    The first mafia was a great game, I was the one who finiszem unfamous race for my friends and again we got this race in this part without skip option. I hated it back then and I hate it still in this game, and if that decision was made to stay true to original I don’t understand why Tommy is wearing leather jacket that doesn’t fit to the time and break immersion.     As Mêcanicas do personagem, das armas e dirigindo carros e motos são bem travadas. Principalmente a movimentação e a mira são bem lentas.
    Os pedestres e os carros reagem muito bem quando voce está dirigindo. Por exemplo, quando você está em alta velocidade e/ou buzinando os carros abrem passagem.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’m kinda jumping between a 6 & a 7 for this game. On one hand, I was intrigued by the plot of this game from the start despite not really ever being into GTA style games, in short bursts yes but I’d be lying if I said I ever saw one of these games thru to the end before. But I’d also be lying if I said a full remake of the first Mafia still didn’t show its age in the gameplay department. The new visuals are very stunning & everything looks great in this game, characters, cars, the city, all great! But the shooting, melee combat, and ESPECIALLY the driving in this game feel like they haven’t updated it since it’s original release. Is it more realistic to the time period? Yes but that doesn’t mean it’s any more enjoyable. I don’t think I’ve actively despised driving in a video game more than this game, every time I had to drive during a mission, which is almost EVERY mission btw, I groaned out loud and had to redo objectives many times because of how horrible the driving mechanics are. It actively ruined the good time I was having almost every single chance it got, I almost gave up playing at a few points too. If I didn’t care about the main trio of Tommy, Sam & Paulie the way I did & wanted to see where their stories ended up, I wouldn’t have finished this game. Is it a little predictable? Yeah, but the ending left me feeling a little hurt, even if I expected all of what went down to.. go down. Good game, but I don’t think I’ll be returning to this franchise in the near future.… Expand

    I'm almost sorry for the 6. A classic was remastered here, but it didn't quite live up to the high expectations. The atmosphere is great and the synchronization is also very good. The cars are also a big plus. All are beautifully presented and animated.
    The reason why I still have to give a 6 is because of the gamplay. It doesn't feel good to be walking around, the shooters feel clunky    I'm almost sorry for the 6. Even driving is not fun, as you get around corners much too slowly. You have to brake at every turn, otherwise you will crash into the next best house.

    A lazy remake that only improves graphics and voice acting without bothering to update the mechanics at all. Maybe refer to Capcom with Re2 and Re4 Remakes when you try to make an actual remake.

    Horrible buggy mess with sluggish controls, bad physics and downgraded gameplay from the original. The only improvement is obviously graphics, everything else is inferior.

    I bought the remastered trilogy of hearing for years nothing but praise for the series, especially the plot and characters, and wanted to give it a go now it's remastered.
    However I found the game incredibly dull and shallow. The characters were 2 dimensional and the plot was daytime-tv level. The gameplay was pretty unexciting and run-of-the-mill.

    Mafia: Definitive Edition is very much a time capsule of how games were like in the early 2000's. Despite it's 'improved' graphics and writing, most of it's gameplay elements feel grating at best. Some of the voice acting is good, but most of the accents on display are cringe inducing at best, especially the main protagonist who sounds like a heavy smoker with a sore throat who is inMafia: Definitive Edition is very much a time capsule of how games were like in the early 2000's.     Gun combat feels positively archaic and floaty, with weapon reticules the size of beachballs that make landing a headshot either highly difficult or a skill within itself. Melee combat tries to emulate modern melee systems, but comes across as janky, relying on button mashing instead of precise timing.

    Even though there is a large 'open' world available, Mafia: DE's campaign spirits you from one mission to the next with no freedom to explore at your own leisure in between objectives. However, the truth is Mafia's city is devoid of any activities to partake in, feeling more like a movie set filled with extras and cardboard cut-out buildings.

    Story-wise, the game feels obtuse and cliche. Unfortunately I couldn't progress beyond the halfway point of the campaign due to game design issues (the infamous turret section with the armoured truck). By this point, I was tired with the game because of how limiting and arduous everything within it felt.

