This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Mass Effect will go down in history as one of the best told stories in gaming. Gaming fits right between film and literature in terms of deliverable exposition and with the Legendary Edition including all DLC’s as well as an expanded ending, players can truly immerse themselves in this deep and beautiful narrative. Characters are both interesting on a surface level and profound in their respective backstories and motivations. The universe it takes place in is rich and worth looking under every rock. Every visual seems completely intentional with how it fits in the world. Dialogue is well written and performances are gripping. The freedom of choice offers different perspective and experience but it never takes away from the writer’s direction. Gameplay evolves each game while also having its own charm and intricacies to be discovered as you move between them. Specifically with combat, it feels like every aspect was carefully tuned to make sure the players experience remained both fun and engaging. It rewards skill and creativity with preferred builds. Sound design is incredible. Everything hits hard where it needs to and adds a subtle touch where it doesn’t. Gun sounds are pounding and unique. Ambience is perfectly immersive. Music is iconic. Themes will grip your heart and stay stuck in your head. Expand

It's a full 10. The lack of Miranda's rear is well made up for by the continuation to stick it to the Portuguese 'reading' 'people'. They can't subtitle for every minor language on earth.

One of the best game in the history got review bombed because Portugees can´t speak human language. I don´t really know how to address that and remain not vulgar.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition is amazing and I am really glad that same as Fallen Order, this game showed EA´s overlords that single player RPG games are highly desired by us, gamers.

These Russians and Brazilians that review bombed this masterpiece because their localization wasn't as good as they want it to be should have refunded the game instead of leaving a negative review because they are for some reason spacial... Many people didn't even get the game in their language and I don't see them complaining about it... Grow up.

Only negative thing I can say about the game is that you can't get a physical copy of it... Thats it.

But back to topic, this series was a breath of fresh air. Narrative in ME1 will hook you in desptie some outdated aspects, but ME2 and 3 are loads of fun and have phenomenal gameplay. I played on PS4 Pro and enjoyed both the 1440p60fps and 4k30fps modes. Kept switching back and forth but ultimately kept the 4k resolution. High frames is smooth but you don't notice it much after you play on 30fps after awhile, only right after you switch. ME3 was pretty so ultimately kept it at 4k30fps. Single player experience resolution is better, multiplayer more frames is better

    - will always feel better on pc due to the limited number of abilities you can quick use on the controller

For about seven years, the Mass Effect trilogy was my favorite series of all time. As a space opera of truly epic proportions, the trilogy has its ups and downs, but as a whole, is one of the best series ever made.

The original Mass Effect had a task of introducing a new universe filled with opportunities to the players. And it understood the assignment perfectly. Within a couple of hours, you have interacted with every race occupying the known universe. You are given quests to deal with some of their problems, giving you more insight on their culture. It feels very natural.

For the main story, you become a special agent for the government and you are sent to hunt another of your kind. Getting to visit a world after world, resulting in you being even more grounded in the reality of this universe. This game features one of my favorite villain speeches as well as one of the most iconic decisions in gaming. The main story ends in a perfect crescendo that sends you off to the next game.

Mass Effect 2 had the hard time of following one of the most competent introductions ever made. And it succeeded with flying colors. Dropping the stiffer combat from the first game, every action you take feels a lot more fluid. The rework of abilities makes them feel more active and fun to use (Biotic Charge being my all time favorite Mass Effect ability).

The main story of Mass Effect 2 is kinda meh. The very beginning and the final Suicide Mission are some of the most iconic moments of the series, but between that, the other main missions are kind of generic. What saves the storytelling hard, is the fabulous side content with the main cast of characters. The loyalty missions are some of the most fun content, giving you more time to fall in love with all the characters on your ship. Also some of the best stories found are in the included DLC packs like Overlord, Lair of the Shadow Broker and Arrival.

Then comes Mass Effect 3. Ok, to say this game was a little controversial is one of the biggest understatements you could make. The ending of this game is one of the most reviled things in gaming history, by people who only consider a plot thread ended, if it appeared in the final cutscene. To me, this whole game felt like an ending that tied the story throughout its entire run time.

