    The gameplay is somewhat clunky at times.
    Had a few bugs.
    But nonetheless the story is amazing, absolute improvement of the classic.
    Overall a great experience.
    GIVE IT A TRY, YOU WONT REGRET IT

    The story, characters, and atmosphere make this game. Don't play if you play games strictly for gameplay. The shooting just felt off, and there were some sections like the one with the trucks where there are random difficulty spikes. Some of them like the race were fun, but others were very frustrating.     This is a very good remake to retell the story of the original game. the graphic is good. However, I am kind of disappointed that they did not make this game a open world game as it wasted the beautiful city of lost heaven they rebuilt.

    felt great to come back again in the world of Mafia! As soon as the intro started with the fly through the city memories came back! the remake is great, graphics are great, the story is more than awesome! in 2002 when we were in school we were playing it already and said how cool it is, still today we are saying how cool it is! why not 10 of 10 ? because of the controls, it felt quitefelt great to come back again in the world of Mafia!     Not bad not bad. After cringe mafia 3, hangar finally managed to deliver good game, even if it's copy paste from genius Varva
    Sex scene was censored so it's -1, music also was worse than original so it's -1

    This is a really fun game that does a good job of taking you back to a style of game from the PS2 era which of course it is a remake of a popular PS2 game. Great graphics with an interesting story. Controls feel good and gunplay feels smooth. A few bugs at release but will probably be patched.

    I am being completely honest when I say that I thought Mafia: Definitive Edition was gonna be a huge disappointment just like TLOU Part II... I was wrong.

    People will state "the original voice actors were better" or "Why didn't they bring in the old English voice actors". The problem? The new actors absolutely put on a brilliant performance for their respective roles. The original Mafia    I am being completely honest when I say that I thought Mafia: Definitive Edition was gonna be a huge disappointment just like TLOU Part II... I was wrong.

    People will state "the original voice actors were better" or "Why didn't they bring in the old English voice actors". The problem? The new actors absolutely put on a brilliant performance for their respective roles. The original Mafia (the English dub) had no emotion, no passion from characters. All of whom for the most part sounded like robots. Hangar 13 did so well in regards to fixing that. Add in the breath taking cutscenes, a beautiful soundtrack, a wonderful world to explore... I could go on.

    The only problems I had with this game was the reuse of Mafia 3 animations i.e. Tommy plays and moves like Lincoln Clay so the gunfights are meh at times but I'd rather that than the original Mafia gun play. 2 cutscenes did not play audio which irritated me along with a bit of lighting issues in certain cutscenes.

    Overall, I am quite amazed that Hangar 13 gave us the pleasure of playing a new re-imagined classic. While not totally perfect, this game has a few minors flaws in which case had they not been present, Mafia Definitive Edition would be a solid 10/10.    … Expand

    This game had a compelling story great characters,but the gameplay was kinda clunky nothing game breaking though. If you enjoyed mafia 2 and never played the first game I feel like you would enjoy it

    An amazing remake of this classic, stunning graphics, good gameplay, the best in Mafia franchise until now, awesome soundtrack, they improved a lot of things, the history and characters are much better and likeable, the only bad things are the remotion of trains in city, and the phisics are ridiculous somethimes, but hangar 13 made and amazing jov recreating this wonderfull game

    Si te gusta tanto las tramas de mafia a lo Scorsese... este es tu videojuego. Qué disfrute, macho. Si se dejara explorar un mundo abierto tan rico como el de GTA, entraría en la cima del género.