    For future reference, games that are remade for the modern era should have a balance of contemporary game systems that seamlessly align with recognisable elements from the original. This way the game feels both fresh and familiar whilst retaining the most important thing of all: Being fun.    … Expand

    I was excited when I started playing the game an saw the lovely new graphics, but by the time I got to my first gun battle and fist fight, I knew the remaster was a wasted opportunity.

    The shooting mechanics are just off to me, bad guys fall in a scripted animation and the shooting physics are very weak.

    + great storytelling
    + great graphics

    - Not much to do other than the single player story.
    - weak physics in the game
    - clipping and behind cover mechanics caused some deaths or game fail conditions
    - movement of the character is stiff during combat.
    - The frame rate is very bad, this should have easily reached 60fps without fail in 2020.

    Avg at best, recommend trying it for the story if you can grab it on sale.    … Expand

For now let me talk about, part 1, easily the best thing about the game, the writing, story and cutscenes.

    PART 1:
    The writing and acting for Mafia: Definitive Edition are easily the best main aspects of Story Mode, the game opened with a really well written moment, as Sam and Paulie (mob friends of Don Salieri) force Tommy (our main protagonist) to drive *them* back to Salieri's bar as Tommy is trying to shake off and lose Morello's men (Morello being Salieri's main competition) by using short-cuts he knows by being a taxi driver.
    I won't spoil any more of the game, although I really want to, because Story Mode has some amazing moments. Don't let me get side-tracked here though, I also need to tell you about this whole graphics in cut-scenes looking better than the actual game itself...

    PART 2 (the "open world"):
    Now, we must talk about the 'Free Ride' for this game, I swear I have collected all of the collectables in this game, yet it does not feel complete whatsoever! I play games like Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2, the open worlds for those games are absolutely stunning, beautiful, and just virtually wonderful to explore (and let's not forget to mention that Story Mode for both of those games are just better).
    'Free Ride' in Mafia: Definitive Edition is not an open world, it is extremely tedious, vehicles are an absolute pain to control, all I can give props to for the open world/free ride in this game is that it has some Easter Eggs that a lot of people really loved, overall the open world was just, no.

    THE FINAL PART:
    When I am in a car, I can literally see my hat poking through the roof, I know a lot of people would consider it a 'minor glitch', but in my book a minor glitch is the thing that ruins a substantial amount of the game. Whenever, I look back on Mafia; Definitive Edition, all I care to remember is Story Mode, nothing else, I had no fun driving vehicles, getting collectables, earning Free Roam trophies, I got exceptionally bored.

    I played the original. Graphical Upgrades are nice and overall satisfying. gameplay & mechanics not at all unfortunately. It’s ok but it definitely feels like it could have been much better. Do not recommend.

    so, creator of original game wasnt such happy about some changes (totally different point at the ending) i enjoyed graphics but that is only one plus, missing free movement in to the missions or in the missions, too much console arcadish, but still playable (what the **** was that ice cube at the end?)

    The game isnt so bad, the game has a decent quality about it, i like how the cars handle how they should for the 30's.

    But that being said the driving gets annoying when trying to escape from or chase somebody. The worst part for me though is the story actually isnt that great its pretty generic and very predictable, it feels a little dragged on.     Love this world you created and wanted to spend a lot more time in it, but after 2 weeks I've exhausted everything... Played every mission multiple times, found every collectable, gotten every trophy, did every freeride mission... there's nothing left to do.
    There is so much wasted potential here. An open world this magnificent should provide at least 60-75 hours of activity.

    The many cons of this game include the atrocious driving and shooting design and utilisation. These controls are clunky, unresponsive and cumbersome to navigate resulting in many frustrating deaths. The game is also very terribly optimised (even running on a PS5) where there are some sections you spend more time watching the game load rather than playing it. Lifeless, one dimensional characters and terrible AI are very prominent throughout the game. The plot is a generic run-of-the-mill from any mafia/gangster movie that features the predicable "start from nothing, work for a family, become a key figure, there's a rat that betrays the family..." yada yada yada that's very non-engaging however it does include an interesting sublot of loyalty. Voice acting is also awful but not in a so bad it's good, just quite the opposite.