If people want to act like this game is worthless over a final cutscene, then they are willfully ignoring some of the best moments the series ever had. The Genophage decision is one of the most multi-faceted decisions in the series, taking in account a spider web of decisions made in the previous games. The solution to the Geth-Quarian conflict is one of the most epic moments within the entire series. Thessia truly shows the desperation in what you are facing. The only thing I will give to the people who needlessly hate this game, Kai Leng, is the lamest weeaboo insert I have seen in gaming.

Where Mass Effect 3 also shines is the combat. By taking what ME2 introduced and polishing it to its final form, Mass Effect 3 has undeniably the best gameplay in the series, allowing for fast and fluid combat that will never bore you.

In conclusion, each game in the series offers something slightly different, while keeping with the main theme of the story. You come to Mass Effect for the best main story in the series. You come to Mass Effect 2 for the best cast and side content. And you come to Mass Effect 3 for the best gameplay and for some of the most iconic moments within the series. What a fantastic series that everyone should experience.

Overall this is a great way to experience this masterpiece of a franchise. It isn't perfect tho, during my playthrough of ME1 I experienced quite a few bugs which is something that had never happened to me in the past - even game breaking ones. ME2 fared much better but still had awkward graphical hiccups and the same goes for ME3. Would have been nice for this to have been a bit more polished since it obviously needs some patches but even in this state I'd call it the best way to play gaming's greatest trilogy.

The remaster still stays close to the original with the added bonus of improved graphics and shaders and all the DLCs. It lost the multiplayer element of ME3 but the multiplayer was not really a big deal to me.

The combat is still incredibly fun and strategic if you choose to play on a harder difficulty. The RPG elements like levelling and the important decision making are still one of the best. The story and how you shape it within all three games is one of the best video game story-telling right now and the characters are super memorable with most of them with compelling back stories and satisfying arcs. I would also have to mention the world-building is still incredible to me, how BioWare has able to handle the history of the different alien races and the historical interactions between them is beyond me.

If you're an OG fan like me, don't wait, pick it up now. And if you're a newcomer and have interest, I strongly recommend giving this trilogy a try, you will not regret it.

Character development is great, story is superb, the acting is excellent, loved the ending (synthesis). It was interesting to see how game development accelerated from ME1 to ME3. Mostly I loved how it engaged me in the characters (Tali, Liara + Kaiden especially) and I became emotionally attached (slightly) to some of them. If I was really critical I would improve the fight dynamics, which were basic at best, and improve movement (Shepherd couldn't run for more than a few seconds in ME1 and ME2!). All in all, well worth the cash for 140 hours of gameplay. Expand

Despite the presence of some bugs, I think this remaster is good. Here's why. When you start the game, you think "well, what's been done here, everything looks exactly the way I remember it, doesn't it?"

It’s the original trilogy with amazingly updated graphics. It still runs in Unreal Engine 3 and not 4 like Andromeda but I think that’s for the best as Character models in that engine looked oddly clay-like. The Additional polygons on characters give the added depth to character models without drastically changing their in game appearance. As far as the story and gameplay goes ME1 gameplay is more i. Line with ME2 and 3 but still comes across as different enough that the game still seems substantially different in the gameplay department. There may be technical limitations with this but it doesn’t make the game unplayable. Actually ME1’s improvements make it much more approachable. many years ago I rushed my way through ME1 after playing ME2 for the story, leaving most side missions and dlc untouched simply because the game was not as enjoyable to play as ME2. The gameplay is far more enjoyable and less clunky lot and with this remastered I find myself surveying all the planets, doing all the side missions and dlc as the experience os not as frustrating even though gameplay remains quite dissimilar from ME2 and ME3. In this regard I can see how BioWare succeeded , this was never meant to be a remake or a reimagining of Mass Effect it was to make the entire series as a whole
More cohesive graphically , artistically, and even in regards to the story, ME1 no longer feels like the black sheep of the bunch but part of an exciting trilogy that will lure folks like me who just played ME1 “because they had to to get the ending they wanted in ME3” with its better pacing, leveling system
and gunplay. There is much less to be said about ME2 and 3 remasters, they look amazing, they were not bad looking games and aged better than ME1, that said the 4K textures are still impressive as well and some stylistic changes here and there round out the changes. All in all it’s a solid package for $59.99. Judging this as a remaster I give it a 9/10, it fails to get a perfect score because of a game breaking bug on Luna, where if your biotic power accidentally hits a closed door in the final facility Shepard will not be able to interact with anything until the game is relaunched. If BioWare fixes this in a coming update I will revisit my review.

