This is my first review on Metacritic, honestly this game is so addicted. The story is awesome. Gameplay mechanic is well-made which allowed you to exploring the entire Tokyo based on reality. This game is well comblination of Pokemon + Visual Novel + Dungeon Crawling.

Sure the graphics may not be groundbreaking but the style and presentation make up for that tenfold. I have never seen a game with such artistic charisma and charm as Persona 5. I dare say anymore out of fear for spoiling the experience so I will end with this:

This game should be a necessity for all gamers and it is worth a PS4 purchase. If you already have a PS4 and have not played it yet, please for the love of god pick it up, I guarantee it will...

You very rarely get hyped for YEARS over a game and when it releases it lives up to your expectations. Persona 5 is one of these miracles. Before Persona 5 I had never played a persona game so i wont be able to make comparisons. But let me tell you one thing, persona 5 is a blessing and well worth the delays that people had to endure.

Persona 5 takes place in japan and revolves around the protagonist who you can name yourself but he is referred to as Ren or Akira. I will refer to him as Akira for this review. The main plot of persona 5 is complex and hard to describe but easy enough to understand in game. Akira witnesses a woman being abused in the streets and steps in to help but is convicted of assault himself and placed on probation in tokyo with a distant relative. During a dream the following night his soul ascends into a world between dream and reality and he is told that to save his future and the whole of Japan from ruin he must reform society as a trickster. This is where the fun begins. The game revolves around Akira heading into places called "palaces". There is an alternate dimension named the metaverse which is where evil peoples visions come to reality. Only tricksters and persona users can enter this place. To reform evil people you must traverse the palace completing objectives and stealing the treasure or source of the evil desire. In persona 5 you live a double life, in the day you are a regular high school student, studying and wandering Tokyo in your everyday life, at night a phantom thief stealing the hearts of villains. In persona 5 you will gather a crew of people who have really creative designs. Ryuji is a rebellious troublemaker, Anne is a model, Yusuke an artist. The personalities go on but they gel incredibly. As a trickster or a persona user, just like how evil cognitions form in the metaverse, your personality takes a materialised form and you will use this to battle enemy personas or "shadows". The battle system is really like no other and is a turn based fighting style, you will have four teammates at any given time and you will take turns either using a gun, primary fire, or a persona move, using persona moves that an enemy is weak to will knock them down leading you on to endless possibilities in the fights. The battle system is the only battle system I have never gotten bored of so you know it's insane. Each palace takes a good 5-10 hours on average to complete each taking different designs and puzzles which adds a great sense of variety. Also the voice acting, persona 5 is one of the few games that actually has a good english dubs, no voice seems out of place and it fits. In the real world you have 5 abiltiies if you like, proficiency, knowledge, kindness, charm and guts. increasing these abilities will unlock new confidants and abilities to use in the metaverse. Confidants are people you have a bond with, hanging out with them in the daytime will increase your bonds and occasionally will give you new items or abilities to help in battle so make sure you hang out with as many as possible. My only problem was the hanging out with one person moves time on really fast, a simple activity such as reading will occupy half of the day meaning you will be rushing to get every confidant maxed out as the game really pushes you on as each day (as the game is mapped with a calender) is set with specific events. Persona 5 has the most plot twists i have ever seen and some events made me cry, laugh and smile with pure joy, the game really toys with your heart to the point that I was actually really upset when it ended. Some plot twists were jaw dropping others were predictable but fun all the same. The game does start slow however, the first hour of this 160 hour game (for me) was really vague, to any new persona player the first hour will be utterly confusing. Past players may have an idea of whats happening but new ones will be completely in the dark. Luckily after that first hour everything gets somewhat explained and new players will enjoy a smooth story game which is fun for everyone.

Another Amazing point is the soundtrack. All tracks seem very similar in style but all pack an amazing punch, the musical element really makes the game such as "life will change" and "last surprise"

The game offers a side quest mode too, Mementos, mementos is the palace of the general public where you will fight enemy shadows at peoples request, at the end of the game due to it being story driven and story only all side quests you want to do MUST be complete by the end of the game.

