    This game was a day one buy for me. I have probably played it six times since I’ve owned it and currently playing it while at home because of the COVID-19 stuff going on! Each time I play it I am reminded of why I like it so much! The first time I played it I didn’t even know you could drive in first person. The first time I played it I didn’t even know you could drive in first person. That is how I play it now, it looks and feels very awesome driving this way in the game! However, sometimes i switch to 3rd person in confined spaces to better see what I’m doing.There is a real sense of accomplishment that you get while progressing in the world. Between the skill tree, the upgrades to your abilities as well as to your car, you feel like a badass while you’re leveling up!!!!! For a post apocalyptic game, the graphics for the environments look amazing, not to mention the great effects of the sky & sunsets, etc. it even looks killer at night!!! I love the look of shadows of the clouds rolling across the landscapes! The hand to hand combat (which borrows heavily from the Batman games) has a real sense of weight and crunch to it, especially if you play with headphones! I love Avalanche games as I have played all of the Just Cause games since Just Cause 2. I would’ve loved to have seen a sequel for this game, but sadly i know we will never get one!!! :( I want to thank the team at Avalanche for this game, you branched out from Just Cause & made a KILLER game which unfortunately went way under the radar of many gamers!!!!!!!!… Expand

    Truly the most underrated game ever.
    The combat is amazing, comparable to the Arkham games you can feel the intensity of the punches, bones cracking it's not just punching 3 times and they go flying. The car combat is really good, and even more so when you upgrade it a lot
    The evolution sistem is amazing you can really see and feel max and his car evolve as you play more and more. And the    Truly the most underrated game ever.

    And the best part,the exploration, from the beginning to the end I felt captivated to explore, go to bases, defeat bosses etc, mainly because of the evolution sistem, I wanted scrap to upgrade max and his car and that kept me going. The story is great not a master piece but it's fine. The only thing that pushes this game down is the bugs there are a ton of them, none of those who happened to me made me restart the game but I know that that happens.

    Best game I've played! Much fun in the wasteland! TPS is more fun than FPS. I like North of Fist that is like mad max. I bought madmax, god of war and cod. Finally, mad max is much much better than the other 2 games.

    One of the greatest atmospheric games I’ve ever played. It has this amazing texture and you can feel the heat and the madness. I don’t know about those who find the games Mechanics not good enough, for me it’s so smooth and satisfying.

    From start to finish, one of the best and most enjoyable games I've ever played. Everything in the game is designed brilliantly. The combat, the driving, the story, the world, the writing, the characters, the quests... it is a very fun open world game. And it looks amazing too! driving around with your badass Magnum Opus is so thrilling. Also, the explosions in this game look absolutelyFrom start to finish, one of the best and most enjoyable games I've ever played. Everything in the game is designed brilliantly. The combat, the driving, the story, the world, the writing, the characters, the quests... it is a very fun open world game. And it looks amazing too! driving around with your badass Magnum Opus is so thrilling. Also, the explosions in this game look absolutely amazing. The game encapsulates the world of Mad Max perfectly. The game has a lot of similar objectives to do, like a Ubisoft game, and it's incredibly fun to do them all, because you get important rewards to upgrade Max and your car and also the gameplay loop is really fun.

    And one of the most important things for me, and why I love this game is that it never gets boring the more you play it, it actually gets more fun when you upgrade all of your stuff. Not a lot of games can do this, a lot of games can get really boring after a while.     One of the best PS4 games to ever be made. Insane car combat and a world that will have you putting down your controller just to sit there in awe. Everyone should try this game.

    A true undiscovered gem,a diamond in the rough in the bargain bin. Great game play, open world concept. Mad Max is chalked full of great characters and locations that is is surprising that more games haven't been made in this universe. PS4 graphics are in beautiful 4K display from the dusty landscapes to the world ending storms. This games deserve your attention and you deserve the experience.

