    Incredible overhaul. Music, dialogue, graphics, the world of Lost Heaven. I loved every minute of this game and made an account here just to give a good review.

    Советую проходить на классике, запотейте на гонке. Цена стоит своих денег, особенно если берёте б/у диск или по акции.     As a huge fan of the original I must say that Mafia: Definitive Edition is a great remake that sometimes is even better than the original. The charm, the story and the atmosphere are all carefully recreated. The game is definitely worth buying for those who didn’t play the original or wants to refresh their experience.

    This is how a definitive Edition should be made. 10/10 for this. Beautiful graphics, gameplay, story and had a great team working on it passionate about their craft.

    This is truly a remaster. The Performance on PS4/Pro is really bad, the gameplay often lags, but almost great visuals. The open world city is really nice crafted and all scenes has a lot of details. Hopefully we got a PS5 patch for this remaster.

    I never played the original so I didn't go into the game with any expectations. Most of the game is comprised of driving around or listening to cutscenes. The game was at its height during some of the driving moments when you could take in the atmosphere of the city. The main character Tommy is almost laughably one dimensional. His only line is "yes boss". His transition from cabbie toI never played the original so I didn't go into the game with any expectations.     I can't believe that this game was released in 2020. Worst level design with downgrades from the 2002 Mafia game. Worst shooting mechanics and empty open world. No freedom, no lovable characters, no good voice acting, nothing is good about the game. If you're a human please don't buy this game

    The game looks gorgeous, BUT! the gameplay is totally subpar. specially the melee combat. I found the shooting sequences kind of fun< although they mostly consisted of basic cover and auto-aim.
    I believe the devs should have gone less GTA/driving/open-world and more gameplay/story.     Story-wise, the game wasn't anything special. I haven't played the classic Mafia and don't know if they have followed the same story-line or not, but it felt like a filler for the game, just setting to make progress in gorgeous-looking city.

    The infamous driving level is back here, I don't know if it is an homage to the original game or just a sadistic trick, but to me, it felt like an unnecessary and odd challenge. specially on the classic difficulty.    … Expand

    Pretty game thats barely interactive.     Ужасная графика, мыло мыльное. Геймплей скучный, тир со стрельбой из-за угла, никакой отдачи оружия. Автомобили словно утюги. Персонажа ужасные, катсцены невозможно смотреть. Ужасный ремейк.

    As a Czech dude who played the original numerous time and pretty much grew up on it, this remaster put a smile on my face. Some story changes are good (especially switching diamonds for drugs), some not so much, same with mission design - some missiosn are better than original, some are not.     Such an awful game. The original was a classic and this remake does nothing but tarnish that reputation. Sure the graphics are decent but all of what made the game special is gone. Avoid this at all costs if you're a fan of the first Mafia. If you thought 3 was good you may like this

    Game looks nice, story is okay but gets boring, gameplay is fine but nothing special.
    Honestly though, the biggest issue for me are the bugs, this game is filled with bugs, its crazy!
    I would've never expect that from a game that looks like this and bears the title of "Mafia" and remake.

    An epic game. Period. The game has characters that you can actually be interested in, a beautiful and lived-in open world, and decent gameplay. The only complaints I have are having more things to do in the free roam mode and I wished the game was a bit longer.

    Last update for this game was Fri, September 25, 2020.
    It is almost 1 year since the last update yet the game still has optimisation issues and room for improvement as well there are missing missions from the original, crashes and bugs are persistent, no tram rides etc.

    I can not find any info on further planned patches, and their official website has no dates on any of it's articles.

    Seems like shady tactic, to get old mafia fans like myself in to buy the game.

    Somewhere they did it well, but many missions were changed completely especially some of my favourites like "just for relaxation" and "lucky bastard" and I don't understand what was the reason to change Tom's character, he looks like a badass gangster now which is opposite to what he used to be in the original, just a good man who happened to be in the wrong place.

    felt great to come back again in the world of Mafia! As soon as the intro started with the fly through the city memories came back! the remake is great, graphics are great, the story is more than awesome! in 2002 when we were in school we were playing it already and said how cool it is, still today we are saying how cool it is! why not 10 of 10 ? because of the controls, it felt quitefelt great to come back again in the world of Mafia!     The many cons of this game include the atrocious driving and shooting design and utilisation. These controls are clunky, unresponsive and cumbersome to navigate resulting in many frustrating deaths. The game is also very terribly optimised (even running on a PS5) where there are some sections you spend more time watching the game load rather than playing it. Lifeless, one dimensional characters and terrible AI are very prominent throughout the game. The plot is a generic run-of-the-mill from any mafia/gangster movie that features the predicable "start from nothing, work for a family, become a key figure, there's a rat that betrays the family..." yada yada yada that's very non-engaging however it does include an interesting sublot of loyalty. Voice acting is also awful but not in a so bad it's good, just quite the opposite.

