The shooting feels great, and the 'Nanotrite' super-powers that you can use feel amazing too.

RAGE 2 should not be judged harshly for it's paper thin story, because it never set out to entice you with a story to begin with. It's nothing more than an excuse to put you into different set-pieces and locations where you can shoot stuff. That being said, I always appreciate memorable characters in any form of entertainment and unfortunately for RAGE 2, it falls flat in creating any kind of interest towards the characters or the world that they live in, as a matter of fact, the original RAGE did world building much better and had many more memorable (and frankly, better looking) characters. It's incredibly disappointing and while it did not impact the game-play, the lack of any interesting characters made it very hard for me to care about the people I was supposed to be fighting to protect.

I give RAGE 2 an 7 out of 10 because it is at it's core a fantastic shooter, with combat unlike any other FPS game and has the signature 'id' seal of quality plastered all over it, but the disappointing absence of any character development and a wide-open world that's as big as an ocean but as shallow as a puddle holds this game back from being a truly memorable experience. Seeing Avalanche take part in the development of RAGE 2 was a major red flag for me and it seems like my gut was right.

RAGE 2 is a game for lovers of fast-paced FPS action. The gunplay is amazing, almost as good as DOOM (2016), and the game has a ton of things to do. Although it’s repetitive and the main story is shorter than expected, the overall package is solid. It runs at 60fps on PS4 Pro, with some minor dips. I highly recommend it if you enjoy quick combat, gore; chaos and brainlesss action.

A 10 to counter the 0-bombs. Once the 0-bombs dissapear, I'll take this review and 10 score down to it's correct score of 8. The only way I can contribute to that is by doing the same thing but at the other side of the scale. metacritic's score system is dumb as well. Many, many gamesA 10 to counter the 0-bombs. Many, many games stay without score because they don't reach the necessary 4 reviews. This makes quick valueing of a game impossible. Changes that need to be made:-
-Show the score from the get-go!
-Make a written review mandatory for scores from 9 and up and certainly from 3 and down!
Unless changes in the scoring system are made, sites like Metacritic will become untrustworthy and useless. One could certainly argue that that moment has already happened
On the game itself: why do almost all recent games ship with an open world? What's wrong with a more linear game? Uncharted was one. It was good. Doom was one. It was great. I read here people nagging on the simple or absent story and at the same time shouting themselves hoarse that the action is narrativly interupted. Sigh... game reviews, by critics or users -hey everybody's a critic for the last 6 years already- have lost all merit. Rage 2 getting 70-ish and block pixel games or walking simulators getting 90-ish just because they're "stylish"?? Doling out zero's because the kiddies bear a grudge? Or because it's all the rage (haha) to do so? Yeah, lost all merit.

The player powers are old, one is a double jump power, wow, that's never been done in an FPS before. Overall the game is poor for a 2019 release. The campaign takes about 8-10 hours, which is a joke for a AAA priced game. Wait for a mega sale when its $10-$15.

Horribly laggy on PS4. I cannot say it enough. If you cannot make your game work properly on a PS4, don’t release it! The frame rate is of only 30fps in theory, but it can drop to way lower number as soon as you engage in combat.

It’s also not a very interesting story. Nor is the gameplay anything very engaging. Overall I was very disappointed with this game. It might look and play nice

I have never had a game that made me think that first, the sticks on my controller were broken, then, that my AV receiver was somehow causing a latency so it had me redone my cable management to plug my ps4 directly to my tv, and then, had my thinking that my TV had broken and was no longer supporting game mode. And why ? As it turns out, this game has not been optimised for the base ps4 so there is a horrible input lag that causes a weird acceleration and buggy dead zone, making precise aiming nealy impossible, which is just unacceptable for a fast shooter like this. It made me turn on the aim assist , that's how bad it was. That is the reason alone i gave this game a 4, otherwise i would have given it a solid 7. Rage 2’s nonsensical story is unbearable, and the unskippable exploration parts are mostly irritating and boring. Luckily, the shooting gameplay is so amazing that it’s easy to forgive these flaws. And while encounters can become repetitive, new weapons and abilities make sure there’s always some fun to be had.