    I am surprised by the opinion of the "critics" of this game, she is good for a movie adaptation. There is action, story, nice graphics even crafting. I can recommend it, and if you play it, avoid the tornadoes :)

Obviously it's suffered next to Metal Gear, but can be got cheaper, and quite frankly is as good a time as you'll have in gaming. Yes, the tasks repeat themselves, but so do most tasks in most open world games, and the meatI want to weigh in on the relatively poor reviewer ratings. The controller layout is not the best, but you can change that if you want.     This game is everything i expected and more. What i do t understand is games like watch dogs gets a 8.0 but a well put together awesome game like this one gets a 7.3??? Im enjoying every minute of mad max and i love everything about it is a must have to any true gamer

    So glad I picked this up. It's not the perfect game. There are some glitches, getting around as Max on the ground could use some work, and it can be a bit repetative, but I gauge the value of a game by how it compels me to come back to it, and this one has me coming back consistently to get just a little bit farther, a little bit better, a little bit stronger.     A really great game letdown with an non existant story. I personally really enjoyed my time with this game, until the repetitiveness kicked in hard. The game features an open world litterred with stuff to destroy and camps to clear, side missions, collectibles, etc. Game play revolves driving around in an post apocalyptic with your own custom car and a combat that is like batman. Now the story brought this game down a lot, without spoiling anything it felt lazy and uninspired, which was a shame. The repetetive nature will also kick in at some point, luckily for me it didn't happen until probably the 20 hour mark. To, end it felt like Ubisoft decicded to make Rage 2, and it's really good. Pros: masterpiece of an open world, addicting gameplay. So-So= can get repetitive for some very quick, overly simple combat mechanics. The cons= non existant story… Expand

    If I had any complaint it would be that I expected the scavenging to be more detailed (like Fallout).. rather than finding generic piles of "scrap". Otherwise very enjoyable..     I was wondering when I pre-ordered and then seen some of the low scores from reviews if i had wasted my money. Thankfully the game is better than what I expected there are some niggles but i was finding I was spending hours trying to do the next upgrade or stronghold. If you want a tie in to the movie this isn't it but after playing for a while I didn't care I just enjoyed finding the nextI was wondering when I pre-ordered and then seen some of the low scores from reviews if i had wasted my money.     I don't understand why all the reviews are so mixed. This game is great. I was reluctant to get this game since I've never seen a mad max movie nor do I know anything about them, but I'm impressed. By itself, this game is fantastic with a ton of content.

The graphics are gorgeous, the lighting is fantastic, the hand to hand combat is brutally satisfying and fun, the car combat is addictive and challenging at times and the fact that you can literally go anywhere is AMAZING. I literally spent most of my time driving around the wasteland and taking in the sites. Also there are no borders or invisible walls in this game.Oh what a lovely game! The graphics are gorgeous, the lighting is fantastic, the hand to hand combat is brutally satisfying and fun, the car combat is addictive and challenging at times and the fact that you can literally go anywhere is AMAZING. I literally spent most of my time driving around the wasteland and taking in the sites. Also there are no borders or invisible walls in this game. The outter boundaries are called the big nothing and it's full of sandstorms and tornadoes that can kill you in seconds. It's so fun to mess around in the wasteland even though the stories is paper thin the customization of max and the magnum opus are vast and full of variety. Some of the side missions can become repetitive but all and all this is an amazing game that I highly recommend. Welcome to the wasteland… Expand

I wish there was more polish on the game and that's why I give it a 9 vs a 10. Interestingly, it released in the same window as MGSV and there are many similarities between the games. I am very happy to note that YOU CAN GO TO GAS TOWN! This was my big question coming into the game since the new movie only talks about Gas Town, but we don't see any real glimpses. If nothing else, try this game to play the car combat and experience Gas Town yourself!… Expand

    The vehicle physics are excellent, which is good because you do a lot of driving.
    Combat is very similar to Batman & Shadow of Mordor, which I like.

    Only downside for me was the assisted targeting for the harpoon, or lack thereof. 9 times out of 10 it would highlight a section of an enemy vehicle that I didn't want to target, and wouldn't allow me to target a wheel for example.

    But overall a very fun game. This is exactly how a Mad Max game should be made.    … Expand

    This game is awesome and if you loved Midlle ERth Mordor and Batman style of fighting then you'll instantly connect with this..
    --Car combat is kinda gay but it gets fun..similar to batmans bat mobile.
    --The story isn't as vanilla as reviewers claim(meta & ign).... I suspect the story will heat up soon as I'm only 1 session in...