    The infamous Race sequence is god awful and horribly hamfisted and implemented. The appalling driving controls are too unresponsive and frigid to even be considered a challenge as it takes way too many attempts and time to even finish the race let alone in the winning position and quickly wears out and traps the player in a monotonous loop of weariness. Lastly, the Free Ride mode is honestly a joke with little to no incentive to engage with it.

    The one good feature I will dignify is the ability to customise the way you want to play Mafia. You can skip unnecessary drives (easily my favourite), Normal or Simulation (a mode that attempts to imitate real driving) and Police response/aggressiveness. Unfortunately, this game is still, at it's core, a bad boring experience of drive and shoot and drive again.    … Expand

    Half way through and so far so good but cars are more realistic to the period.

    Music sets the game up well by making more atmosphere and would benefit from more missions.

    it was my first time experience on the 1st mafia and story-wise i loved it and the performences were great, the sound editing on the cars and cutscenes,etc are great,i love the lost heaven atmosphere and cars in the 30's,music is awesome, graphics are really good(though i had some screen tearing on my tv)now for the negetive sides on this game,gunplay is too lousy and you just can't playit was my first time experience on the 1st mafia and story-wise i loved it and the performences were great, the sound editing on the cars and cutscenes,etc are great,i love the lost heaven atmosphere and cars in the 30's,music is awesome, graphics are really good(though i had some screen tearing on my tv)now for the negetive sides on this game,gunplay is too lousy and you just can't play without turning on the aim assist;some cutscenes also don't have proper lip sync, enemy Ai is not that smart and most of the time they don't know what they're doing,and i also experinced some bugs and glitches

    The plot line in this game is awesome and it’s better than all Martin Scorsese gangster movies combined, imho. From the point of technical aspects this game is average.

    I'm almost sorry for the 6. A classic was remastered here, but it didn't quite live up to the high expectations. The atmosphere is great and the synchronization is also very good. The cars are also a big plus. All are beautifully presented and animated.

    Terrible gunplay system and controlling the aim.
    Sometimes when you walk freely in the city the sounds will disappears.
    Terrible driving and physics.
    Short story You can't do anything after completing the game there is no much activity you can do
    Again bugs are literally annoying Only the graphics are good.

    Mafia definitive edition is an amazing game it is a 10-15 action adventure of Tommy Angelo going from a cabby to the Don's right hand man it has a beutiful world that you can explore but cant do much in because it's a linear story. Speaking of the story it is fantastic amazing writing amazing acting and a crazy ending.     Ottima la trama abbastanza fedele all'originale. I personaggi costumi e luoghi sono abbastanza fedeli tranne per Paulie che è stato reso più giovane e più "cicciottello".

    Sparatorie divertenti e ben congegnate con una sensazione dell'arma realistica, un po' meno realistica è l'intelligenza artificiale dei nemici molto aggressivi e poco intelligenti, a compensare c'è la loro ottima mira.
    Il combattimento corpo a corpo è macchinoso e ripetitivo rimpiangerete i combattimenti alla mafia II.
    Difficoltà a caricare le texture di gioco e calo di frame rate quando si gira la visuale in guida velocemente.
    Ottima trama nel complesso ma avrei gradito un po' più di accortezza nel comparto tecnico.
    Da giocare.

    The original Mafia is one of the first games I've ever played when my parents bought the first PC for our household. I remember playing this game and finishing it countless times and I never thought I would play a remastered version of it. It was a nostalgia trip to me. Loved every second of it!! Only thing they could have done better is if they made it more engaging in free play. Still, it ruins the whole experience with the cheap gameplay, terrible driving model, repetitive missions (drive - kill some guys - return, repeat), and impressive but dead city.
    The gameplay feels very cheap. The character movement is annoying (it's like you are playing a clay soldier instead of a human), shooting is very 2009 - hide behind something, shoot some guys, go forward, repeat until you reach some point. Driving is not the experience you want to have in this game. I know the cars are from the 30s, but you are always riding a tank on the ice whenever car you are using. Always.
    The open city is dead. There's no reason to do anything there. You can't use the tram, buildings are locked, people are somehow retarded, and walk the scripted ways. Sure, you have collectibles, but looking after magazines in the dead city is nothing you would like to do anyway, trust me.
    Bugs, bugs, bugs. The game is buggy. The textures are loading in front of you. The graphic is really "shaky". And the worst thing is that everything is scripted to the point that the police car can stop in one place during the mission and disappear while the other will arrive.
    I can't understand why this game got so many good reviews from the magazines and gaming portals.

