    It's a decent remake. Good job Hangar 13! Hoping this will have free next-gen enhanced upgrade. And let's hope they make Mafia 2 remake now.

    Am I the only how’s already making a walkthrough for the third time in row? This is a masterpiece! The best game ever about automobiles! The driving in story was not enough for me, the devs could keep the additional Luca Bertone car missions and some more from A to B rides.

    I absolutely loved this game. The story is so gripping and enjoyable from start to finish I genuinely felt for the characters around me and I'm not going to lie I definitely miss them already now that I've completed the game. Hanger 13 please make a Mafia 4 but please spend all the time needed to make it amazing

    Unfortunately just like mafia 2, the mafia remake is underrated again, with it's amazing story, very good graphics and by doing a great job at recreating lost heaven, mafia definitive edition is one of the best games released in 2020 and deserves a much higher score I really enjoyed it but it's a pity that hangar 13 lost a great opportunity to make the game more open world and add moreUnfortunately just like mafia 2, the mafia remake is underrated again, with it's amazing story, very good graphics and by doing a great job at recreating lost heaven, mafia definitive edition is one of the best games released in 2020 and deserves a much higher score I really enjoyed it but it's a pity that hangar 13 lost a great opportunity to make the game more open world and add more adventures and activities unlike some previous games, you can't buy cloths, do side missions, buy guns and or do mini games.

    Amazing simply Amazing what a beautiful and heartbreaking experience truly one of the best mafia stories ever told. The game has a few bugs and glitchs, needs more polish hopefully everything will get patched soon. Thank you to the original team who made mafia and thank you hanger 13 for remaking mafia

    Mafia DE is a great example how a remake should look like.
    The graphical design is astonishing, cutscenes were redone perfectly, gameplay is smooth and the game got rid of tedious tasks (e.g. the train ride with Paulie, drive back to the bar). I absolutely loved the classic difficulty, the race took a lot out of me. It has some bugs though. I hope they're going to be fixed soon.

    1. Graphics - Amazing. I could not believe that this runs on my PS4. It looks a lot closer to a next-gen game than a current one. Apart of some screen tearing and framerate drops at times the graphics are flawless.

    2. Sound and cutscenes - Absolutely astonishing. From music to radios, from voice acting to motion capturing - absolutely beautiful!

    3. Gameplay - Faithful to the original. I played on Classic mode. The race was brutally difficult and some firefights were a big challenge. For Mafia 4 you just have to figure out the balance between open world and story like this. Shooting and some movement animations could be made better. Driving is perfect on simulation mode.

    Overall this game is a solid 8 out of 10. However, everybody seems to forget that it is not a full price game and at 40$ it is most defiantly a 9 out of 10. I missed some of the old writing in the ending though! Hope this game sells well and you guys make Mafia 4 - more like this than Mafia 3.    … Expand

    Amazing remake! Having lots of fun with this game so far. This game is much better than Mafia 3 much respect to Hangar 13 for stepping up on there new mafia game from taking there time on finishing this game. The visuals and the gameplay is amazing especially on PS4 pro. If you loved the original mafia your definitely gonna like this a lot better. Highly recommended game to play!

    Really nice remake, shows respect to the original source. The story is amazing as expected, the gameplay is fun and the driving is reaaaaally good. There are a few bugs but none of them are major problems.

    on va dire qu'il est juste un cran en dessous a cause de ses quelques bugs et ses anumations plus rigidez que re2 remake.

    This is my first time playing this series and im so happy I started with this game. Amazing, on the edge of your seat action and story. The graphics are good and the cars are beautiful!.. Only issue was clunky gun play and some glitches but nothing to serious and the over use of the same face for the NPC'S.