    --a 10 score is supposed to mean "masterpiece" like Last of us of Fallout3 or Oblivion. And a 0 is supposed to be ET or any broken game..

    Such an underrrated game!! I spend dozens of hours playing it and I cannot get enough! I became obsessed with get every piece of scrap and upgrade, still I got a long road to go but I will definitely try for platinum

    Negative points: there are too much scavenging locations. Even though they varied each one, it does get stale but it's nowhere necessary to go search them all.     Not only the best movie license game I've ever played, but also the best game I've played this year. Beautiful, frantic and above all - fun. Definitely pick this up if you're a fan of driving games, brawlers, survival games or third-person shooters.

    This game is great. It has great control schemes, and great game play. If you are a true game, then i suggest you at least rent this game and give it a try. You will not be disappointing. It definitely surpassed my expectations.

It can become repetitive but that's not until many hours of gameplay. The storyline is meh but fun nevertheless.     This is my surprise game of the year, ive never paid much attention to the Mad Max franchise but im aware of the basics. I have literally put about 6 hours into this today. Its a BEAUTIFUL open world which so many side quests and missions to do. Cannot recommend this game enough especially if your a mad max film buff.

Dishonored (one of my favorites) got mixed reviews when it released, and now it's got a cult-like following and it's one of the most popular PS3-PS4 remakes!

    The point is..Mad Max is a great game. Don't let other people's bad reviews spoil what could be a great adventure! Just because this isn't a game that's as hard as Bloodborne or a story as rich as The Witcher 3's definitely doesn't mean it's a boring game, and certainly not a bad one either.     I am half way through the story and I do not think they really put much focuses on it. which is fine, as the fun I found within the game has not been hampered by that. There is some interesting characters like Chumbucket in this game as well. The world may feel a bit bland and boring, given that the game is set in a desert, but it is natural. There is some nice little touches here and there to make locations more memorable. I mean, the only way to make the game to feel more colourful is to add forests and oceans to the game which is impractical and unwanted since this is a Mad Max game, it is suppose to look like a desert. (If you think that this game looks bland, it means it has nailed that aspect) This game has one of the best representation of a desert in my opinion. The worlds feel unpredictable, given that there may be a random storm coming for you.

    I got to admit that there is some issues with it. For instance, the sense for "survival" is not really well-represented here. I do not really feel it when I am playing the game. While the Big Nothing does its job well, its feels a bit gimmicky.

    I do feel that the developer puts heart into developing the game. Gotta commend Avalanche for not creating a movie tie-in game and invest time in the universe and make an original game with their own vision.     The car and character customisation is really diverse. Car combat is cool and smooth. The melee combat is very similar to Batman/Shadow of Mordor and it works fine(though not very original or new).

    The missions are a bit similar all of them, but I don't mind.
    The story is not bad, but not winning any Pulitzer prizes.

    Its a really good casual fun and explosive game.

That said not every enemy encounter, death race, car battle, or enemy camp run is going to be the same experience even if you have repeat objectives to complete. For instance you cant approach every enemy camp the same way, each one has different defenses so you have to use some strategy and figure out how to gain an advantage on the enemy inhabitants or you will be quickly over run. And any one crapping on the car heavy steering controls is a winey baby, you get bad ass upgrades for your car over time so its no surprise to me that it looks and feels like a hollowed out rust bucket at first. I will mention that my very first death race I finished 1st on the second try no problem, I actually thought it was a little too easy. Once you begin to upgrade you opus(Mad Max's hotrod) car battles become extremely enjoyable and as long as your out on the road you'll have plenty of encounters with roaming bands of enemy vehicles, all of which have different ways of attacking you, as well as different strengths and weaknesses. The real addictive part in this game is collecting scrap, earning upgrades for your car as well as your character and all the awesome ways you can dispatch enemies. The game environment is nothing short of epic, the game action is tons of fun, and the characters you meet are unique and interesting; I never get tired of hearing what the people in the game have to say. Truth be told I'm not a fan of cinematic cut scenes or too much dialogue in a game but in this game it was a pleasure to sit back and watch and listen to the interactions you have with all the characters you run into through out the game. If you like exploring open worlds with endless task and side missions(think borderlands or gta) this game is for you. And I crap on anyones opinion that this game starts to grind, personally I never tire of the gruesome ways you can kill enemies in this game both in hand combat and while driving your vehicle. I mean someone could say that GTA5 starts to grind because it's massive and has repetitive objectives as well, so what ever. People gonna hate thats all I can say. I gave this game a 9/10 just to counter the piss poor reviews but in reality it feels like a solid 8-8.5/10.… Expand

    This game starts slow and that's where most people give up. Once you unlock more skills and upgrades, this game becomes very fun. The world is also very immersive and packed with fun side content that you can do until you clear the map. Graphics are technically decent, but it's the visual style and the lighting that takes the cake...probably the best post apocalyptic game visually so far. Get it !

