I love the Mad Max movies and the wasteland atmosphere they create, so I naturally had high hopes for this game. It was disappointing how quickly the excitement wore off. The missions and activities get repetitive in no time, a real sense of progression is missing, and the combat is a poor copy of the Batman: Arkham system; it is simply unresponsive and clunky. I really wanted to love this game, but I just lost interest after around 15 hours. Wasted potential. Expand

This has to be one of the most under-rated games of all time, mad by the masters of huge open world games Avalanche studios Mad Max. Not following any of the movies, but taking a little from each film and making an original game is what the developers have done. There is fighting (like the batman games and driving like the grand theft auto games) The landscape is barren and beautiful including storms that are truly epic. The cars are accurate to the films and it is Maxes goal to reacquire his stolen interceptor. To do this he has to build an even more sinister car and defeat many gangs throughout the game. The missions can be repetitive, however it becomes addictive just to upgrade your car so you bear with it and keep playing. The story is average and could have been so much more, with the ending being very jarring. It is sad that the game was not more of a success as they would have made a sequel for sure. I don't have much to complain about this game, if anything I would say that there are many other vehicles, but they was never really a reason to use them as the one you are building is so much better. I would have loved to see more missions with other vehicles and perhaps missions where your dog goes with you.

I feel this game will be a cult hit in the future and hope the devs revisit it again. Just need to utilize more of the map by including fleshed out missions and they would have had a winner perhaps a AAA game.

    MILD SPOILER BELOW
The one negative thing about the game is that at a few key places you’re forced to act in a way that’s pretty inconsistent with 95% of the way you played up until then. That felt kind of terrible and to happen at the end when you’ve invested so much was kind of really sucky. The ability to choose and then a little bit of time invested in two endings would have felt quite a bit more fair.

Hra je za mě překvapením roku. Perfektní vizual, se zabavnou hratelností dělá z Mad Maxe jednu z nejlepších Open World PostApo her. Super jízdní model vozidel, a jejich destrukce s výbuchy jsou vážně impozantní. Avalanche studios se vážně předvedli, a ukazali že to umí, pokud mají dostatek peněz a času na hru.

Don't really understand the mixed reviews of this - this game was immensely fun and the attention to detail of George Miller's world is just outstanding! It's visceral, brutal and the driving mechanics are brilliant! Some of it can be rough around the edges and the story isn't all interesting but the amount of technical heart that has gone into this makes it worth a recommendation.

I ranked this game 10 because I think this title deserves more credit. It has a good open world atmosphere. You can see a devastating sand storm coming your way and then you have to run for your life and take shelter. It has a very nice graphics, fair story, nice combat system, and very fun car combat.

Mad Max is an open world third person shooter game based on the movie series. There's a lot of sand, and cars that want to explode. And there's a guy named Max in it.

The Map might even be too huge. It does get the feeling of a desolate world across, but with little variation of what you will actually do in the world it feels like too much of the same. The combat gets very repetitive, and even the bosses are almost exact copies of each other. The only thing that changes is the actually location and hideout.

So it's about shooting, fighting, racing and carnage. And there's a story! Not a particularly interesting one, but there is one. Some missions do immerse you, and others feel like ordinary fetch quests.

    All in all it's a good game. I give it a 7/10.

Car combat and not much else. Actually, there is a lot more, and all of it the worst of modern game tropes. If this game was just car combat it would be a 10/10. Hasn't anyone played Interstate '76? Am I so old that game developers are too young to be aware of classic games that influenced me?

Let's get the good stuff out of the way. The car combat is well done. I can't say it is spectacular mostly because it depends on a lot of upgrades that you have to spend hours grinding. So far I'm not interested in that grind and keep picking fights I can barely win. Still, with what I have the combat is fun. In addition to the stand front end collision, you can send enemy cars veering into obstacles. In a fun addition, a grapple hook lets you target parts of the car or the driver. An open world demolition derby would have been a great game and Warner Bros. should have focused on that.

Now that the good is over, let's get to the bad. This game is every open world base take down trope that has hindered almost every game this generation. Instead of climbing towers to fill in your map, you go up in balloons even though the Mad Max films didn't have balloons every square mile and the idea is stupid. You also get an annoying companion to serve as your tutorial help, narrator, mission giver. This game would be so much better if it embraced the notion of Mad Max as a loner. Then there are the cookie-cutter bases that have infected open world games. I get it, development is costly. Instead of hand making areas for players to visit, it's easier to make a library of assets that the designer can then cut and paste into the game world. All of it is boring and immersion killing. On top of all that, Mad Max has the Batman style fighting copied and pasted from Warner Bros.'s Arkham games. You never get a good Mad Max feeling of fighting. Oddly, the game has no stealth options when sneaking around enemy positions is something Mad Max does well in the films. Even the excellent car combat is inhibited by thedumb A.I. In one car fight, I kept going in for a few hits and driving out of their A.I.'s patrol zone.