I was in love for the first Mafia, because it was incredible indie game that looks and feels like Grand Theft Auto. Mafia was one of my favs because I was from East Europe. Everyone in my class play this game, it was phenomenal at 2002. I like how this game was re-created. Cutscenes looks great.     The original Mafia is one of the first games I've ever played when my parents bought the first PC for our household. I remember playing this game and finishing it countless times and I never thought I would play a remastered version of it. It was a nostalgia trip to me. Loved every second of it!! Only thing they could have done better is if they made it more engaging in free play.     An awesome experience. Don´t look for an open world game or an RPG, this game is mostly linear and short, but the story is amazing and has some of the best characters I´ve seen in a game. It has a few bugs here and ther but nothing to worry too much about. The gunplay it´s ok and the missions are fun altough sometimes a bit uninspired, but overall it was an outstanding game.

I never played the original but now I know I missed out big time! The story had me hooked from the beginning watching a cab driver make his way up the ranks to his downfall and watching as his “Family” falls apart. The only problem I had with this game overall was the driving and gun play, it feels like they took both from Mafia 3 which I wasn’t a big fan of, but I did start to grow on it towards the end. If you are looking for a good crime tale definitely give this one a chance!… Expand

    Mafia Definitive Edition is not just a change of graphics, it is a change of the whole game, some features are borrowed from Mafia 3, some characters are changed, but mafia remains mafia. Of course, some flaws flowed into the Definitive Edition, but they are so invisible that they do not affect the gameplay in any way.
    P.S. The plot was not touched

    As a fan of the mafia trilogy this remake is a breath of fresh air after the **** show that was mafia three. The game is tightly paced makes you definitely feel like you want more from the world. Ties into mafia two absolutely beautifully as the ending roles making you feel absolutely conflicted about the protagonists of the second game. If you have the money I would recommend getting the trilogy and playing Mafia one and two!!!… Expand

I am happy to say that they succeeded, by making subtle changes to the story, thus making it even better in my opinion, and by making the gameplay more modern.     If you are hesitant about your purchase (why else would anyone read metacritic user reviews, aside from being dreadfully bored or masochistic), and you like good stories, buy the game. You won't regret it.    … Expand

    This is truly a remaster. The Performance on PS4/Pro is really bad, the gameplay often lags, but almost great visuals. The open world city is really nice crafted and all scenes has a lot of details. Hopefully we got a PS5 patch for this remaster.

    Впервые прошёл мафию по советам друзей , действительно великая история но геймплей иногда слишком плох , анимации ужасны но сюжет , атмосфера и эмоции того стоят , рекомендую

    Сел, поставил классическую сложность, чтобы как 16 лет назад. Дошел до миссий с гоночным болидом - проклял все, пока выключил. Но ремейк от оригинала однозначно отличается в лучшую сторону.     Хорошая игра. Графика сделана хорошо. Лучше ремастера 2ой части. Сюжет хорош. Хочется быстрей пройти по сюжету, чтобы узнать, что в конце игры.

    Graphics is great! Aside from the gameplay bugs , I enjoyed the story and i liked the characters. I played the original too and I actually liked the voice acting in this one better. Worth the $40!!!!

    As a huge fan of the original I must say that Mafia: Definitive Edition is a great remake that sometimes is even better than the original. The charm, the story and the atmosphere are all carefully recreated. The game is definitely worth buying for those who didn’t play the original or wants to refresh their experience.

    Никакой ремейк не сможет превзойти оригинал, но то, что сделала студия Hangar 13 заслуживает уважения. Не смотря на много технических трудностей, ремейк смог полностью передать эпоху тех времён. Им удалось почти полностью показать нам город, хоть и в некоторых моментах он был изменён.     A solid remake. Hangar 13 has finally redeemed themselves after the failure of Mafia 3. This game is pretty much good enough for old and new people to get into the franchise. Everything ranging from shooting and driving is pretty fun and challenging. Definitely recommend checking it out.

