Driving and car combat are big parts of the game, and (arguably) the most fun you'll have here. Cruising around the desert in your custom

war machine is a blast, as well as all the trouble you're likely to get into just by doing so. Enemy car patrols and convoys are fairly

frequent, and there are plenty of options to deal damage. This keeps the desire to keep upgrading the car a high priority.

Once the larger game world opens up (about an hour in), the real fun begins. Casually driving around and causing chaos, completing the

main missions, and messing around with custom car configurations are all dumb, loud fun. The game got really bogged down, however, when I

tried to take it too seriously and complete 100% of everything.

Trying to knock off every point-of-interest on the map screen reveals an ingrained repetitiveness to the tasks that leads to joy-numbing

boredom. Using the dog to sniff out land mines is fun one time, but not thirty times. The same goes for scavenging locations, road races,

and even the base camps. There just aren't that many different things to do here. Batman this is not.

Speaking of Batman, Mad Max (like Shadow of Mordor) basically rips the dark knight's free-flow combat system right off. Way to cut those

corners, WB. The game tries to custom-tailor the fighting to Max by making him more of a brawler. This amounts to having only one actual

move you can do over and over (surprise - it's a punch in the face!) and making Max slow and clunky. There's no way to interrupt your own

move to counter an incoming punch from the guy behind you (a problem Rocksteady fixed years ago), so timing is really key. To spice things

up with some originality, Max also gets a move to avoid incoming attacks. Can you guess what it is? Yeah, it's a freakin' somersault. To

be fair, rolling out of the way of incoming hit-and-runs while Chumbucket fixes your car never gets old.

Ah, Chumbucket. Apparently the one thing missing from the Mad Max universe was a comedy sidekick who's not only completely unfunny, but

also who's annoyance factor is of a Jar Jar Binks-level intensity. The developers also decided to have him follow you EVERYWHERE YOU GO

and comment on EVERY SINGLE THING THAT HAPPENS IN THE GAME. There's no way to drive off without him or turn off his audio. He sounds like

a mentally-handicapped anxiety-case was force-fed caffeine pills and possibly some hallucinogens. Colorful characters are great in small

    doses, but not like this.

The car physics feel perfect for smashing or just driving around. It's when racing is involved that things get sticky. If the car even

grazes the edge of the race track or a rock, it's likely to go airborne and land facing the wrong direction. Thanks, havoc engine. Even

in the open desert, the handling is a problem with tight cornering. It's way too easy to have the whole car spin out of control. You

can't combine the crazy physics of GTA with the picky precision of Forza and expect people to not free-flow their fist through the TV

screen. Number 2 seems to be the magic number with video games. Here's hoping they can work out the kinks and deliver a 9/10 sequel in a few years. The Good: - Car combat is really satisfying. - Building custom cars rarely gets old. - Breaking someone's jaw feels great. - Feels like Mad Max. The Bad: - Chumbucket. - Max is too slow needs more moves. - Need to be able to counter an attack at any time. - No way to save custom car configurations. - Archangels don't line up with when upgrades are available. - Almost impossible to build a car that's not ugly (but it IS Mad Max, so...) - Mini bosses need to not all be THE EXACT SAME OPPONENT COPIED AND PASTED FIVE TIMES WITH DIFFERENT-COLORED ARMOR. - Max needs to be able to fix up his own damn car. The road warrior doesn't know how to use a wrench? - Not being able to drive The Interceptor until the end. Let us have some fun before you take it away. - No way to easily locate the car bodies. - No clear reward for adding to the stockpiles. - Endless desert. How about more than one biome? It's Australia, not Vault 101. - Drifting? Things I wish I knew sooner: - The rolling actually helps a lot. - You don't the yellow winch to kill a war crier. You can actually just shoot them. - Don't bother trying to eliminate all threats in an area unless you need to unlock something. - The quicker you get to Gastown, the quicker you can upgrade Chumbucket's wrench. - The big dust storms blow crates across the desert full of HUGE amounts of scrap. - There are game-breaking bugs that can pop up if you leave a camp in the middle. - Upgrade the harpoon. Ripping a wheel off a car is a one-shot kill.