    The infamous Race sequence is god awful and horribly hamfisted and implemented. The appalling driving controls are too unresponsive and frigid to even be considered a challenge as it takes way too many attempts and time to even finish the race let alone in the winning position and quickly wears out and traps the player in a monotonous loop of weariness. Lastly, the Free Ride mode is honestly a joke with little to no incentive to engage with it.

    The one good feature I will dignify is the ability to customise the way you want to play Mafia. You can skip unnecessary drives (easily my favourite), Normal or Simulation (a mode that attempts to imitate real driving) and Police response/aggressiveness. Unfortunately, this game is still, at it's core, a bad boring experience of drive and shoot and drive again.    … Expand

    the original game had charm, and they even removed some of the (to me) most memorable quotes from the game.
    including "you lucky bastard" & "you didn't kill frank!" In the 2020 version, not only did they not add something new to the freeride, but on the contrary cut out trains with trams from it for use. the    Hi Mafioso. Basically a remake in it's most basic primitive lackluster form.

    the voice actor with their nasal "italian" accent got annoying in the long run.

    but then kept some of the downsides of the original game where you would have the bar as a hub and get to select your loadout before going on a mission.. this happens for maybe a total of 5 missions... then the game decides for you the rest of story. Why not fix that in a remake.    … Expand

With hope the entertainment freemode has included a walk of the 2020 edition as I saw in the trailers advertising this and what I see?!! The whole city of the game is locked everywhere, not even allowed to the train station that was in the original version.Oh, my God!     The justification that the world is empty because the original was empty aswell is just total **** Sorry but a remake means that you change things for the better. It doesn’t mean that you literally copy every Aspekt of the original. There should have been clothing stores, side activists, train/tram for players in access, money etc. Free roam is empty as **** It’s so empty it makes you wonder why they even bothered.

    Not enough content in this game it’s so boring. The secret missions are pretty fun, shooting down the aliens and ufo is pretty trippy but apart from them 3 secret missions there’s nothing to do after the game. Even mafia 3 had more content than this.

    есть отражения заданий и объектов на капоте или луже.     Mafia definitive edition is one of the best remastered games I’ve played. The graphics we spectacular. The story was kept raw and strong and had some amazing gameplay. If your into Cinematic third person shooters and drivers with an impactful storyline this game is for you. Best remake I’ve ever seen in a video game over a decade old!

    Meio Páia, Meio Bunda, só Tem Gráficos, Direção dos Carros Horrível, Tiroteio Péssimo, Animações das Lutas Direto do PS2, Não sei se a Versão original é páia assim, se for é zoado.
    Aliás os Gráficos tem Pontos negativos que com certeza já falaram aqui, de Primeira Vista me impressionaram, e História bem Fraca, Nem Parece que é um Jogo de Mafia! Péssimo.

Still, it ruins the whole experience with the cheap gameplay, terrible driving model, repetitive missions (drive - kill some guys - return, repeat), and impressive but dead city.
    The gameplay feels very cheap. The character movement is annoying (it's like you are playing a clay soldier instead of a human), shooting is very 2009 - hide behind something, shoot some guys, go forward, repeat until you reach some point. Driving is not the experience you want to have in this game. I know the cars are from the 30s, but you are always riding a tank on the ice whenever car you are using. Always.
    The open city is dead. There's no reason to do anything there. You can't use the tram, buildings are locked, people are somehow retarded, and walk the scripted ways. Sure, you have collectibles, but looking after magazines in the dead city is nothing you would like to do anyway, trust me.
    Bugs, bugs, bugs. The game is buggy. The textures are loading in front of you. The graphic is really "shaky". And the worst thing is that everything is scripted to the point that the police car can stop in one place during the mission and disappear while the other will arrive.
    I can't understand why this game got so many good reviews from the magazines and gaming portals.