    Points against the game:

    The game lacks any survival element which is going to be a let down for some but personally I won't miss it. The game is about pure, unadulterated action. I believe survival needs would hinder this experience, who wants to stop for water in the middle of blowing up cars with a shotgun?

    Another point that was given against Mad Max was that it features a fast travel system and this took away from the experience. I'll say this once, if you dont like it, don't use it. Its there as an option in case you want to use it for whatever reason.

    Positive points for the game:

    Where do I begin? The strongest point has to be car combat. This is where the game really shines. Easy to get to grips with but difficult to master as having to handle flamethrowers, ramming from the enemy vehicles and enemies on top of the car trying to bash your skull in is tricky, but achievable. And its moments like this that create some of the greatest non-scripted action sequences in gaming this year.

    On foot combat is also a blast. Its heavy, powerful and if the wasteland gets a WWE then Max is gonna be a champion. However, it isn't a walk in the park. If you venture into an enemy camp that's too difficult, you're gonna get slaughtered.

    The visuals of this game are gorgeous, the landscape is fun to explore, the characters are diverse and interesting, the customisation of your car is incredible and the whole game is just pantomime with the backdrop of a desolate wasteland - A whole lot of silly fun!

    I recommend this game 100% to anyone who enjoys cars, fighting, exploration and explosions.    … Expand

Combat flows brilliants, both on foot and in vehicle. Customisation options for the car and max are fun and extensive.
    On the downside, i feel the control of Max himself to be frustrating at time, the jump function so far feel pointless yet i keep trying to find a use for it when looking for hidden things, and maybe its just me but it being on the L2 button feel awkward. Also, shotgun being the default weapon when you get into the magnum opus has annoyed me royally! my head assumes the infinite use harpoon should be the default, and this misconception has cost me quite a bit of an already scarce amount of ammo!

    Something id like to see patched in later or made as DLC is a slightly harder version. health, water and petrol feel way too easy to come by and i never felt at risk in the game. A slightly more hardcore mode would be appreciated!

    All in all a very solid enjoyable title, that's gorgeous looking and allows you to blow of some steam mashing some skulls at your own pace.    … Expand

I find the set up of the world and missions to be very similar to Infamous Second Son which turns the repetitive open world gameplay into a very interesting game as you can do everything at your own pace, and all effort you put into unlocking the entire world pays off as your home base gets built up more and more. I really like Mad Max as a franchise to begin so I am captivated all the time by this game. I like the aspects of having to refuel or rehydrate (even though I rarely need to fill my car's gas) as it puts you in the moment at all times and immerses you into the game constantly. This also touches on the low ammo in the world and using your resources wisely (harpoon can be a great option that doesn't run out of ammo but you must be in a car to use it). I went into the game not expecting much, and discovered that there is plenty for me to enjoy with Mad Max the video game. I am about 1/3rd finished and can't wait to dig deeper.     Surprised by the mediocre critic reviews but listen to the users! Mad Max is solid so far - the graphics are smooth, the gameplay is engrossing... Love the content and the setting. Getting a lot more that we expected. Offline play is a huge plus, no server issues to deal with, and huge map to explore with no loading screens!

    Unfortunately you as the player cannot climb other vehicles, but your friend and other enemies do this. The graphics are also quite amazing... The sand storms are beautiful.

    I would have given this game a perfect score, but unfortunately there are some minor flaws. First, you, mad max, the main character... cannot climb up anything like you can in the GTA games. This can be quite annoying and is my only major irk I have with this game. You cannot climb up ledges of any sort, let alone other cars, buildings, rocks, etc. You also can't jump too high which you do by pressing the left trigger. When I see the enemies climbing around and up on my vehicles, i do become jealous.