    Ever since it's release, fans have been begging for more content in Mafia Definitive Edition. There are three things we most desperately want. Firstly, we'd love a DLC, with well-loved characters from the game. Extra gameplay and missions which tell the largely untold stories of how Sam and Paulie came to be in the family or the beginnings of the war between Morello and Salieri areEver since it's release, fans have been begging for more content in Mafia Definitive Edition. There are three things we most desperately want. Firstly, we'd love a DLC, with well-loved characters from the game. Extra gameplay and missions which tell the largely untold stories of how Sam and Paulie came to be in the family or the beginnings of the war between Morello and Salieri are desperately wanted. As fans, we want to see more from these characters that are even more incredibly interesting and complex thanks to the improved story and script. It would be even better to see the actors of the main characters in the DE return to continue their roles in a DLC, including the likes of Andrew Bongiorno (Tommy), Glenn Taranto (Don Salieri), Don DiPetta (Sam), Jeremy Luke (Paulie), Steven Oliver (Frank), Bella Popa (Sarah) etc.

    Secondly, Photo Mode is a desperate want. The game is beautiful and many of the missions allow for incredible views, unique locations and incredible effects for photos. This mode will allow players to take the photos they desperately want in a game that calls for it because of its beauty. It will also open up more space for community creation, as fans will be able to share what they produce, keeping the game interesting and exciting.

    Furthermore, the fans would love to see more content and additional gameplay for Free Ride. These could include being able to use more transportation (trains, trams) and open more spaces for exploration that were used in the game like the prison, different character's homes, the airport, the race track just to name a few. Additions of clothing stores and other interactable shops/business would be welcome too. In terms of gameplay, the fans would love to be able to battle against other gangs in this mode that can be initiated by the player or in new side missions. These could include taking over a gang hideout, stopping booze/merchandise runs, infiltrating businesses etc Characters like Vincenzo and Lucas Bertone could give players missions to do.

    This game has always been loved ever since the original came out in 2002. Now that the game has been released again, fully remade with beautiful graphics, a perfected story and script, amazingly talented cast of actors and updated gameplay, we want to see more added so that we can enjoy it even more.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Mafia “Definitive Edition” is a very good remaster of the first mafia that I’ve played on pc ages ago, the only negative thing that I’ve found is that the story mode is a bit too short!
    As an Italian, the dubbing is great..you can clearly hear the Sicilian accent and the swearing made me laugh a lot XD. Classic difficulty isn’t even that hard, except for a couple of mission, ie when you have to win that race or where you have to save your mate in the farm.

    Bons gráficos e a história é muito legal. Porém é um jogo muito curto e a jogabilidade com o personagem poderia ser melhor. Me diverti jogando mas esperava mais.

    This is a good remake, but with some technical flaws. But I hope they take this base, improve the engine a bit and then build up a new game in the same era from there, this has potential!

    it was my first time experience on the 1st mafia and story-wise i loved it and the performences were great, the sound editing on the cars and cutscenes,etc are great,i love the lost heaven atmosphere and cars in the 30's,music is awesome, graphics are really good(though i had some screen tearing on my tv)now for the negetive sides on this game,gunplay is too lousy and you just can't playit was my first time experience on the 1st mafia and story-wise i loved it and the performences were great, the sound editing on the cars and cutscenes,etc are great,i love the lost heaven atmosphere and cars in the 30's,music is awesome, graphics are really good(though i had some screen tearing on my tv)now for the negetive sides on this game,gunplay is too lousy and you just can't play without turning on the aim assist;some cutscenes also don't have proper lip sync, enemy Ai is not that smart and most of the time they don't know what they're doing,and i also experinced some bugs and glitches

    Mafia eins und zwei habe ich gespielt den ersten Teil habe ich bis jetzt leider immer verpasst deswegen kam das Remake für mich eigentlich perfekt und ganz ehrlich ich war tatsächlich absolut nicht enttäuscht, das Spiel kann mit guter Grafik Überzeugung, hat ne schöne gute story die Charaktere sind alle liebenswert und gut geschrieben und das Gameplay macht auch extrem viel Spaß.     Il combattimento corpo a corpo è macchinoso e ripetitivo rimpiangerete i combattimenti alla mafia II.
    Difficoltà a caricare le texture di gioco e calo di frame rate quando si gira la visuale in guida velocemente.
    Ottima trama nel complesso ma avrei gradito un po' più di accortezza nel comparto tecnico.
    Da giocare.