But this version of mafia 1 brings a new dimension to the game series, I feel like hangar 13 learn from their mistake in mafia 3 (even if the mafia 3 is still a decent game). The game is gorgeous, the city of Lost Heaven is perfect, switchingA great game, the remake of mafia 1 is definitely one to remember. I remember playing mafia 1 back in the days, at that time the game was a gem. But this version of mafia 1 brings a new dimension to the game series, I feel like hangar 13 learn from their mistake in mafia 3 (even if the mafia 3 is still a decent game). The game is gorgeous, the city of Lost Heaven is perfect, switching between the countryside and downtown. The storytelling is loyal to the original mafia 1 but with more depth and more cinematic features.

    The game manages to bring back the great atmosphere and superb story of the original, while adding upon it with better gameplay and graphics. And although there are some clipping errors here and there and the graphics and characters can look stiff from time to time it's still a great experience!

Good graphics, good minor changes to the original story without really changing anything, and great value for money! Seriously, I bought 3 games for 50 euro.     l think Mafia Definitive Edition is really good, but it just needs daily updates on the free ride. It would be cooler if we can customize the cars a little more, and maybe more weapons.

    A good game, with an interesting story, most of all I liked that the story goes continuously, Chapter by Chapter, no additional tasks(many games I threw because of the fact that I constantly did additional tasks, although maybe this is just my problem).

    Loved the game. It has a great story. It's not an open world game as we know them today as it's realesed quiet a while back, so I think the amount of content is ok (it's unfair to compare it with e.g. an Ubisoft open world). It's a game with a big focus on the story and that story is damn good!

    I love playing this game on Classic difficulty. It reminds me these good old days. I wish every Remaster will be made so good as this one.

    It is the Witcher Trilogy.

    Fantastic game. One of the best I have ever played. Amazing ambience allows you to feel the story. The plot remained, of course, unchanged and still arouses extraordinary emotions with the next actions of the antagonists. The difficulty of the levels is still high but more adapted to new players. In my opinion best remake in this year and one of the best in history of games

    A thing to point out is that Mafia is NOT a sandbox, it's a story driven third person shooter with driving sections inside a carefully crafted 1930's big city. You can drive inside missions but the city
    is not an open sandbox city, instead you can access it via free roam on the menu to collect the very interesting real pulp magazine while enjoying the radio stations. I would recommend to limit the HUD to the minimum via settings to have a more "realistic" feeling without the icons on the screen.
    The difficulty level by default is quite easy and the classic level it's much more enjoyable, although the infamous race will make you sweat and swear a lot.
    If you like this rare noir/mob games (L.A Noir, the Saboteur, Blacksad, etc), mafia definitive it's a must play.    … Expand

    A remarkable upgrade to an already classic game. A throw back to when games had no filler and were a thrill ride from start to finish. A gripping story that still holds up today. Well worth playing for fans of old or someone looking to try something new. The gameplay isn’t groundbreaking but the story is compelling enough to carry this game on its own.

    An epic game. Period. The game has characters that you can actually be interested in, a beautiful and lived-in open world, and decent gameplay. The only complaints I have are having more things to do in the free roam mode and I wished the game was a bit longer.

    This is definitely a good example of a remake done right. Everything has been improved compared to the older version of the game. I had a good time playing this game. The only draw back for me goes towards the story jumps, where I don’t think the director did a good job at explaining what happened during in between these jumps throughout the game so the player is trying to relearn what’s going on, on the fly.    … Expand

    Great story and characters but gameplay (especially shooting) needed work. I love the graphics and the world that was built but the shooting especially on harder difficulties kind of ruins the experience.

The linearity of the game actually brings out the best in it because i was afraid of just doing fetch quests and meaningless side missions, so to have a direct approach and storyline felt great to follow. Combat with various guns was alright, the enemies really like to shoot you JUST when you get into cover, so when you are low on health this can be highly annoying. But nothing too offensive about the game, i seriously enjoyed this game alot.    … Expand