For someone that has not seen the latest movie the introduction felt a bit unexplainable and unconvincing, but the setup and the massive world makes up for pretty much of that. I like that you have to earn yourself favors to get different fractions to trust you, but still the missions get repetitive pretty fast. And you tend to loose interest.

A game made on a movie licence? This cant be good right? Those are usually made under strict time pressure and rarely turn out as playable. But Mad Max is an exception to this for once.

Driving mechanics are also very good with minor flaws.
Apparently your car can run out of gas. But it is rather pointless, you never do. And you rarely refill.

    The bad side:
Repetitive stuff to do outside the main quest. this is common for almost every game just like Ubisoft releases. But at least it is not brain numbing boring. There is loot to pick up around the map, and they did a good job designing each location. There are caves and shacks all around, and they are not repeat location like camps in Assassins Creed. I was pretty surprised that the puniest piece of rubble can hide an entrance to a large underlevel cave. The great desert hides some really cool location when you get there.
Story is very thin to be honest. You lose your car and go on a hellbent revenge trip to get it back, except you won´t get it back and you have to rebuild the car. Somewhere in there you really lose the perception if there really is a story. What are we chasing again? Oh yeah a Big block V8 engine.

Despite some minor twists and irks this game runs surprisingly well. Some framerate drops on Ps4 Pro. but other than that there is little bugs to be seen.

Mad Max is a good game to kill some time.

It was very fun during the first few hours, I knew I was in for a ride when I rented this game. There are many issues with the game, which i'll briefly explain: boring combat, repetitive missions, inconsistent and as previously mentioned, extremely long. Mad Max is not a bad game, by any means, but it's not a good game either. After a while too the checklists of things to do in areas can become pretty repetitive and with some temperamental camera issues and frame rate issues can make you want to turn off. Looks good, combat is fun, crashing cars is fun too.
But the story is weak and only makes an appearance now and then between repetative 'capture the outpost' quests.
Wbros have just done the usual wash and rinse gameplay from MESoM, which is exactly the same as most ubisoft FC & ac games. That's the problem for me, once you play for an hour or 2 you just get the feeling you've done it

The story is not that great and could've been done better.

A lot of reviewers/players complaint about the fact that the side missions etc are fastly repetetive and honestly I have to agree with that.
They couldve added some more stuff to do and removed a couple of things.
For instance the scavenging over the whole world is a nice addon , but having to get every single one of them for a trophy or achievement feels a bit overkill.

Coming to the trophy/achievement subject a lot of them are earned doing the repetetive side missions and exploration missions.
Since I'm a trophy hunter myself this is highly frustrating , don't get me wrong I like a challenge but doing the same thing over and over (basically grinding) for such a useless trophy isn't really worth it.
So if youre a trophy/achievement hunter with a lot of time on his or her hands go for it , otherwise i'd reccomend going for another game.

I enjoyed the game on a fair level so its a 6,5/10 for me.

The combat is boring as hell - literally two buttons on foot and four in car - so get prepared to mash square to hit and triangle to parry over and over and over again. The car combat isn't great either, what with really bad AI and terrible hit detection meaning you might ram a car only for it to drive away unscathed because the game didn't register the hit. Water and Gas as a necessary survival mechanic is relegated moot in the first hour of the game. Ten hours in and there still seems to be plenty of water bottles to be found out in this post-nuclear wasteland.

Graphically, the game suffers from poor frame rates, especially during car combat and convoy missions, and an inexplicably wobbly camera. Compared to Mad Max Fury Road, the art direction of Mad Max The Game looks like a pile of turds.

This game can be summarized by a quote from Immortan Joe: "AH, MEDIOCRE!" It's like Far Cry 4, only less colorful, with less charm, and with a less interesting antagonist - and like Far Cry 4, it's mostly padding and light on actual main story content. So unless you're absolutely burning to play an inferior checklist-style open world game and can overlook shoddy graphics and repetitive (and bland) gameplay, don't bother with this game. Even IF you're interested, wait until this holiday season when it will undoubtedly be half price or less.

Edit: I just finished Act 2 and I'm already sick of the repetition of this game. By way of comparison, I got bored with Far Cry 4 about two-thirds of the way through because it became overloaded with mundane side-quests and other superfluous garbage that was mind-numbingly repetitive. At least by then I could safely skip most of it, having most of the important upgrades necessary to complete the story missions. Mad Max is far, far worse than Far Cry 4 in this regard.