    Great game! Loading times get a bit annoying but otherwise great story. the game is very linear, you play a scene exactly like the game wants you to then there will be a usually 2-3 minute long cutscene. I liked that but don’t recommend for people who aren’t into that sort of experience.

    Remake of old school badass game. And its really good and amazing remake. Immersion in mafia world is simply amazing. From taxi driver to gangster of renown. Music and graphics are amazing. Gameplay is litle bit simpler but still good. Overall 8/10.

    Mafia is a good game and if your looking for a game and your just focused on the story, this is perfect for you, however. Outside of the missions there is nothing to do. In fights, ammo is scarce and I find myself dying due to a lack of ammo and using my pistol more than anything else. The scavenger hunt of magazines are introduced poorly. However, the story is gripping with twists andMafia is a good game and if your looking for a game and your just focused on the story, this is perfect for you, however. Outside of the missions there is nothing to do. In fights, ammo is scarce and I find myself dying due to a lack of ammo and using my pistol more than anything else.     The picture is very juicy, a lot of small details, beautiful sky, reflections on cars, etc. The story has not changed much, only new dialogues have been added. Missions have been reworked a lot and feel better. However, shooting spoils everything. It is very inconvenient to aim, not very pleasant to shoot, the thompson is just some kind of joke.

So in November of 2020 I played the Definitive Edition on my ultra PC and I enjoyed it a lot because I could run it at 60 FPS all maxed out at 3440p. Now in February of 2023 I got it for free on PS Plus and I played it again on PS5. The only downside is that there is no performance modeI loved the original game when I played it almost 2 decades ago and I was so happy to replay the remake. There are so many sh**ty games that give the player a whole continent to explore with nothing to do, where the player is almost forced to do 400 useless/meaningless fetch quests just to make the game longer and worth the 70$ price tag. A 10 hour linear game is what we need to breath again some fresh air and to appreciate quality ofer quantity. In the last 3-4 years a massive REMAKES movement has risen and the best thing is that we get the chance to replay the best games ever created on new platforms with all the goodies. Mafia Definitive Edition is by no means a masterpiece or a game to be remembered for generations, but a good game which will stand out from the thousands of TIME WASTERS called video games released in the last decade. A good advice is not to buy a game that costs more than 1-2$/hour of pure Story Mode (e.g. 10 hour of story mode = maximum 20$). Why to pay 70$ for a game at release when you could have the same experience at half the price or less one year later. Don't worry, the devs will not be poorer, just their greedy bosses. A company is nothing without its employees. RESPECT YOUR TIME, YOURSELF AND YOUR MONEY.… Expand

    This is a really good and solid game but sadly the Mechanics of it take it is step down but the voice acting and atmosphere and the music everything just made it in a amazing mafia game. I like it so much that I complete it in one day

The separation between missions and free-roam was a bit off-putting, but it ultimately kept the story streamlined and prevented needless padding. I'm terrible at it in every other open-world game, but the oldie cars here are obviously much slower, which helped me plan my escape routes with ease. Plus, executing all the turns while the car slides around the street is really satisfying.

    The story is consistently engaging and the performances are all strong, aided by the updated graphics that look really good (most of the time). Characters' eyes occasionally look kinda scary, and the world looks a little too plain during the daytime, but most of the cutscenes are impressive. My main complaint with the narrative is that it definitely stagnates in the final third, with a finale that feels too rushed. I could've gone for more context and cause-and-effect in the final three missions.

    I never played the original so it was pretty fun to experience this. It's not as deep or content-heavy as today's games, but I thought they rightfully made up for it by pricing this at $40. And I think when it goes down to $30 or less, it'll become an absolute steal and a gem of its own.    … Expand

    It seems to me that the original game did not deserve this remake, the game is fun, but very linear for modern times, zero replayability, the missions do not bring anything new, and even remove some great things that the original had. If you haven't played the original, I would recommend it; but if you played and loved the original mafia, maybe you should expect the price to come down a bit.