The experience is great ,even better than i remember, the desicions, the voices, the emotion still there as ive experienced almost 7 years ago, don't know why complain about some russian voice (?)
the story is really really good, some of the best i would say, the charisma of the characters, its unique enviroments, the politics, the depth and atention to deatail still beats some actual games, the gameplay is fun, sometimes frustrating because of the bugs, in ME1 many times the mako wont start or it will, but wont move at all except for the wheels and then will teleport to other place, sometimes i had to reload the game because the AI it got stuck
ME2 also has bugs related to the companions of shepard, that will fly or move randomly arround mid air, some missions also have to be reloaded because the things that supose to happen wont, hope they'll patch this issues as soon as posible.

but except that, it is pleasing to see this trilogy updated to the "current gen" it is a must buy if you havent played this masterpiece, it has all the DLCs and it is one of those games that worth $60 for the replayability, the long campaign, the fun that the 3 games has to offer, I already have arround 50+ hours in 1 & 2, and are great!

If you (like me) never played and finished these games, this is definitely the best way to experience them now. All DLCs included + resolution bump + gameplay changes that make the 1st game less janky is enough to justify this remaster. It isn't perfect, though. The 1st game still has some jank and stutters here and there (i blame Unreal Engine) and some audio glitches (like voices been cut off before the character can finish their sentence) are a few examples i can give as a con for this game, but is it game breaking? Not at all. I recommend buying this trilogy instead of the original 3, you'll save a lot of money by doing so.

Also, a side note regarding all these negative reviews: this is not a place to vent your frustration about a missing feature or something that you don't like. This game isn't a broken mess, it runs well and it isn't a cash grab. Rating the game 0 or 1 out of 10 just because you can't change VOs or because your language isn't available in the game is not only a childish behavior but also can lead less informed people (but people that don't mind playing game with X Voice Over or english subs) to think somehow that this game is broken or something, which isn't true at all. So you're better off voicing your concerns over EA's forum, not here. And for my fellow brazilians that are complaining about the lack of portuguese subtitles in these games, all i gotta say is: stop being lazy, pay for some decent english classes because that's the kind of knowledge that will stay with you forever. Burst the bubble of your ignorance.

I went in knowing that Mass Effect 1 would be the "roughest" -- the story more than made up for the clunky and aged mechanics. It is wise to be aware of the relative age of the first entry before jumping in. It's worth playing through to fully enjoy the story in the other entries, but it is not the best experience gameplay-wise.

So a few hours into ME1 in the Legendary collection I'm quite dissapointed. The gameplay is very clunky, the level design feels very outdated, you're basically fighting the same few Geth enemies for the duration of the game and the AI is stupid. This is not at all what I rememberd Mass Effect to be like. So I completed ME1 and played a few hours of ME2 and that is what my memory of Mass Effect is like. ME2 and ME3 is just on a whole different level compared to ME1. The visuals are a big step up, the gameplay is A LOT better, the story is better, the AI is better. ME1 is basically a whole different game and I had just forgotten how old and dated it is.

My complaint is that the game has performance issues with very obvious frame drops every now and then. I'm playing this on a PS5 and had expected much better performance. I'm not sure if the problem lies with the game though, or if the PS5 backwards compatibility isn't very good.

I know a lot of people complained about ME Andromeda. Sure it had technical issues. But people were complaining about everything from facial animations to gameplay. Let me tell you this. The facial animations in the original games isn't good. They are down right creepy with staring eyes a lot of the time. They often lack emotion. People simply doesn't remember. As for gameplay, the original games are very dated by modern standards and Andromeda is far superior in that level.