    Positives:
    -engaging lengthy story
    -bubbly characters
    -good va
    -unique and enjoyable battle system
    -fun everyday activities
    -mesmerising soundtrack

    Small cons:
-slow at start for new players

    Mixed feelings:
    -game moves very fast

The cons are really nothing to effect the overall rating as you can easily brush them off, small nitpicks on my part

A great stylish game, I can feel all the details of the game are about phantom thieves. The game may not be world driven, like a open world for you to investigate, but a great story driven or theme driven game. All the aspects of the game are polished for the theme. 33% of the end trophy is earned, considering it's a 100 hours game, that's a very impressive number.

My personal favourite feature in this game is how the social links (or confidants) work, in these games, every confidant is worth spending time with due to their exclusive features which are a great deal of help in advancing the story. Now that i mention the story, i began the game feeling somewhat disappointed in Atlus for using the flashback feature in a game, i dislike this feature for personal reasons, however, as i advanced through the story, i became aware of why they chose to use this storytelling technique, it is definitely a unique and intelligent use of the medium and they have done a fantastic job of revolving the story around this. As for my opinion of the game, i feel that it deserves a 10/10. As a massive fan of JRPG's and turn based games, this series, and this game in particular are at a level so high that other JRPG's should be struggling to compete with them, i could go on and on about this game, however, like most Persona games, they should be experienced by the player and so I recommend playing this as soon as possible. The story is great, it tackles real world issues with a really unique style and in a way that doesnt feel like they're trying to force their opinion on you. As with any JRPG its lengthy whith my total play time coming to about 92 hr. (granted that all isnt story but still, i think i played the game like a normal person would without doing a bunch of side quests or grinding)

The combat is turn base but they introduce a lot of really cool features and systems that give turn based combat a breath of fresh air.

The graphics themsevles may not set any records but good lord is this game stylish. The game oozes style and just down right beatiful art style that to this day is still my all time fav that no game is even close to beating. The attention they put into all the art, characters, bad guys, enimies and just the game itself is staggering.

Down right best sound track in a video game in my opinion that suits every situation in the game with the perfect atmosphere.

The characters or "confidants" are all superb characters in their own right and the game rewards you with relevant perks and skills for spending the time to get to know these great characters.

This barely scratches how much i love and feel about this game. All in all this game is just a must play, even if you dont like JRPG's. (wait for it to go on sale!) i've seen many people who dont like or play JRPG's that tried this game and enjoyed themselves. In total the game is just an outstanding package that delivers on so many levels, so much so that even a year later i still love this game just as much as when i first played it and still carry what i felt and took away from it to this day. At the end of the day i think thats probably the biggest factor in any game, what did it make you feel? What did you take away and does it stick with you?

After playing this game for over 150+ hours, you feel really connected to the teammates and they become almost real. The story is fun but has it's dark underlying tones that battle some problems that as a society we face today. From the everyday struggles of being a student to the sinister thoughts of those around you, be prepared to fight for the long haul.

The artwork for Persona 5 is stunning. Amazing detail was added to even the smallest aspect of the game such as the in-game menus. Persona 5 really shows that games don't need to be realistic in artstyle to shine, and it really gives it charm.

As far as the music, you must listen to it. Seriously. Acid Jazz really gets you into the vibes of the game, from the slow paced songs of the average day to the upbeat and amazing battle music (Especially when on the last day of a Palace, just me).

If you enjoy any sort of RPG, you will probably enjoy Persona. As mentioned in the other reviews, it is a JRPG which means the battles are turn-based; perfect for any strategic thinker. Don't let the strategy turn you away though, Persona 5 comes with many aids to help out your battle plans and make it easier for anyone that does not want to finely control the battle experience.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed Persona 5, and I dare even say it has become my overall favorite game and experience and I highly recommend it.

As the Trickster, you assemble a group of Phantom Thieves that enter an alternate world known as the Metaverse and use their Personas to change the hearts of corrupt and sinful individuals in an effort to build a better society in downtown Tokyo.

The gameplay is unique, diverse, and rewarding as it intertwines engaging social interaction with an addicting, downright fun combat style. Many times I would find myself smiling and cheering as I landed the perfect combo with one of my Phantom Thieves.