    There is no multiplayer, but I can't complain too much. I'm glad this studio focused on making an incredible single player game, because it really is. I would loved to have given this a higher review, and almost did, but the lack of climbing and the minor bugs prevent me from giving it a perfect score.

    This is one INCREDIBLE game. If you like sand box games and the Mad Max world is what you wish you could live in, then pick this up. It's really amazing. I love driving endlessly, slamming and ramming into enemies hoping to pick up their scraps to upgrade my stuff. This game really gives you the survival feel because you scrape to find scrap parts, oil, and water and food to keep you alive.

    Avalanche Studios, you all have made an incredible game. Please keep up the great work and make more DLC, expansions, and sequels.... I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!    … Expand

    Very solid game! Fills the needed niche of next-gen car combat. Open environment driving is fantastic and the car combat is visceral. PLUS, you can then get out of your car, explore, gather, fight and more. I am really enjoying this game.

Neither of them are perfect or astonishing in the way The Witcher was but, Mad Max has a cool brutal world to show you while you stick to the pedal and everything explodes around you.

    The depth of field of the game is really something else. I play on a projector and it really looks great. Great Graphics. Maybe they go 15-20 fps when a lot, lot is going on. But is not that bad.

There are so many little things that just stand out. The locations are beautiful. I spent so much time just taking pictures while using the photo-mode. Oh yeah, there is a photo-mode where one can move the camera around. Just like in Batman Arkham Knight.

    Talking about Arkham Knight. The fighting system is very similar. But that's a good thing. It works and Max fights with chutzpah and by god does he have anger issues. :D He beats the living **** out of people. (Oh this is my first review, not sure if I'm allowed to swear... I do that a lot usually. I'll try and keep it to a minimum.) It is great fun to have to fight about 30 guys at once and to just see Max f*ck them up. The executions are awesome.

    There are races to participate in and unlike many other open world games these ones are fun and somehow more logical. Most of them aren't your typical "stay on the course"-races. I mean like they would have those after the apocalypse! No. The races task you with mostly just getting from A to B. How you get to be, what route you take: that is up to you. I loved finding out that sometimes I could just go straight through the desert and other times it would make sense to remain on the roads. The game never punished you for being yourself and doing what you thought made sense.

    The missions are fun and varied enough. I mean they fit into the whole game. Critics complained that the missions were all the same. First of all they are not. They are similar, of course. But what do people expect?? For Max to dress up like a clown and go to a party? That just wouldn't fit in.

    Also the customization is fun and awesome. I won't write any more. Don't want to spoil anything.

    I could go on and on for ages, but then would be telling you a little about the story and I don't want to spoil it for anybody. All I can say is this game is great. It is such fun to play and never once became tedious. It is just FUN!

    I recommend everybody playing it. Well anybody who like open world games.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I got really sucked into the Mad Max world and I love it's mix of clustered chaos and serene peace. I have a hard time putting down my controller and even though tense car battles and mission tend to wear on me... basically I need a rest from it... I just charge back in.

    I feel like the results of missions, however fetch quest they are, have interesting reveals of the post-apocalyptic world and I can't help but get into scavenger mode and search whole areas. Usually with a surprise sprinkled in with some thoughtful construction and architecture. Like every place had a story and a meaning/usefulness and is now lost to the world. I feel like there is some type of payoff every time.

    EX:(small spoiler if you care) Finding the Christmas tree with a family of mannequins pose around the tree in the middle of the desert was quite effective. I actually had to pause as the sun hit the visual perfectly and then a storm blast though and go, 'yeah... this world is f**ked.'as I raced to find shelter in a area with very little protection.

    Mad Max has many moments like this.

    The racing/battle car mechanics feel fresh and customization beneficial. You make your ride to your liking. The fighting mechanics are, as many have stated, similar to Batman and SoM... but for me that's fine because I love the fighting control of those games. You still can get overwhelmed and overpowered, I think more so in Mad Max than Batman and SoM. You are much more limited with weapons, making the feel of getting down and dirty (and well timed parrying) the best way to prevail. Also with Batman and with SoM there is more variety in escaping. Getting to higher ground and retreating. Not so much with Max.