Overall, the Legendary edition is the best way to experience Mass Effect, whether you've played the series before or not. Just know that you can't escape the fact that the games does feel dated.

Update: Got the platinum trophy and finished the whole trilogy at insanity difficulty, story-wise and gameplay, ME2 is still tops, but graphically ME3 just looks superb on the PS4. The ME3 DLC character made the ME3 experience much better, story-wise, and the finale was better executed with Legendary edition.

Overall a great game with a compelling story. Some things feel a bit dated in the first game like the controls and animations and sometimes the objective can be a little confusing leaving you running around wondering what to do for 10 minutes. Other than that an awesome game that's well worth buying.

Incredible and engaging story and Lore.

Interesting Characters besides commander Shepherd (the most boring protagonist ever).

    The gameplay is kinda bad.

Characters shine with crackling chemistry and player choices add the desired flavour to the epic space opera. Monumental stakes and uplifting themes create a strong canvas for the gorgeous vistas and unique races the series creates. Sadly, all that fantastic force is undermined by an ending that renders every player choice moot and betrays the core plot with odd choices. It takes a while to lose, but I was left with a bitter, unsatisfying taste after what's largely been one of the most delicious RPGs.

If you played the original then you know what you're getting into. The QOL improvements, especially in the first game are very appreciated. The Graphics are good and the music and sound is good as well. The combat was updated for the first game as well which made it a lot better IMO.

For those who have not played the original however, the game is a really fun, sci-fi drama adventure

For those who have not played the original however, the game is a really fun, sci-fi drama adventure with interesting characters and worlds to explore. The gameplay is a third-person shooter with light RPG elements. The second and third game are VERY light on the RPG elements, keep that in mind. If you're looking for a fun action game with a good story, characters and fun world to explore look no further than the Mass Effect trilogy.

However, to be fair, even though I love the First game and like the second, the third game is rather lackluster and the DLCs for 2 and 3 are both underwhelming on the length and depth side. Also, another gripe of mine is the 'morality' decisions in the game sometimes do not make any sense. If you can ignore these things and horrid ending of the 3rd game then you will have a genuinely good time.

Its a good remaster - with steady 60fps, worked over environment, sound, and dialogue. The gameplay, however, is very dated and I am sorry to say that playing this now only shows how shallow the gameplay at the time of original release actually was - this applies in particular to ME2 and ME3, as the first game is far deeper and still a genuine RPG experience. It started off okay but kept on getting better over time. I did all the side quests, most tbh were a chore to get through apart from the DLC one. Your best option is to skip those but I wanted to try it anyway.

I played with Wrex and Liara the entire way, was probably the best option as Wrex and the Krogan seemed like the most interesting and tragic race, and Wrex’s clash in Virmir was solid. Liara was solid too with her knowledge of the Protheans, which is useful in Ilos.

The lore and story behind Reapers vs Protheans were solid too. Nice twist with Citadel being a relay. Saren by the end was pretty compelling too, he saw himself as the hero, and he felt justified to help the reapers, so that Organics may survive, but by the end you realise he's been indoctrinated.

I played the game for 30 hours, it might have paced better at 20 hours. The graphics and animations don't age well at all, pretty bad for its time too tbh. Sometimes the animations and movements of characters in this game are soo bad that it's funny. Voice acting can get rough at times. But for other characters like Wrex and Saren, their voice acting is good. The game needs a lot more quality-of-life improvements:
    - You can't see what you did on a planet until you land.
    - After you complete a planet, it should tell you if you did so and if there are any missing objectives I could still do.
    - Icons on the map and inconsistent too. Sometimes an x means you did the objective while other times it's a point of interest.

But it's compensated with its compelling way of telling the story in main missions and giving you pivotal decisions to make. Also, its worldbuilding of the different races was spot on.

    Mass Effect 2 - 7/10
Mass Effect 1 to me was better. The only solid loyalty missions were Mordin’s and Grunt’s.