Collect thousands of scrap, find hundreds of collectibles, take down dozens of enemy markers and strongholds, blah blah blah. People can down vote me as much as they want, it doesn't change the fact that this game exhibits the absolute worst of the "open world" genre: Complete fluff content. "But just do the story missions," you may say. I would if that were an option. But without reducing threat in the area, you can't progress. Likewise, as you do the story missions, enemies scale based on EXPECTED progress so your barely-above-stock car would be taking on level 2 or higher enemy cars and killed in one t-bone ram. Nope, you're required to grind this fluff content endlessly just to continue with the barebones story content and to ensure you're not easy prey.

The last few times I've played, I found myself wanting to play damn near anything else rather than Mad Max. The only reason I'm bothering from time to time is because I paid for the game. I'm half tempted to try to sell it while it's still new and has decent value because, as far as games go, this is more of a set of boring, repetitive chores.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone rating this game an 8 or above is HIGHLY suspect. It's a bad Ubisoft open world clone, period. You'll be sick of the gathering and chorework before you clear up Jeet's Territory, guaranteed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was a bit of a mixed bag that came out on the positive side in the end. It did some things really well. The atmosphere was fantastic, really captured the feel of the motorized wasteland you find in Mad Max and it was impressively large to boot so you could buzz around at some fun speeds. The hand-to-hand combat was loads of fun as well and you felt probably more competent than Max was supposed to be. First time you suplex some poor dumb bastard is cackle inducing satisfaction. The third leg of the stool of enjoyment were some little touches I found charming like the warcriers (when you left them alive) and the admirable variety they managed to put into the scavenging locations and camps.

Despite being an overall enjoyable experience, the game did have some glaring issues to my eye. Starting at the top, the story never made much sense to me. I understood what was happening through it but it was the motivation that never quite rang my bell. I'm punching my way through dozens of goons and smashing my way through lots of vehicles so I can acquire a bigger engine that I need for what? After the Jaw I could have just driven off to these Plains of Silence. Felt a little silly. The upgrade systems need some SERIOUS overhauling. I maxed out Max within the first third of the game and I bought upgrades for the Magnum Opus that were superior to ones I had to unlock through later quests rendering those pointless beyond the experience. The loot itself was really poorly done as well. What I hoped to have was finding new guns (or upgrades at least) and items and parts for my car but all you find is scrap which you use like a money system to upgrade said items. The scrap wasn't bad I guess but it certainly wasn't exciting. No "what am I going to find in THIS chest" sort of excitement. There were also a slew of smaller disappointments like the same graphic used on all the top dogs or the lack of need for food or water, but I'm gonna jump to my biggest complaint. The car combat in the later parts of this game was torturous to me. At first it was satisfying and fun and visceral in it's effect, but by the end of the game with my car as upgraded as it could be everything I encountered had so much armor that I didn't feel like I was doing any damage. I wanted to feel in the Magnum Opus like I felt as Max but instead I was Robin rather than Batman. It's not that I don't enjoy a good challenge, I love me some Dark Souls, but when you find yourself trying to deal with multiple opponents that feel superior to you with every random encounter it begins to suck the fun out of it. I ended up just trying to run from every fight and even that was frustrating. Who knows though, I might just suck at it Either way it left me woefully disappointed.

Now the flaw the, fatal, fatal flaw...the fighting sucks (really bad). I like the batman series and this fighting is very similar with one huge difference you basically press two buttons the whole time. One punches one parries...its fun pummeling dudes but, oh so repetitive. With batman, while it took timing, you had options with different attacks...with this you again just use two buttons. The worst is in pressing those buttons and timing things perfectly they will put you into animation that you can't parry (an incoming attack)...again...stupid. To make fights more difficult they just keep upping the number of dudes you take on at once, which takes things to a ridiculous difficulty when fighting 12-15 guys. I remember in batman happily pissing off 15 dudes because I knew I could beat them all flawlessly...not in this game, it's just frustratingly annoying. Bottom line: the driving keeps me playing but the fighting is deplorable and repetitive. I'm not sure I would recommend this to a friend unless they are just huge fans of the series...be warned.