    I read a lot of reviews. All I can say is to each their own. I love this game and I still have a ton to explore.

    The graphics are amazing, I got overwhelmed by the beauty of the deserted wasteland and the big canyons and you really get the feeling of being this lone wolf rider. The gameplay is amazing and runs smooth and the thunderstroms are terrifying. There is a big open world to explore which is what I really love about the    I am a big fan of the Mad Max universe, and this game sums it up!

    The costumization of Max and his car is great and I like the fact that you have to drive out in the open world to find loot to build your car ect.

Let’s be    I’ve been playing videogames for more than 25 years, since I was a kid and I must say this game surprised me in a few ways, it’s been a nice surprise.

    So this is a sandbox kind of game, the setting is obviously the mad max world. Bad things first, I must say I was surprised with a lot of reviews both from fans and professionals complaining about the game being repetitive. Let’s be honest, most sandboxes are quite repetitive in the side quest/additional stuff to do, only very few do something that’s completely different, this is for example the witcher 3 or Fallout 4, where even the sidequest feel very unique. So, I’m quite surprised a lot of people gave this game a hard time for being repetitive but didn’t complain about this for example in Metal Gear Solid V or Mirror’s Edge 2. Anyway, yes the game has quite a few repetitive aspects in the side quest/collective aspect, but in my humble opinion the gameplay is so funny that it didn’t feel like a pain (speak about this a bit more later), but yes the non “main story” content is a bit repetitive and maybe they could have added a bit more variety for certain stuff. Other than that I think this is the only real negative point of the game.

    Good stuff? Pretty much everything else. Graphically speaking I think the game is superb for a sandbox. I was particularly amazed by how well made the wasteland is done, it is beautiful to see (as beautiful as a wasteland can be) and massive with views that will let you wow. Also, I must say they made a great job at making the wasteland feel not repetitive, considering is a wasteland I think is hard, but you have more kind of rocky regions, sandy desert ones, mountain-ish, landfill etc. The wasteland feels varied and not boring at all. More good stuff, the gameplay is superb and for me is the main positive aspect of this game. Some people say it’s too simple, I say it’s simple but it is good because within its simplicity you have quite a few options, a responsive control etc. Being a bit more detailed, on foot the gameplay feels a bit like the Batman Arkham series maybe a bit simplified with not a lot of combos etc, but still a decent number of moves and the battle feeling is so wild that I don’t think it spoils the fun. The driving is also great with some mechanics I haven’t seen in any other games. Some people complain the car driving is awful, I think that’s unfair. At the beginning of the game you have a **** car and you’re driving over sand, gravel and dirt roads, it is true that at the beginning is kind of easy to lose control of the car, but I think it’s part of the gameplay. I don’t think driving a car with homemade **** tyres over sand etc. has to be easy, on the contrary. If you stick to roads the car drives a lot better compared to just land, I think it makes sense. Also the driving is a lot better when you start upgrading the tyres (with chains, spikes etc.), which again I think it makes sense. Anyway, the driving is good, I think you just need to be sensible and a bit patient as in getting used to it and improve the car; I mean improving the car is a big big part of the main story, so it makes sense to me that they made it feel like it actually matters. The battle mechanics on the car feel great and wild again, it is high adrenaline stuff with you being able to hit cars directly with massive bumpers with spikes, spikes on the side, shacking off guys that jump onto your car, sniping, using the shotgun, using explosive spears and, my favourite, using the hook for a variety of things from destroying other cars (as in taking off a door to be able to shoot enemy drivers), dragging down sniper towers or doors to hook enemies directly and drag their bodies through the mud. It is simple, but you have a decent amount of choice and it feels funny, simple and direct but very funny and satisfying, it is really really fun to play.

    Story wise, I think the game was all right it is not a superb story but it is good and it has good moments, it isn’t worse than, for example, the Road Fury movie story. Finally, in terms of duration, it isn’t super long but it feels right, around 20 h the main story + another 20 to 40 hours if you do secondary stuff and a huge map to explore.

