All right, it's not a 10/10 this time... But people throwing zeroes around and spouting "I hate Capcom!" are just some serious bulls*tters and they should take a chill pill... Capcom has been on an awesome ride for about 3 years now! They hit it home with RE7, DMC5, RE2 Remake, MHW... At worst I'd call RE3 Remake a blunder on a nearly perfect record after their redemption.

Capcom has been on an awesome ride for about 3 years now! They hit it home with RE7, DMC5, RE2 Remake, MHW... At worst I'd call RE3 Remake a blunder on a nearly perfect record after their redemption.

I haven't played the original, I didn't own a Playstation when Resident Evil series came to be and so I got to the series much later. I fell in love with last year's RE2 Remake and I picked up the rest of the games in the series and began to play through them. RE3 was never easily obtainable on PC though (it's not on Steam like the rest of the series for example), and I really didn't feel like pirating the game and emulating it, so I waited for the remake.

And as a newcomer, I was not disappointed. Quite the opposite actually, the single-player portion of the game is a blast. I am not sure how I feel about the fact that Nemesis is pretty much coming after you only in scripted moments, otherwise he's less of a threat than Mr. X was in RE2 Remake, but this is not a negative for me so much, because Mr. X's unpredictability messed with attempts for speedruns :D

The game is rather short, that's a valid criticism. The multiplayer part is of no interest to me, so I would have preferred to get the game at half the price, but since I was a huge fan of RE2 Remake, I coughed up the money and I don't really regret it. It's just not gonna be an instabuy for many people, but it's worth playing through definitely. It's still a smooth, enjoyable, adrenaline fueled ride with many great moments, but it won't be a 2020 GOTY contender most likely.

While not quite hitting the same heights as 2019’s Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3 is still a stellar game that, while fairly short, hits all the right notes, and is ultimately a very satisfying experience.

Resident evil 3 starts off brightly with it's opening area highlighting all the strengths of peak Re2 but quickly falls off after that. The new dodge move is a fun additional mechanic but it does take the game away from survival horror towards an action game which some may not enjoy. The latter areas in RE3 are either really small or linear hallways with a few branching hallways. The latter areas in RE3 are either really small or linear hallways with a few branching hallways. While RE2 was built around one main area RE3 takes you all over Racoon city and the quality of the game suffers for it as no area is truly big enough to capture the magic of RE2 minus the first area. Nemesis the Mr X stand in makes the box art but it clearly shows a misunderstanding on what made Mr X so great. Mr X was used only a handful of times so every time he showed up he was imposing and each foot step could make you shudder. Nemesis on the other hand feels like he's in half the game and while early encounters are tense by the end you will be sick of his ugly mug. What aids that is some encounters are far to easy dissipating the tension that Mr X created so well. Jill is an enjoyable protagonist and the supporting cast all fulfill their roles diligently but there are no stand outs. The length has come under fire as while it is about as long as an RE2 campaign there are 4 in Re2 compared to the one here. There are no bonus missions present here either. Overall RE3 is a game worth playing but is disappointing due to how great it starts and how averagely it ends. Expand

The top grade graphical and gameplay goodness that was the RE2 remake has even been bumped up to a higher notch here. This game is stunning both visually and auditorily! I was surprised at just how much I enjoyed playing this game. Many people have complained that it's too short. I'm an average player (not some sugar-fixed, twitching, impatient spaz) and it took me about 8 hours to complete. I find this duration almost perfect. I don't live in my parents basement. I actually have a job, responsibilities and obligations. The RE2 remake of last year was nearly perfect but a bit long in my opinion. I don't need a horror game to last 30+ hours. Perhaps a fantasy RPG like FF7 Remake, but then again, a game like that will probably take me months to complete. Yes RE3 has some stages removed from the original but it also has new ones- which I actually think work better in relation to the game's context and narrative. I've seen a bunch of crybaby reviews slamming the game for removing the typical puzzles of 90's video game obscurity. Trust me when I say that those puzzles just do NOT hold up well anymore. We're 2 decades past that. Rehashing those gameplay mechanics just wouldn't work and I always felt in the case of the OG RE3 that it actually stalled and broke up the otherwise superb pacing of A HORROR GAME.

*Also, for the record, there are no QTE moments in this game. If you see reviews mentioning them in the game, you know it's a fake review-bomb*

Stacked up against RE2's remake was always going to be a tall order for this game. In terms of length, replayability and variety of the experience, RE3 falls short of RE2. With Jill being front and center for RE3, the lack of 2's separate paths is noticeable.

Taken on it's own merits, I believe the game is great, however. Jill's characterization in my opinion is the strongest it's ever been which adds tremendous life to the game. The gameplay changes, such as the dodge mechanic, suits the more action oriented experience in the streets of Raccoon City wonderfully.

    Pros:
    - Jill as a character is stronger than ever. She has great dialogue and feels like a fleshed out character
    - Gameplay feels great. The dodge mechanic adds a new way to play the game as well as the more durable combat knife rather than the degrading one from RE2
    - The story is tight and plays out at a good pace. While my playthrough only lasted 6 hours, it felt like a complete experience.
    - The visuals are gorgeous

    Cons:
    - The game isn't very long. My playthrough landed around 6 hours.
    - No additional post-game content (yet). There isn't a Part B to partake it and it's telling once the credits roll
    - Cut content from the original RE3 is a strange choice

Overall the game is worthy of an 8, in my mind. It's a great experience that would be far more appreciated with a lower than full $60 retail price. Hopefully Capcom adds additional content like the Ghost Survivors missions in RE2.