Throughout the 100+ hours I played, I found myself emotionally invested in the characters and overall story. The characters are unique and flawed, and that's what makes them feel real. It made me feel a sense of joy as I saw them grow and succeed alongside me. The story tackles dark and complicated issues in society and handles them with contagious positivity.

The artistic comic-book style and catchy acid jazz soundtrack beautifully compliments the enjoyable gameplay and engaging storyline.

When the game finally ended and I had a few days to reflect on my experience, I realized I genuinely missed the characters and this universe that I had come to know and love.

Perhaps the only RPG it stands in the shadow of is the Witcher 3, though it took both DLCs for my playtime to compare to Persona's (136 and 140 respectively). These are two very different style o RPGs, with the Witcher having an entire book series to rely on for characterization. Additionally the stylized nature of Persona, the way its narrative is presented as almost a 3D graphic novel whose main character you control, and how the game's systems are interconnected with how the story is told, gives Persona 5 a sense of harmony and symmetry - a feeling of all the pieces fitting perfectly together like a puzzle - that is unmatched in any video game today.

My only criticism against the game is that there are some minor pacing issues. There is a lengthy tutorial that took me up to 8 hours to complete before the social simulator part of the game finally became unlocked and I could explore the streets of Tokyo. That said, it took me 140 hours to finish the game, so the tutorial is proportionate to the length of other tutorials for games of a much shorter length. Another problem with the early game is that a fundamental game mechanic goes explained until after you clear the main dungeon, which based on how you managed your time (waited too late to clear the dungeon) can break your save (there are however a multiplicity of save slots that should be used in case you make this error, or any error in leveling your character). The game also dragged for me a little at around the 3rd act, which depending in how you played can result in a lot of free time, which when concluded transitions into the plot's weakest story-line. Once this bump in the road concludes the story really ramps up with great plot twists and character development, and the pressure to max out your stats increases immensely as you have less and less time to do so.

I could go on about the side content and achievements, but you get the picture. Persona 5 is easily one of the greatest and most memorable experiences I have ever had playing a video game.

This is my favorite game of all time. The palaces, which are the game's dungeons, are for the most part very fun and well built. I've never had any balancing issues and the game was challenging enough to be enjoyable. Everything about the game's visuals is AMAZING! The colors it uses, the character designs, even the UI is a wonder to look at! And the soundtrack is great as usual for Persona games, so much that I hear the tracks while doing many things at home. I definitely recommend this game because it's able to mix a interesting cast of characters with addicting gameplay and it only gets more expansive the more you play. 10/10 Expand

You can pretty much do anything and you have to use your time of the day wisely. You can get a job and earn money, and do many other things.
This is the dream JRPG game that every fan wanted!
The soundtrack is on a league of its own! By far the best soundtrack in ANY video game ever! There has been no other game that I can think of that can come close to this full soundtrack list. From the song 'Last Surprise' to 'Life will change' to a simple area map song called 'Price'
Clearly game of the year for 2017! It's going to take a lot to surpass this as my favourite JRPG.
Everything about this game is a clean 10/10! I would give it a 11/10 if I could.

Deserved every thing it got the Metacritic score and metacritic user, the open critic ratings and the award it won at the game awards for the best RPG.

    Story:
The story of this game is actually no joke a thing of beauty. The story of persona games have always been an amazing journey they just deliver the damn best possible "anime-ish" story with amazing twists and moments.
The story of persona 5 revolves around the protagonist who was framed for assaulting a man for no reason. When in actuality this certainly wasn't the case. I won't spoil the main stuff of the story for you people! The first few hours of the story may not feel masterclass quality but after like 5-10 hours you'll be hyped and ready and so willing to spend all your time on this game because the game's story is so good that it makes you curious with great twists and awesome villain figures, and when I say awesome villains I mean it. The villains are portrayed so well that you literally would want to punish them asap. There was this one villain which I didn't hate that much, he's actually the second villain in the game. I thought he wasn't that hate worthy! Near the end of his palace I found out about something absolutely he did that was absolutely notoriously and enraged me...Then there is that one villain "boy" who I ABSOLUTELY loathed. The game somehow managed to even make me feel some "pity" for him. As you might've guessed by reading the stuff I said that the game actually handles its villains masterfully. The true and canon ending of the game is super satisfying and the bad ending is actually trash. I recommend you definately do the true ending because it the canon one(thank God).