On one hand, I was intrigued by the plot of this game from the start despite not really ever being into GTA style games, in short bursts yes but I’d be lying if I said I ever saw one of these games thru to the end before. But I’d also be lying if I said a full remake of the first Mafia still didn’t show its age in the gameplay department. The new visuals are very stunning & everything looks great in this game, characters, cars, the city, all great! But the shooting, melee combat, and ESPECIALLY the driving in this game feel like they haven’t updated it since it’s original release. Is it more realistic to the time period? Yes but that doesn’t mean it’s any more enjoyable. I don’t think I’ve actively despised driving in a video game more than this game, every time I had to drive during a mission, which is almost EVERY mission btw, I groaned out loud and had to redo objectives many times because of how horrible the driving mechanics are. It actively ruined the good time I was having almost every single chance it got, I almost gave up playing at a few points too. If I didn’t care about the main trio of Tommy, Sam & Paulie the way I did & wanted to see where their stories ended up, I wouldn’t have finished this game. Is it a little predictable? Yeah, but the ending left me feeling a little hurt, even if I expected all of what went down to.. go down. Good game, but I don’t think I’ll be returning to this franchise in the near future.… Expand

    I was excited when I started playing the game an saw the lovely new graphics, but by the time I got to my first gun battle and fist fight, I knew the remaster was a wasted opportunity.

    The shooting mechanics are just off to me, bad guys fall in a scripted animation and the shooting physics are very weak.

    + great graphics

    - Not much to do other than the single player story.
    - weak physics in the game
    - clipping and behind cover mechanics caused some deaths or game fail conditions
    - movement of the character is stiff during combat.
    - The frame rate is very bad, this should have easily reached 60fps without fail in 2020.

    After the absolute trash mafia 3 was, someone thought it’d be a good idea to give hangar 13 another chance to develop more absolute rubbish, and boy oh boy they didn’t disappoint. This is just a terrible remaster with horrible clunky controls, lighting is horrendous again. These guys are c grade devs at best.

    It's good, but you can sense the lack of budget. Driving anything is horrible. In the original game there were traffic lights, none here - you hit cars that turn left while you go straight and the cops think it's your fault. there are slight changed to the original plot - some better, some worse. It's good, but the magic isn't there.

    Remember how Morello's brother survives multiple assassination attempts out of sheer luck?
    That's why his missions are called "Lucky B***ard". Well, the remake has reduced the
    number of assassination attempts (I think the one with the train doesn't happen at all) AND
    the events have been changed. In the original, Paulie tries to shoot Morello in front of a diner
    and his gun jams, but in this version, Tommy PREVENTS Paulie from shooting Morello
    because he's holding a woman hostage. This completely messes with the concept of him
    being lucky.
    They've also changed the circumstances behind the plot twist with (a major mistake, in my
    opinion), they've removed Yellow Pete, they've changed how the Death of Art begins,
    removed even from freeride trains with trams for player activity with them etc...
    If you're like me, and you're kind of a purist when it comes to the story and general
    atmosphere in Mafia, these things will probably constantly bother you.    … Expand

    Chapter 15 (You lucky bastard) is botched entirely. Every single story change in that chapter is for the worse.

    I devoured the game in just a weekend. Let me start by saying that it is not by chance that this game was just nominated at the 2020 Steam Awards as a game with « an exceptional story » (among four other games).

    The story is extremely well-constructed. Characters, development of the story, the setting. All these elements are perfectly mastered. I am not elaborating on what the story contains, because I don’t want to spoil anything nor say what others have already summarized, but it is basically at the level of the best mafia movies. Fans of movies like The Godfather or Donnie Brasco to quote a couple will be delighted!

    This game doesn’t function like Mafia III. That has its advantages, but also its flaws. It works with separate chapters, 20 in total, each being a mission. This means that the game is not totally free-roam. The game lays on an open map, but you are not going to drive home/to your boss after every mission. You won’t either face any secondary missions or side-content to do between each main mission. Each time after a mission finishes, you get a cutscene followed by a loading, and then the next chapter starts. Working that way, the story builds magnificently up and remains very intense. Each chapter makes you play an important event of Tommy’s mob life, starting from the very beginning, and you never have time to get bored. This is maybe why some would say that this game is short. And indeed, it is. I would be lying if I said it takes more than 10-12 hours to finish. I would also be lying if I said I would not like the game to be longer. But at the same time, it is not necessarily a bad thing since I wasn’t bored for one minute.

    That being said, I have to admit that at least some side-content would have been warmly welcomed. At one condition though, and that is that I don’t want side-content the way Mafia III does it. For those who don’t know what I mean, I mean a map divided into multiple zones where each zone includes 5 to 10 camps to clean out. Always the same all over again for tenths of hours with few to zero story elements attached. That mistake hasn’t been repeated in Mafia’s remake, and I prefer it this way.