Done with the dumb things, on with the real things.
The game is flawed, as a fan of the original I will say that, still it is a remake, a new version of a 20 years old game. Is there things they could have done differently? Yes. Are there things they cut that I would prefer it they had included? Yes.
It is a good, but short game. So if your plan is to not replay it then I would wait for a sale, if you plan to run it multiple times then I would get it now.

    Pros.
    It looks great.
Good controlls, minus one thing I will mention further down.
    Sounds great.
It is good to be back.

    Cons.
It is on the short end, makes it feel rushed.
Sometimes pressing to get out from something does not work even if you fill that circle, that needs to be patched.
    Nemesis does not feel scary.

It is a good game that, had they given it more time in development, could have been great. Removing and changing things in a remake I have no problem with, just that if you do that you have to replace it with something new. Perhaps they could have expanded the first area with Jill searching for survivers. They could have also expanded some of the other areas, perhaps even having Nemesis showing up less, but making him more scary the few times he shows up.
It could have been so much better, but it is still good, and does not deserve all these 0 from people who think in 0 or 10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a longtime RE fan. I loved the RE2make last year and dumped a lot of time into it. I was super excited and not surprised given the success of RE2 that Capcom would release a remake of RE3. And it does not disappoint at all. 1.) Length and Replay Value- Do not listen to all the salty “fans” on these other reviews saying the campaign is too short to justify a $60 price tag, in my opinion that’s wrong. I spent 8 1/2 hours playing through my first run on hardcore which is a solid length for an RE game. My first play through of RE2 remake took me 7 hours for Part A and 2 1/2 hours for part B. So it’s just barely longer than RE3. With the inclusion of unlockable content including an in game shop that sells game altering items and costumes. As well as a new difficulty called Nightmare that shuffles enemy placement and item placement the replay value is high in the RE3 remake.

2.) Nemesis- I keep hearing Nemesis is completely scripted now. He was in the original too so I don’t understand that complaint. Nemesis is way more intimidating this time around compared to the original. He will cut you off, sprint after you, and pull you to him Scorpion style. Mr. X was intimidating at first in RE2 remake but once you knew his limited move set and how easily avoidable he was he became more of a nuisance. Becoming a road block keeping you from doing the next objective (looking at you RPD Library). Nemesis on the other hand becomes the objective when he is on screen. Down him and you will be rewarded handsomely. Nemesis encounters are set pieces to drive the story forward rather than a road block that was intimidating at first but quickly wore down its welcome like Mr. X. Capcom made the right choice keeping Nemesis scripted. Having Nemesis constantly stalk you at certain times like Mr. X would have been annoying.

3.) Main Characters - Jill is a badass protagonist in RE3 remake and way more fleshed out due to her having PTSD from the Mansion incident in RE1. I liked her voice actress too. She had some funny one liners as well as some serious weighty moments with Carlos and with Nikolai. One scene in particular that stands out to me is when Jill first meets Nikolai and Nikolai promptly shoots and kills a comrade whom he believes is in infected. Jills voice actress and the the motion capture on this scene had me totally invested.

Carlos character is the biggest departure from original RE3. His character and look was dorky in OG RE3 but has been replaced with a suave, smooth talker in the RE3 remake.

Jill and Carlos chemistry is on point and I loved all of their interactions in the cut scenes and walkie talkie conversations.

4.)Gameplay - Gunplay is tight and responsive. Jill and Carlos feel agile and more fluid than Leon or Claire with the included addition of the dodge mechanic you feel better prepared to take on the zombie hordes roaming Raccoon City.

5.)Graphics/Animation- Jill and Carlos hold and aim their weapons in a professional manner. Which might not mean a whole lot to most players but I love accurate representation of tactics and movements, these characters are elite and they should look and feel the part. Where to start with graphics? The RE engine is a powerhouse, the facial expressions are amazingly realistic, giving you the feeling that these characters are real and you want them to survive.

The lighting is superb especially on the streets of RC and in the hospital. Some textures and decals look a little blurry but that’s just a small gripe. The cutscenes are well made, movements are realistic and lip movement is perfectly in sync. Feels like you’re watching a movie. I Didn’t think it was possible but RE3 really does look better than RE2 and I thought RE2 looked fantastic.

6.) Audio- Although I was a little disappointed that the RE3 original soundtrack wasn’t included like the RE2 OST was with the deluxe edition of RE2. I was still kept on edge by the ambient noise. Tension is the name of the game here and this game deserves to be played with a nice pair of surround sound headphones or 7.1 surround sound system. You can hear zombies moan in the distance, water dripping, winds blowing outside. Gun shots sound heavy and feel like they have real weight behind them, especially the Glock 18. The star of the soundtrack is the little things and it’s all incredibly subtle, I played with a pair of Audio Technica 7.1 surround headphones and I was completely immersed in the survival horror.

Bottom Line : RE3 remake is a worthy successor to the RE2 remake. I dare say that I liked this remake just a little bit more than the RE2 remake which is bound to be an unpopular opinion. True RE fans will love diving back into Raccoon City. The graphics were better, the antagonist more intimidating, the gameplay more refined, and the protagonists more believable and likable. Jill’s my girl!

After a stellar remake of an arguably the best Resident Evil game ever made, Capcom has let down our expectations by giving us a more scripted, more linear survival horror action game that will probably be forgotten like so many sequels that have gone the path of less resistance when it comes to game design. RE3 make feels more like a DLC than a full-blown game.