Even Mafia 2 was chapter-orientated, but at least you could roam in the city, buy clothes etc. The possibilities weren't much back then, but here they are non-existent, I don't consider this an open world game. You don't even get money. The excuse, that it weren't like that in the first game, is non valid, since this is what I would have expected from a remake. Lost Heaven is well made, so it's a shame, I will never take a closer look at it. And don't you even start with this exploring mode - If they failed to incorporate it in their main story mode, I will not drive around aimlessly for the sake of it. The close combat is an absolute joke, button smashing and waiting for your triangle cue, like seriously? That is 2005 kind of stuff. This game is in all technical regards a huge step down and feels more clunky than mafia 3, I seriously can not fathom, that this is supposed to be an 'advanced' version of mafia 3, this is Mafia 3's gameplay after you drove it to a wall and patched the worst damage up , and this bothers me extremely, since this was Hanger 13's last chance to turn things around, after they've ruined Mafia 3 and had the audacity to release a total lackluster remaster of part 2. Maybe I'm a little hard on it, because I was pissed of about Mafia 3 so much and because I hoped that Hangar 13 would finally get their **** together and knock it out of the park. But this really isn't it. The mission design is decades old, boring, frustrating, I'm actually bored senseless playing this game. I guess I will eventually finish it, but this was beyond a doubt the final nail in the coffin for Hanger 13.

Dying quickly is commonplace and then you're rewarded with a nice long wait screen to get back to the action (inefficiency).

    The story is good. Graphics are decent for when it was made. Sound and voice are decent. Game is a bit on rails and the missions are somewhat repetitive feeling. But it's the programming that really ruins the playability of the game and makes this a low score for me. It's as if nobody play-tested this thing. It's frustrating and annoying.

    If the game is $4.99 USD or less, it's probably a good value. But anything above that is a waste of money unless you enjoy furiously unfair game play.    … Expand

    1.Enormous input lag and large deadzone of the analog stick. The lag between the controller and the character on screen is truly appalling for a console game in 2020, making it impossible to aim. You would think its because of vertical sync that usually is the issue, but the game has awful screen-tearing as well so what causes this lag is beyond me. Fix your engine, Hangar 13

    2. Framedrops everywhere when doing simple tasks like: aiming a long distance rifle, or scoping in, enabling mirror view in the car (try spamming it and the fps of the game tanks).

    3. Awful hit detection. Most of the time enemies just dont get hit because there is an invisible piece of the wall on above or on the side their cover.

    4. The classic difficulty is not “classic”. Its unreasonably hard and artificial. Completed the game on Classic difficulty and its not challenging, just rage-inducing and rather cheap. More damage on you or your vehicles doesnt make it “hard”, Hangar 13, it makes it a poorly optimized difficulty. This difficulty in tandem with large deadzone and input lag softlocked me For 2 hours inside a farm escape mission, in a constant loop of the turret destroying my turret in a matter of 10 seconds, and me not being able to destroy the turret 3 times that fast. On PC without vertical sync and no input lag it might be an easy mission to complete, but on PS4 Its impossible, replaying the whole chapter for Tommy to have more health didn’t help, it just locks you in this hell of 20 second loading screens, and instant demolishion of your truck by that turret (or tommy’s death). Knowing the awful performance on this game i I had to end up using Speedrunner strats of spamming the pause button (while shooting the turret) to slow down the game framerate and not miss a single shot on it. It worked. Its just crazy that i had to end up cheating and breaking the game in order to complete this mess of a mission.

    5. Sandbox is gone. The game is a dumbed down corridor-esque mission-by-mission rollercoaster. The variety of ways you could complete the mission is no more. The sandbox type of walkthrough is not possible and removed in most missions. The game is holding your hand through large amount of forced cutscenes, checkpoints and corridors.
    The enemies will not appear until you hit a trigger or move further. Some missions are so dumbed down and programmed in such an outdated and broken fashion that you can literally run past all enemies and hit a cutscene trigger, and you essentially completed the mission, missing a 40 minute mindless shootout. Sometimes there is no way to quit the vehicle during mission. Sometimes you can’t attack or cant run (you can imagine Hangar 13 saying: “Here’s the deal, player, we are forcing you to look at our interrior details, so we removed run feature inside buildings”). There is no way to complete the “Visiting Rich” completely stealth, or without casualties like in original. You also cant enter side door, or backdoor of the building like the original. You also can’t ask salvatore to lockpick doors, instead you play a stupid hide-and seek scripted sequence which makes it look silly. You are also forced to take out the entire army of bad guys in the garden-maze and can only enter the building using the front door. The maid is also not hostile and cant alarm guards, so essentially you can run around the mansion like Usain Bolt, making this mission pale and dumb in comparison to the original atmospheric hitman-like experience.