Maybe this kind of generic open world game was less generic in 2015. I don't think so. I remember playing Far Cry 4 and feeling the same way about it as I do about Mad Max and Far Cry 4 was a much better game in general. The problem is that Warner Bros. took safe bets with Mad Max. Safe bets are what you make when you don't want to lose. When you want to win, you take risks.

Full Disclosure: Mad Max was a PS+ "free" game so I felt no obligation to "get my money's worth".

    Recomendado.

no to talk about some good (almost) things: the idea of forts, and helping them grow is really cool. BUT, they made it kind of repetitive, lazy work. while playing i coldnt stop thinking about how much a wanted to be a beta tester for this game. oh, almost forgot, the story is kinda cool, even tho they created the most hateful dumb pre-adolescent Max of all times. you'll hate him for every choice he makes, and you just have to go along hating him (yourself)

while playing i was thinking about giving it a 5 stars grade, or even lower, but giving the good parts as scenarios, and diversity of cars, and the beaty of it, etc, AND, the most important part: PSN just gave me the game for free, i'm ok ith 6

There are balloons to elevate in order to reveal portions of the map, camps to take down so as to reduce the enemy presence in an area, and tons of places to loot for scrap (the game's currency).

But here lies the problem, the scrap economy is broken. If you just want to complete the main quests and avoid the side content, you can't do that because story missions are locked behind requirements that need to be met, and you need scrap to proceed. So much scrap, indeed. The rate by which you gain scrap is much slower than you need in order to upgrade Max and his car, so you have to grind a lot if you want to progress (it helps if you take enemy camps down, you get free scrap every 20 minutes or so). If the story progress wasn't locked down this way, you could finish the main missions in a few hours, but whatever story there is, it's forgettable and meh. In terms of open world games standards, Mad Max's content is below average, and inflated with so much repetitive side content (it's not even side QUESTS, as you just have to shoot down snipers, clear minefields, or destroy scarecrows out in the desert).

At least the core gameplay is a bit of fun. The melee combat system is clearly inspired by the Batman Arkham games but lacks their fluidity and rhythm. The vehicular combat is another focus of the game, driving a car is nice but it's frustrating when you are confronting 2 or more enemy vehicles at the same time. Resources in the Wasteland are scarce, so you have to manage the water you drink, the fuel your car burns, and your ammo, but these will never create a serious problem.

The best part of the game is the atmosphere. The artists captured the feeling of the Wasteland and its crazed inhabitants, the post-apocalyptic world and the accompanying madness are shown in all their decadent glory. There is also a bizarrely funny AI partner in the form of Chumbucket, a deformed mechanic who repairs the car and issues some missions for Max.

All in all, Mad Max is a game that can only be played when you have nothing else or better to play. If you like the Mad Max movies you'll probably appreciate this game a bit more, but trust me you are better off watching the movies instead. Or play some other fantastic game, there are plenty of those on the market.

Its gameplay mainly revolves around melee combat (with a fighting system inspired by Rocksteady's Batman games) and car battles.

Unfortunately, the game is boring and extremely repetitive. The main story is very short (spanning over only a couple of hours) and not very interesting, and once you're done with it (and the side quests known as "Wasteland Missions"), there's not much left to do, except mindlessly looting the 200+ scavenging locations scattered around the map and clearing the various enemy camps to gain control of them.

This game loop is similar to what you can find in Just Cause, but here it's way worse. In spite of the repetitivity, JC3 was still fun to play, with the dozens of possibilities offered by the Grappling Hook, the vehicles, the weapons, etc. Mad Max, on the other hand, lacks that variety and that fun. The fighting system, while decent, quickly gets old as you're always fighting the same enemies throughout the whole game. Even the "Top Dogs" (sorts of mini-bosses) are all the same and not even threatening. Besides, the car battle system is boring and you'll be glad to get the Thunderpoon weapon (that allows you to easily destroy enemy vehicles) to avoid those combats entirely.

The atmosphere and imagery of the game are good and well done, but once again, things are very repetitive. Most of the world map looks the same, with a lot of sand, a couple of mountains and not much else. Of course, it's a good rendition of the Mad Max universe, but more variety would have been nice.

To sum things up, this Mad Max game is not a horrible game, but it's certainly not a good game either, and I would not recommend it : it's just an extremely repetitive open world game that becomes boring after just a few hours.