Não só na parte dos gráficos e sim a mudança de direção em certas partes, como a câmera do jogo que melhorou bastante em comparação ao primeiro jogo e certas cenas do jogo que deixaram os momentos mais épicos ou surpreendentes, as expressões faciais são maravilhosas, pois você consegue ver a tristeza, raiva, felicidades dos personagens, um bom exemplo disso e no final do jogo, onde Tommy no jogo original ficou surpreso com a chegada dos capangas com uma arma, no remake, o Tommy pelo seu rosto, já sabia que isso iria acontecer algum dia e aceitou.
    Meu únicos problemas com esse jogo são os controles e alguns bugs de textura, modelos, etc. O controle dos carros e o controle de mira não são muito satisfatórios, como por exemplo GTA V que tem controles muito gostosinhos de se jogar, o dos carros eu consigo até passar um pano pois o jogo se passava na época da depressão economica dos Estados Unidos e os veículos daquela época não eram tão simples de se dirigir, mas mesmo assim é difícil de dirigir pela primeira vez, principalmente quando você chegar na missão da corrida (eu tiver que fazer mais de 10 resets). Não é uma coisa que estraga, é mais uma coisa que você se acostumar com o passar da gameplay. Em questão dos bugs, os bugs que mais apareceram na minha gameplay, são mais bugs dos modelos e texturas, como por exemplo: o mapa do jogo parecer um jogo de Playstation 2 do nada (problema de renderização do mapa) personagens ficando invisíveis, personagens olhando para a parede, etc. Mas foram poucos bugs que me apareceram durante minha gameplay.
    A história é a mesma do jogo original, só com algumas diferenças, excluindo certas coisas que tinha que fazer nas missões originais do Game, e adicionando coisas novas, como por exemplo que tenho que elogiar, partes do jogo com um sistema de stealth, como por exemplo a parte que a gente vai no aeroporto pela primeira vez, no jogo original era um tiroteio, no remake você pode completar o capítulo sem ser detectado.
    É um jogo muito bom mas recomendo comprar principalmente numa promoção ou pagando uma assinatura de streaming (Playstation Plus Extra ou Deluxe, Xbox Gamepass, etc).    … Expand

    Haven't played the original, but I have played through roughly 50% of the game and I am having fun. Graphics looks good, the story and presentation of it actually really good. Gameplay however feels a little clunky at times both while driving and shooting. But overall a good game.

Now I know *Rahjee, Mafia originally came out in 2001, so of course it's going to be better in almost anyway* Yeah but there was a Remake from earlier this year that didn't to well and it was originally made in the 90's. So yeah not everything improves apart it's predecessor. In Mafia Definitive Edition you play as Tommy Angelo who starts off as just a Cabbie who rises through the Italian Mafia under Salieri becoming one of the most respected and feared gangsters in Lost Haven through the years of prohibition and the great depression facing off against the Morello crime Family. But when things goes south he turns to the Authorities to help him out of life or death situation to put the Don of his crew behind bars. There's really nothing to hate about the storyline. It's a mid paced, action packed adventure, that keeps you wanting more. From the presentation until the end it makes you feel nostalgic and engaged. The characters Salieri, Morello, Sam, Paulie, Frank and Sarah feel a lot more life like due to the voice acting, facial motion capture and remade visuals. The main character Tommy is more than just some mob character. Sure he's loyal to the family and he's a bad ass. But he's caring, respectful and is willing to do anything to protect his loved ones even if means putting himself in some serious **** **** As for missions I'm glad to see as far as I know they didn't cut anything (To my knowledge and added a few quite addition to each mission. Unlike what we seen from the massive disappointment from Mafia III. The Missions here have more variation. Every mission From Racing to going to a hotel to end someone with a hit or their head to sniping a Politian from an abandon prison there's always something different. The over all world Lost Haven is beautiful and feels refreshing to drive around. Although the world and free roaming doesn't feel completely dynamic, it's nice to see that citizens do simple things like keep up with current events. However it feels pretty dead at times. Another thing I wish they did would be to implement a few new features while free roaming. You have this beautifully crafted open world but there's not much to do but find cars and posters in free drive. Like seriously, they should make free roaming like Mafia 2. I understand that the original game didn't have this, but come on it's 2020. Add stores, side missions, activities, past times. I know this ain't GTA but damn make 2k Games make your open world worth exploring so people want to come back. The gameplay style and in game mechanics kind of plays like Mafia III. There are few differences between Tommy and Lincoln. Instead of moving, shooting and fighting like a Military Veteran that Lincoln is. Tommy is more of a street brawler. Although the shooting is sort of on point (although better than the original I felt that could've scrapped the gunplay they used Mafia III). The hand to hand combat system feels pretty average and although the button sequence can be used to pull of a lethal finishing move or dodge it sometimes feels pretty wonky. For driving you're giving two options Normal and simulation. Normal gives you an easier feeling of the cars. Although it's not too real they're still older cars so they can be pretty heavy and getting away can be challenging . If you're not a good at driving in games go for normal, because simulation mode might not be for you. Cars are heavier, crashes hit harder and turning is a lot more tight. And if your skills aren't up there and you choose it during the race well let's just say you're not going have a good time. The enemy AI is kind of **** To try to get you out of cover all they try to do is flank you then move towards and in chases they sometimes spawn out no where making it nightmare to get way. Mafia Definitive Edition came is an good remake and it's a must have. So I'm rating it an 8/10. My main problems were It's generic combat system, dated AI and lack of content. I am not elaborating on what the story contains, because I don’t want to spoil anything nor say what others have already summarized, but it is basically at the level of the best mafia movies. Fans of movies like The Godfather or Donnie Brasco to quote a couple will be delighted!