    6. The rewritten score pales in comparison and hardly touches any strings of the players soul (mine especially.) If it does, its because they mixed-in some notes from the original score, the other “battle” or “sad themes are generic and dull. The musical pieces feel out of place sometimes, and not as epic or emotional. Why not just remix the original 2002 soundtrack is beyond me (you had one job)

    7. Removed content/features/details. This includes: no way to ride trolly or subway. Essentially no “Garage”. Just “select your car” type of thing. You can’t park your cars in backyard of Salieri’s bar and expect them to stay there. Less cars in game. Lucas Bertone missions are removed, you hardly interact with Ralphie (he doesnt teach you how to steal each car, making the car progression essentially non-existent). Weapon names are dumbed down (no Colt, no Smith and Vessons, just PISTOL, SHOTGUN etc.). When shooting in the car, Tommy shoots Through the freaking windshield instead of sticking his hand through the window like in the original.

    Hell was going this story where I couldn't go somewhere in the city to walk and see. The plot is surprisingly fast and circumcised from the original, which upset me. Included a walk mode that would run around the city and ride on the tram and aboveground subway ... Hell would have taken this game that I'm not allowed into this transport for, well, what the hell!?

    Remember how Morello's brother survives multiple assassination attempts out of sheer luck?
    That's why his missions are called "Lucky B***ard". Well, the remake has reduced the
    number of assassination attempts (I think the one with the train doesn't happen at all) AND
    the events have been changed. In the original, Paulie tries to shoot Morello in front of a diner
    and his gun jams, but in this version, Tommy PREVENTS Paulie from shooting Morello
    because he's holding a woman hostage. This completely messes with the concept of him
    being lucky.
    They've also changed the circumstances behind the plot twist with (a major mistake, in my
    opinion), they've removed Yellow Pete, they've changed how the Death of Art begins,
    removed even from freeride trains with trams for player activity with them etc...
    If you're like me, and you're kind of a purist when it comes to the story and general

    Somewhere they did it well, but many missions were changed completely especially some of my favourites like "just for relaxation" and "lucky bastard" and I don't understand what was the reason to change Tom's character, he looks like a badass gangster now which is opposite to what he used to be in the original, just a good man who happened to be in the wrong place.

    Having passed the game completely, I see that this is a false attempt to copy the original and give less than in that distant 2002 original.
    Chapter 15 (You lucky bastard) is botched entirely. Every single story change in that chapter is for the worse.

    Such an awful game. The original was a classic and this remake does nothing but tarnish that reputation. Sure the graphics are decent but all of what made the game special is gone. Avoid this at all costs if you're a fan of the first Mafia. If you thought 3 was good you may like this

    I never played the original so I didn't go into the game with any expectations. Most of the game is comprised of driving around or listening to cutscenes. The game was at its height during some of the driving moments when you could take in the atmosphere of the city. The main character Tommy is almost laughably one dimensional. Потому что вместо добавления миссий, разнообразия геймплея, рукo|||oпы из Ангара решили просто вырезать целые куски сюжета, перемолоть и свалить его остатки в кучу.
    Сложные миссии превратились просто в добанутые (гонки, склад с Морелло).

    Томми теперь не обычный таксист, который колеблется в своих решениях, а он простой гопарь, который хочет крови и легких денег. Как в принципе Поли и Сэм, дела которых оставались в тени, а сейчас их показали мерзкими тварями, которые по приказу Дона отнимут последние деньги у любого человека или же отнимут его жизнь.
    Возможно подобный подход неплох, он лишает романтического образа, той самой Мафии 2002, показывая истинное лицо этой преступной ячейки.
    Но в плане сюжета это ставит крест на сочувствии любому из героев.