He is on a mission to reclaim both his car and glory from villain Scrotus in the post-apocalyptic wasteland, with the help of his trusty friend and mechanic, Chumbucket. Don't expect much on the storyline front. It's simply not all that enthralling. We've all seen it before. Even the characters aren't very memorable or unique. This adventure is all about gameplay. It's all about checking the boxes, upgrading your weapons, car and equipment, that sort of thing. This approach actually works really well here. That's the sticking
point. You never run out of things to do, whether it's conquering a new boss, clearing out some underground mines, defeating a convoy or doing errands for leaders in various territories. Some of it can get repetitive, but the constant feeling of improvement and accomplishment make it worthwhile. Upgrading various components at each stronghold proves to be very helpful. By doing so, you will gain access to free water, free fuel and improved weapons and accessories. As far as weapons go, Max has only a few toys in his arsenal. These include the shotgun, harpoon, thunderpoon, sniper rifle and a couple others. It is the wasteland after all. It is also noteworthy that ammo is very hard to come by.

The combat system is reminiscent of the Arkham series. It doesn't copy it though, it has its own unique style. The exceptional fighting animations make it satisfying to kick your foe's tail. It is always a pleasure to run into some baddies while driving across the desert, because fighting is so fun. It never feels like a chore or drag. I like how you can finish someone off with a shiv too, Tomb Raider style. When Max gains enough momentum, he can enter Fury Mode. That's when combat gets even more awesome. You essentially tun into a beast who can do wrestling moves on enemies, deal double damage and string together more combos. It's pretty amazing. I did come across some control issues where I would hit the correct counter button but Max wouldn't counter. These moments were few and far between though. The real fun in the game is simply scavenging. Looting every camp, nook and cranny is immensely satisfying, primarily because you know upgrades will soon follow. It never got old defeating enemies in each camp, looting everything in the area then darting off to the next location. It's all about checking those boxes and it's a ton of fun. One other gameplay element to note is racing. You can compete in races and challenge other players' best times. It's a cool diversion, but it doesn't stand out as anything great. Visually, the game is beautiful. It's the best-looking desert in any game to date, that's for sure. The character models, vehicles and locations all shine with color and detail. In the audio department, I wish there was more music. It's almost nonexistent. You'll mainly hear the grumbling of your car's exhaust, which can grow annoying after so many hours.

Mad Max is not without its issues. As I previously stated, the story isn't going to pull you in and the characters aren't anything special. One thing that does contribute to the story are things you collect called history relics. These are remnants left behind from the world you once knew and loved. The surrealism behind how different the world was and is now is what gets Max (and the player) emotional. It's quite jarring and adds a lot to the experience as a whole. The combat system is great, but at times it feels like you've done it somewhere before (because you have). The wasteland is divisive because many gamers see emptiness, while others see that as simply the style of the game. I noticed a few bugs, most notably, vehicles randomly disappearing and Max's car is sometimes without sound. These are minor technical issues but they need to be cleaned up. Mad Max seems to be a divisive game overall among gamers. Personally, I had a great time with it. That's saying something, especially considering the fact that I like plot-driven games. The main story along with occasional side quests will take around 35 hours to complete, which is a hefty amount of gameplay, offering a big bang for your buck. Ignore the negative noise and give Mad Max a shot. It may falter in some areas and become repetitive over time, but it's fun and has high replay value. (7/10)

the controls are another pain in the ass. i guess you can change some keys there, but i didnt even try, cus i like to play in whatever settings the game gives me, but it was another fight i had to endure.
no to talk about some good (almost) things: the idea of forts, and helping them grow is really cool. BUT, they made it kind of repetitive, lazy work. while playing i coldnt stop thinking about how much a wanted to be a beta tester for this game. (even tho i'm pretty sure there was no beta test whatsoever in here, or the game wold be a lot cooler.
at least the graphics are beautiful, and the scenarios, oh god, people who create game ambients, you are without a doubt the best of the game industry nowadays. it's beautiful, and creative, and realistic, and diverse. man, i can't praise it enough, it really is perfect.
i finished the game frustrated, hoping to free my hard drive from that ****ty game, but actually i left it there for a little longer, just so i can go around the maps for a while, without any pressure. (thank god for the fast travel buttom, so i dont even need to ice skate in the sand that much
oh, almost forgot, the story is kinda cool, even tho they created the most hateful dumb pre-adolescent Max of all times. you'll hate him for every choice he makes, and you just have to go along hating him (yourself)

while playing i was thinking about giving it a 5 stars grade, or even lower, but giving the good parts as scenarios, and diversity of cars, and the beaty of it, etc, AND, the most important part: PSN just gave me the game for free, i'm ok ith 6

However I can't help but miss the original idea of this game. I've followed this game since its rumor. I love Mad Max, they're my favorite movies and I love games inspired by them. Some of the rumors seemed to have been false or were cut from production.