    This game doesn’t function like Mafia III. That has its advantages, but also its flaws. It works with separate chapters, 20 in total, each being a mission. This means that the game is not totally free-roam. The game lays on an open map, but you are not going to drive home/to your boss after every mission. You won’t either face any secondary missions or side-content to do between each main mission. Each time after a mission finishes, you get a cutscene followed by a loading, and then the next chapter starts. Working that way, the story builds magnificently up and remains very intense. Each chapter makes you play an important event of Tommy’s mob life, starting from the very beginning, and you never have time to get bored. This is maybe why some would say that this game is short. And indeed, it is. I would be lying if I said it takes more than 10-12 hours to finish. I would also be lying if I said I would not like the game to be longer. But at the same time, it is not necessarily a bad thing since I wasn’t bored for one minute.

    That being said, I have to admit that at least some side-content would have been warmly welcomed. At one condition though, and that is that I don’t want side-content the way Mafia III does it. For those who don’t know what I mean, I mean a map divided into multiple zones where each zone includes 5 to 10 camps to clean out. Always the same all over again for tenths of hours with few to zero story elements attached. That mistake hasn’t been repeated in Mafia’s remake, and I prefer it this way.

    If one day, however, a Mafia game with INTERESTING and varied side-content releases, it might be even better than the latter two if it manages to add value to the story without unnecessarily/annoyingly slowing it down. That would basically mean adopting a GTA IV style, which to me is one of the best games of all time. That’s it for the structure of the game.

    Technically speaking, this remake is impressive but not perfect. The game is a pleasure for the eyes. The city of 1930s Lost Heaven is well-designed, and light and reflections are staggering, especially considering the fact I played the game on a 2013 PS4. Same applies for the design of the cars. The game is equal to Mafia III for this. Cars, city, radio stations. Everything is made to give the player an as immersive experience as possible, thanks to both the atmosphere of the environment, and the high detail of its quality (visual, sound, animations, car handling, etc). Unfortunately, achieving masterpieces on old hardware came at the cost of a lot of graphical bugs, freezes and framerate drops. More than in Mafia III.

    For what comes to the gameplay, it is simple, but works well. It basically consists of shooting, driving, fighting and stealth gameplay. Animations and fluidity of movements of Tommy are good, despite being inferior to what RDR2 can do. There are not many different guns, but overall it is sufficient for what the game has to offer (gameplay’s depth thus matches the game’s length). Sometimes, I felt annoyed by having to gun down 50 men on my own, but apart from that I didn’t complain of what the game has to offer. The cutscenes are brilliant and for those who, like me, like such games with long cutscenes if they are well-orchestrated, it is « tant mieux » because it helps lighten the repetition I was mentioning.