Noire, ist das Action Gameplay, meint vor allem eben die Deckungsshooter Mechanik recht altbacken und hakelig. Die Action Anteile des Spiels gefallen nicht so wirklich und fallen gar hinter viele Spiele der PS3 Ära wie etwa GTA 5 oder Uncharted deutlich zurück. Sehr schade. Hätte man auch hier ein moderneres, flüssigeres Gameplay hinbekommen, wäre das Mafia Remake ein Paradetitel werden können. So lebt das Spiel vor allem von seinen Schauwerten, der tollen Charaktere und Dialoge und der natürlich auch heute noch spannenden Story.… Expand

    It's good, but you can sense the lack of budget. Driving anything is horrible. In the original game there were traffic lights, none here - you hit cars that turn left while you go straight and the cops think it's your fault. there are slight changed to the original plot - some better, some worse. It's good, but the magic isn't there.

I personally was not as invested in the story, nor did I really care about any of the characters because every chapter just felt like a dramatically thrown together plot without real accurate flavor of a mafioso. There could have been some depth to the rise of the main character, events that take place where the gamer sees his rank rising through the years, the day he was made, his wedding, a bond with his daughter who we never even see yet plays such a vital role in his life. I don't know if adding some side activities could have added some more depth to the story of the main character or not, but there was just so much missing that I wish was in the game.

    Maybe someday we will get a real amazing Mafia game where you actually go through the ranks of the mob and there is far more substance to the history most of us know and find fascinating about organized crime and the mafia in America. Maybe some actual rackets we can manage, a currency system, day to day operations that we can control and make choices upon to continue the story arch perhaps in two or three different ways that branch along toward alternate endings.

    7 out of 10 but only because I am fan of this franchise. It's probably really a 6 out of 10    … Expand

    From the day I installed it, the console started getting very slow and freezy and I couldn't figure out what was happening: I thought the PS4 was overheating, I thought the Hard Disk was too filled up, I thought it was a virus and so on. So I rebuilt the database, I deleted games in order to free some space and I even reinstalled the firmware but nothing happened. Two days ago I was checking out my USB pen drive where I put all my saved data and I noticed that Mafia appeared as "Uninstalled app" and it was the only folder to appear this way so I checked out the console as well and found out everything about mafia was corrupted. I don't know if there were problems during the download or what, the fact is that as soon as I deleted Mafia and everything about from the PS4, it started working again as it should work. I repeat, I don't know if the problem was caused by some error during the installation but I hope this is not a problem with the game itself because it is unacceptable.    … Expand

I like the world and the city, they captured the 30s aesthetic very well in my opinion. I also liked that they put many real life references of that time into the world. I also find dialogue and facial animation to be on the better side compared to other games. Presentation within missions and the unfolding of the story feels a bit off at times. Shooting sections can get a bit annoying because of the controls, but nothing major. Never played the original, so I can't comment on anything concerning the quality of the game as a remake. The ending actually managed to get to me a bit, I'll never get over the fact that I put Ralphi in jail.

    In my opinion, this game works just fine as a kind of stand alone title as I've never played the originals and sparked my interest in the series successfully. 7 out of 10, played on PS5.    … Expand

    Its a decent remake, gameplay is fine and the story is still very compelling.

    The open world design however is just dated at this point and there isn't really much to do other than about 10 hours of main story.

You start off as a simple errand boy as you do in the life of the costanostra and you move your way up in the family fast to taking the omerta & becoming a made guy pulling off liquor heist with the rest of the crew who are memorable characters Paulie and Sam. As you progress through the story you get your self in a little bit of trouble and now are looking for a way out for the safety of you and your family; so what do you do you turn informant. By doing this you are telling the entire story to the police and you are living that story.
    Game play: The game play is not your typical open world shooter, it is very linear though there is no side missions to do at all just collectibles. It works very much the same way and action adventure 3rd person shooter works. Using cover, blind firing & my favourite part of this is that it works like an old school game you have a health bar that if you lose all your health you die; this added to the fun for me. The shooting is a bit more difficult then previous games because Vito & Lincoln were military trained while Tommy is just a street guy.