    Summarising, if you’re looking for a sandbox with an action packed gameplay full of adrenaline and fun, I think you should give it a try, most likely you’re going to enjoy this game a lot. Otherwise, better spend your money elsewhere.    … Expand

    If you liked the 3rd and 4th mad max movies, it is a faithful recreation of the world, even more cruel I would say.    I felt compelled by the game play and the whole Devastated violent unforgiving world. The game itself is just too damn big, and for those who do not fall in love deeply with it might not like it as I did, just for the repetition such a gigantic open world might bring.

And as you may guess, it does get better. There is a tough race where many get stuck. If you manage to go past it then there will be a lot more fun waiting for you.

    For me, the biggest motivation to keep playing was unlocking car parts. Car customization is a huge part of the game, in my opinion the most fun part. Like I said, if you've seen Fury Road, you'll kow what to expect.

    It may not be for everybody. Do a bit of research. It does have the potential to be one of the best in your collection depending on your taste.    … Expand

Fallout 4, FarCry 4, Metal Gear Solid 5, Witcher 3, and numerous more titles of considerably quality stuff, most of which couldn't hold my attention for more than a week or 2. One of the very rare exceptions where a movie-based title wasn't aKickass open world fun. This is the title I've been choosing to throw on nightly, out of 5 full consoles of new and current games, incl. Fallout 4, FarCry 4, Metal Gear Solid 5, Witcher 3, and numerous more titles of considerably quality stuff, most of which couldn't hold my attention for more than a week or 2. The beginning of the story is a little weak and the game has to make use of some goofy time-killing mechanisms like forcing you to do side missions to unlock main missions but the final hours are exciting and emotional.

    There are some other iffy features: getting hit by a car doesn't seem to hurt you very much, there are random "storms" that occur and the only way to have them not kill you is to drive or fast travel to a base which just sort of interrupts gameplay and the game tempts you with encounters which give you "intel" on how to take down a base but they don't actually help at all or seem to matter one way or another. There's no shortage of things to do in the game though, and the environment, though bleak, seems authentic and enthralling.

    Racing and vehicle combat are excellent and very well incorporated. Though sometimes irritatingly difficult and buggy, this is strictly confined to the upper-level optional tasks and do not impede the story.

    The characters are rich and varied, enemies are often disturbing and loathsome; Max himself gives a believable performance as a tortured soul who still seems to care a little about his dying world.

    Probably the most unfairly panned game of 2015; based on that the price is way down so you should almost certainly give it a try.    … Expand

The story is average and could have been so much more, with the ending being very jarring. It is sad that the game was not more of a success as they would have made a sequel for sure. I don't have much to complain about this game, if anything I would say that there are many other vehicles, but they was never really a reason to use them as the one you are building is so much better. I would have loved to see more missions with other vehicles and perhaps missions where your dog goes with you.

    I feel this game will be a cult hit in the future and hope the devs revisit it again. Just need to utilize more of the map by including fleshed out missions and they would have had a winner perhaps a AAA game.    … Expand

    Dream game,Chumbucket and Magnum Opus are awesome.I want a sequel when they are finished with Rage 2.
    Altough all Top Dog bosses are the same with one swing animation and there are no interesting random wanderers.

    Great game specially if you love the Mad Max world. The story is ok, the gameplay is as great as in fighting as in driving. There is a massive open world to explore and a lot of content. The characters are amazing and evolve well throughout the story. The sound effects and the car roar is outstanding.

    A 69 from critics? SERIOUSLY? In this game you play as Max and you can literally design your own car called the Magnum Opus and you can do so many things. There are 300+ scavenging locations, so many car possibilities, so many enemy types and a very good story. Yes it has its faults but rating it a 69/100 is terrible. It is a very good game!

    What a fantastic and underrated game. Especially when you come off this utterly disappointing Cyberpunk 2077 release. Mad Max is a lovely open world game everyone who love dystopian landscapes should try!!!

    imo the most overlooked and under rated game on the ps4 . even as a fan of the original films i myself did not pick this game up until two years after it come out and boy what a great game . films made into games are norm a let down but not this one . i wish i could wipe it from my mind and play it for the first time all over again . its so cheap to pick up now in 2021 dont miss out

    Mad Max used its imagery well, and as a sandbox game, it's thematically pretty coherent. I actually liked this more than GTA V: driving around is more exiting, and Batman-style fist fighting is more fun than Gears of GTA -cover shootouts. [Oct 2015]