    Loyalty Mission Reviews
    Grunt - 9/10
I already found Krogans really interesting so seeing their homeworld tuchanka I knew was gonna be fun. Seeing Wrex, the shaman and others react to Grunts predicament created amazing dialogue exchanges. Krogans, especially Wrex and Grunt are Peak in Mass Effect!
    Mordin - 8/10
There was a pretty good debate between Shepherd and Mordin. Normally Shepherd is more passive but this time he felt like he had a strong stance and so did Mordin, leading to clashing ideals. Seeing the ramifications of the Genophage and seeing Mordin still try to rationalise it was compelling.
But then Mordins student was a direct foil to Mordin, and I loved it! He had way better counterpoints than Shephard. The exchange was very grey, where honestly it looked like the student was the good guy, even though the testing method was questionable.
    Garrus - 7/10
His was good cuz I saved Solidus. Not too sure if it would have been good otherwise, I exhausted all dialogue to the point it subverted expectations where Solidus was a good guy.
    Liara - 7/10
The Shadow Broker was anticlimactic. But the DLC improves when Shepherd vents his frustration to Liara on Normandy.
    Miranda - 7/10
Solid mission with sweet ending of savings Mirandas sis.
    Samara - 7/10
Gameplay was fun, at least it wasn't just a shooter or trailing mission.
    Kasumi - 6/10
Really nice and short mission. Didn't expect a stealth infiltration mission in ME. But I couldn't care less about Kasumi.
    Jacob - 6/10
Would have been better if we knew more concretely what his dad was thinking.
    Jack - 6/10
    Pretty predictable. Nothing interesting.
    Thane - 5/10
The kid and his issues towards his father were not developed enough. The tailing mission gameplay was boring and basic. Disappointing since Thane seemed pretty interesting. Especially his 1-to-1s, those are really damn good.
    Zaed - 5/10
I don't even know the guy lol. The revenge plot with Garrus was done better.
    Tali - 5/10
Boring characters and dialogue before boarding Aleria. Tali's dad being the culprit was very predictable.

I don't know why this one is highly regarded, not much of a suicide mission if everyone lives, plus it was just 3 short submissions and the final boss was dull. ME1 lore about Saren, Protheans and Reapers was more compelling than ME2’s collectors being Prothean. Plus all we really learned is that Harbinger is coming by the end. Nothing I did felt like it really mattered tbh.

    ME3 - 7/10
ME3 somehow is even more linear than ME2. The ending of the synthesis of organics and robots was goofy. But the other endings were not any better. At least they had the Genophage cure in this game. The sequences for that were top-tier. But then it was taken over by the Qurain storyline which was not even nearly as good.

    Trilogy
Not too sure why anyone would say this is a masterclass of storytelling. It does have high peaks but also has very low and persistent peaks too. Your best off watching Dr Who instead.

    Mass Effect.2, 3
    - Falta do multiplayer do ME3.

As EA finally added an option to choose VO and subs language separately, I'm changing my review to be relevant. Mass Effect was and still is a universally loved masterpiece, and seeing it refreshed, seeing the renewed interest of the community, both old and new is heartwarming. Despite all that, I'm here to rate Legendary Edition on its own.

LE is basically a quick and rather cheap way for EA and Bioware to attract interest to ME franchise as a whole, after Andromeda failure and before new Mass Effect game. While graphical and gameplay changes are welcome, there is obvious lack of technical polish. Bugs that are older than a lot of teenagers are still there for our despair, and there are also some new (nasty) ones.

I really hope it all will be fixed in the end, and what we get is a clean, polished and convenient Mass Effect trilogy for us to return to from time to time and reflect on our memories of playing it for the first time ever.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition offers the comprehensive experience that the whole trilogy rightfully deserves. Thanks to this, you can easily forgive it all sorts of small ailments associated with the age of individual parts and you drown dozens of unforgettable hours in the game without blinking an eye. The Mass Effect Trilogy is incredible. The overarching story and its characters are excellent, and each one was better than the last. I wasn’t sure if these games would hold up in the current environment, but they absolutely do. They’re still worth playing, I recommend them, and to anyone about to jump in — play at a slower pace. Do not rush through. Explore everything they have to offer and relish in their richness.