The game would benefit from a better mix of guns and combat. If you didn't want to have a third person shooter they could have at least put in the mechanics of a third person shooter but made bullets extremely scarce. Meaning you and your enemies would run out of bullets very quickly thus hand to hand combat would ensue. You could strategize your bullets to take out the first few enemies or the harder enemies. If you encountered enemies with guns while you were out of ammo you could take cover and draw their fire by poking out then straight up bum rush them when they're empty. Yes this game has guns but they're mechanics are from Assassin's Creed. And yes the combat is something I've never liked from Assassin Creed and Batman games, where you could just parry endlessly and win. Batman had better combat though. This needed combat like Sleeping Dogs, which had the parry but you couldn't use it to always win. Sleeping Dog's combat was very intricate and offered challenge.

This game doesn't have much challenge, dying puts you right back to where you were and even refills your health regardless of where it was. I wish games took a note from Dark Souls and old school video game logic... dying should be a bad thing in games. Story and characters are very interesting, although Max is kind of a douche. Chum basically saves this guy and gives him a car, Max complains it's not good enough demanding it should be a V8. Chum also drives to where ever Max is when he's in need and goes with him on his dangerous missions... sure he kind of develops a sicekick thing but Max is just a douche to him the entire time.

As for the world, it really needed more interaction. Being able to loot items and sell them for scrap would be better. Instead of having scrap that's not only highlighted but it also has a big sign over them for mindless looting. When the game said it had survival aspects I was thinking it would have you hunt coyotes or some animal for food, make a camp like in Red Dead Redemption for when you couldn't get back to your hideout, scavenging for medical supplies, using items/scrap to upgrade your hideout to defend against scavengers. You can upgrade your bases but there's no defense mechanics. It would be nice to have a gang war where you have to defend your forts. As for survival it's just about collecting water and finding food. They did include gas which was of massive importance in the Mad Max series, so kudos for that. Oh and FYI don't bother doing any fun jumps, it will just damage your car.

I love the Mad Max series. I love Borderlands and Fallout 3 which had a Mad Max feel to them. Sadly... I think they're better Mad Max games. But I'm not saying don't buy it, the game is fun. Just don't expect too much. Besides, the game isn't really that long. If you aim to collect everything and do all the optional stuff then it pans out but it's no where near as long as Witcher 3.

I'm not sure why, but at some point I found the game repetitive and quiet playing as a result.

It's a true open world and you can say you have stuff to do spend time exploring it, the person combat was pretty good and different to what most games offer, and the combat in the car was kind of fun too... So the conclusion is, I can't explain what is wrong with it, but it just didn't

Combat feels like from Guy Richies movie, u hear bones cracking and punches landing, with some awesome slow motion effects and gory details. Also car chases, those are fast, thrilling, with amazing effects and great use of harpoon, you can strip enemy cars from wheels, bodyparts or drivers themselves. But the problem is, thats all there is, I spend maybe 10 hours in game and then I just gave up, everything just feels the same, the first base you are raiding feels as difficult and rewarding as the one UR raiding 8 hours later, same with the car chases, or convoy challenges, it just feels the same like the first one. The only challenge that the game gave me was finding of scrap parts and insignias in enemy bases, but thats just annoying, you are running around bases over and over trying to find collectibles, feels like a 90s game. And the story doesnt deliver at all and there is nothing to care for. So when I figured out, after 10 hours of gameplay that Im just doing the same things all over again and again, and Im just aproximately 50% done with the game, I just gave up, it didnt felt that the game has anything more to offer other than what I done 150 times over already. To make it short, good looking, fun to play the first 30 hours and after that you realize that you're doing the same things over and over. There are good customizations too and honestly, the game worth the try. But to give you a good example, i've finished 55% of the global progression in about 65 hours, too damn long when you want to do everything on the map...