    I’m concluding this review on a positive note because because it’s what the game deserves. Superb story, very good setting, great technique and simple yet effective gameplay are what make this game extremely worth it for its price tag (40€ launch, easily findable for 20-30€ a few weeks after).    … Expand

From the middle to the end it's easy to die or fail a mission a couple or 3 times in normal mode. I ended up changing to easy in the last chapters. Maybe if you play in easy mode can take 10 hours.     The off centre camera angle with no way of changing it is annoying. The shooting mechanics are annoying. The fact its not an open free world just mission after mission is annoying but apart from those few things I found myself enjoying this game. Nostalgia bug satisfied.

I think it's silly when people complain that the game has empty open world since this is a remake of a game that was exactly like this. Voice acting is solid as well, and even the driving feels okay (you can skip the drives though, after a time it indeed becomes boring). I didn't finish the story yet (75% through in aI never played the original, but figured what the hell, I'll pass the quarantine time with this. And it looks pretty good!     I was lucky enough to play the original Mafia on release day, and it served well during my PC gaming days, as a decent benchmark for hardware upgrades - from the Voodoo 2000 PCI I originally played it on, through to a Geforce 4 4400 I upgraded to some years after its release. I must have replayed Mafia dozens of times because of the hardware improvements, and it always looked great - even better on a ViewSonic CRT I upgraded to,

    I digress.

    This updated release pays a very close homage to the original, and though it doesn't have the exact feel of the old game (the radio music is sorely missed) - it does a near perfect job of bringing the old legend back into the current time. Конечно о прям жизненной реальности речи не идет (протагонисту в конце дали, по моему, всего лет восемь, при том, что он собственноручно пристрелил полторы тысячи человек, включая человек 100 копов!), но тем не менее.
    И так, советую. Советую всем. Прохождение тем кто играл в оригинал подарит кучу ностальгии, ну и сравнить с чем будет. Кто же не проходил раньше, как я, советую. Получите отличную историю за разумные деньги.    … Expand

    I must say, I played original game and this feels better.

    Very good remake, not only in terms of graphics and gameplay but also subtle changes in dialogs, cinematics, great voice acting and motion capture. Unfortunately quite short, finished in 12 hours at 'Hard' difficult. Maybe they could try something more open word-ish. And seriously, they should remove race mission.     Just about everything about this game is very good including the story, graphics, voice acting and wide plot diversity from chapter to chaper. I do have two complaints. Some of the chapters are extremely tough to slug through because of the lack of checkpoints. You can go a long way fighting through layer after layer of police or gangsters only to have to start all over again should you get killed. Escaping from the prison and hotel are two examples. I found myself thinking, "I'm never going to get out of here," afte biting the dust for the fifteenth time. And I'm too embarassed to tell you how long it took me to shoot down that plane. Next, for a gangster game, there's an obvious absence of female characters. Tommy Angelo has one, but none of the other guys have girlfriends. No wonder they're so lonely. There's a compelling sequence where Tommy has to find a prostitute named Michelle in the hotel. It's dramatic and Michelle is plenty hot, but that's it. Twenty chapters and there's nobody home in the female department. Still, I found a lot to like about the game, especially the main character.… Expand

    It would be a ten for me if they had included some of the original radio tracks. The radio felt pretty dull while driving around in game, so ruined the exploration aspect of the game. Great radio tracks were the best part of the original and Mafia 2. That said, the story is awesome and the campaign is just great.     There are beautiful city, interesting dialogues and bright heroes. But I don't like lot of interface elements and strange shoot system

    Mafia: Definitive Edition manages to place a great gangster adventure among the great titles of its genre by the end of this generation of consoles due to the excellent renovation of its graphic and sound section.