    Characters:
The characters in this game are amazing and absolutely amiable. They are portrayed so damn well. There is not a single main character who I can hate, might've hated Ryuji at some moments but I like him as a whole in the game. Their voice acting is just uff I can explain how excellent it is, it is simply ineffable!! It sounds so damn good like so damn good, the English version and Japanese version both but I believe the English version is truly the superior one. The protagonist of this game Joker(Akira) is truly an amazing character. He is my second most favorite persona protagonist right after Door-kun(Minato/Makoto), his costume is so damn sick and he actually speaks plenty in the cutscenes and during gameplay that it feels very great to me. His signature persona Arsene is cool as heck...I had the DLCs so I actually mainly used Izanagi, Asterious and Messiah later on I started using other DLCs legendary personas. I actually heavily recommend the DLCs.
The confidants of the characters are actually quite lacking if compared to the previous personas. There are no actual confidants for Akechi and Sae Niijima they just automatically level up through the story. The best girl Makoto Niijima actually has quite possibly one the worst confidant in the game, her confidant literally focuses on her talking about a girl named Eiko and stuff. The confidants don't express the character's as much as the the games predecessor persona 4 did. The confidant part is not as cool which I would love to see get improved in the Persona 5 Royal
➡️ Favorite male character: Yusuke Kitagawa
➡️ Favorite Female character: Makoto Niijima

    Gameplay:
The gameplay is turned based combat which feels better then ever here. It is so damn improved and well that I who didn't think would like this type of gameplay much ended up liking it a lot..
There are features when you knock all the enemies down, you can choose either to hit them with an "all out attack" or to loot them, you can also make them submit to you and become on of your persona. The soundtrack that plays during the regular fights, "life will change" is soooooo damn good to listen to. It is such a catchy song! The gameplay includes a new feature which give you the ability to use a gun which is amazing an helps greatly. The overall layout during the battle sequences is the best it has ever been and is amazing in general.

Verdict: Persona 5 is one of the best RPGs out there and it takes you on a long amazing journey. There is a **** ton lot of content here and if you got the platform to play it on trust me this is a MUST PLAY!

    ➡️Personal ratings: 10/10

Half the time it’s a social simulator where you interact with a diverse characters, each of which has a unique and developed personality, along with a major social issue, that you help them fix. Levelling up your “social links” grants abilities and bonuses in the other half of the game: a dungeon-crawling, party-based, turn-based JRPG. This is where the game goes into its own league. Persona 5 was released in 2017 by Atlus for the PlayStation Consoles. It was highly rated (average of 93/100 by user reviews), and well received by those who’d heard of the franchise before. The game brought in many new fans to the Persona franchise as a whole, including myself. Compared to its predecessors P5 goes above and beyond. It keeps the tried and true character development, along with the party combat format. But it adds so many more mechanics and stylish quirks that it just grows much higher than its predecessors.
The plot of the game follows a nameable protagonist who’s just moved to Tokyo on probation (after being arrested for defending an assault victim against a corrupt politician), and discovers that he can enter the Metaverse, a dimension made of Tokyo’s collective psyche. From here he makes allies and takes down some of Tokyo’s most corrupt or evil individuals.
As to the technical side of things, it holds up on all sides. The graphics are amazing, trumping not only every other Atlus game, both almost every other JRPG to date. Even on PS3, stylistic choices cause it to look good and run well. The mechanics start simple and get complex, but in a way that the player knows what they’re doing and feels rewarded for doing it. Mechanics such as “1 More!” and “All Out Attack!” add stylistic flow to the combat. The game gets progressively harder over the course of the game, allowing for challenging combat, especially on the hard and merciless difficulties.
Overall, I love this game. It performs amazingly, and does everything with so much style. It’s unique, it’s interesting and it’s deep. If you like JRPGs with interesting core mechanics, and more symbolism than an English Literature class, then this is the game for you!

Everything you do has a reason for you to do it, nothing here's pointless. The story has fun moments and even sad ones that bring you to tears, and the sensational music never gets annoying. If you want to get into JRPGs or the Persona/SMT series then start here, with the most refined and stylish game yet!