    If one day, however, a Mafia game with INTERESTING and varied side-content releases, it might be even better than the latter two if it manages to add value to the story without unnecessarily/annoyingly slowing it down. That would basically mean adopting a GTA IV style, which to me is one of the best games of all time. That’s it for the structure of the game.

    Technically speaking, this remake is impressive but not perfect. The game is a pleasure for the eyes. The city of 1930s Lost Heaven is well-designed, and light and reflections are staggering, especially considering the fact I played the game on a 2013 PS4. Same applies for the design of the cars. The game is equal to Mafia III for this. Cars, city, radio stations. Everything is made to give the player an as immersive experience as possible, thanks to both the atmosphere of the environment, and the high detail of its quality (visual, sound, animations, car handling, etc). Unfortunately, achieving masterpieces on old hardware came at the cost of a lot of graphical bugs, freezes and framerate drops. More than in Mafia III.

    For what comes to the gameplay, it is simple, but works well. It basically consists of shooting, driving, fighting and stealth gameplay. Animations and fluidity of movements of Tommy are good, despite being inferior to what RDR2 can do. There are not many different guns, but overall it is sufficient for what the game has to offer (gameplay’s depth thus matches the game’s length). Sometimes, I felt annoyed by having to gun down 50 men on my own, but apart from that I didn’t complain of what the game has to offer. The cutscenes are brilliant and for those who, like me, like such games with long cutscenes if they are well-orchestrated, it is « tant mieux » because it helps lighten the repetition I was mentioning.

    I’m concluding this review on a positive note because because it’s what the game deserves. Superb story, very good setting, great technique and simple yet effective gameplay are what make this game extremely worth it for its price tag (40€ launch, easily findable for 20-30€ a few weeks after).    … Expand

So I rebuilt the database, I deleted games in order to free some space and I even reinstalled the firmware but nothing happened. Two days ago I was checking out my USB pen drive where I put all my saved data and I noticed that Mafia appeared as "Uninstalled app" and it was the only folder to appear this way so I checked out the console as well and found out everything about mafia was corrupted. I don't know if there were problems during the download or what, the fact is that as soon as I deleted Mafia and everything about from the PS4, it started working again as it should work. I repeat, I don't know if the problem was caused by some error during the installation but I hope this is not a problem with the game itself because it is unacceptable.    … Expand

    Looks like a remaster more than a remake. It's only enjoyable to drive those old cars in such city, but everything else is sort of lame/outdated.

    I never played the original, and non-open world game is not my interest. I bought this game because of the story, and it payed well. However I would give it an 8 or even 9 if some of the gameplays are less frustrating (I know, git gud, huh? But seriously, the race was ok for me, however, what about the truck sequence? The plane engine sequence? WTF? I'm not the only one who get stuck onI never played the original, and non-open world game is not my interest. For now let me talk about, part 1, easily the best thing about the game, the writing, story and cutscenes.

    PART 1:
    The writing and acting for Mafia: Definitive Edition are easily the best main aspects of Story Mode, the game opened with a really well written moment, as Sam and Paulie (mob friends of Don Salieri) force Tommy (our main protagonist) to drive *them* back to Salieri's bar as Tommy is trying to shake off and lose Morello's men (Morello being Salieri's main competition) by using short-cuts he knows by being a taxi driver.
    I won't spoil any more of the game, although I really want to, because Story Mode has some amazing moments. Don't let me get side-tracked here though, I also need to tell you about this whole graphics in cut-scenes looking better than the actual game itself...

    PART 2 (the "open world"):
    Now, we must talk about the 'Free Ride' for this game, I swear I have collected all of the collectables in this game, yet it does not feel complete whatsoever! I play games like Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2, the open worlds for those games are absolutely stunning, beautiful, and just virtually wonderful to explore (and let's not forget to mention that Story Mode for both of those games are just better).
    'Free Ride' in Mafia: Definitive Edition is not an open world, it is extremely tedious, vehicles are an absolute pain to control, all I can give props to for the open world/free ride in this game is that it has some Easter Eggs that a lot of people really loved, overall the open world was just, no.

    THE FINAL PART:
    When I am in a car, I can literally see my hat poking through the roof, I know a lot of people would consider it a 'minor glitch', but in my book a minor glitch is the thing that ruins a substantial amount of the game. Whenever, I look back on Mafia; Definitive Edition, all I care to remember is Story Mode, nothing else, I had no fun driving vehicles, getting collectables, earning Free Roam trophies, I got exceptionally bored.

    Fantastic game. One of the best I have ever played. Amazing ambience allows you to feel the story. The plot remained, of course, unchanged and still arouses extraordinary emotions with the next actions of the antagonists. The difficulty of the levels is still high but more adapted to new players. In my opinion best remake in this year and one of the best in history of games