    Так забавляют петушки, которые разводили своё ко-ко-ко, говоря, что Мафия 3 это помойка, а сейчас эти же люди кукарекают какой шедевр выдали Ангар 13. Какие же грёбанные лицемеры.

    Короче, не буду дальше бомбить, касаемо игры - это дно! Не покупайте это даже на распродажах. Цена этому "шедевру" 2 бакса.

    P.S. кстати, если в оригинале было название Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven и город по суди был одним из главных персонажей. Именно по этому все миссии были прописаны так, что ты хорошо помнил каждый район. То здесь город вообще никакой. Разрабам было лень делать метро и трамваи, ничем из этого вы не можете воспользоваться. На заправке нет людей. А от Луки Бертоне, вы получите 5 фоток с автомобилями и пожеланием самим их найти. Во всём чувствуется экономия и мерзкая меркантильность.    … Expand

    The remake has some good moments, but as original Mafia fan I couldn't say this game is for me. It's packed up with not necessary arcade content, the characteristics of the key characters are changed and they changed a original plot in some points. The game lost it's soul

    I played the game 15% and watched the game movie 85%, then the empty world without the interactions of Freeride.
    This is another game from H13 that worse, worse, every time it gets worse...

    I started up this one on classic difficulty, played through until the race section which was notoriously hated in the classic game... and its actually worse.
    I see nothing but complaints online about this, but no sign of the developer addressing it (It came a year ago). Thankfully I didn't buy the entire trilogy, this one    I loved the Mafia trilogy when I played them as they came out.
    I started up this one on classic difficulty, played through until the race section which was notoriously hated in the classic game... and its actually worse.
    I see nothing but complaints online about this, but no sign of the developer addressing it (It came a year ago).

    It is almost 1 year since the last update yet the game still has optimisation issues and room for improvement as well there are missing missions from the original, crashes and bugs are persistent, no tram rides etc.

    I hate car race games in general. The game forces you to do a stupid race in the story mode as the main mission! And there is no SKIP!
    I cannot believe that the developers ignored this obvious point!
    So I deleted the game. Good that I got it as the monthly free game in PS plus!

    After the absolute trash mafia 3 was, someone thought it’d be a good idea to give hangar 13 another chance to develop more absolute rubbish, and boy oh boy they didn’t disappoint. This is just a terrible remaster with horrible clunky controls, lighting is horrendous again. These guys are c grade devs at best.

In some cutscenes the characters seem totally out of sync with the voices. The animations are awful very 2002 looking it looks as if they changed only the textures and models. The shooting and cover mechanics are again very outdated, every gunfight is clunky, the enemy AI is awful and I also experienced critical bugs more than 1 month after release. I tried to reload a checkpoint in mission 4 and I got pushed back 2 checkpoints, and the police was giving me a fine. After that I couldn't move. I had to delete save files manually in order to be able to continue. Some other time in the same mission I had to enter a motel to save a guy. As soon as I was out of stealth I started taking damage over time out of nowhere and I just died. The infamous banana race is still there and it is as bad as it ever was. I did it in the original game but I don't feel like spending one afternoon to keep trying until I get lucky. I don't know why they had to make it just as frustrating again (at least now you have to race only 3 laps and from what I remember in the original game you had to race 6 laps). If Mafia was your favourite game and you can overlook all the bugs and clunky stuff you can buy it but you just make sure you don't expect anything better than the original game (excepting the graphics).… Expand

    Remake is good, but that driving model and cheating AI in race are very frustrating. It's ruined my game experience. I heard it will be option to skip this race after few unsuccessful attempts but i didn't find it... Give me patch or my money...

    As any game in the current industry and in 100% cases for remakes, this is a squished simplified trash , cause there was no people who worked on this to make game great. I bet nobody in the studio played the original game. Mario is harder and more interesting game than this. Guess why , cause people who made it ,cared about it, This remake era we are currently in kills the industry.

The main character is incapable of running properly, can't walk in a straight line and there's a delay in every movement you make. just feels horrible. gun fights are tedious and numerous times i've been shot by enemy AI that have appeared through solid walls.