    Graphics: The game does look a little bit dated but hey I get it its an 18 year old game but the updated graphics do look nice. There are some lighting issues I noticed which seems to a pattern for Hangar 13 and the games they release. There are some textures that will appear out of no where which seems to happen a lot too this also seems to be a pattern for Hangar 13.

    Verdict: Mafia Definitive Edition was a breath of fresh air for me and was exactly what I needed when it came to a new game it was linear and it was not and RPG, it kept me entertained on my toes a little bit & kept me guess.

    Gun combat is terrible to put it mildly. Enemies can hit you easily from far off but you cannot hit them.
    Weapons are peashooters and aiming is a good-luck feature. Driving is crap as well, but then again the original was not any better. AI is dumb. I frequently had audio problem bugs.    Game looks good. but the gameplay is stuck from the original version. Very boring and bareboned.

    I really had high hopes for this but was mildly disappointed. I was hoping for better controls, better and added content to bring it up to 2020 standard. A complete overhaul.
    But this is just a polished work of the original.
    also it has been many years since i played the original, but i felt some things missing and left out.

    I really hope there will be a good mafia game made someday for modern gameplay.

    Great story but frustrating gameplay. 2000s mechanics like healthbar are no longer fun. 25% of the time you'll spend just driving a car from point A to B

    Game looks nice, story is okay but gets boring, gameplay is fine but nothing special.
    Honestly though, the biggest issue for me are the bugs, this game is filled with bugs, its crazy!
    I would've never expect that from a game that looks like this and bears the title of "Mafia" and remake.

    Sometimes very beautiful, sometimes ugly. The environments and lights on vehicles could be very clean but faces and characters are too statics. The main problem of this game is the gameplay, because the character is too rigid and the gunfight are not very fun. The game doesn’t encourage to do secondary quests, because they are not proposed to the player during all the main quest.

    Haven't played the original but I really enjoyed the story but that's about the only good thing about this game. The graphics look partially decent but sometimes especially the lighting looks terrible. The controls kinda suck and overall it could've taken a lot more polish. The missions are very bland and repetitive which is due to the age of the original. Overall, an okay remake, great story.

The game has nice ideas but they are very badly implemented with many bugs. Since I loved the original game from 2002 I wanted to finish this remake badly. I tried hard to like the game and continued playing in order to finish theEven though the graphics are nice and the cut scenes are superb, the gameplay is a pain. However after dying near the end of one of the final missions, the game reloaded to the beginning of that mission instead of reloading the last checkpoint. I had zero motivation to repeat that boring mission once again. SonI decided to end my huge frustration with this game and immediately deleted it from my hard drive .. I respect the amazing work which the developers put into realizing this remake, but it was just not fun to play… so unfortunate and such a pity .… Expand

    an incredible graphics and story but unfortunately the level design and the gameplay is terrible . other than that the soundtrack is great . and it really captures the atmosphere of the 1930s really well . but the most important factor of any game is missing as i said when you don't have good gameplay the game is going suffer from it.

    Stunning graphics, epic story, but unfortunately the gameplay is exactly the same as in Mafia 3 - horrible. This game had such a potential, however Hangar 13 just did not even try to improve the gameplay for which Mafia 3 was criticised.

    I believe the devs should have gone less GTA/driving/open-world and more gameplay/story.     Story-wise, the game wasn't anything special. I haven't played the classic Mafia and don't know if they have followed the same story-line or not, but it felt like a filler for the game, just setting to make progress in gorgeous-looking city.

    The infamous driving level is back here, I don't know if it is an homage to the original game or just a sadistic trick, but to me, it felt like an unnecessary and odd challenge. specially on the classic difficulty.    … Expand
