So why isn't it a 5/10? Lol, easy platinum, this is how games of this nature should structure their trophy lists. If you're into Sherlock Holmes I'd say that you should probably pick this one up, specially if it's on sale. Meanwhile narrative was good, the puzzles felt like time killers, sure most of them were skip-able, however there were scene puzzles, which you could not skip, wont mention to avoid spoilers. I lost ton of time on those scene puzzles, i wish there was rather a guide, to pass it after unsuccessful attempt, or some thing, instead of re-doing it for 1-2 hours until you get things straight. Another thing i didnt like is that there are too many loading screens. Also, there is no guide or helper that would tell you which route to take when you struggle finding a clue or going some where, i didnt like it and for those like me who pick story mode, there should be such thing. Other than that game is good, developers did a good job, making you as a player fully submerge into the narrative. I also liked how they created the amazing atmosphere. Expand

I felt it was way too short ! It's under Crimes and punishment in terms of overall playing time value.
Too bad I liked the story and as usual the acting is great and the game investigation mechanics are fun (especially the end of each scenario when you play with the evidence and form connections in your mind).
Just a not on the technical aspect I really wish the team had made a bit of

Just a not on the technical aspect I really wish the team had made a bit of an effort on some animation like climbing a ladder shouldn't be painful to watch. And I had some framerate drops in the game in some places ... shouldn't be happening.

    1. What happen with Watson? Why he looks different?
    2. What happen with FPS? On my PS4 it running like a slideshow?
    3. If you want to make a game like a Tomb Rider, do it normal or don't try this.
    4. In 3th chapter investigation is unobvious.
It's a bad parody of Crimes and Punishments, I'm disappointed.

I generally steer clear of Sherlock games as I'm a fan of the original books and several series. Having played some older games as a child I found even then the character didn't translate well to the medium. So it was only recently that I decided to play this game and was reminded why I avoid most attempts at handling the character.

Having played some older games as a child I found even then the character didn't translate well to the medium. So it was only recently that I decided to play this game and was reminded why I avoid most attempts at handling the character.

First, there was no challenge on the standard difficulty. Second, the voice acting was abysmal for everyone but Holmes and Watson, and even they weren't completely up to par. The only attempt at making the game difficult seemed to be to avoid explaining gameplay effectively. That's by no means clever of the developers. It's highly discrediting.

The 'moral decisions' are problematic as well. You are never given sufficient information to make a decision. A person as logically grounded as Holmes would never make these decisions until they were certain of the facts. We are not permitted that certainty, and that pulls you completely out of the character.

I found the physical character design of Holmes and Watson was both excellent. Everyone else needed some serious work. The minigames I found entertaining and seamlessly integrated.

The addition of a 'daughter' was one of the worst aspects of this game. Holmes has never shown any inclination to parenting and his treatment of children had never been like this. The second the daughter showed up and Holmes started talking to her, I immediately rejected the character as Holmes. As this was early, it made the subsequent OOC-ness easier to tolerate, but also disappointing.

Overall, if you remove the naming, it's not a bad game to play. But when you apply branding, it comes with expectations.

This would be a good game for someone younger, who is not enamoured with the original characters and instead has become comfortable with compromise. For me, Sherlock Holmes is one of the most interesting characters in literature and the complexity of his character is completely lost here.

This game is very hard to score. Some things it does perfect, like world building and specially the investigation systems (the menu where you connect your thoughts is amazing). Cases are fine. But the lack of budget shows in animations, loading screens, ugly transitions, occasional frame drops and bugs (this game froze on me one single time but I could tell I was lucky).

Then there are some design decisions tough to swallow, like the fact every zone of the game is disconnected from the rest of the game so you are forced to fast travel everywhere. Too much reliance on quick time events during the action set pieces. Or some dungeon puzzles that don't belong to a Sherlock Holmes game but a Tomb Raider one, smelling like a trick to artificially lenghtening the playing time. To make things worst, this specific puzzles are either painfully easy or trial and error pattern puzzles. No deduction or intelligence needed, just a lot of deaths. Playing as Sherlock Holmes this rubbed me the wrong way.

All in all I enjoyed playing this game but it had potential to be so much more. I wonder what could have been done with more time and budget. It's full of good ideas poorly developed. Also, as a bonus, it's an easy peasy platinum trophy if you are hunting for those.

    Mediocre.

This game will appeal to girls or children in my opinion. Rather simple gameplay, light story and not the best game engine. For game in 2016 it is not so good, but even this game have some interesting features in each case, which make you play it with ineters sometimes, but in general the game became boring enough too fast ( it's good that the developers made it short enough).

    Pros.:
    - Investigations.
    - Some characters are cool.
    - Gameplay is solid.
    - Exorcism short quest.

    Cons.:
    - Bugs. Annoying freezing, glitches.
    - Unclear motivation of the characters.
    - The ending with the very strange behavior of the characters while everything is in a very extreme situation.

If not bugs I would definitely recommend it. Because of the bugs proceed with caution.

Most of the cases were good, but not that challenging even on hard. Too many annoying "minigames" and silly puzzles. Some jankiness here and there.

It's not a god awful game, especially on it's own, given how brilliant the series are overall. You will likely enjoy it, if you are a massive series fan. Otherwise steer clear for now and try the predescesor Crimes and Punishments.

The ending didn't even have any deductions and the daughter segmemts were just a bunch of wasted resources.

Greatly enjoyed the sequel, worthy continuation of Crimes and Punishments. Can also appreciate the extra features the developers have added: more free roaming, situations which require quick reactions, as well as more versatile cases.

The ending ruined it for me, though. That being said, still a great game; if you enjoyed Crimes and Punishments, I highly recommend this one to you.

The Devil's Daughter is a collection of minigames sewn together with a very questionable story, but that manages to keep the player amused for the duration of the game. Particularly given the atmosphere crafted in every detail of London and the deduction mechanics, the game will often make you feel like Sherlock.

The story is such fun, and its world rendered with such affection for the source material (and for Victoriana, in general), that you can’t help but be swept up in the mystery. [September 2016, p74]