I don't know what reviewers were expecting, Its fun and is what Mad max should be. Yes it get's repetitive but it sort of fits the story in a weird way.

If you are a petrol head like myself, this is definitely worth grabbing. Although it is worth mentioning however that the game can get quite repetitive, especially during later stages. There was a real opportunity here for fun and creative side missions, but unfortunately this is not the case.

Just like the movie Mad Max:Fury Road that came out earlier this year, Mad Max is not going to win any awards for narrative or innovation, but man was it a fun ride.

Your car and your character Max are more upgradable than customizable. Max can get a leather jacket, wrist guards and gloves, but you can't customize the way these look. You do get to choose the basic shape of your car, and then you can add some decals and eventually you can choose what color to paint the car. Other upgrades to the car just make it go a little faster, handle a little better, or improve it's armor rating, but I would not call that customization.
Controlling Max in a fight is like the Batman Arkham series but not nearly as fast and fun. However, once you upgrade your ammo belt and do a project that allows you to get full ammo whenever you return to your base, the game starts to get a bit better because you can blast the more annoying enemies (the ones who dodge all of your attacks) with your shotgun, which is pretty awesome.
Car combat is strange. You use a harpoon a lot and try not to get rammed by other cars because your car can't take many hits. If you are out of shotgun shells and makeshift missiles (thunderpoons) it's often best to run away and avoid car combat. You would think that defeating enemy cars and then driving them back to your base would earn you a ton of scrap for upgrading your car, but it doesn't pay off. You can collect parts to build projects that allow your allies to collect defeated cars and gather scrap, but this also does not add to your scrap supply as fast as you'd think it would.

I can tell that it's going to take many months to finish this game, because I don't like playing it for more than an hour or two at a time - it's just too boring. I play this game while waiting for more Batman DLC and when there's nothing interesting to read about in the news.

Let's get the good stuff out of the way. The car combat is well done. I can't say it is spectacular mostly because it depends on a lot of upgrades that you have to spend hours grinding. So far I'm not interested in that grind and keep picking fights I can barely win. Still, with what I have the combat is fun. In addition to the stand front end collision, you can send enemy cars veering into obstacles. In a fun addition, a grapple hook lets you target parts of the car or the driver. An open world demolition derby would have been a great game and Warner Bros. should have focused on that.

Now that the good is over, let's get to the bad. This game is every open world base take down trope that has hindered almost every game this generation. Instead of climbing towers to fill in your map, you go up in balloons even though the Mad Max films didn't have balloons every square mile and the idea is stupid. You also get an annoying companion to serve as your tutorial help, narrator, mission giver. This game would be so much better if it embraced the notion of Mad Max as a loner. Then there are the cookie-cutter bases that have infected open world games. I get it, development is costly. Instead of hand making areas for players to visit, it's easier to make a library of assets that the designer can then cut and paste into the game world. All of it is boring and immersion killing. On top of all that, Mad Max has the Batman style fighting copied and pasted from Warner Bros.'s Arkham games. You never get a good Mad Max feeling of fighting. Oddly, the game has no stealth options when sneaking around enemy positions is something Mad Max does well in the films. Even the excellent car combat is inhibited by thedumb A.I. In one car fight, I kept going in for a few hits and driving out of their A.I.'s patrol zone.

Maybe this kind of generic open world game was less generic in 2015. I don't think so. I remember playing Far Cry 4 and feeling the same way about it as I do about Mad Max and Far Cry 4 was a much better game in general. The problem is that Warner Bros. took safe bets with Mad Max. Safe bets are what you make when you don't want to lose. When you want to win, you take risks.

Full Disclosure: Mad Max was a PS+ "free" game so I felt no obligation to "get my money's worth".

I dont really get into collecting things in open-world games but Mad Max had me obsessed with finding every piece of scrap on the checklist. I didnt really pay much attention to the story though, I shelved it in favor of everything else the game threw at me. Expand

Mad Max places players in the role of a lone warrior who must embark on a journey to reclaim his stolen interceptor from a deadly gang of marauders. Good.

There are fun missions, and the game has excellent driving mechanics and combat. The world looks beautiful, and the dynamic weather is cool. But, the missions are mostly repetitive and bland. Plus the narrative was completely forgettable.

"Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search of our better selves.”

    The Good:
Beautiful environment, chaotic car combat, great world building

    The Bad:
Repetitive fetch quests, shallow hand-to-hand combat, inconsistent difficulty

    Verdict:
Good, not great. Mad Max is fun albeit pure fluff. Worth playing if you're a fan.

It's one of those games like MGS5,Ubisoft games where there's a huge map but you are basically repeating chores over and over without any effort into creating a story driven narrative. Once you get used to the novelty of the visuals, it's extremely dull

Story is repetitive as hell with clunky controls, but great characters and a nice open world to explore. Sound mixing is rough!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Mad Max starts off with a solid and fun beginning, but as the game goes on, it starts to get repetitive. The upgrades you need to do on your car so you can proceed on the main story are mainly based on eliminating a gang influence on the region and getting the upgrades from the enemies cars. Although the game can be boring in multiple moments, its still a great game for fans of the movies, and also, the graphics are lovely, also the map is nicely done and offers a wide open desert to explore.

    Recomendado.

Mad Max is an open world third person shooter game based on the movie series. There's a lot of sand, and cars that want to explode. And there's a guy named Max in it.

The game is surprisingly fun. Tearing apart other vehicles and driving over NPC's is satisfying, and even the hand to hand combat is fun for a while. The map is HUGE! And that's where a big issue also lies. The Map

The Map might even be too huge. It does get the feeling of a desolate world across, but with little variation of what you will actually do in the world it feels like too much of the same. The combat gets very repetitive, and even the bosses are almost exact copies of each other. The only thing that changes is the actually location and hideout.

So it's about shooting, fighting, racing and carnage. And there's a story! Not a particularly interesting one, but there is one. Some missions do immerse you, and others feel like ordinary fetch quests.

    All in all it's a good game. I give it a 7/10.

This game surprised the heck out of me. It was like a wasteland RPG with awesome quests but a GTA style car you drove around F***ing people up in. Really well made, decent size world and solid progression. Didn't like being gated by how strong my car was and lost interest after a while, but perhaps I'll go back to it one day. The fact it was free on PS plus one month is a steal

Overall Mad Max does nothing new and fails to be noticeably exceptional in any of its mechanics.

Everything it has to offer has been done better by other games but that doesn't mean the game is bad - it's just a bit mediocre. It makes the most of the Mad Max setting and while the plot is far from noteworthy, a combination of derivative yet fun mechanics and a good open world and setting

Its not a bad game on any terms, but it gets so mindlessly repetitive that I had to stop playing for a while and get back at it weeks later. On its core, its the batman combat style with cool cars, but I feel like the game really doesn’t give you that much to do. Not good, but not bad either, for a movie inspired game, it could have gone waaaay worse

As Max your primary goal is to build and modify the Magnum Opus - your new set of wheels, after your famous interceptor (Black-on-Black) is taken away from you in the beginning. After getting over the initial hurdle at the beginning of the abysmal car handling, and Max being easily killed you start to settle into the open-world rhythm. You'll be scouring the wasteland for scrap to improve the Magnum Opus and Max's abilities. After about 3-4 hours you'll start to feel like the formidable force Max is in the films. Car customisation is a good driving force, and the hand-to-hand combat whilst not all that deep can be very entertaining. Unfortunately every facet of the game is serviceable without being stand-out. Car handling and combat can often be frustrating to control, even in the late game. The parry timing is just off in hand-to-hand combat to the point you just start to ignore the on-screen timing hints because they are plain wrong. The wasteland environment has some stand-out locations - old ships, oil rigs, canyons (and some cool surprise locations) etc - but eventually it just becomes dull driving through different types of sand. Mad Max will give you plenty to do in its 60+ hours game time if you want to get every collectable and piece of scrap, but ultimately most people will get so far in then just stick to the story missions to get it over with. Mad Max used its imagery well, and as a sandbox game, it's thematically pretty coherent. I actually liked this more than GTA V: driving around is more exiting, and Batman-style fist fighting is more fun than Gears of GTA -cover shootouts. [Oct 2015]

A functional open world game, Mad Max captures none of what makes its source material great. Missions are uninteresting, the world is dead and there are next to no damn car chases. [Issue#262, p.64]