(Soundtrack Review) If you're a fan of P5, then you should already have this soundtrack. All 110 tracks you definitely will recognize and remember when it happens. Shoji Meguro has made the perfect soundtrack of tracks that stand out on their own, but not compared to the songs with Lyn. Lyn is a perfect match for these songs and they never get old, even in the 1000+ battles you'll go through in the game. This jazzy soundtrack may well be my favorite soundtrack of all time

Persona 5 is a miracle video game, it builds on strong foundations that make each aspect superior to most entertainment nowadays and is packed with things to do

YOUR STORY: The balancing between your student life and 'Phantom Thievery' is masterful, each day (which are short) gives you the choice of living it however you want: by hanging out with your friends, working, studying or whatever you could imagine as a young student in Tokyo. And the feeling of having to make a name for yourself and your social life in school is great and when you level up a stat, it feels as satisfying as the combat does. The story is excellent and again, is built in such strong foundations that it never fails to impress.

THE COMBAT ROCKS: Turn-based combat is not a sweet spot for me, only a few games and RPGs have actually made this type of fighting feel fun and engaging. Persona 5 is one of these rare games with it's amazingly styled turn based combat which feels fast paced and again, satisfying.

THE STYLE AND MUSIC: Holy. **** The music in this game is out of this world, not even a film should have this great a score. It's jazzy feel makes gameplay more smooth and the intro sometimes just makes me want to dance. The highschool notebook, 'in your face' graphic style is nailed with menus that are cleverly styled and designed for player accessibility.

CONCLUSION: Persona 5 packs an outstanding amount of content which I applaud. This may be my favorite RPG of all time and I certainly won't forget the incredible soundtrack, the relatable characters, the fun combat, and the hundred hours I spent in this awesome world. This is not only an essential game, but an essential experience.

    10/10 Masterpiece

BRILLIANT. If this game is not a example of high-end video gaming for the JRPG genre, then i do not know what it is. My first Persona game and it had me enthralled into the series, I do not normally get "hyped" but seeing the protagonist be accepted into Super Smash Bros Ultimate nearly woke up my neighbors. The only possible way I could see a person disliking Persona 5 is because it'sBRILLIANT. If this game is not a example of high-end video gaming for the JRPG genre, then i do not know what it is. The only possible way I could see a person disliking Persona 5 is because it's just not their taste(understandable completely), it is a bold JRPG that lasts a while, or they are completely just plain old "stupid". I don't believe this game is a masterpiece, but I can't think of any other rating than a 10 because that is what the experience has felt like, the flaws I would acknowledge are simply story-related, I would not spoil but it would become obvious as you play and a pretty useless game mechanic but it doesn't show up often(that's why it's useless).

I can't sing nothing but praises for this game.

The Persona series has always been a weird franchise, teenager going to school, while simultaneously fighting against demons, through the power of Personas, reflection of their inner self, being of immense power.

the game are wacky, but most importantly they are excellent JRPGS. Persona 3 tackled the theme of depression and darkness, while Persona 4 went with a more upbeat mood with the central focus being friendship

So what is the theme of P5? Rebellion and corruption, a group of highschooler that decides to reform society by punishing evil people by "stealing their heart". The idea isn't game-changing in itself, but it's everything else that makes this game so wonderful.

The characters (both of the party and side characters) are deeply troubled and the stories they tell are really interesting. it truly feels like you are using your time to know these people better, to help them overcome their hardships.

The game is also stylish as hell, the sub-area of Tokyo and the palaces (dungeon) are jawdropping and the soundtrack composed by Shoji Meguro is incredible as always (seriously, i think it's among the best soundtrack ever, on par with masterpieces like Ocarina of Time), using acid-jazz and industrial influence to create a unique atmosphere.

Lastly, the combat system is very engaging, a turn system that rewards knowledge of your enemy and tactical approach.

Persona 5 is a masterpiece in world building, story telling, combat mechanics and visuals. Just buy it if you haven't (beware of the length, the game is at least 60h)

Great story which deploys really nice and characters you can relate with.
I really liked the turn based battle even if i am not a strong fan, great variation of enemies and bosses.
Only the last boss was not as great but the whole ending sequence is too good to let you abstract a point.
